Week this all stems from twenty, twenty this original plan
saying that the acquisition that Then facebook made Of instagram
in twenty twelve And WhatsApp in twenty fourteen amounted to
a violation OF us anti trust. Law this started towards

the end of the First trump. Administration it was then
transferred over to THE ftc under The biden, administration and
now after a lot of filing and, refiling it is
finally going to. Trial Mark zuckerberg has been testifying for
the last two. Days we also expect other major figures
From Silicon valley to make appearances at this. Trial and
at the, core it really comes down to those two.

Acquisitions THE ftc says that making those acquisitions were not
shrewd business, decisions but rather an effort to squash, competition
and that violates the eighteen Ninety Sherman Anti Trust, act
and that states that it's illegal to maintain a monopoly
by using anti competitive, practices for, example buying up worthy
competitors just to take them off the playing.

And reddit and others are all expected to play a role,
here And meta throughout all of this is arguing that
the sort of definition of the, market right they're supposed
dominance in the social media, space, well that market's actually
really big and therefore they don't face a lot of.
Competition they say that they will present evidence at trial
showing what every seventeen year old in the world, knows

which is That facebook And instagram And WhatsApp compete regularly
with companies like TikTok and x And LinkedIn and. Others
THE ftc is defining this market much more narrowly so
they can say, that, yeah they are dominant in this.
Space that means that they say there's basically only three players.
Here There's, meta which they say controlled about eighty percent

of users in this. Market There's, snapchat and then There's,
mewe which is a privacy based social network, that according
to their, website claims about twenty million users. Worldwide THE
fdc says that they dominate that particular market and that's.

to split these.

Up then do they sell? THEM i, mean what would? Happen?

remedy in this case If boseburg sides with the government's case,

Companies to Have meta divest from these two huge parts
of their. Business, obviously that would turn over this company
in a huge. Way they've Seen instagram And WhatsApp grow
much faster than the Main facebook. App they rake in

Head right, now if you're at the head of a
startup in the tech, world you're not really trying to
compete With meta Or google Or facebook Or tesla Or,
apple because those guys are really. Big they have billions
of dollars to throw around in teams of lawyers aimed
at making you not a player on that particular. Field
you want to make a small company that gets bought

up by those, guys, right hopefully to the tune of
several billion. Dollars but if the government starts breaking up
big tech, companies, well that calculus is going to. Change
will it change for the better for the? CONSUMER i
think that remains to be. Seen but legal experts That
i've talked to over the course of this process say
it's a long road before we get to that.

whether there is any monopoly happening in the social media,
space and legal experts say that the government has a

different social media landscape at that. Time in, addition they
also have to sort of prove the hypothetical they have
