Two lifelong Houston sports guys named athim talking your team series, Adam Clinton
and Adam Wexler or d A teamA and Tucker hits it high in the
ear, a deep to right field, whose shard is back at the wall

(00:23):
looking up see Atlanta. He hoversfor the second straight things headed is tuning
up the Gastros. How two baybreaks one the left. Why the guy
there? Jones way up there? One two curve got him strike three chasing.
Here's the three two breaker got himstrike three Outd's got it strike three.

(00:46):
Another bender and a good one forpromper striking out the side. Chapega
has driven the left field back onit. Nolan Jones still going and that's
in the bullpen for a homer.May third jack of the year. Over
ground ball down the third base line. Regman has it on the back Anthos

that is grounded hard past the diveof McMahon and down the left field line,

(01:33):
you, and that is the ballgame. The Houston Astros break out the brooms
in Mexico City, sweeping this twogame series from the Canada Rockies. And
there you have it, just aswe expected when the least successful team on
their schedule was their opponent. Welcometo the eighteen on a Monday afternoon edition

(02:00):
of the program. It's great tobe with you here today. It was
with you on a Friday night toroll through some draft coverage, and it
took place Saturday. And now we'vegot a new class of players for the
Texans, and maybe, just maybe, the Astros have a new class of
players taking the field each and everyday, beginning on Tuesday with the Cleveland

(02:21):
Guardians coming to town and the Astroslooking for a three game winning streak,
Plenty of offense, plenty of pitching, sound baseball, and it resulted in
ws both Saturday and Sunday right hereon Sports Talk seven to ninety for the
last two games of a long eightgame road trip for the Astros. Did

(02:42):
not go well. In each ofthe first two stops, and it went
splendidly in the final stop. Asmentioned, they got everything they thought they
would get on an everyday basis thisyear, with plenty of home runs,
plenty of good starting pitching, avery good bullpen work from those that they
need to be very very good.Late yesterday afternoon, news broke Ari Alexander

(03:05):
first with it that the Astros,as noted by today's show tweet which I'm
sure you saw, the Astros startingtomorrow and they even announced the news today
a day in advance of the moveneeding to be made, corresponding move will
have to be made. The Astrosare now in their low perfedo era.
They are going to do something different. We'll have to wait and see what
it is. I've got some ideason what they should be doing with the

(03:28):
twenty sixth man, with the fortyman. Trey Cabbage was not really a
part of this decision. As youknow, he was part of the team
in the games in Mexico City andeven announced his presence with authority driving in
an early run. But because ofthose games special to the Mexico City series
are allowed to carry edition position playerwithout it having a real impact on the
roster, and he now is backas a part of the space Cowboys mentioned.

(03:52):
The draft took place Thursday night formost teams, all but three,
Texans being one of them. Fridaynight, Texans landed three players. Had
a chance, along with Stan andDan to talk to you guys about that
on Friday night, But now ouropportunity to do that here and then Saturday
the Texans selected one player and abunch of others, and so we will
talk about them as well as weget rolling here on a Monday edition of

(04:15):
the show. All right, that'sa lot for me to unpass. I
know I had a lot to say. It's you. Five weekends are big,
five straight minutes. You just likethere's a chance in h double hockey
sticks. They were out on time. I knew that you would take a
shot at them, which I didnot mind at all, because you don't
have long five minutes of blabbing whileyou're sitting there staring at me, going
will you stop? It wasn't fiveminutes. It's like my marriage is come

(04:39):
to work. This is why Mondayis just a different version of my marriage.
I do have a case of themondays. I like mondays why I
will away from everybody for so longwhen you're on vacation and this stuff bottled
up with your family and you can'tstand the fact that you can't talk about
it the following day on the radiobecause you're at this stupid Grand Canyon or
this STUPI bit others. Totally right, it's just a metal all right,

(05:02):
So a couple things, but youdidn't even mention the most like I'm not
didn't have to get it all outright out of the game. Take Dell
got shot this weekend. That's Idon't know what to say. I know,
I mean not accurate, So you'renot it is accurate. Well,
he's suffer like he wasn't as Iunderstand it. There was a shooting and
he was injured. But is itdefinitely a gunshot or was it like trapnel

(05:27):
or did he get That's what I'mtrying to say, and what a vague
I mean. The Texans statement statementis fine because all most people were aware
of the incident right long before theywere aware of his just being there for
it. Because this was a shootingwhere yeah to ten people and right the
incident that was allegedly performed by asixteen year old kid. By the way,

(05:53):
Yeah, just keep this in mind. The Texans drafted you know,
three players on Friday night, anotherfive on Saturday with three trades, and
the most recent tweet from NFL Draftweekend from the Texans is unfortunately statement about
Tank Dell like I want this guyin bubble wrap it. He wouldn't do
anything wrong by all accounts, justin the wrong place at the wrong time.

(06:15):
But this guy's recovering. He isabsolutely a key to whatever the Texans
hope they're going to do from asuccess standpoint moving forward. I don't care
who they've brought in free agency orwho they drafted, Tank Dell must be
protected at all costs. I'm noteven making a joke. Yeah, just
a lot to unpack from the weekend. First of all, if the Astros

(06:36):
turn around and get swept at homeby the Cleveland Guardians, who with all
these warm and fuzzies we got fromsouth of the border, can just go
to h double hockey sticks themselves.I don't think it'll happen, but I'm
not as excited as everybody else abouttwo wins over the crappy Rockies. When
in Mexico City, when you're thisbad. You'll take what you can get.

(06:57):
You've got to get them. Itdoesn't matter who it's against until you
start getting into the analysis which we'renow in. They need them. I
mean, what if they didn't getthem. If you want a seven and
twenty one team at your ballpark tomorrow, they have to win games. And
yes, what does it mean? And are they going to parlay it into
something? And what did we seethat we haven't seen before that really should
be here? They came back downto not just like Colorado only had to

(07:20):
drop down two thousand miles or twothousand feet excuse me of elevation, the
Astros dropped down seven thousand plus featsof elevation back to Houston. Actually going
through the physics of like it camedown to forty three feet would have been
the home run that I can't rememberwho hit because so many went out of

(07:42):
Parkal Tucker's launch angle was not homerun worthy in the States or in every
ballpark in the major leagues. Isnot the world probably considering how were you
could probably get into the semantics theywere, Yeah, that that ball just
kept carrying and carrying and Jordon hitone and two four hundred and sixty one
foot homers in the same game, probably not exactly the same, but they

(08:07):
needed it. You got another homerun from Jeremy Pania. You added on
both in Saturday's game and in Sunday'sgame and made it that much more relaxing
for whichever arms you gave the ballto. After the two good starts,
both games were started and pitched. You got the kind of start that you
needed, and in both cases itshould matter. This is not a place

(08:28):
for pitchers, and Renel Blanco lookedexactly like he did over his first He
left after five and two thirds, and we have another two days of the
month which he will not pitch in. I don't think there's any way an
American League Pitcher of the Month awardcan't come his way, but we'll get
to that in a minute. Theother start was probably even more important,
because as the game wore on,it looked more and more like the Framber

(08:52):
Valdez that belongs to get the ballat the front end of a rotation.
He was kind of working his waythrough things. It's nice to see him
pitch as well as he did foras long as he did without the need
for a rehab start and it's hardto believe it these days with all these
injuries going down, but you hearthe way that Justin Verlander comes to spring
training and says he's got a hiccup, but no real injury, and eight

(09:13):
weeks later or more, a littlebit more, he's on the mound pitching
as if what he said was true, if doctor Verlander was right on it,
and they treated Framber Valdez similarly,he said all along he wasn't really
worried. He said he felt likeit was more fatigue than any other They
handled it like it was fatigue morethan anything else, and he went out
there like he could still pitch withoutall that much of an issue, and

(09:35):
even throwing very hard, getting themdeep enough into the game and honestly getting
a ton of swings and misses andkeeping the ball down. Essentially vintage Fromber.
And that's those are the things,a couple of the things that obviously
can be replicated when they come backto the States, which they are.
They have series against two very goodteams. The Mariners have been playing very

(09:58):
well. They've got one of thebest bullpens in baseball, and Julio Rodriguez,
after a miserable start is hitting theball. Well, that's Friday,
Saturday, Sunday first Up starting tomorrow. Is the best team in the Central
Division, in a division that's maybea little bit better than people think or
give them credit for. But theyare also a team out of the bullpen
especially it pitches very very well.Astros. Again, they have to get

(10:22):
wins if they want the final handfulof months of this season to be exciting
and fun and worthwhile to challenge.Do you consider the Twins a good baseball
team? I mean, if youwin seven games in a row, that's
probably a pretty decent sign that youare. Okay, do you think the
Tigers are a good baseball team?If they have no more pitching injuries,

(10:46):
they can probably hang on, Butthey don't have enough depth, and it
just feels like they'll they'll slow down. But they're probably gonna be around five
hundred this year. Okay, Sowe both agree that the Royals are a
good baseball team. We've seen thatfirsthand, yep. And it's not a
fluke because the record says as much, and the Guardians have one of the
best records in the American League.I just named four of the five teams
that are not called the Chicago WhiteSox in that division, which just a

(11:09):
year ago was a dog lick division. Well, the real problem for Houston
is who's bad besides the White Sox. Nobody, whole league nobody, Because
the AL East is stacked, right, the next worst team, if we're
at least not saying the Astros,it's Mike Trout's team, They're still one
of the worst teams, and theAstros hopefully will take advantage of that.

(11:31):
Well, they're only a game backof the Angels. Who's only a game
back? Oh h yeah, okay, And but the A's are obviously won't
right, they won't be in lastplace for much longer. We maybe maybe,
but yeah, every team in theAL East is at least competitive.
I know the Blue Jays have stumbleda little bit and are dipping under five
hundred. Red Sox pitching has beengood enough to keep them above UH level.

(11:54):
And the Yankees have gotten almost nothingfrom Aaron Judge all year and they're
still or Garrett Cole, literally nothingfrom Garrett Cole, and they're right up
there at the top of the standings. Baltimore is obviously going to continue to
I think eventually take over that division. But yes, if you're playing against
American League competition, it's going tobe a very good team. And it's
clear on the other side of it, they cannot wait to face the Astros

(12:18):
for the first time in forever. And the they is everybody, everybody because
they want to get their licks in. And if you're one of those people
on social media saying finally cheaters gettingwhat's coming to him, as my esteemed
colleague, his name is Adam Wexler. He's standing about ten feet from me
right now, said, oh,yeah, that's right. Karma just waiting
around for like five years to finallyforce itself. It was inevitable that Renelle

(12:43):
Blanca would get hit by this karma, this cheating karma, that Jerry Payne
was going to get hit by thiskarma. It's clear that Jose Brey is
getting hit by karma. Yeah, you're on Alvarez karma. I mean,
look, here's the deal. Ifyou really want to be that dumb,
because that's what you're being, youwant to turn it into that. Okay,
why would why would Karma, thismythical creature, just sit around and

(13:05):
wait while they win another World Series? Oh okay, that's what it is
well after seven straight ALCS runs andfour World Series appearances and two wins.
That's fine if Karma wants to takeover now, I'm good with. None
of that stuff is off the table. It's still April. Oh absolutely.
By the way, the Astros mightjust be one game back of the Angels,

(13:26):
but they're only six back of firstplace in their own division and it's
still April. As wex mentioned,so yeah, obviously a ton to get
into here on a Monday final Mondayof April edition of the A Team Is
twenty twenty four continues to fly byback to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler the
eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety whereRockets and Astros play and Real Texans talk.

(13:52):
The Houston Texas select Kamari Last defensiveback Georgia. The Houston Texas select
Blake Fisher tackle Notre Dame. TheHouston Texans select Kaylen Bullet defensive back usc
Did you said Texan select Cage Stover, tight end Ohio State. That's how

(14:18):
you get people fired up about adraft pick in the middle of a Saturday
afternoon. Yeah, try him outthere in an old Jersey. Come on,
Texans, you've done everything right thislast three hundred and sixty five days
plus. You couldn't hook him upwith a new news threat. Clearly was
worn. Yeah, worn as innot it wasn't on him. I mean
it was worn, but sketch verypopular influencer and wymer point two million Instagram

(14:43):
follow ups. So he was outat I think it was Friday night's game.
He was at the Tigers game inadvance of his Saturday availability at the
draft, and he was wearing youknow, they gave him a Tiger jersey
of course, but he was wearingTexans gear again. And obviously he and
CJ have a relationship now so manyof these guys. He was with them
in LA as they were going througha lot of their workouts, and that's
why I think he was attached tothem here. So it's good, good

(15:07):
addition to the squad. If yousay it was probably the fifth best addition
to the squad over the past coupleof weeks, those four names you heard
would be the other four we'll getto the players drafted after cad Stover went
to the Texans in the fourth round. One of the trades the Texans made
as they bumped up a handful ofspots to pick one of the players I

(15:28):
mentioned early Saturday, I said theTexans might be looking one of these three
players, but we shall see, because really hard to pinpoint what Nick Cassero
might do in a fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh round knowing that he's
probably not gonna draft where their pickis sitting. The first of those picks
that he did not draft where theyoriginally held was the last pick of Friday

(15:48):
night. That was a trade up, but as you heard them there in
order. Kamari Lassiter, a cornerback, likely headed to the slot position for
the Texans coming from Georgia. BlakeFish, sure right tackle, the last
two years starter for Notre Dame, joins the Texans, probably with hopes of
him emerging as their swing tackle eventhis season, ahead of anybody else they

(16:12):
have, and they have a coupleof other tackles in the fold. Calen
Bullock, safety from southern California, still probably forecasts as a safety with this
team. He could probably fill somespots elsewhere, but I think initially based
on what they've said and based onwhat I've seen, that's where he will

(16:33):
attempt to get onto the field forthe Texans. Here during his rookie season,
and the last player you heard,of course, was Cade Stover.
He has caught almost as many passesfrom CJ. Stroud as anybody else he
joins, more than Dalton Schultz. He is a part of the Ohio State
Buckeye tradition. Came over from thedefensive side of the football at Ohio State,
transformed himself into a tight end, big, physical, powerful, developmental

(17:02):
player who's already very good. Nota developmental player. You take off the
undrafted free agent hopes and figure outnobody will pick him up when we waive
him. We can put them onthe practice squad, and two years from
now maybe he'll have some value. He has value for this team immediately.
He has every hopes and they haveevery hope of him being the second best
tight end on the roster at theonset of this upcoming season, if not

(17:22):
more so over the next handful ofgames and seasons. Dalton Schultz obviously did
re sign with this team, butto me, those are the four players
that almost are very likely to havea say in this year's Texans team and
for the next three years of eachof their respective contrasts in contracts. In
contrast, to the additional players theyselected over the remainder of the draft,

(17:45):
almost all of whom were I wouldsay, players they specifically wanted. And
as Nick has shown the last severalyears, it's not going to match up
with anybody else's board, because thesewere all players that probably would have been
available twenty thirty, forty to fiftypicks later, or even potentially an undrafted

(18:06):
free agency. But they specifically wantthe things that they do special teams.
Maybe maybe all of them practice squad. I'm not sure that any of them
have a spot on the team,so focusing on a first four probably the
most worthwhile endeavor. I will notdo it unless I have to. Okay,
put an actual grade on the texts. I can analyze it all you

(18:27):
want. I can tell you theimportant stuff. I don't need to attach
a letter with a minus or aplus to it. And I mentioned this
to you on Friday. When thesedraft grades come out, I mean there
is a huge scale. I cango into class at any university or high
school or elementary school even and Ican take a test. They have a
wide range of grades to give me. I could get a forty three,

(18:49):
I could get a ninety seven, but when you're handing out draft grades and
there's thirty two teams nobody likes givingfs and you certainly can't get below an
F. I mean even n Fminus is in the high sixties. It
seems like watch the draft. Yeah, why can't you get a twenty six?
Why can't some draft greater as asinineas this might be hand out a

(19:11):
twenty six to the Indianapolis Colts andthe Chargers they got a forty seven.
This is a horrible draft class. The Atlanta Falcons gotta pay minus for their
first round pick. That stands forpathetic. That would be clever. Wow,
I thought it's stand for Phoenix.Yet well to pronounce it incorrectly for
effect? Right? But yeah,to me, the Texans. If you

(19:32):
want to know what other people think, and people who again spend a lot
of time on draft players, theprospects, how they fit, know a
lot about the NFL. You canput any stock you want into it.
But I can assure you you areprobably not going to see very many lofty
marks for this group. Well, let's start with the obvious first and foremost.
And I know that you'll agree withme when I say this, did

(19:55):
you did it? Happen. I'mgonna ask you and everybody else's question,
did it happen to you? Didit? And everybody else there? Did
you get caught up? Did youget caught up in the war room footage
where everybody's high fiving and hugging andsmiling, and it's just they've they've acted
like they've just picked the next greatestthing. Every war room did that the
other night. And I'm not sayingthere's anything wrong with it, but it's

(20:18):
just, you know, this iswhy going back to what you're saying about
attaching grades or not or well,I find it so, I mean,
I get it, but I'd ratheranalyze it than try to figure out what
to put on it. And actually, well, I go even further,
and you know this, and I'vesaid this, I've been on the record
about this. It's just I don'tyou can be the greatest prospect on the

(20:41):
college football level going into the NFLof all time and it doesn't mean anything
until you start playing. And Ithere's there is no way to know that
it doesn't. There's nothing wrong withtrying to guess or you know, give
your educated analysis and all that kindof stuff, but at the end,
of the day. Like it's justit really is whether or not you can

(21:03):
play in the NFL. And theonly way you're gonna know if you can
play in the NFL is when youstart playing in the NFL. And I
know that sounds just ridiculously, butI can't help I'm like you, I
can't help it. I think it'shilarious and I'm not laughing at you specifically,
I just laugh in general this timeof year about how many people think
they know or have no clue.Like that's why I don't do it.

(21:23):
I just because when you're wrong. But these are pretty educated guesses for sure,
the top end of it. Andagain with the Texans draft specifically,
it's even more in that vein becauseyou didn't have a first rounder in my
choice right exactly, and I thinkwe would all take that considering what they're

(21:45):
trying to do this season, Yeah, exactly, but it means even more
as to whether or not people whoactually know what they're doing get it right
this time of year in these draftpicks. And but again, they're not
gonna know even until these kids startplaying. That's what there are kids.
Look at the Rockets. I mean, there's still kids and we're still waiting

(22:07):
on some of them. Well, those guys can enter the draft like five
seconds after high school. You gotright, a year out of high school,
basically an age over your graduating class. Business guys are at least three
years beyond that, right, Andisn't that even more impressive when you do
get it right that you have foundthe best of the more mature when it
comes to a young athlete at thelevel yeah, so hard. Yeah,

(22:30):
and at the NFL level because you'relooking at so many different spots and you
got a great the competition so well, and the NBA is learning a little
bit from you know, players thatplayed for I mean you go to high
school or private school, or you'rein an academy and then you go to
college for a year or two, maybe three, maybe four pretty unlikely but
maybe. Or now you go overseasor now you play for Overtime Elite,

(22:52):
or you play for G League Nite, which again is no longer after this
past season completed, and you're tryingto get well, who are they playing
against and how are they being coached? I don't know. And that's like
the other levels of college football thatpeople were trying to is their competition level
high enough. You know, TreyLance looked really awesome playing against his level
of competition. Does it translates tothe NFL? And more likely it's other

(23:14):
players like he was blowing people awayon the interior of their defensive line.
But is that something? And hopefullywhen you go to the senior ball,
when you do some of the otherthings, they get a little bit better
handle on it. I think everyteam would like to believe they know what
they're doing and their system for whatthey're specifically looking for matters. And honestly,
I think there were some interesting thingsfrom Nick Cassaria and Tamiko Ryans when

(23:34):
they were together Saturday after the draft, talking about some of the things that
go into with some of the thingsthat people ask questions about that sometimes we
know, but hearing them say it, I think provides a little clarity how
they go through things specific to theanalysis of the four players that I've mentioned
here that I do think matter tothis upcoming Texans team, and for sure,
for each of the following three yearsthey're gonna all those four players are

(23:56):
gonna have I think a significant roleon this team for the duration of their
four years. I'm not sure thatany of the others will even be Texans
for four years, but it's understandableat the point that you went after them
in the draft. So we'll getstarted on some of our thoughts and hear
from Jamiko Ryans, the players themselves, and Nick Cassario as we continue here.

(24:17):
It's Monday afternoon on the A team. It is Monday afternoon, which
means we're coming off of a weekend, and after you have gone through a
weekend like we just did here inHouston specifically, like everybody across the country
that has an NFL team was watchingall weekend long. But you know,
some of those markets might not havea Major League Baseball team like the Astros,

(24:37):
and some of those markets might nothave an NBA team or any other
thing that you would want to keepan eye on. Here's what it comes
down to. What were you watchingthe draft cover? Gjeoh, and what
was it fueled by? Was itthe infinity fast speeds, reliable connection and
power for all your devices coursing throughthe veins of your home. Yeah,
you heard what I said, youwant that in your veins. I heard

(25:00):
that expression before. That's what youwant Infinity to be with its walldwall Wi
Fi only on the Exfinity ten Gnetwork. If you were watching draft coverage,
if you were watching the Astros Southof the Border, or anything else,
I hope you're watching it with thewalldewall Wi Fi that can only come
on that ten G network provided byExfinity for a reliable connection throughout your entire

(25:22):
home. Doesn't matter how far orclose you are to the base. You
want to get that reliable connection. You're getting it, and you meaning new
customers Astros fans specifically through June twentyfirst, new customers can get started with
gigspeed Internet for twenty five bucks amonth for two years, with no animal
contract and free Wi Fi equipment included. When you add unlimited mobile. All

(25:45):
you have to do is one ofthese three options. You go to the
website Exfinity dot com, you cancall the number one eight hundred Exfinity,
or you can visit a store inperson. Today Exfinity proud sponsor of your
Houston Astros is Kyle Tucker. Catchevery Astros game on Sports Talk seven ninety

(26:06):
taker the Glo Glover and streaming onthe free iHeartRadio app. Monday after the
twenty twenty four NFL Draft edition ofthe eighteen Here on Sports Talk seven ninety
wexa see the show Killer Dan Matthewswith you taking up until six o'clock tonight.
No Astros game because they've worked hard. They need another off day and

(26:26):
travel day and all that good stuff. As we mentioned, you've got the
three game series with the Guardians startingtomorrow night. I think we might just
go down the Minute Made Park seeif we might not get a better look
with Wex's binoculars. It won Joeylow Perffito. It's low Perfedo Day.
That's what we're gonna call it tomorrow. It's a Coperfedo Day edition. Yeah,

(26:47):
I wonder if he's a part ofthe lineup tomorrow. I would imagine
that. Yes, if otherwise, there are probably no real impetus to make
the move, just to back upa step or two. I'm curious and
hopefully you'll have an answer for iteither tomorrow when Joeespota joins the Matt Thomas
Show or out at the ballpark withJoe and or Dana Brown. You had

(27:07):
the opportunity, even though additional movesbecause he's not a forty man player,
would have needed to be made,But you got to carry an extra player
position player in high altitude, offensefriendly Mexico City. Why didn't you just
take him down there? Why notjust take him down there where maybe it
is even easier to get a hitin your first at batter two or three

(27:30):
or four or five or whatever theydecided to do not only where you were,
but against whom you were playing. They don't have the two pitchers that
started those games. They weren't awful, but they certainly weren't good. The
Astros handled both of them. Andyour left hand or that you did bring
tray Cabbage did get a hit,and he doubled early and drove in that
early run. Just curious. Itcertainly would have made some sense. But

(27:52):
you're also now have the team winningtwo games. He gets to join the
team after there's a little less pressureof man, this team could not do
anything right, because they did spenda weekend doing pretty much everything right,
and so maybe that's a little bitto it. There does have to be
a corresponding made, both with theforty man roster and with the twenty six
man active roster. I don't thinkthere's too many tough decisions really to make.

(28:15):
It's just a matter of what dothey want to do they have Clearly,
when you're this poor, you probablyhave multiple options. It's not jose
A Brew For those that are wondering, I would be absolutely floored, and
I just don't think that makes anysense to do that right now with the
other things going on with this team. But it could be John Singleton.
I mean, from a forty manstandpoint, there's a couple other players Joel

(28:37):
Koonell could very easily be bumped offof the forty man roster, and then
it's just a matter of is itJohn Singleton is a great Kessinger. It's
probably down to those two players.Kessinger gives you much more positional infield,
positional flexibility. He also never plays. It's like what Sayzar Salazar did at
the beginning of last year when theycarried three catchers and then they never played

(28:57):
him. If you're never a plan, then obviously his roster spot's not particularly
valuable to have him on. Ita little bit limited in where low Perffito
can play. He has outfield flexibility, and obviously I think we plan on
seeing him at least some at firstbase. But either of those two moves
are fairly simple to make, youknow, Kessenger with options and can easily

(29:18):
be bumped off. John Singleton's valueto the organization as a whole is really
limited and probably a player that, even if he's taken off the forty man
probably passes through waivers, and ifhe really wanted to send him to sugar
Land, I think he would probablyaccept. Yeah, no, I what's

(29:40):
he gonna say? I hit thesuper home run, So I feel if
I want to join a different organizationand play for their Triple A team or
maybe the you know, the pathto being on the majors is a little
bit easier somewhere else. I'm guessinghe makes it through waivers, though,
Yeah, I would think he would. He just hasn't been on the field
very much and other teams have hadaccess to him many many times over over
the past almost decade to do so. There's a couple other players that are

(30:00):
with the Triple A team that couldbe you know, forty man possibilities if
they're trying to clear spaces. Butbut I don't think that. Again,
I mentioned Joel Coonell because it couldn'tbe any easier. He means nothing personally,
Yes, he's a swell fellow, but I mean those are players that
should not be holding down forty manroster spots. He did. He was
in the the pantheon of Astro's callups that were made during the you're pitching

(30:23):
today and then you're going down tomorrow, so you can bring a new picture
up tomorrow because we're going to needthem tomorrow because we're burning through arms like
nobody's business. And the player likethat. Again, very easy to make
a move. Well, and lookwith Fromber's successful re emergence, i'll just
call it that yesterday and then Javierhopefully coming back to do the same.

(30:45):
Yeah. The math says he's availabletiming wise to come off during late in
this homestand if he were ready,I don't know that that will be the
case. Yeah, you hope. So, I mean it was what a
stiff neck. Yeah, just amatter of how has he done enough on
this to kind of be up tospeed. They did get good news on
Arkidi as he's thrown his bullpen andeverything continues to go in the right direction.

(31:07):
He's not quite that close, butthey're not. It doesn't look like
they're very far away from having arotation that includes Valdez, Javier Blanco,
and Verlander all at the same time. And I know a lot of you
saw the numbers that the Wextley researchteam, I'll give them credit for this
one put together after the Valdez startand Astros win yesterday, so you could

(31:27):
see what a difference it is whenthose guys start the game versus when the
other four they've had to start thisyear start a game. It's not even
night and day. Like. Idon't know what's wider of a gap than
that, but it's wider of agap than that Alpha and Omega. That's
pretty wide. Okay. JP Frantzsent down, correct, Yes, there

(31:52):
have started five games, they've lostall of them. Yeah, Hunter Brown
has started five games and they notonly have they lost all of them,
he personally has taken the defeat andmany of those. But yeah, if
those four guys are in the rotationand you're running out of we have an
off day every other day, maybeyou still want six arms on the roster
to figure out how to get throughthe games that are starters and not name

(32:15):
Brandon Black, but now of allthese additional starters, Arraghetty, France and
Brown, if you add one tothose other four. That's five simple math.
You only have to have one ofthem if you have a five man
rotation. Ragetty's stuff is major leaguequality and ready, he's just got to
learn a little bit more about howto make mistakes the right way instead of

(32:36):
the wrong way. Just described Brown, well, he makes too much.
He's me making more of them thisyear. Rag Getty's mistakes, I actually
think are more limited, and he'sgetting a lot more swing and miss,
which means his stuff is playing. That's that, and that's where I was
going. Was you know Hunter Brownnot sent down obviously, and at least
he takes the ball like he's right, he's made us. He's the only

(32:58):
one. Yeah, then the onethat's made it through the season. Attendance
does count. But like, howdo you what do you do with him?
And how do you basically stop himfrom regressing? That's what I'm getting.
If it's me, I would Iwould want him throwing major league pitches,
probably out of their bullpen. Yet, so whenter Kety comes back,

(33:21):
then maybe Arraghetti's pitching every fifth dayin the biner league level and Hunter is
in the bullpen and r Keaty isthat fifth starter, they can figure out
the other parts of it. Andremember, they actually have seen a few
reasonably good starts from their back endto Big three and almost all season long.
Now, if you've been paying attentionamidst all these losses, the guys
that are supposed to bridge the startersto the Big three have been really,

(33:44):
really effective, Mark Montero and TaylorScott yep, yep. And I just
it feels like, think, here'sthe thing, things fall into place,
like it looks like they're going tohere or have begun to. I guess,
And you're only six games back.I hope we're laughing at April.
Well, six games back is greatand all. I don't really care what

(34:05):
games back they are. When they'reunder five hundred this far right, they're
ten under right. But again,if you're thirteen games back, because the
range it's nice. Is it's greatthat it's a low number. I should
at least acknowledge that. Yeah,But if they go on a six game
winning streak and the team ahead ofthem and all the others do what they
need to do a six game losingstreak, and you're talking about the first
place fifteen and nineteen astros I won'tsay they're good, not great, not

(34:30):
great baby steps, and you've gota couple of those. Over the weekend,
we will flip back to draft coverageand actually get some reaction from over
at the Texans camp once we comeback to finish off the three o'clock hour.

This is Sports Talk seven ninety Pomeof Astros Baseball. Great to be with

(35:58):
you back here on a Monday editionof the Here on Sports Talk seven ninety,
wex they see and Dan here withyou. Two of us were with
you Friday night for our special SportsTalk seven ninety draft coverage. Appreciate our
friends over at Carback Brewing Carback Brewingfor helping to make that possible. Appreciate
everything that they do. And asthe Texans remained on the board on Friday

(36:20):
night into the tenth pick of thesecond round, their first pick of the
evening had a couple of minutes beforethe reports of who was being selected at
forty two had become final. Sopulled the room on who they thought this
player might be, not necessarily whothey think it should be, but actually
who they thought it might be.Trying to dig inside the head of Nick

(36:42):
Cassario, two of the three ofus actually got it right. Of course,
the members here of the A teamguessing that Kamari Lassiter would be the
name announced by Christian Harris, Alabamalinebacker, announcing Georgia cornerback coming to the
Texans and now in the fold. And he had a nice up already going
on there, and everybody was excited. He was pretty fired up. They

(37:04):
were very fired up. And thenight after the draft we initially heard from
a Nick Cassario on his thoughts ofthis particular selection. Who's probably gonna play
slot corner for the Texans. Here'sthe Texans GM on last or Lassitor's position
flex He's played in a perimeter ofthe formation, he's played inside the formation.
Let's say he plays with a let'ssay a linebacker type mentality. I

(37:28):
mean, he's a corner, buthe tackles, he's tough, he's physical.
I'm sure there'll be a question abouthis speed and how fast he ran,
but he's not slow. So likethis speed really wasn't a concern of
ours, so the times the time, but like we're drafting football players,
you know, we're not drafting trackteams. So I know speed's important.
I'm not saying speed's not important, but we don't feel that that's an issue

(37:52):
for this particular player. And whenyou watch him play in the SEC,
you don't walk away and have thatconcern. So he's physical, he's tough,
he tackled, he has position flexHe played a lot on the line
of scrimmage. You play a lotof press, you know, we have
a little bit more flexibility in ourcoverages. So maybe some of the things
that we ask are going to askhim to do or conducive to his skill

(38:12):
set. So good football player. He's probably one of the top i'd say
makeup kind of players that we identifiedthroughout our process. So he's a football
player. So we're drafting football playersbecause they're trying to together a good football
team. So I'd say that's kindof where he fits the Texans, aren't
for everybody said by Will Anderson andNick Cassio the week leading up to the

(38:36):
draft, and essentially, in aroundabout way, you heard the same from
Nick falling the selection. Okay, how much would I have eviscerated that SoundBite
just three years ago? We're draftingfootball players for our football team. It
just would have been all the cliches. He also said it at the end
to try to soft from the blowinstead of at the beginning when he said,
we're drafting football players, not atrack team. Boy. That guy

(38:58):
likes some SEC players though, doesn'the. Yeah, Alabama not a part
of their draft hall this year. They only added one additional player from Georgia
or from Auburn later on in thedraft, but early in the Saturday afternoon.
I made note of it, andI think we're gonna see this pretty
much for every team, especially withthe transfer portal, because players that are
getting drafted well he went to likeLouisville for instance, with Jamar Johnson,

(39:24):
Jordan Well, he originally went toYale, so he wasn't a Power five
guy, but when you drafted him, he was. Because they're all doing
that. If they play well somewhereand then want to get more visibility,
more opportunity, well they're gonna endup transferring to a Power five school.
As of right now, U ofH is obviously in a Power five school,

(39:44):
but at the time Tank Dell wasdrafted by Nick Cassero, U of
H was not. That's it.Four drafts in for Nick Cassero. I'm
obviously counting Notre Dame as a Powerfive school. If all out, I'm
glad you brought that's the only playerhe's drafted that it's not at a power
five school in four years, andyou know, very normal. Now,
you know how disappointed I was tonot get a response from you after I

(40:07):
said, well, and I can'tsay what I said. I texted you
after they drafted Blake Fisher the othernight. Now you were on the air.
Well, I mean, you can'tcheer for the position, you should
cheer for the player. And that'swhy I would not have done that.
Blake Fisher, the second of theirtwo selections on Saturday, stayed where they
were again at fifty nine to takeFisher, two year starter at Notre Dame.

(40:30):
These traits suggest there is an NFLfuture for him. I'm a little
curious why then, negative people writingthis was not a good pick has less
to do with his play and moreto do with I would have served him
well to go back to school foranother year, why so he could make
more money. Okay, that's reasonable, but are you saying he's going to

(40:53):
learn more by staying in school orhe's going to learn less by coming and
being in an NFL facility, hewould have played. That's another reasonable argument.
He was started thirteen fourteen games lastthis upcoming year for Notre Dame,
and quite possibly absolutely, I wouldthink, But is that you make more

(41:15):
money? Well, yes, becausehe's in IL money. No, well,
he also would have had that hewould have. No offensive lineman's not
rolling in n at Notre Dame. You make inn IL money for sure if
you're an offensive lineman. But hecould have turned him if he plays a
year of college football as a lefttackle and plays really well with Joe Alt
moving on, like, yeah,he could have blown up. I don't
know that that would happen, Butif you're not knocking his skills, then

(41:37):
the pick might not be good forthe individual that he only went fifty ninth
and twenty four when he might gofifteenth, nineteenth, twentieth and twenty twenty.
But what about for the team he'snot gonna start this year? Were
you gonna definitely draft a starter withthe fifty ninth pick in the draft for
the team you've put together this offseason? Probably not, But is he gonna
start when Titus Howard or Laramie Tunsilgets hurt? He's going to start when

(42:00):
Titus Howard or Laramie Tunsel's not onthe team, which is going to happen
during his contract of four years. If he can play, that's the part
I would I would agree maybe hecan and maybe he can't, and by
staying in school. If the answeris he can't, well then it's an
exceptionally dumb play by the player togo back to school. And I'm sure

(42:22):
he can play. But yeah,I don't have an issue with the pick
like so many others do. ButI do recognize that maybe this is not
a wow, you just drafted yourleft tackle of the future, right tackle
the future, even I don't knowthat they did that, but he's probably
going to be the third best tackleon the team this year at some point.
Well, and I'm fine, Yeah, I will clarify on the positional

(42:42):
aspect of what I'm talking about withthis pick when we come back to start
the four o'clock hour, plus we'llhear more from the Texans and get into
more discussion about the Astros as well. As we start the four o'clock hour
here on the eight team Sports Talkseven nineties, it's talk about being a
lead over at Classic Elites Buick atGMC right off the kittie threw it just

named Adham Talking Your Team series.Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A

(44:13):
Team A hour number two underway hereon Sports Talk seven ninety. It is
a Monday post draft edition of theeighteen wex Ac Showkiller Dan Matthews with you
until six o'clock. A couple ofthings to get to by way of wrapping
things up. In that first hour, we were talking about, first of

(44:36):
all, the Blake Fisher pick strictlya tackle. This isn't like a guy
that's swinging position up and down theoffensive line or even I mean, this
is for the most part, forall intents and purposes, like you said,
has a shot at being the thirdbest tackle on this team because he
is a tackle by the definition ofthe term. Yes, he is.

(44:58):
Even more so than that, youhave the general manager explain that to everybody.
Casario, talking about Fisher as apart of their offensive line, added
in an extremely important comment in thisSoundBite on Titus Howard, which you've heard
here from me forever about Titus Howard, and it's good to know the general
manager who helps make these decisions agreeswith me. Casario on Fisher in the

(45:23):
O line and Titus's flexibility. Imean, Blake's a tackle, So can
a player do something beyond what hisoriginal position is? That comes through time,
that comes through practice. There's alot of different dynamics that go into
play. I think Titus is definitelyunique. I mean, i'd say,
you know, Titus is a bettertackle than he is an inside player.
I mean, I think you knowthat's how we feel. I mean,

(45:44):
Titus is honestly one of the bettertackles you know, in the league.
So you always want to put aplayer in a position to accentuate the things
that he does well and not justforce feeding a guy. There's too many
examples, too many times where youjust do that, and it's not fair
to the player. So we'll seeel goes, you know, certain,
but Blake's experience, specific to himhas been a tackle, So treat him
as a tackle, and we alwayssay they're a tackle until they're not.

(46:07):
M So what he said about TitusHoward is we think he's better as a
tackle than on the interior. Andthey think that because they've put him there
so many times. There's plenty ontape. I applaud Titus for being team
first, but it's it just showshow bad a shape their offensive line has

(46:28):
gotten in during several different seasons whilehe's been here, that he's been asked
to move over and over and overagain, because while he's not great there
and it's not his best position,he keeps being better than so many others
that are at their natural position. They felt compelled to put him there,
which looks like we're done with Ihope. Yeah. And that's that's a

(46:49):
very key thing to point out.Like he's also paid like a tackle.
Now, let's Nick extended him lastseason, Like how how much does that
almost in a way, in around about way, expose I guess one
of Nick Cassario's weaknesses, which isthe rest of the offensive line since he's
been here, and again, likehe's done a lot of overhaul of the

(47:12):
roster, so to be fair tohim, that's that's part of it,
and I think the offensive line isas much part of that as any other
position. If you want to,you sound like you're trying to hammer him,
but you don't want to. Youwant me to, I'll do it.
No, no, no, I'llhammer the guy. I've got one
ready. No, I just here'sthe deal. The best offensive lineman on
the Texans as he's in his fourthyear as GM, we're the ones that

(47:35):
were here before he got here exactly. And that's a problem to me fundamentally
if you're trying to build a championshipteam, especially by protecting your all world
quarterback. Hasn't been for a lackof looking, as doctor Jellyfinger will tell
you in a famous eighties movie.Drafted in the first round, Kenyan Green,

(47:55):
drafted in the second round. JewScruggs, drafted year at Patterson last
year, drafted Blake Fisher this year, went out and got Shaq Mason in
here last year he and again Imentioned Fisher just in light of they've spent
draft assets early on offensive line. He's not an interior offensive line and we
just heard Nick tell us that theyhave better options at interior line. As

(48:21):
the offseason truly gets underway, andNick you mentioned late Saturday night. Basically
Phase two starts today with the playersbeing on the field a little bit more
and working towards their first mini camp, which will be the second weekend in
May, and then not long afterthey'll have their first OTAs, but they're
better situated to have real competition amongmany players who could be on the field

(48:45):
for them, not just well,we don't have anybody else, so you
have to play Kenyan, Kendrick Green, Jarrett Patterson, Juice Scruggs, Shaq
Mason and additional players from the draftprocess won late pick from Michigan and probably
others over the next couple of daysthrough till mini camp that can at least

(49:05):
give you and Scott Questionenberry will beback again. Not a huge I don't
think he's a part of this teammoving forward. But these are all players
who either should compete to start oractually have started for you, And if
none of them can play well, then you probably need to reevaluate how you
and the team are evaluating interiir offensivelinemen. So I don't think they're at
that point, no, but it'sjust something to keep an eye on,

(49:27):
just because of the fact that youare not only do you have your quarterback,
but you're trying to you're legit tryingto win with him right now,
like win big with him right now. Yeah, And I mean, I
know there's only so many position groupsthat are truly called as such. But
interior offensive line to me is agroup, not just the whole five man
offensive line because everyone all used toput their tackles together. Who has the

(49:47):
best pair of tackles in the NFL? Okay, Well, if you're gonna
do that, then you allow meto talk about the interior offensive line.
Look around the team, the tightends, the running backs, the wide
outs, the quarterback room, theDB's, the safeties, the corners,
the inside linebackers, the linebacker trio, the tackles on defense, the edge
players, whatever groups you want. The weakest position group on the team remains

(50:10):
the same one it's been for severalyears. It's interior offensive line. And
until Scruggs and Patterson and Mason orKenyon Green and Scruggs and Mason or whatever
trio ends up on the field togetherplays above that level, it's gonna remain
that way. I don't think it'sfor a lack of effort, especially since
they felt so good about Green. They could trade out of thirteen to draft

(50:34):
an interior linement at fifteen two seasonsago, which is very high for an
interior offensive lineman. You usually don'tmiss the hit rate on those players as
strong and I don't think he's playedwell when he's been out there. I
think that's very, very fair. But I can also recognize significant injuries have
impacted his two seasons dramatically in anegative way. Here's the other thing that

(50:58):
I wanted to get to from.We didn't. I mean, I'm sure
we mentioned him in the first hour, but of all the picks, and
again I don't know, Like rememberwhen Tank Dell got drafted, it it
was famously told that you know,CJ wanted the Texans to go get him.
Now, how much that actually playedinto it versus him being on their
radar and all that kind of stuff, I don't know. Maybe you have

(51:20):
more info on that than I do. Maybe someone else could. Well.
They keep trying to tell us theyhave more information on those type players because
they have teammates on the team orpeople that know them, and in that
case, they did have a relationship. But I do think it impacts them
who they're taking. It definitely impactedthem this year. I mean, Blake
Fisher's former teammate is Jared Patterson,Kate Stover's former teammate is CJ Stroud.

(51:45):
It doesn't matter is and He's literallytold us this out loud publicly many times,
he being nick. Once upon atime, the Texans drafted a tight
end in the fourth round a littlebit earlier, Owen Daniels was number ninety
eight overall. I believe this isone twenty three for Kate Stover. But
oh and Daniels hadn't played with MattSchaub during college when he got here.

(52:07):
Have that already that built in?And I'm not saying it's exactly the same,
but I know you saw that memethat was floating around of the twenty
twenty three Ohio State just offensive juggernautsall sitting on the bench together. You
know me, I got a hugekick out of somebody posting that picture and
saying, put this in the louver. And then someone quote tweeted it and

(52:29):
said and they also had CJ.Stroud. I'm like, you mean the
guy in the picture that you're quotetweeting that's talking to these four receivers,
he was there. Are you sureI see him standing there? But thank
you for pointing that out. MarvinHarrison, Junior Smith and Jigba Garrett Wilson,
Who man, I think again,if Aaron Rodgers is healthy. I

(52:50):
can't even begin to guess how awesomehe's gonna be. And I really like
what else they've done. They hadfour unbelievable soup A, Chris Olave,
the other super NFL talents, allof whom Smith and Jigba is a little
bit harder route because he's playing withDK metcalf A. Lobby's the best receiver
in New Orleans right now. GarrettWilson's the best receiver in New York,

(53:13):
the whole New York, not justhis team right now. Marvin Harrison Junior
is the best receiver in Arizona Collegeor otherwise too. Ah yeah, and
definitely on his current roster. Heis the best receiver on his current roster
YEP, And CJ. Stroud's thebest quarterback in the AFC South and definitely
the best quarterback on his roster.Well. The other quarterback in the ANFC
South that was brought up last weekis again. I still can't believe it.

(53:36):
The fifth year option on players thatwere drafted in twenty twenty one are
now being picked up otherwise or playersare getting extended. The Jaguars made it
simple with both Travis atn It wasdrafted in the back third of the first
round and Trevor Lawrence, wh obviouslywent number one. They have had their
fifth year options extended, but asmost of the reporters noted today, they

(53:57):
are working on a long term deal, which most of them expect Lawrence and
the Jags to agree on before youknow game one of this season. That
to me, that's awesome for everybodyelse you are Jaguars. I never saw
this aspect of our show coming whereWEX is just bleeping all over Trevor Lawrence
every other day. I love this. I here, make better decisions,

(54:21):
make better throws, and I'll stopsaying it and rise up the AFC.
Last year at the offseason, man, AFC quarterbacks are unreal. Trevor Lawrence
and Justin Hrbert this's guy. Imean, man, this is gonna be
tough to Well whatever CJ does, when is he ever going to get into
that group? Well, he passedeverybody into three weeks. Yeah, you
just he's got to play better andhe made huge strides from year one to

(54:45):
year two, got that team tothe playoffs, had a sensational second half
against the Chargers and won a playoffgame. And then last year, I
couldn't even bring myself to send outthe nastiness on the X platform today.
Trevor Lawrence last year. Worse numbers, then fewer touchdowns, then lower passer
rating. Then the list of peoplewho outperformed him in all these areas is

(55:07):
a group of I'm glad that's notmy quarterback, and they were all better
than him. Yeah, last year, and he was a big part,
let's face it, in why theycompletely choked away the division, choked away
the division to the Texans. Hardto say what his injury, how much
it impacted him, It'd be unfairto say it didn't impact him, but

(55:29):
to the level that it did isalways a tough call. But yeah,
you can make it as simple asthis. They were sitting pretty rolling to
a division title with six games remaining, and beat the Texans straight up the
second time. That was the lastof the games leading into this final six,
so they basically ensured that the gapthey needed to cruise to a division
title would be there because in Weektwelve they beat the Texans and then he

(55:51):
started five more games of their finalsixl lost every one of them. The
one game he missed, granted itwas against Carolina and they shut him out,
they won and did not make theplayoffs because they couldn't win any of
his other games. And it's notall on him, but when you complete
less than sixty percent of your passesin three straight games in twenty twenty three

(56:14):
in the NFL, you're bad.Yeah, And if he regresses again this
year, look out, especially afterinking a deal or an extension. Yeah,
this is a nothing deal. Yeahnow, but I do believe the
reports will be correct. They they'llagree to terms. It's just something to
keep an eye on in the AFCSouth that in Anthony Richardson's health. Will

(56:35):

He was at the Preds game.Help him get every really hyped up for
it. Can't wait till he getsfolded backwards again. This year they did
go O line with their first pick. Good choice, the best choice because
the best player was already off theboard. That was a good thing.
JC Latham, though, I thinkwe'll probably slide right in and anchor their

(56:59):
line for a few years. Goodfor them, all right. We will
get to the good, the bad, and the ugly from over the weekend
when we come back. But nowbefore we tell you guys about a perfect
place to resume the Texans or theAstros state side schedule, because it does
resume after another off day tonight tomorrowover at Tom's Watch Bar. Now,

(57:20):
the Astros will be at home, right, So if you've got tickets,
you want to head a head onover the game. But you are looking
for a place to pregame, lookingfor a place that is downtown and right
around the corner, and oh,by the way, offers you a very
very nice perk amongst many, thenyou should probably head on down to Caroline
and Pulk before the game tomorrow nightand go to Tom's Watch Bar. I
know a lot of people are upthere over the weekend enjoying the NFL Draft

(57:43):
and all the other events playoffs andotherwise big boxing events coming up this weekend
and all week long starting tomorrow andrunning through Sunday. You got Astros Baseball
Downtown Ballpark, So how about theDowntown's ultimate sports bar, Tom's Watch Bar.
Take advantage of their off to getyour free parking in the Green Street
garage when you come on over toTom's, get it validated, and take

(58:04):

They'll also hook you up with buyone, get one drink specials over at

friends at Tom's. Adam Clinton Welerthe A Team continue to continue on Sports

The good, oh good, thebad, that's my good and the ugly.

(58:50):
Don't make me get up with theA Team. We're selling you the
good the bad signature segment time ona Monday means the good, the bad,
the ugly from the time since welast spoke, So the weekend,
from the draft, through the Astros, through the NBA's and NHL's postseason,
or anything else on your mind. You got your opportunity here, Ac You'll

(59:13):
take the good day and you gotthe battle. Bring up the rear with
the ugly. HI normally where theybelong. Yeah, that's where they That's
definitely where they belong. I amwell for today today, but you know,
things change each and every week, and with this week the start of
it. Technically, yesterday came thereturn of fromber Valdez and not as good
as you could expect. I'll gowith him. I won't muddy the waters

(59:36):
with all the draft stuff because wejust don't know yet. But I do
know that having the good Fromber backis a very good thing. And I
think you could say that yesterday qualifiedas that it wasn't sailing out of the
park, as you mentioned in thefirst hour. I mean, if there
was ever a place to kind oftake him out for a test drive and
make sure that he's not going togive up the bombs that he's kind of

(59:58):
become prone to of late both thisyear and last obviously, then you know,
Mexico City might be it. Butguy out of it relatively unscathed.
Two earned runs in his five innings. He did allow five hits, but
that's part for the course. Struckout six, didn't walk any So all's
good so far for Fromber. Yeah, he was great, I thought,

(01:00:19):
not even just all sings category.Yeah, just great. And he didn't
walk a bat her, got hisdouble playball, got swings and misses,
and got his velocity up. Imean, he probably surprised me in just
about every single area, and reallyover the weekend. The only time you
felt this sting of Mexico City,it was on a ball that probably would
have been out of every park, the mcmahhomer off of Blanco in the first

(01:00:40):
inning of the opening game, afterwhich the Astros shut them out for the
next seven innings until Belak was onthe hill. They did a great job
keeping the ball down there, andI don't dispute it at all. Just
since I brought it up, I'llput him out here. The Astros have
played twenty eight games, half ofthem have been started by Framburg, JV
Javier and Blanco. In those gamesthose fourteen starts, the Astros are eight

(01:01:05):
and six for a team that hasnine wins and nineteen losses, and those
four pitchers individually have given them aone point eighty three er in their fourteen
combined starts. They're individually also sevento zero, but that's not necessarily the
best way to grade them a oneeighty three ERA, and half the starts
you have this year, Okay,so what if the other half are like
four or five, No problem, your temra is gonna be fine. Right.

(01:01:30):
And here's the especially, since ifthese guys start making regular starts,
that fifth and or sixth starters numberswill only slightly impact the overall because they're
not out there very often. They'vemade half of the starts those fourteen starts,
five from Brown, five from France, three from Spencer Araghetti, and

(01:01:51):
one from Blair Henley a nine toforty nine era in half your games.
That's what you got. That's whatyou've gotten from your starting pitcher. They're
also for ten as an individual groupand the team clearly they can't win when
those guys pitch. They're two tonineteen, right, And here's the deal.
I know that everybody deals with injuriesin the majors and every other sport,

(01:02:14):
but like, take the corresponding startersfor every Just take the division leaders
right now and apply that to themand tell me that their record is as
good, it might be better thanthe Astros, because the Astros record has
been that awful. But you justgave the numbers behind a big reason why.
Yeah, the only thing is youcan't just automatically say when they're always

(01:02:35):
going to pitch like this, right, and they're always gonna stay healthy.
So there's a lot to it.But in that yesterday's start gave them half
of them, I figured it wasa nice time to trot that out.
Well, the Yankees are gonna belike, we haven't had Garrett Cole all
season. It's definitely, I mean, every team probably has something. I
mean, the Cubs wipe the floorwith the Astros. They got a bunch
of guys that aren't out there forthem. It's a league wide, pretty

(01:02:55):
common issue, some more than others, and the Astros still have a host
of pitch on the aisle. Whatis the bad? Dan? The bad
is all encompassing because we were toldat the beginning of this offseason by a
certain owner of a team that theywere all in. And you even had
the head coach who was up therewith him at the podium a couple of
days later, where he sheepishly saidso Barrian Duos, And the draft came

(01:03:20):
and went this weekend for the Cowboys, I'm just gonna rattle off position groups
here. Taken offensive tackle, defensiveend, interior, offensive line, linebacker,
corner receiver, offensive line, indefensive tackle. Do you notice a
position that I didn't say after theylost Tony Pollard this offseason? Oh yeah,
it was almost like today when theyagreed to terms with Zeke Elliott,

(01:03:43):
that they almost had a meeting afterthe draft and said, oh yeah,
running back. I mean, look, we like Deuce, we like Rico,
but bring that guy back. It'sa very interesting off season for the
Cowboys so far, and again,I can't wait to see these two teams
play each other. I don't knowwhen it's gonna be. Could be on
Thanksgiving, could be prime time, might be at noon, might be at

(01:04:06):
three o'clock. Who knows. It'sgonna be an Arlington. We do,
you know that. But just onpaper, the two offseasons could not have
gone more polar opposite in my opinionfor the Texans and the Cowboys. Ninth
NFL season upcoming. For Ezekiel Elliott, it'll be only the second team he's
played for, because it's obviously allthe years part of last year where with

(01:04:26):
Dallas. Should he make the team, Let's keep that out there. He's
coming off of his least successful seasonwhere he was used the least played the
least and produced the least, ashe will be a twenty nine year old
football player for all of next season. It'll turn twenty nine over the summer.
So he's the opposite of Joe Mixon. Uh, how's he the opposite?
Well, they've both played similar amountof time in the league, and

(01:04:50):
Joe put up good numbers and Zekedidn't last year. Okay, that's what
I mean by that. I meanEzekiel's had a better career and it's not
really sure close in my opinion,But who was gonna have a better career
from here on out? That's agood question, because that's really all that
matters. Yeah, I think it'swhat I think it could matter that day.
Yeah, I like that Dallas wasone of the first round teams that
traded back. They had twenty four, ended up trading back to ad assets,

(01:05:13):
and at twenty nine took a tackle. The problem is, I'm not
sure everyone believes in that tackle. Is he more developmental or is he someone
that can help on a line thatdid get old and does need to make
some changes. Yeah, I thinkrunning back probably could have been addressed during
the draft. I think it's alsofair to say I'm not sure there's there
might be one starting running back inthis year's draft. I mean, maybe

(01:05:36):
there's three, maybe there's five.I don't really know who those other four
are after Brooks, after Jonathan Brooks, who might not even be the starter
yet in Carolina depending on what theydo with their group of underwhelming backs.
But just wasn't a particularly good yearfor backs this year for them not to
take one, though even the Texanstook one with Jordan. Yes, I

(01:05:58):
definitely think they're all in. Sloganwill be really really used by everyone outside
and inside the city of Dallas throughoutthe upcoming season. My ugly is also
draft related because it was self inflicted, good player and it has nothing to
do with the individual. A lotof times draft picks get labeled in a
certain way that's totally unfair to them, and I'm not sure what label people

(01:06:21):
will put on the quarterback from Washingtonwho finished out his college career here in
the National Title Game. But draftinga quarterback with the eighth pick, as
the Falcons did after other quarterbacks werealready gone and they didn't think there'd be
another quarterback this good where they're goingto be drafting in the next two three

(01:06:43):
four years. They drafted their newlysigned quarterbacks replacement forty five days after they
newly signed him. You're creating alocker room issue as much as you say
you're not. And when it's aplayer that's hurt, like Cousins, if
he remains that way for whatever portionof their offseason or training camp program,

(01:07:05):
he's not a part of physically throwingthe football, and Michael Penix is.
Whatever happens, it's bad. Ifhe looks great, that's bad for the
team. If he looks bad, well, that's bad for the team.
So they've just created a completely unnecessarysituation. And all that being said,

(01:07:26):
they didn't help their team. Now. I think Penix is gonna be a
really good player. I don't knowwhen we're gonna find out, though,
or with whom. For a teamthat's probably capable of winning that division even
with no help in this year's firstround. That's what If I were a
Falcons employee or the general manager orthe coach, that probably would have been
the direction I went in, wasfind a way to help this team over

(01:07:46):
the next three to four years. Not to mention again, Pennis the player
awesome love. It cannot ignore thefact of all the quarterbacks in the last
ten years that have been drafted reasonablyhigh has worse injury history than he does.
Well, and then Kirk Cousins isinjury prone. No, he got

(01:08:09):
hurt last year. I feel likehe's had significant injuries throughout his career.
Maybe I'm wrong. I'm guide tostay on the field with his popped achilles,
which he did not believe was actuallythe case. But the eight years
prior he basically didn't miss any games. Okay, I'm probably thinking of someone
else. Then at the quarterback position, there are a lot of injuries obviously

(01:08:30):
at that position. He's also old. Well, yeah, that could be
a factor. He'll play this upcomingseason at age thirty six. All right,
we are at the halfway point. We're gonna give away tickets like we
do every day at this time hereon the show when we come back next
year. On the eighteen timing stopby Duban fantastic play by Marisio Dubon.

to give away some tickets we usuallydo about this time every day. Yep.
I hope you guys are used toit, and we're happy to be
able to do that for you. This time around. It's more comics,

(01:09:12):
one of them, in fact, comedian Dane Cook. It's gonna be live
in the h Over at Buy YouMusic Center coming up November two, and
we've got a pair of tickets foryou to go see him. Uh.
Ticks will on sale a ticketmaster dotcom. I'm going to move away from
Dane Cook the comedian, yes,and move towards Dane Cook the actor.

(01:09:34):
I'm very very much in favor ofthis question because I love this movie actor
Dane Cook. Here's your question andif you know the answer seven one three
two one two five seven ninety,if you want a pair of tickets,
go see him make you laugh.Seven one three two one two five seven
ninety. Actor and comedian Dane Cookgets his next sliced as he's murdered in

(01:09:58):
a two thousand and seven thriller.Your question, what mega Hollywood star slashed
his neck with a shovel in thistwo thousand and seven thriller? What a
hint it was a shovel. I'mtrying to give you all the pieces nests
there. I'm gonna guess even thoughI don't know this for a fact,
Dame Cook has been killed in avery small number of his movie roles,

(01:10:21):
so you might know it without allthe particulars. But I'm gonna give you
them what Mega Hollywood Star slashed actorDane Cook's neck, murdered him any two
thousand and seven thriller. He didit with a shovel. If you know
that mega star's name seven one threetwo one two five seven ninety and you
go see Comedian Live and well DaneCook, Yes, November second by you.

(01:10:42):
Music is just a movie. Itwas just a movie. Many of
his movies are as comics normally domovies comedies. This one is not.
No and I don't really even thinkthere was parts of it that were funny.
It was weird. You saw it, I don't think start to finish,
but over the time of its manyshowings on the cable television factory,

(01:11:04):
yeah, like, I'll give itthis if nothing else. It was an
original idea. It was not agood cast, oh for sure, very
tried and true, original Hollywood idea, not something that was recycled or a
remake or anything like that. Thiswas and I don't remember if it was
based on a book or anything likethat, but yeah, and the fact

(01:11:26):
that he was in that role, because you're right, this other co star
about as big as it gets inHollywood, and it's got a few movies
to his credit. Yeah, thathe carried. Yeah in terms of the
trying the money making aspect of it. And Jacob and Deer Parkers are winner.
So we can go ahead and revealthat we're talking about Kevin Costner.

(01:11:47):
Yeah. Earl Brooks is a highlyrespected businessman. He was recently named Portland's
Man of the Year. He hidesa terrible secret though. He's a serial
killer. He likes to kill people, so he likes to make people unlive.
It was like I said, youprobably you need to pay attention.
It's called mister Brooks. Yeah, mister Brooks. But here's the thing.
You're You're Kevin. I'm gonna dothis like Huby Brown because I have to.

(01:12:08):
Okay, you're Kevin Costner. You'rea huge star in Hollywood. It's
an original script that hasn't been donebefore. Who could you possibly get to
be your co starter? Ride aroundand find your next victim. Why Dane
Cook? Why why would it beDane Cook. This guy's a stand up
comic. He's never done a horrormovie before. Oh my, he's trying

(01:12:31):
to slice a neck. Now Ican't. I just didn't get it.
And I'm not one of these peoplethat hates Dane Cook. He was like
the nickelback of stand up comedians fora long time. Why great he got
he was one of the yo Sometimesyou can't explain it. I went and
popularity was insane. I went andsaw him at Toyota Center with my first
fiance. It was unbelievable. Hepacked the place. It looked like a

(01:12:57):
Rockets playoff game in there, floorseats and all. He was in one
of those big, you know,in the round stages. But it's just
it's just him. He's out there, which is by again, I'm terrified
of public speaking. That's why Ido this for a living. Clearly,
I cannot imagine like Dave Chappelle waslike that. It's the most it's the
most intimidating of the intimidating setups fora large room to look at you say

(01:13:21):
things, and that's what he wasdoing, and it was packed. I
just couldn't. I didn't get it. We'll have tickets to see Dang Cook
all the week. Dan Cook, the stand up comedian is great good.
I don't care what anybody says.He's he's hilarious. I think you'll enjoy
yourself. But him in that role, I just didn't get it. I
guarantee you that the next movie, pretty sure some of the other roles will

(01:13:42):
be asking questions about the rest ofthe week. You will definitely get He's
in this one movie with this really, really attractive female coastar. I know
that's a huge surprise. You haven'tnarrowed it down to one movie yet,
a Hollywood film where he was castopposite a really hot chick that never happens.
Nope, I can't wait for thatmovie. What movie the one I'm

(01:14:04):
thinking of that I can't say becauseI know it's going to be one of
our trivia questions. Well, Imight go deeper into the movie for the
question and answer. Well, ifwe get to Friday and you haven't mentioned
it, I won't be able totell you. Anyways. The A team
continues here on Sports Talk seven ninetySo yeah, we've kind of I mean,
we haven't delved into every aspect ofthe Texans. We having really given

(01:14:24):
you our opinion of what they didwell. Best player taken was taken every
time. I think for what theyneeded. Is that is that to the
best player available on the board inthe draft taken by the Texans for what
they needed. It definitely did nothappen after they took Kate Stovers, not
even close. There were better playerson the board than every single player they
drafted the rest of the way.But they have very specific needs that they

(01:14:47):
are specific skills and development parts oftraits. Are they That's the thing again,
I say it with full confidence. They took and they even traded up
for one of them. Uh,they're they're taking players that they just have
decided before the draft is over. These are players that are gonna be on
the board after one fifty and theseare the three or four players that we

(01:15:09):
want. And that's it, andthat's what we're doing. They don't care
where it happens, they don't knowhow it happens. That's what they're gonna
do. And that's why players thatthey took later in the draft. I
just think we're it's not a headscratcher. But if again I do think
it's hard for sometimes teams to doanything like who's gonna trade you for pick

(01:15:30):
one? I mean they were ableto make one of those deals later on,
they moved back and ended up withthe Juwar Jordan because the team had
a player that they specifically wanted. But if there's nobody on the other side
of it, and you're you know, three to five minutes that you're deciding,
then there's only so much you cando. This is the player that
we want. We only have somany selections left. We know that if
he reaches undrafted free agency, weare not gonna be the team he chooses

(01:15:54):
contractually. Probably having talked to somany other teams, then there were we're
just gonna go ahead and take themhere, And I think that's what they
did with each of those selections afterCade's over. Honestly, don't think any
of them will be on the activeroster when this season begins. I think
there's a reasonable chance a couple ofthem will be practice squad players, maybe
all of them, but then I'mnot sure what their future holds. If
that's the status of those players immediatelyupon arrival. A lot of their later

(01:16:17):
round picks have had much better fatesthan that team. Quittriano's sixth round pick,
Roy Lopez a late round pick areWhile these are all players who have
all made impacts of some variety withthe team over the first couple of years
of each of their respective careers. But Solomon Byrd didn't have a very good
workout. I guess you could sayand ran even though he's an edge player,

(01:16:41):
very very slowly. I'm not surethat he's an NFL talent. Not
really expecting him to be drafted, but he was a seventh round pick.
Marcus Harris and Ladarius Henderson the twoother seventh rounders. They had guys that
I'm sure other teams thought, oh, you know, if that player doesn't
get drafted, we'll, you know, will continue to reach out to them
and maybe we signed them an undraftedfree agency. Texas just decided again go
big school. They took a defensivetackle from Auburn. They took an offensive

(01:17:04):
tackle from Michigan, Juard Jordan five' nine, maybe a little taller than
that, reasonably good production at Louisville, his second school. They have an
opening. They don't have a confirmedkick returner. He could do that.
They don't have a definitive series ofplayers behind Joe Mixon. Obviously, they

(01:17:24):
have bodies in Darian Goombawally and DamianPierce now him, and there will be
others. And Jamal Hill, thelinebacker from Oregon sixth round pick. I
think I've said it for years nowwatching Nick work. I think he've used
undrafted free agency and sixth and seventhrounders as the exact same talents. He
doesn't make any difference to him howyou get them. If these guys are

(01:17:45):
undrafted free agent caliber players and Ihave a selection to make, I'm just
taking the player I want. It'snot the worst way to look at it.
It depends how it works out.But I am The other four players
matter in order of how I likethem relative to where they were selected.
And I wanted to say it thatway because you've heard their last head coach
and their meaningful head coach and theircurrent general manager love to say relative to

(01:18:09):
this and relative to that. Sowhen I come back, I will tell
you, in order one through four, how I like their selections relative to
all the factors going into how theybecame a Texan and why. As we
continue here on the A team,Adam Clinton Adam Wexler. A continue continues.
They fall football basketball is my sortstalk seven ninety home for your own

(01:18:34):
teams. Why do we talk aboutEdwin McCain the entire commercial break and then
your reactions to it. Think that'son you. Edward McCain undrafted in the
twenty twenty four NFL drafts, soneed not be discussed any further. You're
talking about the Texans top four draftpicks. Cade Stover, the last of
the four coming on Saturday, justlike trade up for him tight end out

(01:18:58):
of Ohio State, Kaitlyn Bullet, the safety out of USC slight trade up
to grab him in the middle ofthe third round. Blake Fisher and Kamari
Lassiter the two second round picks theymade as placed at forty two for last
fifty nine for Fisher in order onethrough four of I like this too.
I like this less. I thinkthe selection of Stover probably is the most

(01:19:24):
sound pick that they made. Fouryears of production from him is going to
be excellent, and he's going toget better more. I think that a
trait that is shared by all fourof them is their room for improvement,
which is usually why on draft daythey don't get looked at quite as favorably,
but in Stover's case, having spentso little time at the position to

(01:19:44):
have I think, had his profilerise enough to where nobody thinks this is
anything other than a fantastic spot forhim, a fantastic pick for the Texans,
And as Nick mentioned in his commentaryabout him over the weekend, he's
basically barely been out there at tightend. Big player, tough player,

(01:20:05):
physical player, and apparently he catcheseverything because he hasn't had a drop since
he's been out there. He's madeevery play. He obviously is a former
teammate of CJ. Strouds, playeddefensive end at Ohio State at the beginning
of his career and then became atight end and moved into the fourth round.

(01:20:27):
So he'd be number one. KaylnBullock would be number two. I
think this player as a safety, and I do believe he'll remain there for
the Texans. He'll be starting intheir secondary barring some heavy expenditure in the
safety pool in next year's free agentclass. He's the starting safety. And
I'm not even sure over which oneof the two. I know Jimmy Ward
is not under contract for twenty twentyfive, and Jalen Petrie quite obviously is

(01:20:51):
although it'll be the final year ofhis four year rookie contract. Well,
Jalen Petrie better play because they're sellinga crapload of his jerseys in the team.
Should play and he's not going anywhere. I'm just saying they're just they
may be looking for two safeties atsome point down the road, but I
think Bullock has the ability to puton more weight, get a lot stronger,
and continue doing the things that hehas already shown that he can do.

(01:21:13):
It's a little concerning the Texas wentnot once but twice to sc for
defensive players. US's defense was notjust bad, they were embarrassingly bad.
Oh good last year. The lastline of defense is from a horrible defense.
I don't think any of that.I mean he was actually a play
maker. When you look at someof what kind of impact was he making

(01:21:35):
out there, I thought he didmake an impact. And I just think
he's He's the type of player Iwould want to go get in the draft.
Just a matter of where do theyget the right value for it.
And one thing you see with eachof these guys, these guys are young.
I mean twenty one, not yettwenty one year old. These players
have so much time to probably noteven have the same body that they have
as a kid. That's not normalthat this many players that this one class

(01:21:59):
might have or are that young. So Bullet comes in it too, last
year comes in at three. Idon't think that's a negative necessarily that their
top pick is only the one Ilike third most. I think he's the
one who will actually matter to thisyear's team the most. Basically, he's
competing with des King, and Idon't know that he beats him out immediately,
but at some point he will, and he'll be their starting slot corner

(01:22:20):
or potentially be able to help themelsewhere. But I think that's literally where
they want him to be. They'llfigure it out with Jeff Akuda and all
the other players they signed Henderson amongothers at the other corner spot, or
maybe hit players that become available overthe remainder of the off season. But
I think this player steps in immediatelyand has a real chance to, like

(01:22:40):
I said, compete with King outplay King show that he can handle the
position at this level immediately, andmaybe he is a Day one starter.
I think he's the only one thathas the chance to do that, and
then obviously that leaves the last playerFisher to come in. For all the
reasons I mentioned why it might begood for the team to have him,
it doesn't necessarily play into this year. They have just signed Charlie Heck as
insurance in case nothing played out inthe draft. They didn't have any other

(01:23:03):
veteran players, and they probably stillwill. They've got three other veterans he'll
be fighting with from day one tobecome the swing tackle. He's got a
long way to go. He didstart at Notre Dame as a left tackle,
but got hurt early early early inhis career. Then Joe Alt started
playing left tackle, so he neverwent back. That's why Fisher comes to
the NFL with two years of startingright tackle experience rather than on the left

(01:23:27):
side. But if familiar with theposition, makes for a great swing tackle.
A lot of room for him, another young young player to grow into.
He's a six five ten, threehundred and fifteen pound player to do
nothing but get bigger and stronger. You could argue maybe there was a better
tackle available. I suppose. Ithink most people love the tackle that the

(01:23:47):
Chiefs took at the end of thesecond round from BYU. I do also
probably a higher ceiling and maybe alower floor. Maybe kid from Washington could
have been an option there. Sothese are all debatable. Did they do
the right things? That's why hecomes in fourth of the four. But
again, these are the four playersthat matter to the future of the Texans

(01:24:09):
of the eight players they selected overthe last three days. We're gonna have
plenty more discussion about this in asegment that is centered around football, which
is the next one. It's Footballat five Conversation, and we'll check back
in with the principal parties who draftedthese players and bring them to Houston.
When we come back. Two lifelongHouston sports guys named Adam talking your teams.

(01:24:35):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are theA team A how you had it?
FLEs football. It's five o'clock. Some five o'clock football. Professional football

(01:24:58):
in America is ac game. Footballat five conversation means it's time to go
into the war room. Did younotice the other Knight's plural that they started
just randomly labeling it as a draftroom instead of four years in the making
for obvious reasons. Is this PCstuff that's so easy to change. Yes,

(01:25:21):
you remember after nine to eleven drafting, that's what it should be called.
But we're going to war with theseplayers, that's what they're doing.
No, they're not. You know, you got an injury, you got
a soldier through it. They're playinga game. They are they are a
brotherhood. They are a brotherhood, band of brothers. We're a brotherhood.
We work in radio. Yeah,we go to war every afternoon against the

(01:25:42):
competition. See, it's not hard. It's okay to say it. You
guys don't have to actually get offendedabout everything here. In twenty twenty four,
you remember, after nine to eleventhey renamed it. Dan remembers this
because you don't. It used tobe raw is war? Now it's raw.
We can't say war. I don'tknow why because you're wrestling. Yeah,
yeah, and it was after nineeleven. It's just wrestling. There's

(01:26:04):
nothing offensive about that. I'm notoffended. But people were people. It's
you know, the ones. Wegot a lot of people here, the
ones that wake up trying to getoffended about everything. Do you think there
are Texans fans that were like,no matter what they do, I'm gonna
wake up offended because I don't likethese picks. I don't know that they'd
be offended by the picks. Theymight not like them, like, for
example, the fact that the Texans, so they went cornerback, then immediately

(01:26:30):
went offensive line, and then eventuallythey landed on Now, there might be
some debate on this, Kaylen. Most people are gonna say Kaylen Bullock.
Right, But when each player senttheir video back of Hey, I'm so
happy to go to work, theydidn't say war and be a Texan I'm

(01:26:51):
ready to go like he said,Kaylen Bullock. It was an emphasis on
the l O c K. So, I don't know if we're gonna have
this is one of those things wherewe have a you know, like you
say Framber, I say Fromber,It's gonna be one of those things.
Bullock Bullock, Reggie Bullock plays forthe Rockets. Did did play for Rockets?

(01:27:12):
Wow, he's not dead, geez. I'm not certain, but I
think his one over probably all thathe's gonna get. He's a marked man.
Oh, I mean they can onlyhave so many players on the roster.
Yeah, I get it, ButBullock not somebody you would have taken
there it sounded to me last segmentmore so because of the system that didn't

(01:27:32):
know where he came from. Ijust brought it up because it's it's kind
of odd to me that Solomon Birdbeing factored in there is almost a non
factor, But it happened. Theydid draft two players from the same terrible
defense. I just didn't it's it'sthe way they do it, and it's
it's been a staple of Nick.You know he's done it. I'd have
to double check, but I thinkthis is about the fifth or sixth time

(01:27:54):
in the top one hundred and thirty, five hundred and forty picks. He
specifically traded up five, six, ten, thirteen, nineteen selection spots because
I can't not draft this player.I mean, how they are so in
love with the player and they're soconvinced he's not going to be available to
them that they make that trade up. They were at eighty six, they

(01:28:14):
moved up to seventy eight for him. It cost him an additional pick.
Later in the draft. They madeanother deal where they moved up a couple
of spots to get Stover that costhim another pick in it next year's draft,
a fifth round pick and in thisone, a fourth round pick.
He has the assets going into thedraft specifically to use them like that,
not to get players, but touse them so he can get the other

(01:28:34):
players that he's super convinced that hehas to have, the ones that he's
just dead set on. This isa player that's going to make us better
and that's why I'm going to goget him. Casaria obviously had comments on
Bullock himself. On Saturday night whenhe and Demico both met with the media,
they talked about the additional picks. He obviously was a player they were

(01:28:58):
able to get. On Friday,Nick Cassario on Bullock, whatever his production
is has been pretty significant, Buthe's He's rangy, he covers ground,
he plays the ball well. Hehas good movement skills for his afety.
He started his career as a corner. I'm not saying he's a corner,
but he moves well for his size. He's sixty two, one hundred and

(01:29:18):
ninety pounds. Honestly, some ofhis best football is probably in front of
him. He needs to get stronger. I mean he'll be at first to
tell you that. So he Ithink there's some developmental opportunity. He's with
him relative to his frame, which'stalking about a guy's sixt two hundred ninety
pounds, a ran four to fivethat moves well for his size, plays
the ball instinctive, is an aracer and a deep part of the field.

(01:29:39):
Has to improve as a tackler, which goes back to improving his playing
strength. So hopefully our program willbe beneficial to him in that respect.
So and he's still ascending players onlytwenty years old, my twenty one years
old. He's young players, beenin college for three years. Plays a
true freshman, so versatile player. So I say that was certainly a player

(01:30:01):
that the head coach was excited toget on the team. So anytime you
can do that, it's probably agood thing. A couple things in there.
He dropped a relative too, asI mentioned that he would. He
dropped a program, although it tookhim a whole minute to get to it,
which is a new record. Andhe mentioned twenty twenty one year old.
He kind of hedged his bets onthat because today Kaylin Bullock is twenty.

(01:30:24):
Tomorrow he will be twenty one.Well, happy birthday for when we
forget to tell you tomorrow. Thereare a lot of good things to like
about him. Again, why theyhad him at that particular spot. We're
certain that others would be after himnot long after that you mentioned there at
the very end. You know, making the head coach happy is a good
thing. Here's what Demiko had tosay about this pick the next day when

(01:30:45):
he met with the media. Yousee just his ball scals, his range,
you know, back there in thedeep half of the field. It's
just stood out. He's an exceptionalplaymaker attacked the ball. That's what we
are about on defense, attacking theball, and that's what Bullet does.
That's what we're looking for him todo for US ball tracking skills, sudden
footwork, all these things that areharder to coach up versus you know,

(01:31:12):
tackling and strength. I mean, you were taught to tackle by your first
coach, and then your next coach, and then your next coach, and
then your college coaches, and you'lldo it again at the NFL level,
and there'll be certain things that Ithink can enhance your ability to do so,
especially when you get together with theperformance and strength division and nutrition division
of your new employer. He mentionedthat he's rangy. Is that not the

(01:31:36):
most subjective draft term out there. There's a lot of like pretty to me,
that's pretty specific to the position thathe plays. He plays safety.
You would like that player to beable to you know, play sideline to
sideline, to make his the correctread, to get to where he needs
to be, to meet the ballthere, to have the pass breakup to
you know, I guess just swadea quarterback from throwing the ball to that

(01:31:58):
area because he's he knows the playthat's coming and he has the ability to
get there. So it's six foottwo, do you think he has lengths?
How about lean? Well, oneninety six to two is a bean
pole. He needs to get biggerand stronger, and I don't doubt that
that happens at this level. Butyes, he does move well. His
you know, his forty is reallygood. It's among the better times of

(01:32:19):
safety and the other things that goalong with it. Whether you're looking at
any kone drills or ten yard splits, all those things are strong. Those
are again off field numerics that painta pretty good picture of and then you
couple that with what he did onthe field there his first team all packed
twelve this last season, and asyou look at playmakers, and Stan and

(01:32:39):
I and Dan on Friday Night. We're looking at a lot of that,
and that's purely just statistically based andit's not a very strong picture of the
player himself totally. But you can'tignore if you're on the field for thirty
two starts and pick off the ballnine times in your three seasons, that's
pretty good. And I think moreof that comes along. He opted out
of their bowl game, it outof his senior season and became an NFL

(01:33:02):
player when the Texans drafted him.More from Demiko, the other player that
they drafted in the secondary on theopening day, we heard him talk about
Lasseter earlier, the type of playerthat he hopes he is as soon as
he gets there. I haven't heardeither Nick or Demiko talk about Cad Stover,
the tight end. The tight endwho acknowledged when he spoke with us

(01:33:26):
that he has kept in touch withCJ. He said he talked to CJ,
his former quarterback at Ohio State, more about the process of being prepared
for the draft and what comes withDraft Day and all those things. Versus
I can't wait to hopefully join youin Houston. The possibility obviously came up
in their conversations, but not muchmore beyond that. We'll start with the
what was said by the general manageron Cad Stover. A player was presented

(01:33:51):
with what kind of how would youdescribe and what stands out when you do
your evaluations of your new tight endKate Stover, whatever it is, it's
elite. I mean, this guyis as tough and hard knows the player
that they had in the program.Let's say Kay's a good example of a
player who was only played tight endfor two years, so he's certainly ought
to finished product, but he hasa mindset and the work ethic to improve.

(01:34:15):
I mean how he was raised.I mean, this guy is everything
you want a football player and thenmore. I mean he probably played hurt
this year. I mean I thinkhe had an MCL or had an issue
where quite frankly it would have limitedsome other players, but he just braced
it up and he just kept playingfootball. So I mean, I don't
want to speak for Demiko, butI think we feel the same way.
It's probably one of our favorite likefootball players in the entire draft, regardless

(01:34:39):
of position, because of his mentality, because of his mindset, and he
still is developing as a player.I mean two years ago he's playing defensive
end in the Rose Bowl against Utah. Now he's you know, played tight
end for two years and here heis getting picked in the bottom of the
fourth round and his position is youknow, we think tight end, that's
why we drafted him. So butI mean blue college or as they come,

(01:35:00):
and from a makeup traite, toughnessmentality. I mean, this is
this is an elite guy, prettyhigh praise. This is an elite guy.
He could have just said that andthen been done and kind of is
what he opened with. Whatever yousee, it's elite. Yeah. Yeah,
Look again, going back to whatI said in the first hour,
this is the time of year whereeverybody's happy with who they got and they're

(01:35:21):
going to tell you about it becausenobody ever gets up and if press conference
it says we really wanted all theseother guys, but this is who we
have. Just you know, onething that he brought up. He was
out there playing defense in twenty twentytwo, on January first, in the
Rose Bowl, six tackles for theirnew tight end, Cad Stover against Utah.

(01:35:43):
Yeah, that's playing on the linefor their defense. Like okay Am
I wrong to be the most excitedabout him out of everybody they drafted.
I think most people view him asthe best value for where he was drafted,
most consensus draft to where he wasdrafted exactly. And I do think
two tight ends in your every weekgame plan is a must. They don't

(01:36:05):
have to be on the field together, and they won't be all that often,
but certainly in some red zone packagesand can goal line packages, and
then over the course of a gameDalton Schultz and even Travis Kelce newly extended
Travis Kelson not retired, no kidding. They don't play one hundred percent of
the stat so some play close toit, but Schultz won't play quite that.

(01:36:26):
I mean, they need an opportunityto get off the field, and
you could not There's no way youcould sit here and say, I know
Brevin Jordan is going to be really, really good for us here in his
fourth year. He showed more signslast year than ever has. He obviously
had one of the most electric playsin the whole postseason, let alone just
for the Texans with his touchdown againstthe Browns. And I really like what
he could be this year. Buthe also goes into the final year of

(01:36:46):
his contract. You did re signSchultz for three years, maybe it turns
into two years if things are differentwith how well Stover plays. And just
like each of these other players wekeep talking about, specifically the early draft
picks they had, he's the onlyone of them that's a little bit older.
Five years out of high school. He'll be twenty four here over the
summer, changed positions, He's playeda lot of football, He's got a

(01:37:09):
lot of leadership qualities. But theyneed a tight end who can block people
and catch the football, and inmy opinion, his first day on the
field with this team, he mightbe the best at the combination of both
of those skills. Dalton Schultz isa pass catching tight end block when the
play calls for him too, buthe's not going to blow people away with

(01:37:30):
his strength, and Stover certainly couldbecome that. And you know, to
the easiest way is he's just bigger. He's a bigger, stronger player than
anybody they have. Yeah. No, i I'm again, like I said,
I'm low key just after you know, after digesting the weekend and stepping
back and looking at what they gotin the draft, relative to what they

(01:37:54):
needed still after free agency and allthat kind of stuff, you know,
because he's a tight end taken inthe fourth round, it just feels like
the sweet spot for a position likethat. And I go back to Owen
Daniels because if he's even a fractionof that, they're going to be in
good shape at that position, atleast for the upcoming year for sure,

(01:38:15):
and then hopefully moving forward because asyou mentioned, Dalton Schultz multi year extension
to stay here in Houston, andI can't recall I felt like you didn't
think he was going to necessarily beback. Oh well I didn't. I
thought they had no choice. Ithink they. I'm surprised how much they
gave him. But the tight endclass free agent wise what it was awful.

(01:38:38):
So if you let him go,what are you doing then getting worse
and definitively worse. Now you're savinga bunch of money because whoever they would
have signed, and they would havesigned somebody would be far less expensive,
probably would have been on a dealthat they could have gotten out of after
one year, or it would havejust been a one year deal. But
then you're getting a new tight endfor a new offense that has less talent.
It just didn't make any sense ifthis one has familiarity. Well that's

(01:39:00):
why I think Dalton and his representativesknew that, and they I don't not
saying they played the Texans. I'msaying they played their cards correctly, and
the Texans showed one thing with himthat they showed the entire offseason. We're
going to spend money because we wantto win, and if it costs us
money to win, no problem here. It is we've spent plunge to lose,
so me to win. He wasone of the first moves they made.

(01:39:24):
And then they went out and spentmore money to make sure this team
is good and has talent on thefield. And but they they only not
like that. Yeah, but theyonly were going to spend so much,
apparently at the running back position.Famously, I don't have It's okay to
have an end game of a bottomline, a wall you don't want to
cross, a line you don't on. It's just strange to me because it

(01:39:44):
feels like Sakuon Barkley still wishes hesigned here after everything that's happened, and
you know, to talk about moneyand all that kind of stuff. It
still feels like he's I mean,he was talking about it after he signed.
Yeah, I don't have with anI don't know. I think he's
probably pretty happy Philadelphia. Yeah, and look right now, if you're trying
to pick who's gonna end up havinga better record in their conference, so

(01:40:05):
that the money's probably gonna be onthe Eagles, just because the NFC sucks
a whole lot more. But itwould have been nice to have seen that
weapon added to this offense. AllRight, we're gonna add something else to
the show that we haven't yet, namely the things we haven't talked about.
It's called in case you missed it. It's coming up next, But not
before I tell you about Prime WaveFederal Credit Union. Over the weekend,

(01:41:40):
seven ninety, your rockets, yourastros, your voice, bunch things I
have no doubts took place over theweekend. We've not yet had a chance
to discuss. That's why we havein case you missed it, here around
this time each and every weekday afternoononto the A team. What do we

(01:42:00):
have today? Then? All right. So you guys talked a little bit
earlier about Tank Dell. But there'sanother part of this as being discussed with
the news that broke yesterday, andthat is people wondering why was he in
that situation. Well, Chado choCinco is on the Nightcap podcast with Shannon
Sharp and he talked about on thepodcast that he already reached out to Tank.

(01:42:21):
Tank told him he's fine, He'sall good. But Ocho had some
advice for the Texans young receiver.I just told him, you got to
move a little different, baby. You got you got, you got,
You got to move a little different. You know. I understand it's the
off season. You want to enjoyyourself, you want to go out and
have fun with your friends and yourhomeboys. But you got to move differently.

(01:42:42):
You just have to. You haveto. And the people, the
people that you surround yourself with shouldunderstand that you have to move differently.
You shouldn't be at places anyway butone that he can carry. Look,
you can say what you want aboutShadow cho Cinco over the years, and
he's had his fair share of Idon't even remember him being caught up in

(01:43:02):
something awful off the field. Hehas a reputation for the in the eccentricities
of his career, right, peoplekind of just blend that into he must
have been some kind of problem, which he was. He wasn't. And
here's the deal. That's as goodadvice as Tank Dell's gonna get from anybody

(01:43:25):
in or out of the league atany given time. And it's just it's
not like it's so many times somebodylike me says this, right, even
though chadow cho Cinco is technically Ithink either my age or older at this
point, it just comes off asold man, you know, blah blah
blah like. But here's the thing. He's talking about it from experience now,

(01:43:45):
from different generation. He's saying,I was a big time star.
I'm an NFL player, I knowthe people, you know people I was
in the It's just take it furtherthan that. He's forty six, by
the way, Okay, so yeah, he's three years older than me.
But it's it's different than that.Even it's just so many guys don't want
to hear what he just said, which is you just can't go places like

(01:44:06):
this or that. And it's like, well why not, I'm young,
I have all this money. Ijust want to have fun. And again,
by all accounts, tang Dell's apretty good dude, so it's not
even about that. It's just Idon't know, man, you can You've
got your whole life to do whateverafter this very very finite amount of time

(01:44:27):
of it in which you can beat your peak powers playing in the NFL
at that position. I just don'twant somebody like him, with his talent
to jeopardize it. And again it'snot even his fault. This seems like
it's a random thing. But Idon't know. Nothing good happens at you
know, whatever time in the morningit is. That's a whole cliche.
I don't even know if this wasearly in the morning, when was it.
I'm assuming it was at night,but I don't know. I don't

(01:44:49):
know the particulars. I just knowhe was at a club in Florida and
this happened. It was a privateparty leased out the club to have at
a pool party. Couple hundred peoplethere. Yeah, again, a twenty
one and older party where one ofthe two people arrested for firing shots was
sixteen years old. Yeah, itnever happens people that are younger than twenty

(01:45:10):
one getting in. But this isa little extreme, and I don't know.
I want to bubble wrap this wholeteam because I think it can do
things. That's where I'm at rightnow. I'm a little overprotective. I
do the same thing with my kids. I'd like to bubble wrap them.
I don't want I don't want Brooklynto actually go to college, for being
honest, just stay at all.Ever, what if she goes there the

(01:45:31):
lives at the house, that wouldbe great. What if her roommate at
college is you? Is that fine? No, because then I've got to
live in freaking Austin. I don'twant to go there for anything. I'm
sure most people are aware, butI'll tell them if they're not. The
statement from the Texans yesterday afternoon,We've been way aware that Tank Dell was
a victim of shooting and sand forFlorida last night. Sustained a minor wound,

(01:45:56):
but has been released from the hospitaland he is in good spirits,
and also ment his more recent conversationwith Chado cho Cinco. The Texans continued
said, we're in contact with himand his family and we'll provide more updates
when appropriate, but we asked thatyou respect to suprivacy at this time.
By the way, and our thoughtsand prayers are with everyone involved in this
incident. I think most people wereaware of the incident long before they knew
he was there because of the massshooting angle of it. Did he reached

(01:46:24):
out to him? He said, yeah, that's what he said. Okay.
I wonder how that conversation went,or even how it got struck up,
like what channels did he go throughto what he typed on his phone?
And then Tank typed back? Maybewhat you don't think they actually spoke,
You think he studied texted them.Okay, that's a little bit easier
to kind of envision. I justwondered what a conversation between Tank Dell and

(01:46:46):
Chado Cho Cinco would have sounded likea real live phone conversation about that topic.
Of all things, what else dowe have all right? Time check
five twenty five, and we haveyet to mention Charles Barkley and two well,
at least one town in a cityhere in the state of Texas.
The two audio pieces itself are long. So I just gave us the highlights

(01:47:09):
of Chuck this weekend talking about Galvestonand San Antonio. We all go,
y'all, can't y'all drive y'all y'allquit drive? Yeah, down to Galveston.
Come on, man, taking comeon the man. We're not getting
a no plane. Take it tothe beach, we say, there as
to Galveston, Texas right with adirty water. Watch up on the beach.

(01:47:30):
I can't even get no water. That water so dirt at San Antonio.
I'd really go to San Antonio tobig old women. So Chuck of
course saying that the New Orleans Pelicans, when they eventually make their trip into
the off season, they would notsend them the Cancuon. He would send
them to Galveston. So here's thedeal. What did he say that was

(01:47:55):
wrong? Like I know, likewhy people and Galveston are upset or whatever.
But like he's just I was therelast weekend. He's just telling the
truth. And oh, by theway, it does not help Galveston's cause
right now that The Jinks Part twois airing, part of which involved Robert
Durst killing his neighbor, chopping himup into pieces that he put into garbage

(01:48:20):
bags, and then throwing it intoGalveston Bay off of Channel View Road.
It's just not it is what itis. It's not their fault that the
Mississippi River dumps sediment down there andit turns the water brown. Not to
mention there's other things that turn thewater brown. You might not want to
get in there. It is whatit is. Just own it, Galveston,

(01:48:41):
It's okay. Do you have thesound of him thinking he needs to
ease up and back off a littlebit? Beg Some celebrities, very noticeable
Houston celebrity family said Hey, nowI believe it is in hereabout Beyonce's mom.
So how do you like Albiston? Now it's beautiful. We're not going

(01:49:02):
there. We're going to vacation. You've got to heal. Now, I
ain't going on Victors. He's gota chance to wipe the slate clean.
You got. I would go togas out that water's dirt out to San
Antonio. I'd rather go to SanAntonio to big old women. No,
no, I'm not going to GallusAnd I mean I want to go to

(01:49:23):
the beach down the river walking watchthem women walking down and said, you
know what, you know what, sat tomorre Okay, so you know what
we're gonna be rabbit got Chuck sanAntonio, and that's they That's why they
have been to Victoria's secret Jack. Why is it seem because they them little
women down and they can't get inthem. Cutela underwear, they wear bloomers

(01:49:43):
down in San Antonio. Oh mygod, so useless opportunity to rip apart
San Antonio is well. The reasonwhy he had this second comment for it,
why Ernie said where are you goingnow, is because they had just
read the tweet from Miss Tina Noleson Instagram, So not a tweet but
a post on INSTAGM miss Tina Knowles. I think you know you know who
that is, right, Beyonce's mom, Right, Chuck, We don't play

(01:50:05):
about Galveston, Texans. You betterwatch it, sucker. Our water might
not be blue, but there's stillthe beach and we love it. In
fact, what you probably don't knowis it's an island. She went on
and on, and prior to theaudio we heard, Charles looked sounded acted
like a full apology was on theway. He said, I don't want
that smoke. I don't want thebeehive all over. I don't want it.

(01:50:28):
And then what you heard was himreally not apologizing at all, No,
because he'll never apologize for anything, nor should he when it comes to
this. He's there to make peoplehappy, laugh, entertained. And by
the way, he does say hismom live in Galveston. I thought they
were from Houston. Have you Youjust pointed out her exact relationship to Galveson?
You have the same one. It'sright there and you go there,

(01:50:50):
yeah, you go there. Well, yeah, but I feel like some
people live in Houston for fifty yearshave probably been to Galveston? How many
times? Dozen? Lots of times. Yeah, it's fine, it's I
mean, her own daughter doesn't evenlive in Houston anymore or in Galveston.
She went out to California. Idrove by her house one time. It's

(01:51:12):
ridiculous. Made some money. Yeah, yep, all right, that's gonna
do it for In case you missedit here on a Monday edition of The
A Team. A lot to catchup on from over the weekend. By
the way, I must have watchedthat Charles Barkley video a million times,
as did Sean Marian in the comments. Yeah, the best part about it
was not even him, it wasthe shock he couldn't control himself. Laughter,

(01:51:33):
he's awesome. He couldn't breathe yep. I mean that's why kept going
on. And you know when youhave somebody in stitches and you just keep
going and going. There there wasthis one day I could not stop laughing,
and you were just like, seriously, man, because that's your go
to whenever you make me or anyoneelse on the Rockets broadcast, for example,
start laughing uncontrollably on the air, like Matt Thomas, and you just

(01:51:54):
stopped and you go seriously, dude, yeah, like I'm the one trying
to make jokes out of this personwhen the person himself made the biggest joke
about himself and his friend in theleague when they exchange jerseys. That's not
on me, that's on him.Yeah, but you decided to be a
juvenile. Oh you play on words. No play on someone like Matt Thomas

(01:52:15):
who can't handle it. Let's faceit, all basketball. He cannot handle
it on or off the air becausehe's twelve. And that's what happened that
night, and you had to goseriously man, which, by the way,
seriously, why haven't you called sevenone three, nine, one,
three, fifty two eighty five becauseyou're walking around with joint pain and your
knees and your hips, and yourshoulders and your back. God forbid you

(01:52:36):
have it in all four, butjust one of those where you're not tiptop
shape, hundred percent pain free, faux life. That is not the way
to go through life. You're notliving life to its fullest if you haven't
gotten a hold of QC Kinetics andwhat they offer. They offer the best.
Seriously, they are at the topthere. It's cutting edge technology and
nobody does it better. Nobody's gotmore experience doing it. That's regenera of

(01:52:59):
meta from QC Kinetics. The futureof medicine is there already at QC Kinetics,
and many of you who take advantageof it. Tens of thousands of
QC Kinetics patients around the country, and of course right here in our area
now living their best life again becausethey made the call and they no longer
have chronic joint pain thanks to regenerativemedicine at QC Kinetics. Seven one three,

(01:53:21):
nine, one three fifty two eightyfive for Houston area locations, each
with expanded treatment capacity for you totake advantage of what they offer. Cyprus,
the Heights, the Woodlands location,of course the location in Sugarland as
well. Make that call today, get set up with the free consultation and
get on the road to living yourbest life. It's seven to one three,

(01:53:42):
nine to one, three fifty twoeighty five for QC Kinetics. Listen
to Sports Talk seven ninety on thefree iHeartRadio app. It's all your music,
sports podcasts and talk free. Neversounded so good. Rockets versus Raptors
was a great game this year. Here, Well, yeah, I was
just talking about the commentary. NowI was off that night. You were

(01:54:06):
not had radio that night? Yeah, you had radio that night. Yep,
you had juvenile delinquency that night.Just revisit the audio during the break.
Good times had by all, especiallyMatt Thomas. Radio means listeners can't
see is that the greatestcribe the action? Was that the greatest Jersey exchange ever?

(01:54:29):
I mean, yeah, for thekids, the kids, the people.
By the way, did you everwatch that documentary on the T and
T Show inside the NBA? Yeah, uh yeah, I think so.
It's so good. It's like,I mean, there's not a whole lot
to it other than interviews with thefour of them, right, Well,

(01:54:51):
yeah, because it's I think it'sa four part episode. In each episode
is basically we're starting with Ernie andthen we're adding a person until it gets
to where it is. And andmy wife, who was admittedly not a
diehard sports fan in any way, shape or for him, she is the
casualist of the casual She's like,I want to watch that documentary. That

(01:55:12):
is the best show on television. Those guys are hilarious. She I mean,
she was watching it with me thisweekend. The clip of Charles and
Shack dying just got her every singletime. And it's like, like you
saw when Shaq finally beat Kenny tothe screen to the screen, which Charles
had already done. And people starttweeting in and like you need to retire

(01:55:34):
Jet because you're taking too many l's. And then one guy just tweeted him
and said why do they call youJet? And the other guy tweeted the
Jet breaking down. It's just amazing. It's like I'm with Charles half the
time, like why do we evenhave to talk about the games. Let's
just talk about anything other than basketball, which a lot of times they do.
Studio show news also today coming fromCBS Sports on the football side Oh.

(01:55:59):
They made some changes to next season'sNFL Today program. Gus Johnson's back.
The host remains the same James Brown, several analysts remain the same.
Bill Cower, Nate Burleson, andJJ Watt remain. Phil Simms and Boomer
A. Siasin. They decided formerblonde NFL quarterbacks were not required good because

(01:56:21):
they both are terrible on that show. I do not agree with that.
Why because Phil Simms is not realgood and Boomer Siason is totally fine.
They're both block like they have. When they added JJ, it was smart
and in the process of adding him, they didn't have an opportunity to slice

(01:56:44):
their panel. That's what they're doinghere. They just had too many people
there. Matt Ryan is joining themin the two absences of Simms and Boomer.
Wilmer's going to keep doing the restof the media stuff. He's on
New York Radio and he's very wellknown to me, and we had Matt
on the show. I feel qualifiedsaying this. He's very nice, but
that's that's I mean, he's justhe's like what he's replacing. Well,

(01:57:05):
I do I think he might bebetter there than he was in the booth.
Which is what he was doing formuch of his time last year in
a three man booth doing games instead. Now he'll be in studio doing what
JJ and Nate like, you wentdown the list, like you know,
Bill Cower, one coach, threeformer players, and a host. Yeah.
Bill Kawer looks like sergent slaughter. So he's got that going for him.

(01:57:28):
Nate Burleson's fantastic on television. He'sjust he's like Michael Strahan. He's
he's seamlessly if it can be doneon TV, like write it like here,
That's what I'm in comparison. Havejust been like multi faceted awesome.
I mean it was it was.He he's really good on Good Morning Football.
Yeah, and he's really good onmorning news. Whatever it is is

(01:57:50):
a Good Morning America? Which oneis he on? It's the Cbsvius,
CBS This Morning Sounds Good? Isthat the one where Harry Smith used to
be on. It's the one withGail Gail is the current anchor, Gail
King. Okay, who was thethird person that was originally there that you

(01:58:10):
mentioned on what the so you had, Nate, you had the only it's
two out counter So Cower, NateJJ and James Brown remain and Matt joins
them. So James Brown was theOK. Yeah, like I'm fine with
that, shake it up, andand JJ is good and he'll get better.
I think I agree. But let'sface it, all of them and

(01:58:34):
Fox it's I don't watch it.I wait till the game's about to start,
like I watch. I think everybodygot used to watching the longer form
because they're usually on for three outtwo hours, three hours depending on some
special programming. But the ESPN andtheir arm of coverage is usually where people

(01:58:56):
are and then they flip or usat least I can't speak for everybody,
but the numbers can. And thenyou flip over to your games or you
fire up whatever mode of red Zoneor direct TV, slash now YouTube to
get all your games. You goto the game itself. You don't watch
any of it, or do youwatch it in silence? That's miss Box.
Well no, I don't do that, although everybody in the NRG stadium

(01:59:16):
Press Box watches in silence because forsome reason you can't open up the very
open them all up. Wow,the is silent. I can hear the
football sound not as good as youcould if you'd open it. True,
I mean you're not opening the roof, so it's not a comfort thing.
And if you're going to tell methat it's too noisy, well then what
are you doing working in a footballstadium? Yeah? I don't know about
that. That makes no sense.Just open the glass? Yes, well,

(01:59:39):
I mean if it's closed because peopleworking in the press box thinks it's
easier to work and would prefer towork where it's quieter by keeping them close.
That's silly. But isn't that theonly logical? I don't have an
answer. I'll have to ask.You should ask. And also, by
the way I went to Uh Iwent to wasn't a sporting of it was?

(02:00:00):
Actually, well, I've been toa Texans Cowboys game at Jerry World,
but I also went to a WrestleManiaat Jerry World, both of which
took place in the press box. That's where my seat was. Could not
have been more of a sterile,no emotion environment at all, Like you're
you're two separated from the crowd. You were the National title game? Right?

(02:00:21):
Uh? Huh? Well I left, but you were there for part
of the game. Yes, No, okay, a Rockets game that night,
Oh, yeah, I had.I made you work, scheduled you
out of the National Title game. Thanks Dad. We had. We were
in club seats. That's where theauxiliary media was. I wanted to sit
there because it was a great spot. Yeah where those particularly were in the
end zone, but they were therewere fans that could have leaned over and

(02:00:45):
high fived us. Yeah. Wewere essentially sitting in a fan section.
It was also a Michigan fan section. Definitely felt like you were in the
stadium at the game and right amongthem. And I had Again, I'm
not writing a story, so I'mnot the same. But I had no
trouble working. But here's the thingon this is great. That's why I
wish all the games were like ChandlerRome is an example of this. Half

(02:01:06):
those guys that are writing that don'twant to deal with the noise. For
example, Minute made park wide open, there's no glass. They managed to
write their stories just fine. Andif they don't like the noise, you
know what a lot of them do. They have headphones they put on.
I see it. I can seeI can spot Chandler from a mile away.
Believe they make some noise canceling headphonesthese days. If you'd like.

(02:01:29):
And some people wear really obnoxious whiteones when they are covering Astro's postseason games.
That's my Jeff passing. All right, It's not as good as yours,
but I try so. Yeah,I just I think you should open
that thing up. It's been twentyplus years. Let's go ahead, let's
hear the CJ. Stroud era.All right, we got one more segment
to go and then we're gonna callit a Monday. Here on the eighteen,

(02:01:55):
Clinton, I'm Wexler, our ateam returned. Fine sports talk seven
your Rockets play here. Why dowe talk about Edwin McCain the entire commercial
break and then your reactions to it? I think that was on you.
Ed Mordon McCain undrafted in the twentytwenty four NFL draft, so need not

(02:02:15):
be discussed any further about. Doyou think when we go to the watch
along with James Vanderbeek for Varsity Blues, that he'll remember that this was the
song played in a seminal moment onthe Dawson's Creek series. Was this when
he this is when he kicked theladder over? Yeah? I don't know

(02:02:36):
anything about the show other than hegot he together with a much older woman.
No, he did not, hisfriend did. That's right. What
is the matter with you? Youthink Dawson can be pulled off sleeping with
his teacher, No way, andget with joseph by the way, Josephine
is her name Potter? By theway, Haasey's teacher m hot, No

(02:03:01):
kidding, shocker. What a storyline. So first episode we got to get
to a couple of things I threwin here because they're fun, they're part
of draft weekend and they should becelebrated. You're going to talk about,
well, go ahead. So wesaw it and we played it for listeners
on Friday night. When a coupleof the calls were made to a couple

(02:03:24):
of the Texans draft. It's agreat moment. Hopefully you're there with family
and friends. There's celebration going on. You haven't had wait too long?
Maybe you have, and that's whereone of these two calls comes in.
I've got Ballard and Jlyx in therefor you, But Dan will start with
the Indianapolis Colts general manager. Theymade several selections, just like everybody else
in this draft. They sometimes gooff without a hitch. Other times they're

(02:03:47):
met with a response. I gottasay I've never heard before. It's probably
happened before, maybe in the dayand age where there wasn't social media,
because there's a camera of some format pretty much every single draft party.
But when they got to what wouldbe their last selection, they were drafting
a player from Oklahoma, a defensivetackle, and Indianapolis Colts GM Chris Ballard

(02:04:12):
made the call to Jonah Lao,Wao, Jonah here, how are you
doing? Chris Ballard with the Colts. Welcome to Andy, Man. We're
drafting you right here. That's notall. It's not a prank call.
Apphichchi. It's been a stressful day, I know. And everybody's probably recruiting

(02:04:33):
the crap out of you right now, aren't they. You ain't lying now.
You can tell me to kiss yourass. You're coming to Andy.
I appreciate you, tell you somuch, absolutely, I know you.
So. Ballard had an interesting weekendfor the second year in a row,
just cursed up a storm at hispress conference, ripping the leaks that happened

(02:04:57):
during draft week and draft the day. And this was a lighter moment,
but on Thursday night, he rippedapart everybody for all the negative stories about
Adami Mitchell A d. Mitchell fromTexas and if you recall last year,
he did the same thing for C. J. Stroud when the S two
test leaks came out. He said, this is a bunch of bs.

(02:05:18):
Why people do this? Put yourname on it, and he was anonymous,
and I'm sure he's going to doit again next year. Yeah,
this other call, I heard itnot long after it happened, when the
Eagles put this out on their socialmedia. I was so interested in the
player because he was local. He'sfrom Houston Christian. Of course you'll be
happy to learn I listened to hisentire fifty minute conference call with the local

(02:05:41):
Philly media. Happy's the word I'mgonna use, but definitely not surprised.
He's awesome. I knew of himobviously. Here. Jaylyx Hunt, a
defensive end from Houston Christians, greatconverted safety, was at Yale initially in
his career and then transfer to HCUand made the switch from a normal size

(02:06:03):
safety to a guy that put onthirty pounds to play on the edge.
He's still small but hopes to getbigger. He is a very live personality.
Super happy, smiling, just justgreat person. And this is the
call with he and Howie Roseman, the general manager, the man calling the
shots with the Eagles. He hemust have had a pretty good meet with

(02:06:26):
him, and that listened closely towhat he says back to Howie when the
phone call begins. Yeh, it'swhat's going on. Man, it's Howie.
We won't pick you right here, brother, welcome to We're excited to
get you. Many jay with youthere? Yea there everybody. I hear

(02:06:53):
that. Hey, congrats, man, go enjoy this moment. I talk.
I can't wait to get all right. Hey, coach, I need
We'll get it to you. Manfinished the conversation off with the coach said,
I need the playbook asap. Ihad multiple buddies in high school that

(02:07:16):
would address me as what's up,big pimpin believe it or not? I
believe it. I mean I haven'theard that in forever. And he set
it to the GM. Yep,that's awesome. I like that guy.
And uh, he wasn't the onethat was talking about his coat once he
got to the podium, was he? That was Keon Coleman in Buffalo.
Well, I loved the coat conversationbecause it preceded all the questions. He

(02:07:40):
was having a conversation like nobody elsewas there and the media was just the
best part to me was after hewas done, he said, can I
grab some of those that had abig snack table set up for the media
in Buffalo? He was when wewanted some snacks. That's my favorite kind
of athlete. You're never too bigfor the room or the moment, and
you're real and down to earth.I love guys like that. Did not

(02:08:01):
expect the Texans to take a widereceiver early in the draft, even though
this class is crazy talented. Otherthan the guys right at the very very
top the top three, this isprobably the player I was most intrigued by
by how big a career I reallythink it can have. And he's easily

(02:08:22):
can become the number one in Buffaloright out of the gate. Well they're
gonna need that, so probably agood place for him to land. All
right. We will have plenty moretomorrow as we resume activities here on the
A team from Minute Made Park. It's Joey Loperffito Day tomorrow. That's what
we're calling it. The official namersof the day before anybody else can take

(02:08:43):
credit. And actually what I meanby that is it was Wex's idea.
And we'll see you out there inthe meantime. What are we going to
take out to the juice Box thefirst time that the Astros will have been
back there in a long time. What are we driving over there? We're
both going to be driving a vehiclefrom Classic Elite Chevy sugar And why wouldn't
we It is the best. Andif you don't believe me, then why
don't you just go look at theirhardware. GM Dealer of the Year thirteen

(02:09:07):
consecutive years. You don't get awardslike that for a baker's dozen years in
a row unless you're doing things theright way, and that's what they do
over at Classic Elite Chevy Sugarland.I was out there over the weekend and
went to pick up my plates formy ZR two. Got to take the
little guy with me, and ofcourse there was corvettes right there on the
showroom floor. He was very happyto be taking a picture with the white

(02:09:30):
one they had right front and centerwhen you walk through the doors. But
there's always something out there. They'vegot fifteen thousand dollars off select Silverado's four
k off of twenty four Tahoes andseventy five hundred off twenty four Blazers,
plus employee pricing for everyone. Ifyou can't make it to the Sugarland location,

who listened, and like we said, tomorrow we'll take you out to the

(02:10:16):
Juice Box. Astro's back in townfor not only the opener of a three
game set against the Guardians, butalso Joey Loperfedo day. Will he play?
