(00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adhamtalking your team? Who serious? Adam
Clinton and Adam Wexler. Are theA Team a go? And where's a
fancy show open today? Well, you were well on your way to one
until somebody decided to go into businessfor themselves last night on the Picture's Mound.
(00:26):
Welcome into a Tuesday edition of theA Team here on Sports Talk seven
ninety. You know wex It's onething when we kind of theorize about things,
right, You're like, I mean, did that guy? Did that
guy? By the way, that'sa wrestling term. I don't know if
you know that a pro wrestling term. He went into business for himself that
night. It's like hul Cogan alwaysused to say, it's a very ironic
(00:47):
thing for you to say, butgo on, yeah now, and I'll
let you explain what you mean, because I think I have an idea,
but I want to make sure.Famously, hul Cogan used to say,
now I'm going to work for mebrother, Like if he didn't like something
in the script once he got toWCW, just changed it. Wait wait,
wait, where's my leg drops?Oh? He did one time?
(01:08):
Seriously, four and a half minutesinto my walkout, I still have my
tiny little threadless tank top on.I haven't torn it off yet. The
dumbest question I ever asked Haul Koganin an interview, and I've interviewed him
a couple of times. This wason the phone and I uh, he
goes, I just got over backsurgery brother, And I go, what
do you have back surgery for? He's like, have you ever seen my
(01:30):
finishing move? My ca totally makessense. So basically, just landing on
your ass repeatedly, hundreds of timesa day or a year is probably not
good for you your lower back region. So anyways, I say all that
because sometimes we theorize, right, that guy went into business for himself out
there on the mountain last night.Rarely do you actually have the guy and
(01:51):
others around him involved go on therecord and admit as such. Well,
otherwise we would have not I don'tknow that you would have seen a line
of questions and you got to it. But clearly that's literally what you got.
Had they answered each of them individually, the manager, the catcher,
and the pitcher, had they answeredthem differently, you know, like when
you and your two buddies get takento the taken downtown and at some point
(02:15):
you're trying to get your story straightbefore they separate you into your own individual
rooms. Yeah, to ask youabout what happened and who you're going to
roll over on. They obviously didnot have that conversation or they said,
yeah, let's just kind of comewe don't care it yet, let's come
clean. I mean, and bythe way, what I need to I
need to know what you meant, why it was ironic that I used to
(02:36):
go into business self. Framber whoacknowledged, and we'll let you hear from
Framber or Fromber, excuse me,will let you hear from Yeiner, and
I will let you hear from themanager, who not only spoke after the
game last night, but being thatit is Tuesday, made his weekly visit
on The Matt Thomas Show and hassome more to say about that. He
also has some more to say aboutyesterday's topic, which has changed over the
course of the last twenty four hours. That was the Jose of Brady topic.
(02:59):
But in a game where the Astrosoffense, the multi RBI home run
offense came to play with both JoseAl Tuve and Mauricio dubon delivering runs for
Fromber, he decided to deliver runsfor the Angels to the tune of the
worst inning he's ever had as apitcher at the major league level. Three
home runs in an inning, aspan of just a few pitches, and
(03:21):
the game went from six to oneto six, four to seven, six
to eight, six, and hisnight was done. After what had been
a very good startup until that point, one really really bad inning. We
learned a little bit more about it. You're describing it as he decided to
go into business for himself, becausehe and the catcher and the manager all
ack knowledge that he went away fromthe game plan he went into business for
(03:45):
himself. Is actually a pretty accuratestatement. If he's let's say you're in
the restaurant industry and you've been workingwithin you're working for the owner, you're
working with the chefs where you're workingbehind the bar for wages, and you
said, all right, I've gotthis, I'm gonna open up my own
place. I'm going to go intobusiness for myself. What happens a lot
in that super unstable industry, anindustry that rivals our own, a very
(04:10):
unstable industry. The restaurant industry. You went into business for yourself thinking,
here we go, I am goingto launch my mega millionaire status here because
I'm going into business for myself,or more than likely, you fail,
you go out of business, youlose tons of money, and you have
to figure it out from there. And yesterday I was not willing to fly
(04:31):
off the handle on the Jose Bradstory, but I will on this one.
He didn't go into business for himselfin a positive way. He went
into business for himself and in myopinion, ensured that he has four months,
nine days and one season left asa Houston astro. Yeah. Yeah,
(04:54):
you know what. I actually sawthat a lot last night. Trading
block, trading block, trading block, trading block at a maximum good point,
it's not to me there's no longterm extension unless it is outrageously team
friendly, or he could potentially bemoved before the end of club control,
which comes at the end of twentytwenty five, for the reasons that I
(05:15):
just don't think they're going to bein the fromber Valdez business moving forward.
It wasn't a one this one item. But if he's going to give you
enough games and just take a lookat his last three starts. Ace material,
Ace material guy, you don't wanta round material. Well, he's
helping you win, But do youwant to commit? Do you want to
(05:36):
jump into bed with the fromber Valdezbusiness model. It's a dangerous proposition.
And that was long before yesterday's occurrences. This is a conversation we've had less
than the Tucker and Bregman conversations. But the consideration of is this long term
deal? They got a long termdeal done with Christian Haavier. They already
(05:56):
have some other pitchers under control foreither a while or have put a long
term deal in front of them inmccolors. So what did they want to
do with him? So this isan ongoing discussion of Colors deal almost over.
It seems like it, I feelsso. I do think this is
just one more thing to add ontothe scale of the pros and cons list,
and it's it moves from adding tothe list of cons to the first
(06:20):
thing or second thing in big boldletters on the cons. It's not going
to kill them now. He's notgonna do it again. It's not gonna
hurt the moving forward. This isnot going to ruin the team. It's
not going to kill the clubhouse. It killed him for one game when they
were going in the right direction forthree weeks and in that game. So
yeah, it is a big deal. But the other side of this,
(06:42):
regardless of who's at fault, andlet's just put it on, let's put
seventy percent of it on fromber forlast night, just because he's the one
that gave up the multiple multi runhome runs. Let's just put it.
Get that. You just I don'tcare however it happens. You cannot lose
that game to that team. Youcan't, well, you can't lose that
game to anybody. Correct, probablywhen you're up six to one, but
(07:04):
you really can't lose it to thefreaking Angels and their bottom of the order
guys are doing all the damage.Thank yesterday laughing at the Rangers for doing
the same thing. The Rangers arestupid though, that's the difference. Like,
you just can't. You can't beatthe Brewers two out of three and
then turn around and roll over anddie. See now you're making me.
You're making me say it. No, I texted it to you and never
(07:26):
hit send. You did. Yes, now you're making me say it.
So I'll say it. What theycan't lose last night, right, you
mean absorb one of the seventy threelosses. They can't do that, But
you can't. You can't lose yesterday'sspecific game under those circumstances. There's four
innings left in that game. Finishit off. Four plus innings, you're
up five, Finish it off. That is a win. That's why it's
(07:50):
a win. They're not gonna beatthe Angels twelve times moving forward. It's
just not likely if the couple's gonnalose game. Yeah, not that one
because of what happened already, Betterwin the next two. I'll tell you
that much. And here's the thing. You a couple of things. Actually.
First of all, stop telling mewhere's joy spending? Waity you con
sooner that bleep almost cussed? Thatbleep happened so fast? What was he
(08:13):
supposed to do? And remember oneof the three run homers came immediately after,
immediately the next pitch after Josh Millersaid, hey, groove this one.
Yeah, like they were trying tobuy time for him to get relaxed,
kind of buying time for somebody outof nowhere to get ready to come
in which again never happened. We'regoing to take him out in that eight.
(08:35):
He said it on the broadcast. It was Anchorman that escalated quickly.
Spotty didn't have time for that.So I get it, Thinning, it's
not the sixth or seventh eighth thathe's not tiring. He wasn't ever in
any trouble. I get it.You're mad at Joe Spotta because you got
to take out your rage on somebody. And obviously a Frommer's not going to
be the guy for whatever reason, even though he's the one that did it.
Here the reason with Pete. Buthere's the other thing. Seattle ended
(08:56):
the Yankees seven game winning streak lastnight, and the Rangers were just sitting
there on their asses and gained ahalf game on you as well. You
can't do that. Did you seewhat Seattle did to make that happen?
Yeah, I don't want to talkabout Seattle. I'm not in the mood.
I can't do it right now.All right, I've got listen.
I am officially yeah, But here'sthe deal. Much like not being allowed
(09:18):
until WEX says it's okay to lookat the scoreboard, I think okay,
and I think the Astros really really, you know, realistically, are the
ones that have done that. I'mjust still very much in the mode of
I'm gonna worry about my own dirtylaundry over here before I start thumbing through
yours. You, I don't carewhat good or bad is happening to Seattle
(09:41):
or the Rangers, because I learnedthat lesson the hard way last season.
When I finally got around to juststop, I couldn't. Of course,
I was still looking, but itall came down to what the last game
of the season, and like itor not, maybe even in the best
case scenario, that might be whatends up happening. I mean, for
sure, you you cannot expect thesetwo teams who are both good by the
(10:05):
way Seattle is playing how we thoughtthey were going to last year, and
they've got a better pitching staff rightnow than either of the other two teams
in this trio of conversation. Youknow, I know that because none of
them went in business for themselves.Over the last handful of games. You
think George Kirby was waving off Idon't like your game plan. That sucks.
I'm gonna do my own thing.Of course, even if he did
it probably would go better, butI just you just got to concentrate on
(10:28):
your own bleep right now, becausethere's a lot of it. Yep didn't
come in here and said, man, they blew one. They had one.
This was a game to get andconsidering how half of it went and
instead, it is more than aloss. It is more than just one
bad day at the office, onebad day for your starting pitchers. So
the aftermath from that, again fromtheir own mouths, both after immediately after
(10:50):
it happened last night and what Joespot I had to say about earlier today.
They are welcoming a teammate back ontothe roster in advance of tonight's game,
and they could soon be adding anotherteammate back onto the roster before they
play another road game as this homestandcomes to a close. So planning on
the board today, including we're gonnaempty the notebook was over at Texans earlier
(11:15):
today OTAs the beginning of their offseason on field workout program. Unfortunately,
yes, as mandated by the sportsmedia landscape, I did try to take
attendance out there, So we'll sharethat information with you, but more likely
and more happily share the actual onfield work with you and what was said
after. As we continue here theearly stages of the Tuesday edition of The
(11:37):
A Team, we now return toAdam Clinton and Adam Wexwerth on Sports Talk
seven ninety. So unfortunately, likeI said, the Astros not only lost,
but they lost their heads, atleast one of them last night.
So that's the point of contention herefor the team, for the players,
someone who will not be out thereon the mound for several days, a
(11:58):
couple days left of the homestand whichthey're now six and two on after last
night's loss to the Angels, Todayand tomorrow, and then they will be
out on the road in Oakland andagain might have an additional teammate back from
assignment. Then one teammate is backwith them now and in tonight's lineup Chas
McCormick, who will be looking toget on track, now, get back
(12:20):
on track, get on track. His time so far this year unfortunately was
not very productive offensively. He'll bein left field tonight. He will bat
ninth. Christianavierre, he's getting thebaseball to start, presumably will be in
lockstep with the Yerd as his catcher. It's okay to shake him off here
and there, it's not okay todeviate from the game plan that the entire
(12:41):
team and pitching staff agreed upon.Yiner back in the eighth spot. Spent
some of yesterday's program after your exitsaying, Jiner Diaz in the eighth spot.
Maybe this will help, because hehad not had a particularly good season,
especially while the Astros have been hot. He's barely done anything offensively.
The big run scoring double with thebases loaded against Milwaukee was massive. He
(13:05):
did pick up another RBI last nightand hit the ball very well, and
as I mentioned yesterday, all thatbeing said, he's still second on the
team in RBI is because nobody elseother than Tucker has been able to do
a whole lot. So he's backin the eight spot again tonight. Al
Tuove, Tucker, Alvarez, Bregman, Pagnas, Singleton won through six,
which has become pretty standard, andJake Myers is back in center field.
(13:28):
Cooled off a little bit yesterday, though he hit one of the best balls
of the night, just happened tobe too dead. Center did get those
two home runs, and I hadmentioned Diaz and Dubon as the only Astros
who did not have a home runsince the Mexico City reboot. All that
list got shortened by one because Dubonhit his and now Diaz hopefully can join
(13:50):
them. The very close last night, very much so. The nondescript Angels
tonight will throw Righty Griffin canning thehome run hitters last night all in tonight's
lineup. Also, Oh Hoppy andAdele batting near the bottom. Oh Hoppy
and Adele. Now does it soundlike a duet, because I know what
(14:11):
Adele sounds like, considering that's literal, that's what her name is. But
Hopy sounded like some singer she gottogether with on a collab. It sounds
like a couple of scrubs got looseon a guy who was shaking off his
catcher, much like the scrub pitcherthey started last night. Got lucky for
that very thing happening because Reed Debtmer'sis owned. But he is the Astros
bitch, there's no other way.Every time they play that guy, they
(14:33):
shew him. And it should havebeen a blowout win, and instead Fromber
went to business for himself. Andhere we are. So let's get to
what was said about it last night. Joe's Spota meets with the media outside
the clubhouse at the podium following eachgame. As the clubhouse opens and shortly
thereafter, you get a chance tomeet with the players. What Joe's spot
A sped specifically about Fromber last nightand if the emotions got the best of
(14:58):
him and it ended up with anant that gave us all the hmmm,
No, I think I think hejust kind of lost the you know,
like the game plan kind of lostit a little bit. You know,
he started making some pitches where, you know, I thought he was going
to go a different, different wayagainst certain hitters, and then he just
(15:20):
couldn't get back on track. Certainlynot and we mentioned even one of those
home runs, the second of them, the three run homer, was hit
immediately after Josh Miller had made avisit to the mound, when a six
to one lead was now six tofour lead and runners were on potentially with
the go ahead run at the plate, and the go ahead run then immediately
touched all three bases and home plateand they went ahead. Fromber did address
(15:41):
the very same topic, and here'swhat he said after the game through his
translator. I thought we did agood job. You know, Jenner did
a really good job calling pitches.I was the one that decided to go
against the game plan and try tochange the game plan. How was he
had to deal with the consequence theyhad a pretty bad game. But Dinner
did a really good down call himpitches. So before we to what Yiner
said, he said, I,you know, suffered the consequences. That's
(16:06):
partially true. It's not an I. It absolutely should have been a Wii.
Well, it's a team game, but those two are a battery.
Well, he's talking about him personally, while he helped, not the only
reason. And even if he stickswith the game plan, it doesn't guarantee
you that they don't score any runs. But he went rogue, it didn't
cost him. He didn't. Heonly so, Yeah, your e er
(16:30):
went up, and your loss addedone to it that the team lost.
You cost the team. The teamsuffered the consequences of your decision. Would
have been much better said that way, so he could bring everybody into who
he actually affected in such a negativeway. You know, think about when
we go off on these hitters runnerson first and second, nobody out a
(16:52):
pitchers just absolutely cannot find the strikezone and an astro hitter goes up there
and tries to bunt and he popsup like Joe or Dusty or aj or
Bo Porter or Cecil Cooper. Didyou guys call for that? Was that
from the dugout? No, hedid that on his own into business for
himself. I mean, it's wego crazy because it makes no sense.
And this is when a pitcher doesit, and it's a little bit maybe
(17:15):
it's a little cloud here because somepitchers aren't in trouble for doing it,
like the ones like Josh Hater forinstance. Hey, what's he doing right
there? He's grabbing his pitch Colmso he can tell the catcher what's coming.
He's calling his own game. He'scalling his own pitches. And it's
also obviously okay to shake guys offhere and there or more than that,
not quite as much as last nightwhen it goes against the game plan.
(17:37):
Yannard. He has obviously also addressedthe situation, and he did agree,
of course, with what the managerand then the pitcher himself said took place
there in the fifth inning. Don'tfully don't what to answer that. You
know, maybe he saw it asas a way that I can get back
into the game plan. But youknow, obviously there's something that didn't work
from and you know, things thatpassed happy the game again through the translator
(17:59):
Jen Lowe. We appreciate him beingthere for that. So it's not normal,
it's not typical. And it wasalso asked of Jainer, is this
a typical? Is this out ofthe ordinary? Has this happened before?
And he said it has not happenedbefore, certainly not to this extent.
You know, deviating from a twoto one pitch to this particular hitter in
this particular instance with a shaking ofthe head is pretty different than deviating from
(18:25):
the game plan over a course ofhitter after hitter after hitter, and he
kind of explained why. So it'sit's awesome on the outside to get the
information, you know how we oftenmock postgame pressers or daily talks where oh
wow, we had thirty minutes withNick Cassario today and here's all the important
information we got and we're done alreadybecause there wasn't any right, this was
(18:45):
extremely important information for outsiders, whichin this instance we and everybody listening are
well. Now, I think youknow why the Astros go with discomfort so
much all the time, because whenthey actually give us the full monty,
we can't have. So. ChristianZavier is pitching tonight and Chas McCormick is
batting ninth to night. Both wererecently on the IL, one with neck
(19:07):
discomfort and the other with right hamstringdiscomfort. Because you love this topic,
what is it that you want fromthe astros, either in written form on
the IL or when they speak tous and describe it. Do you want
to know he slept wrong? It'sthe left side of his neck. It's
a little store, it's a littlestiff when he turns to his left.
(19:27):
When he releases a pitch which he'shad a hard time doing, it hurts.
Is that what you want? Lookhow many words you just use,
more than one word discomfort, Buthow does it help? It doesn't.
He doesn't feel good. It's it'she has discomfort. Because you describe the
situation in a little bit more detail, but you also individualized it. You
(19:47):
didn't put a blanket, not evenstatement. You didn't put a blanket word
now for every injury you do chess, right hamstring discomfort? Yeah, Oh
you want me to give him likethe you want the full money for him
what I did for Hovey. Uh, Well, he I had something that
was a little bit nagging. Itkept him out a little bit longer than
we would have liked. We thoughtit better to not rush the whole situation.
And now he's good to go,and you know, hopefully I don't
(20:08):
know where he supposed to be.You didn't say say a word. Well,
I just say discomfort. You saida lot of things, but they
didn't tell me anything. Well, unless you're actually in the guy's body,
that's that's the real thing. Butyou can you can do more than a
casual throwaway word. By the way, before we move on from this topic,
I have to address a tweet thatI got. It wasn't addressed to
(20:30):
you in the last twenty six minutes. Yeah, awesome showtime tweeting we were
open for business at Adam Clanton,at Adam J. Wexler, at Dan
Matthews Hou And remember you're yelling athim as he is with you with his
handle all caps. This is fromIvan and then he has like ten digits
after his name. So he's beenon the X platform for a long long
(20:51):
time. Well, I don't know, because he actually has a picture.
It's on an egg. Okay,so I don't know. I mean,
I could look at his account, but I just I'd rather just get to
the tweet. Uh, he says, any rights. I don't get why
people are like so butt hurt aboutwhat Fromber did. He admitted he was
wrong and if he owned up toit, not getting all the hate.
Please if you read this, letme know how to understand love your show
(21:14):
and the VIDs. And I wroteback, you want to know what I
said? I said, I ranover your dog and it died. But
I owned up to it, andI know what I did is wrong.
So why am I still getting allthe hate from you? Get it?
Okay? So before I address it, shouldn't it be well? Can we?
I wanted to say, we shouldwait for his response? Well,
he responded, let's have it.Okay, Yes, sir, I understand,
(21:37):
but it was just one game.He sounds like you would you risk
losing him? Burner found would yourisk it'd be something if you were sitting
over there tweeting me during the show. Would you risk losing it? He
actually put lossing would you risk losinghim for just this outing? I think
loyalty is a big factor here.I'm gonna be honest with you, Ivan,
I have no idea what that means. Well, two things. A.
(22:03):
I was wrong. He's been along time ex user since the twenty
eighteen okay, and b or two. His header photo is legendary. Let
me bring up Ivans. Oh it'sgood, right people. I think people
mistake that, you know how Iknow that we describe what it's a white
house visit. It's a white housevisit from the first championship, very different
(22:26):
from the second one in that joseAl Tuve is making a very surly expression
towards the back of the head ofthe president at the time. But I
don't think it was because he disagreedwith his politics. I think it was
because he said that Game seven wasone of the greatest seven Game seven was
related. Oh my gosh, Like, come on, Donald, did you
(22:48):
watch the series? We know youdidn't so quickly. Is there a point
to what Ivan is discussing. Arewe saying it's too much? I mean,
look at me saying he's they're notgoing to extend his contract. They're
not going to offer him an extension. That's while for the player over this,
it isn't only over this. It'sa series of events. It's concerns
about injury, it's concerned about alot of things. It's concerns about his
roller coaster of emotions. It's concernedabout his most recent postseason versus his tremendous
(23:15):
postseasons past. He's unbelievable in thepostseason for so many years, less so
here recently and most recently when anykind of reasonable performances from him in the
postseason, and the Astros would havehad a real opportunity for Championship number three
because they at least would have beenplaying in the World Series. So I
can see it from his side.I do think it's a big deal because
it's it's not especially for a team. We going on about Martin Maldonado like
(23:41):
all the time, he's so good. Brad Austin the same thing. They
put all this emphasis into planning, into the numbers, into research, They
spend time. They don't just goout there and say, hey, Farmber
is a good pitcher and we area good team. Throw whatever you guys
feel like and we'll see what happens. There's so much effort put into a
game plan for a pitcher to sayno not today. That's to me,
(24:03):
that is a big deal. Doyou think that that was why they weren't
very good hitters? They were doingso much planning for the other guys?
Oh, the catchers not great well. The other day, and I think
it was off the air, youwere talking about Jeremy Pany and Carlos Carell,
well, the greatest shortstops the Astroshave ever had. But who are
they even competing with? Right Whoare the great offensive catchers in Astro's history
(24:27):
or in baseball history? Really schemeof things. I mean, there's Poses
and Piazzas, and Pudge and theother Pudge. There's there's plenty of offensive
catchers. You know. The catcherfor the best team in the National League
is an offensive catcher, and avery good one unless Chas McCormick is in
the outfield catching your long fly ballsfor outs. But pretty good nonetheless,
(24:48):
sorry not sorry, By the way, I had that with Da The Astros
were in the running for him atone point, weren't they. Oh,
I mean, from from an outside, well, they need to get better.
Yeah, wow, I I likewho they have at catcher right now.
I really do. Fromer didn't lastnight, but not for a few
pitches anyways, and it'll cost himjust his words, not ours. We'll
continue to discuss as we continue hereon a Tuesday edition of The A Team.
(25:11):
And yes, we do need toget some of the conversation over at
the other stadium that's currently working intown. The Rockets man, they gotta
get back to the playoffs. Ineed all three teams participating in my sports
every single day of every single weekof the year. All right, We'll
continue to discuss all this and morewhen we come back here on a Tuesday
edition of The eight Team. Oh, Dylan Brooks here, back to Dylan
(25:33):
reverse lamp goddess, stay clutched withthat. iHeartRadio app here every Rockets game
on Sports Docs seven ninety. Thereit is Dylan Brooks, Home of your
Rockets, Rockets, it is theA Team here on Sports Talks seven ninety
Tuesday edition of the program wex overtheir ac right here. The show Killer
Dan Matthews producing is we take youup until six o'clock tonight. Astros will
try to right their wrongs from lastnight. I just like to be dreads
(25:57):
now you remember bull durn right,uh huh. But it's been a while,
so Martine Maldonado aka Crash. Davisis behind the plate and the hot
shot pitcher know it all, hugeego, I'm gonna be in the show,
and you're just some piddly little catcher. Can't do anything about it.
They're trying to work together. He'strying to help shape him into a major
league picture. We have the scene, by the way. We have the
(26:18):
scene by the way, Yeah, fastball. Sucker teet off in that,
like you knew I was gonna throwa fastball. He didn't know. I
told him we have us scene. So he was there saying, if you
remember the movie, what happens.Right after that, he says something about
(26:41):
that every time he puts a signdown the most over the top, nodding
in agreement. Yes, whatever yousay, Crash, because he's proving a
point. Now. None of thosehome runs last night came because Yer said,
I mean, hey, man, okay, go ahead, serve it
up. You know what you're doing. Don't worry about little old me here,
who's a understands the game plan andknows what we want. Just go
(27:04):
ahead, serve it up. Andthen obviously he went ahead and told I
mean, I guess I'll say hetold Logan o'happy what pitch was coming,
just so he can tie it alltogether. He was a scrubbier of the
two. Right, he's actually good, he's not good. He's on the
Angels. Well, then how dothey keep winning games? I don't know,
because they're not as untalented. Ifthe players that like Joe Adell has
(27:26):
been a disastrous someone they probably thoughtof getting rid of five times had to
play and in the field. Buthe's finally starting to look like the major
league prospect that he once was.And o'hapi would have had a really good
season last year had he not beenhurt. He's a good young offensive catcher
who's now unlike Trout and unlike Rendonthis year, he's healthy and he's out
(27:47):
there. What's funny is, fora long time, and this obviously wasn't
the case last night, but youwould see a scrub and you knew this
guy was a scrub. Whoever itwas, name a team, name a
scrub. He was the guy hittinghis first home run of the year,
and it was always coming off anAstros pitcher, and a lot of times
it was coming off of Hunter Brown. I'm just picking on him a little
(28:07):
bit. That felt a little bitlike that last night, but more so
because it's like, really, theAngels, the Angels are doing this.
You're allowing the Angels to do this. You it's you. I'm not even
it's not even taking credit away fromthe Angels hitters, whoever they are.
It could have been Mike Trout lastnight if you were healthy. It's just
that when you believe firmly that theAstros and this includes fromber are better from
(28:33):
a pitching standpoint, it's going tohurt no matter who it is. But
it's really going to hurt when it'sa six to one lead and you find
out after the game that the reasonthat this was happening, in large part
because of the principles involved. Thinkof this was because I went to rogue.
I went into business for myself bolder, and it does make it super
easy for us to be not condescending. But hey, obviously it went badly.
(28:56):
Well, it didn't have to gobadly. Is moving away from the
game plan could have worked. Itcould have been successful. Throws hit right
before he throws the pitch blums likeget a ground ball and get out of
this thing, or or it cango to the cheap seats. Yeah,
whether they were poorly executed, whichis often the case where we sit a
(29:17):
Hunter Brown start, or a Verlanderor Javier or Arraghetty start, this was
those pitches were most likely also poorlyexecuted. Not only were they away from
the game plan, but he hitthe ball was down the whole game,
first four innings down. Everything wasdown. He was in a good spot
and that's why they were beating theball into the ground and he was having
a typical start. These pitches werehitters pitches poorly executed, even if they
(29:42):
were a game plan or not, they were where a hitter would want to
tee off on it, as incatching a lot of the plate. Need
to rectify that. Can still winthis series, clearly, can still move
themselves into good positions they had onon the road, and they are still
looking for the win that earns thema check mark in what they needed to
do on the homestand they gotta winseven games. We said that before,
(30:03):
they need to win at least seven. I did think they needed to win
three series. If you win sevenout of ten games and it's not three
series, well then you got theother thing you had to have and that
was a sweet the first of itskind for the Astros in twenty twenty four.
On the positive side, more ofthose and they'll be fine. A
schedule around Major League Baseball is alittle fuller than it was yesterday. You
(30:26):
mentioned the Rangers were off yesterday.Like the Seattle Mariners, they're taking on
the best. The Rangers are inPhiladelphia to take on the Phillies. Rangers
are five hundred now, twenty fourup, twenty four down. The Phillies
have also played forty eight games. They're twenty games over five hundred. At
thirty four and fourteen, they're thebest team in the National League. I
(30:48):
don't care what the Dodgers say.I agree. The Yankees are hosting the
Mariners. The Yankees had a sizeablelead, I guess you could say,
handing the ball off to their closerwho had no yet been scored upon in
twenty twenty four. They got himfor four runs. Although it was a
typical I can't believe this is happeningtype of inning, a bleeder on the
infield, the guy beating this out. Whatever needed to happen for them to
(31:12):
win the game happened to Clay Holmes, who couldn't even finish the ninth inning,
but those of their opponents. Whilethe Astros should be hopefully taking advantage
of an Angels team, Angels arenineteen and twenty nine. Astros are twenty
one and twenty seven. As Imentioned Christian Javier against the ball tonight.
They have the off day on Thursday. As the turn through the rotation continues.
(31:33):
The expectation is that Renel Blanco willbe back in it when he can't
come off the IL or the suspendedlist. Excuse me, which is the
twenty sixth and the lone major Astrostopic for the last twenty four hours we've
not yet hit on. Is whatwe're going to hit on next in hopes
that the player will hit on thebaseball properly when he rejoins this baseball team,
(31:57):
however soon that might be. Jose'll bray you back to the Astros,
he said with a question. Elevatedblood pressure from one member of this

helpful tip while writing with Adam Clintonand Adam Wexler. The eighteen continues on
Sports Talk seven ninety I gotta readaloud from a text exchange I had with
Adam Wexler last night. Gotta scrollup a little bit, So I asked
(34:36):
him point blank at about seven pointthirty remember that text I said I never
sent there. It is still inthe holster. Oh my gosh, you're
the worst um, not a liar. Yeah, your text that you sent
at the very tail end of thegame was equally impressive. Okay on brand,
Let's just put it that way.So again, let me take you
(35:00):
back to a little more than twentyfour hours ago. We're sitting in here,
and I'm kind of like half playing, half serious about the level of
panic after hearing about Dana Brown andwhat he said about the Astros flirting with
bringing Jose of Bray you back, maybe even as soon as the Oakland series
could be, to have him ona flight, get him out to Oakland,
(35:21):
and you know, we'll see howthings go. Maybe get him into
a minor league gig, double Atriple A game. We'll see how it
goes. Yeah, he said thatit's always Robert Ford on his Sunday appearance
again, He'll be on Tomorrow morningwith the Sean Salisbury Show, nine thirty
am. Each and every Wednesday.Dana Brown with Sean and Bryant wonder if
he gets a talking to? WhoDana gets a talking to from Sean?
(35:45):
He always gets a talking to.It's a friendly back and forth talking to
Okay, like what the bleep? He is not even his fault, it's
not so take us back and thenwe'll move forward. No, just the
could and the maybes I think werethe two words that you brought up.
Take us back to our exchange. And at seven thirty last night, I
said, and I knew what Iwas doing. Hey, poke, poke,
(36:06):
feel better slash worse after hearing aSpota talk about a bray you.
Now we should probably give some context, at least tell what a spot has
said, if not play it outright. Yesterday we was the beginning of
the show because it had taken placeas the day's events were moving forward before
the game about the idea that hecould be back, the idea that the
astro I mean I described as it'salmost like they had made a deal with
(36:30):
him. If you agree to moveto minor league camp, rookie level ball,
work on your swing, Jeff willjoin you. Then we will agree
to when you feel right, whenthe reports say it's time, not only
will we activate you, will playyou in order to kind of check on
the result. We can't can't sayif you can hit, if we can't
(36:52):
put you out there to hit.And that last part is what made my
skin absolutely crawl last night because JoeA spot out right said that last part,
and I get what he's got.I know what he's saying. Doesn't
make it any better because what he'ssaying is we're not gonna know unless we
play him. But what he doesn'tknow, apparently, and what they don't
(37:13):
know apparently is what you and Iand anybody has eyeballs in their head and
are not ignoring the fact that youspent this much money on a guy.
And that's what this is really allabout. And Jeff Bagwell probably be a
little bit sensitive about being criticized aboutbeing the ring leader of bringing him in
here. All of those people don'tknow what we know, which is that
we don't need to see it.We've already seen it. Nothing's gonna happen.
He didn't get better, he gotolder literally while he was there.
(37:35):
Nobody messages saw player's ages in days. Well, the minute that guy turned
thirty six twenty, he got demonstrated, probably worse, and yes, I
added a syllable to that. Thatwas how young he was twenty four days
ago, and now look at himtwenty four days later. There's no way
he got better. And I'm justthe picture of him and Jeff Bagwell down
there. It was so perfect becauseit's just like I saw one guy and
(37:58):
I don't know who it was,and I'm paraphrasing because I'm not gonna remember
exactly what it was. He saidsomething along the lines of Jeff Bagwell looks
like a disappointed little league father, the one where he's walking in front of
him with his water bottle, likethis guy sucks. Oh, it's not
like that. He's working with him. He's like a proud dad beating to
see the results of their combined hardwork together. This is his dream.
(38:22):
I'm just here to help him.He wants to be a major leaguer.
I have some experience with I helpedhim get to this point. I just
want to see what I can doso I can get back up into the
stands, enjoy the game, maybecatch a snow cone or two and watch
them baseball and sere from the standslike the greatest Little league parents do.
All right, First of all, shaved ice is the preference weak. The
(38:45):
funny thing you say that. Mygot a family who lives in Austin.
My wife's brother's daughter is softball player. Huh, play tournaments all over the
place. They were in over theweekend miles stolenment tournament. So we went
out there to catch up with them, watch the game, and I fully
(39:07):
expected this eight field complex to beof course there's a concession stand, and
there actually was, but totally hiddenin the back. Basically had your your
statele item was a bunch of oversizedswimming in a jar. Absolutely, but
there was one stand food truck inthe middle of all the fields selling shaved
(39:27):
ice. Do you remember the nameof it? You can rhyme it if
you need to. Uh not atypical chain store there, Marama MUCKs.
Oh my god, that game changer. That place is awesome. I've got
my whole family own. Yeah, shaved ice at the ball ballyard for Jeff
as he watches Jose uh swing thestore. I'm gonna be very very blunt
(39:49):
here. I love my son morethan life itself. You guys know that.
You see the pictures of the socialmedia posts I took him to the
game on Sunday. It was spectacular, just great. You got to see
three home runs and a win.If my son is ever attempting to play
baseball, t ball, what haveyou? And it's that feudal at that
point. Maybe we used to playsome legos. Maybe you play soccer,
(40:10):
Well, maybe you just don't.Do you think Jose Abreu looked like as
a ballplayer thirty years ago, buthe was probably the best player by a
lot, right, But now he'sthirty seven and he plays steals money from
the astros. See the stealing moneypart for athletes. They're giving it to
(40:31):
you. You're not stealing you.Would you like this? You have to
say is yes, you don't goto a bank with wielding a weapon,
and well, technically, because you'rewielding the weapon, they actually do say
would you like this? Because they'reafraid for their lives right when you walk
in the door, it's not heretake it until they realize, uh,
oh, you just said twenty fourdays correct, Yes, roughly you lost
(40:53):
the number city reboot. How muchmoney has he made per day since being
in a Florida complex and not ona major leage roster. Money's good here,
he's making it real. He's notstealing it because they offered it.
The money is going to him regardlessif he comes back in play as well.
Exactly, just liquidated back money whichyou've spent into a better scenario,
(41:15):
which is keep the typhoid away fromyour roster and let the platoon or whatever
you want to call it while you'replaying your best baseball of the season.
Even with last night's loss, ashas been the case for this whole time
period in yesterday too, I haveto at least slightly pushback on that.
Why he didn't kill them and he'snot going to kill them again. He
(41:37):
is going to kill them again, isn't he is? He's not going to
help them. Probably then you're killingthem. But you're also making it out
like the replacement for him. Ohmy god, he's so irreplaced. How
can you take John Singleton out ofthe lineup. I don't want to turn
this into a bash John session, but he's like automatic in their lineup.
(41:58):
He's not an automatic out. You'reright, And if drastic improvement and is
again an automatic out, you're gonnasuffer for the two to three weeks that
he shows that, and then it'llall be over. So, but okay,
and you'll go back here with asix twenty. Oh ps, this
is a very important question. I'mnot kidding when I say this. I'm
not being a smart ass. Iknow that's gonna be hard to believe when
(42:20):
it comes out, but you justhave to trust me. When you bring
him back and he sucks again, which he will, but just just for
the sake of argument, when youbring him back and he sucks again,
then what are you gonna send himback to Florida? No, then he's
gonna be sitting there. No,he's not gonna be You're gonna cut him
of course. Okay, does heknow this? Yes, So they've already
had this conversation and they might nothave had it, but it's so obvious
(42:42):
this is your last hurrah. Yes, and even though they are still again
despite last night's loss, you're stillplaying your best baseball of the season.
After they take the next two gamesfrom the Angels and they fly out to
Oakland, he's gonna be on thatplane or he's gonna meet them there,
and he's gonna be in the lineup, isn't he? Because Joe spot said,
we all know Jo we blame wellI'm sure today Joe spot mentioned if
(43:05):
he did that. Going back toOakland is where we think it's all going
to begin again. Don't you guysremember last year when he slid into the
dugout after his first home run ofthe year in June in Oakland? I
remember, I remember one of thebooks transition into the notebook from OTA's with
the Texans. We'll obviously get backto this topic quite a bit over the
(43:25):
next two hours with a little Texansshadow what took place there, a little
attendance report, and your guy cJ. Stroud throwing passes to your other
guy. Take dell, it happenedon the field today. We'll talk about
it next. Two lifelong Houston sportsguys named Adam Talking Your Teams series,
(43:46):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are theA team a four o'clock hour here on
the EIGHTEAM. It is Tuesday. We'll have a few items, as we
usually do each and every weekday afternoonsignature segment of say what is coming up?
At four fifteen four thirty, wewill give you a chance to see
(44:09):
Sir mix a Lot perform coming uplater this summer. Be over at the
House of Blues, We encourage youto listen closely over the next half hour,
just as you have over the firsthour of the show. Something said
over the next half hour will bethe answer to a question we will ask
you at four thirty when we havean opportunity to give away those tickets a
(44:30):
pair of tickets to go see Sirmix a lot at the House Oh Blues.
So listen close. We get intoa few things we've not yet discussed
here because it is Texans time hereon the A team get back to the
Astros and some of the things maybewe hear from the ballpark today. Chas
McCormick back in the lineup, obviously, that means he was activated earlier today.
Never told you the corresponding move.Tray Cabbage was sent back to Triple
(44:54):
A the Sugarland Space Cowboys. IfJose Abray makes his way back, or
Jose or Keaty is ready to comeback after his upcoming weekend rehab start,
moves will also have to be madeto get that twenty six man roster back
in place. The Texans ninety manroster not necessary for them to be in
(45:15):
attendance today. At voluntary workouts thefirst week of several weeks of on field
training sessions the OTAs have begun forthis summer, and as expected, a
handful of players were not participating,And I would remind and encourage people to
be aware that when you get reportsfrom those on site or others that say
(45:37):
this player was not practicing, hopefullythat's how it's said, because that's the
best, most accurate and literal wayto say. It doesn't necessarily mean they
aren't there. It doesn't mean theyaren't participating in what the Texans are doing
other than on field practicing. Sokeep that in mind every time you hear
comments about it or those who aresupposed to know saying things about it,
(46:00):
Like for instants, if I saidTitus Howard was among the players not practicing
today, that would be accurate. He was not practicing. He was not
out on the field during the portionopen to the media, which essentially was
the entire practice. But I didn'tsay he wasn't there with the team at
the facility, because if I did, I'd be lying because he was there
(46:21):
and he is at the facility andI actually saw him, just not on
the practice field practicing. So keepthat in mind with a lot of the
veteran players. He is certainly thatnow Laramie Tunsel. Similarly, the offensive
line they had out there on thefield today, if everybody's healthy, well
three of the five guys running withthe ones, if you will, for
the very brief period of time, there wasn't even such a thing as the
(46:42):
ones. Well, they weren't onthe field. There's no Shaq Mason,
there was no Laramie Tunsel, therewas no Titus Howard. He only starts
six players on the offensive line, and three of them did not practice today.
And for whatever reasons that might beTitus Howard being there, maybe he's
not physically prepared to practice. Idon't currently have a full answer on that.
Stefan Diggs not practicing today has obviouslybeen around the team and with the
team, as you'll hear from hishead coach talk about of moving forward.
(47:06):
But on the other side of things, there were several other players that weren't
there, And again I value thetime here greatly. I don't hold anything
against these players, nor do Ithink it sets them back in any way
for not being on the field forsome of these OTAs. I think the
players that are out there benefit fromit, and I understand both sides of
it. One player who was outthere heading into his second season would love
(47:30):
it to be a full season. And going back to our questions at the
golf tournament and previous to that, both for the ownership group Hannah and Cal
McNair and the head coach, Tamikoryans On, tank Nell said both parties,
you know he's gonna be fine. He'll be back with us. We
never really got an exact timetable onwhen he would be back, just that
he's gonna be fine. He's gonnabe ready to go, as in ready
(47:52):
to go when we need him.Well, he was ready to go today
on the field, practicing in fullas full as it might be. For
again, ota number one, andthat was question number one for the head
coach to Mieko Ryans. So Ihappened to Tank to get back out there.
You know, it went through avery tragy situation. Right. We're
just happy that he's here, happythat he's back out being able to do
(48:15):
what he loves doing, that's playingfootball. So it's fun to see him
running around right, being the sameplayer he's been Before's is making plays right,
being a dynamic player for us.So everyone is excited to see Tank
back out, most notably number seven, probably everybody else, but yes,
since this is huge, if youhad been paying attention to social media,
(48:35):
probably already knew what Tank physically wascapable of doing on May twenty first,
anything he wanted to do. That'swhat was evident with his workouts from with
Delfonte Diamond and everybody else he's beenwith over the course of the last couple
of weeks, even post shooting incident. So he was out there practicing in
full and everything looks full go forhim, as was the case for most
of the wide receiver group. NoahBrown did not practice, but he was
(48:59):
actually out on the field for thelate stages of the brief practice today.
Robert Woods is still with the team, and I hate to say it like
that, but I find it hardto believe that all the guys currently signed
at the top of their depth chart, considering some of their contracts his specifically,
we'll all be here when the seasongets here. But he's out there
with the team, practicing in fullwith everybody else. John Metchi, Zavier
(49:21):
Hutchinson. There was no Stefan Diggsthere today, and I don't know that
I expect him for much, ifany, of the voluntary portion of the
Texans offseason on field portion, buthe'll be there for mandatory mini camp and
he'll be perfectly capable of helping thisteam in exactly the way they hope when
they sign him. Interesting that Dimikohas asked a question about the skill sets
(49:43):
of the three top three receivers inthat I think we'd all agree they bring
something different to the table. TankDell and what he can do and how
you'd want to use him, Nicosimilarly, Stefan similar They all can do
different things. And he did acknowledgethat that it's an asset for a team
to have players like that. Butspecif were there things about Stefan Diggs that
you liked, thought would fit orwas it really it's Stefan Diggs. Chancellor
(50:07):
Johnson from Channel two asked in thatand he smiled and said, he's Stefan
Diggs. Like I know, hecan do all those things. It's great,
but he's a productive player. He'sawesome. He's gonna be awesome here.
That's why he's here. Here's whatDemiko said about working with Stefan Diggs.
It's been really fun working with Diggs. You talk about a guy who's
Dowa Dan, guy who loves football. He's been fun to work with him.
(50:28):
It's been fun just to see thechemistry that starts to Bill in a
locker room with him. Quarterback, other receivers, offensive players, defensive player.
He's just he's going to be areally great fit for what we do
here. Sounds like he's like cautiously, very optimistic. I don't think there's
(50:49):
anything cautious about it at all.Well, what I mean by that is
we're all putting them in the superBowl. We're all at least putting him
in the AFC Championship and giving PatrickMahomes a run for his money. Demico
knows better than anyone how hard itwas to do just what they did last
year, the only team to goworse to first make the postseason, do
(51:10):
what they did and have a successin the postseason. This is all I
know. We're talking about these namesthat we're thrown around on the roster.
Bobby Slowick is the guy from thisoffseason, because none of this is going
to happen whatever you want to happen, at least on that side of the
(51:30):
football, obviously without him working hismagic again. And I think that's safe.
I don't think that's an over hypedtype term to use. That's what
was a big part of everything.Yeah, CJ, CJ. But you,
I mean if he had left, put this way, if he had
left this offseason, somebody did poachhim, you would see a difference,
don't I think it'd be better orworse. I think it's something that gets
(51:52):
overlooked. If I put a pollquestion out and gave you eight options,
what was the best thing to telldid this offseason their top two draft picks,
Daniel Hunter, Stefan Diggs, anynumber of things. I shouldn't have
to go past a list of one. Re upping with extending, keeping Bobby
(52:15):
Slok, giving him a rakuilding wasHonestly, tell me, it's not the
most important thing they did. Theycould have resigned a bunch of players and
not gone out and gotten anybody whoresigned Devin Singletary, give a contract to
John Gernard, keep Malik Collins here, don't move him, find a new
deal for Sheldon Rankins, barely makeany changes at all, and keeping your
(52:36):
running back, I mean, let'sjust take that. I'm just saying it
should not be overlooked. It shouldnot be understated, and I hope we
all find it fun for the nexteight months. Yeah, because he is
definitely gone after this year. Ifthey do anything close to what they accomplish,
not going to go badly. He'snot gonna stop. Look at Ben
(52:58):
Johnson, for instance, super hotboy. Is he hot? He is
the hottest of hot. And thenhe went back to Detroit. And then
what did he do? Stayed hot, maybe got even more hot, like
hotter would be more hot, andthen he went back again like that's unheard
of, right, But he knewplaying or running that offense with Goff,
(53:20):
with their talent, even some ofit relatively new pine everything getting Jamiir Gibbs,
and he just he went back becausehe was completely unconcerned about, well,
the shine's gonna come off, I'mnot gonna be as hot wrong,
And he wasn't. He was completelyconfident in it. In that we heard
some ridiculous stories about what he andhis camp were demanding, and ultimately he
(53:45):
stayed there. I don't think Slow'spersonality suggests any of those things. And
maybe he comes back again, buthe's completely unconcerned about Man, I really
should have taken that offer. Ireally should have tried harder to go get
a head coach job, because nowI don't think I'm gonna get any calls.
Nobody's gonna be talking to my agent. He knows that's not gonna happen.
Plus how many times do you getand it's not even a greener pastures
(54:07):
thing. It just could be justmore money, is what it really comes
down to. But you go toa situation that can't possibly be better even
with you coming to it. Imean, sometimes that happens. More often
than not. You're taking over fora team that isn't good. More often
than not, you're taking over fora team that is completely uncertain about their
quarterback of the future. Might bethey're gonna be so much gooder this year.
(54:30):
The thing it's not. It's notalways that way. For instance,
Jim Harbaugh is in a situation wherehe gets to take over a team with
Justin Herbert, right, but theyalso weren't good right right. So there
are usually a team that's really goodis not looking for a new head coach
doesn't mean they're an awful position movingforward. I mean, you're you've taken
(54:50):
over the Carolina Panthers. You you'vegot the Yeah, the number one pick
from the twenty twenty three draft, you should be all said Dave knallis offensive
guru. They are set moving forward. You can't say no to that job.
Yeah you can, he did not. You can when the when the
quarterback's a midget. So the practiceitself, I'll gets some into that a
little bit as we continue a fewmore things to hear from them, be
(55:14):
a little bit of what we havecoming next, which is say what here
our signature segment on a Tuesday editionof The A Team. Before we get
there, let's go ahead and helpyou say goodbye to joint pain, bad
hips, bad shoulders, neck pain, discomfort. If you will, well,
if it's joint pain, you meanto make the phone call to QC
Kinetics to say goodbye to joint painbecause regenerative medicine is where it's at and
(55:37):
nobody does it better. It's cuttingedge technology. They're the nation's leader,
and you can find them right herein and around the Houston area at one
of their four Houston area locations.I told you to make that call.
You're gonna get set up with afree consultation seven one three nine to one
three fifty two eighty five for QCKinetics. Whether you're up in the Woodlands,
in the heights, down in Sugarland, or maybe over and up on
(55:58):
the northwest side in Ipris, they'vegot you covered. That's the newest clinic
by the way. But no matterwhat, you're going to get the same
thing, that amazing regenerative medicine thatwex was talking about, and of course
getting your life back literally because notonly are you pain free, but it's
lasting pain relief and you didn't haveto go under the knife for surgery.
You're not dealing with downtime and you'renot dealing with addictive pain medications. QC
(56:22):
Kinetics seven one three nine one threefifty two eighty five seven one three nine
one three fifty two eighty five.Back to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler.
The eighty said what what A whatB What are you talking about? MANA
(56:45):
what? Double? Again? Yousay what one moment every now and a
mainly Tuesdays, at this time wedelve into the world of sports, and
(57:05):
sometimes outside of the world of sportsto ask the question, say what So
yesterday spent a little bit of theFootball at five portion of the show just
kind of going through some of whathappened for some other teams first day of
media avails during OTAs I kind ofmade life hard for Dave Canalis. I
said, we probably aren't gonna havea lot of Bryce Young talk in year
(57:27):
two because I think we already knowthe answer, And even though though we
linked Bryce and CJ, I don'tthink we're doing much comparing. But he
had talked about how accurate and awesomeit's been to work with Bryce. He's
so accurate on the short, medium, the deep routes that we can just
look at other things and focus onother things. Schi I went to the
numbers and kind of disputed that simplefact. So today there were a few
(57:49):
more teams that made some of theirplayers available after they got together for the
first time. We'll bring it backto somebody that I think most people like
here in Houston. They certainly should, and I certainly do. Anthony Weaver
spent time with the Texans as aplayer, spent time with the Texans as
a coach defensive coordinator role, somethinghe did here and now has done elsewhere,
and is currently the brand new defensivecoordinator for the Miami Dolphins. Javon
(58:15):
Holland one of the players that willbe awesome. I think under Weaver has
been awesome under previous dcs. Theirprevious DC was Vic Fanjo's pretty well regarded
as a successful defensive football coach. Some of the things that Holland said today,
though, might speak to a differentpart of Vic Fangio's daily routine.
(58:37):
I guess he said it's a completeone point eighty having Anthony Weaver there versus
Vic Fangio. He raved about howhe relates to players. We know that's
certainly the case. Weaver still isn'tthat far removed from being an NFL player,
and I thought he related exceptionally wellwith the players here when he was
here. Davian Clowney and JJ Wattwere among the players on his defensive line
(58:58):
that he was working with and ravingabout. And the other part of what
Holland said probably slides more into thesay what portion of our day and that's
why we're here. After raving aboutWeaver and how he relates to players,
he was asked what the difference iswith Weaver, to which he said,
it's the fact that he's a goodperson that makes a difference. Was it
(59:21):
clear that he meant as opposed toVic, who isn't a good person?
Or was he really saying as acoach the fact that he's a good person
that makes a difference to players,That makes a difference when you're listening to
him and believing in what he saysand things like that. Either way,
it definitely sounds less than flattering aboutVic. But I'm not sure that it
(59:46):
was meant to sound as awful asit looks in print. Um, yeah,
yeah, I would tend to agreewith that. I don't think Vic
and Vic, like Anthony, wasa defensive coach and coordinator here in Houston
a long time ago. He's hada less than successful or underwhelming head coaching
(01:00:07):
career, but as a defensive coordinatoreverywhere he goes and was like, man,
that's what a great deal it wasthat they brought VICI in. This
is gonna be great. He's gonnarun a great defense, and pretty much
every time he has, I hadn'theard anything about him here being a bad
person. He might not have beenthe most happy, go lucky, gregarious,
smiley coach around. Uch, itmeans absolutely nothing, You're right,
(01:00:29):
I mean, look at Bell Belichick, right, it's a total non factor,
and what we see isn't always whatthey see, by the way,
that on that exact point when itcomes to any coach, but especially head
coaches, all you need to doright now in the NFL is look at
essentially the last two head coaches ofa Super Bowl winning team, or not
(01:00:52):
even that. Let's let's go backto like when Belichick won his last one,
and then Andy Reid, who's theother most dominant coach of late.
Those are two polar opposite personalities couldnot be more And I think all of
the players, as far as Iknow, most of if not all,
the players that have ever played forAndy Reid just love the guy. Which
(01:01:15):
would you call the last three SuperBowl winners players coaches? Likable guys Andy
Reid. The last couple before himRams Sean McVay and before him Brady and
the Bucks one with Bruce Arians.Bruce Arians is a tough one. He
(01:01:37):
seems like a real hard coach, but at the same time being r liked
by his players. But I couldsee him, I mean him and Brady
got into it. That was partof the reason we see Now you can
flip it around and say, yeah, well, he and Bill O'Brien got
into it, so it must bea Brady thing. Well, but if
I'm taking one, it's gonna beTom Brady. Yeah. These these are
(01:01:58):
the last handful of Super Bowl winningcoaches spellchicks in there for all the ones
that he won, but before arians, the last coach to win that wasn't
one of the ones we mentioned isDoug Peterson. Huge players coach, huge
fan of our players are big fansof his, you know, the biggest
players coach that we know, hewon the Super Bowl before that. The
(01:02:19):
only coach I haven't named yet goingback to twenty sixteen, Garry Kubiak.
Is there a bigger players coach onin the NFL? I mean, it's
unreal. So for the most part, I think maybe we're losing sight of
what that term might actually mean. And there are even some Patriots, not
a lot, some Patriots that mightrefer to Bill as a players coach only
if they're looking at it from mostlythe number one stamp. Yeah we want
(01:02:43):
to win. Yeah, he's aplayers coach. He helps us win.
If the quarterback is Tom, theyprobably wouldn't say that. So, yeah,
we're gonna hear some things from playersabout you know new players, new
coaches, specifically head coaches, butin this case, a defensive coordinator change
for the Dolphins a little bit.Probably maybe it was time for a change,
(01:03:04):
but it definitely seemed that it wasmore scapegoaty than anything else. They
had injuries on defense or else theywould have been unbelievable. I think he
had the talent. I thought vicFandred did a great job with it.
I think there's a lot of pressureon Anthony Weaver to get them to that
level. The one other thing thatHolland said that I think is important to
the landscape of quarterbacks. He wantsa contract extension, but readily acknowledged I'm
(01:03:25):
probably on the back burner until Tuagets done. Talked about Trevor Lawrence's deal
likely happening before the end of camp. Are the beginning of training camp,
I would say, or maybe thebeginning of the season Tua's in the very
same ballpark. Is there's a realpossibility that these are the next two qbs
that are gonna get massive, massivedollars, And I'm not sure that either
(01:03:49):
team's going to be super excited aboutit in two or three years. Two
and who else Trevor Lawrence because Ialways go back to Dak too. Well,
Dak's been paid. I'm talking aboutguys that are getting set to be
paid for the first time. Whydid I Yeah, that's true the first
time. But why do I feellike though while they're still under club control
for however long you want? Fiveyears is a first round pick plus two
(01:04:10):
franchise years. Right, If Lawrencenever gets a contract extension from the Jags,
they've got him for four more years. Happy or not, but they
can. And the same thing isfor Tua with three more years. How
uh, what year is this forDak? You wouldn't believe it. Give
it a guess. It seems likeit's not that long, but in reality,
eleven, Well that's too much.Well I thought I thought fourteen or
(01:04:32):
fifteen might have been his first year. Sixteen was his first year. This
is year nine. I was offby. I knew it was about it.
I was in. It was inthe neighborhood of a decade. I
knew it was that led the NFL. And touchdown passes just last year,
which is more important than passing yards. Yeah it is. You can put
points on the board with the tds. I mean, how else are you
(01:04:53):
gonna win twelve games for the thirdconsecutive year in the regular season exactly,
and losing the first round each time. Uh, they advanced, they have
won a game? Which one?Was it? Not last year but the
year before? Remember when the Packersbeat them last year in their first game?
No, I know that, butwho would they beat? Come on,
Ago, I always always make youguess. Yeah, but I'm not
gonna do it. So they lostbrilliantly impressively to the Niners each of the
(01:05:18):
two years prior to last year.I remember, so getting to it was
a remagine the mid nineties. No, No, it wasn't because those were
competitive. I mean, they gotTorch, didn't they They beat the Come
on, I know you can guess. This was on the road. There's
a pirate ship. Tampa. Thegreatest quarterback ever was on the other team.
(01:05:42):
Yes, Tampa really was Brady's lastsoundly beat them, dominated them.
That was Brady the last game.I had forgotten about that. Maybe I
blocked it out. I wouldn't sayhe went out on top, but now
I have to since he had theroast. That's going out on top.
Yeah, Well, now he's paidand going to speak on Fox about things
(01:06:03):
very important Cowboys and Browns him acouple of years ago. Yeah, he
knows, he knows what a winnerlooks like. And that ain't it.
Jerry's gonna be. That's gonna behis lasting legacy. Could never get back
to the big Dance, all right, We will keep it right here when
we come back to give away sometickets. You guys know who you want
(01:06:26):
to go see. We've been tellingyou about it all week. You're gonna
need to have been listening, though, because we'll tell you about something that
we spoke about on the show, and you're gonna have to know that answer
and call in and tell Dan whenwe come back for some some mix a
lot tickets. Right now, though, I want to tell you about well
high internet speed and reliable connections andwhy you need both of those as well
as power for all your devices inyour home. Now. You need all
(01:06:48):
of those things. But there's onlyone place that can provide all of those
things, and that is Exfinity withwall to wall Wi Fi from Inxfinity.
You know, last night I wasa little mobile watching that Astros debacle.
It was great for a while there. Matter of fact, if you're superstitious,
maybe you want to follow me downthis scenario. When Junior and I
(01:07:08):
were sitting at the table kind offinishing up dinner and watching the game on
the TV in there, well, things were going well. Once the night
went rogue, like fromber, Istarted watching on my phone in different rooms.
That's when the comeback by the Angelstarted happening. Not great. Maybe
I'll just stay on one spot tonight. I don't know. It's a baseball
thing. It's superstition, you guysget it. But the point is I
(01:07:29):
took that phone in any room inour house, and it's a one story
that spreads out and I could gointo any room and that signal was going
to be strong to watch that gameon my phone. I do it all
the time. Got to multitask somenights when I'm the one getting him to
sleep, got to have the gameon and keep an eye on that.
I do that all the time. That's probably the best example I can give
you, guys of having that fastspeed and reliable connection in every single room
(01:07:50):
courtesy of wall to wall Wi Fifrom Infinity for that reliable connection throughout your
home. And now through June twentyfirst Astro, those fans are going to
be able to get started with gigspeedInternet for twenty five bucks a month for
two years with no annual contract andfree Wi Fi equipment included when you add
unlimited mobile. Go to exfinity dotcom the website, call their number one
(01:08:12):
eight hundred Inxfinity, or you canvisit a store in person. Today.
Infinity proud sponsor of your Houston astrosHey as coach Udoka here every Rockets game
on Sports Talk seven ninety and onthe iHeartRadio app Home of your Rockets.
So congrats to James. Knew thatI was talking about Titus Howard earlier,
(01:08:33):
and I can't speak specifically to toomany of the other players that were not
seen on the field. And honestly, in my notebook that I usually send
out, did you walk out today? Yeah, walking out with WEX.
I missed it. We'll get tothat in a minute. But in the
notebook there's three sections that will beat the top of every page. New
(01:08:55):
day scene not seen side field becausethere's different to describe players that didn't practice.
Were they there and didn't practice, what were they seen? Or were
they working on the side field? There wasn't anybody working on the size of
the Shawn Category called back when thatwas happening there. Well, the thing
(01:09:15):
is seen, he did practice,if he was there, he did practice,
but not in the way a numberone quarterback would practice at all.
In hindsight, what was weird orthat or covid because like it was so
it was such a bizarre thing. Then he was gone, and you've seen
recently and I think even Adam Schefterdid this. The trade is finished.
(01:09:35):
It's complete now. It was anabsolute robbery by the Texans and anybody that
says anything otherwise, Deshaun has towin like four super Bowls for that to
go back in the Browns favor. It's a little bit like the MVP is
basically a quarterback award. The valueof the quarterback on your roster is so
(01:09:56):
out of control. High Cleveland waswilling to pay it, and or the
particular person they were acquiring willing todo it because it means that much.
I was just happened to be lookingat the MVP awards because I saw another
set of odds where c. J. Stroud is in the top four and
the last time you remember, thelast time a quarterback was not the winner
of the MVP Award. Uh geezit's it went to a Houstonian. It
(01:10:24):
did? It did in twenty twelve. Wait a second non quarterback Houstonian.
So not JJ. I was aboutto say, that's what threw me off,
because twenty twelve, JJ, I'mthinking about quarterbacks. Yes, the
last non quarterback to win the award. I don't know. Adrian Peterson.
(01:10:48):
Wow, he's not really a Houstonian. Well, he lives in Houston.
He's okay, that's I guess that'sfair. Or a Tombalian. I mean
we try to engulf all of them. I mean people that spread out,
people live out the South bel Airfor crying out loud is its own city.
But I don't say, oh no, he's not from Houston. He's
(01:11:09):
for you know, people that arethings, which is farther up. I
do people say they're from Houston.I'm being ridiculous. I think the Woodlands,
Magnolia, Conroe, they're they're notHouston. That's where they are.
What I just said, So that'sfair too, But I'm going to say
it for purposes of what about Katie. Well, see, I think Katie's
(01:11:29):
it feels so much closer than everyplace we just mentioned. Pairland's closer than
that, and yet it's out there, right. But I think of Parentland
like when all of this is basedon high school sports, right, like
if Pearland wins the state title andwhatever, well Houston just want a state
title. But that's Paralleland proper, you know, like Parland Town Center,
Shadow Creek right there at the endof two eighty eight. The reason that
(01:11:51):
you think it's closer than those othertwo when it really probably isn't is because
it's so flat. You can seedowntown the minute you get on the freeway.
When any of those schools Katie Magnolia, when they win a baseball state
title as state title, yeah,Houston just won a title. Tally it
up for the age clearly, notbel air though, that's like that's well,
(01:12:13):
they would have to win the title. You know. It's trying to
be nice to everybody. Anybody couldwin one. That's been a while.
When's the last Houston area team todo it? Was it? This is
every We didn't limit the sports.Houston wins its state title in something every
year? Do they? In oneof the UIL sports? Absolutely? I
thought Dallas football, baseball, basketball, golf, tennis. Every year Houston
(01:12:36):
wins at least one boys tennis, girls tennis. I mean there's plenty out
there. The name a better Houstonarea high school coach cameo than Gary Joseph
in Borat Can't. I'm Gary Joseph, and I really enjoyed being that movie.
Can't do. Oh on what he'sup to these days? That guy
had a factory. Great guy too, really really nice guy. All Right,
(01:12:58):
we will get back to it heretill Astro's conversations. As a matter
of fact, when we return hereon the eighteen Better than an Eighties movie
reboots, You're our eighteen returns nowkeeping out Free Mohawks. Back to Adam
Clinton, p Adam Wexler, FineSports Talk seven ninety So it was mentioned
by somebody here we'd be jumping backinto Astro's discussion. Football at five comes
(01:13:21):
your way at five o'clock in caseyou missed, it hadn't happened yet,
so you haven't. That's a fivefifteen later this afternoon, and of course
at six o'clock we will deliver youthe Astros on Deck show. Well,
we won't be as a station asyour home for the Astros a collective we
but more specifically because he emphasizes itevery single time. It will not be
(01:13:44):
either member of the A team, but rather the hard working. Some would
say underpaid, and by some Imean him Matt tom He has said that
before. Well he clearly acts likeit, so underpaid by default, the
guy who's walking on cat coins daily. Look at all the jobs you have
to be on a bed of money? Yeah, nobody, but he works
(01:14:04):
hard. Nobody feels no, hedoes. He entertains me too much,
as I hate to admit it.Now you will have Yeah, he that's
Matt Thomas Ross either will have theAstros on deck show this evening and that
leads you into tonight's ball game withfromber Valdez on the Mountain tonight. Nope,
that was the last night. I'mlike, what are you doing?
Christian Xavier on the mountain tonight forthe Astros, Griffin Canning on the mound
(01:14:27):
for the Opposition, and the continuingwhen is he coming back? Saga of
Jose Abreu heard from Dana Brown earlierthis week, and we'll hear from him
again tomorrow at nine thirty am whenhe joins the Sean Salisbury Show. Heard
from Joe A. Spotty yesterday abouta potential return for a bray You played
baseball today, as he has donefor the last four days, including today,
(01:14:49):
for the Florida Complex League Houston Astros. It's customary spot in the order,
batting leadoff, saw five trips tothe after he struck out in his
first ab he got three consecutive singles, and he was hit by a pitch
in his final lip back. Butdon't worry, he was able to finish
the game at first base, sohe went three for four today. You
(01:15:11):
add that to his three for fourteenin the three previous games, that makes
him a combined six four eighteen duringhis four game stint with the Florida Complex
League Astros. It's rookie league. It's likely a handful of prospects who are
just getting their feet wet, andthen a host of other players who are
really young and may or may nothave much of a future in Major League
(01:15:33):
baseball, and the very rare occasiona player with tremendous Major League Baseball accomplishments
in JOSEA. Braid, who's makingmore than every team in the league combined.
So my guess is there's a betterthan average spread for the crew after
each of these games. How doesthat work though? Does he have to
(01:15:54):
get tell as a clubby and say, hey, do this for the guys,
whatever the case may be. Doeshe buy them new equipment in a
bus like Jordan used to do.I mean some of them might all of
a sudden be catching fly balls inFlorida with a special jose Abrew model glove.
Who knows? Does he get customjose a bray you bats to all
(01:16:15):
of them and they go, whatam I supposed to do with any it's
left in these? Ground out? That nice? So those are the numbers,
and again without seeing it, there'snot much to it. The team
gets reports from Bagwell and others who'vehad eyes on him and have had a
chance to talk. Joe Spot mentionedthat he and Dana had talked to Jeff
Bagwell right before the game. Bagwellis out there and has been out there
in Florida with him. Joe joinedThe Matt Thomas Show, The hard Working
(01:16:39):
Matt Thomas Show earlier today his Tuesdayvisits. You can always catch right there
on The Matt Thomas Show. Soon the subject of a bray you he
was talking specifically in this instance aboutthe swing, which was obviously problematic here
for the first month of the season, not getting around on a lot of
pitches, a lot of balls hiton the ground, a lot of balls
(01:17:00):
hit towards first base, if hitat all, including not a lot of
hard contact, not a lot ofdeep fly balls, not a lot of
extra base power, not a lotof anything that was resembling a hitter you'd
want in the lineup every day.So this is what Joe spot has said
earlier today here on Sports Talk sevenninety regarding Jose Bray you and his latest
looking swing. So, you know, he he played yesterday, He had
(01:17:23):
five of bats played from first base. He hit a double. Actually,
you know, when you look athis overall swing, that the changes he's
made, I think he's in amuch better better place when he comes to
be able to recognize pitches, seepitches and put an a swing off right.
You know, he's a much cleanerswing and and that's important. Also,
(01:17:45):
he's he's his mindset like he isin a much better place. He's
been around his family. You know, he's been controlling the wordload, uh,
you know, being able to concentrateand take his time in between reps,
in between workouts. We we havea really good staff around him to
support him down in West Palm.So I think we've done some really good
(01:18:09):
things to put him in a betterplace. And our conversations have been great.
You know, he sounds up feathe sounds like he's ready to go,
and we, you know, weare excited to have him back.
We really need to see the Hotelbro that we got, you know,
late last year and in the postseason. So you know, we don't
have to act like he's excited. He flat out said he's excited to get
(01:18:30):
Obray back. And you see whathe did there at the very end,
just sliding that in there. Yeah, the Jose of Brew you saw in
twenty twenty four, forget that. We're going to see the Jose Brew we
saw late last year and on intothe postseason. Why not just last year?
I mean Joe just no, onlyjust specific to late last year,
well how late like the last oneseries, the first postseason series uniform.
(01:18:54):
So it's a small little window,it's a little come on sorry half twenty
just to cover it. He alsodiscussed what might be next for Josebray,
what might benefit to Jose and hisquest to rejoin the team. So we
still having those discussions that I thinkit will be benefitial for him to do
(01:19:15):
that, you know, but heis getting he is getting a ton of
a bat you know, down downin west On. We would like to
get him, you know, ahigher level to get him to play.
But just that conversation that we continueto have with him, that I hope,
even though it was nothing definitive, should definitively put an end to He's
playing on Friday for the Astros, right, I don't know. I hope
(01:19:38):
so, like, I know, play soon. Well, he played today
today's Tuesday, and he's in Floridatoday today's Tuesday. If he's going to
play in sugar Land, for instance, the highest level of competition, the
option is there. Sugar Land beginstheir six game homestand against round Rock today
(01:19:58):
and they will be home through theWorld weekend. Is don't you have to
give him at bats against something otherthan rookie league complex league players before you
put him in there against major leaguepitchers. But that's the thing that I've
been saying since everybody, Right,it became a conversation. What in the
last forty eight hours plus, Yeah, the timeline we thought was nowhere near
(01:20:21):
being complete, whoa, I rushedviolently into. This is basically complete.
He's playing now like it's just Imean, I think Gordy was saying it
the other day. I was listeninga week in Corpus Christy and then a
week in sugar Land, and thenmaybe, like I just I can't in
(01:20:43):
good faith listen to him say, well his swing looks better. What why?
Oh, he's mentally he's in abetter place. I bet he is.
He's in Florida, playing golf everyday. Family. I would be
too, like, come on,man, this is a league. Okay,
fine, but it's not a crunchtime environment. It's not a grinder.
(01:21:05):
It's just as it is as casualas it can possibly be at this
level. And by this level,I just mean even having some sort of
semblance of being a major league baseballplayer, because right now, where he
is, the only thing that makeshim that is that fat ass contract we
just started talking about he was usingon all of his teammates and the facilities
(01:21:28):
and all that. That's the onlything right now to me that makes Jose
abra you a major league baseball player, because where is he right now?
He's not in Double A, He'snot Triple A. He's not in Single
A. He's at the factory. That's what they call it, basically,
the Florida Factory for the Astros. What did you call it again, the
Florida Complex League. Yeah, theFlorida Factory for the Astros is what I
(01:21:49):
heard. The FFFA. There yougo. It's not to be confused with
the FFA. There's three or theFAA Association. Yeah, I think so
okay, great, that's neat.I think administration. It didn't sound right.
Yeah, you're right, Dan,thanks for picking us up on that.
(01:22:11):
Yeah. I'm not a smart person. I'm not a smart man.
I just I don't know. Idon't put it on the books. Jose
Brew against the A's this weekend nothappening. When hang on, don't turn
your mic off yet. I'm notdone with you. When is he playing
for Houston? Yeah? Maybe thefollowing weekend because he will have done what
(01:22:34):
in the interim, It doesn't matter. He's coming back. He could go
four games with the sugar Land oversix days, five games, whatever it
is, and if he doesn't lookgood, then they'll just bring him up
in Hope. And if it looksgreat, then they'll bring him up in
hope. The most important question ofall how long are we doing this charade
until he's cut? It depends onhis performance. Son, Okay, how
(01:22:55):
long are we doing this charade untilhe's cut? June July All Star Break,
All Star Break. Oh, that'sa long time. They could be
out of it by then with allthose automatic albums. That's too long.
It is June nineteenth. June nineteenth, cut day for Jose Abrae. You
heard it here first, all right, five o'clock hour Football at five coming
up next. Two lifelong Houston sportsskies named Adam Talking Your Team series Adam
(01:23:26):
Clinton and Adam Wexler, or theA Team A Why you read at fuscial
Football's five o'clock some five o'clock football? Professional football in America is a special
(01:23:48):
game, so special that here onthe A Team each and every day all
year long, it's football at five. Wex A C and Dan here with
you. And that is the subjectwe hit on here each day at this
time. Texans on the field forOTAs most of the rest of the NFL
doing the same. Cranked out thenotebook for today's session. A little bit
(01:24:08):
over an hour on the field forthe Texans they were utilizing field three and
field two for the most part today, and then a couple of players and
the head coach available back inside thefacilities at NRG Stadium afterwards. A couple
of things from the notebook I haven'tgotten into yet. It was specifically taking
a look at them of the newcomersand maybe the first kind of things that
(01:24:30):
come to mind when you see themout there with their position group or in
a seven on seven setting or runningdrills. And I mentioned this in the
walking out with Wex video that acwas asking about earlier, and find that
on my social media Jeff Acuda. He's wearing number eleven. He's one of
the two former first round cornerbacks thatare now with their third team that the
(01:24:53):
Texans signed this offseason. That's right, two recent top picks from somebody else's
team are now already on their thirdteam and hoping to get a foothold here
in Houston. I would think heis running with the best chance to be
the starter opposite of Derek Stingley Junior, though some of the groupings we saw
today might suggest otherwise a little bitearly to say. What we saw out
(01:25:16):
there was who's technically running first? And second and or third team, but
thing you notice about him, especiallywhen the group was altogether and maybe getting
a word in from the coaches orbefore they started a drill. And you
know this maybe from looking at hisbio, but it also stands out when
you're on the field. He's big. He is probably their tallest corner.
Derek Stingley Junior might physically carry moreweight or be a bigger thumper and comparable
(01:25:43):
in size, but acutas height andjust overall size at corner, it does
stand out. Doesn't mean he's betterthan other players. There's plenty of smaller
corners that are good, but itstands out, I think is a group.
I think the Texans corners that arecurrently under contract are actually a little
bit bigger group than they've had inyears past. The athletics there, but
clearly the coverage skills have left himnot being wanted by his first team and
(01:26:04):
similarly not being brought back by hissecond team, So the Texans are giving
him an opportunity here. Dimiko Riancetalked about both of those two players and
call them elite movers, and Ithink that's probably true if you watch them
move on the field and move ina game situation. Yeah, it looks
like they can, but oftentimes someof those movements are in chase. There
(01:26:26):
was one such instance today, AndI know what the people want on social
media, the fans, and theycan't because they're not the people going,
well, I don't. I mean, they want to see it. They
don't really care what it is.They want to see it. I mean,
here's Tank Dell, here's Nico Collinsstanding there stretching. It's super uncompelling,
but there love it. They can'tget more of it. Here's a
rep in seven on sevens. Well, they're trying to make these overwhelming assumptions
(01:26:50):
about some of them, and Ithink it's really really unfair to everybody.
One player in particular, which Isent out today was a deep ball down
the left side or towards the postleft side for John Mechi and in this
instance, he was lined up oppositeJeff Okuda, went inside and basically ran
(01:27:12):
right past him. Might want tonote that there's not any tackling going on.
There's virtually no hitting going on.I mean, they run into each
other, but they're not hitting eachother. And you're also not pressing anybody.
You're not putting your hands on anybody. Everybody's trying to stay upright.
All those things are part of practice. Can you check on somebody's speed chasing
somebody down. Yeah, probably that'samong the few things that's I think an
(01:27:35):
accurate thing. If you see thaton video and you know someone's running past
you and you're not able to catchhim or whatever. The kid, Yeah,
that probably is what happened. Andin this case, I think there
was a little bit of everything, but yeah, he got you know,
John Mechi made an inside move andran down to the post and ran right
past him, or ran to thecorner of the end zone. Excuse me,
and CJ. Stroud loft at apass up oldver Mechi's shoulder. Not
(01:27:56):
his best ball, definitely wobbly. It was windy out there and dark,
and boy did it want to rainbut didn't, and it wasn't quite in
the right spot. But it hitmetch you right in the hands. It
would have been a you know,a Willie Mays type over the shoulder catch,
but he got both hands on itand did not catch it. So
a lot of people were picking apartjust about every part of that. Oh
(01:28:17):
bad throw, oh in coverage, terrible Andy didn't catch it. This is
one comment was this is a reallysad video. It's day one of OTA's
and I know that's but like Isaid, you take all of it with
what you had a lot more positiveresponse to. This is what the people
want to see. This is Strouddropping back Tank Dell right over the middle
(01:28:39):
and run after the catch. Didthe same thing with a Nico Collins.
Collins in one instance being defended byHenderson. So Henderson got that same kind
of a same old Henderson from fromCarolina. We shall see, and I
tend to agree that's probably what theydo have. What's on film is that
exactly. Also got a chance totalk to one of the newcomers I mentioned
in the video as well, aboutAziz al sha Here. He was on
(01:29:01):
the sidelines, happened to be standingright in front of us talking to Joe
Mixon. Joe Mixon's not a smallrunning back by any means. No,
he's not gonna run people over becausehe's two fifty, because he's Dereck Henry,
but he's not a small running back, significantly bigger than Devin Singletary,
per Se and Damian Pierce. Sohe's standing next to Alsha here who is
not tall, but he's got EarlCampbell legs. Al Street hears and that's
(01:29:26):
that's the word I words I usedin the video. They're massive, great
speed, super intelligent player, someonewho coaches quickly fall in love with.
And that's what Demiko had to sayabout al sha Here. So one of
the other players I saw also JacobPhillips and Kaylen Bullock, and you can't
help but notice something very similar aboutboth of them. Jacob Phillips linebacker,
(01:29:48):
long lean and unfortunately has been nothingbut injured with the Browns. There's one
reason why he was not back therefor a fourth season. So the Texans
are hoping that if he stays healthy, and his recent two injuries were pecks
peck injuries, it's not like it'sbad knees or bad legs of any kind.
I think if he somehow managed todo not have a third consecutive year
(01:30:09):
with a peck, torn peck orsomething along the lines that Knox is the
season away. They're hoping he cando something for them. But what stood
out physically about each of them, their legs are so thin. Bullock and
Nick mentioned this in his press conference. He knows he has to get bigger,
stronger, thicker, very thin belowthe waist and similar with Phillips,
(01:30:30):
does not look like he should beplaying linebacker. He looks like he could
be the next great outfield prospect forthe Washington Nationals. Just tall, lean
and looks like you. When hegets those arms extended, it's going to
go right over the fence. APIslinebacker in the NFL, and I think
it's a good player to take achance on. Talk to Alisha here.
First. Wanted to hear you hearfrom Jalen Petrie, who of course is
(01:30:51):
out there number five at one safetyand number twenty at the other safety.
That's now Jimmy ward Is. Jimmy'snumber from last year is being worn by
Stefan Dix. We told you whator let you hear what Tabiko Ryans had
to say about having Tank Dell backon the field. This is what Jayaln
said about that very topic. It'salways good to see Tank back out there.
(01:31:12):
You know, we see the workthat he's put in, all that
he's been through. You know,it's always inspiring to see somebody, you
know, fight back and win becauseyou know he's a true competitor and a
guy that makes our team better. So I'm glad that he's back out there,
and it definitely makes me better, you know, having to go against
him on a day to day basis. That's the other part of Diggs,
Collins and Dell. If these guysare good against them in practice, they'll
(01:31:35):
be ready for anybody they're going upagainst all season long. And there are
a bunch of other teams that mademoves to get better. Just happen to
be watching some of the Titans Otavideo today. As much as we think
they stink and Will Levis can't throwthe football, He'll be throwing to Tyler
Boyd, who's now playing for thesame oc he played for last year.
(01:31:55):
Brian Callahan is now the head coachthere in Tennessee. He'll be throwing to
Calvin Ridley, and we'll be throwingto DeAndre Hopkins and maybe Treylon Burks.
Like that is not a bad groupof receivers by any means. It's a
very very good group of receivers. But I was also talking about Bullock just
a minute ago. So was JalenPetrie. Oh man, he's a dog
like he's when I first seen him, I'm like, bro, it's tall
(01:32:17):
and then like, yeah, likeyou know, for real, he liked
for real, I'm like, bro, it's tall, like taller, like
he looked like a receiver. Butjust being in a room with him,
you could tell how locked in heis, Like he's answering the questions sometimes
before the veterans. So you know, it's good to see a guy to
come in and you know, beconfident in himself and get to work because
(01:32:38):
you know he definitely can help thescene. Listened listed at six three one
ninety and will likely continue playing forthe Texans at safety six' three doesn't
sound as tall as I was,is he seemingly was described me. He
may it's like he was six eight. Jalen Petrie, also a Texan safety
six foot even two hundred pounds.Jimmy Texan safety five eleven one to ninety
(01:33:02):
three. Jalen Petrie said he istall as in way taller than the two
of us. Yeah, he towersover them in that in that regard again,
Jimmy Ward signed a two year deal, so this year is the final
year of his deal unless there's anextension. Jalen Petrie a draft pick two
years ago, so this is yearthree for him second round pick, so
there's no fifth year option, sohe begins the second half of his contract.
(01:33:27):
Bullock makes a lot of sense forthis team moving forward if he proves
to be the talent that I thinkhe is, even though he wasn't a
first or second a round pick forthis team. I'll let you hear from
a few others over the course ofthe afternoon and the rest of the week.
As he's Elsa here. Also talkedtoday about one of the big reasons
why he's here, and that ofcourse, is the head coach gets you
a case of in case you missedit, we come back some items we
(01:33:49):
may have touched on earlier but deservea revisit, or items we've not yet
gotten oneto here today. That's nexthere on the A Team, the eighty
continues US one Sports Talk seven nineties. Time to revisit a few items that
haven't been on the show in awhile. Maybe over the first two hours
(01:34:12):
and change, we hit on ouritems we've not even gotten into at all.
In case you missed it, whatdo we have today? All Right?
So I'm sure the Matt Thomas Showis going to say we're ripping this
from them, but it's still anational news story now. Georgia quarterback Jaden
Rashata, who was initially signed withFlorida last year before deciding to go to
Arizona State, is suing Florida headcoach Billion Napier and a booster over a
(01:34:36):
alleged name, image and likeness deal. He is suing them in federal court
for fraud and other allegations for afailed thirteen point eighty five million dollar deal.
This according to the John Talty oftwenty four to seven sports dot com.
According to the lawsuit, Napier saidthe booster would wire one million dollars
(01:34:57):
if rashatas signed with Florida on NationalSigning Day. Suppose it only got one
hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Well, there's a couple of things here.
First of all, if you claimthat the Matt Thomas Show, led by
Matt Thomas, is going to claimwe're ripping them off, then we might
as well not come in ever againand talk sports. Something happened in sports,
(01:35:20):
and once they talk about it,it's off limits for everybody's Well,
I think according to Matt probably hewould feel that way. I don't think
Ross would feel that way I'm openingthe show tomorrow reasonable and I'm going to
note the off limit topics for theday. They have been discussed by Sean
and Brian, by Stan and Chris, and by Matt and Ross already.
(01:35:40):
So here's what we're left with startingnow at three o'clock. I can't imagine
what we'll get into tomorrow. It'sgonna be fun, a lot of pop
culture. It's gonna be great. It's gonna be a great listen. Secondly,
uh, someone who was mentioned earlierin the show finds a place in
this article. And it's a funreason why I mentioned the last NFL player
to win the MVP that wasn't aquarterback. His name is Adrian Peterson.
(01:36:04):
How does Adrian Peterson find his wayinto this article about Jaden Rashata because he
is one of the many previous notableclients for the attorney representing this young gentleman.
Rusty Harden will be representing this younggentleman consensual, so he's adding to
(01:36:26):
his client roster of athletes. Soare we amazed by what factor in this
case the most? The figure? This is what someone who's never picked up
a college football before being guaranteed nineplus million to commit. That's all it
(01:36:47):
takes to get nine million dollars. Now, is that what we're most amazed
by? Um? Well, Ithink just in general that this is even
a thing, is what I'm amazedby. All this stuff opened up,
and we knew that it would getout of control when a player's really really
good at football and the best universitiesin the country are all wanting them to
(01:37:09):
play there, and all the boostersthat are in these groups, the collectives
all have huge kiddies to pull fromto say, here's what we can offer
you, here's what we can offeryou. Once it reached hundreds of thousand
dollars and the low millions were like, this is out of control to me.
This is the high millions for aplayer who's never played before. This
is what we want. No,it's college athletics to be or is this
(01:37:32):
are we were we that naive tothink it wouldn't be here, or are
we that naive to think it wasn'talready happening. It's just we weren't aware
of it because it wasn't so legal. I don't think it's any of the
Well, I'm sure that people allover the world that all of those categories.
You just numbers, but if youreally were thinking about it, And
most of the people that I'm referringto when I say this are going to
(01:37:54):
be the same ones that people whowanted this to have happened were like,
Ah, you're just being a fuddy. Due it's the ultimate Pandora's box though,
And you can't put the toothpaste backin the tube and you can't put
the genie back in the bottle. But here we are deal with it.
I mean, it's you, youknow, it's it's kind of like you
(01:38:15):
get what you vote for now.I know we didn't vote for this,
but it was a state by statething, and some schools are like,
oh my god, we're gonna fallso far behind. Yeah, and they
knew that. With the push tomake this happen was so like downhill for
forever. It actually wasn't even thatlong. If we do this right,
we should absolutely include a transfer portalwith this. At the same time,
(01:38:36):
let's get this going. What didyou think was gonna happen? So this
figure we're talking about here, Dan, I know it's a one time deal.
He's gonna get paid this amount.Presumably he's gonna play more years of
football, and wherever he plays,if he plays well, if he stays
there or he portals his way elsewhere, some other massive figure is gonna get
there. And we'll call this nineand a half million. I'll give you
(01:38:56):
the figure nine point five million forthe twenty twenty four football season. Let's
say that is less than how manycollege coaches one year salary for twenty twenty
four, roughly probably about five fivefive coaches in America make more than that
next year and a booster, andthe collective wants to give that to a
(01:39:21):
super high school football player. Thisis what it is. This is insanity.
This whole thing is insanity, thoughright, yes it is. But
did you not think it would be? Yeah? I did think it would
be. And this is why Ithink that I don't have any issue at
all with players making money while theuniversity is swimming in money. And at
(01:39:45):
the end of all this, theuniversity is still getting other people to pay
for this. Other people outside theuniversity isn't. When we talk about Jimbo
Fisher, for instance, can theyfire can they do the payout? Dana
Holgers same thing. Well, theanswer is always yes. Why because there's
always more money. This has somany parallels to politics, like, we
(01:40:10):
don't like how this is going onover here not so clean. Well,
no, I'm not even talking aboutthat. I'm talking about from the Lucra
point of here's here's this going onover here. We don't like that the
haves over here are getting as muchas they have because it's at the expense
of the have not seemingly. Sowe're gonna change things radically because that's what
we get because change is better.Change is better than not doing anything.
Well, if you change and itinevitably makes things even worse than they were
(01:40:33):
before, that's politics, it reallyis. It is noteworthy that this is
happening because the results of how itplays out, whether there ends up being
a settlement or whether it ends upactually reaching court, this matters. This
is stuff that will impact future dealsthat get made between players, their representatives,
(01:40:53):
and these collectives. You wanted thingsto be different. I hope you're
happy. What else do we have? All right, good news, So
Matt Thomas Show can steal this.I guess on Thursday they won't be on
tomorrow. What what did you justsay, Well, they're not going to
be on tomorrow? Why not becausethere's Astros baseball, so they're not working.
That's correct. Is Matt Thomas doingthe pre game? No? What
about the post game? Gordy? You just rich us out, guys,
(01:41:19):
but more importantly not Matt Thomas.Okay, good, good, continue?
Sorry, all right? Well,Aaron Rodgers embracing the pressure of a Jets
do or die seeing season, saying, if we don't do what we're capable
of doing, then we're probably allout here. So I'm gonna take it
a different direction. He's forty now, he just had one of the hardest
(01:41:40):
injuries to be able to come backfrom. And let's also factor in that
he's a quarterback that's not necessarily astay back in the pocket and just throw
from their statue type of guy.His elusiveness is what's made him who he
is during his career. So withthat type of pressure out there, should
we expect that maybe this season isthe end of a rog not only in
(01:42:01):
New Jersey but just in the NFL. Well, I'm amazed that you're showing
so much respect to one of theTimberwolf's greatest fans. He was sitting front
row for their some of their triumphs. This postseason. While you're affording a
rod the ballplayer, you're letting himkeep that nickname, and you're calling mister
Rogers a Rodg. I feel likewe've got to differentiate just a little bit.
(01:42:23):
I mean, A rod was theoriginal, so pays a little bit
of respect. I'm gonna say noon this is it. There's more football
for Aaron Rodgers. I think peopledo underestimate how much his mobility. He's
not running for yards, He's Patmahomesing it for for the most part.
He's running for extra time. He'ssliding in the pocket, he's feeling the
pressure and you know, extending thetime he's got to throw, stepping up
(01:42:45):
in the pocket, rolling out latein a possession or after the snap,
whatever it is, he has donethat. If his mobility is that severely
limited, like he's Bernie Costar orsomething, You're probably right it will be
difficult to have multiple future seasons.I think a quarterback trying to overcome this
injury, get past it and playlike he used to is probably something a
(01:43:05):
player like that can do well.It would You couldn't make the argument that
of all the positions in football andNFL football, the least affected by an
achilles would be the quarterback. Imean, think about every single position,
not kicking and all that special comparedto mention who the quarterback is and what
(01:43:25):
they do. Like pocket, we'regoing to be doing the same thing a
little bit shorter time frame, justfrom when it happened. And I know
what Dan's talking about, how he'llget out and run. But I still
look at Aaron. Aaron Rodgers isa traditional pocket quarterback, and not for
the most part, but no,I mean, but that's the thing though,
is more in line with Wex,Like it's not necessarily about his straight
line speed or him using that aspart of it, but it's exactly what
(01:43:46):
Wex said of avoiding the rush, rolling out, doing things like that that
have made him who he is duringhis career. And Mahomes when I was
comparing the two, I don't wantto dismiss the fact he actually does run
for yards, but it's because hescrambles on like eighty percent of his dropbacks.
He's always trying to buy time. He's always finding his way into an
(01:44:06):
open spot. Look how hurt hewas his legs were this past year,
and he was still running with thefootball. He was still creating extra time.
So in that regard, that's wherethey're similar. But Mahomes will run
for two hundred and fifty yards easyin a season and Rogers will run for
twenty three. It's just a littlebit different what they're trying to accomplish with
(01:44:27):
that. I think he'll be fine. I think the Jets are going to
be very good when it comes timefor it in late August early September,
before the opener on Thursday night,I'll be picking the Jets to win the
AFC East. Wow, you're stealingmy pick from last year. That is
what you're doing. You got onelast quickie? Yeah, I guess you
(01:44:47):
know. We can let Ross usethis for non Florida stories on field.
By the way, it's okay tonot go all Matt Thomas Radio today.
It's okay, we don't have to. Well, I like Ross, so
I'll let Ross use this one.But we go outside of sports. Because
a United States Postal worker in Ohiocaught using their postal van to race against
(01:45:08):
a Ford Mustang before being pulled overby local police in Fremont, Ohio for
doing over one hundred miles an hourin a sixty mile an hour zone.
Not sure in terms of what they'refacing in the state, but according to
a local TV station there in Ohio, a fifty dollars fine from the postal
service and a verbal warning issued slowdown And what was the other warning issued?
(01:45:31):
Verbal warning is my favorite part byfar. Yeah, don't do that
ever again in our in one ofour bents. So we're thinking, I'm
thinking one hundred miles an hour? What's the fastest speed you've actually seen a
postal van go? Because normally yousee them in the neighborhood. Now they
got to get from neighborhood to neighborhood, so maybe there's a there's a little
bit of freeway time or some feedor time, like, what's one hundred
(01:45:56):
miles an hour? No, I'mthinking that's that's quite I know, the
engine's probably sizeable. It's a bigvan. There's a lot of cargo to
tow in the back or to carry, so the engine's got to be there.
And a Ford Mustang. Was thisMustang like dying? Was it on
its last legs, was it onits fifth engine? Did it have three
wheels? The part for me isthat the van can actually even go that
(01:46:19):
fast. That's what I mean,like exactly. I mean, that's that
is rather, that's about forty milesfaster per hour than I would think the
van would ever be going. Assomebody that saw, you want to go?
You want to go right now?Me and you all right, Toretto,
here we go. As somebody pointedout, you know, they did
(01:46:39):
bring out the USPS creed the wholesnow rain heat for swift completion. So
I mean, I guess we shouldprobably expect that these vans can zoom around
if they need to in order tobe able to make their rounds and make
their deliveries. What was the postpullover meeting? Like with his boss when
he got back to the USPS office, We're gonna have to ask you to
(01:47:02):
turn in your keys. I thinkthey need more postal workers than they need
less, so it's probably just adon't do that again. Would you do
that work for the post office?Yeah? I like to do get some
side money, side hustle. Yeah, I mean it seems a little I
feel like I talk about it along time, Like when you see the
r Houston area postal workers making theirway through the neighborhood, like I can't
(01:47:27):
be nice enough to them and anddo you need water. Hello, it's
good to see like, well,it is hot. Any delivery service whatsoever
is gonna sort of be like that. Well, now Amazon though, well,
they go to the specific address anddrop off the one package and they
get back in the vehicle. Thepostal worker will park at the end of
the street and walk through the wholestreet front side, backside, and they
(01:47:48):
get back in. Well, theyprobably love the neighborhoods where you have the
one unit of all of the mailboxers. How lazy is this guy? It
works? We got yeah, allright, we will keep it going here
on the A Team Sports Talk sevento ninety as we continue on a Tuesday
edition of the program fred V hereif you listen to every game on any
(01:48:11):
device with our free iHeartRadio apping SportsTalk seven night, home of your Rockets.
Appreciate everybody being with us all week, every week, each and every
weekday afternoon right here on the ATeam three to six, wext D and
AC here with you this afternoon lastper usual, I was lying during the
break, I do want to goover the sets plural. We'll get to
that, okay. Did want torevisit one thing from earlier in the show
(01:48:34):
and from a topic of conversation.I think it's been making the rounds here
and should be for what took placein last night's Astros game where the fifth
inning fell apart, and apparently partof the falling apart was the starting pitcher
deciding to deviate from the game planthat the people who put it together Astros
pitching coaches and staff, Astros playersand catchers and pitchers who all get together
(01:48:58):
before the game decide this is thebest way to this lineup, and for
four innings it seemed like it wasworking pretty well considering what Fromber had in
his arsenal and was able to execute. Had a five run lead into that
fifth inning and a lot of threerun homer, then a visit from the
pitching coach, Josh Miller after twomore batters reached, followed that visit with
another three run homer, followed thatthree run homer with a solo homer.
(01:49:21):
All of a sudden, there sixto one lead was an eight six deficit.
Fromber acknowledged he deviated from the gameplan. Yainer said he deviated from
the game plan. Joe Spot saidhe deviated from the game plan. So
earlier in the show, we referencedBull Durham in this manner. Fastball God
(01:49:44):
Sucker teed off in that like youknew I was gonna throw a fastball.
He didn't know. I told himclearly, he told him. Crash took
it upon himself, the veteran playerto the very young player. I'm gonna
show you whose boss and teach youa lesson here, and hopefully it'll help
the team in the process. WhatI say our game plan is the way
we need to attack these hitters. The Astrol situation was actually the opposite.
(01:50:09):
You had the young catcher trying toget what he needed out of the veteran
pitcher, even with the dynamics beingdifferent. Should Yiner have done what Crash
Davis did as Fromber was shaking himoff. Should he have just basically either
all right, fine, go ahead, pitch what you want to pitch and
(01:50:30):
then I'll show you. Or shouldhe have gotten up out of his stance
and made mound visit after mound visituntil Fromber stopped trying to go rogue.
So I'm taking it from a comicalpoint and actually trying to make it serious.
Well, here's the thing, andI don't think this is a small
thing. Yiner's in a tough spotbecause he's already the guy that is replacing
(01:50:55):
the guy that so many of theserotations got. Yeah. Yeah, I
mean you can say what you aboutcatching legend. Yeah, and you can
say what you want about his performanceat the plate, and we all did
last year and it was just abarrel of laughs talking about it. Every
He had just re signed Martine andhe replicated what he was doing for the
White Sox. The Astros would haveall seven of his hits. Oh,
that's brutal. But like, ifyou're yainer Diez, you have to still,
(01:51:23):
even at this point in a sense, know your place on this roster.
Yes, you are the starting catcher, You're the everyday catcher. Vic
Karattini is not gonna start nearly asmany games as you are. You're a
superior hitter to him. You are, You have all the promise in the
world, all that kind of stufffromer Valdez was the guy on the mound
(01:51:45):
when the Astros clinched their second WorldSeries championship. He was the guy that
got them to the sixth inning thathad or I guess he gave he made
way to the a bray. Youwas it Hector, then a bray You
then Presley I think seven eight nine. But he the guy, you know,
and a lot of people I thinkstill forget that that he was the
guy. In fact, a lotof these guys have had problems this year.
We're out there for that game,Brian a brave Ryan, Presley,
(01:52:10):
Montero had a great season. Butpoint of all that is he's probably if
not hesitant, you can't just likeI don't know, there's a point where
you can be boisterous or like Jeff, like gud Well. Justin Berlander,
for example, gets traded to theAstros and weeks later is screaming at them
(01:52:30):
in the Dodgers Stadium, dugout, get your heads out, or we're gonna
go down O two in this worldseries like and I even think this year,
with him being unavailable to pitch earlywas watching it all unfold in the
background, and as soon as hecame back to the roster and got out
there, even though he wasn't superimmediately successful, but giving them an opportunity
to win, then he got morevocal, like Justin's resume versus Shiners.
(01:52:54):
So turn it around into the actualsituation again and back to the bull Durham.
If that catcher is crash David,as in, if Martin was behind
the plate last night and the fifthinning is starting to happen and he's been
shaken off and the results have startedto play that way, Oh he's walking
out there. What what happens? He would have said something he was said,
he would have called the pitch andgo what would he have He would
(01:53:15):
have done something differently. He wouldhave stopped it, like we think a
J. Hinch should have stopped it, so to speak, as if he
could have well, that's what Imean in this instant, a good bad
spot. Or would fromber not havethought to take matters into his own hands
because Martin was behind the plate, because the game plan that he helped put
together was one he would not wantto stray from. But the one that
(01:53:38):
he and Jiner and Victor and JoshMiller and Coach Murphy and everybody else put
together was one he felt compelled asa veteran, as I know my stuff,
as I'm confident in my play andpitches that I'm going to go rogue.
I mean, look how well itwas working until he decided against it.
Right, They didn't say he deviatedfrom the game plan in the first
four innings when he allowed just theone run and kept the ball down and
(01:53:59):
got ground balls and wasn't in nearlyas much trouble. I mean, he's
had some oof moments, but thatmight be the worst. I mean,
I'm the feist. I mean,ALCS is bigger stage his postseason, recent
postseason definitely the Uvius. But thatwas this is just really that was a
slow burn compared to this. Thiswas like you're up six to one,
You're dead. That's how it went. I mean, was that fast?
(01:54:23):
True? But every game was likethat for fromber in twenty twenty three in
the postseason, bad start against Minnesota, two bad starts against Texas, and
his last start I'm calling bad.I mean, at least he only gave
up three runs in five innings. It wasn't horrific, it wasn't overcomeable,
but it certainly wasn't good and notwhat he had been his whole postseason career.
(01:54:45):
Basically before that film. He evenhas a mediocre game once during the
ALCS. They there's so many thingsthey should have won that seriously, right,
So yeah, honestly, I dothink it would have been different.
It's not any reason to revisit youroffseason plans at catcher. But yeah,
I probably would have on a littlebit differently if there's gonna be fine him
it's five. That's that's the firsttime you even entertained that topic. It's
(01:55:08):
it's you're talking about what bray younot being high up on the list of
issues. Yiner's like, no,he's not even on the list. It's
a blip. He's like out inspace somewhere. All right, one more
segments to go, Wait till hesomebody else like Javier is on the mound.
And as in a playful homage toour guy, he'd starts shaking off
Jiner and then eventually says, I'mjust kidding, did y'all did Javier stop
(01:55:30):
drinking coffee? He stopped spilling coffee. I think he still drinks it.
He changed his pants when he didthat, right, they were white,
and then they weren't whites because therewas a big, huge coffee stand on
them. I thought he changed himfor some reason. I know, well,
there was no time I don't thinkfrom when he spilled them to immediately
change them. Like Romel mentioned theother day, I sweat a lot I
had to change my jersey three timesnormally just between games or during games.
(01:55:54):
Oh look, cheese. Boco isexpected to start the day he is eligible
per Joe Spotty, which today Sunday, the twenty six. Yeah, good
luck with that, Oakland, allright, QC Kinetics, good luck with
getting rid of your joint pain relief. If you don't go to QZ kinetics,
Yeah, because that's the case, then you're gonna go under the knife
(01:56:15):
for surgery and have downtime and addictivepain medications involved. That doesn't sound like
a very good way to go,you know it does, though, amazing
regenerative medicine treatments which QC Kinetics canbring to you when you call them at
seven one three nine one three fiftytwo eighty five. And doing this for
a long long time for a lotof different people, and they've been changing
(01:56:36):
their lives. It's not hyperbole tosay that you're changing your life for the
better when you're getting rid of jointpain. It doesn't allow you to live
your day to day life at onehundred percent. And your day to day
life is now hitting the summer, you and your family probably want to get
outdoors a little bit more maybe alittle vaca, a little walking around wherever
you've gone. And it's not thatfun anymore. When you're suffering from chronic
joint pain, well get rid ofit with the help of QC Kinetics.
(01:56:59):

I'm sorry, Adam won a TopBuildings, So excuse me here.
Adam and Adam eighteen eighty Back toAdam Clinton and Adam Wexler Fine Sports Talk
seven ninety. So the Astros win. What's the score the I don't know,
(01:57:45):
it's baseball. Who's pitching for theAngels tonight? What's scrub grift dog
gryffin Canning? You called them Griftdog. Yeah, at least I didn't say
Fromber was pitching again tonight like Idid earlier. What when I do tomorrow?
Morning's video? With the new toythat I just discovered today, Who's
this is a big city. Now, it's not Milwaukee where you're limited to
(01:58:06):
Laverne Shirley and Jeffrey. Anaheim though, that's not a big city. It's
a suburb of La Anaheim. There'sso much you can looks like. It
says a Los Angeles. It's notLa Angeles Angels Dodger they think that that's
their second team. It's not.I mean, Dodgers fans don't have a
second team. Well, where's thestadium located? Is in La or is
(01:58:27):
it an Anaheim? All I seeis have you ever driven from in their
logo that stands for Los Angeles exactlywith a halo on it? What's an
angel Oh? So with a newtoy that I discovered today, it's it's
Gordy's fault, by the way,So those of you that want to come
at me, it's gonna be hisfault when all this goes down, because
it's going to hit the fan.Who's who's making the good Morning announcement.
(01:58:51):
Given who we're talking about here,we're talking about Anaheim, which is,
as you mentioned, close to aHollywood right, can't you you pretty much
anybody? Then? Like, aren'tthere any famous Angels fans? I laughed,
You couldn't keep it face, that'swhat you know. Like Billy Crystal
was famously a Clippers fan way beforethey were good mm hmm. But that's
(01:59:14):
not an option, nor would Iuse it. Well, probably you're probably
gonna use Janet Jackson's brother. Ooh, yeah, that would be good because
he liked Disney a lot. Okay, I see where I like to cut
your jib there, Erry Gus,just go get the dub for AC so
he can make a Good Morning Video. He had six consecutive shows with an
(01:59:36):
homage to the Good Morning Video asour astros open was broken today. You
could use Phantom Planet California that theyused on the OC. What's that is
that a song? Yeah? Thewait that they used on the OC.
Yeah, the show the OC Comeon now, I mean, I know
we like Melrose Place in nine Otwo one zero, I feel like the
(01:59:58):
OC. We can't. I can'tlike the OS. Well, if we're
gonna go WB shows. Then Dawson'sCreek is crushing the oath. Well,
that's also rather embarrassing. But foryou that you haven't seen it, Yeah,
you see what I did there,I turn it. What are you
talking about Dawson's Creek that I haven'tseen? What do you mean I haven't
seen it? You have? Yes, I have exact seen it. I've
seen it. I mean, isthis the song? You know that we
(02:00:19):
weren't talking about the song I wasgonna use Dan. We were talking about
what AI generated good morning greeting.I was going to create. H I
mean, by the way, thissong sucks, and I'm gonna tell you
why it sucks, because not onlydid I have to see my wife watching
it one time through in the courseof our marriage, I think she got
Brooklyn into it. So every timeI walked through the room California, that's
(02:00:45):
right here, it was our generationsMelrose Play, No, it was,
Yes, it was because you watchedit. Doesn't make it our generation guys
in the same generation exactly. He'strying to speak for me. Off this
crap. Listen to this stupid assshow. It was a great, stupid
ass song. It was a greatshow. Listen to how much you hate
it? Right, thus probably agood fit. The only thing that's good
(02:01:08):
about this show is Rachel Bilson.I was gonna say the very saying,
oh heater. I was always teamMisha. See this, man, Dan,
we have some serious division here.I didn't say I didn't like Rachel.
I just well, maybe you shouldright now say that you like her.
Why don't you say that you likeher? Oh, I'm not caving
the pressure. You're gonna cave thepressure. You're gonna like her? I
(02:01:29):
don't, I don't do you knowwhat dance monkey dance? Tell me you
like Rachel Bilson better than Misha Bartonright now? Can't do it now.
I'm angry. Go I'm gonna gohome angry, And whatever happens with my
family's conversation is your fault. Teresa'sgonna be like what a wex do?
No, No, it's Dan isstupid Misha Barton take oh great, now
get her more on my side. She's gonna stab you all right now.
(02:01:51):
I'll give you this. Seems likeI'm trending that way. I'll go seven
to three astros. Yeah, Well, if it's Angel's I'm not going to
work tomorrow. Wow. Till later. We will have the the post game
fisted and he's four you tomorrow Astro'sten game homestand comes to a close on
(02:02:12):
tomorrow game. They're still sitting atsix, six of eight. Gotta get
seven, Gotta win tonight or tomorrow, preferably both. I would like that
a great deal. And then youcan continue your dominant of California when you
go to Oakland for some of theirfinal handful of games there in that bunker,
(02:02:33):
who hits the next homer for theAs gets a homer next? Kyle
Tucker, Chaz McCormick or Jordon Alvarez. Come on, I know you think
it's a come on, Come on, it is a come on. Chazz
is sitting at zero right on theseason, and Jordan's still sitting with just
eight, just eight, just eight? How many? Big time awful Alex
(02:02:58):
Bregman nineteen, rb I super awesome, Jordon Alvarez twenty. How about that
Jordan has effectively taken the month offand he's still crushing Bregman. No kidding,
by one, no hyperbole. Worstmonth of baseball in the career of
Jordon Alvarez by a lot. Right, He's been superhuman. Other than this
(02:03:25):
stretch during twenty twenty four. Well, now, what is he less than
a human? Well, let's putit this way. He's been Rachel Bilson
for most of his career. Thisstretch he's been Misha. I think that's
I like that Dan show. Youhate the show? Not a good show?
Wow Pylon dance segment here at theend of the show. Hey,
I'll take it. It's okay forother people to like it not really,
(02:03:47):
and it's okay for me to givemy opinion, just like Jackson Brown and
Bob Dylan and Jennis Jocelyn and JamesTaylor. I'll never forget when I sent
you the screencap of your smiling Faceand you, without a beat missing just
come back with yeah, look asong called your Smiling Face. As he
scowls at you. I mean,it's just I set you up. Everybody
