Speaker 1 (00:04):
Happy Tuesday, everybody. Welcome to the Fifth Thing. This is
the email bonus episode of the four Things podcast, where
every Tuesday I share emails that you've sent in. Sometimes
it's inspiring, encouraging stuff that others should know about. Sometimes
it's you sending a question and I give an answer,
So you never know when your email may pop up
(00:24):
in this episode. The email address is four Things with
Amy Brown at gmail dot com in case you want
to send me a note. But we always start Tuesday
episodes off with a quote, and I decided to share
with you a quote that is in our new four
Things Gratitude Journal that we just put out, and I'm
obsessed with the cover and I thought, well, I'm just
(00:44):
going to pull a quote from this book and share
it with you all. And this is another reason why
gratitude is so important. This quote comes from William Arthur Award.
Gratitude can transform common days into Thanksgiving, turn routine jobs
into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into to blessings. So
y'all can go to Radio Amy dot com right now
to see the new journal, because again we're obsessed with
(01:06):
the cover and the quotes and the stickers, and of
course we love seeing all the orders come in and
the journals are supporting education in Haiti through Project Meta Share,
but all other spawn Four Things items are still supporting
My life Speaks, and today I'm actually gonna share with
you an update on some of the lives in Nepli
Haiti that you're helping out when you purchase the Four
Things tot or a Kolient pull over or star necklace
(01:28):
or anything else that we have up there. So I'll
get to that later on. But now I've got some
emails that you sent in. This first one is from Matt,
so hey me. I'm new to your podcast and also
trying to understand the new network that you just started
and where we can find out more about those podcasts.
I've been thinking about starting a podcast myself, and I
didn't know how to go about doing that. Are you
taking people under your network if we have good ideas,
(01:51):
So first of all, shout out Matt a mail listener.
I love when the guy listeners are represented with an email,
and this also makes me think of how there's competition
for the oldest listener of my podcast, and I think
my aunt has you all beat. So I've gotten emails
from a few people in their sixties, and then my
mother all is in her seventies and she's like, hey,
I listen every day. But I just found out my
(02:12):
ninety two year old aunt that lives in Arkansas listens
each week on her iPad two years old. So I'm
gonna actually try to get her on to share some
life advice with you all, because she's definitely lived a
full life, She's traveled the world, and I just think
that she might have some wisdom for us. So I
will work on getting her on and hopefully that will
be soon. Okay, back to Matt's question, I have started
(02:33):
my own network and it launched with three podcasts that
belong under the umbrella. Outweigh is one of them. It's
co hosted by me and Lisa Hame. The Truthiest Life
is the second one under the umbrella and it's hosted
by just Lisa, and then You Need Therapy as hosted
by licensed therapist Katherine de Fatah. So I'm currently not
taking on any other podcast at the moment, but since
(02:55):
the launch, I've definitely gotten a lot of emails, which
I think is great asking that very question that you're
asking Matt about people joining the network and if they
have a good idea, would I be able to take
them on. And I just want to say that I'm
not going to be adding anymore anytime soon, so just
kind of a blanket statement out there that I appreciate
all the emails, but I'm not in a place to
(03:16):
really vet any new podcasts. And I was able to
actually launch the three that we came out with this
year because we came up with a system that's a
well oiled machine between Lisa and Cat and we have
an awesome producer shout out Houston. Long story short, the
network will just host these three podcasts for the time being,
but it doesn't hurt to send in the emails and
(03:37):
maybe we'll keep them on file in case we do
try to expand later. But right now, I decided I
want to share a clip from each of the podcasts
so that you can see what they're like in case
you want to check them out, or better yet, subscribe
to each of them and maybe rate and review if
you have time, because that would be amazing. If you're
a part of our four Things family, which if you're
listening then you likely are then something that I would
(03:59):
for sure are she ate, is you taking two minutes
out of your day to subscribe and rate and review,
and I'll just thank you now in advance. But here's
some clips from each. The first clip is from Outweigh,
which is a podcast that we created because a life
without disordered eating or eating disorder. Outweighs Everything, and a
new episode goes up every Saturday. And here's a clip
(04:21):
from last weekend's episode, where we interviewed a girl named
Alexis who shared her eating disorder experience. In these last
like two years of college, was really just obsessed with
a few things, like with being the smartest and best
and prettiest and coolest. And I think that's an underlying
thing in the culture I was in a Northwestern It's
(04:42):
like you can't be trying too hard, but you have
to be everything, and everyone else is everything too, and
everyone would like come downstairs to eat to prove that
they didn't care what they looked like, but they still
had like these perfect or quote perfect, like society standard bodies.
So I was mentally confused, and I've been a little
(05:02):
obsessed with it because I was like, what I don't understand,
Like why we're all acting like this is so easy
when it's really just not. So I really encourage you,
whether you've struggled with some sort of disordered eating or
eating disorder yourself, or maybe somebody you know has, that
you listen to this podcast or share it with someone
that might need it. We hope that it will be
(05:24):
a tool to help people live a more fullfull life
and offer them hope that there is healing because I
think I lived so many years thinking that this is
just how I have to live, and I now know
it doesn't have to be that way and you can
be free. So definitely check out out WIGH for that.
And then Lisa co hosts out Way with Me like
(05:45):
I mentioned, but she also has her own podcast called
The Truth Eist Life, and she releases new episodes every Friday,
and she recently had on Ree lace ye On, who's
the founder of Fight Like Girls, which is an organization
that she created a he she survived and attempted murder.
And here's a clip of Lisa talking to breathe. I
(06:06):
want to teach women to fight back physically, and I'll
continue to do that, but I'm also simultaneously going to
be digging to the root of the problem, which is
at what point do men turn into monsters to abuse,
and how can I work with men, good men to
change the discussion to not make it about if girls
would do this or if people would always say, well,
(06:27):
if you would have closed your window, or if you
would have done that. And nothing infuriates me more than that,
because what I could sleep with my windows wide open,
and it is not okay for a man to come,
but it's put against the victim, and it's just the
conversation has to change, and we need each other to
do it. So I'm super proud of Lisa and her
(06:49):
chat that she had with Brie and all of the
interviews and episodes that she has coming up soon for
her podcast, The Truth FIUs Life. But you know, Breeze
started Fight Like Girls to help raise awareness that self
defense is just as mental, emotional, and spiritual as it
is physical. So I encourage you to check out her
organization as well as Lisa's podcast, because that's what we
(07:13):
want is for you to not just hear a podcast
and listen to Lisa or Cat or myself, but the
guests that we have on hopefully will bring some added
value to your life. And I think in Breeze case,
she can help us all become strong mentally, emotionally, and
physically to where we can take care of ourselves. Because
I bet in a million years Breen never thought she
(07:35):
would be in a situation where an intruder came into
her home and her life was almost taken from her.
And now she is sharing her story bravely and she's
helped giving us the tools to make sure if we're
ever in a situation, that we know how to protect ourselves.
So in the last clip I want to share with
you from the network, it's from Cats Unique Therapy podcast,
(07:55):
and here's a clip from a recent episode of Hers.
If you think about this idea, and I bring this
up all the time, but I think that we have
these two core desires when we're born. One is to
be loved and to belong and one is to be ourselves.
And at some point in our lives a lot of
times things will happen and we will feel like we
are not worthy of love because we are not getting
(08:17):
the love we want, and that go so far into
attachment and we've talked about that before. And so if
I grow up in this world where like I don't
feel like I love I'm loved, or I don't belong,
I will drop who I am so that second desire
to be who I am that becomes not so important.
I will pick things up and will drop things in
order to get that love and belonging need. Okay, so
(08:38):
there's a little taste of what to expect from the
three podcasts on the network. Again, I hope you check
them out, subscribe, rate, review all the things. Again, I'll
thank you one more time in advance for that. Okay.
(09:01):
Next email is from Summer. So, for the life of me,
I can't remember the name of the girl in Nashville
that you go to for face stuff. I live in
Tampa and thought I heard you say at one point
that she also works here, But again I can't remember
her Instagram, so I can't search for her. Okay, Summer, Yes,
her name is Carrie Claudell and her Instagram handle is
at the Nashville Beauty Girl. And I first met care
(09:23):
years ago after Kelsey Ballerini had posted about her on Instagram.
And she has helped my skin so much. And now
a lot of my friends here, Aaron Opria Caitlin, who's
Bobby's fiance, Kelly Henderson from Velvet's Edge, my sister goes
to her when she's in town, and you know, she's
now using all Zoe products. And then Mary, she lives
in California, so she doesn't see Carrie, but she was
(09:44):
already a Zoe fan and that's what she uses as well.
So I'm a Carrie fan, but I'm also a Zoe
products fan. So just heads up, I want to tell
you that Carrie is offering complimentary Zoe virtual skincare consults.
You can just go to her Instagram page again at
the Nashville Beauty Girl and click the link in her
bio to make an appointment for that. She's going to
(10:05):
be offering more dates because she has totally booked out,
but she told me she was going to open some
stuff up. And seriously, I'm just a big fan of Zoe,
big fan of Carry and if it's something you can
invest in, I recommend it. But as always, I like
to make it a point to say that it's not
lost on me that it's a pricier line of products.
There was for sure a time that I could not
afford skincare like this, So zero pressure, just telling those
(10:29):
that may want to know, and for sure wanted you
all to know that carries offering those complimentary consultations and
that she will personalize a plan for your skin needs,
which is her going the extra mile for you. So
heads up on that summer. I hope it helps. But
I mean, if you're in Tampa, she does work in
Nashville and Tampa, so you can d m her on
Instagram and probably just make an appointment to go see
(10:50):
her in person. But I know a lot of you
don't live in Nashville or Tampa, so that's where she
comes in with the virtual consults and again complimentary hit
her up at the Nashville Beauty Girl on Instagram. So
my podcast last week with Gracie and The Third Thing,
we talked about Jesus and politics. So a listener named
Jill emailed me this post that Sadie Robinson put up.
(11:12):
And since this episode is going to be going up
on Tuesday, the third, if you're listening to this, the
day that The Fifth Thing releases its election day, so
I thought I would share what Jill emailed in, which
was the post from Sadie Robinson. Here's what Sadie put up.
There are two people or a whole country is focused
on right now. And although it is important to pay
close attention to what they are doing and saying. I
(11:34):
do wonder if those two people are our biggest and
easiest distractions from ourselves. I have seen people saying the
most hateful things about these people, wishing they were dead,
mocking their weakness, being cruel about their appearance, and speaking
lies to spread more fear about one than the other.
We can debate all day long about the character of
these two people, but just for a moment, I want
(11:55):
to stop focusing on them and point to all of us,
the ones who are mocking, line, being cruel, being harsh,
being insensitive, and so much more. Are we any better
than these two people? My question is are they really
what's wrong with the country or are we? You may say, well, Sadie,
this is different. These people are running for president to
lead our country. We have to judge them. I hear you,
(12:18):
and I agree that we need to be discerning, wise
and lead others with the truth. But unfortunately, a lot
of what I'm seeing is not that I see hate, fear, dishonesty,
and downright bullying. And we the people make up this country.
I say all this more out of encouragement than anything
that the character of this country is not only the
fate of the two men in charge. The character of
(12:40):
this country is in you. Which thank you Jill for
emailing me this quote that Sadie put up. I do
follow her on Instagram that I definitely had missed that,
so I love that you shared that with me. So
another email that I got was actually a newsletter from
My Life Speaks, which is the organization in Haiti that
I told y'all supporting right now. We have been for
(13:01):
the last few months, but I think it's important to
give you all an update on what we're able to help.
When you shop ESPA, are you buy anything for things?
And part of the newsletter had several different updates, but
they gave an update on four new children, which I
thought was so fitting for the four Things podcast. Now
that's just a coincidence, but I thought, Okay, I'm going
(13:23):
to read about each child because there's hope in these stories,
and there's encouragement, and there's also a lot of gratitude
here because when you shop ESPA or you support an
organization like My Life Speaks directly, you're making an impact
and there is real change happening, and I think it's
fair that we relay that change to you, so you
(13:44):
know that, you know we're not just out here saying
oh yeah, yeah, we're helping these people. They really are
making a difference. So the first kid I'm going to
read about is Zion. I'm just gonna read verbatim with
the newsletter said we lovingly call him Chunky Boy. Now,
Zion has come a long way in just a month.
When he arrived, he was seven pounds and now he
weighs over ten pounds. He is growing every day and
(14:07):
loves spending time with his new mom and dad. He
is still spending the night with one of our My
Life Speaks staff. Due to construction at his soon to
be new home, we felt with his extra nutritional needs,
growing lungs and body, it was best to transition him
a little slower. He will be transitioning fully into his
forever home by the end of the month. Zion is
exceeding all of our expectations at this time. He loves
(14:28):
playing with his hands, feet and smiling and laughing and
getting to know his new brothers and sisters. He received
a complete medical work up with an exam by our pediatrician,
doctor Blaze, and had complete labs done. We are happy
to report he has one happy and healthy little boy.
The next child is Ella. This girl is all smiles.
She is happy all the time, unless she's hungry. She
(14:49):
has completely transitioned into life with her new family and
is loving it. She's a little bit spoiled from all
the love she receives from her new family and friends,
but we think it's completely worth it. She loves to
smile and this is her biggest form of communication. She
is eating well and growing quickly. She will be in
her new therapy routine at Life Therapy soon. She received
a complete and full medical work up as well, and
(15:10):
everything looks great. During her transition to her forever family.
While staying with the Wilson's, Ella found a love for
Alabama football. Missy even taught her roll Tide. The next
child update is Zara. She is our little bucking bull.
Zara has all the energy and we love it. Quickly
after her arrival to My Life Speaks, we realized that
Zara had little to no vision. Due to this, she
(15:32):
is constantly wanting to move, spin around, kick her legs,
and move her arms. She loves music and hearing people
talk or sing to her. She was the first to
transition full time into the sixth family home with Marcellon
and Donnia. She is a thriving with her new family.
She isn't much of a sleeper, but is working on
a routine to develop healthy sleeping patterns. When she had
(15:52):
her medical workup, Dr Blaze heard a sign of a
potential heart murmur. We are in the process of having
this checked out, but based on the results of her
labor an exam, don't feel like it's an issue at
this time. She did have scabies and is being treated
for this with medication from Life Clinic. And the fourth
child update is Norah. Norah quickly transitioned into family number
five and was instantly accepted and loved by everyone. Her
(16:15):
brothers and sisters tend to wrestle for her attention. They
love playing with her always and to be around her.
When her siblings return from school, the first thing they
ask is where is Nora. Nora will begin a therapy
routine at Life Therapy Clinic soon. We are excited to
see her gain strength and continue to grow into who
God created her to be. She is eating and playing
well as if she has been a part of this
(16:35):
family forever. She received a great report from her medical
work up, and we continue to work with her to
determine a proper neurological diagnosis. However, we remain confident that
her new family and their love will be the best
medicine ever. So there you go, zion Ella, Zara, Nora,
four kids that are being impacted by the help at
My Life Speaks and what they do for children with
(16:58):
special needs. Thank you Mike and Missy Wilson and everybody
else in My Life Speaks and all that you'll do
to help others. And to anybody that has been shopping
with us, thank you. You're amazing. Radio dot com for
links to anything a spoa or four Things and also
even pimp and Joy stuff. If y'all are doing any
Christmas shopping and you want to get somebody a shirt
(17:19):
that will represent choosing joy for yourself and spreading joy
to others, that's what pimp enjoy is all about. Or
if you want to customize the four Things to for
a friend or a sister or a mom, you just
think of four things that they like and throw them
up on a toe and it's a really thoughtful gift
that gives back, so it's a win win and I'm
just encouraging you all to do your Christmas shopping now.
I mean a lot of people are because anywhere you're
shopping from, I don't care if it's with us or
(17:40):
anybody else. You've got to get ahead of it because
with coronavirus there's just delays and limited capacity on things
and productions just weird. So get your orders in so
that way you can feel good about it, have it
checked off your list. You'll get them in the mail
in time. You get everything wrapped and feel good about it,
because why I put one other thing in your life
to start stressing about by waiting to shop like that'll
(18:03):
just add stress down the line. So this is for
me to you, trying to help you out and encourage
you with that. Whatever it looks like again, wherever you're shopping,
just put that on your to do list this week. Okay.
I hope you all are doing great, and I will
talk to you all again on Thursday for a four
Things episode. Just a heads up to if you've actually
made it to the last part of this and you're
(18:23):
still listening. I don't know for sure if I'll be
hosting a lot of things coming up. There's just some
things I need to take care of, and I might
have some takeovers with people guest hosting, whether it's this
Fifth Thing episode or the Four Things podcast, there may
be some new voices that you hear, but if there is,
(18:43):
I encourage you to still listen to the episode, because
they wouldn't be coming on if I didn't feel like
they had something to offer you. So I was thinking
about myself and if I were to tune into a
podcast that I really like and I heard an unfamiliar
voice hosting, I might be like, well, let's this, I'm
gonna just stop listening. But I'm just giving a warning.
Don't do that. Give it a listen anyways. And I
(19:03):
think my sister and her husband might be guest hosts.
Chase might be doing some Q and A stuff for me.
We'll see which is here the Fifth Thing. We used
to call it Q and A but now I'm just
calling it the Fifth Thing. And then I've got some
other friends lined up to host some stuff. I don't know.
Bobby said he might pop in and host something, but
I don't know for sure if that will happen. Again.
Thanks for listening, especially since I feel like I've been
(19:25):
rambling now at this point, if you haven't cut me off,
you're amazing and I just appreciate you all more than
you know. Talk to you later. Until then, you can
find me on Instagram at radio Amy and then again
the website radio amy dot com for anything else. Okay, bye,
