Two lifelong Houston sports guys named AdamTalking Your Team, Adam Clinton and Adam
Wexler are the A Team A Teamhere on Sports Talks seven to ninety.
It is another award winning edition ofthe A Team Here as we take you

(00:25):
up until five thirty, the nationallytelevised game against the Clippers will be backed
up and starting thirty minutes earlier,so we will be off the air a
little bit earlier as well. Butin the meantime, wex I It's been
a minute since I've seen someone ina Rockets uniform dominate the way they did

(00:48):
last night, particularly against that opponent. But there is going to be a
heck of an effort that's going tobe needed to have an encore after what
happened last night on the floor downthere where we are sitting here inside Toyota
Center. Because what Alpera and Shingoundid and who he did it against that
was incredible. I was watching iton TV. I was not here.

(01:11):
You were calling the game alongside Matt, and that's I mean. I listened
back to some of Matt's fourth quartercalls, in particular, obviously heard you
know, Craig and Ryan losing theirminds. Was that this insane in person
to watch as it seemed like itwas. Every time he had the ball
in the second half, it feltlike he was going to score, and
every time he had the ball inthe second half, it felt like he
did score. And while when binYama got his more than his fair share

(01:34):
of blocks, although he's been ona tear lately, he's still averaging a
little under three and a half blocksper game. Had no trouble topping that
for the seventh consecutive game, andhe was a good protector of the basket
for those particular shots that he blocked. But his counterpart took thirty two shots,
twenty nine of them were inside thethree point line, and he got

(01:57):
dominated. There is no other wayto put it, and that's with having
his own shot blocked by webbin Yamafive times in the game, he still
scored forty five points. He wasstill crazy efficient at nineteen for thirty two
and thirty of he left ten onthe table. Well, you're saying he
made all would have made all fiveof those. Now, granted they were
all right at the basket, buthe missed his bunnies every now and then.

(02:21):
Not last night, though unless itwas blocked, he basically wasn't missing.
He scored thirty points in the secondhalf. Wemby had none. Wemby
also didn't take any shots in thesecond half because every time they gave him
the ball in the fourth quarter, the Rockets either took it away from him
literally he had three fourth quarter turnovers, or he had to give it up
because there was nothing for him todo. Shn Goon gets a lot of
the fourth quarter credit, who aresome of the defense on Wemby. Most

(02:45):
of the rest of the game thecredit goes to the team, specifically Dylan
Brooks. That was the man theyearmarked to defend him last night. As
the game began, he was theprimary defender. The Rockets were switching a
ton. He opened the game hittingthe first five points for the Spurs two
of three and had five points rightout of the gate. He scored five
the rest of the game, noneof them in the second half, and
again it became less of a storyof what he wasn't doing and much more

(03:07):
of a story what Alpera and Shangoondid. Dude, clearly, it's the
best game of his NBA career.Bested his career high in points by several
baskets, and I also had fivesteals in the game, again, a
bunch of those coming in the fourthquarter. The Spurs, i'll admit,
have played better basketball over their lastten games or so, and Wenby's a
big reason why. But even lastnight, with him doing next to nothing,

(03:30):
they stayed in the game until thefourth quarter. It's not quite the
pushover that their record says it is. But there's no reason the Rockets shouldn't
have beaten them last night, noreason they shouldn't beat him in a week
in San Antonio. Unfortunately, theycan't sweep the season series. But what
you're leading into was, yes, that was one of the most entertaining games
of the season. Good games allthe way around, and alpron just it's

(03:53):
a game I think everybody knew wasin him, probably didn't expect it to
come against them and that player.Oh look, here's the deal. First
and foremost, they should have neverlost to that team in overtime in the
first matchup this season. But that'sobviously as you said in the rearview mirror.
Secondly, Victor Wambin Yama should havebeen the first pick in this past

(04:13):
year's NBA draft is going to bea good player in this league. But
if you're sitting there telling me atthis point, oh, this guy is
gonna be transcendent, He's gonna bethe best player in the NBA in two
three years, I have no problemarguing with you about that. I'm not
saying he's going to be bad ora bust or anything like that. I
joke and say he's a bum attimes. I don't think he's gonna be
a bum. But I'm not convincedthat this guy is just gonna change the

(04:36):
NBA. Maybe I'll look like anidiot in a few years. That's it's
not gonna be the first time that'shappened. But I just a guy like
that should have been more effective againstan Alpera and Shingun Alpern had no fear.
And this is not again. Ihad a conversation about this last night.

(04:56):
This is not Yao Ming not scoringin his first game against the pay
on the road his rookie season, and he now, over the course of
time, who was the same heightas Victor but much much more sturdy.
As his career went on, assertedhimself became that dominant big man and the
only thing that kept him from beingone of the all time greats was his
feet, his health. If Victorwobin Yama doesn't put on like massive amounts

(05:20):
of legit NBA muscle, he's gonnaget thrown around. His whole career was
happening last night. Yeah, ofcourse, here we are a couple of
minutes into the show. Yeah tellme why you just Kevin Durant weys nothing.
And while he plays a totally differentstyle of basketball, they never had
to put on weight to succeed inthis league. What Wemby could do offensively,
that has nothing to do with way. He did not play well.

(05:43):
He did not find where he couldget his shots. And again he's coming
off sixty points in the two gamesprior to last night. He's you know,
I think there's a ladder of excellencethat people are maybe putting him at
the very top step when that tome is ridiculous. And the word you
use, transcended, I think that'snuts. I barely even I don't even
know which NBA players period ever,I would call transcendent. You know,

(06:03):
change the game, and Lebron didn'tchange the game. Lebron's just better than
everybody else. He's not the gameisn't changed and change the game. He
gets thrown around too much. Goat, Yeah, I think that all those
girls get down around too much.I don't throw around the word love nearly
that much. I mean, heck, I hard Liver used it. Do
you love me? I have touse it on you. I've hugged you

(06:24):
and stuff. Yeah, yeah, where he came back from vacations and think
a minute, I didn't mean it, No, but I mean that's a
that's a debate that's not going anywhereanytime soon. Uh. He's been,
like I said, he's been unbelievablesince probably since the trade deadline. And
yesterday he had the fourth fewest pointshe's had in a game all season.
He didn't take a shot in thesecond half, and he got absolutely dominated.

(06:45):
We were talking about the magnitude ofShengon's game, and you know,
Matt brought up the obvious. Imean, how many times this year and
how many times ever do you thinkthe opposing center is going to put up
a forty spot on Wemby. Andagain, not every single play was against
him, but a lot of themwere. They weren't necessarily matched up on
both ends, but they were matchedup on the when the Rockets had the
basketball, and because of his size, they didn't double team, and look

(07:08):
what happened. Sheng Gun's been gettingdoubled for the last three weeks and he
has struggled. This time, evenagainst an elite shot blocker, he was
able to go crazy, so fortyfive points Wemby had ten. It's the
second time already the opposing center hasoutscored him by thirty five or more points
in the game. Because we weretalking about it yesterday and he said,

(07:30):
I wonder, I mean, itcan't be that many times someone scored forty
on him. Joe l Embiid scoredseventy against the Spurs. That was against
the Spurs. Now Wemby had thirtythree, but again he was outscored by
five last night, was outscored bythirty seven in that game. That's the
best center in the league, ifnot one or two with Jokic and Alprin.
Shin Gun, I thought, madea legitimate run at being one of

(07:51):
the All Star selections out of theWest this year and continues to show.
It's absolutely a building block for thisteam. And that's what should come out
of what hopefully the final twenty gamesprovide you want to find more of this.
You had good basketball again for thethird straight game from Jalen Green.
Again, playing good basketball is notnecessarily the same thing as shooting the basketball

(08:11):
well. Because he made one shotfrom behind the three point line, he
tried ten times to make a shot, he only made one, but he
also scored twenty three points by makingnearly every other shot he took the entire
game, didn't take a single freethrow, and managed to get twenty three
points on twenty three shots. Fredhad another strong shooting game, and Cam
Whitmore just said late third quarter forgetit, get out of my way,
and this thing is over. Hejust bull rushed the basket like eight times.

(08:35):
And all those things being said, the one thing that carried over from
the first game in Phoenix to thesecond game in Phoenix to last night's game
was put him up. Let's fight. We aren't backing down. Third straight
game, ge Rockie the other GeVme. Did you see that interview?
Of course you'll be hearing it againduring a rockets countdown, although that part

(08:56):
of it might not be Priva hearinga little beepy coming up, a little
censoring coming there, but yeah,it was nice. Ben Thompson got tripped
and he didn't like it, gofigure, and so he got up in
the face and shoved James Dennis Rodmanvery very discounting. He's not elited anything.
But real quick question for you, this is serious question. Okay,
Why did at some point last nightget different, you know, moments on

(09:20):
the court throughout the course of thegame. Why did Greg Popovich think that
it was a good idea to trotout a French broomstick discount Dennis Rodman and
g easy and think they were goingto beat the Rockets with that lineup and
two other scrubs. They did someinteresting things that Champenni was starting both haves
and basically didn't play at all.Coins is such a blow hard cut your

(09:41):
hair. Stop You're not a model, Just stop it. You look like
an idiot. And so hand guyhate. I hate. They weren't Spurs
uniforms, I know, and Istill hate them. They're the Spurs that
just to push Kayne to the backburner. I mean, what do you
want to say? Nick Cassario backat it again today, locking up some

(10:03):
of his own free agency can bea team altering operation each and every off
season. We'll see if it isfor the Texans. But two prominent members
of last year's division winning playoff gamewinning outfit are going to be back in
the fold with extensions. Three yearsfor Dalton Schultz agreed to yesterday, three
years for kicker Kyami Fairbairn agreed totoday. We can debate the merits of

(10:28):
the amount of the money, andthen we can just spin our wheels like
we did the last time he signedan extension, and I said, of
course it's the right thing. That'stoo much, marniwex. Of course it's
the right thing. I will sayit again. Of course is the right
thing. But I am willing tolisten to both sides of it. And
there is a possibility more could stillbe coming from Nick Cassario and the Texans
among the other remaining free agents beforethey truly hit free agency. The league

(10:50):
year begins as the free agency periodbegins, coming up on the thirteenth,
that is a week from today beforewe get on the air, several hours
before we get on the air thatday. But as I mentioned yesterday and
and pretty much forever, if youhave the right guys as your three specialists,
your long snapper, your placekicker, and your punter unless it's outrageously cost

(11:13):
prohibitive, and it pretty much can'tbe at those three positions. No offense
to John Weeks and all the longsnappers out there. They barely make above
the league minimum. They make overa million dollars. That's basically it.
Every year. One year deal onepoint eight million, next year one point
eight three million, next year onepoint eight six million. I mean,
you're not counting minimum, right,You're not breaking a bank to return an

(11:35):
elite outfit. I admire the onlything I admire that Nick Cassia has done
all three years that he's been runningthings and out potentially into a fourth year.
They actually care about their special teams, coverage units, return units,
and specialists, and they're well ontheir way to doing that again. To
that end, and some of theirother free agent plans maybe outsiders. We

(11:56):
will talk with the ESPN beat reporterDjbenemy at four o'clock as he was the
first to report the extension for Fairbaronand obviously it is all over what the
Texans have in mind for the remainderof this portion of the league year,
and obviously into the actual portion thebeginning of the twenty four NFL League year.
And of course we also have nickelbacktickets to get the way Well yeah,

(12:16):
I mean that should have actually beenthe first thing out of the gate
when we started the show, butyou know, we prioritize some other things,
all right, So all that anda whole lot more live from inside
Toyota Center, where as we mentionedback to back, second night of a
back to back Rockets Clippers getting iton in a matter of a few hours
down there on the floor. Youspeaking of getting it on, you can

(12:37):
do that at Kushata. I'm talkingfiguratively, of course, I guess literally
you could. They have hotels thereplural, so you could do that too.
But Kushata Casino Resort knows that Marchis one lucky month and when you
head out there throughout the month ofMarch, especially on Tuesdays. Right,
So this started yesterday, the eightythousand dollars Pot of Gold giveaways. Saturday,

(13:00):
March sixteenth, the huge two hundredthousand dollars Saint Patrick's Lucky Cash giveaway.
And that's just a couple of datesto think about throughout this month.
Everything that we always tell you aboutis there as well. It's just an
oasis in the middle of kinder Louisianathat you can get to have a good
time and just forget about life fora while. And of course the in

(13:22):
between February and April's aaniness. Weknow what that's called. They bounce the
ball, they throw it through thehoop. They are college students. Is
it mad? It's very, verymad. But you got to hang out
to the rest sports. But forall those games, all those days,
throughout the first week, the secondweek, the weekends, and on into
the last four teams that are finallymeeting together at the end of the tournament.

(13:43):
But you're can again watch and enjoyall those games. Of course,
you're wagering right there at the ressportsbook, all the kiosks right there for
your ease of betting, Giant fortygiant TVs. And it's all right there
inside the largest casino resort in Louisiana. We are talking about Kushata online Fishata
Casino Resorts dot com. Get set, make your plans, get away,

(14:05):
enjoy the hoops, enjoy the sports, enjoy the sports book at Kushata.
Hey, no, everybody, BillWalton here you listening to the where is
Jerry Garcia? I guess I'll settlefor the A teams. Some Sports Talk
seven ninety eighteen rolls along here onSports Talks seven ninety we are live inside
Toyota Center Rockets and Clippers later ontonight tip off at six thirty. I

(14:26):
feel like we should do a PSAanytime we mentioned tonight's game. Hey,
it's gonna start a little bit earlier. It's just in wex Houston is a
little bit of a later riving crowd. Doesn't matter the venue, especially for
Rockets games, but get in here. It's a nationally televised game. Some
guy with a beard who played herefor a long time is going to be
back here for the second time thisseason. And their star power with the

(14:50):
Clippers and last night was awesome. So yeah, it's gonna be a good
time down on the Toyota Center floortonight. It was not a good time
out in Flora where the Astros gotrained out today, I feel like I
should put a disclaimer. I mean, if we're gonna do a JV update,
are you supposed to like give anupdate on what he did to spend

(15:13):
the time instead of trying to rampit back up if it was rain.
I mean, I know he's notplaying, He's not just hitching. These
are two different things. The rainand the Astros game have nothing to do
with JV. I guess it isseparate. I just wanted to make sure
that we're, you know, onthe up and up when we do this
every day. It's three fifteen. It is time for a JV update,

(15:35):
JV update from basketball and here atTC to talk Astros. He's been here
before. He has been here before. He showed off his ring here before
good Gift. He showed off hisring with a missus V Kate, Justin's
wife. Yeah, missus V.Yeah. Uh. The JV update for

(15:56):
today again. Yes, the Astrosballgame was rained out. Two pitchers scheduled
to go in that one still gottheir work in. Those who were scheduled
to pitch in the game did notbecause there was no game. But JV,
of course, is not among them. Yesterday's news was that he will
start the season on the injured list. Came to camp a couple weeks behind
schedule. The schedule doesn't stop. They did not push back the games against

(16:18):
the Yankees. No rescheduling of themajor league schedule because of JV, so
some of the early season games hewill be unprepared for. But barring any
setbacks, everything is still in linefor him to be prepared as soon as
he is eligible and before he throwshis first live BP session. He thinks
he's probably going to have one morebullpen session in order to get to that

(16:40):
point, and that is tentatively scheduledfor Friday. Tentatively scheduled for Friday.
If that takes place, then earlynext week he might in fact have his
first bullpen session or excuse me,first live VP, and that would be
probably the first of three or four. According to both Jana Brown and Joe
Aspata, who spoke on this yesterday, that's a typical timeline for any pitcher.

(17:00):
That's what they would want for him. JV obviously could dictate otherwise if
things going in even more positive directionthan that, but under all circumstances,
their intentions to have him on theIL when the season begins, and that
way there is no forced pressure totry to be prepared to play against the
Yankees or the Ray or excuity theJays and the ensuing home series to begin
the season. JP Frantz again goeshand in hand with the JV updates,

(17:23):
since they both reported to camp notquite ready to crush it. He also
is now moving forward, was ableto throw against hitters today, not a
long session for him. I mentionedthe other pitchers schedule to go today that
are expected to be in the Astros'rotation had to go the live BP route
route instead. Fraan Er Valdez andHunter Brown both were able to essentially get

(17:45):
their work in today by facing Astroshitters on the backfields. In light of
the fact they expected the game toprobably not be able to go off as
expected. They actually delayed the gamefor a bit before eventually calling it off,
though no baseball was played. Severalpitchers otherwise Seth Martinez and Dylan Coleman
to candidates for the bullpen. We'rehoping to get some more work in.

(18:07):
It's been a good spring so farfor Martinez, who also has some of
last year's work and the year beforehis work to put in the minds of
Astros brass. Dylan Coleman, onthe other hand, has worked with the
Royals in twenty twenty two, whichwas very very good work with the Royals
in twenty twenty three, which wasvery, very bad, and his couple
of outings in spring training for theAstros have I don't know. I don't
think anybody's pitch worse than him,to be honest with you, not to

(18:30):
be mean, but he has beenawful. He cannot throw strikes and that's
what has given him trouble. That'swhy he was available to the Astros in
general. So JV hopefully is backon the bump on Friday, all right.
That's separate though, that's separate fromthe actual Astros and the fact that
they were reigned out today. Sureto make that sure, Yeah, they

(18:52):
were a handful of regular schedule toplay today they obviously did not. Then
just a few more at bats they'llhave to get elsewhere and they will hopefully
there's not a lot of games out, but they have so many games scheduled
and they have so many other waysto get their work in. It is
a nothing, a big fat nothing. Literally, if Jeff Passen was there,
he would call it a nothing burger, right, all right. So

(19:12):
that's the latest on Justin. That'sthe latest on the Astros. We will
have more, as you mentioned kindof at the tail end of the first
segment. The Texans making moves, the Texans keeping their own, which is,
you know, kind of even thoughI kind of said, all right,
what's the bigger priority to improving thisclub? Is it keeping your own
or is it going outside of thefacilities? I mean, it's gonna be

(19:34):
a mixture of both, obviously, but these aren't moves, especially in the
case of Kayamie Fairbairn. I don'twant to downplay it because he's a kicker,
but it's at the same time, like, what percentage, how big
of an impact this is gonna reallybe on a team Other than staying consistent
where you needed to be. Thisis just solid. These are solid You
need to keep these guys in housemoves. Nothing of a splash nature just

(19:57):
yet, but that's on the way. I think I'm starting to feel more
and more like it did just haveto. I think consider the facts of
the NFL and that stretch of gamesthe Texans had. Every team has it.
First two weeks of the season, they were not competitive, they lost.

(20:18):
Next two weeks of the season, their opponents were not competitive. They
won, and then the next one, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight straight gameswere one score games multiple times.
Last play of the game was afield goal to win it. Falcons beat
him on the last play field goal. Panthers beat him on a last play
field goal. You won in Cincinnatibecause you were able to outscore them by

(20:41):
three points. Lost to Jackson Goby three points, beat Tennessee later in
the year by three points. Thosekicks matter. Ammon Doola. Being unable
to make one of those late gamekicks, you lose and you win three
to four games every year because ofit, honestly, and I mentioned it
yesterday. It's one of the reasonswhy the Titans had to fire Mike Brabel.

(21:02):
It's not his fault, they nevergot it in order, but his
record suffered because of it. Andthis is what you're looking at when you're
an owner and you're saying, well, we didn't win enough games. They
lost games because their kicker couldn't makefield goals during his multiple seasons there as
their head coach. And this issomething I think the Texans are smart to
not want to have to deal with. And I'm not sure where everybody truly

(21:22):
feels that Kaimi is in the kickerlandscape in the NFL. There's not much
to go by beyond the numbers,he's one of the best kickers in the
NFL. Well, okay, sowe cannot now. He's being paid like
one of the best kickers in theNFL, just like he used to be
paid when he first signed, likeone of the best kickers in their favorite
or best is is Justin Tucker.Yes, and just for information's sake.

(21:47):
Since twenty twenty one, Justin Tuckerhas made eighty eight point nine percent of
his field goal attempts, and he'sattempted more field goals than anybody in the
NFL eighty eight point nine. Kaimihas attempted far fewer because he's played in
a fewer games and the Texans triallot fewer field goals than Baltimore does.
Kymi's percentage is better at ninety onepercent. It's fourth in the NFL.

(22:10):
Tucker's ninth over the combined last threeseasons, so it's not a small sample
sides, it's a rather sizable one. He's fourth in the NFL in field
goal percentage. Granted, Tucker's numbersand other stronger legged kickers numbers might suffer
because their teams are more willing toattempt fifty three, fifty six, fifty
nine yard field goals. Kymi's goodfrom fifty with six to seventy a year

(22:33):
ago, but they don't try asmany as some others do. So all
of that can be taken with agrain of salt. But to me,
it is so simple every Sunday,it's never a thought that is not a
concern of yours. When you're infield goal range, you kick and he
makes it and you move on.It's it's a nice it's a nice luxury
to have in the NFL because we'veseen it, you know, teams struggle

(22:56):
in certain situations and that that's justnot something that Texans have to worry about.
Provided he's healthy, which means thecase last year. At times Josh
Allen's Bills have run into Pat MahomesChiefs and we always think, oh,
Mahomes outplayed him, the Chiefs outplayedthem, or this didn't work out.
Came down to some kicks. Well, if Tyler Bass makes a very makeable

(23:17):
kick. Now, granted Josh Allencould have pushed them further into you know,
a shorter kick, and he didn't. It wasn't an unmakable kick,
though it's a kick you expect. You're highly paid one of the better kickers
in the league to make. Andyeah, I'm fully aware that Kami Fairbaron
missed field goal at the end ofthe half in Baltimore. I am aware
of the game they lost by morethan three. I'm aware that there was

(23:37):
an extra point missed late season gameas well. I'm fully aware of all
that stuff. But this is asigning I get behind. He's now the
if the contract terms are to bebelieved, and that's always let's wait and
see. He's in the top fivenow among kickers in the NFL, just
as he was when he signed hisfirst extension under a different regime. He's

(23:59):
now making a little bit more money, a little over five per which again
not just because they have so muchroom. It does not prohibit you from
making the other eleven and eleven thatstart on the other plays from being a
lot better than they were a yearago. All Right, when we come
back Dalton Schultz officially re signing withthe Texans yesterday, you're gonna hear a

(24:21):
little bit of what he had tosay about his head coach. Let me
come back here on the eighteen.Hey, it's Unner Brown. Catch every
Ashros game on Sports Talk seven ninetybefore the iHeartRadio app Home of your Astros.
Back at it here inside Toyota Center. It is the eight team Sports
Talk seven to ninety, a littlebit of Rockets, a little bit of

(24:42):
Astros, and of course a wholelot of Texans this time of year as
the combine still going on, andwhat the Texans will do with their offseason
continues as well, locking up theirown and we're gonna talk to ESPN Texans
beat reporter Bienemy coming up at thetop of the hour. But as for

(25:03):
what they have done well, DaltonSchultz, along with Kyamie Fairbairn, is
back in the fold, signing thatthree year deal yesterday twenty plus million guaranteed.
I don't remember the exact figure, but of that deal that he signed
is going to be coming his way, and he was making the rounds today,
or at least went to the PatMcAfee show and shared some thoughts on

(25:25):
playing with the Houston Texans. Specifically, wex what it's like to play for
a guy that we covered as aplayer now cover as a head coach,
Demiko Ryans. I think for afirst year head coach like being able to
kind of sit back and you know, take in some of the some of
the feedback that you know, playersgive him, whether that player be a
rookie or you know, a twelveyear guy. You know, as a

(25:48):
as a player, you really feellike he cares and he listens, and
just the amount of respect that youknow, I had for who he was
kind of coming in, Like Iknew he was going to be a good
It was just, you know, can he be a good head coach?
And I think he's you know,he's gonna cement himself as one of the
great head coaches around the league goingforward. So this is something we've heard

(26:11):
about Tamiko Ryans in the past, the aspect of he listens a lot to
players, listens to just listens ingeneral. He's not ramriding the situation.
He's definitely in charge, but hisability to listen big part of why a
lot of people like playing for himand working with him. No, they
believe it. That's all it takes. If you're a coach that's telling your

(26:33):
players things and they just don't buyin and they don't believe in you,
well then they won't listen to you. And ultimately that's when the upper management
types, you know, the peoplethat handle logistics, the VP of football,
oppos types people they decide, Yeah, I think it's probably time for
us to go ahead and make achange, and we're gonna bring somebody else
in. And that's not happening fora long time for this football team,
even if they don't win. Ithink a lot of former players who show

(26:56):
what he showed, which I dothink is the same as but Mike Rabel
showed and others like that, Ithink they can actually buy themselves a little
bit more time if there aren't obviousWell, man, if he'd been a
coach for thirty years, he'd probablyknow how to do this, or he'd
be a little bit better at that. Because some people think that's why some
of the players aren't good future NFLcoaches, and then obviously when they are,

(27:18):
they think that's something they lack, and I don't think these guys these
days do. Certainly, it's anindividual thing, and either Rabel is good
at it or not, or hegoes good at it or not. Ron
Rivera is a former player, He'shad multiple opportunities as a head coach.
There are things that he's very goodat, there are things he's not,
and it's not necessarily tied to whetheror not he played the game in this
particular case, and somewhat like Rabel, these guys not only played, they

(27:41):
just played. Rabel played at anincredibly high level because he was in the
Super Bowl all the time. Andobviously, Demigo Ryans played for two very
good teams, first with the Texans, then with the Eagles, and then
not long after decided to get intocoaching, and about six years later he
was an NFL head coach, sovery much able to relate to players and
to recent players and to the styleof football, the type of people that

(28:03):
are around the game this time. And the Texans also put together their twenty
twenty four staff over the last handfulof weeks and announced it today. There
aren't a lot of significant changes, and certainly you'd believe at the most important
spots they made sure to handle thatproperly by not allowing any of that to
be changed. The OC doesn't change, the special teams coordinator doesn't change,
the DC doesn't change. The playcaller for both offense and defense does not

(28:26):
change. Promoted Rod Wright from assistantd line coach too defensive line coach,
which was reported a couple of weeksago, and a couple other additions were
made, bits and pieces of thestaff put together. Bill Davis also another
report from about a week ago he'llbe the new linebackers coach. Dino Vasso,
who's now been through several regimes again, has retained and has a little

(28:47):
bit different role running the entire secondary. Steven out of Goke remains working with
the safeties. Like I said, there's a couple other assistants that have moved
into slightly different roles, just notthat many newcomers to the staff, and
it doesn't appear there's any replacement forShane Day, the offensive assistant who went
back to the Chargers. They stillhave Bill Laser, still have Gerrod Johnson,

(29:07):
still have Bobby Slowick in the offensiveside of things, and again the
quarterback room remains to be seen. But each of the players that were in
the Texans quarterback room last year, all three of them, sorry Tim Boyle,
they're all under contract again for thisupcoming season. So in less that
one of them they decide doesn't needto be there, doesn't make the team,

(29:29):
or has trade value at some point, whether that's Davis Mills or case
Keenum, their quarterback room likely remainsthe same. Also, continuity. We
always talk about that, specifically withthe offensive line in football, but it
is It's not an overrated term. It's not something that is thrown around too
much like the words we were mentioningin the first segment. Far from it.

(29:51):
Continuity on an NFL team where theculture is good and things are going
right, can only make those twothings, I think, increase be better.
What have you like? Winning curesall ills. We've heard that cliche
a million times in sports. Butif you are winning and you want to
keep winning and you want to addto that win total, there are certain
things you need to do, andI think, especially in the case of

(30:15):
the Texans, the quarterback room that'spretty high at the top of the list,
especially in light of the fact thatyour offensive coordinator was being flirting with
being poached by a number of differentteams assafseasons. There are some theatrics on
a Boston radio show earlier this week, Half Radio, half TV Show,
Know what that's about, And theywere talking about this upcoming draft and they

(30:37):
need a quarterback and you've got toconsider who's in that quarterback room and how
are you putting pieces around them tohelp them. And your buddy. Bert
Breer was among the panelists, andhe was to see my buddy because otherwise
you'd say he's mine. So Ijust got to it first. Okay.
Good. He talked about he obviouslywas pretty close to the Texans situation.
And if you're wondering why that is, it's because he's an Ohio Stater and

(31:00):
so CJ. Stroud played at OhioState, so it's his favorite NFL player
and whatever he can do and talkto his bosses about. Hey man,
I really I think it's a greatstory. I need to be on this.
I need to make some phocallls.May as you should send me down
there. But he does have prettygood knowledge of what's going on. When
the Texans had a couple of theirkey wins during the year, some big
moments for CJ, he usually wasable to get in contact with CJ or
Case or Davis or somebody inside theteam for his new Monday Morning Quarterback right

(31:25):
up where he really did tell youwhat was going on. He was one
of the guys who talked about howthey would go out to dinner. It
was Davis and his fiance at thetime now wife Case and his wife and
CJ. And they would go outto dinner and they would build this fifth
wheel. Ask requested he has aspare tire if he got the invite,
I mean maybe this year he'll havesomebody to take so anyway, if it's

(31:45):
not her, he did know alittle bit about that, so he brought
up how important he knew that CaseKeenan was just to have there as a
resource for CJ as someone who's inthe room helping him learn, help him
see things, doing whatever the casemay be, on or off the field.
And the Boston guy who's like, look, we stink we need a

(32:06):
quarterback Case Kanum, what are youkidding me? Case Kanum helped CJ Stroud
exactly zero this year. That stuffdoesn't matter all. Either you can play
or you can't play. And thereare some people who totally believe that.
And if Case wasn't there, whatdo you think CJ wouldn't have played well?
He would have played well. ButI think having guys around he didn't
hurt the situation, right, Andit just kind of that could be that

(32:29):
actually can happen, by the way, with young quarterbacks. Well, it's
the point I brought up with theavailability of Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson is
somebody I do not want in myquarterback room next season. If I've just
drafted my future quarterback, I don'twant him in there. Such a good
point because I mean the obvious,I mean he annoys other players, that's

(32:52):
the obvious part. But then ifyou want to talk about Mike fourtell is
struggling. If you want to talkabout like the little nuances that can I'm
not gonna say they're gonna make abreak in NFL season, But that's just
not a guy that I want anywherenear. A young, impressionable quarterback.
Well, he wants to play. You think he's gonna be a super helpful

(33:12):
resource to the new comers. Hewants the job. Who should have the
job, but the job who wasdrafted to have the job. But this
isn't Brett fav and Aaron Rodgers orthan now Aaron Rodgers with Jordan Love.
It's it's it's different than that. This is this guy's coming in and then
on top of that thinking he shouldget the line's share of the minutes.
Yeah, so I don't think thatwould be what I would do. We'll

(33:32):
see because The other part of thatRussell Wilson news is his team and this
is kind of a given, butI guess making somebody reporting it also makes
you know that it's reality. Becausethey've told him they're going to release him
when the league year begins, that'sa week away. They've also already given
him permission, which they can doto kind of move forward with trying to
find a home. And so assoon as the opportunity opens, and it

(33:54):
will, then he will have aplace. We don't think he's going to
demand a whole lot of money becausehe's already getting all that money. We
think it opens the door for himto maybe have a larger pool of teams
that can be interested, and that'sprobably advisable if you're Russell Wilson. It's
not like he's trying to create abidding war, but he's trying to open
the door to maybe more situations thatare more to his liking. And again,

(34:15):
it could impact the AFC if helands with Pittsburgh, if he lands
with the Raiders. I don't thinkhe's terrible, it's just the quarterback pool
of AFC quarterbacks is so strong tothink he's going to help you beat those
teams in those quarterbacks consistently this upcomingyear, which he was unable to do
in either of the past two yearswith Denver. And there their problems.

(34:36):
By the way, Sean Payton alsohad a bad year last year. Wasn't
all Russell Wilson. They weren't goodon offense and they weren't good on defense.
So it's not the Russell Wilson.Yeah. Other than that, he's
got everything under control, all right. Speaking of Dalton Schultz, more from
him on the difference This is actuallyfunny, the difference between playing for the
Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys. And there are many, but he went

(34:58):
over some of the ones. Thisst out to him. Plus there are
now betting odds, very good ones. I might add on one of the
top free agents landing here in Houstonwith the Texans. We will wind down
the three o'clock hour with those twothings. When we come back here on
the eighteen, Let's go see ifwe can make this little kiddy per six
panther cologne for your radio six thetime. It works every time. Back

(35:23):
to Adam Clinton and Adam Wensler, the A team on Sports Talk seven ninety
eighteen rolling along from inside Toyota Center. Just an iconic character in NBA history
standing a few feet from us.I'll tell you about that in a little
bit. But bizarre, Yeah,I forgot about that. What was the

(35:46):
What was your favorite NBA on NBCteam? Probably Bill Steve and whoever did
play by play? Marv? Marv? What do you mean? Whoever did
play by play? Like it wasanybody else other than him? Costas never
happened? And that was it.No one else did, No one was
it. No one was the Bteam for NBC. It was either Marv

(36:07):
was calling it or he wasn't.The NBA was great, Yes, there
you go. So what else dowe have a third? We have Yes,
which we like. We have bangwhich we don't, which we don't.
Is there another one? Well,Kevin Harlan, But god, it's
just that he's not the voice ofanybody. He doesn't exactly. But but

(36:31):
if that, I mean, ifyou had to pick out your signature catch
word that Kevin Harlan used, isthat not? Probably it, because so
many of his calls are iconic becausethey're different. Like here's a flim thrawer.
I can't do that, by theway, But like that's his that's
his go to word, is itnot. I mean there's something something.

(36:52):
He had a gravity line way backwhen. Yeah, when Sean Bradley,
you know, got dunked on.Other than that, hold on, I
have to tell Mike Fortello something.Oh you're just that's awesome. Yeah,
you just do that, just touchtake some time. As we mentioned,
we do have some more of theconversation the Dalton Schultz shared with the Nation
as part of the Pat McAfee show. We mentioned his comments about his head

(37:15):
coach, easy to play for, easy to believe in, easy to follow,
and hopeful for the future. DaltonSchultz has had two NFL addresses,
both in Texas. He came fromthe Dallas Cowboys. He became a free
agent and he signed with the HoustonTexans last year and I was re signed
with the Texans this year. Hetalked about the differences between playing there and
playing here. The focus is justfootball, you know what I mean,

(37:37):
And going back and like telling somepeople like how kind of being around the
Cowboys like practice facility and you know, game day describing some of the interactions
and stuff that you see on aday to day basis, like surprise a
lot of people that are like, holy crap, like that actually happens like
at a practice facility and there's peopleliterally going on tours while you're lifting in

(38:00):
the weight room, and they've gotlike a one way They've got a one
way mirror for people to like lookat like it's literally it's a zoo,
dude, people tapping on the glasslike trying to get people's attention as they're
doing you know, power cleans orwhatnot. All right, I need a
little help here, and even tothose of you that didn't hear the entire
control. So when I wake upin the morning and I, uh,

(38:24):
let's say, get my shave on, I'm de bearding. What am I
looking into? Is that a oneway mirror or a two way mirror or
a three way mirror? It's aone way mirror. So then what is
Dalton Schultz talking about saying it's aone way mirror? He misspoke? Okay,
yeah, he confused me. It'sa two way mirror. Well,

(38:45):
a two way mirror, though,is is that not the one like in
the interrogation it only goes one wayfor onst are looking into a mirror,
but really, Olivia and Iced Teaare staring them down from the other room.
So what's a three way mirror?Nothing stuck? You just made that
up. That's probably at the circusand Amaze and you're just running into things
because there's mirrors and every which wayand you can't get and then you think

(39:07):
your kids are gonna have a blastin there, and they're just gonna start
crying. Have you ever notice thatfunhouses are not fun at all for a
variety of reasons. Uh, ifyou really you're in a horror movie,
you're not well. If you're ina horror movie, then you have zero
common sense, which is why thatcommercial, probably for Progressive, is so
hilarious. Why don't we get inthe running car? No, let's hide

(39:28):
behind these chainsaws? Exactly. That'sso good. It's it's it's a It
harkens to the rules of the horrormovie. Like you bought your ticket,
you've walked inside the theater, thelights have gone down and the previews are
over. So has your common sensegone out the window? If you watch
that movie with common sense, you'rejust not gonna enjoy it because you're gonna
be saying why would you do?Like Jason Freddy, most of these guys

(39:51):
Mike Myers, they're like the worstonly guy him, Mike Myers, which
makes me think you're talking about Wayneand Garth or you know, doctor Evil,
Frederick Krueger and Michael Myers and JasonVoorhees Frederick, Like seriously, if
you can't get away from them,it's of course it's on you, but

(40:12):
you know, barely even moving. In the case of Frederick, it doesn't
matter because he's gonna find you whenyou go to sleep. That's the caveat
there. That's what makes him extracreative. Yes, that one's a little
different. I was really speaking moreto the uh mister Deadpan himself, Michael
Myers and the guy who's been killedway more times than even a movie should
allow for. He can breathe underwater, he can take knives in the ring

(40:35):
all the way breathing. He's justthere. Is he amphibious? Yeah,
he's ambidextrous. Yeah, yes, yes, he's ambidextrous. Aid that,
but yeah, horror movies love him, love him. Yeah, you're a
huge fan. I can tell you'vegone to ones of them at the actual
theater. That is a good question. I definitely Nightmare on Elstree, definitely
this is again, would you godun unfortunately? Wa Wait? I think

(40:57):
so that's nineteen eighty four. Yeah, you're how was it our Yeah?
You sure? Oh, I'm sure. Okay. Then I did not see
it in the theater when it cameout. I think I've seen it.
Well, even in nineteen eighty four, I wasn't old enough. Well,
how old were you? Eleven? That's perfect age for a horror movie.
Go to the movie, see nightmarnin Elm Street at eleven. Go see

(41:19):
it at nine o'clock, get homeat eleven, Okay, go to bed,
good night, good Night's sleeve.I don't want to hear it when
I saw it on accident at agesix. Why do you think I'm so
warped? Things like that happened duringmy childhood, all that horror movie stuff.
Do you really think what Dalton Schultzsays, he said it as if
it does matter. Do you reallybelieve it took away from the seriousness of

(41:42):
their preparation that they thought they werea side show. I mean, the
individual they're gonna play. They're gonnaget coach, they're gonna work hard,
they're gonna try to be prepared, they're gonna study film. They're gonna give
everything they have whether or not.Jerry Jones treats it a little bit more
like a we're the attraction. We'regonna make as much money as we can
and every which way week possible, which, of course, this is super
smart for business. Is why he'sfranchise. Not only he's been at the
forefront of turning themselves into the mostvaluable one in the NFL. Here's why

(42:07):
Jerry Jones will never not be lovedby his owners. He's made the league
more money than any owner in thelast thirty years. He's by leaps and
valley. He is the Vince McMahonof the NFL. He's a marketing guru.
He no matter what you say abouthim, and you won't call him
a winner for the rest of histenure as owner, not at the ultimate
level anyways, there's no denying that, and it's going to be his legacy.

(42:30):
It's look, those first three championships, that's not going to be his
legacy. I'm sorry. Those areJimmy Johnson's team. So let me take
you to Kansas City won this year, that won last year. We've had
some you know Philadelphia too. Ithink they all fit in this to a
certain extent, it almost seems totallynormal to hear Kelsey or Jalen Hurts or
now Mahomes or Travis Kelcey or whomeversay it was great to win this four

(42:55):
insert owners now right, you know, the Hunt family or Jeffrey Lurie in
Leslie Alexander, do you believe again, you gotta really suspend your common sense
and you're you've gotta go to totalfantasy land here in the unlikely event that
Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are hoistingthe Vince Lombardi Trophy. H Do you

(43:16):
think it's heartfelt? I think it'sgenuine when one of them, one of
the Cowboys, Michaeh Parsons, Dakor whomever, says, you know,
for all these years of trying toget here and not being able to do
it, these last several decades ofcoming up way short, it's great to
do this for Jerry. Will theysay that, I think they will.

(43:36):
I don't, Man, that's atough one. That's a I'm gonna have
to think about that one. Becauseand we got to get to our guest
at the top of the hour. But because I do think that's a fifty
to fifty. I just think thatif you're if you're thinking Jerry while you're
in that moment, then you hada closer relationship than most. You know

(43:59):
what I'm saying. He just doesn't. We'll get to that later. That's
a good come back to especially sinceI need to come back to something else
that just happened. But as promised, when we come back, ESPN Texans
Beat reporter djb Enemy joins us tostart through four o'clock hour on the eighteen

(45:05):

Wexler sent you by two lifelong Houstonsports guys named Adam Talking Your Teams series.
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are dA Team A Tower number two underway

(45:34):
here inside Toyota Center. It isthe A Team Sports Talks seven ninety x
a c here inside Toyota Center.Dan Matthews back at the ranch and US
promised our guest ESPN Texans Beat reporterDJ b Enemy joining us for a little
free agency combine and just general Texansdiscussion. Boy, what a difference a
year makes. DJ and I knowthat you're probably it's okay to say this

(45:58):
by the way, it's just usfriends. You're probably enjoying covering this team
a whole lot more than you dida year ago at this time. Yeah,
for sure. Around this time weare debating like whether they were going
to sign Jimmy Garoppolo and passed upon a quarterback in the draft, and
like wait come next year to possiblyget one of the quarterbacks. So I'm
very glad that we don't have tosearch that because nothing about that it's ever

(46:22):
fun. Well, the Texans havetaken this opportunity to bring Dalton Schultz back
on a three year extension, bringKymie Fairban back on a three year extension,
both before the free agency period opens. There are several other players that
are still become free agents. Theydid not use the franchise tag, so
I'll start there. Was it anysurprise to you that the franchise tag was

(46:43):
not used on anybody and more specificallyon John Bernard and to him specifically.
Where do you think things stand withhe and his representation and the Texans?
Yeah, no, I think regardingI wasn't surprised. I think as the
time you got close and closer anditter just didn't sound like like the market

(47:05):
that John the Gnard can possibly get. Obviously, I think it's like over
twenty per not where that where thatthat that twenty years intween one, twenty
two four, whatever that is.But it's clear that Texans probably aren't willing
to go that high because they wouldthen they would at least franchise tag him
and at least took are non exclusiveright, So like they weren't even willing

(47:28):
to take that risk in that regardof paying him having to how the cap
get hit immediately you know, youryour salary goes from like sixty something to
like a fifty forty something. Theywon't even want to take that risk to
possibly get a player back. You'regonna pick back. So it's pretty clear
I don't I don't want to staythere heading for the vorce because that's pretty
strong. But it's not necessarily it'snot just necessary, like it's like sifty

(47:52):
fifty I love, It's like cityfifty Curry back could walk right. Like
they've already kind of like talked toother possible defensive energies in case kind of
to gauge on my kid to seeif they could posibly find somebody else that
could give you similar production, right, So yeah, it's an interesting proposition

(48:15):
because this was your best pass rusherlast year, but maybe you think it
was more stematics and maybe you thinkthat you know where Anderson is gonna take
a massive leap and they could justshure up the interior defensive one. I
add more to the interior defensive line. When there's getting a guy at Christian
Wilkins, when you just draft somebodyto replaces Gnard, then you could probably
have maybe if they can get ahigher ceiling. So I think that's kind

(48:37):
of where there, you know, centering in that regard, But it's uh
me personally, I would just resignedGnard maybe because when he plays, you
want the more distrust the disruptful guysin the league. But again, like
you know, I'm not na considerI might Demko, So I can't make
that final call. Well, youyou talked about something that we kind of

(49:00):
mentioned last hour, which is continuityand how important that can be, especially
with offensive lines. You hear thata lot, But I just think across
the board, when you've started reallymaking a stark contrast as far as the
turnaround goes from the culture and everythingelse, that the Texans were just a
short time ago. You know, that's important in that vein. How much

(49:20):
do you think Demico and the typeof coach he is and the fact that
he's a you know, quote unquotedefensive guy factors into this particular decision.
That's a good question, I thinkobviously as the fact there's some some bit,
but I don't I don't assarily thinkit's like the continuity. Uh,
that's kind of little. I don'twant to say it's overblown, but think

(49:43):
about it was like last year, like they brought basically Broughten Rankins, Will
played, Cashing way More played ChristianHarris way More brought and lives up here,
and then uh, and then broughtin Jamie Warson. They basically like
five to sixtem starters at linebacker yourlast year and then went from the twenty
seven scoring defense a lot of twentyfour points per game to the eleven brank

(50:05):
scoring defense. So I don't knowtlythink continuity is that important in this regard
if you feel like you can upget a type of upgrade that can take
you to a higher heights, becauseyou know, you know, with the
whole you know, I've had discussionon a lot of people. You know,
I have some former college teams thatare texting fans and so people have,

(50:28):
you know, Fallow Texans on aRuser lens and if people talking about
this whole take on Barkley stuff, like, I'm like, okay, like,
but that doesn't necessarily make you getyou closer to beating the Buffalo Bills,
or beating up Baltimore Ravens, orbeating the Kansa City Chiefs, or
even beating the Bengals in the playoffs, right, because you know that that
is kind of the femi of croppingthat aspect. Granted, yeah, like

(50:49):
they beat the Bengals and another Uniongame, but that's another the acusing game.
We're talking about beating them, beatingteams at their best at the end
of the seaton, you know, and a running back is necessarily get you
there, But I didn't the guythat possibly Christian Wilkins, who can be
very disruptive up the middle, canreally cause havoc and he's been a Star
Wars quarter of Miami Dolphins over thepast few years. And you should draft

(51:13):
somebody. Now you're getting like aguy that's like for sure top ten at
his position, along with getting youknow, a guy that can get a
rookie cost effective contract in that regard. So I don't necessarily think continuity is
that important in terms of because thecontinuity, you know, it kind of
got you know, kind of gotyou whooped in that division around not just

(51:34):
the continuity, but like those sameguys kind of played a part in getting
you kind of like whooped against theRavens, and it's about getting closer to
them now. I think we cankeep a guy like Gnard, But I
don't necessarily think cottenuity is the drivingfactor. I think it's getting the most
talent that you could possibly have togo get to Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen,
Lamar Jackson. So that's kind ofwhere I lie on that In terms

(51:54):
of the continuity, I don't thinkit's that important. Talk with enemy ESPN
T Beat reporter, what would beyour your best guess on how things lay
out in the backfield next year?Devin singletary' is a free agents a crop
of running back free agents you mentioned. Sakuon Barkley is pretty stout. Damian
Pierce is heading into year three ofhis rookie contract and meant very little to

(52:15):
their running game last year. Andobviously the draft is upcoming. What do
you think their plans are to outfitthe running back position. That's just a
good question. They can go tworouts, right Like me personally, I
re signed Devin in the draft somebody. But you know, there's been some
reports and there's been some some buzzthat they could have just signed two running
backs. I don't think that.I don't think Damien is really much in
the future. I think the waythey use them down the stretch of last

(52:37):
year kind of like signified that hewas ready getting not touches but snaps.
So I think, you know,it kind of like I don't want to
say the book is written on Damienbecause he's always turned around, but they
are not operating like an organization atonce that is going to teacher Damien games
about to re earn that. AndI don't think they're going to sit around

(52:59):
and wait on to like hope forbeing to pop again. I think they're
kind of gonna at least really somelike legitimate viable competition across the board,
whether it be a draft pick,it'd be you know, resign out and
they want to resign motor. It'sreally gonna just come down to like what
the number is, but they wantto resign more. There's not Mortar is
going to have a crazy market, you know, and I think one is

(53:21):
a good player. But you mentionedlike with the running back market being what
it is, right Like, Ithink what could help the Texans is the
fact that there's so many good runningbacks. You want to get a real
next things, there's so many goodrunning backs available, it's going to suppress
the market, right like, teamsdon't want to pay twelve thirteen, fourteen
million dollars in open market anyway. But the fact that you have Barkley,

(53:43):
you have Handsy, you have JoshJacobs, you have I said, I
miss John J. Swift, Like, that's all of Austin Eckley. Well,
even I don't think as not good. But that's going to suppress the
market in the sense of like becausethere's just so many options that it's going
to and there's not enough teams thatare just going to uh in a sense
to make guys mark and go downa little bit in terms of how much

(54:04):
money they can get on the openmarket. So I think I think Devin
will be back as long they don'tcome with like a dumb offer, but
I do think they'll be back, and me personally, just go in the
draft like you're gonna find it.You're gonna find a running back that can
be deductive, like it's been provingtime and time and time and time again.
I'm very much on the side ofdo not play running back to the
free agency and legitimate money because oncethey go downhill, that's kind of it.

(54:30):
They can't want to show us timesof aggression at older age that kind
of hit. So me, personally, I would just draft. I mean,
I would draft somebody and re signedthem a single player, but they
don't want to bring in two guysaround the same price. I'm doing that
right because you kind of saw thatwith the Detroit lines. Granted it's a
little different. They use the firstround pick our gids, but they also

(54:50):
signed David Montgomery to give you thatkind of that that thunder enlightening. But
you know, whatever it takes toget to that, I'm I'm all for
it. Yeah, I do likethe philosophy on probably going with too last
thing for you, I'm curious, you're sure what you've been hearing and how
you're reading between the lines on things. How serious do you think Nick Casserio,

(55:12):
Jamiko the team are about reaching acontract extension with Nico Collins this offseason
before he heads into the final year, the fourth year of his rookie contract.
I think I think somewhat serious.I think this for sure. That's
not think they wait, right,I've seen a report from Diane Lusini that

(55:34):
AMNT Brown's gonna get twenty eight million. Now, granted, like a mans,
Brown is more accomplished, right, but if you wait again, his
agent is Roganhaus, his agent isthis guy, and that got tired of
heal his deal right, like youwell, one thing, we know what
you wrote about. He's going toget his guys his money, their money.
So the longer you wait, becauseunless people gets hurt, there's no

(55:58):
way he doesn't replicate what he didlast year. Like I know, there's
been some talking on like Texas Twitterthat Nico isn't the one, he's one
hundred and fifty percent the one.I don't know where people get this notion
that like it was a flu,he wasn't a one, Like he's most
definitely le one. He's not,if you want to say Tanks the one.
Cool, but it's like he takinga one d to Nico's one a

(56:20):
like seeing. We saw what Nicodid with CJ when there was no taking,
and he went absolutely crazy. Hewent for a buck ninety twice against
the Colts with the season on theline and against the Broncos, who are
red hot and had been limiting guysleft and right because a couple of weeks
prior to going against Niko, theBroncos completely raced Stephan Diggs on Monday Night

(56:45):
Football. So it's you know,Niko is a number one wide receiver.
I think the soon they can getsomething done, the better because the longer
you wait, the price is onlygoing to go up. Because there's no
reason to expect that Niko isn't goingto be able to get you thirteen hundred
ard. He basically got thirteen hundredyards in fifteen games and tools that we
played with case Keenum where he basicallydidn't do anything. But that's because no

(57:06):
Wady did anything on those offenses thosegames. So yeah, nah, I'm
yeah, no, I'm I'm I'mtotally on board with extending Nico get that
done sooner than later, because thelonger you wait, the more is going
to go up. I mean,I don't know, if the Texans want
to be in a position where they'repaying me to a thirty million dollars,

(57:27):
thirty million dollars at average salary becausehe won't make thirty minutes per year,
but he'll make that the average, you know, could be that the longer
you wait, And yeah, Ithink so. I think they're cognited of
that, and I expect their talksto start, especially in the offseason now
if if they want to wait, you know, that's on them. It's
only gonna cost them more. Andthen now you know, if you don't

(57:50):
want to pay that, then you'regoing to have to find his replacement,
which is only going to hurt Teaser. It's a lot of what our listeners
have heard me saying. I'll haveto say that right here that I think
I don't need to see more fromNico. I know what Nico has I
think last year is enough for meto say that's what he's going to be
in this offense with this quarterback. And I'm totally on board with what you
just said there in the analysis ofwhat they should do instead of waiting to

(58:10):
do a DJ really appreciate the timelong time coming should have had you on
long ago, and I hope todo heads on us soon. No ple,
no problem, all right, DJBNme here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
We will continue with our signature segment. We're gonna bit steal on a
Wednesday edition of the program live fromToyota Center. But now before we tell

(58:31):
you guys about how to get yourvision at twenty twenty and take advantage of
savings that have only been offered wellonce every four years. You know why
because it's a leap year. Now, the leap day is already coming gone,
but the leap year savings at BerkeleyI Center continue here in the month
of March. In fact, theylove leap years so much they're offering those

(58:52):
savings that only come around once everyfour years. So unless you want to
wait another four years for twenty twenty, vision leap into Lacy this month at
Berkeley Center with their leap year Lasikcelebration. It was actually talking to somebody
earlier today that was asking me aboutit, like, hey, you just
had LASIK done, right, I'mlike, well, if you'd be if
you mean just had it done, you mean two thousand and eight, then

(59:12):
sure that's when I had it done. But I've been reaping the benefits ever
since. Life changing for the betterdecision that I would recommend to anybody who's
even remotely on the fence, butonly if you go to Berkeleyy Center.
You can get the details on theirLasik leap year savings at their website b
e clask dot com. That's bEclasik dot com. Or give them a

(59:32):
call it's seven one three five twosix eyes seven one three five two six
e y E s and tell themMadam Clanton from Sports Talk seven ninety sent
you over to Berkeley Center. Theunauthorized Houston sports chipdown continues, because every
time you say something that's not true, you're gonna get hit. We now
returned to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexworth, the A team on Sports Talk seven

(59:57):
ninety eight a little help over thehump with some Wednesday BS bit stealing with
the bit stealers, better known asI Gotta take the sitcom a whole bunch
of it. You stole my moves. You never know what the wheel is
gonna tell you on signature segment timeon a Wednesday when it's bit stealing time.

(01:00:21):
But I have a gut feeling I'vegot a hunch that on a day
where empty and r V had toput in a full day's work, I
expected unexpectedly they were very upset aboutit, and they are the king of
bits that there's a reasonably good chancethat wheel is going to land on something
from the mt show. So let'sfind out. Audience, be quiet.

(01:00:46):
That's my favorite thing is Pat stagedoes rst ln E you know I'm in
Toomson. He took this to heartlast night. Here I got time for
that discount. Dennis Rodman tripping meas I'm trying to run up the floor.

(01:01:07):
He said, shut your bum assup. Man in his right,
in his face, right man, just like that, and then they got
double text. So we'll talk bythe way real quick. Yes, did
you think the referee handled that situationappropriately or were you with Ryan Hollins,
who on the broadcast said he shouldbe out right Now that's a cheap shot.
Well, we can go to thetape that is literally when they put

(01:01:29):
the rep because the action we'll getto that a little bit. But when
the when the action goes down theother end of the court, you don't
always see what happened behind the action. And all that was so the first
replay we saw, it was soclear that he tripped him intentionally. So
I immediately said, oh, oh, they're gonna look at this. They're
gona see he tripped him. They'regonna eject him now. They didn't have
to give him a flagrant two, which would have brought the ejection, but

(01:01:49):
I agreed with Ryan. I thoughthe would and should have been ejected.
But they didn't handle it badly.Nobody left their benches. Everybody else took
care of it. There was noescalation, and they went on and played
their basketball, just like they haveeach of the three games in a row
where Cam Whitmore as A and DevinBooker got together, and then Thompson in
this game you had I'll be gettingkicked out of a game. There's lots

(01:02:12):
of good stuff. So actually,I think the Rockets they don't have any
time for people treating them like theirkids, treating them like they don't belong,
treating them like their last year's teamor the year before or the year
before, because they aren't. Sothey're basically saying to everybody who mouths off
to them, shut the old bumbass up. By the way, man,

(01:02:36):
there you go. The two guysout here right now working on their
game. I'm in Thompson's draining everythree he's taken, and Cam Whitmore is
dunking on some pork kid. Whyaren't you looking at the other end of
the court where the former Rocket hasreturned to get shots up? They're playing
the Clippers today. Why you're doingthis to the fans. Of course they
know who's out there getting up shotsbefore the Clippers Rockets game. That's Daniel
Tice. It doesn't look like him. Well he's making shots. Oh that's

(01:03:01):
why. Now I get it.Okay, So anybody anyway, Dan was
going to start this, Well wealready did, right, but you can
go down, Go ahead, Dan. Yeah. So this weekend I fly
to New Mexico and I see there'sa nice preview magazine on the news stand
at the airport we were flying outof I said, all right, what
the hell, I'll go buy itBaseball preview for the season. I probably

(01:03:22):
should have opened it up before buyingthe magazine, because I saw the abominable
dross that they had written about theAl West preview where they had the team
that has played in seven straight alcs'sand so many World Series in between somehow
taking a significant step back this seasonand finishing third behind your division winner the

(01:03:43):
Mariners, which I could maybe ridewith you on that for their pitching staff,
but then also to the Rangers aswell, which can we all be
honest here, and I understand thatthis is going to come off as incredibly
homerish, can we not agree thatthe Rangers played out of their minds in
the postseason last year and what theydid is not sustainable. So a team
that has Jose al Tuve back, still has Alex Bregman here, still has

(01:04:06):
Jordan Alvarez, still has Kyle Tuckeron their team, and also too is
going to play yinor Diaz on adaily basis, should have an improved Jeremy
Pania this season, Chas McCormick isan everyday player, and also to a
rotation that even though probably for acouple of starts they're not going to have
Justin Berlander, but still pretty loadedthere. And oh yeah, they published

(01:04:27):
the magazine of course before Josh Haterwas an astro, so I don't know
necessarily in their minds how much itwould have flipped it. But I'm just
so tired of like lazy national narrativesof who. Well, soon enough,
I'm gonna be right, so tounnamed magazine, anybody get ta well now
wrote it opens the door for meto use what Dan said and drop another.

(01:04:48):
Ain't nobody got time for that?Nobody on the publishers of preview magazines
in twenty twenty four, No offensethe industry that we're in. But Dan
even hold everybody the reason why it'snot the complete team you're previewing, Like
when when do you want? Youcan't write the preview magazine until you know
what their season might be like,Like, you're not going to be on

(01:05:10):
the team if they wrote it beforeJosh Hater was an astro, it has
now become unnecessary reading. I mean, I love we have we have digital
media. We can be up todate immediately. That was your first mistake
there, Dan, You bought amagazine with the physical papers that you like,
turned on the pages, and whatnext thing he's going to say?

(01:05:31):
When I got on that flight,I really the guy sitting next to me,
Ain't nobody got time for that?He brought a newspaper on the flight,
and the crinkling and crackling of himreading the fashion section and the lifestyle
section. I just couldn't I couldn'tget any shot. The other guy on
the other side of me said thatwhen I land, I needed to just
make balls with you know, withmy toes, make fists with my toes,
and that'll take the edge off. What about when you land, all

(01:05:53):
the people around you went up,man, What about when you land and
everybody stay seated, but the idiotsthat get up and stand there for no
reason, who aren't going anywhere forthe next thirty minutes. There's enough trip
them them, usually enough space betweenme and the those people if it's not

(01:06:13):
one of the two other people sittingwith me in my row. And I
know you're kind of don't like thepeople behind you because when they get up,
they inevitably bang into your seat.I don't like the people in front
of you or to the side ofme. But an airplane flight and airport
to visit is nothing but this wholesegment. Everything about it, it's just
obnoxious, nauseating. It smells,it's too hot, especially in Houston.

(01:06:39):
Turn the air conditioning on that tubethat we have to fly in for the
next several hours. How about haveit just stank in there before you ever
even take off. Yeah, I'vehad a real line of in flight farterers
near me. What. Yeah,it's it's been a really bad streak for
me. But how about just airlineseats in general. Nobody got it.
They need to be easily cleanable us. They're made out of that awesome material

(01:07:01):
that's basically cardboard. It works.Hey, if you guys land in a
body of water, that becomes yourfloatation. I just want to get to
point A. From point A topoint B, whatever else I have to
deal with, I'm willing to do, so just get me there. I
could deal without the back pain inthe knee pain, well, the knee
pains for not having enough room betweenwhere your knee is and the seat in

(01:07:25):
front of you so you keep bangingon it. But that's neither here nor
there. As if we would stealanother bit from Matt Thomas, all right,
when we come back, we're goingto fill you in on getting familiar
with someone. I'll explain that.We will also get you filled in on
some of the odds for some ofthe biggest free agents to come the Texans
way. And oh, by theway, nickelback tickets. That is straight

(01:07:49):
ahead here on the a team SportsTalk seven ninety. But now before we
tell you guys about Kushata Casino Resort, March is one lucky month. You
know everything's going on. But incase you don't, I'm gonna tell you
now. I saw this coming froma long ways away because we found out
about it now. I don't knowhow. I'm not gonna speak for WEX,
but I am ecstatic about this SugarRay live in concert Saturday, March

(01:08:11):
twenty third. That's all I haveto say. That could be the end
of the library right there, andI will have done you a service by
telling you the Sugar Ray is comingto Kushata Casino Resort March twenty third,
and you should be there right So, in other words, he's really trying
to stress you do not plan onbeing there March twenty fourth or later when
it's over. Yes, okay,I see what you did there. Just

(01:08:32):
check. But every morning I thinkabout going to that show. Wow,
what's another one. Let's see SugarRay every morning. You don't have to
fly. Yeah, I probably couldhave done that. It's such an easy
drive. You don't have to flyto get to Kushata. It's right there
in Kider Louisiana. We made thatdrive and we'll make it again a very
soon, big tournament with basketball andcollegiance coming your way soon, So time

(01:08:55):
to hit the rest sports book planningyour escape to Louisiana. Enjoyed the number
one golf course in the state. To Louisiana, there's fantastic Cajun cuisine and
of course the massive gaming floor, slots, table games, tremendous poker room,
everything you'd want out of your casinoresort resort style pool as well.
All at Kushata Casino Resort dot comfor all the info you need. I'll
make those plans to get to cusha. You don't have to be a pip

(01:09:19):
to get your lady to work atyour command, mister Bunbee, that's right,
just asks you just my device toplay sports Talk seven to ninety on
I Heart Radio. So there areodds out and I know we keep talking
about this guy. I know hekeeps getting tied to the Houston Texans in
some way, shape or form. But if DraftKings sports Book says it's minus

(01:09:41):
two hundred the Saquon Barkley lands here, are you starting to feel at least
better than average? It could happenat all. Wet blanket on that one,
Big John, and that's not wet. That's like you took a bucket
of water and just absolutely soaked somebodywith it. Let's really take where the
Texans are and extrapolate that into theodds. Players want to play where they
can win and get money. Texanshave space, Texans can win. If

(01:10:04):
you're a good player on the market, arguably the best player at your position
on the market, we're probably gonnahear reports that you're interested in them,
and they're probably also true. Themain reason why we're getting the reports,
but it's also why more people aregoing to buy into it. I think
it's pretty I think most people believeBarkley is the best running back available.
I think people well, they probablyChristian Wilkins is moregettable, but maybe Chris

(01:10:28):
Jones than Christian Wilkins are the toptwo players out there. Wilkins a little
bit younger. Maybe there is afeeling there, but these are among the
best players of their position. They'rebreak the bank type guys. They're your
target and free agency, You're willingto spend crazy money because you know how
much better your team will be atthat position. And both Barkley and Wilkins
have been linked to the Texans aboutbeing interested in joining the team, about

(01:10:49):
having linked up with a player orcommunicated with this. There's a reason why
they're doing that. So I believeit, but I wouldn't put it.
I don't know that I believe.Oh yeah, honestly, I don't even
believe Barkley's leaving New York for sure. Oh come on, not because they're
going to pay him, but becausewho is Like if with this many running

(01:11:13):
backs out there, are they pittingeach other against each other, like,
oh my god, we have togo get him, They're all thinking the
opposite. Okay, I don't getBarkley, I'll get Jacobs. Okay,
I don't get Jacobs, I'll getSwift. Okay, I don't get Swift.
I mean, on down the line, I think teams are going to
be hesitant to be the team thatspends on any of these players. And
just to Devin Singletary, and Idon't know what the odds are for him

(01:11:34):
to return to the Texans because he'sa little bit further down the national thought
to us and to fans here inHouston, Texans fans, they're like man,
Devin Singletary saved their season in thebackfield. Devin Singletary was awesome last
year. Devin Singletary basically had theexact same season he's had for three years
now. His last two seasons inBuffalo were exactly the same production wise.

(01:11:58):
He was splitting time there with playersthey wanted to play over him, but
he produced in almost the exact samemanner. Actually, his yards per carrier
were less here in Houston they werethe last two years in Buffalo, but
I think a part of that isdue to the fact that their best runner
was always on the field with him. He plays quarterback for the Bills.
His name is Josh Allen, soit's a little bit easier to be less
concentrated on and it's just different, different dynamic to how they run the football.

(01:12:24):
But I don't even know what kindof raise he's going to get.
He's a free agent. You'll probablyget some up more. I don't think
he's going to get much more atall. I think the Texans could easily
be just bringing him back on avery moderate race, just because again,
who are these teams that are togo out there and do it? And
we haven't brought this name up nearlyenough, because I think the thought of
who he is doesn't usually match withanybody, because nobody plays this way anymore.

(01:12:46):
But Derek Henry's going to be goodfor somebody next year. Dereck Henry
can still play. No team wantshim carrying the ball thirty times a game,
Okay, So is Dereck Henry gonnaall of a sudden become less effective
if you give him eighteen to twentytwo carre's a game, if you pay
him far less than what he wasmaking there, And I will say,
you know, we've seen it firsthand. There are some games where handoff Henry,

(01:13:09):
handoff Henry, handoff Henry, andtwenty handoffs into the game, he's
done nothing, and then he runsfor thirty yards, and then he runs
for another thirty yards and by theend of the day, And we've seen
him have some monster games. Thispast year, the Texans dominated him.
He had among the worst games ofhis career against them. Defy Camp joined

(01:13:30):
him. So I don't want peopleto look at that and say, no,
he's he's over the hill. He'spassed his prime. He can't play
like he's definitely passed his prime. But he can in the red zone wherever.
Like he ran behind a miserable linelast year. I don't the line
here's better than that. I'm notputting him on the Texans, but I
do think he's somebody that's going tobe good for whatever team signs it.

(01:13:54):
And again, this the marketplace, the group of players that are available is
incredible and it kind of points tothe mark. We didn't mention Tony Pollich's
name today yet, but all theseguys are gonna most likely be on new
teams next year. A six orseven number one running backs were guys that
have had twenty carries a game inthe recent past. It just seems like

(01:14:15):
yesterday we were talking about Zeke withthe Cowboys and now it's just that that's
the one thing that keeps standing outto me when we talk about these big
name and big dollar free agent runningbacks. How long are they really going
to be elite level guys, especiallybecause if you have reached free agency,
then there's a lot already on theodometer, there's a lot of tread off

(01:14:38):
the tire. Whatever analogy you wantto use, it applies to all of
them in some way, shape orform, some more than others. In
the case of Henry for example. But man, it's something to keep in
mind, and it makes me alittle bit leery. Although if you were
to ask me right now, heyyou want do you want Sakuon Barkley on
the Texans next year? I'd behard pressed to say no. I mean,

(01:15:00):
I'm the very same weather. There'sjust so much there that's good that
you can even take the well,he only played thirteen games for you,
Well, what if he played gamesin December and January? Are you good
with that? Is that alright withyou? What if you missed the game
of November two in October is justinBerlinstem You'll still manage to go ten and
seven and win the division? Andhe's fine now, he's healthy, now
he's ready to go. Now,yeah, I bet you you will take

(01:15:20):
it. Only two running backs, only three running backs have carried the ball
more than nine hundred times since twentytwenty last three seasons. Taylor's at nine
to twenty five, Josh Jacobs isat one thy sixty three, Dereck Henry's
at twelve hundred and twenty six. What a monster, What an absolute specimen.
All right, we are going towind down the four o'clock hour next

(01:15:41):
coming up with getting reacquainted. Let'sput it that way. We'll explain when
we come back football at five rightaround the corner after that. On a
Wednesday edition of The Eight Team Liveinside Toyota Center, back to Adam Clinton
and Adam Wexler. Now here's Adam. No, no, the other Adam
on second, Todd No Adam, you take it? No, no,

(01:16:02):
no, no, Adam. Waitwait Adam. Guys, guys, the
eight Team rolling along here on SportsTalk seven ninety inside Toyota Center. Rockets
and Clippers getting underway in a matterof hours. Kawhi Leonard is on the
floor right now, warming up.He's a fun guy, he is.
Why did he come out wearing somethingthat is completely the opposite of every other

(01:16:26):
Clipper that's been on the floor. They're all blues. Well, they're all
like yeah, they're all wearing likeuh well, both teams actually are wearing
primarily black tops and shorts. They'reboth going icon addition unis tonight. Yeah.
Yeah. The Rockets all have thered ones on. No, yes,
the red ones the statement are blockand the Clippers will have their I
guess is it what like Kawi Islipwearing more so it's that color. Ok

(01:16:50):
So maybe he's the one that's onbrand and everyone else screwed up, I
guess. Anyway, speaking of theNBA, we're standing here a while back.
I'm standing, you're sitting, tobe fair, and I see uh
Mike Frittello coming up the stairs, and I'm like, I love Mike Fritello,
the bizarre, the guy that wasalways uh standing in pertinent moments in

(01:17:14):
NBA history alongside Marv all these years. And of course the first thing that
comes to mind isn't a seminal callhe was a part of. It's not
any of the teams he coached tovarying degrees of success over the years.
Yeah, he's a Lifetime Achievement Awardwinner as a coach. He's a Coach
of the Year as a coach. He's won six hundred and sixty seven games.

(01:17:36):
He's got a great, great headcoach New Jersey accent. He is
basically my height. He basically youguys look alike. For being honest,
he looks like your dad. Imean he really could be if WEX and
him stood side by side, andI've met your dad, So I'm not
this isn't any sort of commentary onhis appearance. But this is just if

(01:17:56):
you were to stand Adam Wexler andtoday's Mike Fortello side by side and say,
hey, this is Adam Wesler's dad, Mike Fratello. He was as
illegitimate child years ago, people wouldbe like, I good buye that.
I could buy that story. Hisage would match up with that. It
would's definitely feasible. So speaking ofwhich he's been, he's got you know,
a lot under his belt as anNBA figure, if you will,

(01:18:21):
And all of that said, thefirst thing that came to mind was not
any of that. When I seeMike Frotello, I think of this exchange
with Iron Eagle. Could I makeone point? Sure came. I just
want to say that earlier you hada very patronizing tone towards me. I
fully understand what a slip screen is. I've been doing the NBA for eighteen

(01:18:43):
years, but the way you presentedit initially was gobblygook. So like the
audience, I wanted you to comeback and explain yourself, and you then
just took a firing line on me. Yeah, and it was uncalled for.
I don't think so, That's exactlywhat happened. Oval he sends it

(01:19:04):
a time, did second game ofa back to backhill? Did it like
disturb you? Else? That wastwo hours with you, which is probably
the reason why I've had enough tonight. Timeout. Just everything about that is

(01:19:26):
so legendary. This is like thatwould be akin to us sitting side by
side during our show, which wouldbe continuing after this exchange, speaking to
each other like that, feeling thatway. And I gotta admit Ian is
such a like he's really good. He's got a lot of that were just
even in an exchange like that,it was never raised voice. It was

(01:19:48):
very measured, it was eloquent,it was well spoken, he didn't stumble
all. None of that would applyto a fight you and I would have
on the air. I'd be yellingat you. And again all he said
to get out of it was timeouttime. There wasn't a mic rop a
headset, throw a door slam, but you can running out of the room
anything. He's big mad as theysay, he was very big man.
He was like, and you thentook a firing line at me and it

(01:20:10):
was uncalled for. So why didyou bring this up? Because I saw
Mike walking up the stairs, andif any of you were listening about an
hour ago, I just threw myheadset down. I was like, I
got to talk to Mike Fortello.Let we just continue to see TV spot
for uh the Fox Sports wets broadcast. All the visiting TV is to our
immediate right, mm hmm. Ididn't even know he was doing that for
the Clippers. He does games forseveral different teams. Actually, I thought

(01:20:32):
he was based in Cleveland. Still, for some reason, I believe he's
still with that Fox outlet as wellas a well, I had never met
him, and you know, thesetypes of figures just walked through. I
mean, Walt Clyde Frasier comes throughher all times. Mike breens here,
there's last night, Sean Ellie wasstanding here. Well that's a problem miracle.

(01:20:54):
Uh. I just I had nevertalked to him, met him,
and I've been a fan for along time and I didn't fanboy or anything.
I just walked up to him.I said, hey, Mike,
I got to tell you something whenyou get a chance. So whenever he
was done with his conversation, hewas about to walk back down the stairs,
and he goes, I'm on theair. At that point, he
goes, did you need something? You know? In his accident, he's
kind of like David Stern light andso I just I threw my headsets down.

(01:21:15):
I said, hey, I'm abig fan of yours, but my
favorite, one of my favorite YouTubevideos of all time is your exchange with
Iron Eagle. And he started laughingthe same way he does in that video.
I don't think so think so hegoes, you know a lot of
people think that was scripted. Itwas not. I make to one point
was sure, Gobblygook drops in theway he has no idea it's coming too,

(01:21:40):
So his reaction is what I don'tthink. But the very first part
of it played again, Danny goes, can I just make a playing record
again? Sure? Could I makeone point? Sure? I just want
to say that earlier you had avery patronizing tone towards me. I fully
understand what a slip screen is.I've been doing the NBA for eighteen years,

(01:22:02):
but the way you presented it initiallywas gobbly Kook. You know what's
best about that? I forgot thebest part. I say to him,
that YouTube video is one of myfavorites and he goes slip screen. It's
the first thing out of his mouth. Just a legend. He's like the
nicest guy, he really is.So I just had to share our interaction

(01:22:25):
with with you guys out there becauseMike Fritello will be in the house tonight,
the Czar, as Marv Albert usedto call him, which, by
the way, what's Marv up tothese days? Uh? Do not know.
I'd really like to catch up withhim. Maybe you can ask one
of his still broadcasting brothers. Howmany are there, Steve and Al?

(01:22:45):
I forgot he had two? IsKenny not one of his brothers Kenny Kennys
three? I'm not sure that allfour of these guys are bros, but
they're all family members. Though Isaw Kenny trying to throw a football once.
It was not pretty. Yah,you know that's why he does what
he does. Oh, he's gotto have a like a Warren Moon spiral.
No, no, but I thinkyou kind of know your limitations.

(01:23:08):
Maybe just underhand it back, youknow, just toss it back. Can
I take a point? I've beenon the sidelines through for many, many
many Texans practices, training camp andotherwise and footballs every once in a while
end up in the media area.I've had my hands on him a few
times. I have retrieved them andsent them back into the field of play.
Every single time it has been anunderhanded throw. That way, you're

(01:23:30):
not embarrassing yourself or your family. The same way you get the ball back
to the referee from the sideline,or from the referee to the sideline during
your game. They never throw itoverhand. They get they curl it and
throw a little underhand spiral. That'show I do it. Yeah, No's
that's the way to go in allsettings, especially because you're not generally having
to throw it that far. Now, now, I did throw the ball

(01:23:51):
around pretty good at this last season'smedia game. Were you the only representative
of seven to ninety? Aaron willsAnd was also there? Okay? But
were you two the only two representativesof seven ninety? Stan Norfleet was there?
Okay? Were you three the onlythree representatives of seven ninety? La

(01:24:11):
was there? Lala was not there? Okay? Because he plays the our
resident quarterback was not there. Therehave been some pretty awesome quarterbacks over the
years play in that game. AndreWhre has played in that game that's not
fair. Giff Nielsen has played inthat game. We got the Heisman.
You guys can figure out who youwant at quarterback on your team. I
believe our quarterback this this past yearwas Vanilla Truell. By the way,

(01:24:32):
if that exchange had ever beengun betweenus and I said can I make a
point? Your response would not besure can It'd be I don't have a
choice. I'm not going anywhere forthe next hour and four minutes. A
few minutes ago, when you weretalking about the Texan salary cap, you
used a very condescending tone with me, and I don't appreciate it. Could

(01:24:55):
I make one point? So?And then you then took a firing line
at me. Man, you're ina bad mood. Rode in together.
It's an hour in the car withyou two. It's just the best time
out. And I and Eagles thebest. I Egle really is good at
what he does. All right, five o'clock hour coming up next. It

(01:25:17):
will begin with our football at five. Conversation Now before I tell you guys
about Oh, I'm so glad tobe telling you about classic elite Chevy Sugarland.
You know why, because I wasover there for a large part of
the morning, and I'm gonna beover there tomorrow morning. I'm gonna drop
off Junior at school, and thenI'm gonna head on over to Classic Elite
Chevy sugar Land. Right there atHighway fifty nine Highway ninety, I'm getting

(01:25:39):
into the Midnight edition of the ChevyZR two Silverado. Let me just say
this as eloquently as possible. Holycrap, this is an amazing truck.
I cannot wait to drive this thingaround. I can't wait to put WEX
in it. We're gonna listen toMetallica at just on godly levels of decibels,
and it's gonna be a great timehad by all. You can get

(01:25:59):
your yourself into one right now.Get my guy Lloyd or Zach in the
finance office or anybody else that youknow. You ask for Jeff and Tiffany
Sebastian, the owners ask for them. But if you want to get into
a Chevy Silverado, if you wantto get into a Chevy of any kind,
there's not one, but two locationsto serve you. Classic Elite Chevy
Sugarland and Classic Elite Chevy Highway Six. That Highway six location open for your

(01:26:21):
convenience every single Sunday. But theGM dealer of the Year thirteen consecutive years
is the one I'll be heading intotomorrow morning, Classic Elite Chevy Sugarland.
If you happen to be in thearea, If you're in the market and
you're in there, say hi,I'll be there. I'll be right there
at Lloyd's desk, and then Iwill be driving off the lot in that
twenty twenty four Midnight Edition Chevy SilveradoZR two. Looking forward to it,

(01:26:46):
and don't forget when you purchase newvehicle from them, you're getting a lifetime
engine guarantee, lifetime of car washes, and two years of free maintenance.
Tell the Madam Clanton from Sports Talkseven ninety sence you in to Classic Elite
Chevy Sugarland or Classic Elite Chevy Highwaysix two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adham
talking your teams Adam Clinton and AdamWexler, or the A team A.

(01:27:16):
You're got a bustle football five o'clockSomeway five o'clock football. Professional football in
America is a special game. Youare big too sensitive right now, I
am not I forgot about that part. That's the other part that I like,

(01:27:40):
we're sharing with a member of themedia who actually had never heard that
clip before right now, and it'sjust the long time voice of Houston Rockets
basketball. That's right. Keep finishingthe sentence, Adrian Shoppery. There you
go, how love Adrian? Timeout? I did not all right ball
at five. We did catch upwith ESPN Texans beat reporter DJ b Enemy

(01:28:04):
about an hour ago to talk aboutthe earth shattering news that Kayami Fairbarn is
not going anywhere. Nick Cassio lockingup his kicker, kicker locked up,
tight end kick locked up over thelast two days, opportunity to potentially do
that with others. Dalton Schultz. The money that he got, while it
did alarm some people, kind ofputs him right in line aav with where

(01:28:26):
he fits among ranked tight ends.Do you think her to Nick and say,
hey, do you think you overpaidfor Dalton Schultz? And he goes,
I did not. He would probablyanswer in a very similar man.
Kaymi is in the same boat.He is one of now the highest one
of the top five highest paid kickers, and based on his results, he's
been performing like one of the topkickers, and next year someone will get

(01:28:48):
more money. In the next year, someone will get more money, and
then his contract will run out andwe'll see what they do then. So
it's of no consequence to me.The replacement either would have been just flat
out almost likely would have been. You can take a chance on a draft
pick any given year. There wasn'treally one out there this year, so
I don't have any issue with it. It's definitely what I would have advocated
for looking at their free agents, looking at their cap and looking at their

(01:29:10):
situation there. And if you havea kicker that's a rookie not making a
whole lot of money, second orthird year guy, you're hoping he's good,
well your team's probably not good. And it's okay. It's not the
end of the world if he misseskicks the Texans, for them, it
is, it matters. Those pointsare going to matter. And I don't
know how it's gonna impact the kickinggame in other ways, because we were
talking about the kicking rule the otherday. But we shall see no other

(01:29:32):
significant news from this team. Idon't think they're gonna make that. Probably
have two or three moves they couldmake before the league year begins, whether
or not they need to be postJune first cuts or not. There's some
veteran players we're seeing that around theleague. Jordan Poyer's name probably stands out
to many as a player that waslet go Varius Williams or earlier this week

(01:29:54):
by the Jaguars. Two secondary players. Poyer safety, Williams a cornerback.
These are play that can provide caprelief to their teams. Are players that,
if they're not extended, are goingto see themselves become available. And
we're going to see a few moreof those before we get to some next
weeks. Thirteenth eleventh is the dayyou can start legal tampering, and the

(01:30:16):
thirteenth the new year league year startsand the free agent period begins. A
friends over at PFFFF shrouded out theirannual list. They're doing it throughout the
week of the top one hundred andone players in the NFL. OH I
forget I always, I love doingthis. They haven't reached the top their

(01:30:38):
sixty players in sixty one players inhow often are they released every day?
Twenty players, So by the endof the week they'll have one through forty
to go with the already released sixtythrough one oh one. So my first
question is, in players ranked fortyone through one oh one who have been
released, will we find CJ.Stroud's name in that group? What are

(01:31:01):
the numbers again? Forty one throughone, one oh one, o one
on one. Sorry, they haven'treleased one through forty. Boy, that's
all NFL players, all NFL players. I still gotta think he's higher.
So you think he's in the topforty Yeah, don't you? Well?
Casey disagrees, Casey caves some definitelydisagrees. Uh. Tua is among the

(01:31:26):
quarterbacks listed. He's in the forties. Tua came in at forty four,
in number forty four. Matt Stafford, who's in this group? He came
in at number fifty eight. JalenHurts came in at seventy two. Jalen
Hurts, Ah, he's hurt.Jared A. Golf came in at eighty
three. Jordan Love came in ateighty nine. Oh my gosh, they're

(01:31:47):
gonna do this, aren't they? And C. J. Stroud is in
fact ranked between forty one and oneoh one. Who is the idiot that
had him thirty second last year? He's one hundred out of the entire NFL,
he's the one hundredth best player. And again PFF's player evaluations is where

(01:32:08):
sus this comes from. So Ithought you were gonna say it's sus because
it is. I only said LoveGolf, Herd, Stafford, Tua.
That's five quarterbacks better than him.I didn't say Purdy, Mahomes, Jackson,
Prescott, Burrough, and Prescott.I guess is if he but not
off of his numbers last year, they're all gonna be ahead of him.
That means he's outside the top tenevaluated quarterbacks for his rookie season for PFF.

(01:32:32):
For PFF, which doesn't matter andis actually bunk now even more so
than before this segment began. Theysuck. Now seriously, you're gonna put
that first group again? Well,I meant I just mentioned Darius Williams of
that last though. These are playersthat just got let go. He's ninety
third, he's available to anybody thatwants him. But he's better than CJ.
But he's better than CJ according tothe idiots at PFF. This is

(01:32:57):
just we're just evaluating. Now hereare numbers too hard? The machine spits
out. It's not too harsh ofa word. If it's true, Stroud
surpassed all expectations of his first season. He was incredibly accurate and efficient,
and did some of his best workunder pressure, an area that was not
always the strength of his in college. Texans on the list, there are
quite a few, all ahead ofCJ at one hundred. Yeah, he

(01:33:21):
was the best player on the Texans. Go on their list, I would
be, I will. It's probablyNico Collins. I'm asking you. I
told the best player on the TexansCJ. Oh. Okay, so you're
not an idiot, is what you'resaying. Yeah, good for you,
man, congrats on not being anidiot. These people don't get that designation
though. Free agent Blake Cashman eightytwo, eighty two ahead of CJ.

(01:33:45):
Top pick from two years ago,Derek Stingley junior seventy six, didn't even
play the whole season. Laromie Tunsel, he's fifty fifth. He just got
another false start. He just playedin the Pro Bowl games. Oh good,
so did CJ. Who's ranked onehundred. Just don't don't get too
worked up. These things mean nothingbecause he's gonna go out there for the

(01:34:10):
second con Say, hey, JaredGoff out play expectations each other. Expectations
are for him to play almost aswell as ten others. Was he awesome?
Jared Goff? He played more roundsthan CJ did, so he was
better. He played in the conferencetitle game, so the Texans would have
been there with Jared Goff at quarterback. They probably would have scored thirty five
points against Baltimore instead of ten rightand won the game by one. Well,

(01:34:31):
according to Pff, not to us. We're not idiots. It doesn't
say that in there anymore. Butit's it is it is, it is,
it is in for I'm gonna go. It is not it is not
Jared Goff. He had a strangecollapse. Were talking, by the way,
it is not just whatever you say, and I disagree with we need

(01:34:53):
to go to break, we donot. It's time for a break.
We do not. We have aminute and a half left and you are
being very patronizing to me right now, and it's gobl. I cannot tell
you how many times I want tosay that moving forwards time out. It's
just, oh man, I don'tthink people really appreciate it as much as
they need to, you know,Adrian just heard it for the first time.

(01:35:14):
He definitely does, but that's becausehe does this for a living.
It's just it was all on theair and not scripted, just part of
the game broadcast. I'm sure Mattand I will do much of the same
here tonight. A hundred that iswho wrote it. There's got to be
an individual that wrote the article,so I can find their Twitter account and
be rate them publicly. It's probablya staff article. It is not.
It's an individual. Just the numbers. Brother, I want to know who

(01:35:38):
it is. I want their Twitterhandle, and I want it now because
it's gobblygook what they wrote about cJ. Stroud. Could I make one
point? Sure can? Sure can? So we can use Like I said,
all of these are good for radio. Yeah, you like, I'll
give I'll make some all five minuteson something that's stupid, You'll say,
Can I make one point? Iwant to if if Bobian's listening, I

(01:35:59):
want that all up in a promofor the show. I can't get enough
of that exchange. In fact,I don't watch it enough. It's kind
of like the OJ documentary. Ionly watch it once a year. I
need to watch it more every year. But I need to hear that more
and more with each day by dayby day, I need to I need
to hear it more. All right, when we come back, final segment
of our program as we know it, before we get set to transition into

(01:36:23):
Rockets pregame coverage Rockets and Clippers. Here tonight on the Toyota Center floor.
Is there James Harden signing yet?Have you seen him? Have you seen
the beard? Have you seen him? Have you seen the fat guy that
left? Have you seen him?James Harden has not yet begun his process.
S Timothy Harden hearing for tonight's game, not gonna come out and hit
every single shot he takes? Likedid you see my little homage to him
on his return to Houston in mypost earlier today? No, you remember

(01:36:46):
when he said it's it's crazy andit's not gonna work and we don't have
enough talent. You remember that night? Yes, I took that video,
which of course I still had,and I instead of getting up from his
chair and walking out of the room, Uh huh, since he's returning to
Houston tonight, you reversed it.I had him coming back into the room
and sitting at the podium, andyou know what, I would call that
scary hours. That's why I wouldrefer to that, is as that's what

(01:37:10):
Iron Eagle was referring to, whateverMike Frottello did to him scary hours.
He didn't like that very much. All right, So when we come back,
we will get to some of thethings we have not gotten to you
on the program today. We callit in case you missed it, and
it's next. But not before wetell you, guys about the best way
to get rid of your joint pain. Think of Think of your joint pain
and your knees, your hips, your shoulders, or your back. Think

(01:37:31):
of that that the same way IronEagle was thinking of Mike Frattello during that
during that segment that he disagreed with. It's just that annoying pain in your
whatever fill in the blank if it'sjoint pain. Do you like joint pain?
I do not. I do not. You know that you know what
having surgery for your joint pain is, gobly goook. You took a firing

(01:37:51):
line on your knee and you hadan operation, and now you're addicted to
painkillers. You have joint pain, and you were trying to tell me,
you've made the phone call to QCKinetics. I don't think so. I
don't think so. Are you havinga bad day with your knee pain?
So? Yeah, you need toget in touch with QC Kinetics and do
what so many people have done herein Houston and across the country. Take

(01:38:13):
advantage of what they have amazing regenerativemedicine treatments that have helped so many people
with lasting joint pain release seven onethree, nine one three fifty two eighty
five. That's how you get intouch with QC Kinetics. That's how you
get set up for a free consultation. That's where you get set on which
of their four Houston locations, allwith expanded treatment capacity that you're going to
head on over to, whether it'sCyprus, the Woodlands, the Heights,

(01:38:36):
or the Sugarland location. They willthey'll get y'all scored away, They'll get
you back to that life you onceled, and they will do it all
without surgery, without downtime, andwithout the need for drugs. Say goodbye
to chronic joint pain with great people, regenerative medicine, or at QC Kinetics
seven one three, nine one threefifty two eighty five. All down the

(01:38:58):
thunder well now Youda'm glenting God,Adam wexword all let go weck. The
eighteen continues on Sports Talk seven nineteenin case you missed it, begins now.
But I wonder if Mike Frattello realizeshow many segments we just got out

(01:39:19):
of his exchange with Iron Eagle. It's just the greatest thing ever. It's
just the greatest thing ever. Iswear, and Adrian just heard it for
the first time. And now Adrianis telling Mike that he just heard it
for the first time. It's justawesome. Oh God, I love Michael
tell In case you missed that, you can catch it on the podcast.
You should be a subscriber to theeighteen podcast. You do that bea the

(01:39:40):
iHeartRadio app In case you missed it, though, for today, what are
some of the things we've not yethad a chance to discuss? Dan knowing
what slip screens are? No,just kidding. Peyton Manning hoping the pair
Bill Belichick and Nick Saban on analternate broadcast, of course, Peyton Manning
with Omaha Productions, He and Elihave the Peyton and Eli Cast on Monday
Night Football now is unclear if theywould do college or if they would do

(01:40:03):
pro Of course, Nick is alreadygoing to be part of the college game
Day crew, and Bill, ofcourse is jobless. At this point,
it seems almost inevitable, regardless ofthe Belichick angle, that Nick Saban will
appear on the Manning cast this upcomingseason. He already did in previous years
when he did not have a contractwith the Disney Company. And yeah,

(01:40:25):
it makes sense that if that's alreadyin place, you might want to find
a way. I just wonder, like, what's the how do that?
How does the Omaha Productions pursuit ofhim conflict with ESPN's pursuit of him in
any way? What are we gonna? Are we bearing a lead any more
than we can here? I justsaid this on the air like two weeks

(01:40:47):
ago. I don't I'm sure it'snot. Well, it's not a new
one. The thing is this badday. Look at this offseason alone.
Tom Brady's gonna make his debut onFox. Jason Kelsey is a TV free
agent now. Yes, Bill Belichickand Nick Saban both are capable, and
one for sure now is entering theTV landscape. Okay, that's like the

(01:41:10):
biggest gold mine ever for TV executives, or it just means a bunch of
bums are out of a job.None of them are bums. All have
one titles. You know who's abum? You ready for this? Yeah,
I'm ready, Victor Wanyama, you'lltry to score more than ten points.

(01:41:30):
In case you mixed it, bumVictor woman Yama came in here,
scored five. It was five nothing, Victor last night. In case you
missed the second half, then youmissed all of Wemby's points. Yeah?
Yeah, did that tell you?On? I think now I'm not taking
credit for it. Yesterday, theRockets posted a picture on their Instagram account
of the outside of Toyota Center andthey were like, it was just I

(01:41:55):
think the eyes emoji, which Iknow you love when I read emoji's on
the air, it is your favorite. And I think it was some Spurs
fan was like, oh, wamma, Yama's gonna drop forty here tonight in
a triple double or something like that, and I got into a back and
forth with him. It's gone. The post is gone. Now. I'm
not saying it's because I got intoa back and forth with him, but

(01:42:15):
we I mean he was like hewas a little sharp tongued about it.
Mm hmm. And he I guaranteeyou if that was still there, because
I looked for it last night.Oh I looked for it because the receipts
were in hand. What else havewe missed? And it was gone?
Uh. Well. Another guy that'sa real favorite of ours on TV says
it could be a possibility. AlexKorra, talking with Ken Rosenthal on the
Fair Territory podcast, said, oh, there's always TV if he indeed does

(01:42:41):
get cut by the Red Sox,fired by the Red Sox after this season
or even in season, doesn't matter. But he said, hey, I
never said that I want to manageagain. I still want to be around
the game. So yeah, Ican just go back to ESPN. Do
you think they would allow him tobe drunk on the broadcast like he was
when he was coaching. No,that squeezed it in. It's five twenty

(01:43:05):
three and we get that uncomfortable moment. In last two seasons, he has
led the Red Sox to last placefinishes in his division. A third consecutive
trip to the cellar will probably resultin being a terrible roster. They'd give
you. Yeah, I know,I'm not even moving at all. They
want seventy eight games both years withnot a lot of talent, not enough

(01:43:27):
talent to compete with the other four. How much did they cheat in twenty
eighteen? Like everybody talks about theastros they have, they had to have
been cheating so much more to havepulled off what they did and for the
players individually to have put up thenumbers they did there and then to completely
tail spin after relatively speaking Mookie, what year did they win eighteen? Oh?

(01:43:48):
Yeah, I was looking at Mookiestats. It's very easy to tell,
Oh, why, what's the mosthas a batting title in his career?
Guess what year he wanted? Eighteen? That's right, he won the
slugging title that year. I guesswhat year? He just told you that
year. So he's had a anops over one thousand once in his career.
He was it in twenty eighteen,he was in twenty eight Okay,
he has a career nine hundred ops. That year he was ten seventy eight.

(01:44:11):
The year after twenty seventeen, he'sa career two ninety four hitter.
That year he hit three forty sixYEP what about the year before twenty nineteen?
What did he do that year? The year before? I just ran
through some of those numbers for everybodythat was listening. Now, the funny
thing, the funny, funny, funny thing is we mock him pretty hard
for his zero for the postseason lastyear, and he was in it.

(01:44:35):
So I'm not trying to Mike trouthim, no, exactly. He had
twelve played appearances, he had zeros. Sounds like a keen talking about Michael.
He was there. He lost hisnumbers in twenty eighteen. In the
postseason he hit one eighty eight asthey beat the Yankees. Mald Nato thinks
that's bad. He hit two seventeenas they beat the Astros, and then

(01:44:56):
he hit two seventeen again as theyhit the Dodgers. Did not have an
OPS in any series of seven hundredor better. He's a career sevent to
ten ops postseason player. That isnot good. All right. So now
I'm gonna be i in Betts, and I want you to ask me if
I advanced in the postseason last year. I know you made the postseason last
year, but did you advance?I did not? What else? Alright?

(01:45:20):
So noted and loser Yankees A lefthander Carlos Rodin first pitch of the
game today a home run. Alsohis fastball v low down after giving up
another home run as well, Heyto see fast Are they going to waste
money on Blake Snell? It's happeningright, So you're saying they're watching what's

(01:45:42):
happening in spring training and say,oh, we got to do this.
Well, you think that's what's gonnahappen. When from ber Valdez does it,
it's different. He's won A andB. He's not being paid what
Radona is. The Yankees are like, we're all in. If we don't
like at least make it to theAlcs and get leaped again by the Astros.
This is a failure of a seasonafter getting one Soto like they it's

(01:46:05):
just a matter of time. There'stwo guys on the market they could help
them. One of them is familiarwith them already and the other one they're
familiar with because they were in thedivision with him. They're they're signing one
of those guys. I guarantee itbecause it's the most Brian Cashman move ever.
I agree. I think it's gonnahappen. I think it's gonna happen
this week. Actually, well notthis week. Maybe it's only it's Wednesday,

(01:46:26):
it's late in the game, inthe game, maybe next week.
I'll wait a little bit longer. That'd be a very Yankees thing to do,
too, I don't. I mean, if they're you mentioned the vela,
it's a lot more than just theresults. If he's unable to,

(01:47:09):
and that's what they will continue. You can spend on cold, you can
spend over down, you can payfor Cortes. We're gonna pay for Snell.
We're gonna go sign Stroman just theywill keep doing it, and so
far it has netted them with Ashreal quick, very recently, real quick.
