Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dashy and the Morning Show with DJ fourn It saw
a Ta Big Morning.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Bustin's number one for hip hop jam in ninety four
or five.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Hi, everybody, good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
You know, we found out in a study that they
did about this show that we have a lot of
new ears and new people listening. And I do want
to give credit where credit is due. I think Nick
Rocco really helped us out there, because once Karen Reid
started and the trial began, it's just, you know, we
could read the headlines and we could read the articles,
(00:35):
but we weren't at ground zero, like we weren't in
a courtroom.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
You know, we.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Couldn't talk about the nuances of people's facial expressions and
what it was like to be in there and did
Karen look at, you know, this person a certain way
and all the things. And so we started having Nick
Rocco come on the show, and then we had this
segment once a week where it felt like we had
a little true crime thing going on, and that has
(01:00):
not ended because Karen is gearing up for potentiallybly not
but potentially another trial. Like I said, usually we get
word about things like this earlier in the week, and
then we tell you hey, Thursday Friday, We're gonna have
Nick on. It's not often where it's like I'm getting
a ton of messages. I'm calling Santi last night, text
and Nick, hey, can you come on? Even I'm a
(01:22):
little bit confused at some of the big revelations that
happened last night.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
So that's why we had to get you on.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
You know, you're fresh off of vacation, tanned up, and
I'm like, oh, that's so nice. Hope you had a
good one. Now it's time for work. Let's start with
the headline that I am actually seeing, which is that?
And please stop and correct me if I'm wrong. Karen
Reid is asking for the court to pay up to
twelve thousand dollars in fees for her certain experts that
(01:51):
she's had to fly in and house.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
During all of this.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Right so between travelair, hotels, stay and all that, it
was a little over twelve thousand dollars that her expert
had flown in to basically meet with Hank Brennan in
their expert to go over all the video footage from
January the early morning of January twenty eighth into the
(02:17):
twenty ninth, which was the morning that John John O'Keeffe
was killed. So their expert came in and basically was
even though they arranged this meeting, they told him when
you got there, sorry, there's nothing and everything's deleted. Everything's gone,
so waste of it. It was a waste of time,
(02:37):
even though the Commonwealth knew he was coming trying to.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Say everything's deleted, as in, like all of the footage
we had from from that night morning, you know, it's gone.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
We got nothing.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Correct. So the way that the Canton Police Department system
works is it overwrites every thirty days, so basically it'll
say for thirty days and then and then it goes away.
But the issue with that is the Commonwealth is providing
video footage, as we saw the inverted video that was
submitted into court and in the middle of the trial,
(03:11):
and then just most recently in October, the Commonwealth gave
them more video footage. It's not necessarily new video, but
it's new to the defense, as in they've never seen
it before. So that can only tell you the Commonwealth
has had this in their possession since those original thirty
days and they're not giving it to the defense team.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
That is wild to me.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
So Basically, they're like, if it works to their advantage,
they'll somehow make it save itself after the thirty days,
and if it doesn't play to their side, they'll make
sure that the system.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Deletes it.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Right And ultimately they somewhere somehow they downloaded those within
those thirty days of the of the murder. They downloaded
that footage, so they did have it. Now, if they
completely deleted it since October, that could be, but at
the same time, it was somewhere for two and a
(04:07):
half years and they just never provided it though.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
So if I'm an outsider listening to this right now,
break it down as as easy with so that we
can digest it. Essentially, Karen's like, you're going to pay
for my expert that I spent twelve thousand dollars on
because we met with your expert just to learn nothing
that there's no footage, So it was a waste of
our time.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
That's why I want the money.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Correct footage. The Commonwealth is saying that the hardware is
gone as well, So basically you can't even look at
the camera because here's the issue is the Commonwealth was
saying that that inverted video. That's how the cameras record. Now,
if her expert goes in there and looks at that
(04:51):
camera and it's not inverted, the that proves someone manually
inverted that video and they can't have that.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
I'm still not far suppressing evidence.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
I'm still like body, I think I'm still confused on
the why why should why should she pay for any expert?
Then if she's only asking specifically why specifically this one,
why specifically is she asking for twelve thousand dollars back
on this one?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Because is that what it is?
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Because they wasted time and they came and they were like, listen,
we can't give you anything. We don't have anything to
break down between the two experts.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Yeah, pretty much. I I mean it goes. I mean yes.
And also they knew he was coming, and they knew
they had nothing.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Facts, and they still let him come and be like, hey,
we don't got the stuff that you're coming to look at,
No need to take the trip.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Let's make us spend her money and have the people
come to her. That's what they're trying to do.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Okay, So she wants the twelve k back for this
because it was a waste of time.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Fine, I also saw a ton.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Of people writing me being like Ashley, there's there's new
video you surveillance.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
They got Brian Higgins in a lie.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
There.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
They're catching him in a lie. Break that down for everybody.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Right, So again, it's not necessarily new video footage, right,
it's just new to the defense and as they haven't
seen it yet, the Commonwealth has known about this. So
Brian Higgins, who's the ATF agent who was on the
stand during trial during the federal grand jury. During his testimony,
he stated he made no phone calls that night or
(06:30):
early morning. He got caught with the two twenty two
butt dial. He got caught. He got caught in a
lie with that because Alan Jackson showed him records that
the Feds handed over to the defense and said, well
what is this call about? And he and then he
kind of had to explain it as a butt dial
now that one four am phone call as he's leaving
(06:52):
the Canton Police Department. He swore up and down on
the stands he made no phone calls. So here's line
number two about him making phone in the early morning
after John O'Keefe was killed.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
So there's actual video surveillance of him on the phone
by the way for everyone, because there's always you know,
there's so many players in this story. Brian Higgins is
the one that Karen Reid was texting with where it
was very uncomfortable for I'll just say that for everybody.
The text message between the two of them maybefe worth
listen free Karen. But I'm just saying didn't love them.
That is who he is. But now we have him
(07:25):
saying on the stand, no, I did not make any calls,
but there's video evidence proving that that, in fact was
not true.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
We don't know who he.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
Called, right correct, And the reason why we don't know
is because the defense team had put in a motion
to get his cell phone records, Brian Albert's cell phone
records and a few other peoples, and Judge Beverly Canoni
denied those. So the only information that they have about
his phone records is what the is what the Feds
(07:53):
handed over to the defense. Now they could have only
handed over you know, that two twenty two butt dial
phone call and not anything else. So this this was
new to them, that he was on the phone. He
you know, and I was going to say, oh, he
was listening to voicemails, but I mean at one thirty
four in the morning, you've been drinking all day. I
don't think the last thing you do and is listening
to voicemails.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Yeah that now you're calling somebody. Who it is is
yet to be determined, but you're calling somebody for sure.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
How would that play to Karen's advantage in court?
Speaker 4 (08:27):
So basically it's considered a Brady violation that the state
is withholding evidence from the defense team, which then requires
you to file a motion to dismiss. Now, this won't
be the first motion to dismiss in this case, because
they did it in the first trial. Judge Beverly Canoni
denied that, and now with the second trial coming up,
(08:49):
they're going to file another another motion to dismiss based
on government misconduct. And I mean, if we can make predictions,
we know she's not going to approve of that.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Man, the Camp police just cannot get it together.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Anything else that came out last night that we should
be aware of.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
Just one other thing about Brian Higgins is his timeline.
He stated that he arrived back home and broked in
around one in the morning, but we see him on
the video camera at one thirty fourth still at the
Campton Police Department. And it takes he said, it takes
about fifteen twenty minutes to get home. Add a little
snow to it might be a little longer. Sure, so
he didn't get home until most likely after two in
(09:32):
the morning. So little things like that, there's no reason
to lie about things like that.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Oh, if you're innocent, there's absolutely no no reason to
lie about that. And little here's the thing, little things
like that are going to add up.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
They are adding up, they are I do got a question, basically,
go ahead, whatever happened to the lead investigator. You remember
the lead investigator who was found to be lying on stands.
I think that yes, And then he was supposed to
the well, he was supposed to go before some kind
of a bull to see whether he was going to
keep his job.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
That was last week or the week before. I believe,
did he keep us job?
Speaker 1 (10:05):
It got rescheduled?
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Well did he get rescheduled? Basically they went the whole day. Uh,
And they need more time. So February tenth is the
next hearing for him, and then after that they'll they'll
most likely make a decision. It will get passed up
to the colonel and then the colonel ultimately has the
final say whether you know, he loses vacation days, he
gets fired in vacation.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Get fired the test alone. We're just.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
Ye crazy, they all they all did something really really white.
This guy's dumping phones at an army barrackses or something
like that. I'm like military basis. I'm like, why are
you doing that?
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Bro?
Speaker 2 (10:48):
It's yeah, it's crazy. Okay, So Nick, what's next? What
do we got next?
Speaker 4 (10:54):
She got caught at the end of the month to
go over the Richard Green which is the hawflong to
die Google search expert. They want to bring him in,
uh to question him again, and then ultimately, you know,
still waiting on if the Commonwealth is going to file
a motion to exclude the ARCA experts which were hired
by the FBI. So still he's Hank Brennan is still
(11:18):
trying to exclude her experts. So that'll that'll be most
likely in the court dates coming up.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Okay, just out of curiosity, I know Karen had you know,
she had sold her home and all the things, like
is her full time job?
Speaker 6 (11:35):
Now?
Speaker 2 (11:36):
This is this like she can't possibly do anything else?
I mean, is this her day to day.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Oh. I mean she she's probably the most active defendant
working hand in hand with her lawyers that that I've
ever seen. It's just it's incredible. I mean, you really
can't work because think about how many days you'd have
to take off from work and this and that. But
one thing that I want to say before we go,
(12:03):
I'm going to read a quote from Hank Brennan in
August twenty eighteen. This was words right out of his mouth.
And Hank Brennan is the new prosecutor on the Karen
Reid case. It's impossible to have a fair trial when
there's police reports and evidence that contradict witnesses. That was
a statement he made after for during the Whitey Bulger case.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
God, oh my god. Well that one's he knows.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
What's going to happen in this case. But it's pretty
much the same thing.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Yeah, it pretty much is all right, Nick, well, as always,
thank you so much. We'll be in contact and like
he said, Karen is expected in court at the.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
End of the month, so obviously we'll have Nick back
on Then.
Speaker 6 (12:45):
How do you have a life like after this entire thing, Like,
there's no way you can go back to work because
then it follows you there and everything like that.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
You got to Casey, Anthony, you got to move, you
have to you gotta move, You got to start over,
you got to get a.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
New job, all the things.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
And if she gets found completely not good you and
all the charges, she can believe, you know what I mean,
she can really make that into something good books, interviews,
you know, she can sue the state, she can sue
the police department.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Yeah, she can really make it like worth a while.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
But right now I'm wondering, like how you even paying
fifteen thousand dollars for an expert of Vienna.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
That's where a Nick Roco comes into play. And he
has a Facebook page. Every time I'm on there, it's like,
hey guys, we're doing another raffle.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Hey guys, she doesn't have the money. She doesn't.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
It's it's it's people that believe that she is innocent. Yeah,
And I mean she's had to move back in with
her parents, like she's she has to do these things
just to stay afloat. And it's people's donations and stuff
that are helping her to be able to you know.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
And that was first one. Now she has to go
through this entire thing again again. It's double the price.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
If you missed any of that with Nick Rocco, you
