Speaker 1 (00:00):
Happy Tuesday. You know what that means. At least for us,
it's Q and a day here the Four Things podcast.
This is where we answer your question. So it's called
the Fifth Thing. And I got chased back in with
me today, So we're gonna go over some questions that
you all have sent in and then it just a
heads up. The next two weeks will be episodes with Bobo.
It's like the Christmas Eve and the New Year's Eve

(00:20):
episodes because that's the Tuesday falls on Christmas Eve and
the following one New Year's Eve. So it's like you're
getting a little Bobo for the holidays, which is a
good time of year. He's a health and wellness expert,
someone we bring in. He even comes on the Bobby
Bones Show now he's called Nurse Bobo, and he's he's
just awesome. And so I pulled questions you all have
sent to me for him, Like I literally went into

(00:42):
the Gmail account for this podcast and I typed in
Bobo to search and everything that came up, and I
sorted through picked out questions. So maybe if you've sent one,
we will address it. If not, hopefully you can gain
some knowledge from it and it will be helpful as
you roll into the new year. But I just kind
of want to get past two. And Bob he's a
big proponent of this too, like stop looking at the

(01:03):
New Years like a first day, a fresh star. I
mean it is, but like let's just look at like
look at life that way time bettering yourself all the time.
But if you are in the whole, I'm doing a
resolution thing, I'm trying to kick start whatever, um, then
hopefully those will be some good episodes for you to
hear towards the end of the year. Um as we

(01:24):
wrap up. Okay, so let's get into today's questions. Okay,
this first one is from Denise. A few weeks ago,
you mentioned a drink made with tequila Topo Chico and
lime juice. Could you please give me the proportions? Sounds great? Okay, well, yeah,
I don't really know that I have proportions, per say,

(01:46):
but I it's helpful because I we use as the
drinking glasses in our house is Mason jars, which has
measuring lines on it. So I just have like the
sixteen ounce Mason jar, and so I know I it
about maybe two ounces of tequila. Cost Amigos is what
I prefer. Then I feel like eight ounces of Topo

(02:08):
Chico in there. Then I add some ice cubes. Then
I do two drops of liquid Stevia and half of
a line in each drink, and boom, that's the concoction.
And it's so refreshing and good. But like, let's say
you want to make this because it's the holiday season,
like you could actually when you squeeze half the line,
you can like toss that or make sure you have

(02:29):
a washed line and if you want to, like throw
a line in there for a pop of green, and
then you could get some pomegranate seeds and sprinkle those
in there for a pop of red, and then you
have a holiday tequila concoction. It's perfect. It's red and
green and it's had an epiphany. I didn't know there
was measuring deals on Mason jars. Yeah, it's super helpful.
I mean, you could really put it in any cup,

(02:50):
but just that's what I use helpful, And I think
I do about the two ounce mark. Maybe a little more. Yeah,
it depends on the day. But I mean it's definitely
a yummy drink that me and all my friends like. Cool.
All right, This next one's from Cassie, and you know
she's coming and clutch because she's following the four things
theme with four questions. Okay, she's a long time Bobby

(03:14):
Bones show listener and a four Things devotee. And she
also just real quickly wants to say she bought five
journals to give all of her girlfriends as gifts and
else to thank you for making that a great g
shout out. They're so cute. We finally got them in
the mail from the publishers that they weren't gonna you know,
you never know, just trusting and they look great. They
look are great. People are gonna love them. Okay, this

(03:35):
first question. I've tried your beach wave tutorial with Kelly
multiple times my hair Yeah tutorial with Kelly, and her
hair looks great for an hour and then the curls fade.
I use all the products in the video. I have healthy,
thick hair. Any thoughts on how I can make it last?
Are you using a ton of hair spray? Okay, No,

(03:56):
I don't use a ton of hairspray. I really think
sometimes it just comes down to a person's hair when
they hold stuff and then also product. So yes, I
made a hair tutorial in like two thousand and twelve
or something. Oh no, it was two thousand fourteen. I
remember when we did it two thousand fourteen, and it's
on YouTube and it's like beach Waves, Amy from the

(04:17):
Bobby Bones Show, Kelly Velvet Saige. Did we ever put
it at radiomy dot com? Okay, perfect, it's up there
and it still holds up even though we made it
over five years ago, and it's still how I do
my hair today. But I went ahead and send a
message to my hair person, who is Leah at Parlor
and Juke, and she sent me a little reply on

(04:38):
text to let me know that putting a primer on
your hair is super important. It's kind of like how
you prime your makeup, and it allows your makeup to
last longer. If you have a long day, you might
prime it, or you've got a good, big event to
go to, so you want to treat your hair the
same way. If you'll want to check out Leah on Instagram.
She's awesome. Her name is Leah Hoff, but it's spelled um.

(05:01):
She's Leah like L E A H and then h
O F F F so three f's and then she
also has another account Leah Hoff Hair, so the same
exact thing that you add hair and if you're really
into like it's sometimes it's just good to see if
you like a certain hairstyle. I like following her because
I will see what she's doing no other clients, and
then I'll save her Instagram posts and then when I

(05:23):
go get my hair done, I'm like, here what you
did here? I want this, re create this. So she's
a good follow if you're you know, wanting hair tips.
And she also is a huge vintage clothing person. She
loves going vintage shopping and she'll do like a vintage
hall and she'll share everything that she found. So if
you're really into that, like thrift store shopping, I guess

(05:44):
is what she does. She just thrift store halls and
a lot of times she'll find vintage outfits, but sometimes not.
Sometimes it's new she just or not not new, but
I guess more of the times not vintage. And she
does like a cute little ways to wear them on
her Instagram. So anyway, she's a would follow just giving
her a shout out because I love her, And she
sent me a reply to share with you all, and

(06:06):
she said product product, product, there are lots of products
on the market now that are targeted for setting styles
that you put on before you even dry it. So
before you blow dry, you put this stuff and it
will prime your hair to kind of hold things. Also,
she said another thing, if someone's hair has trouble holding
curl or style, she suggests using a smaller iron um

(06:26):
to make the wave tighter, which typically I would say,
Lee and I aren't a fan of like a tight curl,
but if your hair is not holding it, it's naturally
going to fall out, and then you'll have the achieved look,
whereas some of us we could do a looser and
it'll stay that way. Um. She says to use or
Abey Anti humidity spray as a primer. Uh wow, Dreamcoat

(06:50):
Supernatural spray, which was voted best of beauty and a
Lure magazine. The link she sent me has that, so
I thought it shouted out. And then also there's a
brand um your hair assistant, and it's blow dry primer,
so you can just google those things. I think the
company actually with this one, your Hair Assistant is like

(07:12):
Davins or something. I don't know how to say it,
but I've seen it in stores and it's D A
V I N E. S or divines. Maybe it's divines.
Get the picture whatever your hair assistant blow dry primer.
I actually might buy some of that, so okay, I
hope that helps. Next question from the same person from Cassie,
and this kind of goes along with the primer. I

(07:32):
tried Funny Bunny nail polish. It took three coats for
the polish to be seen, like, to be able to
see it. Do you use a primer or base coat.
I love the color, but it never looked great because
it was kind of see through. You have to do
three coats. Just is what it is. I love Funny Bunny,
but three coats, maybe even four, And that's just it
is what it is. There's no what I'm just letting

(07:54):
you know. I do three coats too, so boom alright.
Third question from Cassie. Do you still use the weighted
blanket you talked about months ago? Is it hot? What
benefit does it give you? Um? It can get a
little toasty and there it depends on what's going on
at your house. I do use it from time to time.
I'm not using it as much as I used to,
but I need to because I actually really like it. Uh.

(08:17):
And Stevenson will get under it sometimes and it's good
for him, so uh, you know, I think that there
is something to it, like something is calming to him.
I think when he has it, we moved it upstairs
to their little TV room, and I guess that's why
I don't really use it as much because it's not
in my room. But I need to probably try to

(08:39):
even sometimes, like literally just take twenty minutes and go
lay down and rest with it on top of me,
because I felt good with it. Some people don't like
it and it's not their thing, but for me, there
is something about It's almost like, Okay, I've got this
on me. I'm forced to lay here and feel calm
and relaxed. And my friend is a teacher, Andrew uh

(09:00):
shout out. She's one of my best friend since high school.
And she uses a weighted blanket. She she says that
certain kids that um have different things going on in class,
like she teaches young kids, like a weighted blanket can
be really helpful. So there is truth to what they say.

(09:21):
So whether you're a kid or a thirty eight year
old mom of two and wife and working person who
occasionally goes crazy. Yeah, I'm a fan. Cool all right.
The last one from Cassie, you said you stopped weighing
yourself recently. Do you do any kind of metric to
stay on track, like take, you know, check your body fat,
take pictures, measurements. I'm actively losing weight after having a baby,

(09:43):
and I want to get to a healthy weight, and
I try to focus on non scale victories. But I
love seeing that number go down. I mean, yeah, I
think we all have gotten fixated on the number and
seeing it go down, so then it's super depressing when
it stays the same or it goes up. And for me,
I don't weigh myself anymore. I guess there's times that

(10:04):
I have to because like if I'm at the doctor
or for whatever reason, but I don't hop on it
every day. Now. For some people that works and that's fine.
For me, it was not healthy. So what I use
to gauge things is how my genes feel. Like I
can tell how I what things have been like, or

(10:26):
if I'm retaining water. But we fluctuate so much as women,
and I think or even men too, but women, especially
during our times of the month, we can fluctuate so much.
And our body is crazy. It can retain massive amounts
of water to where some girls can go up five, six, seven,
eight pounds, And it literally is nothing that you have

(10:46):
done other than you're crazy. Hormones and stuff that's causing
you to retain water, or maybe you had a salty
meal and then at a day your body is gonna
let it out, drink a bunch of water, get rid
of it. And it's not that you have gained weight.
So then you hop on the scale and you see
your three pounds up. Like my dad, he was just
in the hospital last week, and what sent him there was, uh,

(11:09):
he had a distended stomach and some other issues going
on in a pneumonia and like a this foot was swollen.
Demon There was like a long list of things. But
he literally was up sixteen pounds in a few days.
And my dad's on a feeding tube, so he eats
the exact same thing in his tube every single day,
so there's no way he should gain sixteen pounds, right,
So he was retaining water like crazy somewhere in his body.

(11:33):
Over a period of three days, he was sixteen pounds heavier.
That's when I was like, oh my gosh, and you
couldn't really tell. I mean, you could tell he was
swollen in certain areas, but it was kind of like,
that's so crazy, like where is it hiding on you?
And so it just made me think of times that
I've gotten on the scale when I used to weigh
myself and been so frustrated if I was up five pounds,

(11:56):
but it could have just been me retaining water somewhere
and I would beat myself up over it. So I
just don't have time for that. So what I like
to do is not focus on a number. I put
on my clothes. I see how they feel, and yeah,
does it suck if they're a little bit tighter? Sure?
But do so do I know I need to like
maybe drink more water to flush and stuff out or

(12:16):
you know, I don't even want to mention restriction because
I'm trying to learn new ways and y'all all of
this is new to me too, this new way of thinking.
Trust me, I've been someone that has restricted and it
has not worked for me. So I just see maybe
where I need to alter things a little bit so
that my jeans do fit, and um, I just have

(12:37):
so much freedom. And with that said, I'm going to
work on I think a special podcast series with um
Lisa from at the Well Necessities, and I think we're
gonna put it up on four Things. It's not mapped
out quite yet, but how to call about it last
night with Elizabeth who is one of she works for
my company in New York and she's just a big

(12:58):
help to me and the oh and if you would
be interested in that, let me know. But it's basically
going to be like a little season. It will be
released on a different day, not a Tuesday or Thursday.
It'll be called something a little bit different, but it
will live inside the four Things podcast and Lisa would
kind of be my co host, and we're going to

(13:19):
tackle disordered eating and eating disorders and how to move
on from like that and find freedom because I don't
I want women to feel what I feel now, And
for so long I was not free, and I was
held captive to the number on the scale, and I

(13:40):
was held captive to what diet in my starting next
kind of like why I didn't even want to say, um,
you know, we were talking about the New year earlier
chase and how some people start resolutions and they look
at it as day at day one and sometimes even
looking at something as like okay, tomorrow's day one, Well,
then you abuse the day before day one, telling yourself

(14:01):
you can have X y Z, that you're never going
to have it again because tomorrow is the fresh start,
Like I just want to. I think for our brain's
sake and everything, it's just best if you just there
is no day one, and that way, you don't abuse
the day before. It's just every day blends together, and
it's fine if you had something you weren't supposed to have,
who cares, freaking move on. And I used to get

(14:24):
so stuck on that and I went to this cycle
of like binging, not eating, you know, all kinds of things.
So I didn't even know I was going to mention this.
But that's the thing that we're working on, and I
think it'll be really cool. So there. Who knows, it'll
be a season. Maybe there's gonna be like six episodes
in the season or something and they'll be released like

(14:45):
every Saturday, or I don't know how we're going to
do it, but we'll have other leases a registered dietitian
um and we'll have other experts on along with other
just real women that have stories. UM maybe even guys.
I don't know, but uh, if that's something y'all are
down with, please just let me know. And that way

(15:07):
we know. That way we know we're not gonna be
doing this for no reason. But I don't think we
will be if there's so many girls that feel because
there's so much shame associated There shouldn't be, but there
is with eating disorders or disordered eating, and it's hard
to talk about. But we want to create a safe
space and give people to tools to maybe heal and recover.

(15:29):
And one of the things I would say is don't
be obsessed with the number on a scale because our
bodies are crazy and it's gonna fluctuate. Um, even if
you are to pant sizes down, the scale might show
something else because you're retaining water and your foot like
my dad or something. I don't know. Okay, Okay, so

(16:01):
shout out, thank you Cassie for those four questions. We're
gonna move on the next ones from Allison. I'm currently
on round two of taking leg resolt. Is that so?
I think that's right? In hopes of getting pregnant, It's like, yeah, okay,
we've been trying for over a year and a half
and have experienced a miscarriage within that time period as well.
There's no explanation currently of why we're having trouble getting pregnant.

(16:24):
I was wondering if you could speak about some all
natural ways of getting pregnant. I know you've tried multiple
diets during your journey and although they weren't successful for you,
do you have any recommendations on diets lifestyle changes for
women going through unexplained infertility. I hate unexplained infertility. It's
the worst because that's the category I fell under, and
it's just such a bummer to not know do not

(16:49):
know why it's it's so much not that it's easy,
but it's you're kind of like, if a doctor can
explain to you, okay, this is why you can't get pregnant,
then you're like, okay, this is fine. But for me
and my husband, we did all the tests and we
worked with a fertility doctor and they couldn't tell us why.
So it was just so frustrating because we kept thinking, Okay,

(17:10):
well maybe we'll get pregnant this month, and every month
we didn't. And let me tell you, I tried it all,
like the natural stuff. I went vegan, I went gluten free,
I went dairy free. I let's see, I got colonoscopies. No, no,
no colon asks as a medical My dad has to
have one this week. I just looked his appointment. That's why. UM,

(17:32):
I had colonics, which is, you know, it's like a
might as well be you get cleaned out if they're
not putting a camera up there. But um. And then
when I was getting the why do we keep wanting
to call it? When I was getting the colonics, the
woman the first one I ever went to, and it
was in Raleigh, North Carolina. I drove there from Southern

(17:53):
Pines because we didn't have it in my cute little town.
Drove all the way to Raleigh, got it done, and
she was telling me how I should quit using dryer
sheets because um, they were causing women to you know,
like fertility issues. And so then I was like, oh.
And then she started telling me the airplanes flying in
the sky when they leave that white mark, they were

(18:15):
like dumping chemicals onto food to like cause fertility issues.
And it was like all the government and I was like,
oh my gosh, where am I? And I'm not saying
that every calonics person because I've actually gotten clonics since
then from other people and they were not crazy Town.
But I told her why I was there, and I
had heard that if I got clonics maybe it would
help me get pregnant. What what it does? What I

(18:38):
had heard was to clarify is that if you got
your body functioning at full capacity, like everything was in
alignment your gut health, which that's what the going vegan for,
the no dairy, the everything that was good for your gut,
cleaning out your gut with calonics and making sure all
the the microbe biome in there. I don't really I'm
not an expert obviously all but I was doing it all,

(19:00):
and I've I've gone to normal people that didn't tell
me airplanes and dryer sheets were uh causing fertility issues,
but um, she did. And I kind of believed her
because I was just like, whatever it takes to get pregnant,
you know. So I went home and I'm like, no
more dry sheets, no more, no more of that, and
I ate all organic and I was doing it all

(19:23):
and I never got pregnant, so I don't. And and
when she said the pill that she's on, if it's
like chlomad. What that does is it makes your eggs
more attractive, so when you take it, it's not that
And that's the extent that been and I went. We
didn't do like um IVF or anything like that. But
Clod made me totally like a nut job, like I

(19:45):
was crazy. I cried on the Bobby Bone Show. I
would leave and go to the bathroom. I think I
threatened to quit, like it was all kind of like
it was just like not a good time for me.
So I got off of chload um for the sake
of my sanity and people around me. And uh that's
you know, so you can get pregnant obviously if you
go other routes with your doctor. But we decided adoption

(20:08):
was for us. But my whole point in saying that
I tried all this and that in the holistic ways
is nobody knows because even if you google it. Uh
so what I was reading said don't eat meat, go vegan,
go gluten free, go whatever, And then you can read
another person that's saying no, no, no, If you want
to get pregnant, you need to eat a lot of
meat and make sure you're getting this much protein a
day and your body is doing this and don't ever

(20:28):
get a Calonics. And meanwhile, I'm over here getting a
you know, six pack of Colonics for a deal or something.
So I don't there is no I just think that
for some of us, if you're going to get pregnant,
it's going to happen. I think you can take care
of your body and try to be the healthiest version
of yourself. I think at the end of the day,

(20:50):
that would be my advice to you, Like, let's not
try not to drink or smoke and try to eat
right and exercise. You and your husband and the or
whoever you're trying to have a baby with, Like both
have like a mission to take care of your bodies
and be the best version of yourself as possible and

(21:12):
then see what happens. And also have sex when you're ovulating.
Like that's a big tip because some women still don't
realize that there's certain times of the month where they
can tell. So, like there's books that you can buy
that will explain to you a lot about what's happening
with your body. And I don't really think I understood
my body until I was trying to get pregnant, and
now this is lockward because Chase is here and Bobo

(21:33):
just talked in because we're gonna record some of their episodes.
But um, so let's just say when you're ovulating, you
may get cramps that let let you know, Like if
you're tracking it, I would use the I use the
Clue app just to track my cycle in general c
l U E and you can uh enter your info

(21:55):
in there, so it'll kind of tell you when you're
ovulating based on the math um. And then the more
you enter, the more the Clue app will get to
know you and it'll legit send you messages like you're
about to start your period and it's right, it's like
a warning like p MS is coming. But also it'll
give you intel on what you need if you're trying
to get pregnant. So when you're ovulating, so then you'll

(22:17):
if you feel a cramp, you're not like, oh, what's
wrong with my body? Why am I having that weird cramp?
You're like, oh, WHOA, I might be ovulating or like
one of my friends she knew right away because you
also have UM, how do I say this? With Chase
and Bobo, there's a certain discharge that comes out it's
like egg white form, and you know right away. And

(22:38):
one of my friends legit that was trying to get pregnant.
She saw that and she called her husband and he
was at work and she's like, you need to come
home right now. We have to do it. We have
to do it right now. And so he came home
and they did it, and they got pregnant, and she
knows it was that time, right, like, come home, there's
egg whites. So but what that does, it's our bodies

(23:00):
are really fascinating and that helps the whatever that is
that's coming out. When that's in your body at that time,
when you're ovulating, it helps the sperm stick. I think
I wish everyone could see her again. I'm not an expert, Boba,
do you know anything about this? Not a lot. You

(23:21):
can't say he can't, Yeah, he can't. Sitting voids saving
sex when people are ovulating. Awes. Okay, all right, well,
what else do we got? Is that it? We're gonna
wrap it up with one last one. This one's from Cambrie.
I'm currently working on some Christmas shopping and have already
gotten my future mother in law and sister in law

(23:42):
four things totes. I want to get my mom and
sister of four Things Gratitude journal because they already have
the totes. Do you know when you're gonna be launching
those and will it be before Christmas? Oh? Yes, they're
launched yep. And the seventeenth, Well that's today. We're recording
this beforehand, but when you're listening to it this, it's
the seventeenth, and this is your last day of shop
if you want to get it in time for Christmas,

(24:02):
like today. And I gotta tell you, the journals look
amazing and they are so cool and I'm obsessed with them,
and yeah, you could order it today and get it
in time, but like, that's it. Today's the last day
and we patted our order. Since we've sold out the
first round, we padded this round. So I guess I'm
saying right now, when you're listening to this, we have
some left. Two knows we could maybe sell out, but

(24:23):
I don't think so, because we tried to make sure
we had enough to get people through the Christmas and
they are awesome and they really yeah, so thank you
Cambrie for supporting with totes and journals. You're awesome. All right,
Well we will see you all Thursday, UM for the
very special Pimp and Joy episode. The Joy episode is

(24:45):
gonna be dedicated to my mom because it's her birthday,
or it would have been her birthday, and you think,
how old would my mom have been. I don't know,
I don't know, I don't know. I need to figure
that out by the time we can celebrate her would
be birthday, and UM, we thought, just what a better
time on her birthday to spread joy to others. We're
gonna be surprising some people with really cool things. My

(25:07):
sister is going to be coming on and we'll share
some cool audio of a speech that Bobby did like
five and a half years ago or something like that,
which was a really special moment of an event my
mom was at. And then we'll give you an update
on the impact that Pimp and Joy has had in
people's lives. And uh, maybe even talk to um a wife,
