(00:00):
It is crazy. This morning,I get an update on my phone that
says the world's number one golfer,Scottie Scheffler arrested. I was just like,
what is happening. I couldn't getthat article open fast enough. And
then I said it to you,Josh. I was like, holy cow,
look at this. And then Istart reading it. And now you

(00:21):
just watched the video, which Ithink is interesting. I watched the video
of him being led away by thesecops and you could tell, man,
like they had a pep in theirstep. That was like they were gonna
get him. They were gonna gethim, no doubt they were gonna and
they did. And then there's thatpicture, I guess, floating around to
them, standing like as they like, as though it was some drug bust,

(00:42):
Like his golf bag is all spreadopen, like all of his clubs,
his te's, his balls, histowels, like taking pictures of it.
I mean, I tell you,man, you and I have a
little very I think I'm more indignantabout this than you are, because I
just think this was a impotent littleguy who wanted to make a name for

(01:03):
himself, who overreacted and witnesses atthe scene apparently are also saying that this
was this was a misunderstanding that heblew, that this cop escalated into this
huge thing where poor Scotty Scott he'sin jail. Scotty went to jail.
It's crazy to think the world's numberone golfer who was on his way by
the way on a road. Fromwhat I understand, there's only one road

(01:25):
into Valhalla and one, you know, the same road out, so it's
not like there's alternate roots to getin there. But there was a pedestrian,
according to the article, a pedestrianstruck there and killed and so as
a result, they had that roadclosed, and so Scotty went to go
around him because he's arriving to thegolf course. He had an early tea
time today and so he used afew shots back, which is irrelevant,

(01:48):
but he's playing in the tournament. It's the PGA, this is the second
major of the year. And sohe arrives and this road is closed or
blocked, and so he starts togo around because from what I under a
again, this is what I read, I didn't see the video or I
clearly wasn't there. And this isin Louisville, Kentucky, by the way,
just for geographical purposes. But hegoes. He starts to go around

(02:10):
what is closed, and the officerstarts screaming at him, and I guess
he basically disregards the officer screaming. Now, I don't know was Scotty's window
down. I don't know about anyof that. He probably just didn't hear
him. He's just trying to getinside the course. He's probably thinking,
oh, it's okay if I go, because I'm a golfer playing in this
time. I think that. Yeah, his car even said basically, lets

(02:32):
you know that this is a plancar, Yes, courtesy car to the
PGA Championship. So the cop hasgot to see that this is a golfer.
Now, the official police report isvery dramatic, So whenever you're ready
for me to read that, Iwill. Yeah, yeah, we'll get
to that here in a second. So I guess the officer then grabs onto

(02:54):
the vehicle, and according to thearticle, Scotty kept driving for about ten
and what did they say, tenyards thirty feet roughly with the officer hanging
Now, the other officers that areout of their ve they're working this scene.
Run over to his aid and thenthey pull Scotty out of the car.

(03:14):
So all these other officers they don'tknow anything going on except they look
over and see the guy that theywork with, the guy they're supposed to
have his back hanging onto a vehiclethat's driving. Now. I don't know
how fast or if he was barelymoving. I'm not exactly sure. How
do you if you're driving the vehicle, how do you maybe not see that
that officer grabbing your vehicle, grabbingon somehow, and then you keep driving.

(03:37):
You got to stop, you know, you got to stop right then?
If I don't think he was aware, what part did the did the
cop grab like the back see,I'm not sure if he grabbed the back
passenger door. I can understand howScotty wouldn't have noticed that at first.
So I don't know. I'm notsure exactly how this played out. I

(04:01):
don't know where he grabbed on thevehicle. I don't know if he was
like where he was hanging. I'mnot sure. I can't imagine he gets
dragged and then just you just hearthis pounder. Yeah, see right there,
there's the video right well, there'sa video of there's the mugshot.
Yeah, mister golf, Ray Hustikis joining us now, mister Golf,
this is clearly a misunderstanding on Itfeels like both sides. But I don't

(04:26):
know the stuff that you've been hearingus talking about, you is, are
those the kinds of things you've beenhearing about as well as we're obviously in
round two of the second major ofthe year here for the PGA. Yeah,
here's what I'm hearing from people I'vetalked to in the media center today.
Let's think, let's think about numbersand distances. Right, what what

(04:47):
what's the length of an average car? I mean it's something close to twenty
fifteen feet or something, right,So he drove and dragged this guy allegedly
the lengths of a car or twothat you guys have been to the memorial.
The traffic patterns at golf tournaments arealways wacky because you got you know,

(05:11):
the players have to get in orsomehow they don't helicopter or drone them
in, so they have special waysthey can get out, and maybe it's
not going the right way of thenormal traffic flow of the streets. And
Scotty was following exactly what the PGAChampionship had given him as the route for
players to follow to get in,just like he did yesterday, just like

(05:32):
he did all week. Just there. There's a part of the median that
they drive on on the entry andthere. And what's happened is this shuttle,
this horrible incident where the shuttle haskilled this person crossing the street is
not anywhere near that really, Imean, it has caused backups in the

(05:53):
traffic. That's related and related tothey changed the player entrance to Scotty wasn't
aware of the fact that there hadbeen a change. So he's driving some
place he shouldn't be, but hedidn't know it, and so here he
goes. Apparently the guy tried tostop him, banged on the car,

(06:14):
tried to grab the car or whatever, like you say, the back door
head. I don't. I don'tknow that. Nobody has said anything about
that. Scotty hasn't said anything aboutthat yet, and I haven't read anything.
But ultimately he stops and in it. Okay, whatever it is,
thirty feet or fifty feet or so, whatever the distance is, it's some
very short distance. It's raining,it's dark. I mean, he's there

(06:35):
at five point fifty or something inthe morning, right, oh, and
there's lots of traffic and we don'tknow now. Scotty rolls his window down
when he realized somebody's beating on thecar. And as soon as he rolls
the window down, the guy reachesin and grab the cop reaches in and
grabs him. They puts carr youknow, Scotty, puts carpark, you

(06:55):
know whatever. They drag Scotty outof the car and slams him up against
the car, hands up against thething, spread him, you know whatever,
and he's arrested. The ESPN reporterthat happened to be right there,
Scotty says, because he's standing rightnext to him, and the ESPN reporter
runs over. Scotty goes, canyou help me? Says, you know,

(07:17):
you can't help him. He's goingto jail and he's in cups that
fast and gone. Here's what That'swhat has happened. Now. They obviously
recognized that it was an enormous misunderstanding. He probably made a mistake, obviously
that he regrets. I'm talking aboutScotty at this point, but they let
him go immediately. He's back atthe course with a you know, not

(07:41):
quite an hour before his tea time. Thank goodness, the tea times were
put well, not thank goodness, they were pushed back as the awful event
that created them being pushed back. But for Scotty's sake, he's able to
play. He's out there as Caddy'sdoing a great job I think keeping him
focused. You know, he hada pretty good start and he's you know,
a great position in the golf tournamentexcept from Sephard. From all this,

(08:01):
I wonder if if he's convicted onthe felony, would he and Trump
end up selling mate somewhere for mistergolf. I think once they booked him
too. By the way, theygot it because he has a mugshot.
They put to that and mister golfthey gave him. They threw a second
degree felony that is punishable. Assauldon a second degree is sold on a

(08:24):
police officer. He is punishable upto fifteen to twenty years in prissed.
Now, listen, the DA inthis case is going to dismiss these charges
so fast it's going to make thatcops head spin. And I'm sure the
CoP's going to get a talking to, because are you telling me this guy,
Scotty Scheffler, this is a greatpoint. He's so arrogant, right,
Oh, he he's so he issuch a right, he's so full

(08:46):
of himself that he drives a twentythirteen Chevy Suburban that he drove in college.
He drives a twelve year old car. That's how arrogant Scotty Scheffler is,
even though he's made sixty million dollarsin the last three years. Yeah,
let's I mean, and we laughand it is kind of bizarre.
And I'm sure Scott is going tocome out with a statement regretting what he

(09:07):
did and saying, hey, Ishould have stopped sooner. I didn't realize
it was a policeman. I heardsomething. I heard a thump or somebody
hit the car or whatever. Ididn't know what it was. I stopped.
And you know, I mean,I'm sure he will explain it.
He he is a guy that hasa ton of integrity and all that.
And we kind of we run throughthese jokes about it, and I'm sure
there'll be all sorts of means andeverything else. That The fact, sad
fact, is that a man waskilled today, hit by a shuttle bus

(09:28):
he was running across the street wherethere wasn't a crosswalk. Again, it
was dark and raining and everybody's excitedand going to a golf tournament. And
this poor guy lost his life andit will, you know, certainly put
a stain on the day. AndScotty mentioned him and his family and the
brief statement that he made, youknow before he went and went out to
play. And we're in the middleof a golf tournament and it has not

(09:52):
hurt Scotty from a from a focusedstandpoint. He too off the lead.
He's having a great day of fiveunders. Mori kaya just bogie eighteen to
back up one, says. Scotti'sin second place, two shots behind Colin
more Car as we speak, andMari Kaiwa has now finished the second round.
Scotty still got a couple holes toplay. It is absolutely crazy to

(10:15):
watch today that that there's so manythings about this that feel kind of amazing
to me, mister Golf. Butone of the really amazing things is how
he has steadied himself given the crazystart to his day. I mean,
did you have to shoot a casualsixty six at Mahalla, Yeah, exactly.
And so the way that this isplaying out. First of all,

(10:37):
you're gonna knock me over with afeather. I was like, didn't have
that on my being, go carwhen I will go this morning, like
Scotti Shuffler arrested World number one golferhim like, say what? Immediately before
I started reading anything, I go, oh, man, he's had drinks.
He had too many pops. Andthen boom, he got you know
what? And then I started reading. I'm like what, like what?
I just kept saying what? ButI kept reading it. But it's interesting

(11:01):
the way all of this is playingout, as far as yeah, is
it a felony? A second degreefelony? Is that what you selling?
Second degree felony? Assault on acop? What was that statement? Listen
to this, mister. This isthe dramatic police report written up by the
detable. Detective Gillis was directing trafficin the Gate one of the Valhalla golf

(11:22):
Course due to the road being closedin both directions from an earlier fatal collision.
Listed subject aka Scottie Scheffler, wasdriving eastbound to gain access to the
course. Subject pulled into the westboundlanes where outbound traffic was flowing to avoid
backed up traffic. Detective Gillis wasin the middle of the westbound lanes in
full LMPD uniform and high visibility yellowreflective jacket. Detective Gillis stopped the subject

(11:48):
and attempted to give instructions. Thisis why he claimed subject refused to comply
an accelerated Ford, dragging detective DetectiveGillis to the ground. Detective Gillis suffered
pay swelling and abrasions to his leftforrist and knee. He was transported to
the hospital. This is the forfurther medical trapper right here. This is
the final line of the police report. Detective Gillis's uniform pants vollowed at approximately

(12:13):
eighty dollars were damaged beyond repair. That is about that is so dramatic,
are you telling me Scotti? Schefflerlike said no, flipped him off,
and then if Scotty goes, here'sone hundred dollars, keep the change,
get you some new pants. Sorryabout that. It's dark. I didn't
realize what was happening. I swearI would not have drug a police the
way it's worded. He okay,he'd attempted to give him instructions. Subject

(12:37):
refused to comply. An accelerated floor. It is those Scottie Scheffler just looked
at him, gave him the disregard, just like peeled out come off.
I think, I think when theytalk about attempted to give him instructions,
he may have talked about not actuallyspeaking words to him, but directing something
with a flashlighter with some other youknow, in some other manner to say

(12:58):
I need you to go here orgo there, and Scotty missed it or
wasn't paying attention or whatever it was. I mean, we all know how
how bad we feel for those copsthat work Buckeye football games at home after
the games trying to direct traffic, and what an awful, thankless job that
is. I'm sure this cop isgoing, I don't want to be at
the stupid golf tournament out here, freezing my butt off in the rain and

(13:22):
the cold and dark in the morning, and and you know we all have
seen those things happen too. Soin his defense, I'm sure, I'm
sure he was just in a badmood in the first place, being out
there. But yeah, I can'tfor people who have ever met Scotty or
watching an interview or know anything abouthim, He is not that guy that

(13:43):
they're trying to describe as, youknow, somebody who's just you know,
flipping off the cop and ignoring apolice officer's instructions. He would be the
last guy to ignore the instructions ofa law enforcement officer. It's been an
interesting little bit of time for ScottyShuffler these last couple of whatever weeks,
uh you know, with his uh, with his child being born yesterday,

(14:05):
holding out on whole number one thereto start off the second major of the
year, to go to under rightafter a whole number one. That was
interesting. So given all of this, and given the concentration he's able to
muster today, is he the guy? He's the guy to beat again.
That's I guess why he's world numberone, right. Yeah, And I
think I gotta be honest, Ithink the crowds will be cheering for him

(14:26):
even more now. I mean, and there will be some guys out there
wearing orange jump shoots. It'll beit. Yeah, it'll be a blast
over the weekend. But here's here'san interesting one. Let's let's skip up
to another player just for a second. Xander Schoffley has a three shot lead
after yesterday, he just teed offand he's two behind. I mean he

(14:48):
just birdied too, so he justbirdied two Xanders down to ten, so
he's one back. More college thereyou go. Yeah, yeah, man,
it's uh, it's great. There'sa lot changing and certainly the scoring
lower than anybody I think expected. It's a golf course that can be had.
But you know, quldin have expectedthat these kind of numbers, I
don't think. Well at this raignhad softened up and these guys are their

(15:09):
length. It's no problem. They'rejust throwing darts. I mean, it's
crazy. How as a matter offact, anybody who's around that, hovering
around that cut line, which Ithink is what is it going to be?
Ten back? I don't know exactlythe STIPs for this, but given
that boy year around even you gotto get it to you know, you
got to get into red figures oryou're you're not going to make the cut,

(15:31):
you know. Yeah, And JohnRahm is hanging around right there again,
another super disappointing Major. And youknow, this is the anti argument
to the people who talk about howgreat the l IV players play in major
championship, because he played awful inAugusta. Justin Thomas, big surprise there.

(15:54):
He's only a couple under part. He's playing at home. I thought
he'd have a great week Rory's justgetting ready to or yeah. I guess
he's walking down the first fairway aswe speak, and and he's now,
what six back or something. Uhyeah, So I think we're you know,
we're in for a great weekend. It's a super good leader board,

(16:14):
it's a great golf course that youknow, there's a lot of chances for
Berdiez on the back nine coming home, although those those last six can be
can you know, cause you canget you can make a double out there,
and that's what may happen, especiallyif we get a guy like Scheffler
in the league, because Scotti doesnot make big mistakes and and it seems
like when people are trying to chasehim, they're the ones that are just

(16:36):
falling out of the way. It'sit's very much like watching Jack Nicholas play
in major championships. Mister golf,Ray Hustik, as always, it's fantastic
to talk to you. Thanks forjumping on with us today. Have a
great weekend and watching, of coursethe second major of the O the PGA.
This is going to be a goodone, yeah,
