Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sixty three degrees in downtown Denver. Good afternoon, Colorado. It
is New Year's Eve, Wednesday, December thirty first, twenty twenty five.
I'm Stephan Tubbs in for the man Dan Kaplis along
with producer engineer Jesse Thomas. Hell has frozen over it. Yes,

(00:22):
this is just crazy to be.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
In this building. So good Tubbs, it's good to see you.
It's great to see you. Thomas and Tubs or tubs
to Thomas. We will call it Thomas and Tubbs. We'll
go with the alphabetized. That's right, that's right. We're gonna
put a bow on this pig Stefan.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
You know, twenty twenty five can f all the way
off for many many reasons.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
It was a rough one for sure.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Yeah. I'll get into that in just a little bit,
you know, little personal information. We're also on this last
day of twenty twenty five, we are going to most
certainly be a proactive program for men. And I'm going
to tell you why you're an idiot if you have

(01:05):
not of you're a certain of a certain age, if
you have not had a PSA test, and I guarantee you, Jesse,
there's someone out there and I'm not shaming and guilty.
But there's a man maybe a little younger than you
and me, maybe a little older than me. They're like, what,

(01:26):
what's psah? I got a prostate? What?

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Anyway? I survived cancer this year and that's why this year?
Can I guess?

Speaker 1 (01:35):
On the positive note, I am here with you on
the last day of the year. A lot to talk about,
though there's no way in two hours on the Dan
Kaplis Show that I'm going to get to the items
on my list, but the housekeeping items that I definitely
want to make sure you know is how to get
in touch with us three zero three seven one three
eighty two fifty five. That's three zero three seven one

(01:58):
three eighty two fifty five. You can text the Is
it the Dan Caplis Law text line? I mean it's
his show.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yeah, I think it's just Dan to that number. But yeah,
what's called the Dan Caplis Law. Sure, because on the
other stage.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
There's everything else. You might as well get this to him.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Is he like the official law partner of the Abs
and Nuggets?

Speaker 2 (02:18):
He is and the Rockies? I believe, so, yeah, he's.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
You get a discount for that last He's everywhere. I'm
sure that's just I'm not here to bash sorts. I know, Padres,
I know, I know, we'll get into that later.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Usually, usually I see Jesse at least once a year
when my Padres coming to corus Field. No matter how
the Rockies are playing, the Rockies will take two of three.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Or three of four from my hometown.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
CEO Pepco to you made quite a few trips on
that's true, that is that is true.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
So again we're gonna call it the Dan Caplis Law.
Text line text dan da n to five seven seven
three nine five seven seven three nine thank you. So
you know where I want to start A state that
I've only been to once, and it was when I
was an employee of this very radio station's owner's iHeart

(03:08):
only been to Minnesota once for the was it the
Republican National Convention?

Speaker 2 (03:13):
And when was that? Twenty twelve?

Speaker 1 (03:18):
But we're going to start in Minnesota because I heard
the little kind of news promo right before we opened
the Dan Kapla show says this kid, this kid, surely
Nick Shirley has done more in twenty four hours or whatever.
So I hope that even though you know, first of
all I hope you have had a great holiday season,

(03:39):
But have you paid attention to what's been going on
out of Minnesota? Some people would say this has been
going on clearly for years. You've got one of the
big to me, by the way, I'm a conservative. I
don't hold it against you if you're not. If you
hate me just because I said the C word, we
probably wouldn't enjoy having a beer together there. But I

(04:02):
were my political beliefs on my sleeve. I think any
talk show host can. I had my own show over
at k and US for about six years. I left
radio November third, twenty twenty three, and this is my
first time. Dan has asked me for a couple of
years here and there to come and fill in for him,
and I've always wanted to. But either I didn't have

(04:23):
enough notice, no offense to Dan, or I just couldn't
because of my life and where I work now. But
I love radio. It's in my DNA. So to the
Minnesota story, the governor there is a complete idiot. I
don't know how you could be a staunch Democrat and

(04:47):
not say this guy's a clown, mister Walls, but this
Nick Shirley kid he's a kid because he's much younger
than me.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
He could be.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
I mean he's younger than my oldest son, one year
older than my youngest he's twenty three years old. And
he does the cell phone iPhone video of going to
these these places. The one did you see the sign?
It's been everywhere online, the such and such luring center.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
L E A r I NG. It's supposed to be
a learning.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Center, but the sign even said luring leering center.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
They have since fixed it.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
But but in a new sign yesterday, I did I
saw ten masks Somali men come out to change one letter.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
It's quite something, yes.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
But by the way, that uh DN or the RNC
was in two thousand and eight, many two thousand, that's
the Sarah Palin nomination.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
That's we were there.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
We were there for that. I mean, time flies, Jesse,
time flies. Uh But but this, this kid has done something.
And you've you've heard a lot even in now slowly
select mainstream media about how wow, God, this kid really
is good. Mainstream media should be mortified that it has

(06:07):
taken a kid that describes himself as an influencer or
you know, independent YouTube journalist. If you have not seen
Nick Shirley's forty two minute video. It's it's on x
slash Twitter, it's on YouTube. He posted it the day
after Christmas. He's also there with this older dude named David.

(06:30):
They go around. I don't know if it's just the
greater Minneapolis Saint Paul area, but they go around. They
visit these daycare centers that are completely empty and without children.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
They are all I don't want to bet my life,
but I.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Would come close. They're all operated by Somali employees. They
supposedly David and this twenty three year old YouTuber exposed
more than one hundred and ten million dollars in fraud.
And now, like I said, the mainstream media is slowly

(07:10):
but surely kind of picking up on the story. There
are still outlets that have not, I e. The big ones.
And here's the one thing. Even though it's New Year's Eve,
and I know you're not here to probably get into
a huge debate about race, but I'll throw it out there.

(07:32):
I think one of the reasons why, maybe maybe not
necessarily local affiliates in Minneapolis St. Paul, the television stations
or radio stations doesn't matter. I think one of the
reasons why is Oh god, it's almost a new year
of twenty twenty six. We still live in a society where,
oh god, this fraud may be going on. But I'm like,

(07:57):
I'm a white reporter from a primarily white newsroom and
we're going to go and we're going to allege fraud
against this minority group. Oh God, you'll hand omar. I
don't know if I can handle the wrath. Well, I
flip it. It's almost twenty twenty six. If we cannot

(08:19):
as a society handle talk of corruption and looking at
corruption without having to worry about race, we're in some
deep doodo. And I guarantee you that's why a lot

(08:40):
of this has just now surfaced. These daycare centers had
no children. The classrooms or daycare centers had like blacked
out windows or no windows at all. They wouldn't talk
to this Nick Shirley or this older guy David who

(09:03):
both individuals, by the way, I have had death threats.
So bigger, bigger picture. Not that we have time on
a two hour program, and I'm not with you for
god knows, I may never come back, but you know
when the next time. So I can't really dive into things,
and like, you know, if we don't get to all
of it, I'll get.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
It with you tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
But let's just say, have you thought of with this
type of corruption where the money is just continually pumping
in and pumping in and pumping in. And you know,
now the Trump White House and what HHS has stopped payments,
but after how many payments through the Biden administration through

(09:45):
the Trump administration? Now how much money are we talking?
So then bigger picture, how much fraud has been in
this country? I mean in its history, but specifically since COVID.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Tongue. And the problem with the Minnesota thing in particular
is most of that money has long gone.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
It's back in small already long. They're like, yeah, I'm
not driving the g wagon.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
I'm I'm not.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
I live in this apartment building. Well it's it went somewhere,
and it did not go to the children. No, because
there are no children. We got to take our first break.
Three zero three seven one three eighty two fifty five
three zero three seven to one, three eighty two to
fifty five. Text Dan to five seven seven three nine.
It's Stephan subbs In for Dan Capitalist. I'm glad you're

(10:33):
with us.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
And I told h the.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Program director Dave Tepper, who I'm just getting to know,
but I've heard nothing but great things about I even
told him so much today, Jesse. I'm like, I'm not
in radio anymore, but you know, your reputation is really
really good out there, and that's not necessarily always the
case for program directors. No, absolutely no. And he's like, well,
thank you for that, but I appreciate the time. Welcome

(10:57):
to those of you that listen used to listen to
me on on seven ten K and us. I will
try not to screw up the call letters with Jesse
here this afternoon. We're on until six o'clock to night.
And by the way, I just turned midnight not too
many minutes ago in Patter, So Happy New Year, Happy
New Year's Eve, Stephan Tubbs, Jesse Thomas with you on
six thirty Khow Stephan Tubbs in for Dan Kaplis today.

(11:19):
It is great to be on this radio station. I
did post on my social media. Hell has pro sen
over Jesse. I took a picture of selfie outside of
the circle drive here at the iHeart Facility.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
I love it. You know, you go back a few years.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
I would have told you you were crazy if I
would ever been on this air again.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
I started getting alerts from that Facebook page you used
to have yesterday because I'm still logged in on him
for something.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
I'm like, what is going on? And then I was like, oh, yeah,
he's gonna be here tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, Danny, Now listen. I'm really happy that I'm with you, Jesse.
I'm really happy that you friends are listening.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
I hope. I guess.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
We just had a PSA on how to text, you know,
during an emergency. So I'm going to give you a
pa say out of my mouth and that is the following.
Do not under any circumstances. I know I sound like
your mother or father. Do not drink and drive tonight.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Just don't.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
First and foremost, you're an idiot.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
If you do.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
No, you can't make It's only three blocks. So just don't.
Just don't call uber, call my son. Minimum of ten
grand minimum minimum you go, it's gonna follow you. And
then not to mention, of course you could kill or
maime injure somebody totally completely innocent.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Just don't.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
This brought to you by the Dan Capitalis text Line,
which is by the way text Dan to five seven, seven,
three nine, Thank you so much for the for the
texts coming in. It's I'm learning a new system here,
first time seeing this, So every single text starts with Dan, gotcha, Okay,

(12:59):
here's a nice one, Stefan looking forward to the show.
Miss you being on the radio. Thank you, so happy
for you that you beat cancer. All the best to
you in twenty twenty six from SK, Thank you SK.
Happy New Year to you. Here's somebody that is that
over at the other station, Jesse. I was known as
Stephen Tubes because nobody could ever get my name right.
It was always Stephen Tubes. This one is tefan subs. Well, well,

(13:23):
if it isn't tefan subs at Devil Radio.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
A spoonerism, is that what it's called?

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Hey? Is Lauren Bobert fighting with Donald Trump? I think
if you read some stories, you'd say she's none too
happy with the President. This all has to do with water,
the Arkansaw Valley Conduit. This is a list of talk
show topics. This is not a sexy topic. The Finish

(13:55):
the Arkansas Valley Conduit Act. It passed unanimously in the
House and the Senate. Yet Donald Trump this week, veto's
the bill sponsored by his mar Alago buddy. And I
like Lauren Bobert enough. We're not best buddies. We never
went to the theater together.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
See what I do there? You need a rim shot
right there? That's a New Year's Eve joke. I gotta
be on my toes.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
If we've been to many events together. She was on
my show many many times at the other radio station.
She is a huge fan of Donald Trump, but not
this week. Did you see some of her quotes like
this one? President Trump decided to veto a completely non
controversial bipartisan bill that passed both the House and Senate unanimously.

(14:45):
Why because nothing says America First like denying clean drinking
water to fifty thousand people in southeastern Colorado, many of
whom enthusiastically voted for him.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
In all three elections. Ooh, I like being duped.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
Here is this like we have created little I'll just
do this at the end of the year and it'll
get some good headlines and then I don't know.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Donald Trump.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Basically I read the statement, you know, and the reason
in his words that he's vetoing this, and it was
basically that section of Colorado had the money and they
could have done this, and a lot of it should
have been done locally. I'm highly summarizing here. But then
here's Bobert again. I must have missed the rally where
he as in President Trump stood in Colorado and promised

(15:31):
to personally derail critical water infrastructure projects.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
My bad.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
I thought the campaign was about lowering costs and cutting
red tape. And it concludes her statement. But hey, if
this administration wants to make its legacy blocking projects that
deliver water to rural Americans, that's on them. Whoo.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
I don't know if she's gonna have New Year's Eve
tonight at mar Alago. Probably know. I don't think so.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
The number three zero three seven one three eighty two
fifty five. We've got a break coming up here at
the top of the hour. I'm Stephan subbs in for
Dan Kaplis. New Year's Eve edition would be remiss if
didn't speaking of Colorado politics. A very good man that
I had a chance to interview several times when I
was back in my news days. Condolences to the family

(16:24):
of Senator Ben night Horse Campbell. He passed away yesterday.
He was ninety two. He was obviously a fixture of
Colorado politics over a couple of decades, if not more,
because he was also in the state legislature. He was
a member of Congress, and then he became a senator
and I was working at KOA. I remember not only
when he wins to become senator or was he appointed anyway,

(16:49):
Senator Ben night Horse Campbell. Remember he switched parties during
his senate term, switching from the Democrats to the Republicans.
And night Horse Campbell Northern Cheyenne member. He was a
really renowned jeweler, very smart businessman. They lived really southwestern Colorado.

(17:13):
He and his wife, a couple of kids, grandkids. And
that's a good run. That's a good run of ninety
two and United States Air Force veteran as well, Ben
Nighthorse Campbell ninety two served in Korea in the time
of the Korean War. And good man, very good man.

(17:36):
We'll take a break for news when we come back.
You know, I had a casadia for lunch, and I
never thought that in the tortilla that the government should
actually try to help me feel better and like literally
put vitamins in my tortilla. Have you heard this out
of California starting tomorrow corn additives because the government wants

(18:00):
to help. The Government's here to help. It's the Dan
Caplis Show. Thirty six minutes after four o'clock. Happy New
Year's Eve. Stephan Tubbs in for Dan Caplis on the
Dan Caplis Show. Thank you for all the great texts
coming in. It's a different system than I'm used to otherwise.
Usually I was just be replying and responding. I'll try

(18:20):
to get to the hang of it before six o'clock.
But suffice it to say, text coming into the Dan
Caplis Law text line, and it's really really kind of
you to say some of the nice things, Jesse. I'm
just waiting. I don't do radio much. And when I
filled in over at the other station earlier this year,

(18:41):
like it was like seven thirty in the morning or yeah,
it was really early, and somebody says, you effing suck.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Who is this guy?

Speaker 1 (18:48):
I'm like, that's the talk radio that I know. Good morning,
Good thrive off of the hatred right exactly. So I
haven't had any hatred just yet, but you know, the
night is young. We're on until six o'clock. A couple
of texts coming in we were talking about Lauren Bobert
and the Arkansas Valley water conduit deal that was unanimously

(19:10):
passed in the House and Senate. President Trump this week
veto's the bill sponsored by Lauren Bobert. This is a
great text, and it's true. The Lauren Bobert thing is
all because of Pina Teeters. That's what I used to
call Tina Peters. This one Lauren Bobert is going downhill,

(19:34):
just like Marjorie Taylor Green, Bobert supports Victor Marx for
governor of Colorado. I'm glad she no longer represents my area.
She does represent, of course, Douglas County in Elbert County now.
And so if you're listening from the Western Slope, good afternoon,
and thank you. Okay, I not that you care. I

(19:56):
really don't even care what I had for lunch today.
But then I thought, you know, what was a flower tortilla?
So that analogy just didn't work of what I had
for lunch, and then looking at the idiocy in California,
so forget I said that. But have you heard the
one about the Assembly Bill eighteen thirty in California? Probably not?
And of course here in Colorado and across the country.

(20:18):
Every January first, all kinds of new laws come in.
I mean, you know, the state legislature, they passed the bills,
they do this.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
And then it's like they sit around the wait. January first.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
January first, this is when my bill goes into law.
And that's great, it makes this country great. But some
of the stuff that is passed and the some of
the bills are really not great. They're stupid, including stuff
here in Colorado. By the way, your minimum wage is
going to go off, I think again in the city
of Denver. Here's what's interesting is it's kind of a

(20:51):
tough economy right now. Downtown Denver is still to me,
maybe it's a touch better now that they dropped the
sixteen Street mall and it's just sixteenth now, but the
fact of the matter is businesses are still struggling, and
yet the minimum wage is gonna go up anyway to California.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Fullic acid.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Now, when my children's mother was pregnant, you know the
prenatal care, you hear about full of acid. As men
were idiots about most things health unless you're a doctor,
and then you know you're not. But fullic acid is
important But California's main new corn additive requirement effective tomorrow

(21:42):
is fullic acid mandated by that Assembly bill. But what
does it mean, Well, it means more cost for smaller
production houses that make say, tortillas and chips the store
bought corn masa products. They're adding folic acid to prevent
birth defects. And this is apparently because of Latina women

(22:09):
who are less likely to get enough full eate. The
reason I'm bringing this up is do I know, I
know there are people smarter than us. And here's what
should be in your you know you want.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Fluoride in your toothpaste? Did it in your water? That's
up for debate. They say that.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
They're trying to help, but at what cost? And the
reason why in California this tortilla added, the folic acid
added to tortillas, which is going to skyrocket the cost
of tortillas and corn chips and all of that. Latino women. Apparently,

(22:50):
according to the lawmakers who passed this, they have lower
rates of folic acid intake before pregnancy. So what better
thing to have happen than the government and they pass
this bill signed by the governor, and now we're protecting
you we're protecting you. Proven prevention folic acid significantly will

(23:13):
reduce birth defects, and we need to help you. I
just I don't like that kind of government. I just
don't if you do, Okay, I don't think right now
you're living in California. Maybe you're on vacation here in Colorado.
But if you think that, it's just call California. No,
it's this kind of you know, advocacy bills that are

(23:36):
passed in especially one party type government systems like we
have here in Colorado.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
That happens all the time.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
What else, Jesse I got on my list? How about
all the artists? And again, you don't have to be
a conservative, a Republican. My entire family is just die
hard Democrats.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
And that's fine. We still can get along.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
I'm not but when it comes to canceling like a
New Year's Eve show, because Donald Trump's name is now
outside of the Kennedy Center, first of all, I'm not
quite sure why does his name need to be on
there's the Kennedy Center.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
It doesn't and he just likes trolling people, of course it.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
Is, But then who wins in the end, Like you know,
you probably saw some.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Of the there's.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
The sign going up Donald Trump and John F. Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts. But who in the end
is really paying To your point, Jesse, there's a little
bit of trolling going on. People flip out because they
have trumped arrangement syndrome. And yet even for tonight, artists
have canceled. They were supposed to do their New Year's

(24:53):
Eve shows and they cancel. Well, who gets hurt in
the end the people that have the tickets right to
the show. It's not keeping Donald up at night. I
can promise you that. No, I don't even think the
Lauren Bobert thing is keeping Donald Trump up at night
is I'm fine, go try to get your two thirds
in the House and Senate and you can override my

(25:15):
veto go ahead.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
I don't know that whole uh fullic acid thing. It
seems kind of racist to me, by the way, like
they assuming they only eat tortillas, like I know a
lot of Mexican women that have a pretty wide variety
of diet terry needs, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
It just seems ridiculous to me. Why why you know
it's racist? It is?

Speaker 1 (25:38):
I Assembly Bill eighteen thirty in California is racist. We're
going on record the final day of the year of
twenty twenty five. But don't worry, Jesse. Tonight after midnight,
it's mandatory. They've got to add this folic acid because
we need it. You're right.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
I never even thought of it really that way. It's crazy.
I mean, listen, we know that you're poor and you
need to only eat the tortilla.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Yeah, So here you go. We're doing this for you.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
It's savage, swamy, glad you're here. See all kinds of
different opinions. The number three zero three seven one three.
I don't know if we're going to get a phone call.
Just hang on. Probably No, that's fine. I've got a
list of things. It's great. I love talking with you.
Coming up after the top of the hour, we've got

(26:25):
one of my longtime friends in Colorado politics, but she's
no longer in politics because she was voted out. Former
Aurora City councilwoman Daniel Jurinsky will join us because well,
I want to just hear from her. If you would
have told me two years ago that Dirinsky and a
lot of the conservatives in Aurora would not be re elected,

(26:47):
I would have said, you know what, I think you're incorrect.
I think you might be crazy. They were, They were
and it wasn't even close. They were blown out of
the water. So I want to talk with daniel Jernsky that.
But more importantly, even to her personally, is this Robin Nicetta.
And we do not have enough time to go through

(27:08):
the every detail of who Robin Nicetta was, the former
lover of the former Aurora police chief. When Durinsky was
on with me a few years ago on the air live,
she calls the then police chief, Vanessa Wilson trash on
my program, and then you want to talk about the

(27:30):
dominoes falling anyway, there's a huge development this week with
where Robin Nicetta is now going to be putting her
head down on the pillow. Could she be out on
parole already? We'll talk about that and more just after
the top of the hour in the newscast with former
Aurora City councilwoman Danielle Jirinsky.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
Got to take a break.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
When we come back, I want to do we said
at the top of the hour, I want to do
a little public service announced. It has nothing to do
with tortillas. But if you are a man or if
you are a woman who loves a man or cares
about a man in your life, if you don't take
anything away from this show. But oh yeah, that dude

(28:14):
told me because he survived cancer this year. He told
me about your PSA levels and all of that. I
just want to I promise I won't take a lot
of your time after the break, but I want to
make sure that you know. And I'll give you a
perfect example. One of my friends called me within the
last few weeks. He says, I've got cancer and I
would have never known it if you didn't announce on

(28:36):
the air you had it. So forget about my condition.
I'm caring. I'm caring about you and the ones that
you love. So we'll wrap up the hour with that.
Coming up next on The Dan Caplis Show. Eight minutes
away from the top of the hour, Stephan Tubbs in
for Dan Caplis on The Dan Caplis Show. Jesse Thomas
here as well. It's great to have you along. I

(28:56):
hope you have a very safe entry into twenty twenty six.
Again sounding like your mother, don't drink and drive, just
don't do it. The number here three zero three seven
to one, three eighty two fifty five, seven one three
eighty two to fifty five. You can text us thank
you to the great texts coming into the DAN that

(29:17):
capitalist law text line text DAN to five seven seven
three nine. It is good to be back in the saddle.
I had a show for six years over on K
and US. I worked here in this building from two
thousand and five to twenty seventeen, an unceremonious and the

(29:37):
idiots that made that decision have now moved on. I'm
really happy. That's one of the reasons. Somebody said none
of them are here, not a single one. Maybe that's
why I'm here. Hell has frozen over. I will say this.
I never would have thought I'd be back here as
a talk show host, even.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
For two hours. But you know what, as On Henley
saying forgiveness even if no.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
I will stop three zero three seven one three eighty
two fifty five. It has been a year. I said
this earlier. I think I can say this on the air.
You know, twenty twenty five. We all have those types
of years where you go, you know, that year can
kiss my this year can.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
F the way all the way.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Well that was that was one way to look at
my year. But the other way to look at at
the year would be, you know what, thank God for
great doctors. And I earlier this year was diagnosed with
prostate cancer. I was like, what, same doctor twenty years,
this physical this past February. Hey, your levels are a

(30:41):
little high. It's probably just an er. Comeback and take
it again. Anyway, it was bad. It was stage two,
which of course can always be worse. But I had
surgery in August, in fact, just a little more than
four months ago. Did you know that one in eight
men are diagnosed in their lifetime with prostate cancer the
older you get. And there I did talk with several

(31:03):
surgeons about this. Is it true most people when you
talk prostate cancer, maybe it's not the best topic to
talk about, even on a talk show. I'm telling you,
I'm trying to give you information so you can be
smarter and beat this or at least keep an eye
on this, because again, one in eight are diagnosed. But

(31:23):
I would talk with surgeons and I'm like, you know,
one of the things you would hear about prostate cancer
is if you live long enough, you'll get it. Most
men die with it, not of it.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Docs.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Is that true, they said yes, but proof positive one
of in making the announcement. I mean, I've been in
on the air most of my adult life. I'm like
I told I asked my family, I asked my kids.
Should I say something about it on the air. They all,
every one of them said yes, just because that's who

(31:54):
you are. And I didn't need the sympathy, the empathy.
I got plenty of that off the air. But would
you know that I'm approaching now as we end the year,
nearly twenty different men have reached out. Some I knew,
many I did not, but through social media or whatever.
And one guy in particular, he's like, I would have never,
even in a thousand years, thought to pay attention to

(32:17):
my numbers.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
I don't you know.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
I wasn't going to get physicals, so they didn't have
the blood test results. Sure enough, he has cancer. He
has surgery next month. And this is a guy he
said it, not me. He's like, I think you coming
out with it and talking about it on the air,
you saved my life. Well, I'm not here to take
any credit for anybody's life, but I'm only wanting to
give you information, and especially to you women listening out

(32:41):
there because men, we suck, we're dumb. We don't take
care of our health like women do in general. And no,
men getting a PSA test is not you know, bend
over in cof Moon River. It's a blood test. It's
a blood test. Now, I'm going to tell you the
other parts that'll come if you if you need to.

(33:03):
But Jesse, you know people with survivors of prostate cancer.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
Yeah, I know two time survivor Jack Cordyan exactly the
end of our broadcast. He he always tells reminds people
to get get checked and go for Jack.

Speaker 1 (33:14):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
And if you have if like you said, I mean,
he's the same way with you, If it just saves
one life, it's all worth it.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
You know exactly.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
I mean, it's just it's something you don't have to
you don't have to die of. So please in the
New Year, Jesse, I want you to be thinking as
we head to the top of the hour, next hour,
we at least by the like in an hour right
around this time, as we say good night, maybe your
number one or.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
Number two new Year's resolutions, you bet? Yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
And if you want to text in your New Year's resolutions,
text Dan fifty seven seven, three night.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Let's try to sneak Alexa in here. Before the top
of that, Alex.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
I'm sorry, I went off on a tangent Aleska. Alexa
joins us. Happy New Year, friend.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Happy new Year. So glad to hear you, So fitting
for you to be on the end of the year.
He took over his spot.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
This that's true. You know I did. I remember over
at kN US. I took over for Dan and Craig,
mostly mostly Dan.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Thank god, don't don't forget the California billionaire taxes they're
proposing networks. Oh yeah, and you know what, yep, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
No. I was just going to say, we're running out
of time. So it was very poor planning on my part.
I'm sorry, Alexa, but happy or slip sliding away?

Speaker 2 (34:32):
Happy New Year. This billionaire tax in California, the people
are they're going to leave. I'm telling you they're going
to leave.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
Daniel Jorinski comes up after the news here on the
Dan Kaplis Show.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
