Speaker 1 (00:04):
Happy Tuesday, everybody. This is the fifth Thing the Q
and a episode to the Four Things podcast, and I
just want to say thank you all for sending in
your questions to four Things with Amy Brown at gmail
dot com and your emails in general. I'm gonna just
start working them into here. I'll share four emails on
the Tuesday episodes, whether they're questions or emails that I
(00:25):
just want to address or I think would be beneficial
for other people to hear. You know, I used to
do the email shout out in the Thursday episodes, but
I got rid of that part. So just like I'm
working them into the Thursday episodes, if I see fit,
I will work them into the Tuesday episodes as well.
So always send me all your feedback, your thoughts, constructive criticism,
(00:47):
your questions, anything you got from me. I love hearing
from you guys and just connecting in general. Every Tuesday
we start off with a quote, and this is one
that I just like, don't know who needs to hear
it today, but it's a good one and something that
you may need either now or later. Success is not final,
Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue
(01:10):
that counts. Winston Churchill. My first email is from Tory. Hey, Amy,
I was listening to some of your most recent podcasts,
and you asked when we typically listen to four things,
and I listened to several yesterday when you put the
reminder in at the end of the Bobby Bones Show.
I listened to the Bobby Bones Show daily and have
for literally six years. You'll bring me so much positivity
(01:31):
and inspiration, humor and hope every day, and it makes
taking care of kids and things around the house so
much more fun when I'm laughing alongside friends. Anyway, I
listened to your Sister podcast and a couple of Fifth
Things episodes to catch up yesterday, and then the sex
trafficking started playing automatically. Honestly, I wasn't sure I was
in the head space for it. I know that it's
(01:53):
important to be aware, but with the heaviness of so
many things in the world right now, I just have
to pause it. Sometimes I have five little kids, and
I worry enough about their day to day that adding
fear is the last thing I need. Sometimes your podcast
and guests were perfect. I was so informed and have
so much compassion for the victims, and shockingly, their abusers
(02:14):
and users too. There is so much brokenness in this world,
and I'm grateful for the hope that we share in
Jesus and pray for those seeking to fill that void.
Thank you for approaching the hard subjects and helping your
listeners take the first steps into murky waters. So Tori,
thank you for this email and everyone else listening. This
is an example of just throwing an email into the
(02:36):
fifth thing where it's not necessarily a question, but it's
just something that I want to address, and I feel
as though I'm taking my first steps into murky waters
with y'all when it comes to some of the guests
I have on and some of the topics that I
bring up. So yes, I appreciate so much Cassie for
coming on and talking with us, and I just wanted
(02:56):
to let y'all know that Cassie is going to be
on this week's episode as well. On Thursday, I got
another question from a listener and I felt like it
needed to be addressed, and not just for me. They
were asking my opinion on it, and I thought, oh,
I kind of need to bring the professional back for
this one. So Cassie will be on for one of
the things on Thursday. So if you haven't listened to
(03:20):
the sex trafficking human trafficking talk that I did with
Cassie a couple of weeks ago, Cassie Hammett, I hope
that you check that out, but if not, you'll get
a little bit of insight into that this coming Thursday
when we answer a listener question, who's concerned for a
friend that's kind of doing something and she doesn't know
if she should say something to that friend it might
(03:40):
be harmful to the person and their behavior and what
they're doing. So there's so many topics I want to
address sometimes on the podcast are going into our guests
I want to have, but I too have a fear
of the heaviness Tori, just like you, there's enough going
on in the world and we're having to deal with
so much that why pile it on. But regardless of
(04:01):
whether or not we address it here on the podcast,
it's stuff that's happening in the world anyways. So sometimes
we have to just figure out when the best time
is for us to take in that information. And for you,
like you said, it just started playing automatically and you
weren't ready for it. But luckily you're still able to
receive it. And I appreciate those of you that have
responded to that episode and are wanting to educate yourselves
(04:25):
further and take the steps necessary, and some of you
in your own cities taking action seeing how you can
get involved. I just appreciate y'all so much again, and
to use toy words, taking steps into these unknown territories,
these murky waters with me, because then I don't feel alone.
My next question is from Denise. On a few occasions
you've mentioned an American girl doll book about growing up.
(04:47):
Would you please pass along the name and author of
the book. I have searched online and it appears it
might be a whole set. Are you familiar with them all? Yes, Denise.
There's version one of a book called The Care and
Keeping a View, which is for younger girls, and then
they have a version too, which is for older girls.
And then they also have another book about feelings and
(05:08):
it's called the Feelings Book The Care and Keeping of
Your Emotions, and that one is great now, especially because
I have a thirteen year old that's experiencing hormones and
all the feelings and emotions, and it helps her understand
how to deal with them in a positive way. There's
tips to stay in control handle fear, anxiety, jealousy, grief,
(05:29):
and how you can stay in the driver's seat of
your emotions, which I think is important for all of us.
So honestly, now I'm kind of thinking I need to
go up to stust SHARE's room and grab her Feelings
book because I need that reminder of how to deal
with that, and I don't. My mom never was proactive
and got me books that I could read, and she
wasn't really the type of mom that talked to me
(05:49):
about that kind of stuff at all. So not only
did I not have any books that she got from me,
but she wasn't having conversations with me. So Denise, I
think you're headed in the right direction even being cry
us about these books. And I don't know the age
of your kids or what that looks like for you,
But you don't have to buy the books in a set.
You can buy them separately. And I added them to
my Amazon page so that they're easy to find. Radio
(06:12):
meat dot Com. Click on my Amazon Favorite Things and
then you can go to books and Inspiration and I
have it all under the books there, and all three
of them. You can buy them as a set, but
I don't think that saves you any money. But you
can just buy them individually as well, depending on which
book fits the needs of your child as an adult.
I'm not joking. I might go just flip through the
feelings books, because again, I wasn't trained on how to
(06:35):
properly deal with all my feelings as a kid, and
so maybe I need to go go over that. At
least I can go over with Stashira. I don't have
to steal her book and read it on my own.
Next question is from Lisa. I loved your podcast on Thursday.
I can relate to some of the eating issues, especially
the food obsession. Anyway, I ordered two of your Be
the Change t shirts. I received them today. I'm in
(06:55):
Delaware and they're great quality, soft love the logo. Didn't
you say your son heard the shirt? Great job. It's
the first time I've ordered from the shop forward and
I wasn't sure what to expect. It won't be the
last time I order from you. Slash them, thanks and
take care. So Lisa, thank you and a few things. Yes,
my son the be the Chain shirts that Stevenson's handwriting
(07:17):
and he's so proud of them, which my kids are
gonna be going back to school soon. It's kind of crazy,
but I think they figured out a way to keep
it safe for everybody. But we were up there. They're
still in tutoring, like a social distance tutoring thing, and
he was up at the school and he saw someone
walk by in a B the Chain shirt and he
got so excited. He's like, that's my shirt. I did that.
(07:37):
And so for me as a mom, I love that
he's so proud of that, and he can spot the
shirts and know that those people care about racial injustice
and they want to make a difference, Like he knows
why we made them, and I think that that's super cool. Which,
speaking of Stevenson's shirts, every year we put out a
shirt for his birthday, which his birthday is coming up
(07:59):
on August tent He a couple of years ago was
would say to me, probably because I didn't know how
to handle my emotions well, he would say to me, Mom,
chill out, relax, calm down, and he would say all
three in a row. So for his birthday two years ago,
we released a shirt that said chill out, and then
his birthday last year we released a shirt that says Relax,
(08:20):
and so this year we're completing the set, third and
final shirt. I don't know what will end up doing
next year, but we're going to release Calm Down. And
they're just a simple gray tea with black letters. I
really like they each have a different design though, and
I really like the design we came up with for
this one. So that'll be available August tenth. We only
sell them on his birthday. That's it. They're not available
for they're not available after. It's just whatever we sell
(08:41):
on his birthday, that's it. We don't ever make anymore.
So if you're in the club, you get one, you
get one. If not, I guess you maybe have to
wait till the next round, or if you can find
it on for sale online somewhere. Sometimes people buy our
stuff and then resell it online. I guess maybe they
don't like it or they get tired of wearing it.
But I see people send people send me links like
is this your product? I saw it on posh Mark
(09:01):
whatever those places are, So yes, Stevenson's handwriting. Also the
podcast I did last week with my sister, I'm so
thankful that she was willing to come on and open
up and get vulnerable and share her side of my
eating disorder and how it affected her. So I highly
recommend if you have a loved one that has any
disordered eating habits at all and you have to deal
(09:23):
with that, to please listen to the episode, or if
you yourself are going through it and you're the one
with the disorder, that you would listen to it so
you know, kind of maybe from a family or friends
perspective kind of what they're experiencing. And then just a
reminder to the Outweigh series if you didn't check out
all four, I highly encourage you if you have any
body image issues, you struggle with food, over exercising, anything
(09:47):
like that, to go check out the Outweigh series that
lives inside the podcast. It's four episodes. I know some
people only listen to the first one, or they only
listen to the first two and then they did never
go back and finish the other two. So this is
just my little nut of encouragement to listen to all
four because we were very calculated with each episode having
different experts and different topics and different stories being shared
(10:08):
from real people just like you. So I want to
make sure that you'll hear them all. Next question is
from Mary. Hey girl, I was wondering if you finish
the new Hunger Games book, how was it? Is it
(10:29):
worth the read? Also any updates on the anti racism
books that you mentioned a while back. Have you finished
any of them? So? Yes, I finished the Ballad of
Songbirds and Snakes, which is the Hunger Games prequel book,
and I highly recommend it. It's so awesome. Mary finished
it as well. We were going to do a Friday
Night Live this last Friday, but we had to cancel
it because some family stuff came up. But I think
(10:51):
maybe we'll try to get to it this Friday. If
we do a Friday Night Live, it'll be like a
little mini book club about the book because it was
so good. Maybe I love it so much because I
was obsessed with Hunger Games, but it's amazing. I would
say if you haven't read any of the Hunger Games,
you should go back and read the first three books
and then read the prequel. Don't read this first and
(11:11):
then read the other ones. No start in the order
in which you're supposed to read them. And yeah, I
enjoyed it, which kind of along the same lines we
watched all the Hunger Games movies as a family, and
my kids loved it. We did that over like a
couple of weeks ago when we were on vacation, and
now my kids are into these kinds of storylines. So
then we watched all the Divergent movies, which I tried
(11:32):
reading those books and I just couldn't get into them
at all. And then this last weekend we watched the
three Maze Runner movies. Those are all about kids and
crazy things that are happening in the world, and I
love them all. At first, I was a little hesitant
about Maze Runner, but after the first movie I decided
to really commit because my kids loved it. And then
the second movie I paid more attention and I loved it,
(11:54):
and then I couldn't wait for us to watch the
third and figure out what was going to happen. So
there's some movie recommendations in there for you if you've
got young kids that can handle that kind of thing.
I debated whether or not Stevenson is old enough to
watch some of this stuff, but he's handled it fine.
And then when it comes back to books, the anti
racism books, the three that I was reading and have
(12:15):
read are how to be an anti racist white fragility?
And why are all the black kids sitting together in
the cafeteria. So if you're looking for good reads, I'll
just remind you all that those are the three that
I have personally consumed. I have the hard copies, but
then I also downloaded them and had the audible version.
So sometimes that's what I do. I understand like a
(12:37):
tip for if you've got time issues, but you're in
the car or you're on a walk, times where you
can't just have a book and be out reading. I
think it's important to read things at times too, but
you can do both. If you've got both, then you
can go from reading in your bed to hopping in
your car and picking up right where you left off
in the book. And then when you get out of
the car, and the next time you get to read,
(12:58):
you pick right back up where you left off on
the audible. So that's what I do to get through
things faster and be able to consume more, especially when
I'm trying to learn so much. And then I guess
those are also available if you want to see them
and you're not able to write them down. As you're
listening to this podcast again. They're on my Amazon page.
(13:19):
They're under my Books and inspiration, like all the different
books that I recommend here on the podcast at some
point or another, and even cookbooks are up there too,
which Stashira and I baked this weekend. She loves to bake.
And Lando Lakes had these lunch box cookies on their website.
They have a bunch of recipes. If you should go
(13:40):
to Lando Lakes dot com and you go to recipes,
you can see all the baked goods that they have
in lunchbox. Who's a co host on the Bobby Bones Show.
It was his birthday and I thought, oh, how perfect
we can make the Lando Lakes lunch box cookies for
lunch boxes birthday. And they have brown sugar and oat
meal and Eminem's and of course butter and eggs and
(14:03):
all the good stuff. But they turned out so good
and it was so easy, like it was a recipe
that Stuffio was really able to figure everything out and
nothing was too complicated, and they were yummy, and hey,
there's a little bit of color in there too with
the Eminem's which makes them look like really really pretty.
I didn't realize how fun I would I've never baked
really with Eminem's before, but I thought it was a
(14:24):
great addition and I'm gonna start adding that to my cookies.
They don't even have to be Eminem's. It just the
recipe says candy coated chocolate pieces. So it's called lunchbox
oatmeal cookies from Lando Lakes dot com if you are
looking for something fun to bake. Okay, all right, well
that's a wrap on today's episode. Appreciate y'all. I really
do enjoy hearing from you, so keep sending me notes
at Radio Amy on Instagram and then four things with
(14:47):
Amy Brown at gmail dot com. Oh, and then I
know I mentioned Mary and I doing a Friday Night Live.
I do run my own Instagram account at Radio Amy
sometimes I get messages saying is this really you? And
then I run the shops Law account so at shop

all the time. But of course with all the craziness.
We have not been able to go in a while
