(00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adhamtalking your teams? Adam Clinton and Adam
Wexler are the a team? A. Do you know what's funny about the
Matt Thomas Show? Adam Wexler,Well, it's a great show. But
like if, for example, ifwe preceded the Matt Thomas Show and we
(00:28):
were packing up our stuff in themiddle of his area, he would do
like probably two segments on how muchhe was offended by it, how much
we never get our crap out ofhis way, How well, at least
you're working for a change today. All of that, How was a major
market radio hosts to get his jobdone with you guys lingering me bands that
(00:48):
are passing by just trying to play. It was definitely warranted. I was
there? Oh you were there? Was that New Orleans? Yes? Was
it a was it a? Wellyou can't you got they have huge Well,
it's a media room for media togo to work, table after table
after table after table, interviews everywhere, a bunch of radio shows. So
what are you doing bringing a bandin there? So is it a ballroom?
(01:10):
I mean hotel? Yeah? Yeah, what are you doing bringing a
band in there? You can bringthem, but they can't play. We
might need to dig up that audiotoday. Is it still in the system,
Matt, Yeah, right, likeyou his best, It's not even
the only one where he yells atsomeone. Jamison's my Favorite's the best.
He like loses his mind just hetalks about he's a major market radio host
(01:33):
and he might be one of themons. It feels like a Friday show
and it's only Thursday. Oh boy, because it's Thursday, which is the
fact the beginning of the Weekend's whyI mean, aren't you looking forward to
this week? I'll tell you who'slooking forward to the weekend? The Rockets
so they can get the taste outof their mouth from last night. Listen.
I know it's the Clippers. Iknow they're very good, and I
(01:53):
know that Albrea and Shingoon just putforty five and sixteen on that French broomstick
forty eight hours ago. Go.You cannot blow a twenty point Yeah,
Unfortunately, it literally happens every night. There's eight games on the NBA schedule.
It happens three single night. Here'sjust the night before the Celtics blew
a twenty two point fourth quarter leadand they're the best team in the line.
(02:16):
Watching in the kitchen last night.I got in trouble last night,
by the way, So I've toldyou well, you know about how the
setup of my house is probably betterthan anybody because of all the talents that
work with me on the station.WEX has been to my house far more
than anyone else, including Matt Thomas. Yes, in my opinion, there's
(02:37):
virtually no place once you've stepped twofeet into the house. There's pretty much
nowhere you can be where you can'tsee the TV, whether it's the den
TV, whether it's the pool roomTV, whether it's the pool room TV
used basically once a year when youguys come over for the Super Bowl.
But from the kitchen table quote unquotekitchen table, uh huh, you can
(02:57):
see three TVs. Awesome four ifyou can see the one that's outside.
We haven't even gotten to the theaterroom. So for me, it's all
five thumbs up. What does Mattlike to say, you have far too
much disposed bl income. That's howhe always likes to tell me that I
enjoy your sports. Yeah, it'sall right, offs right, Well,
it used to be. It usedto be a ride off no longer.
Now you almost I don't even Ican't do his voice anyway. State of
(03:21):
the Pudding tonight? If you wantto watch that, what State of the
Union addresses tonight? So I callit the State of the Pudding march.
Well that's what, dude, you'retelling me. Maybe I'm getting that confused
with the once every four year speechthat's the inauguration. And what's the difference.
Well, one of them is wehave a new new state every year
in our union, and he's gotto tell us what it is. It's
(03:42):
the state of it. No.So I'm watching the Rockets game. So
here's here you too. Well, right, you're at the game. I
had stayed for the anthem, andthen I come home and I do my
routine, which is what if I'mnot working a Rockets game, were you
filming a TikTok? I went homeand I did buy a get un ready
with me routine? What are youtalking about? Man? I love it?
No, So a lot of timeswhen I walk in, they're finishing
(04:05):
up eating because I get you know, our show ends at six and we've
got a five year old. Youcan't wait that long. He'll murder everyone
in the house, so whatever,I don't mind. What I usually end
up doing is starting to eat they'refinishing up, and then typically the ladies
will migrate to the living room infront of that screen where they start watching
trash television. Their latest is LoveIsland, but it's the British version,
(04:31):
so everybody has everybody's halts in theinn biginnies, but they sound like this
sin it'ce all this kind of stuff. It's just terrible. And He'll do
his thing by himself, and I'lleither watch something on TV, or if
it's like last night and there's agame on that I'm not doing, I'll
turn on the game. Usually i'llwatch the Astros game once that season starts.
That's just kind of my routine. And it's in that kitchen table that
you were talking about area. ButI have been told that I'm not allowed
(04:56):
to especially watch rock era Astros gamesin there because I get a little too
volatile, let's put it that way. And last night I'm like, wow,
I think it was fifty seven toforty three at the break. Rockets
had led by twenty fifty seven fortyfour. Okay, so but it was
a good, nice, little doubledigit lead. They had led by twenty
yes, and they had hit soI think they hit hit how many threes?
(05:18):
They were nine of twenty one atthe half. They were well on
their way to hitting double digit threes. It was all good. Now they're
playing the Clippers and they're big three. You Knowice, I didn't put Russ
in there. They're big three.Nobody does well, right, and now
nobody does it all because he's shelveduntil the playoffs. They they are there,
they're healthy, they're playing, they'renot on a limit, you know,
(05:40):
minutes restriction. There's going to bea comeback attempt. And the second
half was just a slow drip ofcyanide into my system. Yeah. The
problem was even though they I thoughtthey did a great job in the third
quarter making sure it didn't happen untilthe very end of the third quest order
(06:00):
because they had a double figure leadernine to eight, eleven, twelve,
almost the entire period. Right atthe end, they let the Clippers get
it down to six. They waitedall the way till it was one way
to piece before they'd even allowed theClippers to tie it. And what I
thought might happen ultimately did because ithappened against the Clippers the last time.
Also, once the Clippers took thelead, it just got bigger. They
didn't have an answer immediately after theClippers went in front. They only made
(06:25):
one field goal after the Clippers wentin front, and unfortunately, they had
a bunch of mental errors down thestretch the officials, yes, the last
three minutes of the game. I'mnot saying it's why they lost. I'm
not even saying it effected the overalloutcome, but it didn't help. Well,
I didn't see what it was,so maybe you did, phantom.
It's pretty rare that Fred van Vlietin a game that's a one possession game
(06:47):
is going to get teed up thatlate in the way. He did.
Well, I'm glad he did, because if he didn't, Mike Evans probably
was going to get teed up.Well. Usually Mike Evans was sitting courtside
and as Fred was yelling at thereps, he was doing the same thing.
Uh as he now no longer isavailable to anybody, but he's back.
He was back at Rockets basketball lastnight. There's some I don't know
(07:11):
that I'd call them phantom fouls, but one on was phantom. He didn't
touch him. He hit him righton the hand. No he didn't.
No, he didn't. Okay, and the hands part of the ball anyways,
No, it isn't sure it is. It is when you're hitting his
fingertip. If you're in front ofthe player and you hit his hand on
the way, it's not afouls andit's his it's his fingertip. It didn't
affect the shot, it didn't hurthim. It was not a foul.
(07:32):
There are some things you just don'tcall. You don't. It goes both
ways. I hate that even more. It's not you're right, So you're
saying you're you had nothing what youmeant was it? I don't have anything
to do to who he is orwhen it was. You just mean you
make that the game? Why wouldyou call that? He barely touched his
(07:53):
finger. Now, how would youdo it with two minutes left in the
game? Is even worse. It'sthe same. You've already blown the twenty
point lead. You're well on yourway to blowing the game and avoiding having
a three game winning streak for thefirst time since like November of Nomber.
Well, that's what it was.You were doing everything possible, including you
Alprea and Shingu. Mister forty fivepoint sixteen rebound night, you can't make
(08:16):
three out of four free throws downthe stretch. This is getting to be
a Shakille O'Neill. He's not problem. His His problem mostly is that when
it happens, which games, whatpart of those games? Last night was
a great example of that. Butit doesn't happen during the game, well
he's not. It happens at lateThat's what I mean. When it happens.
And and why get that he's nota fifty percent three point free throw
(08:37):
shooter. Is the biggest problem ofall, Like he should be tighty the
way his technique is totally fine. There's no way he should not be seventy
five or better, even as acenter, even his guy with big hands,
you know, the dumb excuses, but he is. He misses a
lot of key free throws, andhe obviously is not at that percentage.
Uh, he's not quite in aMason Plumleing territory. And that's why any
(08:58):
of the other stuff that the Rocketsjust botched, the way they handled the
end of the game, unfortunately didn'thave enough cushion, didn't have enough good
possessions down the stretch, and therejust wasn't enough shot making, otherwise they
would have extended it to a threegame winning streak. Now they go back
out on the road, where theyobviously have struggled quite a bit, have
an opportunity with who's on this portionof the remainder of their Again, they
(09:20):
went through that stretch right out ofthe All Star Break where there's nothing but
Phoenix, Oka see and it's like, well, we're gonna get through that.
Well. As soon as they getthrough it. Outside of the Clippers,
there's a big, big downturn inthe level of competition, and you
see Portland a couple times. Youhave another game with San Antonio, who
still have two games, both gamesthis season against the Washington Wizards. They're
all coming up in the next ten. But not sure what I want people
(09:45):
to see. The Rockets play goodbasketball that results in victories. That's great.
The Rockets are going to be inthe lottery. Their team's record is
going to put them in the lottery. And we know what the contingencies are
on their pick. We know thecontingencies on the Nets pick. So I'm
not sure exactly what you're looking for, especially with the talent or lack thereof
in this draft in my opinion, but the percentage changes on how to get
(10:09):
inside the top four is pretty dramaticfrom where you are if you finish with
the eleventh best or worst odds intenth and ninth and eighth, and that's
the area of where they are in. But they just came up a little
bit short last night. Portland theirnext opportunity to get a win tomorrow night,
Yeah, nine o'clock. They Ican't remember did they win that game
against Portland the last time they played. I believe their last meeting was here,
(10:33):
the overtime game where Jeremy Grant hitthe three at the buzzer off the
window and then Portland won and ot great. Just games like that.
Man. I'm not saying the Rocketsare better than a bunch of teams,
but they're better than Portland. Theirrecord sets, they're not. It's just
insane. But that's that again, going back to Alprin Shingngoon, what happened
(10:54):
to him for like two months?Teams will we hurt? Well if you
if you were paying close enough attentionlast night when the late double teams were
coming, he was finding teammates andthey were making shots. Well, he
found a bunch of cutters, soI would hope they could make their layups.
But he also got a few guysto hit threes and jump shots off
of his passes, and that's whyI had a career high and assists.
(11:15):
They weren't rapidly quickly immediately double teaminghim, and so I think he handled
it brilliantly last night, whether itwas getting his own which he didn't.
He didn't score a lot, andagain two of his buckets came in the
final thirty seconds when the game wasalready decided. But he had a career
high and assists the night before.Spurs basically didn't double team him at all,
and so he dominated the individual defender. And that was Wemby for the
(11:35):
most part most of the games againstPhoenix said, Okay, see it was
a different story. They have teamshave been running double teams at him.
They've tried to get the Rockets tobe forced to run their offense a different
way. It affected him. Itaffects him quite clearly. He's not nearly
as efficient or as effective. Butit most definitely hurts the team because I
(11:56):
don't really have a lot of otheralternatives on how to get in to their
offense and where they want things torun through. A little bit of zone
from the Clippers also last night, and sadly, an illness basically hurt the
Rockets and it was just Evitza Zubats. He didn't play in the second half.
He starts the game, which wasgood for the Rockets because he kills
them. Well, it was notgood for the Rockets because he'd had absolutely
(12:18):
nothing in the first half and thenthey gave up four dunks to Mason Plumley.
Plumbley was a positive factor in thesecond half last night and they were
hacking him well. Unfortunately, thatwas the only time he was a negative
factor for the Clippers because he missedthose two free throws. He should have
gone to the line three different times. He went once because the Rockets messed
it up. All right, Sowe will we can delve into some more
(12:41):
Rockets conversation if you'd like. Wewill definitely delve into some Texans conversation as
well. There's another big name. That's how many big names on we are
good. We have cap space entername today, No every day. That's
not what I'm saying I'm saying aguy who is saying he would like to
play here. That's the difference too. I know me too, I would
(13:03):
love I'll take what I'm saying.I'm saying the same thing. Veteran Minimum.
I thought you were saying you wouldlike to play for the Texans.
Well, no, I'm not areally good NFL player who's a free agent.
The person who's saying it is everyday. That's true. That's actually
very true, which is good. It's not scrubs. They're saying they want
to play here, and even ifthey were, would anybody care? Well,
they said, man, this isa pretty good deal the last three
(13:26):
years, I'd love to play there. Oh how about a five hundred thousand
dollars up front signing bonus? Willgive you one point seven million unguaranteed,
and then we'll release you before theseason starts, and you'll get to work
for three months, use our facility, learn our scheme, walk out the
door with five hundred thousand dollars togo find a job elsewhere. That's the
Nick Cassaria way. It sure isour previous previous case. Now he's a
(13:46):
real GM again. You know,Dan and I were talking about how the
Texans do things. As it pertainsto him. We'll bring that up as
well. Oh, Dan is alongby the way, as that's wex over
there ac right here, Dan Matthews, the show Killers. We take you
up until six o'clock tonight and whenwe return our signature segment as always at
three point fifteen ish here on theA Team. But first got to tell

we take it until six o'clock tonight. Dan the showkiller here as well.
(16:02):
Astros Baseball can't get here fast enough. I'm very much looking forward to,
specifically Opening Day when even though JustinVerlander won't be on the mound against the
Yankees. And by the way, have you thought about this? I don't
think we've talked about this scenario atall. Justin Verlander's not on the mound.
That automatically in all likelihood, butautomatically means it's fromber opening day.
(16:29):
Yep, against that Yankees revamped lineup. They're fully healthy. There's not going
to be Oh well, there's nobleaque injury to Arson, so he's out,
or Gean Carlos Stanton has another softtissue injury from all the steroids he
did or didn't do, so he'sout. Oh no, it's gonna be
them. They'll be healthy. Inall likelihood, Juan Sota will be in
(16:51):
the lineup like flyball pitcher. Herewe go, ground ball pitcher, No
flyball pitchers. Have you watched himlast year? Groundball? He gives up
home runs now, he's always givenup home runs, usually at a pretty
low clip. He hasn't been agroundball pitcher in two seasons. You know
why, because he's not getting anyground balls anymore. He's they're getting smoked
past him or they're getting launched overhis head. He's he's a groundball pitcher,
(17:15):
all right, Fine, I hopehe can get ground balls against that
lineup In twenty twenty two, wasn'this like whatever pitcher launch angle like negative?
Well that was the last time hewas good, though. I'm talking
about twenty three when he just wentinto the toilet for his standards. Yeah,
I mean, I'm not chalking itup to a I hope they can
(17:36):
beat him on Friday. Just yet, maybe I am. I clearly you
are. I mean, And again, even letting you get that, put
that out there, letting me Ido whatever I want, letting you put
that in people's mind. Why not, Like I think we need a ceremony
(17:56):
on the twenty seventh of March,or in the fact that we're going to
be on from twelve to three onthe twenty eighth of March, we could
do it then maybe on site atMinute May Park sometime at maybe one point
thirty maybe two o'clock. I willliterally before the show, buy a blanket,
walk over to one of the concessionstands, doubt the said blanket,
(18:18):
and hand it to you for thenext one hundred and sixty two games because
it is all yours. Now youare putting a big, fat, totally
moist wet blanket over the Astros season. Okay, because Framberg can't get the
Yankees out apparently, Now now thatyou've gotten all that out of your system,
it's not all out. I know, norere is it for me?
(18:41):
I know that that sounds over thetop on the surface. Talk to me
about Opening Day last year? Howdid that go? Gave out some rings?
Right, it was cool, Itwas neat. It was neat,
that's the word you would use. Then what happened then they won eighty nine
more times and won the division?Happened that day? Or did they lose
that one? What happened that day? Jeremy Panna batted Jake Myers was came
(19:07):
off the bench. You know whenyou're getting closed. Literally not even joke.
This is not a joke. Ihave they like garbage against the White
Sox. It just didn't Yes,it fell off from the start. Everything
did about the season, The wholeseason, then proceeded to feel off.
(19:27):
Yeah, they didn't have a winningrecord till the White Sox left town.
That's great. You can do whateveryou want here, that's fine. Whatever
you need to get through to splitthe four games. But they they won
the division on the last day ofthe season. Yes, and just felt
like they were, you know, fighting up pill against the Rangers of all
teams all season long, eventually losingto the Rangers because the aforementioned Fromber couldn't
(19:52):
get anybody out. We got enoughguys out on the opener last year to
not allow any of them to scoremm hmm five in shut out baseball and
opening day. So it was thebullpen. It literally was the bullpen.
They give up three runs of theeighth and ninth lost three too. Who
gave up those runs just out ofcuriosity? Raffy and Johnny Cash, oh
the guy they'd give a bunch ofmoney to. They shouldn't have one run
(20:15):
more than they had the whole twogame before that. Yeah, and that's
why Presley is no longer the closerright there. Back then, Dusty didn't
even know that a brave should bea seventh inning guy went a bray nearis
Montero Presley. Back then, Dustydidn't know a lot of things. As
we continue with this ridiculous conversation, though, uh, I just I know
(20:36):
that Fromber had an off year witha no hitter sprinkled in there. I
keep going back to that because it'sjust insane of all seasons for him to
have a no hitter. Didn't seethat one coming. But I just don't
want there to be a repeat performance, and I don't think there's going to
be. But I just know you'reyou're you're poking fun at what I'm doing
here, But we all know what'sgonna happen if they lose that opener and
(20:57):
nothing. I'm not talking about Houstonmedia. I'm talking about New York media.
They are going to act like theYankees are on pace for one hundred
and sixty one in one record ina world series parade. Let them,
I will. I'm just why notnot let them though, because that's more
fun and that's what the Astros usuallydo. Well, think about it.
Let's take the other side of it. The revamped Yankees get to for the
(21:22):
first time, and I don't knowhow many years, thirty years, get
to trot out the cy Young Awardwinner on opening day and he loses to
the Astros, as the Yankees doall the time. How about fire Cashman,
how about Aaron Boone needs to begone right now, this very minute.
Why can't they jump off the deepend the other way? You think
(21:44):
tag outduels Garrett. How much moneywould you think I would need to have
exchange hands between myself and Brian McTaggartso that he would write that headline if
the Astros win an opening day,if the Astros and Framber, well,
let's say they went five to nothing, and you know, Framberg goes six
shutout innings, Garrett Cole goes fourinnings, get eight strikeouts, gives up
(22:07):
six four five six runs home runs. Yeah, one to Alvarez and one
to Briggy. Yeah. I guaranteeyou in his Astros dot com right up,
there will be a line somewhere orparagraph about how they own them.
See, but this is the partwe'll eat it up. Yeah. This
is the part of digital media thoughthat I do. It does make me
miss the traditional newspaper. You getthat headline on the front of the sports
(22:32):
page the next day, and itwould have some clever New York themed roasting
the Yankees because of the way theylost that game on opening Day here in
Houston, same old song and dance. What would be something that the media
could do but their rags, youknow, the ones that really go overboard,
They would say, this isn't ouryear right out of the gates.
(22:57):
That is the most page six.I mean, they would not waste any
time. They would be his mudslinging. It would be all over what
a judge goes over three with threestrikeouts, Wetton, I'll do you one
better now, yours is good.I don't think I'm gonna top it.
But if they really wanted to goextreme, because it's the Astros, they
could put same s asterisk asterisk differentyear for sure. That would be a
(23:22):
very appropriate one as well. Again, it's one regular season game and one
of their meetings this year. Reallyis not that Magnificent doesn't carry that much
weight. Would be nice if Framberopen the season that way, And at
this point, there's definitely no reasonto not expect the Astros to use him
in the one spot They've kind ofgot things lined up already. Christian Xavier
was on the mound today for theAstros. He's likely pitching in Game two.
(23:45):
Both Framber and Hunter Brown actually threwyesterday, not in the game,
there was no game, but theythrew on the backfields in advance of that,
knowing there would not be a game. So obviously Hunter Brown, Jose
Orkeaty and and if all things continueto progress JP France, those will be
the first five guys in the rotation. Then there's probably a decision to be
(24:06):
made if there's any value in having, say, Renel Blancos start one of
the games against the Blue Jays,if you're trying to give guys a little
bit of a break out of thegate, trying to ease your way into
the season the way the schedule is. But those, you know, those
are the guys that are going tobe prepared to start the season. They
have a series four games against theYankees and then another three against a better
(24:29):
possibly East team, certainly last yearwith the Blue Jays. I'm going to
do something i haven't done in avery long time. Next segment, we're
going to get to our JV updateas we actually will do it this segment
coming up, and I'm going totake a phone call about this subject.
I'm going to take a phone callfrom someone who has a solution for Fromber,
A solution for Fromber. You knowwhat you need solutions for? What's
(24:52):

as to Easton, it is goodfor listen to Rockets Radio on your smart
device. Just ask lay pus dotseven ninety on iHeartRadio eighteen continues here on
a Thursday edition of the programs SportsTalk seven ninety. We've already covered the
fact that the Rockets just completely crapedthe bed last night. That's how we
(26:38):
uh, that's how we refer toit. You don't agree they lost they
crafted the bed last night. Theyhad a twin. You know what I
didn't like about that. By theway, you have Harden passing off to
Paul George passing off to Kawhi LeonardBucket is good. They're within two,
Right, what are you even doingmessing around being down by twenty this team
(27:00):
when you have those guys on yoursquad. The fact that the Clippers aren't
running rough shot over the NBA actuallysays a lot more about there. No,
they're not best team in the NBAsince they got their first win with
hard and fifty one games, bestrecord in the West. Okay, what
do you want them to do morethan that? There is not twenty to
the Rockets and Mark you won thegame. You're right. They had to
make a massive comeback and you tookgreat about cares you outscored the other team.
(27:23):
You walked out out of town ona road game with a win.
Nobody with any of the dominant teamsin recent NBA history, and they should
you take? Okay, I don'tknow. They have thirty seven and fourteen
last one game. You have thebest nobody's better? No, no,
no, stop, you have thebest to two way players in the NBA.
Rex, Yeah, should not bend. They're not the best team.
They're not even the four seed rightnow? Are they for the season.
(27:45):
They didn't have Harden at the beginningof the year. Oh, you're right,
they had the two best wing defendertwo way players in the NBA.
Team has two good players. Nonow, no, not too durt not
too fantastic two way players. You'regonna have to let me finish. I
know you're today. Yeah, butyou guys to model points so they give
up more. So it's all thesame. They've had Kawhi and Paul George
for how many years now and donenothing unhealthy non playing George and Leonard they've
(28:08):
played almost every game this fault.Don't want to, right, but they're
out there. That's why they're good. How many games have they actually missed
for injury this year? Ever?During their time as Clippers tons, and
on top of that, all thegames they missed because they needed to rest.
That's what I'm getting at. That'sthe first problem. But say you
(28:30):
do, you completely could get ridof that magically, like they should.
Still, even with the games they'vemissed for injury, I don't I don't
recall them missing a ton of injurygames. They've barely missed any games this
year they've played. They've missed acomplete they've missed games all the time.
Really, the injury games, well, see, I don't know how to
differentiate between don't want to playing backto back. You know, That's what
(28:53):
I'm saying. They've they've missed agame that doesn't count. I'm saying,
this guy's choice, I guess iswhat you're digging for, which is why
other years you would I don't thinkyou would have said they should be running
away with things or running rough shotover the league. That's just two guys
who we can't count on. Thisyear we can. Yeah, I'm willing
to admit just focused on this seasonthat James Harden has fit like a glove
(29:15):
with them. He's done everything hewas supposed to. He's the reason they
won that game last night. Ifyou want to talk about he wasn't making
the shots. He was orchestrating atall. But like, I'm willing to
admit that. At the same time, you've got to admit like they've underperformed
for who they've been over the years, for sure, But I didn't think
they's had anything to do with thisyear's version. And to me, it
(29:37):
doesn't that this year's team since Harden, since they beat the Rockets the first
time, which was the first oftheir most recent fifty one games, they're
the best team in the West bya couple of games. They've gone thirty
seven and fourteen in their last fiftyone games, then maybe it just doesn't
feel like they're dominating because of Knightslike last night. Well, if you
look at the standings as one reason, they started three and seven, so
(30:00):
aren't in first, second, orthird. Yeah, last night is another.
You know, I don't know.It seemed like the Rockets were doing
a good job closing out, whichcreated a four for sixteen three point shooting
first half, which is why theRockets had at times a twenty point lead
and at the half of thirteen pointlead. But even saying that, I
just never expected it to continue. It's just the way the NBA is and
(30:21):
the Rockets were just the opposite example. Look at the you know you have
a good half, well you usuallyhave a bad second half. Not every
team falls into that, but that'sfairly normal. Kishot fifty five percent for
the game, and they scored seventyeight points in the second half. That
is when those Rockets were the bestteam in the NBA back in twenty seventeen
twenty eighteen, it was like, who's how much are they going to kill
(30:42):
this team? By tonight? Everyother night if not every night, Right,
that's the Celtics. Yeah, Iguess so, even though they were
one of the teams that blew atwenty point lead this week, and even
though they're one of the teams thateven though they do have star power.
I just Kawhi Leonard and Paul Georgewhen their health that should be lethal.
Don't you also think and I thinkwe do, and I think fans know
(31:04):
this. This stuff is not tohurt the NBA product by saying it,
but this stuff doesn't It just doesn'tmatter. It doesn't NBA just in general,
it doesn't matter if you finish firstor fourth or sixth. Yeah,
it didn't matter if the Rockets finishedfirst that year. If you are healthy
for the playoffs, that's it.It doesn't matter you stay healthy through the
(31:26):
end of the series Rockets. Imean, even look today with the news
unknown news, because nobody seems tohave a timetable on Karl Anthony Towns injury.
Everyone's like, oh, what ashame they got such I'll tell you
that right now, this is helpingto dictate correct I'll ask you today who's
gonna win the West Thunder. Youdon't know, I don't know. I
think the Thunder actually are right untilit's their team that gets hit by Jalen
Williams injured, SGA injured, andthen you'll go to the next team that's
(31:48):
healthy, and then when they havean injury, you'll go to the next
team. There's six or seven teamsthat can win the West, and I
hope it's not dictated by injury, but it's always dictated by injury. And
maybe Towns, unfortunately, is thefirst of what is to come. Yeah,
would have been nice if they wereone of the teams to knock the
Clippers off their block last night, but unfortunately, just like the first meeting,
(32:10):
remember they were tied at one hundredin the final minute and lost by
six. This game, they weretied at one oh eight and lost by
six in the final a few minutes. Naturally, all that stuff about the
you know, Clippers and Rockets taketwo. Does that lead us into our
JV update. We're talking about injuries. Yeah, let's let's talk some more
about injuries on the good side ofit. Let's let's squeeze in our JV
(32:32):
update for you. I wondered ifyou were you know, into this.
I'm not now because you're not singing, do we need to start the music
over? Oh my gosh, whatdon't we pay this guy? Over here?
For JV update, he didn't throwtwo Dad. JV was not scheduled
(32:58):
to throw today, and as Danthe show killer man, he in fact
did not. He is expected tothrow tomorrow and if all goes well,
I'll say it for Joe Spotty. He hasn't been explicit in his description of
what is to follow, neither hasJV, but I do believe a live
VP is on the other side ofhis throwing session tomorrow. If that is
(33:19):
the case, then he's probably rightaround exactly what he said he would be
when he got to camp, abouttwo weeks behind schedule. Several live vps
would likely be next an opportunity toshow his wares in a spring training game,
probably three or so, and bythen they'll be back in Houston getting
ready to take on the Space Cowboys, and then the Yankees and Blue Jays,
(33:39):
and then after that he should beready to go. If all continues
to go well. Tonight in Arlingtonthe rematch, Christian Javier got the I
guess it's over. Dan. You'rebeing a showkiller today. You gotta play
your part. Oh my goodness, gracious, all right, I promise we'll
(34:02):
get to Andy, and we're goingto get to who wants to play for
the Texans when we come back tofinish the three o'clock hour, after which
wex will have a coronary here onSports Talk seven ninety one. Show two
Adams Endless Possibilities eighteen continues on SportsTalk seven ninety Let's get on the phone
(34:27):
lines for a change seven one, three, two five, seven ninety Andy
on a mobile line, joining us, what's up, Andy? I think
I have the solution for fromber.I love this. I get to watch
every game. I'm a DJ,so it's in my DJ booth. I
can hear it and I get tosee it. So I watched every game.
He needs to stay out of theweight room. His uh fastball velocity
(34:50):
last year, I think they weresaying it was like two or three miles
an hour faster and he was throwingfaster than he's I mean harder, and
I did not realize. I guessthat affects spin rate and when the ball
drops, and I swore they talkedabout it on the broadcast that the faster
the ball was coming in the breakwas later so the ball would be higher
and they were just pounding him.And when he had that game, he
had a couple of games almost hethrew an oh hitter last year, didn't
(35:14):
he mm hm. And I thinkhis velocity was down in that game.
So I'm convinced you'd have to askBlum because I'm sure you'll have him on
during the season. But what isvelocity on a fast Yeah, that's true.
What is a fastball velocity? Howdoes it affect the spin rate?
And then the ball dropped? Andthat's my theory. That's a pretty good
theory. I'm curious, Andy andyour DJ booth. Do you ever get
(35:34):
on the mic and introduce anybody tothe main stage or the side stage.
I guess you've been in. Iguess you've been sitting in front of my
DJA booth. Love it great stuff. Pitching coach Andy joining us here on
the A team. We'll definitely getthat, and you got it. I
tell you what. I don't reallyneed to ask him, but we will
get his opinion on it, becauseI'm sure he will have the same one
that you did. Andy. There'sa lot of reason to believe for certain
(35:58):
pitches, and I believe ram oneof them. What you're getting at is
exactly right. It's not necessarily theweight room, but maybe some things that
allow him to fire it in thereat varying speeds, which still can keep
a hitter off balance even when it'snot a different pitch per se. But
yes, it absolutely is going toimpact spin rate to a certain degree and
(36:22):
break position, and that's a hugepart of it. I think you're definitely
right, and we'll definitely have aconversation with Jeff about that. His visits
with us will begin very very soon. He did throw a no hitter last
year. We mentioned that a coupletimes over the course of what went wrong,
conversations about Framber throughout last year, throughout this offseason, and even earlier
(36:42):
today. I should also remind hethrew the no hitter Guardians went down and
everybody had a great old time, even though he had not been pitching tremendously
well when that took place. Hehad another game where he went out there
and the other team he didn't getany hits off of him. He threw
the no hitter against the Guardians toopen up the month of August. In
(37:07):
the three games that preceded it,he gave up fifteen runs in four in
fifteen innings, and then three gamesafter the no hitter, when in those
three games he gave up sixteen runs, you know, hit the Tigers for
seven innings. And we've gone onand on and on about how the second
part of his season was so awfulstatistically, which includes sixteen no hit innings
(37:35):
against two teams in two games. That's how awful he was in so many
of his other starts that second partof the season. That's why I'm really
surprised. At no point during thatstretch did they come up with a solution
that maybe you have or maybe theyjust all the things you're gonna want to
tweak and everything you're gonna talk to. With your pair of pitching coaches,
(37:55):
Murph and Josh Miller, you're usuallygonna have some ideas. Obviously, he
was working with Martine Maldonado all yearlast year, also, so I would
suspect knowing he wouldn't be doing thatthis year, knowing yanters a part of
it. The two pitching coaches werereturning probably total guests. He's a little
bit lighter this year than he waslast year, But I'm only guessing and
(38:17):
it's probably not significant. I'm surehe has some different ideas. We already
know he's going to be or wantedthrough spring training to call some of the
game himself. He's only had onespring training appearance and again yesterday was supposed
to be two. He ended uponly pitching against his teammates and some live
vps. But these are things I'msure they have discussed. That is a
(38:38):
very reasonable attempt at a solution.I would think they would have probably investigated
themselves internally. I just I thinkthere's a lot of things mechanically that can
fix major issues with small adjustments,if that If that makes sense, because
we just talked about this. Hedoes have new hair too. That well,
(39:00):
it was clearly weighing him down lastyear. Now I think in pitching
that is especially the case. Butwe were talking to Chandler Rome about Jeremy
Penia's batting stance earlier this spring.Things like that. Lance mccullors Justin Verlander
has talked multiple times in his astrosten yours, both of them about mechanical
(39:22):
tweaks that he's made to a delivery. Right, I think I found something
in it to the last couple ofthe side sessions. We'll see. You
know, I think I've got ananswer. I think I found it.
I think it is awesome looking athimself and probably over analyzed. So what
what do you want to go with? Who do you believe in the most
With all these tweaks, We'll stickto the hitters. Bregman's an animal.
Every year he trains with a differentgroup of people. This year he's working
(39:45):
on all these things. He cameback bigger. He's always working on tweaking.
Not just his kid to do groundballs, that's insane. Knox will
be a good one. So that'sone guy. Then there's Pana, who's
obviously come back in year three witha changed batting stance. By the way,
he came back in year two withthe change batting stance also, and
the leg kick that's been changed. He's made changes every year. This is
(40:07):
only year three. And what doyou do with those two thoughts? Who's
doing it right, who's doing itwrong? And now add Kyle Tucker into
it, like you you know,he's in his own head. Well,
his swinging gloves, that's the firstthing. His swing doesn't change a whole
lot. He doesn't choke up orchoke down, He doesn't move up or
back in the box. He doesn'tdo a lot of those things that will
change the kind of mechanics of it. But yes, the batting gloves is
(40:30):
I'm wearing him today. He hadto change his routine slightly because of the
pitch clock. Step out, grabsome dirt, rub it on your hands,
get back in there like. That'skind of all those things I'm telling
you right now. I think thepitch clock has done more damage than a
lot of people are wanting to admit, and some of them are more outspoken
about it. Max Schurzer doesn't likeit. He definitely doesn't like it.
(40:53):
Are you okay with saying, youknow, two full seasons with a pitch
clock and you'll have your aunt,Sir, you'll have more of an answer
because I don't think it's bad foreither side. We'll find out on the
injury front. I think for thepitchers, because we a lot of people
think last year we had more injuriesbecause of it. And maybe it also
happens to be you went from nopitch clock to pitch clock, and this
(41:15):
year you won't be making a significantchange. They have altered it to eighteen
seconds with guys on base, Sothere's a small change, but from twenty
twenty two to twenty twenty three nightand day, from twenty twenty three to
twenty twenty four almost the same parameters. And I think from a hitting standpoint,
I'm not sure how many guys thinkthat you know, it lowered the
offenses or lowered individuals, you know, barometers for a good season. I
(41:37):
mean, is nine to forty ohps the same as nine to sixty the
year before. I think two yearsis at least to me if there aren't
enough other changes to get a goodgauge on how people perceive these changes as
its impact. We already know thereal impact. All they cared about was
shortening games exactly. But is thereal impact now on the field going to
(41:57):
be felt in a way that theywould want to rethink it? Or are
they okay with the games? Andare agents okay? Let's say you're right.
Let's say offense is down, Well, if individuals offense is down,
then that's what teams are gonna lookat. And even though you might be
they'll have to the agents will say, well, he's still the fifth best
player. Yeah, but he's notdoing as much. But the fifth best
player in the league is still thefifth best player in the league. His
value shouldn't change. I think thatyou can no more in year two of
(42:22):
this. I don't know that younecessarily will like it better have a control
group of baseballs, though you can'thave different baseballs and different ballparks. Well,
it just depends on who you're talkingabout, because we all know that
they're gonna help the Yankees out asmuch as they can, and then hypocritically
say that the Astros were cheating andthat's why they haven't. We're gonna see
April Yankees home games. Home runsare going to be up, but then
(42:42):
in May they're not because they wereused up so many of the good baseballs.
They would have hit too many ofthem out and they wouldn't have time
to get the shipment of further flyingbaseballs in dan Stadium in time. The
name, it's okay, those areGoldilocks balls. I guess I don't know
Goldilocks had baseballs like that. We'lltalk about at all. Goldie with Chandler
Roman an hour from now looking forwardto it or weekly visits with Chandler bumped
(43:04):
it from Wednesday to today in lightof a impactful Astros Day yesterday, but
there was no ballgame today. Therewas a ballgame, and you will hear
it right here on Sports Talk sevento ninety the relaunch coming up at seven

Two lifelong Houston sports guys named athim talking Your Teams series, Adam Clinton
(44:58):
and Adam Wexler are d A TeamA Hour number two. As the weekend
has begun here on the A TeamSports Talk said, it's really begun now.
If we're in the second hour ofa three hour show, the weekend
is well underway. Are you lookingforward to this weekend? Wex absolutely a
lot of work to do. It'shere. So we got Rockets basketball on
(45:22):
Friday night late. All members ofour Rockets working family will be working that
night. You an MT have theradio call be on TV for that one.
Do they acquire studio on Sunday?I honestly, I don't believe there
are technical requirements. If I showup with no tie, they won't say
you need to go home and getone. And if Calvin shows up wearing
(45:43):
whatever he's wearing, they're never goingto say you need to change. Well,
he gets outfitted. I don't getoutfitted. I have to have my
home stylists say yeah, that looksgood like that. Yeah, so Portland.
And then who's the game Sunday?I've already forgotten who they're playing.
The game before the only game thatyou can care about the Spurs game.
I don't care about that game. It's of no significance to me. Perfect.
(46:07):
Yes, three road games for theRockets over the next handful of days
starting tomorrow, A bunch of Astrospring training games still to go. They
did play today, We'll get thatgame for you in three short hours.
A good outing for Christian Javier perhis manager Joe Spotta, talking atter the
game like the way he was throwingthe ball again, did a better job
with the running game. If yourecall the last time he and several other
(46:29):
pitchers were out there that they gotrun all over by the Nationals. He
did give up two home runs, but he also struck out six in his
three innings of work. Josh Hatergot himself in and out of a little
bit of trouble, got a doubleplay ball to get out of his inning
without any runs being scored. BrianPresley was scored on today. And again
they're not throwing closing type innings. They weren't the eighth and ninth inning guy
(46:52):
today. They're throwing the middle ofthe games, as all relievers that matter
will do at this point in springtraining. For teen hits and the a
lineup was out there against the Cardinalstoday, kind of seems like they could
have and maybe should have scored fourmore runs. But a conversation that we're
probably going to have between now andmaybe the whole season is what Joaspotta thinks
(47:15):
to do with the lineup, andhe trotted out the lineup that I think
many people think is exactly what we'llsee against Garrett Cole on opening Day.
Altuve Alvarez, Bregman, Tucker,A bray You, Daz, McCormick,
Pana and Myers. I got,I got a question real quick for you
go any further? How long intothe season until we're talking about, Hey,
(47:36):
you know Yiner should be moved aheadof a bray you? Well,
there's two things. That's probably thesecond one first one to discuss to me
is still Alvarez batting two, andthen the other one I think very easily
could turn into you know, Diazor honestly McCormick. They're batting six ds
seven McCormick with a brave you battingfifth. I think the hope is a
little bit like Dusty for much oflast year. He's too good to look
(47:58):
the way he did last year, and maybe a hell fear more rested Jose
A. Braw is a more productivejose abrew a two to sixty, hitting
a braid with an eight h fiveops instead of a six seven five.
He has to hit his first homerun until June. He's getting moved down
the order a lot sooner than Dustywould have. Well, I think a
new manager might feel more compelled todo it, especially since he's got he
(48:19):
just watched him for a year. You know, Dusty was waiting to see
if this guy who just won theMVP two years ago in a sixty game
season was going to get things backon track. He'd been one of the
most productive hitters in the American Leaguefor a decade, and he was also
the brand new thirty nine million dollarman. Now he's just a twenty six
million dollar man. But the otherquestion, I do think still sits at
(48:39):
the top of the lineup, rightafter Altuve, and I think people will
have different opinions as we make ourway through some of the sample of it.
Not so much that what we're goingto see in the spring, but
more what we see over the firsttwo, three, four weeks of the
season or six weeks or whatever thetimeline you want to look at. I
guess it was perfectly fine today. You got singles to open up the game
(49:00):
for both Altuve and Alvarez, andnow you gotta go Bregman, Tucker and
the Astros ended up sending eight mento the plate in the first inning,
did not hit a homer, onlyhad one extra base hit, and scored
four times before the other team hadeven come up to bat. That that's
going to be the twenty twenty fourAstros offense theoretically, and in the first
inning you'd set up just the wayyou want. Altuve leads off and then
(49:22):
two three, four you think there'sno way they're getting through this, and
maybe it's even better when it comesup later in the game if the guy's
hitting front of Altuve eight and nineor seven eight nine are doing anything.
My contention is, I don't knowthat it's going to be so great for
Alvarez to be batting second if there'snothing happening at the bottom of the lineup,
(49:43):
because now he's just gonna come upeven sooner with one in two outs
in the inning. That is areason that you keep a bray you where
he's at, because then the chazzIs of the world are closer to him
in the turnover of the lineup, and it's you know, you keep pointing
to Topana. And this would beone reason why what I'm saying might now
come into play. If your eightnine hitters are reasonably productive, they can
(50:04):
still be your eighth to ninth besthitters. But if they're reasonably productive,
then it won't matter. Then somebody'sdoing something before al Tuove gets to the
plate. Then when al Tuvey doeswhat he does, then Alvarez is batting
with multiple guys on the first inning, you're guaranteeing Alvarez will never bat with
multiple guys on If he's batting second, you're hoping it will then come later
in the game. Many times ifthe other guys in the lineup at the
(50:27):
bottom are getting on base, andjust for everyone's knowledge, he's batting second,
and what's the first thing you hearabout the why, Oh, they
just want to get him more atbats. Then you know, more times
he goes up there, the moredamage he can do. And that's why
you'd want to do it. That'sI think why most people thought Trout and
Otani had been moved up in thecorner. Aaron Judge is a two hole
hitter. Freddy Freeman is a twohole hitter at some point with the Dodgers,
(50:51):
though you could say it with anybody. I mean, where else are
they going to bat? They gotthe three best hitters in the National League.
Quite possibly they have to bat somewherenear the top of the lineup.
But it's kind of not a bigdeal. Over one hundred and sixty two
games, it's about fifteen twenty playedappearances per spot in the batting order.
Added, that's it. Last year, the Astros leadoff hitter, guy batting
(51:14):
first, had seven hundred and sixtynine played appearances guy batting second twenty two
fewer, the guy batting third justfourteen fewer. Now, the difference between
batting first and fourth is a hugedifference, but that each individual spot in
the batting order is only like Isaid, about twelve to fifteen to twenty
(51:34):
at bats difference over the course ofthe season. Are you really getting that
many a more at bats by battinga second over third? If that's your
only reasoning, I'd probably back offof that, and I'm made a final
determination, But as of today,I think I'm still leaning towards it.
Not wanting to see Alvarez bat thirdand not mine or second, excuse me,
and not minding that Alvarez and Tuckergo back to back, and I
(51:58):
would go al tuo Vey Bregman, you already have beef with Joe Spontez.
What you say, I mean, unseasoned, uncooked, barely out of the
wrapper beef. Yeah, maybe, but I'm still willing to throw it in
the pan sizzle it up, seasonit up, throw it in a tortilla
and eat it. Okay, allright, that's one way of putting it.
Didn't see that if you will,Yeah, no, I'll take that,
(52:21):
all right. The eighteen continues hereon Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Was something I've been teasing for acouple of segments. There is another.
There's another. How should I saythis? There's another big time player that
wants to play for the Texans, and I've completely lost Do you think that's
his selling point? Like when hecomes to the meeting, I'm a big
(52:42):
time player. I'm sitting down. You're gonna talk to me, and you're
gonna know that I'm a big timeplayer and I want to play for you
guys. Well, I mean,we're we've brought a big time player into
town, Dimiko. I want youto meet him. You guys down there
in the cafeteria, all these chefsthat the Texans brought in special from the
city of Houston, per Dalton Schultzto feed the players. And we got
a big time player coming in today. He should be into the cafe tier
(53:04):
between twelve thirty two and a twelveforty one. Could you go ahead and
have something ready for him today. He's got a pretty tight agenda. He's
gonna coming on a visit today.Could you make that happen for this big
time player, Please sign Nick Casario. How do you feel about Patrick Queen?
I think he's a big time player. Okay, thank you, No,
I mean I think by this.At this point, and we have
not yet started free agency, wehaven't even started the tampering period, which
(53:27):
is Monday free agent, and thenew league year starts Wednesday, We've almost
got a player per position group thatwe could say has interest in the Texans,
is linked to the Texans at someinterest, yes, some interest my
favorite degrees. But up front, there's Christian Wilkins on the defensive line.
You've now mentioned Patrick Queen, whowould be phenomenal in my opinion, not
(53:51):
just because he's a great player.I think he'd be a great fit in
this defense. Would love Queen tocome here, To have Cashman return here
and play alongside Christian Harris as yourthree linebackers, that could be an enormously
successful group. We did see oneplayer in the secondary go off the board
today. We haven't mentioned that yet. One of the players that was hit
(54:14):
with the franchise tag just a coupledays ago. Officially, the Bears Jalen
Johnson now has a seventy six milliondollar contract that he has agreed to four
years, so nineteen million a yearfor one of the league's best young corners.
And that's often exactly why the tagis there for both parties to be
happy with it. He ends upnot having to play on the tag,
(54:34):
ends up not having to play ina contract year for the second year in
a row, but in fact getsa ton of guaranteed money and is one
of the highest paid corners and athis age, odds are still reasonably good
they can play through that four year, seventy six million dollar contract. We
saw Justin Simmons get told to getout of here by the Denver Broncos.
Today, all he does is goto Pro Bowls or Pro Bowl games.
(54:57):
He also reaches All Pro status. He's just an awesome player, Captain caliber
player for the Denver Broncos. ButI can't help with poke fun not at
him, but at the Denver Broncos. You know why, which reason,
well, we earlier this week wedidn't get on the team that congratulated one
(55:19):
of their players on having a birthdaywith a social media post, and only
two followed up later in the verysame day with a year out of here's
brutal post. But what did theDenver Broncos do with the news that they
needed to part ways? Because theircap is out of control and they stink,
So this is the only way tofix it. We all know that
is the only way to fix things. Got to let players go. He
can't restructure and you certainly don't wantto be good. Their statement on social
(55:43):
media reads as follows opening line,Justin in the caption of their statement,
Justin will always be a Bronco whenwe thank him for the outstanding mean matter
in which he represented our organization onand off the field. I read it
as it was written in the caption, which was wrong because it's outstanding manner.
But they said matter nonetheless, Justinwill always be a Bronco. Do
(56:07):
you think I maybe quote tweeted thattoday? Probably yeah, I did.
So their line is Justin will alwaysbe a Bronco when you think and blah
blah blah blah. I said Justinwill always be a Bronco and by that
we mean Justin is no longer aBronco. Effective immediately, Wow, that's
like, what's the trut You gottastop saying this, even for JJ Watt
(56:30):
when he was let go to pursueother football opportunities right Arizona. He isn't
a Texan. He will always bethought of as a Texan. We will
always consider him a Texan, buthe literally isn't a Texan. And now
he truly isn't because he didn't evenlive here anymore. But yeah, Justin
Simmons is not a Bronco. Hewon't always be a Bronco. He's about
(56:50):
to deep be the exact opposite ofa Bronco. He could be a Raider,
he could be a Charger, hemight be a Texan. He will
literally not be a Bronco. Youknow me and semantics, I mean this
up. You are loving this. But Justin Simmons player. He has made
the group of safeties even more talent. Rich talked about the running backs yesterday.
The d line options are immense. The safeties and corners available are immense,
(57:17):
really talented players. So maybe you'regoing to see a in a good
way depressed market. Well, Ido have a question about which one of
those positions could best benefit the Texans. We'll get to that a little bit
later on. We'll get to oursignature segment next. What's up with that?
We still have nickelback tech. What'speople saying he will always be a
Bronco the exact moment he is literallynot one. That's a good that's a
(57:39):
good point. Also, is therea new quote unquote running back in the
NFL? And what I mean bythat is running backs are becoming expendable or
you don't want to extend them allthe time? Does exactly is there a
new position becoming that way in sports? And how many more positions might this
(57:59):
happen to? Is the game offootball in the NFL itself evolves? We'll
get to that plus Channeler Roam atthe top of the hour. It's a
jam packed Thursday edition of the ATeam Sports Talk seven ninety. You know
what else is jam packed? CushataCasino Resort put plenty of room for you.
Well, yeah, but there's plentyof room for a lot of things
in there. If you're walking throughoutthe largest gaming floor in the Lake Charles
(58:21):

because no matter where you turn, there is something to take in there.
That's the game. The table gamesare there, everything's there. The Red
Sports Book is directly in front ofyou if you can get to the back.
And I just say that because there'sso much in between wherever you are
(58:42):
and the back at any given time. We just mentioned a lot of them.
People watching is electric, people watching, game watching, Red sports Book
yep. Lots of screens, lotsof resort style pool. Maybe there's some
people watching to go on there.Hey, do you want to play some

Sports Talk seven ninety swam out anew signature seven called What's Up with That?
(59:49):
What's up with that? What's Up? I say, what's up?
What's up with that? With that? Oh yeah, true signature segment time
here on the show, and Ifake signature segment earlier in the show with
JV update. Well, we dothat every day now here since February fourteenth.
Hopefully we'll be done with it aroundApril. On on first week of
(01:00:13):
April, late stages of the firstten days of April, we'll be back
out there pitching every fifth day,and we'll be done with that. We'll
never be done with this brand spankingnew signature segment What's up with that?
We did get some brand spanking newnews today that absolutely fits this segment to
at Not since January eleventh, twothousand and five, as a certain boxing
(01:00:39):
hero to some villain to many manyothers, and now one of America's greatest
actors. Not since then was heinside the ring doing what he does best.
My father's been pet you with mydefensive impregnable and I'm just Fromoching.
I want your heart, I wantto eat his children, pray to a
law is now speaking directly to JakePaul, Praise be to Allah, who
(01:01:04):
he will fight in North Texas midJuly July twentieth. Mike Tyson on June
eleventh, two thousand and five. He's fifty eighth professional fight in which he
did not beat Kevin McBride, notthe star of the Kenny Powers program,
(01:01:24):
just savvy McBride. He was thirtyeight years old, a few days from
turning thirty nine. That was twothousand and five. Hey, math wizards,
how old is Mike Tyson now?And when he fights Jake Paul?
He's fifty seven now, he'll befifty eight when and if this fight to
(01:01:49):
be shown to you on one ofyour favorite streaming providers. What from Arlington?
You know those those training videos ofMike that are fairly recent where you're
you know, you mean the onesthat were all over the internet to the
interwebs today. Yeah, oh yeah, you look at those. I'm not
getting in the ring with that guy. I don't care. He's nearly sixty.
(01:02:09):
I'm sure that Jake will handle hisbusiness quite well against Michael Gerard Tyson.
He's gonna knock him out. Whois some people? What was wrong?
Come on, let's let's analyze Jakefor what he really is as a
fighter. What does he do whenhe fights? For real? There's only
a couple of outcomes? What arethey? Usually? Always he wins?
(01:02:32):
Yeah, but this is a boxingmatch, right, Chris Okay? As
have his other ten professional fights beenI thought he was like an MMA guy.
No, he's a I wouldn't callhim that at all. He's a
he's a fighter. Tommy Ferry gotthe best of him, but each of
his other nine fights have been victoriesfor Jake Paul. Maybe I'm just getting
(01:02:54):
mixed up. My judgment's being cloudedby the wrastling side of things. I'm
with you. I believe the nearsixty year old Mike Tyson provided his Uh,
his mind is right and he wantsto eat Jake Paul's children that he
will win this fight. Are youinterested, though? Is the question?
(01:03:15):
Because it's what's up with that? Why is this being put in front of
our fan consumption? Well? Arewe going to consume it? Is this
a money maker? Is this aninteresting fight to follow? Something like this
should be a money maker and thatshould be the reason. But it's on
Netflix. So you've already paid yoursubscription fee, so well you have and
(01:03:37):
they have, but have are thatmany people for Netflix just to say this
debauchery, debacle, train wreck, whatever you want to call it, And
then I guess I'll stay around. No, you get on, you get
Netflix for everything else that's there anyways, and then oh, this happens to
be there? U zero to onehundred percent? What percent chance would you
say this fight just doesn't happen forwhatever reason? When's this got before again?
(01:04:00):
July twentieth, so we're three monthsout. I would say if four
months out, if it doesn't happen, and that's probably better than average chance
of that. It's because Mike wouldpull out right now, even think of
how the fight was sold via thecaption that Netflix sent out today. It's
Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson Dash yesreally and a live boxing event. They
(01:04:25):
know, but of course they know. But here's the deal. What if
we get to July no one haspulled out, They get to the event,
Mike walks out to the ring andhe's shredded. Uh oh, shredded
at that age is a little bitof a choice. It's not gonna be
the first time it's happened, though, No, and it is an exhibition.
I mean, he could pretty muchdo whatever he needs want to do.
(01:04:46):
Is still shredded. Stallone's pretty rockedup still, and they're both in
their sixties. Actually, Stallone's inhis seventies. Now. Remember I tried
to sell it that he's been outof the ring forever two thousand and five
fight with Kevin mcride. Now,he did fight just a couple of years
ago against another guy who fought waytoo long, Roy Jones Junior, another
(01:05:11):
exhibition bout. It actually was onthe same card as a Jake Paul Nate
Robinson. First, I forgot rememberthat years ago. Honestly, you know,
it's just an aside from the comedyof this story in and of itself.
Pound for pound, not many peoplein the history of the boxing game
better than Roy Jones Junior. Wouldyou say that about Roy Jones Junior?
Or would you say that about Ohgosh, who am I thinking of Mayweather?
(01:05:38):
Mayweather, even though it's a reallya different style fighter, because he
just was difficult to beat. Someof these other guys are just so good
at certain like his his defense iswhat's so good and that's not impregnable.
If nobody beat him, then howcan he not be at the top of
the list. I mean, youwould have a hard time arguing against Floyd
(01:06:00):
not being number one on that list, even though I liked other watching other
fighters that were comparably as gifted andas award winning or title bout winning,
like Roy Jones Junior, like MikeTyson, for example. Do you think
of Mike you don't ever lose?Like, right, what's the argument?
Okay, so if you if youthink, and again, I know that
he had his biggest loss, mostvisible loss before the jail time, Buster
(01:06:26):
Douglas. He just didn't take himseriously and don't take credit away from Buster.
Okay, you can take a littlebit away from him, James Buster
Douglas. What a what a momentin his life. And unfortunately a lot
of bad things happen after that forboth of them, for sure. But
if that's not the case, likehe doesn't go to jail, do you
(01:06:47):
think we're talking about Mike is theall time greatest or do you think somebody
finds a way to I mean, the problem with his fights, they were
just over so fast because he wasjust killing people and at some point in
time he was fighting. It doesn'tmatter who you are or what you've done.
If you're out there and in myway, you're next. It was
exactly he was a sledgehammer. No, he was a wrecking ball, not
(01:07:10):
a sledgeham. He was at too, But like, I just wonder how
I think it would have gone.Yeah, I think of like Evander against
Mike that I still to this daycannot believe any fighter was able to get
to Tyson kind of mentally the wayEvander was. And it takes me back
to what Sugar Ray Leonard did toHagler. I'm like, there's no way.
(01:07:30):
First of all, I don't thinkLeonard won the fight, even though
everybody else did, at least thejudges anyway. But to me, it's
like, there's no way Hagler's goingto lose to this guy, not at
that stage of his career in lifeand what's going on. And I thought
the same thing about Tyson. Ithink Tyson, when you watched him at
his best, you're like, there'sno way anyone's ever gonna beat him ever,
no matter what. So yeah,I think his career would have been
(01:07:53):
significantly more magnificent without the all ofthat. I don't want to see Tyson
v. Paul. I don't wantto see it. I'm actually glad that
on the date that this is scheduledfor, I'll be on an airplane coming
back from vacation. Actually, Ithink I'll be home in time, and
I still won't watch it. That'llbe like when we we will probably add
land in enough time for me toget home and turn it on and won't
(01:08:15):
do it all right. What wewill do WEX next is giveaway tickets to

to ninety on iHeartRadio. We reallyneed to bring back the world's worst dictators
like I used to do back inthe day I first started. I mean,
you may have a good recollection ofthis. Are any of the World's
Worst Dictators? Edition one still amongthe World's Worst Dictators today? Because that
(01:10:09):
was over a decade ago. China'sdictator has changed. I think North Korea
might still be the same guy?Okay, right? Yes? No,
is it the same guy that's inTeam America? Now? We don't have
one yet? Right still? Mmm, That's why I was wondering if maybe
(01:10:30):
we could we see ourselves. Areour great American country land on the list
this time around? Is one masqueradingas one? Is one being one behind
the scenes of the one masquerading?Who knows? It was a good time.
It was well written and well readby Matt and Matt Jackson and Casey
the writer and reader. I wasn'tas good back then at Casey as I
am now, and Matt used totell me slow down, slow down.
(01:10:56):
I guess I read too fast.I was young, I was fresh out
of college. It was great onthe night Shift, by Yeah. The
Night Shift featured two still running charactersof yours, Bill Walton oh Man and
Casey Caseon. Remember when I usedto send you guys, Walton on a
mobiles at like five in the morningbecause I had stayed up all night and
didn't do it before. Then theywere very well, much appreciated. We
(01:11:18):
had an early show working with me. Now it doesn't surprise you even a
little bit, does it? Notat all? Not one bit, just
the way I am. I've beenflying by the seat of my pants for
forty three years. So earlier onthe show we talked about the latest.
Hey, this would be awesome ifNick Cassari would throw a bunch of money
at me, because I would absolutelytake it and love to play for the
Texans. Is it the same sayingI would love to play for the Texans
(01:11:41):
if a different player said, youknow, I wouldn't mind playing for the
Texans, it would be all right. I could do that, because that
also is now on the table.Okay, this is a guy that got
cut earlier. This well cap casual. There you go, There you go?
Is I can't remember does Zavian Howardhave local ties, because ye aspect
of this absolutely does. Mike Evanswas in the building last night. He's
(01:12:02):
not coming but for a long timebecause he grew up here and has tattoos
that prefer to the City. Heis a He's a Galveston Ball former high
school member of the football team obviouslyonto Aggie Lannon on through to one NFL
stop and still in Tampa. Imean Brandon Back, you have that in
common. Galveston Ball, YEP,Wheatley High School product Zavian Howard. Zavian
(01:12:27):
Howard says he wouldn't mind playing forthe Texans. Now, that's not the
same as you know, I'd reallylike to play with C. J.
Stroud. Man, everybody would liketo play with J. Shroud. I
want to play with J. Shroud. I'm gonna have to jump in and
say, that's a me way todescribe the story. I'm super over the
top, totally unnecessary semantics. Wouldn'tmind he's saying he would like to play
(01:12:47):
for the Texans the way, youknow, think about that. You you
said to me yesterday, probably, hey man, what do you think you're
going to see nickelback? And Iprobably said, I wouldn't mind. That
means I go. That means ofcourse I would go if given the opportunity
to play for Demiko Ryans and hisdefense. To watch CJ. Stroud and
(01:13:08):
now my offense every single Sunday fieldside. I wouldn't mind. I want
to be there. There's a playthere. They can't sign all these guys
that say they want to be here. But if they signed a few or
even one of the names that they'vehad linked, whether it's Barkley, whether
it's Wilkins which would be very expensive, or Howard among many others, it's
(01:13:30):
a really to me. I knoweverybody is afraid of all your cap gone.
You just spent all of it inone off season. Doubt Nick does
it. So I'm not worried atall. And at some point the money
needs to be spent. If there'sgood players to get that are gonna make
your team better, you take thatrisk. You take that. Do we
get one good year instead of threethat we signed them for. Do we
(01:13:50):
get two good years instead of fourthat we signed him for? This is
gonna hit us on the other sidewith the dead money because it didn't work
out. Yeah, it happens toall thirty two teams. It is an
interesting quote because he starts it bysaying there's a few teams I'd be interested
to play for. Man, I'mat the point I just want to win.
(01:14:11):
I want to go deep into theplayoffs. I'm sure there's gonna be
teams interested, but I'm going tobe focused on teams that have been deep
in the playoffs that can make abig run. That's not Houston. Well
it's certainly not Miami either, butit is a deeper run than the Cowboys
had last year. That is true. I don't know how many people realize
this about your Miami Dolphins football franchise. The Dolphins have one of the biggest
(01:14:35):
droughts in the NFL. Yeah, maybe that's what he's talking about. It's
get me out of here. It'sall of his years there. He said
the door is closed by the way, he ain't going back. Yeah,
and I understand why. And that'spart of it. That the manner in
which things have happened with him arealso similar. The Texans have been around
since two thousand and two. Texanswon a playoff game this postseason. That's
(01:15:00):
one more than the Dolphins have won. Since the Texans have existed. They
have zero playoff victory how many timesthey gone. This year was their fourth
trip, second in as many yearssince two thousand and two. Since two
thousand and two, they've only beenfour times, both years under McDaniel,
with Tua. So the Texans havegone more to as well. Yes,
that's crazy to me because they hada drought. They have had four five
(01:15:24):
to ten win seasons since the Texanshave existed. Four of them have brought
them to the playoffs or three ofthem. Actually, their ability to win
when it matters non existent for twentyyears plus. I'm actually surprised that the
Dolphins in general have not had abetter run of it in the entirety of
(01:15:44):
their franchise. They went to theSuper Bowl Dan Marino's rookie year nineteen eighty
four. They obviously haven't been backsince then. Two conference finals, lost
conference title game losses over the nextseven years, but they have not been
back either since the time. Iwould argue they're one of the most feudal
franchises in the I mean the lastforty years in terms of great success.
(01:16:08):
Absolutely, but they're just not. They've never had a run of being at
the bottom of the league. Theyhad the one season where they won one
game. That was two thousand andseven Cam Cameron's year, right after Nick
Saban left to go back to school. They have very few they don't have
any other They have one other seasonin the last eighteen years with less than
(01:16:28):
six wins, So even though whenthey were awful for them, that's usually
six and ten or seven and nineare now lukewarm. Yeah, it's not
putting up at the top of thedraft. They're not at the top of
the draft for multiple seasons in arow. They've had some playoff drafts quite
obviously, and they're all that coincidedwith them basically going through coaches every three
to four years and getting clobbered bytheir division best. All these years of
(01:16:50):
futility for them for the Jets havekind of matched up with the Patriots dominating
the division recently with Josh Allen's emergence. The Bills have obviously been a competitive
foe and have won the division nowrecently, but these teams were not competitive
with Brady's teams at all. Letme give you an updated quote as we
(01:17:14):
take it away. Here, takeit away. Oh yeah, oh yeah,
that's my guy, Howard said talkingabout him and Ladanian are now.
Danian's almost a Laramie Tunzel. Ohokay. I saw LT on the page
and immediately I don't think of it. For those of you out there,
when you think LT, how manyLT's did it take. Does it take
for you to get to Laramie Tonsat least two, if not more,
And that's fine. It's not ashot at Laramie. No, that's Hall
(01:17:39):
of Famer, Hall of famer,Hall of famer, and it's possible.
Hall of famer. Yeah, meand LT always been talking. We were
in the same draft class. Wealways have a relationship. I wouldn't mind
seeing myself back at home. It'dbe easy for me, especially being home.
I already have a crib out there. They got a good young team,
and I wouldn't mind. I lovethe last line of this article.
(01:18:00):
It's worth of noting Houston might notbe as keen on striking a deal.
Yeah, that kind of puts adamper on things. That's the wet blanket
portion of the article. Well,I think it's a does a good job
of trying to paint it exactly forwhat it is. It's I have information
from only one side, so Icannot give you the information on the other
side. It wouldn't mind. It'snot that side's ecstatic. Hey, wex
(01:18:23):
Gordy here, you guys have ashow at three o'clock today. What do
you think I wouldn't mind I'll mindhosting it. I'll come in, I
guess. I mean, we'll seewhat other offers come in. But I

guy wouldn't mind playing with you versusreally wants to come here. Maybe keep
that in mind, just saying, all right, would you mind going to

by the way, was the answer. Fifty weeks on the Billboard Hot one
hundred chart, but never at numberone. It said that at five o'clock,
(01:20:57):
which is a few short minutes away, we will talk to Chandler Rome
Astro's played today, they'll play hereon Sports Talk seven to ninety in a
couple hours. Take the lay basis, we will also have Astro line coming
our way. Immediately after the conclusionof the a team mentioned that we were
gonna have our JV update, andthat is that he should be on the
mound tomorrow. But even more fromthat from Chandler coming up in a little
(01:21:19):
bit when he joins us at thetop of the hour. We're talking a
little bit about this list yesterday, and I suggested the handful of Texans that
were listed on the PFF Top onehundred and one players from twenty twenty three
based on their analysis, not somesort of vote or anything like that.
(01:21:40):
I knew there was at least onemore coming that we had not heard.
We aready knew of tunsl And Cashmanand Stingley Junior and CJ. Stroud As
the list twenty by twenty got releasedevery day this week, so there are
only twenty more names twenty one throughforty busted out today and as I'm mentioned,
one more Texans name popped up,just the one I said it would
(01:22:03):
be. I don't think comes asa huge surprise. After he was one
of the top three, maybe topfour wide receivers in the AFC, he
became an even more obvious number onetarget when Tank Dell went down, and
it didn't matter. He kept producing. Had a nice end to his season
to help kick off their last gameof the season with a seventy five yard
(01:22:25):
touchdown against the Colts. Strong showingin the postseason unbelievable third NFL season for
Nico Collins, and a lot ofthe measurables suggested the very same thing,
and that Nico Collins dropped in atnumber thirty four this year in the top
one hundred players as ranked by PFF, right behind Sauce Gardner, right in
(01:22:46):
front of Travarius Ward, and therewill only be a handful of wide receivers
in front of him. The onlyone for certain that I know is Chris
aj Brown and Puka Nakua are inthat other group of twenty. We got
twenty more to go, and there'sa couple names that will show up there.
He's widely considered not only here butfor how he produced the analytics side
(01:23:13):
of it. You can say heneeds to do it again. You can
be unimpressed if you want. ButI don't see how I've said it before
since the season concluded. And believeme, I did not say it before
the season. I did not expectit, even though I knew there was
talent there, loved his size, thought he did a nice job getting separation
at times during his first two years. I did not know this was there.
(01:23:36):
I did not expect this to happen, But the several weeks into seeing
it happen over and over and overagain. I was already convinced. I'm
definitely convinced now he's going to havea similar season next year as a targeted
number one. And I mean thatboth ways. The Texans are going to
be have him as their number onetarget. Defenses are going to know we
(01:23:56):
need to target slowing him down andit's not gonna have no And I do
wonder if that first round pick goesto a wide receiver, if that changes
at all, uh, I meanbecause he's I mean if he was not,
if he had a season unlike thisyear, an eight hundred yard season,
a thirteen game season instead of thefifteen that he played, then I
(01:24:18):
think it would change it dramatically.I don't think they should feel compelled to
do it there. I think thereare plenty of wide receivers available after that.
I think this group of wide receiversat the top of the draft is
insane. There are a bunch ofsecond and third round receivers. Tank Dell's
a great example of one. PukaAkua even further back as another example.
(01:24:38):
You can be the team that getsit right later in the draft on wide
receiver. But I can't help butadmit the group of wide receivers that are
going to go off the board inthe first round, the first thirty picks,
first thirty two picks. I'm suresome of them won't pan out,
but I don't even know who tosay between Mitchell and Worthy from Texas who
are probably at the back end ofthe first round, obviously, Harrison and
Neighbors and Thomas and Keon Coleman,it's insane. I think this is one
(01:25:02):
of the best classes we've seen, and we've seen young receivers repeatedly the last
five or six years immediately be superproductive, and Dell and Nakua were more
examples of that, and they weren'teven first rounders. Justin Jefferson immediately an
NFL star picked immediately after Jalen Ragerin the first round. Speaking of stars,
(01:25:24):
Chandler Rome is going to join usnext as we get the five o'clock
hour underway. Astro's spring training andeverything else related to that we will talk
to him about when we come back. Right now, though, I want
to talk about something else that's perfectfor this spring type weather the rodeos here.
Spring is in the air. Itis now time for you to get
on over to UVC Power Sports,Tractors and Outdoors, your one stop destination

Texas. Truly experience what it's liketo see what all of their equipment is
capable of, but particularly those Kawasakiside by sides. Check out the inventory

away with everything you need for youroutdoor adventure. Make it a good one
and head on down to UVC PowerSports Tractors and Outdoors in Alvin, Texas.
Remember with that all new Kawasaki Ridge, it's business in the front party
(01:26:51):
in the back Stone Colts said,so two lifelong Houston sports guys named at
him talking your team, Adam Clintonand Adam Wexler are d a team A
team our number three. Usually it'sfootball at five, but occasionally we have
(01:27:15):
our good buddy Chandler Rome of theAthletic to join us each and every week.
Today we moved him to a Thursdaybecause we could, and that's what
we do right now as Chandler comesin to talk all things Astros, spring
training, major League Baseball, anda whole lot more so, at the
beginning of the show, Chandler Iwent on full panic that from ber Valdez
(01:27:38):
is just he's not going to beable to snap back to his twenty twenty
two form. We had a callerthat called in and said that he's been
in the weight room too much. There's theories on this. When he is
the opening day starter, how manythings do we have to worry about against
the New York Yankees. I mean, I would have worried about anyone.
It's gonna be the opening they startedagainst the Yankees, and that's a really
good lineup. And again I don'tthink that like if he doesn't pitch well
(01:28:02):
on opening day. I don't thinkit should be a cause for alarm or
concern. And just like I don'tthink his first grape Fruit League start that
was not good, I don't thinkthat should have been a huge concern either.
You know, I think he's gothe's got some stuff to work on.
You know that we've talked about. You know, he throws. He
was throwing the sinker harder than hehad before, and that's going to affect
(01:28:25):
a movement that kind of goes handin hand with his mechanics and need to
find a better release point on it. It does sound like, you know,
he's trying to he's trying to changesome things. And with the Athletic
we reported that he's going to experimentwith calling his own pitches this year,
with using PitchCom He did that inhis first Grade Fruit League start. And
you know, I think a lotof times when we talk about fromber Valdez,
it's mental with him. And oneof the things he said as to
(01:28:48):
why he wants to call his owngames is because he wants to throw pitches
with more conviction. He wants tobe the guy in charge, he wants
to have it I think his exactquote to me was, I want to
have the game in my hand.He already has that. No matter who's
calling the pitches, he's the onethrowing the baseball. But I guess this
gives him more comfort and confidence thathe's making the decisions and that if he's
(01:29:10):
gonna get beat, he's gonna getyou know, what he wants to throw.
So I mean, of spring trainingstats are are pretty meaningless. I
think the only guys you look atthe stats and great for the games,
for the guys that are, youknow, fighting to make the team,
the guys that are in position battles, and the actors don't have a ton
of those guys. So you know, I think for Valdez, he's just
(01:29:32):
got to get through this spring healthy. He's got to get through. He's
gonna work on a couple of things. He's gonna work with the pitch com
see if he likes the way thatfeels. But I wouldn't overreact to results,
and you know, I guess Iwould also counter with what else do
they have? Like, It's notlike they can just cast him aside and
go to someone else. I mean, this isn't this isn't one of those
(01:29:55):
things where they have a bunch oftop of the rotation sort of guys just
waiting. You know, he whothey got. And it's not like he
was an unmitigated disaster last year.He finished top ten in cy Young voting.
The second half of the year wasn'tgood. But they can harness him.
I think they can harness him andget him back to that form.
But with Fromber, it's all. With Fromber, it's always going to be
kind of a you never know whatyou're gonna get and go to the ballpark,
(01:30:16):
and I know that can be unsettling, not only for fans, but
for you know, people on thatdugout and the coaching staff. Usually a
comment like that about a pitcher isnot the guy that gets the ball first,
not the guy at the front sideof the rotation. You've written a
lot about him and obviously been herethroughout his time. Is there anything from
last year or the last two orthree years from a trend's statistical standpoint,
(01:30:39):
his hard hit rate, the exitv low ground ball percentage, any of
these numbers, even you know, ops against, slug against, did anything
stand out specifically from either, youknow, any time period the last three
years? Or just last year,to you that was an alarm bell or
maybe the opposite. Yeah, Imean I talked about him throwing sinker a
(01:31:00):
little bit harder. You know, everyone kind of everyone pushes back on that
that I ask with the astros, but apparently it does go hand. They
say that something is off in hisrelease point, in his mechanics of how
he throws the sinker, and theysay it does that because he's trying to
throw harder. So, yes,the velocity is somewhat of an issue,
but I don't think they're trying tofix the velocity. They're trying to fix
(01:31:21):
the mechanics, and I think handin hand with that. I think I
may have mentioned this last time. You know, his ground ball rate on
his sinker specifically, I think wasat like seventy seven percent in twenty twenty
two, which that's an astronomically highrate, and that's what he's good at.
He's good at getting ground balls.Last year it was something like fifty
(01:31:43):
four percent. Now, he stillled all American League starters last year in
ground and ground ball rate. Thisis not a situation where he's you know,
he's torpedoed or plummeted in the groundball rate department, but he's not
getting as many of them. Andwhat you've seen, what you saw on
his first grade Fruit League outing,is when his sinker stays up, it's
(01:32:03):
going to get hit hard, andit's going to get hit on a line,
and they need to prioritize the contactagainst him has got to stay on
the ground. And he saw teamslast year start having a pretty concerted approach
against him. A lot of teamswere going the other way. They were
waiting on that sinker to come. They were, you know, letting that
(01:32:25):
sinker travel in, and then theywere just taking it the other way,
shooting it the other way with linedrives. You have a few more homers
last year than he has in thepast. But you know, when he
throws a breaking ball a good bittoo, and you hang a breaking ball,
sometimes it gets hitd out of theballpark. So I think what they
need to they need to find hissinker again. And I'm not here to
suggest that the sinker was bad lastyear. It just wasn't as elite at
(01:32:48):
getting ground balls as it was whenhe was, you know, really good
in twenty twenty one and twenty twentytwo. So I think if they fixed
that pitch, you know, Ithink his cur we know what his curve
ball is. The cutter that headded last year has become a really useful
pitch for him. He's been ableto throw the change up a little bit.
If they can just fix that sinkerand get it back to its elite,
(01:33:10):
elite level, then I think he'sgonna be okay. But that's kind
of easier said than done, especiallywith a pitch that's there's a lot of
intricacies to it. There's a lotof movement, there's a lot of movement
patterns. You know. This isn'tlike a four seamer or you just rear
back and throw it and if yougot velocy and if you got enough you
know, hop and ride, itjust goes by you. This is a
different pitch entirely, so it's gonnatake a little bit of work. But
(01:33:30):
I think that's the biggest thing forme is, you know, he's got
to keep the ball on the ground. Talking to Chandler Realm of the Athletic
here on Sports Talk seven ninety,we were discussing this earlier. If indeed
the lineup, you know, foropening day and for the foreseeable future winds
up being alto Ve Alvarez, Bregman, Tucker or Bray you diez Uh McCormick,
Paana and Jake Myers. We weretalking about Jordan Alvarez being in the
(01:33:55):
two hole and about that lineup flippingover and how much you know, if
just even a few of these guyshave a bit of a bounce back,
then it's not gonna be you know, him getting up to the plate with
you know, two outs or whatever. How many of those guys that I
just listed off, Like, whodo you look at as the guy who's
got the best chance at making thatbounce back? Like, for example,
(01:34:19):
I said to Wex, would youhow long until we start getting complaints that
Diaz is behind a bray you inthe lineup? Is Jake Myers the guy
that's going to be expected to bethe automatic out that was Maldonado last year?
Like which of these guys that you'renot expecting to do very well towards
the bottom half of the lineup canmake that adjustment or that turnaround from twenty
(01:34:42):
twenty three. I guess I'd gowith Jeremy Paynya just because, as I've
talked about on here, like youeveryone wants to say he had a bad
year last year, and the lookhe had a below the league average APS
plus, but every kind of underlyingmetric you look at, he got better.
A like his batting average was up, his strikeout rate was down,
his walk rate was up, hewas swinging at better pitches, he was
(01:35:05):
not swinging and missing as much. You saw signs of growth there. You
saw signs of better pitch recognition,of better plate discipline, of more mature
at bats, of having a planand just being a lot a more professional
hitter. And obviously the power wasn'tthere, and they and you know,
we can we've obviously discussed his swingchanges and kind of what he's going to
(01:35:29):
do differently and his setup and everythinglike that. But I think because it's
kind of already trending toward last year, you know that he was getting better
in so many areas, it justwasn't translating with the power. And I
think if they can get him hittingthe ball on the line a little bit
more, hitting the ball hard more, and he keeps everything we just talked
about, the play discipline, thepitch selection, things like that, and
(01:35:54):
I think he's he could be apick to click, and I think certainly
he's the guy that you look atthat those other guys you mentioned, you
know, Joseo Brayw is still thirtyeight years old. He's still up there
in age, and I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I think I
don't think it can be worse thanlast year. And I think certainly the
second half the playoffs kind of gaveyou a glimpse that he's still got something
(01:36:16):
in there. But he's another yearolder. You know, Jake Myers,
I think, you know, he'sgonna have a lot to prove. But
I look at Jeremy Panyon, Ijust think, you know, all the
strides he made last year that noone talks about. I think if he
carries those over into this year andthe new setup, swing everything, if
he can translate that and look,he doesn't need to hit thirty homers,
(01:36:38):
he doesn't more extra base hits, more you know, hard contact on a
line, more barrels. Jeez, why is he self censoring us call?
It's like he's swearing but not well, the majority of that was well,
all of the stuff that we heardwas good stuff. I mean, we
(01:36:59):
got them majority of our time withhim in there. But it is interesting.
I mean, I think Paine isthe guy that is the obvious answer
to that question I had for him. And if if you're not expecting much
of Jake Myers, then that okay, he's back. Now. I don't
know exactly where in the sentence youwere at when you cut off which time,
Chandler, but just continue where youare. Yeah, I think Jeremy
(01:37:24):
Payne is improvements last year that haven'treally gone talked about as much. I
think the if he can carry thoseover and these new swing, these new
stance adjustments and things can get hhitting the ball a line with more power
and you know, hitting the ballharder, getting more barrel rate, getting
a higher barrel rate, then youknow, you get him on base.
You know, he's the fastest guyon the team, he should probably be
(01:37:45):
stealing more bases, and you gethim that's a threat on the Jake Myers
is hitting night. That's the samesort of thing. You can kind of
see a situation there where looks youlike me able to see the situation that
you won't be able to hear it. And unfortunately that's where our time with
Chandler is going to come to aconclusion. Do you think we're having phone
(01:38:05):
issues or is this just a oneoff. Well, I'm I'm a nice
guy. I'm gonna say it's onour end. Okay, Well, I
don't think it's on his end whenit sounds I was just trying to make
myself look good. I know it'son our end. I know it's on
our sounds like that. It's rarelyon the other person's end. So now
we appreciate the time this week withchandeler Rome of the Athletic and we got
some bombshell news for you guys herefrom Astros spring training. The Astros are
(01:38:30):
That's that would be unfortunate, iswhat that would be. All Right,
we will get back to what weusually do this time of day, which
is, in case you missed it, get to some of the things we
have not talked about. But inthe meantime, I got to tell you
one more time about something else. You need to get to Alvin, Texas.
And why would you go down toAlvin right about now or anytime throughout
the year. Well, because that'swhere UVC Power Sports, Tractors and Outdoors
(01:38:54):
is located, and Rodeo is here. Spring is in the air. That
means it's time to get on overto UVC Power Sports Tractors and Outdoors.
Matter of fact, check out theirinventory online before you go down there,
just to see what you're in for. UVC one Stop dot Com. Now,

UVC Power Sports Tractors and Outdoors.Check out that inventory on their website

Kawasaki ridge down there at UVC.When it comes down to it, it's
business in the front, it's partyin a back because stone Cold said Stove.
Adam and Adam, Well, I'msorry, Adam won in top building,
So excuse me here, Adam andAdam eighteen eighty Back to Adam Clinton
(01:40:23):
at Adam Wexler on Sports Talk sevenninety. Let's get right to it in
case you missed it. A handfulof items you've not had a chance to
get too worthy of our time anddiscussion. Mean, yeah, you are
what do we got? I'll haveto find out what it was during the
break home you will. Oh,there was a television broadcast going on in
(01:40:44):
the Worldwide Leader. They're getting readyto do an NBA report with an NBA
reporter, and Adam opened his mouthand then I started talking on the radio.
Wonderful. All right, Well, something else that's on ESPN, the
Pat McAfee show. And yesterday weplayed a little bit from it yesterday as
yeah, people can't talking about Patright, but in this case right here,
Dalton Schultz, Now we played whathe said about playing for the Cowboys
(01:41:05):
as opposed to playing for the Texansnow and also to what he thinks of
Demiico, he does, yeah, but what does he also think of the
Texans organization? And some people ifyou had said somebody would say this about
the Texans a year ago, theymight have thought you were crazy. The
strength staff is phenomenal. The trainingstaff is unbelievable. This has been the
(01:41:28):
most like trainers that I've ever seenon the staff, and they take really
amazing care of the players. Thenutrition staff is phenomenal. The chefs they
like they came in and they poachedlike five of the best chefs in the
Houston area, and they paid thema bunch more and they're like, come,
you know, come hang out andcook for us. And so it's
like everything that they kind of dois really top notch, and you know,
(01:41:51):
not being sure of like how anotherorganization would kind of be on leaving
Dallas, like I was so happy. Now we've heard of heal promos,
but that one is a good promo. Yeah, kind of the best thing
you alluded to it, Dan,was how most people would feel about a
comment like that, and Pat wasno different. He's like, no,
(01:42:13):
no, not can't be a yearago at this time this franchise a laughingstock,
a joke, total disarray, chaos, dysfunctional. You can change things
in the NFL. It is possible. Heck, it happens all the time.
You go from worse to first andagain. That's what's to me so
awesome about the NFL for the fans, and it's set up to be this
(01:42:36):
way. It's a hate that it'sa Bill O'Brien line, but it is
true, and it lends it tothe parody of this league. It's a
five hundred league. You can gofrom the last worst team in your division,
last place to first place overnight.Literally. The Texas just did it
in twenty twenty two to twenty twentythree, and someone else will probably do
it this year, and somebody elsewill do it next year. It's it's
(01:42:58):
commonplace, the first place from deadplace. But think about the word we
always use in the NFL that welaugh at all the time. It's the
culture word. Yep, Like theTexans culture did clearly change overnight. But
it's funny when you're talking about itand you know it's either still bad or
it's not going anywhere. You know. David Caully talked about culture, but
(01:43:19):
he can't do anything about it whenhe's evading questions about what's going on with
Deshaun Watson every third day over attraining camp practice. My favorite part ever
was when he was in the lockerroom and he said, we're all in
now. Nobody was into that.He won three games. Yeah, and
when he still comes in there anddoesn't have to say a word, I'd
still wonder if culture changed overnight onthe night he was hired, or if
(01:43:42):
culture really changed overnight the night thatthey drafted C. J. Stroud and
Will Anderson. Can this team believethey have great culture? If Demiko Ryans
went out last year with insert veteranbackup and Davis Mills and the rest of
the team that they had and theywere six and eleven with much better football
but they still didn't win, wouldwe be definitive about they what they did
(01:44:05):
was they changed the culture, They'llget the wins, they'll find their quarterback,
and things will be great. Orwould we still be saying, well,
I mean, the culture is notthat great. If you're doing the
things the right way, then theanswer to that is yes, but it's
a lot more fun. The waythey did it, certainly is what else
we got. So we're huge fansof awkward moments during press conferences, right,
(01:44:28):
I mean, surely when you loseyour voice and Dukes John Shire and
Nolan Smith are at the podium, there's some regional action here in Houston at
an Energy Stadium years ago, orhypothetically, I was gonna say, what
about the guy that angered coach kwith a question and he was like,
all right, I'm sorry and hejust like passed the mic. I think
that happened that very same regional aswell. But no, in this case
(01:44:51):
right here, it actually is timelybecause it involves the NCAA tournament. What
are we talking about this time ofthe year. Projections, who's in,
who's out? All those different typesof things. Joe Lenardi, everybody liked
that. Well, somebody had aprojection question for Rick Patino, and let's
just say it got kind of awkward. Rick, I saw a projection that
had you guys in date in facingyour brother. What would you think of
(01:45:14):
my brother? I'm sorry, yourson son, what would you think of
that? My brothers both passed away. God rest his soul, But sorry,
Richard, I don't know if hiseither of his brothers were named Richard,
but Richard his son is still aliveand as the head coach at New
Mexico. I don't know either, but I'm going to take an educated guess
(01:45:39):
that neither of Richard Patino's brothers alsowere named Richard. Did that. I'm
almost surprised that the media and andRick delivered it with a little bit of
lightheartedness. When he said there haveboth passed away, there was a moderate
chuckle from the assembled media that wasjust uncomfortableness manifesting itself. Your son,
(01:46:03):
your son, I mean your son. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll
stop talking now. I'm kind ofa little bit amazed that we have had
as much Rick Patino talk this seasonbecause his team is awful, and we
haven't just been talking about how awfulthey are. We talked about how he
went on a rant the other day. We've now got this and I didn't
(01:46:26):
think it was a very good ideato bring him back, And even though
it's only year one, I don'tthink it was a good idea to bring
him back to the college bench.Has the game has I mean, we
talk about it on the football sideso much, wire coaches getting out there's
a huge element of that nil andtransfers and recruiting and all the other things
(01:46:47):
you have to do on the basketballside, for sure, so I would
say, yes it has I meanhe can still recruit, right, Why?
Oh my god, I can't believeI'm playing for this legend? What's
his again? That's true? Whatelse we got? All? Right?
Final one here? So the boothwhere Tony soprano may or may not have
been whacked, well, it soldfor eighty two thousand dollars to a mystery
(01:47:12):
buyer, as it was at Holstein's, which is a diner there in Jersey.
So it kind of begs the questionfor both of you, guys,
movie or TV show, prop oranything that if you could get your hands
on, money is not an issue. What are we going with Airwolf?
You want the Chopper? I wantthe whole thing? Yeah, the chopper?
(01:47:32):
The problem is it crashed and killedpeople in real life in Germany.
So I'll take a scaled But whywhy that chopper? Why not the actual

mean to me, a prop Youthink I don't want some piece of if
not the full t one thousand?Yeah, I'll take Freddy's original glove,
(01:47:59):
which was licing and dicing people onthe set because it was so sharp.
That's a good one. There's alot of stuff like that that I would
I kind of feel like it wouldbe cool to have the Monte Carlo from
training day, would be right rate. I was going that very route,
but I was going to take Jefferson'scar from Fast Times at Ridgemont High pre
(01:48:19):
accident, okay, pre accident beforehis dad's awesome set of tools sixty exactly.
He's the TV repair man. Ofcourse he had an awesome set of
tools. What about ultimate set oftools? The ultimate set of tools?
What about the uh? Was ita sixty two Lincoln convertible that was used
in JFK? What about that? What about Michael Scott's seabring right, the
(01:48:42):
one that it was a convertible thathe rolled up listening to Lady Gaga and
said, it's Britney, bitch.Wouldn't you actually have chosen Dwight's car over
Michaels. Yes, the trans amthat he cuked on the back of after
he got concussed. Yep, whywas he rushing out again? I forgot
someone was hurt? Michael had burnedhimself on the George Foreman, grill right,
and probably need to play that audiobefore the end of the show about
(01:49:08):
why that happened? All right?Same question, making Dark Star from Top
Gun Too the whole thing now hedisintegrated it over the so think thinking about
how they took decades to have survived. It took decades for Top Gun two
to come out. Yeah, Scott'sseabring right, the one that it was
(01:49:30):
a convertible. He rolled up listeningto Lady Gaga and said, it's Britney,
bitch. Wouldn't you actually have chosenDwight's car over Michaels. Yes,
the trans am that he puked onthe back of after he got concussed.
Yep, why was he rushing outagain? I forgot someone was hurt.
Michael had burned himself on the GeorgeForeman, grill right, and probably need

to play that audio before the endof the show about why that happened,
all right, same question, makingDark Star from Top Gun Too the whole

to have survived. It took decadesfor Top Gun two to come out.
(01:50:16):
So I think they realized, ifwe've waited this long, we better kill
it with what we've produced. AndI think we all thought the movie was
very good, But it really hasto do with how did the movie start.
It really needs to start with abang. It was great, It
was good. That was really reallygood. Way, I told you that
I saw that movie four different timesin the theater, in four different formats.
Right, yes, the last timeI saw sat on laser disc beta
(01:50:40):
max VHS in the theater. Whatis the matter with you? The last
time I saw it, it's AdobeTHHX and that question to this day,
I'm sorry. It's good ending becausewell, okay, it was better.
I'll tell you what. It wasa better last show than Seinfeld. True,
only just blah. Only Tony gotit, because that's the rules of
(01:51:04):
mafia hits. It's nobody else's problem. It's just his or or nobody got
it that. There was no whackingat a diner. That's why you dropped
the gun. You dropped the gunto signified everybody, Hey, I'm not
here for you, I'm only herefor him. I'll tell you this.
It was probably a lot more pleasantending that he got than the one that
happened in the cornfield in Casino withhis brother, right Malone. He's still
(01:51:25):
breathing. Stop making me laugh athis expense that he's getting beaten to dead
with a bat so bad that it'sa it's a robotic animatronic. They yanked
it off the stage at Chucky Cheese. Robot that's in the grave. Make
it a real person. Nobody thinksthey're going to get actually buried alive.
See, we were warned ahead oftime about Frank Vincent. You can't trust
(01:51:46):
phill Leotardo. That was a brutalscene to watch, though Phillyotardo, Joe
Peshi not type cast as Mafio. Those of those guys, weren't They all
in the Sopranos at one point exceptfor Joe, of course, because he
wasn't doing anything until he decided,Oh, I know what I'll do now
it's been a while, I'll makea five hour movie for Netflix called The
Irishman, which was really good butstill too long. All right, thirty
(01:52:12):
minutes in the show to go hereon a Thursday edition of The at We're
gonna decipher players tweets the ex platform. We used to do this with Deshaun
Watson and his rapp lears. Theywere often cryptic. These are just some
that we got to put our mindsto it. You guys as well figure
out what do they mean by this, and hopefully none of them have to
do with anything ilicit or illegal. We will find out, all right.
(01:52:36):
What we're also going to find outright now is how long it's going to
take you to call this telephone numberseven one three nine three fifty two eighty
five. Seven one, three, nine three fifty two eighty five. You
know what that number is? Thenumber for QC Kinetics, not one,
not two, not three, butfour Houston area locations, the Woodlands,
the Heights and Sugarland and now Cyprusas well added to the stable of well,

these are facilities that are going tohelp you with joint pain the right
way. No surgery is going tobe involved. Instead, a much better
alternative. It's the best alternative.Cutting edge technology is regenerative medicine. And
again you want to go where theyhave been at it and doing it better
than anybody out there because they're atthe forefront of it. Cutting edge technology,
Nation's leader in regenerative medicine. We'retalking about lasting joint pain relief with

a part of that group. Happythat you'll become a part of that group
when you make that phone call toQC Kinetics so you can say goodbye to

fifty two eighty five for q SEEKinetics. Hey Sparky from the Astros broadcast
team, catch every Astros game ofsports to and iHeartRadio ASP Home of your
Astros. Head into the X platformhere on the A team. Today,
(01:54:08):
the NFL free agent period is notquite underway, but players are available.
Some players two teams already based onthe manner of their transaction, or if
they're still re signing with their formerteam, like the Texans did with Dalton
Schultz, like the Texans did withKayemi Fairber. We saw Jalen Johnson go
(01:54:28):
from being tagged by the Chicago Bearsfranchise tag to reaching a deal on an
extension today four years, seventy sixmillion dollars for one of the elite members
of their secondary certainly around the NFL, a great cornerback, and we'll possibly
see another deal like that. Fewother deals have been signed. One of
the interior linemen for the Jaguars,as we Cleveland signed a fairly lucrative deal
(01:54:50):
earlier today. Maybe helps set themarket for others that are on that same
track and at that same position. And of course, we have a lot
of interesting messages posted by players onsocial media during this period of time.
We'll start with the I think easierone to decipher, and like I said
earlier, if you're following along onthe on the program, we'll send out
(01:55:13):
a show tweet each's day, alittle hashtag there today says what does this
post mean? Or what does thatpost mean? Because there are a couple
that I thought we needed some discussion. You guys can help me out here.
I'm not real good at this.So if the Texans number one receiver
took to the X platform and crankedout this post, what's he talking about?
What does he mean? Oh mygoodness? Or whoopee? What do
(01:55:33):
we have here? Nico Collins withthe replies off said, bleep ain't happen
overnight with the rocket emoji? Thebleep is obviously a it's the S word,
so bleep ain't happen overnight. Ishe referring to the turnaround of the
(01:55:54):
Texans. Is he referring to continuingto build the offense with CJ? Is
he referring to ongoing negotiations with NickCaserio about a lucrative contract extension or something
else or d done of the above. I thought we needed some discussion.
You guys can help me out here. I'm not real good at this.
So if the Texans number one receivertook to the X platform and cranked out
(01:56:17):
this post, what's he talking about? What does he mean? Oh?
My goodness? Or whoopee? Whatdo we have here? Nico Collins with
the replies off said, bleep ain'thappen overnight with the rocket emoji? The
bleep is obviously a it's the Sword, so bleep ain't happen overnight.
(01:56:40):
Is he referring to the turnaround ofthe Texans. Is he referring to continuing
to build the offense with CJ?Is he referring to ongoing negotiations with Nick
Aserio about a lucrative contract extension orsomething else or d done of the above.
I think when did he tweet thistoday? Twelve twenty one pm.
(01:57:01):
I tend to think it's contractually wow. You think he divulged in a tweet
about things not happening overnight? Wasa reference to, Yeah, we're working
on our contract, but I justwanted to put out a five word tweet
with an emoji to let you guysknow, we'll think about what how about
we're in right now? How abouthe was here? First head coach Dave
(01:57:25):
terrible embarrassing, Second head coach loveyreputable Texans have agreed to a four year
contract extension giving him better than thirtynine million in guaranteed dollars. All right,
take that. Now we go toyour second favorite team. Got some
household love tea and the rest ofthe crew loving on those casey chiefs.
(01:57:47):
Yep, they tagged Jerry Snead. He may or may not be back.
He's probably also not even their numberone corner even though he's awesome because Trent
McDuffie is very very good. Couldbe moved. But it's the other guy
that wasn't tagged that is probably numberone defensive interior defensive lineman available when we
get to free agency. I mentionedhow much you should have already liked him,
(01:58:09):
since his handle on the X platformis at stone Cold Jones love it.
So have you upgraded to the newiPhone fifteen? Not the phone itself,
no software, I think I have. The upper portion of those phones
has a new little notification bar thatWillow magic bar. I can't quite realize
(01:58:32):
what it's called, but whatever's happeningon your phone, it's just right up
there. He did a screen capof his phone with a picture from their
Super Bowl celebration, and it happenedto be him laying on the turf,
super excited with Andy Reid leaning overthe top of him and as they celebrate.
(01:58:53):
But the screen cap of his phonethat he posted also shows that he's
in the midst of a one hourphone call. Oh it says kse dot
dot dot dot dot dot dot withthat picture otherwise uncaptioned. And of course
the responses here are exactly my point. What do you mean put this man
(01:59:14):
in the Twitter troll Hall of Fame? One hour phone call? The deal
is done? What does this mean? Are you staying home eyeball emoji,
who's on the phone? What?I don't know. I don't know anything
typically what does this mean? Yeah? Hmmm. Also the gift of your
buddy stone Cold Steve Austin crushing twobeers with the been there, destroyed that
(01:59:42):
T shirt in ring. I justI don't know how I feel about christ
Johnson where he's telling everybody. I'vebeen on the phone with Andy and Brett,
their GM and we're working out thisdeal and we're just about they're at
the one yard line and he's goingto be bad, believe it or not.
(02:00:02):
I kind of think he's going backthere or he's just having fun,
and nothing could be further from thetruth. He's been on the phone with
his friend from high school for anhour. He forgot that he had called
somebody, and it's been leaving anhour long message on their not yet full
phone. I just think at hisage and with what just happened, and
(02:00:26):
the fact that the other that youknow that sneed has the non exclusive,
I just feel like they're giving hima if not a long long term deal,
they're locking him up. What again, what if he's just flat out
trolling, flat out he is onthe phone with management of his agency as
they get set to meet on Mondaywith the Bengals, with somebody with some
(02:00:48):
other team with massive cap space, could be like the Texans, it could
be. So your your final answers. He's he's he's being nice. He's
not trolling the Chiefs, he's trollingthe other thirty one. I think he's
staying in Kansas City because Carlos Koreanever did this with the Astros, and
(02:01:08):
Martin Maldonado, by proxy, neverdid this. Now we did have Correa
Coin though right here on Sports Talkseven nineties, Matt Thomas, we should
steal that bit and use it forsomething else here. Uhreman Bucks, Yes,
Reggy Bucks. Of course that wouldbe wild, that would be soulless.
You know we're gonna be doing Bregmannupdates every every year. Well,
(02:01:28):
once the season hits, will knowone thing for sure. He has told
them we're not negotiating anymore, orwe can negotiate in December though when the
stove is hot, well, thestove might be hot, and they also
might have just wrapped up their thirdparade a good one though this year,
like the worst of the two Astrosparades, the second one blows away the
(02:01:50):
only Rangers parade that wasn't a parade, that was a procession of people who
are dead inside. Unfun you justwon your only And this is what I
did. Everything about Arlington, Texas. Let's slap our stadiums in the middle
of this boring I got. Iwent into a Starbucks there and I fell
asleep. If we can get thatstadium, you know, like if you
(02:02:12):
build it, they will come.If we can get this done, if
Jerry Wild becomes a reality, wecan get fifty eight year old Mike Tyson
to fight here. You know,it's funny, which is happening in July.
If you missed it, I knowit's completely and I don't want to
say it's impossible, but like ifthey had put Jerry World downtown Dallas,
yeah where, Well that's what I'msaying. I hear the massive structure that
(02:02:35):
it is. But there is nomore egotistical move for Jerry Jones than to
literally change the sky the skyline ofDallas, Texas with his stadium. It
kind of surprises me that he didn'tdo that because it's not like they it's
not like the Giants. They justbuilt it next door to where the other
one was in the swamp. Itwas an Irvin irving. Hey, easy
(02:02:57):
on the swamp. That's where Soprano'sbody is. It's where a lot of
dan It got whacked at. That'sout there in the gee. I wonder
where Sill's taking me. Hmm,thanks for the ride, Like you would
have had a better shot flinging yourselfout of the moving vehicle on the Jersey
Turnpike. All moves to the woodsalmost fast enough to crawl through the woods,
(02:03:19):
faster than a bullet. Almost soclose. How about when they pull
up in the car and stop andhe's just talking to her still like it's
nothing, and she's like, I'mgonna die. She knows not very bright.
Adriana really hot though, follows Teresaon Instagram. Oh Drea, how
nice? Yep? All right, final segment of the A Team coming up
(02:03:40):

because they have for you a checkingaccount that they look They call it the
best checking account in Houston, andfrankly it is. I wouldn't tell you
that otherwise. But it's why itis. It's the reasons that it is.
It's what they put into it,because it's a checking account that gives
(02:04:02):
back to you. And if you'vegot a checking account that can do that,
you are in a very very goodspot. You're talking about earning up
to two percent interest. You're talkingabout extras that give you protection, give
you peace of mind, like darkweb monitoring or mobile phone protection. You're
talking about travel and leisure discounts. You're talking about shopping rewards, telehealth.
(02:04:25):
These are all things that Primeway FederalCredit Union said, all right, we'll
just throw those in. Like thechecking account's going to be there, we're
going to give you the best servicein town. Everything's going to be right

all of this extra stuff because we'rethat awesome. And on top of

roadside assistance thrown in. Go totheir website PRIMEWAYFCU dot com. There you're
gonna find a user friendly, easyonline application that will allow you to open
your account online. They care aboutgetting you the best to count available.
They offer three far more superior checkingaccounts out there against the competition. All
(02:05:05):
you have to do is go tothe website and get the ball rolling Primeway
FCU dot com. Visit PRIMEWAYFCU dotcom. Today, Adam Adam the eight
in the afternoon, what hey cameup with that idea? Possibly? Adam
went back to Adam Clinton at AdamWexlert on Sports Talk seven Breakfast and Ben,
(02:05:29):
I like waking up to the smellof bacon, sue me. And
since I don't have a butler,I have to do it myself, So
most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon
out on my George Foreman grill. You ever burned your foot on a George
Forman grill? Wex I have burnedmyself cooking. It's never been my foot.
(02:05:50):
Did anyone in your life that evenlike vaguely resembling a Dwight shrewd come
over to help you when that happened. No, No, I have not
needed anybody that I absolutely positively didnot want to help me. Say no,
no, no, no, I'mon my way. I will help
you, I am your guy. When he gets to work and he's got
(02:06:11):
the bubble wrap on is my favorite. Many good moments. Yeah, there's
a lot of those. What ashow. So we got some inevitable news
I think you'd agree from the NBAtoday. Okay, last two minute report.
One member of the Brooklyn Nets willin fact not return to the court
this season. Do you know thatis? Let me see is that the
(02:06:33):
guy who has always heard has backproblems is a total drama queen and should
never have been traded for it.And his name rhymes with Ben Simmons,
Ben Simmons and the nerve impingement. They're gonna need to look into it a
little bit more and he will notreturn to the court this season for the
Brooklyn Nets. Every single time BenSimmons is in the news, good,
(02:06:55):
bad, or otherwise, and it'susually not good. It's usually otherwise or
bad, but it's usually mostly bad. Can't help but returned to his own
brother, who was very prominent inthe media and still is Bill Simmons.
It's not his brother. Oh okay, Bill Simmons unrelated to his comments at
(02:07:15):
the time, and there are manythat agreed with him as evidenced by some
of the responses from three years ago. When this all went down, the
Rockets were obviously compelled to move onfrom James Harden real quick. Before you
go any further, I'm just goingto guess, because I've forgotten he said
the most stupid, asinine way thatthe Rockets should go about things continue.
(02:07:36):
There were few more options and acouple of iterations of what might go down,
but essentially it came to our discussionsevery day on the show. Should
they trade him for draft picks, should they try to get one cornerstone type
player, what's the play here, and if they ultimately end up moving him
to one of his teams of choice, Brooklyn being among them, what's the
(02:07:57):
package coming back? And as weknow, they traded him for a host
of unknown future assets in the wayof draft picks, one of which will
pay off this year when they receiveBrooklyn's unprotected first round pick. Brooklyn is
bad. Brooklyn is not head ofthe playoffs. Brooklyn does not clean and
launder a jersey and leave it inthe locker of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant
(02:08:18):
or James Harden. So making atrade for the future assets first round picks
or swaps from the Brooklyn Nets whowere headed to turmoil. Was good?
Bill Simmons thought otherwise, And Iquote, if I was a Rockets fan,
I would be outraged they could havehad Ben Simmons, a top twenty
five guy who been the first orsecond best player on a perennial contender.
(02:08:41):
Now all we got is this biopsandwich. Thanks as usual, Bill Simmons,
for not knowing anything about what you'retalking about at any given time.
I knew they got it right atthe time. You guys can check the
tape. You know you can getit right when you go to Berkeley Ice
Center and you're gonna get that twentytwenty vision. But if you do it,
if you go right now, you'regoing to get leap year savings.
(02:09:03):
Because they love leap here so much. They're giving away savings that only comes
around once every four years, andthey're doing that for you at Berkeley I
Center. I was talking to somebodythe other day about doing this. They're
kind of on the fence. ShouldI get it done? How was it
for you? Yes, yes, yes, and yes, and yes,
absolutely do it. It's the bestdecision you will make. Twenty twenty vision
savings that come around once every fouryears to go with it. Get the
