eight hundred six to ten WTVN. The Legacy Retirement Group

again is here with us from ABC six, Fox twenty eight,
of course, and real quick. I'm just gonna throw this.
There'll be more on it during the show. But the
(00:52):
breaking news from a little bit ago, Matt Gates withdraws
from consideration as Trump's Attorney General, which I don't think
anybody had on their Bengo.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Card today, certainly not for today.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
I was like, if he didn't become attorney general, that's
that's one conversation.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Because there was a lot. There was a lot on
that for him to jump through to back out today.
Didn't see that coming.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
It was It's bizarre that it that it timed out
the way that it did. There's a statement from Trump
and so on, but we'll get to a little bit
later on in the show. But yeah, I didn't. I
didn't understand. So he he resigned, he uh, from from
the house. So now what I mean, Gosh, this is
(01:33):
this is one of those things that's a head scratcher
for sure.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
So completely planned, trust me.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
So yeah, Chuck is saying that it's completely planned. But
you didn't call this ahead of time and say he's
gonna drop out.
Speaker 5 (01:46):
We talked. I did not he was dropping out. No,
but I told you yesterday. I think it is entirely
possible that what Donald Trump would do is make himself
look good by saying, you know, there's too much baggage here.
We didn't know this when he was nominated. We've asked
him to withdraw.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Didn't Gates just get re elected.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Yeah, so he resigned from this Congress, though not the
next congress.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Technically he was just.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Okay that did I would be speculating now because I
was not aware of well.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
I mean, that's that's just what I'm I mean, And
a lawyer would would kind of work the system possibly
in that way. So he resigns from this Congress before
everyone's sworn in in the new year, which is the
next congress, maybe he's maybe it's semantics, Maybe he's just
(02:36):
stepping away for a moment and he'll just be back
in his same role in a couple of months, because.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
That would make sense if that is the case, because
he is a Trump loyalist, there's no question about that.
Trump is surrounding himself with people who are going to
help his agenda one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
So he's still in the mix just and as not.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
A member of Congress, he can no longer be persecuted,
prosecutor or investigated because he's out now.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah, because they were they well, they had pulled that,
and that's where some of the some of those ethics. Yeah,
right exactly, So that's where and some people were like, well, loocrasy,
and I look when the Republicans are doing.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
How'd that go?
Speaker 2 (03:16):
The Republicans look at the hypocrisy yarned online? Yeah, the
plot tickets.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
It's really true, And and isn't that just kind of
how this has gone since election day. It's just these
are not nominations that I thought that I think anybody
saw coming. With the exception of RFK, I think people
knew that he would be part of the administration in
some capacity for the FDA side and Health and Human Services.
I feel like people saw that coming, but I don't.
(03:47):
I don't know that everybody saw Matt Gates being nominated
for attorney general, and it's just created this this new
domino effect here.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Or Pete Heggsath for.
Speaker 6 (03:56):
The defense Defense. Yeah, also shocking, but but interesting. More
news on him today as well, because the Democrats are
trying their best to soil anybody who's going to be
connected or trying to move forward here. We know that
the styme he is on, that's what they always do.
That's what the Republicans do too.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
So yeah, you know, part of his statement that he
put on X was I had excellent meetings with senators yesterday.
This is Gates. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback and the
incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong,
it's clear my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to
the critical work of the Trump vance transition. There's no
time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle. Thus,
(04:39):
I'll be withdrawing my name in consideration. Blah blah blah.
Trump's DJ must be in place and ready on day one.
So that was his his statement.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
So now he's if he has resigned from this Congress,
and now he has taken his name out of contention
for this position, he kind of just steps aside, lets
this all play out, and then steps into his.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
I didn't realize Congress. I didn't realize that part of it.
And I don't know if you resign, if you even
if you is he out now? Even though he was
technically elected for the next.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
One for I feel like they're they're different. He resigned
from this Congress. I don't know else. But that's that's
the kind of thing that a lawyer would know, all
of the little the little details too.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
Yes, that's a very interesting question.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
The system two to make this work in a way.
You said this was planned, Yeah, I think so. Maybe
there is something there. It'll be interesting to see what
plays out in this process.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
For taking Carol.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
You know that's a Trump thing that the loyals are
always too. I'm still waiting on a check to be
written to bail out Giuliani. I really think, uh, you know,
after things quiet down, the spotlight's not there very quietly,
Rudy Giuliani will be uh taking out of his little
financial hell and at least living a normal life.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Here's another. Here's another angle that was sent to me.
Could be a problem in the house if the wine
picks might carry to replace Vance. So there's that. And
this is on a this is away from Gates. But
this is just a separate thing with regard to the
house or whatever. And uh yeah, here's another. Okay, well
(06:26):
why not. Let's just hey, Dean, are you there?
Speaker 7 (06:30):
Yes, I'm here.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
So Dean, what what are your thoughts? This is an
interesting comment? Go ahead.
Speaker 8 (06:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (06:37):
I think they're ended up putting him in as sender
and Ruby set what will happen? Somebody the high up
in the government I picked. I know that said will happen.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
That's completely I have not considered that.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
Yeah, he's gonna They're gonna have to put somebody in Ruby.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
O sea, what do we do?
Speaker 4 (06:59):
We know what the deadlines are for this when we
have to hear from DeWine to replace Vance.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
I think he's got up till the inauguration, doesn't he
till vance is actually vice president?
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Do you know what the timelines look like this with
your with some of your.
Speaker 7 (07:14):
Contacts, he's gotten till squearing in January first, having met
ready to be sworn in on January first.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Oh, okay, n thanks, I appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
That's I think that's completely feasible. I don't know what
the dynamic is between Gates and DeSantis, but out of
loyalty to Trump, Desanta's may very well say, Okay, Gates
is our senator to replace Rubio, that we use no
seats and don't have to worry. That's the concern. What
carry we got razor within in the house.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Exactly, And that's where that speculation came from as well,
which I love all the different scenarios that are popping
up right now.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
I'm not good at chess, Okay, I play checkers. I
don't know how to play this game and figure out
all the ins and outs.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
That's what I did hear this sit here?
Speaker 2 (08:07):
The I did hear?
Speaker 5 (08:11):
What is it?
Speaker 8 (08:11):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (08:12):
Oh uh?
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Now I'm getting I think Congressman, if I don't know
if I'm supposed to say who sent me this? But
are you able to call right now? Because he's listening?
So are you able to call in right now? That's
what I because I would like for you to say it.
I don't want to overstep my boundary.
Speaker 8 (08:34):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I don't know what I'm allowed to.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
I'm not always. It's a conundrum because if you say
I supposed to h.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Yeah, I don't want to do that. I'm I'm That's
why I'm inviting him since he's listening right now. He's
literally commenting on what we're talking about. So you know,
there are a couple of people I think that listen
here and there, and he happens to be listening right now.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
So I said, hey, no, people look at you.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
No, I said, are you able to? Are you able
to call it? The phone's ringing right now?
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Okay, Uh, let's.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Do where's zach Oh? I'm like, dude, grab that.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
What are you doing?
Speaker 2 (09:11):
I just watched it ring for what felt like five minutes.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
He's in there on the cable watching reruns a Little
Love Vote, probably Jack Jones, America's crooner. He's looking up.
Speaker 7 (09:22):
All the car.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
In this hour I here with you.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Congressman Walterson, are you there?
Speaker 8 (09:30):
Absolutely right?
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Oh, so bring us through this, you know, reset this?
What is she? What is she correct about?
Speaker 8 (09:39):
So Matt Gates won reelection, so he resigned from this Congress.
So Speaker Johnson has reached out to Ron DeSantis last
week when Trump gave Gates the nomination, so they have
to have a special election to fill Gates a seat.
(10:01):
Now they can retrap that. We'll see. But station is right.
He won reelection for the next.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Congress, so in essence he could retract the special election
for the seat. And since he won, he gets Gates
gets reinstated into the House starting win January third, January third,
So do you in your estimation and I don't know
if you even know what's really happening or is that
(10:30):
very feasible?
Speaker 8 (10:32):
I think it is feasible. I didn't know Matt dropped.
I was in the plane so flying back, so I
didn't know Matt got out. So but there was we
had a conversation about Matt winning re election. And then
the other piece I told you scuttle around the hill
this last couple of days is Lord Trump wants that
(10:53):
potentially could want that Senate seat have heard.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
That Rubio too?
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Oh wow.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Well, the thing is this is all about making sure
the votes are and look I right or wrong? You know, Trump,
I feel with the popular vote, with clearly the electoral
college vote, has earned the right. And I've heard this
pedaled already. He's earned the right to surround and make
sure that Upper and Lower are ready to go, and
(11:26):
they're going to be on board. And you know, some
were speculating, is John Thun the guy taking over you know,
going to be you know, the House major, a Senate
majority leader, and so is he the guy? I mean,
there's all kind of like why wasn't Rick Scott? I mean,
there's all this stuff, Troy and I haven't been able
to talk to you about any of it. So sorry
to actually just spring it on you while we're on
(11:46):
the here live right, So great, And Troy's like, wait,
I called to talk about Matt Gates, not all the
other stuff going on.
Speaker 8 (11:55):
You're fine, You're fine.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
It's just so much is happening. It's it's like if
you if you just nod off for thirty seconds, you
missed like six plane.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
You get on a plane and then you hop off
and you're like, wait a minute, right.
Speaker 8 (12:08):
Yeah, a fifty minute plane ride, mind you, not an
hour and a half two hour fifty playing ride.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 8 (12:15):
Well we'll get some more detail.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
For you, Blazer. Okay, that sounds good. Hey man, I
really appreciate you taking a minute to call in. I'm
sure are you traveling right now?
Speaker 8 (12:25):
Yeah? I'm driving home.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Okay, all right, that's cool. Well, good man, great to
talk to.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
You and to talk to you, Congressman.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Balls and yeah, thanks you to Chuck.
Speaker 8 (12:37):
Good to hear you say you guys, thanks.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Man, thanks. Yeah, so all right, cool, you were spot
on with that. I love it, Stasia, look at you.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
I am I'm intrigued to see where.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
This goes because I, like I said, I think we
figured it out. But the chess games that are being
played with all of these pieces are just I can't
wait till I wish I had a crystal ball.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
See ahead.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
So the recess appointment, which is a thing where it
can you know, he keeps them out of session and
basically appoints somebody like Gates right in this situation. And
what I also found out was it's only good for
well at least, this is what I heard this morning.
I didn't verify any of it, but it came from
I believe a pretty reliable source. Only good for two
(13:23):
years at that point, and you don't get paid for
those two years. Oh as the appointment really, Oh, when
there's a recess appointment, there's no money involved. You're not
getting a nickel out of the government when you work
for twenty four months for free.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
Wow. I didn't know that either. Well, I don't like
that because that's basically saying, Okay, only rich people are
going to be considered for recess appointments. You can't be,
you know, a work and stiff representing your constituents and
work for nothing particulately.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
And it doesn't that also put that person under duress
for where they are willing to make accommodations to big donors.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
And yes, I see what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
I feel like put more on the.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
Take, right if you will, And then you're then you're
under the thumb of all these people who have kept
you afloat during that time. And now that's who you
you consider your responsibilities to, not your constituents. This is complicated,
Sollas of gun Well, the recess, the recess appointments are
(14:23):
a big, huge no.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
No, I mean as far as doing that for obvious reasons.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
So they they basically were saying that this was a consideration.
He could do this if he wanted, but it was
immensely frowned upon.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
So I'd frown on it too. You want me to
work for two years in no check, Not.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
By the person that's getting a pointed, just by everybody else.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Stress involved alone, just is I mean, wow, that is fascinating.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
I had no idea.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Yeah, there's all kinds of little little nuances and things
that that type of stuff. I again, I was told
by pretty reliable hopefully that's.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
This is like so educational today. I'm kind of just
intimidated being in this room right now. It's pretty cool.
I'm learning stuff and that freaks me out.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
