Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is a great day to be an American. We
are going to make America great again. The one and
only forty seven Donald J. Trump is finally in office.
More on that in just.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
A little bit.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
He's part of our best Buckeye coverage. Roy Hall, Welcome
again to the Mark Blazer Show. You got any high choos?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Man?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
I hear the thing when I see you, I better
have at least one bag of high choose. And with
all your awesome listeners, I would imagine that one of
them at least drops something off at the station so
that I can have this great experience. It'll be a
great way to come back to Columbus from Atlanta and
to some high choose from some fans to celebrate national championship.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
It's going to be a good one tonight. Before we
get to that, take me through. And now I know
you're in Atlanta. Hopefully you weren't traveling yesterday. Did you
get to see any of the playoffs stuff for the NFL?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Hopefully you did.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
I had a chance to watch the majority of both
of the games. I missed a little bit of it
during our team reflection time, and I had an opportunity
to get the team fired up last night, so I
missed a little bit of it, but once I got back.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Up to my hotel room, I watched.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
I watched as much as I possibly could. Football has
been awesome the last few days, man, And so you
got Saturday and Sunday and now here we are about
to play in the National Championship team game with our
home team.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
Just what a great weekend of football.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
You got that, right, Let's go back to Saturday.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
And of course, you know, when you when you look
at the Texans, you know, being from this area of
the country, from you know, the capital city, of course,
you know, it's like, how can you not root for
the Texans at this point and to see what happened
in Kse with them. And I don't know if you're
seeing any of the social media, but people are taking
those refs to task man on that game. I don't

(01:56):
know if you watched any of that or how you
feel about I don't think I've ever had you to
talk about any officiating or whatever, but it was it's
crazy to see that just out and out what people
are saying about, you know, the way that that whole
thing played out.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
And I don't know, like I think I saw. My
wife was telling me c J.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Stroud it was even you know, putting something, and I
was like wow, I told her, I said, look, even
if it's really obvious, I don't know how smart it
is of the players to be, you know, tweeting about
that or whatever.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
But do you have any thoughts on that game?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Well, it's a couple thoughts that I have versus that
that nice little soliloquy that.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
You gave me. There, you definitely gave me.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
You basically gave me your opinion, and now I have
to eat on your opinions. Like right, So what we're
gonna do? Number one, Uh, that's the power of the
high choose. If you put five or ten high chows
in the rest pocket, it'll change their life. Whatever they
have a little snack on the sideline.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
And you know when you have high chows you throw
them in the air lifts like confetti.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Man.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
So like they're celebrating that rest locker room whatever they're.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Doing with some of those calls. But the thing with.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
The players in regards to them coming out and saying things,
it's two things that come to mind. Number one is
it means a ton to them, blaze it means a lot.
The fact that they're playing potentially to go to the
AFC Title Game and they're on the verge or potentially
can they have the guns to be able to beat
the Kansas City Chiefs two times defending champions And they're

(03:23):
pissed off. Man, they're upset, they're angry about the entire situation.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
But here's the other side of it.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
They have the money to deal with the fins. I
would imagine that some of those comments that those guys
came out, those NFL finds literally come the very next
day via FedEx overnight mail, and so there's probably gonna
be about one hundred thousand dollars worth of fines given
out because of their disdain for the referees.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
But I understand it, man, in those big.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Time games, sometimes some of those calls they don't really
mean anything during the regular season, but in the playoffs
it could cost you a Super Bowl. Having rests make
egregious calls. Seemingly egregious calls now again needed the moment.
You see what you see, blade, But overall, man, I'm
you know, it was tough watching some of those calls
play out. The way they do inconsistent is the way

(04:11):
that I would describe.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
It, right, right, I'd have to agree with you.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
I'm not And I know you might have thought I
came down on man, should they be doing that?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
But uh, one hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Look you call it what it is, if it you know,
you call spade as paid as they say. It's like,
you know, I don't know how millions of people can
be wrong, especially if some of those people are not
even Texans fans. They're just going, hey, man, come on,
what's going on with this? Why are the chiefs getting
all this special treatment? People are people are a bad

(04:41):
hat it with them already. And uh, look they got
there's no question they have the firepower and they're a
fantastic team. But and all of that, they can definitely ball.
There's no question they don't need any help.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
From the rafts.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Is the thing I think a lot of people are
just getting They're getting pissed off about it, just to
say the least. And then quickly too, you know, the commanders,
I mean, do you like what we're seeing here as
far as the I mean, we got the eagles and
the commanders and now we have the bills and the chiefs,
and man, that was an exciting finish to the Ravens
Chiefs game. And I gotta be honest, as a Steeler fan,

(05:15):
I'm happy that the Ravens aren't going I really am.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Man Yeah, And as a Browns fan, I'm really happy
the Ravens.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Aren't going again.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
There it is I still feel I still feel like
that's the Cleveland Browns of old, you know what I mean,
Like it's still at the Browns DNA inside that organization.
I would say there was just two great games. We
had the teams that we figured would be there. You know,
either knew the Bills or the Ravens would be inside
of that AFC Championship game. Obviously, the Commanders are the

(05:44):
surprise knocking off the Detroit Lions, and so the fact
that they were able to come in there and get
that victory, and now they find themselves with a rookie quarterback,
which I recently found out. I was talking to a
good friend of mine, Joe Kovacs, who's the passer over
five fourteen Church and he's a sports guy, and he
sent me an Instagram real talking about Jayden Daniels does

(06:06):
this VR training at six am in the morning every
single day. He wakes up so that his brain's not
all the way on, and he puts on this VR
headset and goes through the actual game plan and the
opponent's defensive game plan and their tendencies in VR and
actually does the game plan. And he does it when
he's kind of discombobulated a little bit at six am,

(06:28):
and he says, that's really what's been able to help
him perform over perform under pressure.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Of the high clip.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
So then I just figured, like, why the heck didn't
you send me this same information, Blaze, because that clearly
is why you get on the radio and.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Do what you do. When you're the best of the best.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
You're you're waking up at six am putting on mister
spot glasses.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
What are we doing?

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Right? You tell me about this?

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Man, I had no idea that he did that. Jayden
did that, But man, that makes a lot of sense
to see this. You got a guy that he's looking
like a veteran already. This is what we're watching is
the level. The talent level just continues to elevate every
every single year, man, every single year. So I hope
we see some crazy elevated talent tonight. It's at seven

(07:12):
point thirty. Of course on ESPN. It's in Atlanta. You're
there with the Buckeye. Now, will you speak to them
right before the game.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
No, I won't, so I don't get that luxury that's
reserved for Coach A. But I speak to them last night,
which is an honor and privilege from that standpoint, to
get him fired up the night before the game. And
you know, it's nothing but meetings today, stay off your
feet and then get going.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
But these guys are fired up.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
When I was talking to Coach A last night, it
was just really reflecting on the journey. And you know,
sometimes when you pray for things, you know it's something specific,
but you never know how the journey is going to
go to get there.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
And you know, God just has a way of blessing
all of us to.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Eventually get what we want and get what He wants
for our lives. And just to watch the journey of
some of these individual players and Coach A and the
families in Ohio State and the ups and downs of
a sixteen game season. Now for us to finally get
here and be able to realize that dream that maybe
he had even two years ago, a few years ago.
Last time we were playing in the Mercedes Benz Stadium.

(08:18):
Was that New Year's Eve when that field goal went
to the left and we could have been playing in
the National title game, and so he was just thankful.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
Man.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
I'm excited for these guys. They're locked in. I mean,
you talk about the national title game and the first
twelve team playoffs and the Ohio State University is playing
freaking Notre Dame in the game. Couldn't strip You couldn't
script a better situation than this one. So this storyline
of both sides and everybody's excited.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Man, we're ready to go.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
It's only like twenty degrees in Atlanta, so it still
feels like we're in preaking Columbus.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
I don't know what's going on with.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
This weather man, but I'll take it as long as
we keep winning.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
When you see on both sides of this ball tonight,
I don't think the nation saw this happening as the
national championship. They just especially after that terrible performance in
the Horseshoe versus that team up north. For the Buckeyes,
you do like for them to do an about face
like they've done and to end up here in this

(09:19):
game tonight. For the Buckeyes. Tell me what because when
that happened, when that game ended, I was like, it
is over. I know we're in the playoffs, but I
was like, it is over.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
We're gonna get our butt kicked.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
But man, it's unbelievable what they have done with Coach
Day and that crew and every player that has committed
to this to turn it around and to land in
this game tonight is absolutely stunning.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
When you walk into the Woody Hayes facility in the
meeting rooms and you look on the wall, one of
the signs says tough love. But there's another sign. There's
another sign just adjacent to it that says, our culture
is fight. Our culturest fight, which means that sometimes you're
gonna get hit, sometimes you're gonna get knocked down. But

(10:06):
we understand in life and obviously through and through that
sometimes the greatest victories and the greatest wins and the
greatest moments of our lives have come after we've been
knocked down and gone through our greatest struggles. And so
just the tendency and the consistency and the training of
having resilience inside their hearts and inside their minds, their

(10:27):
ability to drown out the noise and unify together for
a common cause and let's go win a national title.
The pressures off of us. We don't have anything to
lose at this point that we haven't lost already.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
And those guys bonded together.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Man, it's nothing like watching their story.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
That's why I love this football team. Specifically. It wasn't
like we ran on the table.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
It wasn't like we were out in front the entire time.
But literally, when a city turned on these guys, not everybody,
I know you did not I didn't. But when a
city turned against the entire football team, everybody called for
coach's job. Everybody said we need to get Chip Kelly
out of here. Everybody said Jim Knowles didn't know what
he's doing, Everybody talking about everybody. They decided to talk

(11:10):
amongst themselves and lock in from a faith standpoint, a
football standpoint, and these guys have been playing lights out.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
Man. You couldn't ask for a better situation.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Is it weird?

Speaker 1 (11:19):
I know it's been a couple of years since Marcus
has been there as coach, but is it weird to
hear coach Freeman, you know, knowing that you played with
him and all of that at issue, Like, is it.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Weird to hear that?

Speaker 1 (11:29):
And I know he's gonna have those guys ready to
go tonight.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
It's actually not really weird. That's a good question. But
I've seen so many of my teammates do so many
great things, you know, even you know, super Bowl MVP
s Antonio Holmes, you know that's you know, we came
in the same class together. I mean, guys have done
some amazing things. Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith, you know,
doing some amazing things. And so coach Freeman, it's just

(11:56):
great to see him do it. He's obviously been built
to be a coach and you've seen the success you've
been able to have.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
But here's the deal.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
They were calling for his head after that NIU lost,
when they lost in Northern Illinois. Trusted believed they wanted
to get coach Freeman out of there. They wanted to
get Marcus out of there, and then he turned it
around thirteen game winning streak. So it's the same DNA,
it's the same blood line, you believe, scarlet and gray
through and through. Even if you throw in that terrible
Irish gold, it's awful.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
I don't even know if it's gold.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
It looked like a combination of seaweed and some type
of some type of old penny like I can't really
figure out. It's not really gold. When I've seen golden person,
it doesn't look like them in helmet. It's awful they've
infused some of that nasty green from that leprachaun.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
Ish thing that they use over there.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
I like to kick the leprachaun in the face, but
it's neither here nor there. But all I know is
Marcus is doing a great job.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
You know, it's pretty pretty awesome.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
I had a chance to see him, unfortunately at a
celebration of life. That Tim Kite who used to help
us and build our culture at a house state when
Urban was here, he passed away over the summer, and
I saw Marcus and sat next to him during the
celebration of life, and you know, he just walked in
and paid his respects, came to Columbus, and got up
out of here. So I know he's a great man.
He's a great individual, and he deserves all the success

(13:12):
that's coming towards him, just not for tonight.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Eight and a half point favorites. The buck guys are tonight.
How do you think this one stacks up? And he's
part of our best buck eye coverage? Roy Hall is
who I'm talking to.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
Roy.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
How do you think this stacks up tonight?

Speaker 4 (13:27):
One of two ways. One of two ways.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Either we get out quick and they can't catch up,
which is what I hope to happen. If the Buck
guys score quick like lightning, get up fourteen to nothing,
Notre Dame doesn't have the offensive firepower to get back
into the game. However, if they keep it close in
the first half just through defense keeping us in front.

Speaker 4 (13:47):
If it plays out like that, I could see.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
That eight and a half point coming into play. But
I also see us getting up by a touchdown and
getting a late touchdown to cover. So I really think
the Buck guys will end up winning by a couple
of touchdowns minimum and kind of run away with it
at the end.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Man, this is gonna be a good one.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
This is this is it for all the marbles ten
years since we've been in this position, and the Buck
guys tonight, it's for all the marbles versus the fighting
irish of Notre Dame and Roy Hall part of our
best Buck Eye coverage. It's been an extra long year
for you guys, you know, covering the Buck guys in
an extra long year for the guys, which you kind
of point out every time we speak as far as

(14:26):
the season goes. But the fact that it has been
extra long is kind of a good thing because clearly
they have played all these extra games getting to this
point tonight. So this will be this will be exciting
to watch. Wall be watching, of course. And I can't
thank you enough man for hanging with me this season
and jumping on and talking about this is very special.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Roy that that you do that, and I can't thank
you enough. And man, we'll be watching tonight. This is
gonna be fun.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
Bl I appreciate you man.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
It's been an honor and privilege to hang out with
you on your show.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
Man.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
It's like being in a man cave that everybody can
listen to, and it can be dangerous sometimes but we
figure a way.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
To get it through and keep it, keep it, keep it.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
Uh nice for the for the people listening. But it's
it's awesome to hang out with your brother anytime.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Very cool.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
All right, Go Bucks and Roy Hall, thank you very much.
Appreciate you man.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
All right, brother, Go Bucks.
