Speaker 1 (00:00):
As of course, I'm talking about the debate Kamala Harris
and President Trump. I just an interesting analysis right off
the top.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
As they were.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Getting ready to start, they kept calling him president Trump,
and I was just like, oh, they're not calling him
former President Trump.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
David Muir and uh, who was that, Lindsey, I don't
even I'm not even sure who that that was.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
They peaked with that, and it was all downhill from there.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
But I don't know if you recognize that or even
thought about that right away, but you know, I scrutinize
every little thing, and so when they started with you know,
president Trump, I was like, oh, okay, that was maybe
they're nervous, and they said president Trump, president Trump, president,
and they.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Crap attempt to look neutral even though it was it's
the single worst moderated debate I've ever witnessed.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Yeah, yeah, there's no question about that. He's GOP strategist.
Bob Clegg joining us again, and uh, Bob, welcome, get
into the show. I'm sure you watched last night, as
most of America did, And let's get your take right
off the top.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
What were your what were your thoughts about this?
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Obviously President Trump was president Trump. I mean, you pretty
much can expect what he's gonna do. I know a
lot of people on our side was were upset that
he didn't take advantage more of opportunities that he could
have done against Kamala Harris. But you know, I mean,
(01:33):
it is what it is. What I found interesting. There
were numerous times last night where she would like lead
him to the edge of the rabbit hole. And you know,
like when she was talking about his rallies and how
people leave early, I'm oh, no, oh, no, She's leading
(01:55):
him to the rabbit hole. She got gonna jump in. Yeah,
he jumped in. She got him, and you know that
was their game plan. But you know what's interesting about this.
I mean I'm seeing today that you know, most people
believe that she won the debate. But I've looked at
a couple of different things. One was a New York
Times story. The other one was a Reuters story where
(02:18):
they each had a group of undecided who they interviewed
before the debate and after the debate. And the Routers
group were ten people. After the debate, six of them
said they were going to vote for President Trump, three
said they were going to vote for Tamala Harris and
one still undecided. Same with the New York Times group.
(02:40):
The majority of them ended up going with President Trump.
And the reason they gave was given, you know, while
she may have projected a good image or whatever, she
still had no details of what she was going to
do as president. And people are not gonna put up
(03:03):
with that. They're sick and tired of her avoiding thing
any you.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Know what, Bob GFP strategy, Bob Clegg joining us right
out of the gate. You know, David Muir asked her about,
you know, four years ago people are sting, you know,
the better off and all that, and then she started
into I grew up in the middle class. She did
not answer that, and then it went from there. There
were no answers from her on basically anything that she
was asked. The bar was so low for her. All
(03:30):
she had to do was show up and not have
a word salad, and they considered that demonstrating a win
that she wants.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Well, they're comparing her to Joe Biden's last debate, right,
that was a bar you couldn't could not go over,
you know, yes.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Yeah, yeah, Bob, I mean, hey, Bob, I I do
I do have to say, though, and I was very
disappointed in his performance last night.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
I I you know it from.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Your Facebook posting, Yeah, thank.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
You, I listen, I'm not at no point. The election's
not over. We got a long way to go, do
da da all that. Having said that, man, she literally
gave gave him every opportunity to pounce and he got
distracted by the shiny keys again.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
And that is what I said, is it is ironic
that the founder of our constitutional conservative populist movement, he's
the founder of it, and yet he is actually one
of the worst spokesmen for it compared to some of
the other people.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
In the movement.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
And specifically I was thinking about somebody like the Veakron Maswamia,
because if he had just stayed on economy border crime, economy,
border crime, just no matter what was asked him, no
matter what he was tempted on, come back to that.
That's why myself and a lot of people were really
(05:04):
very disappointed and disgruntled with his performance last night.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Well, Josh, you're right, but it is Donald Trump, so
let's admit it's It wasn't surprising, Okay, also realized this
is kind of what everybody expects. Out of Donald Trump. Now,
you do make a good point. I believe if he
had been more effective last night, he probably could have
wrapped up this race. Okay, But as it is, it's
(05:32):
going to stay a very very close race. But we're
at a point in this campaign where we're so far
out of election day. There's gonna be so many more
things that are going to happen between now in November
fifth that is going to affect this rate and we
don't even know about it. I mean, just look over
(05:53):
the last couple months. What's gone on.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
You remember the you remember the Hollywood Access Billy Bush
video that didn't come out till the second week of October,
for God's sake, that's twenty sixteen.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Yeh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. And then then what
a week after that or a few days after that,
you had the James Colemy FBI thing on on Hillary,
which was even later. So yeah, I mean, we got
a long way to go. I feel I actually still
feel very good about this race. I think with Donald Trump,
(06:24):
since ninety nine point nine percent of the electorate to
have a pretty firm opinion about him, that these debates
don't really affect him. They would affect her more. And
I think from what I've seen so far, she while
she may have on the surface had a good night,
I don't think she ended up having a good night.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
GOP strategist Bob Plague is joining us.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Now.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
We're talking about the debate last night, you know, her
saying turn the page, and let's move forward and turn
the page, and oh, let's talk about Jay six and.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Let's talk about the twenty twenty election and how you.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Didn't want to tell people that you know you actually lost,
you're a denier and blah blah blah. You know, for
as somebody who kept saying, let's just turn the pain,
let's look to the future, that the past kept being
brought up, and we go all the way back to
Obamacare and know what's going And I.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Know the moderators are the ones who.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Kind of were teeing that up, but man to the
point where they were saying, look, it's three against one.
We know that that always is the situation with these
dumb moderators. So it's not like Trump was going into
it going I think this time they're not going to
do that to me.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
He was not loosey with the football.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
He knew they were going to move the football out
of the way, and he was gonna miss He knew
all of that. And then some of the stuff they
didn't ask about the most important things that people are
focusing on for this election. And I'm not just saying
what conservatives are focusing on. I'm saying America, by and large,
they want. It's not a bipartisan thing to want cheaper prices,
(07:54):
cheaper gas, and safety for your family and all of
those things that we've talked about. Oh my god, I
mean like we've done nothing but talk about that. It's
like groundhog Day for four years. But then there's some
of the list here with regard to I love how
he brought up Minnesota defunding the police and you know,
the whole situation with Minnesota student loan debt forgiveness. He's
(08:15):
talking about that, how they how the students are getting
it's a big sham on them. And here we go again, Uh,
the electric vehicle mandate. This is a list that they
put out. The moderators did not ask about the bail
funding for criminals, transgender operations, on illegal migrants that are
in prison, you know, rewriting Title nine regulations, reparations some
(08:36):
of that stuff was brought up, and then I was
in shock to hear David Muir bring up the whole
black She's not black or is she black? This with
that whole comment that is one thousand percent. Every single
thing that those moderators did, outside of maybe one or
two questions, was.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
All angled to lift her up, to elevate her, and
to beat him down. It was unbelievable to me.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Well, I mean, remember Mark that the Dana Bash and
Jake Tapper got criticized because they wouldn't fact check in
that previous debate, So you knew that these guys would
come out swinging ABC especially you know, I think it
was all priced in by the viewers. I think that's
why she didn't end up or she won't end up
(09:22):
with any big bump out of this debate, is that
it was so obvious what the moderators were doing that
even the average non political viewer could see it. And
when you go over the top that much, instead of
helping your candidate, which they tried to do, you, they
only ended up I think hurting her.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Yeah, but that's an excellent point, Bob.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Here here's my gut feeling.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
What excuse me, I had a Campbell's well, can't call
it super anymore. We'll get to that eventually, but noodle
in my throat. So anyway, I I think what Donald
Trump's strategy is forget it. I think he's going to
lose the national popular vote.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Okay, big whoop.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
But Bob, I think he is still in really good
shape where it matters in terms of the EC, the
Electoral College, and that that's he is basically going to
live live in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, and Wisconsin.
He's going to live in those five state five he's he.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Will not and maybe go go home.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
To Florida to catch a winky and play some golf.
That's it, Bob, do you do Do you see it
that way as well?
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Yeah? I see it that way. You know, they know
that it really gets down I hate to say it,
it really just gets down to Pennsylvania. And uh, we
lucked out so much when she didn't pick Josh Shapiro
as her vice presidential running mate, because I think that
probably or could have put Pennsylvania off the table.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Does he do another debate? Does he do another debate?
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Bob? You know what I think, to be honest, I
think she's gonna want another debate.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
She already said that, She's already said that.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
I just yeah, well, I think she's really gonna want one.
I mean, she's saying it now just because she's trying
to take a so called victory. Laugh. But I think
what's gonna happen come early October. We're either at this
same place which is dead even or maybe even President
Trump slightly ahead and there, and they're gonna want a
(11:36):
debate badly.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
It has to be, you can't. It has to be.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
There's got to be a little more give for for
the conservatives here. There's got to be a little guy here.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
That's right, because last I proved the dangers of just
capitulating to all their rules. Last I was a great
example why you don't capitulate to all their rules.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Correct.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
Well, what I would do if I was President Trump
and she comes to me in early October and says
I want to do a debate, he should say, you
know what, I've already done two debates with two different
presidential candidates. Now, if they take you off the ticket
and put somebody else on to take your place, I'll
do a third debate then. But other than that, I
(12:19):
wouldn't do a debate.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Oh interesting, Okay, I like him in another debate, I
really do. I don't think last night hurt him. It
wasn't the greatest performance. We all know that, we saw
all of that. I do agree with most of the
assessment of the way last night went. I don't think
people are going to vote for him, or already voting
for him. People are going to vote for her. Did
not jump ship and come over to Trump. They know
(12:43):
what they'll get with her, this empty, vapid human being
who all she has to keep saying is understand this,
understand this. And all she did on these questions was
set up a scenario or tell a story.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
There weren't any answers.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
There weren't even hard policy, There wasn't any of that stuff.
I think people are growing tired of that, and I
want to see her talk about that. The next thing
I really want to see is her take some questions
live from the press pool or something like that, not
something pre recorded, not something that can be chopped up
or edited or you know, get the.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Same a press confer want something live.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Trump should say, you got to do some live stuff
and let's see then where we're at, you know, kind
of I don't know.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
She's got to do it.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
She should be she should be forced to give a
press conference. And because let me tell you something, the
White House Press Corps is not happy with her right now, Bob.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
They are no, no, And you know what, guys, the
bottom line on this, she's got a big problem in
that seventy percent of the country thinks we're on the
wrong track. And you know what, she had the perfect
opportunity last night to tell the American people how she's
going to put the country on the right track. And
she didn't say anything about that. Oh, and that's going
(13:55):
to be her biggest problem for the rest of this campaign.
And by the way, us talk about how she's going
to be different and how she's going to get this
country back on track.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Oh and by the.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Way, all the stuff she's talking about broken stuff, all
of that's happened during her administration.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
So she's had all this time, she's had all this
time to fix it.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Yeah, she's had all this time to fix it, and
they've done nothing. They've done nothing. He even brought it up.
He goes, let's end this early, right now, you go
back to the White House. Wake up, Joe, get him
out of bed.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Yeah, close the border right now. You can do it
right now. Well, and let me.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Tell you something something because just what you were saying
though his closing statement was the highlight of his night.
Really well, that was a great because he goes, where
have you been? You've had three and a half years.
You talk about this, you talk about that, you're gonna
do this, You're gonna do that. You had three and
a half years. Why haven't you done it? That was
the point he's got to keep driving home.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
GOP strategist Bob Cleggs, thank you very much for jumping
on with us.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Brother. We appreciate this so much.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
We're going to get to phone calls here straight ahead
and get people's thoughts, listeners, thoughts on what how they
thought the debate went, their thoughts and all of that.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
At
