Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you're ever at the Masters Augusta National Golf Club.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Bear Lord in Heaven help this boy.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Please please do not do it in Ray's Creek. It
doubles as a urinal. I had no idea. I had
no idea.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
That is that is that is that is just tactless.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
It is.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
It is crass, and I can't believe. I'm not even
a fan of golf. I don't look at that course
and go, oh, that's happened, right. But at event this prestigious,
dear lord, dude, find a blue building, for goodness sake,
there's got to be porta potties down there somewhere.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
He's uh US Amateur champ and it's jose Balluster And
I'm probably saying his name wrong, but this is what
he This was after his round yesterday when he was
busted peeing in Ray's Creek. This is what he was.
This was the talking to the media afterwards. Listen to
this what happened there?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Well, I completely forgot that we have those Russians from
the left of the tea bugs. It's oh, yes, correct,
And then I'm like, I really into a pee. I
didn't really know where to go. And since Jady had
an issue around the game. I'm like, okay, I'm just
gonna sneak here in the river. Probably the people would
not see me that much, and then they caught for me.
(01:16):
Probably one of the they clapped for him clubs that
I really got today, like real oued. So that was
that was kind of funny.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Funny you concerned that there might be any blowback from
that at all? Or I mean obviously they did.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
See you, right, Yeah, they saw me.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
This song?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Is that funny?
Speaker 4 (01:33):
I mean it was not embarrassing at all for me.
So if I had to do it again, I would
do it again.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
If I had to do it again, I would do
it again, is what he said. Oh my goodness, let's
bring in mister golf, Ray, Hustake and Ray. Sorry to
start on something controversial, but look, I you know, and
I was thinking about this. I said, first of all,
welcome to the show, thank you for joining us, man,
happy master, second round to you.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Yes, and he won't be back.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Yeah, that's what I was. That's but I was thinking,
do you have that on a good authority?
Speaker 5 (02:03):
No? But I mean he got a year because he
was a US amateur champlass to see if maybe his
invitation next year gets lost in the mail, will do?
But I don't.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Immediately I said to myself, I go, look, I understand that,
you know, when nature calls or what have you just
short of having some sort of an affliction. And if
you do, at that point the cats out of the bag,
you might as well tell people. Look and maybe there
might be some sort of exemption there if you suffer
(02:34):
from something along the lines where it was that, or
you pee your pants. I don't know. All I know
is look, am I guilty?
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (02:42):
I have done that on a golf course. It is
not at the Masters. It is not while I'm playing.
It is not on a customiza different. No, it was
not at putt. But will you stop it? There were
there might have been a group behind us, There might
have been a group in front of us, but I
was hidden from them. I was in the woods, and
it was on a muni course. And by the way,
(03:02):
there are signs user I made sure there were no
houses and so on. That has happened a couple of times,
so I'm not above that. But man, this is like
you're not reading the room here. And then the fact
he's like I would do it again. I was scratching
my head. I don't know where you're at on this ray?
Speaker 5 (03:17):
Well, was he like five years old? Oh, I gotta go,
I gotta go. I mean, you playing ahead sometimes for things,
but I mean, this is just ridiculous. Let's talk about
Justin Rose.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah, so I was going to get to that. I
just that was this thing, this whole p and and
rays Creek thing. I go, well, this is a side
thing that everybody can relate to. So he said, I
gotta start with that. I gotta start with that. Listen,
what happened with Rory yesterday. Let's start with And I
did go on the air after you and I spoke
on Wednesday, and I did say you predicted Rory to
(03:51):
win this and so on, and boy, yesterday he's going
along and then he gets to fifteen and wham, double bogie,
and then he gets to seventy Wham double bogey. The
Forum scores, he raced in two holes, and I thought,
oh my gosh, oh my gosh, what is this guy?
Speaker 2 (04:05):
And then he comes out today and he's playing like
his hair's on fire.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
You still may I mean, this is easily could be
his his year, man, So you could be right on course,
or right on track here, mister golf with Rory, but Brian, Brian, Bryce,
and d Chambeau is.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Doing his thing, Scott. He's at six under right now.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
And then Justin Rose comes out and just shoots a
seventy one today, kind of a pedestrian seventy one one under.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
And so now the lead. Justin still has that lead
at eight under. But your thoughts about what we've seen.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
Today so far, Well, let's start with Rory, because this
is going to be a monster year for him, I believe.
I mean, I think it's that everything sets up so
well for him. You know, there's no pressure fighting to
live versus the PGA tour stuff that he did for
a while, and he and Erica have patched up the marriage.
He's talked publicly about how well they're doing. He knows
(04:58):
that this is the last leg of the Grand Slam.
He has never won the Masters, he's won the other
three majors, and he would love to get this out
of the resume. But this year I think he's playing
a lot more free. Yesterday, Yeah, he was four understanding
in the top of the hill on fifteen with a
shot to go at that green in two and probably
make Birdie get the five under, but then the water
(05:20):
got him and he ends up like you said, double there,
double seventeen. He races the whole thing, and then today
he's really put it back together with unbelievable Birdi's at
ten and eleven. Those are holes you don't Birdie here.
And then he eagled thirteen and got his stock part.
You know, Birdie at the part five fifteenth, So he
still got one more hole to play, and he's a
couple of shots off the lead right now, but he's
(05:40):
playing loose. You mentioned justin Rose. I think, let me
get back to roy real quick, because I do think
this whole year. We go to Quail Creek next for
the PGA. He's won four times on that golf court.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Crazy.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
Then Oakmont. I think Scotty Scheffler wins at Oakmont. Then
we go to the to Royal Port, Rushing Northern Ireland.
Thanks very much. I think he's gonna win two majors
after this one. I'd give him three majors this year.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
That is not out of the realm of possibility, especially
based on the information that you're laying out prior to
said tournaments.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Majors, if you will so by one percent.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
When I saw that yesterday, I was unaware that he
had won four times like at the same court. And
I said, oh, oh my gosh, yeah, I mean you
got you can't really how do you go against that?
He's very comfortable there. And then, like you said, you
go to port Russian and that's his stomping ground, so
you could be onto something. And I don't know. I mean,
he's looking.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
I did not. I did not see what we.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Are seeing today from him, the eagle and all the birdies.
I didn't see that from him yesterday. Given how he
finished yesterday's round, I thought he was gonna come out
today and maybe shoot one under or even or one over,
just given that.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
But boy, was I wrong. And looks like you're very
right right now. Well, we'll see.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
You got another hole to play. He got to get
the eighteenth in and you know, try to get in
and if he gets in, you know, with that back
nine thirty one, if he bars eighteen, that would be
something that would be pretty impressive, and it would be
something that would give him, you know, a lot of
confidence going into the weekend. Let's talk about the leader
justin Rose. You know, there's a there's a very little
chance he'll win. Here's why. Five times previously at the
(07:23):
Masters he's held the first round lead. Only five men
have ever gone wired to wire at Augusta. Jack Nicholas, On,
Old Palmer, George Speeds, Ray Floyd, and a guy named Wood,
Craig Wood that is in nineteen forty one. But it
doesn't look like statistically that you know Justin's going to
hang on now. I'll tell you that watching him put today,
(07:44):
he has had perfect speed on the greens. And if
he continues to put that way Saturday and Sunday, he
certainly will be in contention. But it's tough to go
wire to wire out Augusta. That is just something that
is not done normally.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
You know what one person I'm really you expect it
was Scott. It seems like right now he's in the
conversation just about every week he tease it up right now.
He's just he's got the hot clubs. I mean, it's
just how that's how it goes. But with Bryson, you know,
I saw the thing. He was out on the range
working until after eight o'clock last night, and you know,
(08:16):
this is a guy who's willing to he's just gonna
he's gonna do whatever it takes.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Will it be enough? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
When I say whatever it takes, it just feels like
he is not a hot dogger. He's a guy who's
really trying to and as unorthodox as a lot of
the stuff that he does, somehow, some way it's translating to,
you know, a good career. And here he is right now,
one back, he's at seven under right now for the Masters.
And again does he hold on to that, He's got
(08:46):
the work ethic for this and so on, and you
got to set aside the live stuff and all of
that just him as a golfer. I mean, clearly he's
heads and tails above the rest of the live golfers
who are coming out and almost kind of they're kind.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Of doing what you were saying.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
It's like, look, there's you know, John Rahm and Dustin Johnson.
You got you got guys who they just don't compete
at a high enough level on that particular you know
tour if you will to live tour. And as a result,
you can see it when they come out to something
like this, and Bryson somehow has dodged that kind of
a thing so far.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Yeah, I mean, Rom's a couple over Park kept because
like five over, I mean they're all Dustin Johnson. They're
playing terrible, but Bryson is playing well. And he's the
guy who is like a mad scientist, always tinkering with
the clubs in the swing and all that. The thing
about Deschambeau at Augusta, he tries to alligate a wrestle
every golf course he's playing. He's just gonna beat the
(09:40):
life out of the thing. And you don't do that
at Augusta. When you play super aggressive here, it gets
you and it will bite you. And you can put
together like Rory did yesterday, He's going along smooth and
then double Bogi's two holes in three holes. I mean,
it's just it can jump up and bite you. And
that's what my fear is for Ice and because like
(10:01):
I said, you know, he's he goes down the track,
you know, three hundred miles an hour and there's no breaks,
there's no guardrails, and the whole thing could just implode.
Now on the other side of the coin, if he
puts it well enough, and if he keeps himself out
of big trouble, who knows maybe he runs up and
does something really exciting. Scotty Scheffler obviously, you know at
(10:23):
five hundred part just three shots back, just made his
first bogie of the week. This guy is so steady
and that's why you know he'll be there Sunday afternoon.
He gets his birdies on the par fives, although he
birdied six today was the tough little part three. You know,
Scotty's going to be in the in the hunt. Corey Connors,
the young Canadian, is a great player. Lowry right there too, Yeah,
(10:44):
former Open champion. So you know in that in that
top ten there, I see Victor Hoblins in there. We
got you know, we got between him and Rosen Deshampo.
There's three former Memorial champions, you know, in contention at
the Masters. It's fun to watch my dude justin days.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I mean he's four on right now.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
I mean this is you know, lud Veg is there,
and I mean you start looking at you know, some
Harrison English, I'm like, where did the or Harris English,
I should say, where did the where did that? I'm like, whoa,
you know, I mean, so again, it's Friday and so on.
I think the real you start to get the cream
rising to the top. Maybe tomorrow on moving day or
what have you. But this is a great leader board.
(11:22):
I love seeing this right now and then that I
was just watching a little bit ago mister golf on
they had him on the Golf Channel, Matthew McCarty and
his whole story.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
And when you look.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
At his round today, I don't know how much you've
looked at him or even know about him, but he
had one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight he
had He started with a double and then a buggy
on one and two, and then he had eight birdies
in between. He started on six and he had eight
birdies all the way up to seventeen.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Then he ended up buggy in eighteen.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
But he's a really likable kid, and to watch him
to them and see like his confidence and so on.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
But he's right there at five unders.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
So I don't know if somebody like that it's their
first time there and all of that, if they they
can pull something like that off, I mean, it's it's
such an amazing place. You get to Amen Corner on
Sunday and somebody who's never been there before. Is that
detriment or is that a good thing and so on
with somebody like that. But this is good the way
(12:24):
it's shaping up. I like what we're seeing here well.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
And we have to talk about poor Nick Dunlap, who's
in the last place. He's shot ninety yesterday. Now, he
was a Rookie of the Year last year on the
PGA Tour. He's got some unbelievable talent. But let me
let me tell you the difference between the tour guys
and the rest of us. He's shot ninety yesterday. He's
three under on his round today through eight hole. I mean,
(12:48):
we would be suicidal right after if you're a tour
player shooting ninety and he's come out and played really
well starting off today, and you know, I mean, obviously
he's not going to make the cut, but he's not
just nailing it in. He's grinding, he's playing hard. And
these young guys who turned things around play really well.
One round you make you have a stretch of holes
(13:09):
where you make four or five. You know, there's a
couple of guys in here who have made four or
five birdies in a row.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Well.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
Hobbling for thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen burding those
holes on a row. It gets you some confidence, and
with confidence at this level of the game, it can
make a huge difference. And guys who looked like yesterday,
we were going, oh, they're not going to make the cut.
They're not going to make the cut. Now he's four
or five under on the round today, and they're going
to be playing on the weekend. And that's the stuff
that makes I think professional golf so much fun to watch.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Real quick, before we cut, you loose back to Rory,
if I would have told you yesterday somehow I knew
that he was going to have two double bogies ahead
of the and you didn't. And I said, which two
holes will he double bogie? I guarantee you would not
have said fifteen.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Hostally not standing at the top of the hill going
forward too.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
No, well, even so, I mean those guys get hit
and iron off the tee and then they're so precise
they could you know, they could bunt one down there
to one oh five or one ten or whatever number
they are real comfortable with. And you know they were
saying how he bounced over and then he came his
his shot back into the water, was just like, oh,
you had a lapse in judgment there, You just you
(14:15):
just were you lost your focus for one second, and
you saw how fast it jumped up to bite him.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
So very very interesting.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah, man, I'll be I'll be watching this and I'm
gonna give you total props. Man if Rory wins this,
and that would be really cool, mister Golf. If he did,
I'd be very happy for you and your prediction, and
of course what we watched the rest of the year
from him too. That'll be a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
I think it's gonna be a big year and golf
needs some good news and somebody to chase. You know,
Tiger's done, so who's it going to be, Scotty. Scotty's
had a great couple of years, and now Rory gonna
jump up and is he gonna do something exciting? We'll
find out, Yeah, for.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Sure, mister Golf.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Ray Hustik, thank you very much for jumping on and
happy rest of the Masters week, and of course we're
just getting underway golf season and so on, so I'll
be talking to you much more.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (14:59):
Look forward to Thanks Mark.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Thanks, We'll see you
