Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Anger Stave along with Captain Nick from Arnison's
Rocky Point Resort. Thank you for joining me, Nick, So
tell me what are you guys seeing in the water today?
What fish are we catching?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
You know, we're seeing a lot of nice saugers, you
know of even fourteen fifteen sixteen inch saugers, and also
those nice seventeen eighteen inch walleyes hitting the pail too,
and along with a lot of nice jumble perch as well.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
I've seen quite a few bourbot come through the ice
and some pretty big northerns come through the ice so
far this year too.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, them slimmy things. The poor man's lobster like to
call up here.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
So let me ask you a question. Nick. You you
guide in the summer as well as the winter. Do
you ever preference when you do guiding in the summer
of the winter. Do you have one that you prefer
doing more than the other?

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah? You know, I love love the summer fishing, love
being in the boat. One thing you don't have to
worry about being cold and then to a fish and full.
All you gotta do is just start up the boat
and go.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
But then in the summer time and you have to
worry about then wind though in the summer too, though,
right we're in the winter time, you don't have to
worry about wind so much.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, but even in the winter time, that wind, you know,
can play a factor and just how fishing is. And
then the summertime, I mean, you know, we get those
windy days. But you know, you can go a lot
of spots on the lake here and hide if you
have to.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
So here's a question for you, Nick, When you're not guiding,
you're not out on the lake, it seems like you're
always on the lake. What do you do to entertain yourself?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Believe or not. I still go fishing all my days off. Really,
that's how much I love it. Yeah, yeah, I love
getting a fiance out and everything.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
So speaking of fiance, this is a pretty pretty new
thing that's happened. You've got engaged recently?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, right in October there.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Okay, and it's is he you guys are getting married?
Have you guys picked a date yet?

Speaker 2 (01:54):
You know we're gonna do twenty twenty six in October
right around there, you know. And then it's not too warm,
not too cold, and you know, just right.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Perfect, that's a perfect time. Because then you're kind of
is in between seasons for you then too, really, isn't it?

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yeah, yep, it is. It's starting to be your off
season there. We only have a handful of trips going
out during the week, and then I'll get to a
lot of my guide buddies here get to go to
the wedding as well, which will be awesome. You know.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
So here's a question for you. Somebody's coming up the
Lake of the Woods, are going to do some fishing.
They've never fished there before. What is the biggest piece
of advice you can give to somebody.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Well, I would have to say, you know, do a
little bit of reading on it. Just you want to
make sure you're a fishing the right correct depths, you know,
and make sure your line is adjusted to where it
needs to be. You know, up here you want to
be about that two to four maybe even six inches
off the bottom, no more than that. We get a
lot of people that get confused and they think it's

(02:54):
you know, two or four feet off the bottom. But
that's just too far, you know, while eyes like to
be towards that bottom.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Is there a color right now that's working better than
anything else, you know, I've been really.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Seeing the pink and white a little bit of glow
as well. That's been really hot. Also, you know, just
the old trusty plainehook in a split shot. Can't go
wrong with that one.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Fantastic, And you're up at Arnison's rocky point. If people
want to learn more about Captain Nick, is there someplace
they can find you on social media?

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Yeah? Yeah, well, I mean, you know, you go right
on Arnison's web page and you see a lot about
me right there, or just my normal Facebook Nick Dano,
that's on there as well. You're moreso on Facebook than
anything else.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Okay, you get somebody in the house, what's the first
tip you give them?

Speaker 2 (03:47):
You know, I I I go back to that two
to four to six inches off the bottom to be
honest with you.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Okay, and then one last question, what's the craziest thing
you ever seen somebody do? Either on your boat or
in a fish house? Now keep in mind this show's PG.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Yeah. Yeah, well then that makes a little tougher.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Now, well, you know, you can just give us innuendos.
Have you ever caught have you ever caught anybody getting
intimate in the house?

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Oh? Yeah, absolutely, you know, that's why we have to
make sure we knock before we go into those houses,
that's for sure. Well, then on the boat, honestly, Yeah,
one time I had a gal she was she started
falling asleep on the front of the boat and I
look over and the rods halfway in the water. I
run up to the front of the boat and I
set the hook for her and she starts roiling in
a twenty eight inch Walley.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Well, whatever it takes. Everybody's got their own personal style
when it comes to fishing, don't they.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Oh yeah, you know, it's it's never a dull moment
out here, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Well, congratulations to you and Izzy, and we'll see you
guys at the lake.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Okay, yeah, sounds good. Thank you, Chris.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Here's Asia on the Fox.
