Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh yeah, here we go and it's finally Friday. Oh man,
I'm so happy. Finally it is here tonight. Of course
the Buckeyes, this is an exciting day. We got snow
coming in in the next couple of hours, and so
we'll have the very latest on that, the time that
the snow will be arriving, the totals so on. We'll
check in live with chief media wologists Marshall Lake Peek

(00:20):
in just a couple of minutes. But right now he's
part of our best Buckeye coverage. Roy Hall is joining
us now, my brother, welcome in. It's finally here. It's
finally happening. How you doing, man, I'm doing well.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
I feel like blades. I feel like I'm still in Columbus.
Finally this snow hit. I guess. Yesterday I'm looking around listen, man,
people were running in the hotel like it was a
full on end of the world blizzard. It was unbelievable,
Like down here, there's no salt, there's no anything, it's
just slush. Cars was on the side of the road.

(00:55):
When we went to the to the Cotton Bowl yesterday
with the team. Man, it was crazy easy. It's cold,
it looks literally like Columbus, Ohio. It's not a wrong
with Columbus, Ohio. I'm not saying that. You know, people
back last now, I love Columbus and the snow in Ohio.
But when you come to Dallas, man, you're looking for
you know, the Dallas Cowboys stars, and you're looking for

(01:15):
nice weather at least in the sixties. It is cold
and snowy outside. You know.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
When I believe when you late and then it'll be
warm and it'll be what it's supposed to be. But
it'll be after Roy Hall leaves, not right now, man,
that's out.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
So what you're trying to say is when I show
up it gets cold outside.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Well, I think you brought it there with you. Could
someone argue that.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Listen, it's probably fifteen to twenty thousand Buckeye fans that
descended down here from Columbus, and you put the cold
weather on meat. It's ridiculous, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
I guess that's unfair. I shouldn't say that it was
It's their fault, not yours, for sure. I mean that's
how we'll process that.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
I guess, right, man, it's somebody else's fault. It's definitely
not mine. You're not putting that.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
On me, all right, all right, fair, fair enough, we'll
we'll we'll not put it on you. Then let's start
with last night. Were you watching the Orange Bowl? Your
takeaway from that, Notre Dame is going to the National Championship,
So hopefully that's who will be playing after we win tonight.
More on our game tonight in a few minutes. But
were you watching last night?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Oh? I watched the entire game is for the most part,
you know, they even had it on around here in
the hotels. Obviously, it was awesome to see my former
teammate Marcus Freeman, you know, take this team to the
national title game. That's huge for him. Obviously, it's just
good to see him. I love more than anything. I'm
looking at the Notre Dame team and I'm looking at
their resilience. They're just a gritty bunch, you know. I

(02:42):
know Marcus played under coach Trustle, but his team reminds
us of a new age that reminds me of a
new age kind of two thousand and two esque, early
two thousand Jim Trustle team where you play sound football,
you try not to turn the football over and win
the turnover margin. Win the rushing game, and make a
big play when you have to. When you look at
his demeanor, how he answers questions when he's getting questions

(03:05):
from the reporters, and even postgame, when you know they
tried to make it about him being the first black
coach to make it to a college football playoff national
championship game, he immediately said, you know, whether it's black, Asian, white,
it doesn't matter what eity ethnicity you are, as long
as he just wants good people to have an opportunity

(03:27):
to lead men and young men. I thought that was fantastic, man.
So you could only root for that guy leading up
to right now. However, when we win tonight, I will
not be rooting for him win anything, and I won't
care to HeSE the first black head coach to play
in a college football game. I hope he loses and
they lose, Like I'm a one thousand percent against him
at that point. But right now, they played well man

(03:49):
and did what they had to do.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
I'm glad you brought up Marcus, because yeah, that was
what I was gonna ask you. A couple of questions about,
of course, being a former teammate of yours, and would
you say what this Notre Dame team is right now?
The way that they represent is kind of a representative
of their coach. I mean you kind of talked about it,
the gritty style and all of that. I mean, he's

(04:12):
a worker, that guy, There's no question about that. It
felt like the team reflects kind of his style and
his just his whole demeanor.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah. Yeah, Marcus and the entire team, they deserve everything
that they're getting. You know, you lose to Northern Illinois
earlier in the year and people are already talking about
Marcus being on the hot seat potentially, like he's always
losing these games randomly. I think two years ago they
lost to Marshall and everybody was looking at them crazy.
But to run off nine or ten or eleven consecutive
wins after that particular moment and to have his team

(04:42):
in the national title game is just absolutely awesome. And
so that team is gritty. They don't back down. When
you listen to the players, even postgame interviews, I mean
you hear our team as well, just giving glory to
God and glory to Jesus. I mean that it's a
faith journey for both teams. The specific file State and
Notre Dame absolutely awesome. But you understand when people start

(05:03):
talking about their faith blade that it's nothing. It's not
about just winning the title. It's not it's bigger than them, right,
and they're representing something bigger than them. And whenever you
can get a team to tie in to a mission,
a motto, their faith, whatever it is to Brent, purpose
driven fulfillment. Coach Ryan dave And said that our team
plays the best when they're playing for each other. And

(05:25):
so when it's bigger than you and your accolades and
your stats and breaking records as we saw. Maybe I'm
not knocking the kid at Miami, but just play a
first half of a game and then decide to come out,
because after you broke the record, that's tough. Man. So
like when you're playing for more than yourself and something
bigger than yourself, good things happen. So that's why you
see good things happen for Notre Dame, and I think
that's why you're gonna see good things happening for us

(05:46):
as well.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah, last night they had the game on. I was
at the Columbus Blue Jackets game last night and they
had listen.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Man, you always get listen, man, you are a VIP
out here man, like you just say that, like you
were just up in the last row at the top
of their they had you on the ice. I heard
they had you on ice.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Brother, you don't want to see me, my fat butt
on the ice.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Man.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
We're in big trouble if I'm out there and somebody,
we're gonna need nine one one probably shortly after if
I get on the ice. But no, I.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Actually, hey, lady, people all black people. But if I
feel the same thing for thee on the ice suit,
we don't really want to be gonna call that what
we don't get on the ice.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Well, they had the game on anyway, where I was
going with that is I kind of thought to myself,
you know, at the beginning, Penn State was dominating that game,
and I didn't really get to see much because I
was paying attention to the Jackets and so on. But yeah,
to see them at the very beginning and then to
finally see the end, you know, the final score, I
was just like, Wow, good for them, and I'm happy

(06:43):
with the Marcus Freeman Ohio State connection. It's gonna be
extra special once we dispose of the Texas Longhorns tonight,
which brings us, of course to the Cotton Bowl. The
Buckeyes have this one in front of them before obviously
the uh the national championship. But first and foremost, the
very important thing that we want to establish here, Roy

(07:05):
is is there a McDonald's near you where you're staying
there in Dallas.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
I think they shut down every restaurant in fifteen miles
of Dallas because of the snow. I don't understand, like
I haven't seen the McDonald's. I saw CBS open, you know,
which allows me to go in there and get some
high cheese. I like highchea candy. But the McDonald's wasn't open.
I am glad to be at the hotel to staying

(07:31):
with the team, and so I got a chance to eat,
and you know, I got the scraps off the table,
whatever was left over. I walked in and got the scraps.
I did chapel last night, which was awesome. So they
gave me a couple of pieces of meat because because
I was able to do some chapel, got some mac
and cheese. I got some protein and couple free datorades.
But you know, no McDonald's for me down here. TVs

(07:54):
was open, which is awesome, So I got some snacks.
But I'm excited, man. I'm packing them in the back
and hopefully they don't check it and pull my high
shows out. But I'm excited about the Texas game, man.
Like it's crazy down here, man, Like, we're ready to go. Man.
I looked at those guys last night. They are locked in,
ready to go, man, and they're excited about the opportunity.
You know, this is a long season, Blazer. This is

(08:16):
game number fifteen, which is out of control. You know,
in sixteen games with it. That's the NFL season, man,
and these guys haven't had the time off that you
would normally get. These coaches are exhausted, but everybody's grinding
through it. Man. So I'm excited about tonight.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Well, hopefully the high Choose, but please don't misplace those
because those are very important. You got to hold on
to the high Choose. But I gotta feel like you
ain't gonna be misplacing those. I really do sorry that
you're probably by the end of this trip you'll be
jones and for a file of fish, but hopefully that
you can land one of those sooner rather than later.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
And I'm looking forward to it. Man, You got to
order them with like extra tartar sauce. You do it
because you know, sometimes they give you those buns that
just feel like they you know, these aren't fresh, and
you know the fishing. You know, the worst is when
you go through the McDonald's rives. Do you order extra
tartar sauce and they just take one as already in
the band? Yeah, square the extra tartar sauce wrong dropped

(09:09):
pil a.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Man, yeah, exactly. So the buck guys start leading up
to I think it was about a day or two ago,
maybe even three something somewhere around there, they were five
and a half point favorites. They've now went to six
I think last I looked, And so that means more
money was coming in on Texas, and so they bump up.
You know, the Buckeyes now I think a six point

(09:30):
favorite or whatever. Do you like that they're favored like this,
because I mean they they were favored against Oregon just barely,
but clearly they took care of business that well Tennessee
and with Oregon. But tonight, do you think the same.
Does it feel like to you as you look at
the guys and you watch them in their interaction and
you know, being a player and all of that, when

(09:52):
you see them and you watch them and you observe them.
Is it the same team that played the balls? Is
it the same team that played the Ducks?

Speaker 2 (10:00):
I believe the same team will show up. There was
a revenge piece, you know, get back game at the
Rose Bowl. We really feel like we could have won
that Oregon game. Obviously we know how it turned out.
We kind of ran out of time there. But I
think versus Oregon, it was like, hey, we can get back.
Oregon set out they felt confident that they could beat

(10:20):
us again. But I think we're on a mission right now.
I think versus Texas, we recognize that they got athletes
all over the field. They got the bulletan not blittan
across the Jim Thorpe Award winner over there on the defense.
And then we'll probably have and we do have probably
what'll end up being the Bulletant Croff winner next year
in Jeremiah Smith. So we'll see some good matchups from
that standpoint. They got a great defensive line and again,

(10:41):
athletes all over the field, five stars all over the field.
It's really gonna turn come down to who turns the
ball over. Man, Like, if we can get Quinn to
throw a couple couple picks here and there, Texas is
a front runner. They get off the fast starts and
then they end up throttling down a little bit and
start making some mistakes. So it's gonna definitely be a
four quarter game. But you know, I see us coming
out hitting them in the mouth. We're going to throw

(11:02):
the football. Well, I think it's going to be a
better game in regards to matchup than Oregon was. But
I think at the end of the day, the Buckeyes
will win.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
You know, you mentioned quinn yours. Is that whole side
story thing. Is that really a thing? Or is that
just the media making it a thing? Or do you
feel that where you're at obviously on the inside, is
it really a thing?

Speaker 2 (11:23):
I think it's a thing in life in general. Whenever
you were somewhere or with someone and then you get
an opportunity to show them who you are now, the
newest and best version of yourself, whether it's a bad breakup,
you get a promotion, or go to a different company,
or someone didn't hire you that you wanted to hire.
Like whenever you get to see someone in the future,
when you're a better version of yourself, there's always that

(11:45):
I want to show you who I am today and
show you how or what you either missed out on
or show you what it could have been, or just
prove to yourself that you made the best decision. And
so I think for Quinn from a personal standpoint, he's
looking at it like, hey, man, I got some friends
over there at Ohiose they gave me a great opportunity
over there at a house state and I really wanted
to make it work, but it didn't. And so I
want to make sure I show not only where I

(12:07):
am currently for him Texas, but also show Ohio State
man like I was, I was a great talent, and
you know, like I'm still doing well without you. And
so I think from a human element, he wants to
go out there and show that he made the best
decision that he did and show and proved that it
was the best decision he could make.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Well, it's at seven thirty tonight on ESPN. It's Jerry's
world there in it's Arlington, Texas technically, right, Roy, I
think it's Arlington where that's uh ask me.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
I'm a geography major, bro, Like, technically, I don't know. Well,
we're gonna play. We're gonna play in that big spaceship
looking thing in the middle of you know what's funny.
We went over there yesterday. It's like a random apartment
complex right next to it. It's like Jerry was like,
you know what, y'all need to move out the way
so I can plant your team right here. I don't
care if you've been residenting here for long. It's just random.

(12:58):
Like it's crazy. Man, the face ship in the middle
of nowhere.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Well, how about this. Can you try to help facilitate
Will Howard getting on stage after the win tonight because
we saw what happened last time. Hopefully Will can get
up on stage for the presentation or for TV or
whatever it is.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Man, you're trying to get me in trouble, bro. I
just told you that I got the scraps off the
table for dinner, and I'm sorry to get into an
argument with the old dude that's keeping people off the stage.
They will arrest me down here, and I won't be
back in Columbus. I'll be hitting you up, like, hey,
magg you come get me here. Right, brother, I got
no pull down there in Arlington. If that's where we are,
I just know it feels like Columbus because it's twenty

(13:36):
degrees outside right right.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Well, in that aspect, you feel right at home. Enjoy
your high choose and you're gonna be talking to the
team beforehand too.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Man.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
This is exciting, Roy, This is exciting man.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
I'm excited too. Man. It's a blessing to be able
to be in position to be able to help these
guys develop spiritually and get their soul right before the
game and the mental part. The physical part is here,
but like coach Day said last night, getting your soul
in your spiritual part right before big games like this
will all that energy, all the eyes are on you,
and the expectation is at an all time high.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Man.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
I'm blessed to be in that position. So I'm always thankful. Man.
I'm thankful to be on with you and bring me
on every week.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Man.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
I don't take those moments for granted. It's always good conversation, man,
and I'm looking forward to it. Man.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Well, I appreciate it so much. Roy Hall, who's part
of our best Buckeye coverage down with the team in Texas.
I guess Arlington Dallas close enough whatever. And I just
saw too, Roy, the Buckeyes are six and a half
point favorites now, so that's edged up a little bit
more even too. So we'll all be watching tonight.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Man.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
It's gonna be snowing here in town. We got snow
moving in in the next hour or two, and so
we're gonna be dealing with snowy conditions here in the
and see in Columbus as well. So but I appreciate
you taking a couple of minutes, and of course we'll
be watching, and Man, do your thing. We're so proud
of you and I appreciate you so much joining us.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
Roy, my man, I appreciate you play. Thanks for having
me brother,
