Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adamtalking Your Teams series. Adam Clinton and
Adam Wexler are the A Team.A Well, we're discussing race, relations
and politics off the air, solvingthe world's problems. So let's get into
(00:23):
sports on a Thursday edition of TheA Team here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
His name is Adam Wexler. Myname is Adam Clinton. Dan Matthews
is the show killer. He isour producers. We take you up until
six o'clock tonight tomorrow. We willnot be in studio. We will be
out and about. I don't rememberthe last time I did a show,
an entire show at Gallery Furniture,if ever. I mean, I've been
(00:47):
there a lot and Buddies with Macand Ma's been very good to us here,
but I don't think I've ever donean actual show there. You probably
have at some point, because you'veworked longer than I have. We will
be at Gallery Furniture tomorrow for thefull show, the original location, the
original location, and I think anyself respecting Houstonian knows exactly where that is.
I forty five between Till and Barker, Pray Pray, Pray, no
(01:08):
back corner slips, so we'll havesome more information about that, but definitely
looking forward to getting into our holidayweekend with that, and you'll look forward
to some of the great opportunities youhave out there, as you always do
with Mac and everything going on atGallery Furniture. He loves him some sports,
so no doubt topics of conversation then, just like they will be today
(01:29):
surrounding the first fifty first fifty gameswhere the Houston Astros went in the books
yesterday before we got on the airfor the tenth Inning Show. The next
one to twelve begin tomorrow in Oaklandagainst the team they have yet to lose
to, and they've played them. They played them four times earlier this year,
all in Houston or some people whoyou actually hear on these airwaves every
(01:51):
now and then if you so chooseto, I think the Astros can't play
well at home where they beat themfour times. So I've got some updated
information, so trying to inform thepublic, especially the media, national public,
and on what's going on with theAstros of late. They've lined it
up to where hopefully they can startor finish what they've started winning games after
(02:14):
leaving the fifty states. Their MexicoCity reboot continues. As much as losing
any games, let alone two gamesto the Angels might burn. You win
seven out of ten at home, you win fifteen out of twenty four games,
which is again almost half of yourseason. You kind of see where
things are going. Still six gamesunder five hundred, by only going six
(02:36):
games over five hundred in the lasttwenty four because they had to overcome a
twelve games under five hundred start tothe season, and that still stings,
And that's still quite the hill. They have been climbing steadily since the Mexico
City reboot, but they're nowhere nearthe top. They're nowhere near the peak
of Mountain number one, which theyneed to jump off of to get to
(02:57):
Mountain number two, because they haveto climb that one all. So that's
what's still daunting as a task infront of them. But considering we like
numbers round as they may be,even as they may be in the world
of sports, as in man, that guy's pretty good at basketball, but
he only had nine rebounds in nineassists, so it was a single double.
He's not that good. But thisguy he had fourteen points, ten
(03:19):
boards, and ten assists. That'sa triple double wow. So the Astros
have played in even fifty games. So we'll let you think on this a
little bit, and over the courseof the next three hours, love to
hear from you on this, andwe'll share our thoughts throughout the show.
The best and the worst of thefirst fifty for the Houston Astros. A
best day, a best moment,a best pitcher, a best play,
(03:44):
and obviously the opposite, the worstday, the worst moment, the worst
stretch, the worst first baseman, whatever anything you might come up with,
all fair game for the three houredition of Today's a team off day for
the Astros. They made their wayto Oakland yesterday so they could have the
off day while on the road. They will make their way to Seattle this
(04:04):
weekend. Seattle and Texas. Whilethe Astros were playing three against the Angels,
those two teams were playing two ofthe best teams in baseball in their
respective yards. Seattle went to NewYork and last night and then earlier today,
Elle and Elle suck it. Seattledid not score today. If you
recalled yesterday and many days so farthis season. Right here on this very
(04:27):
show, I've told you that theMariners offense is poor. It was poor
today, granted they faced one ofthe best pitchers in the American League,
just like the Astros did not longago. Luis Heel allowed one hit to
the Mariners, and then he andthe bullpen continued the shutout. They lose
five to nothing behind Luis Castillo, who pitched well. But if the Mariners
can't score, they're not likely towin this division no matter how strong they're
(04:50):
pitching is, and it hasn't beenquite as strong over the last handful of
days. Rangers trying to match thatloss yesterday and lost today. As they
are at Yankee Stadium, They've gota few outs to play with still in
the ninth inning of a game. They are losing five to two. They're
in Philly. What did I say? I think it's okay? You were
just talking about Oakland? Is excuse? The Astros are in Oakland. The
(05:14):
Mariners finished with the Yankees with theirgame earlier today, and the Rangers are
in Philadelphia, finishing the last oftheir series and they're down five to two
with an out in the top ofthe ninth a. I'm not sure if
Bruce Bochie will talk more about it. After the game. He talked about
it before the game. Gave CoreySeger the day off, which they've been
doing throughout the season. He hasactually finally gotten hot, having homer multiple
(05:40):
times three dimes in a row thisweek while butchering baseballs at shortstop on the
rag. He has been awful asa fielder this year. Got another day
off. Remember he missed spring training, so there may be some method to
that, and that's what both Shekind of hinted at some extra days off
over the course of the season. But this would send the Rangers to three
games under five hundred. If thePhillies can finish off this five to two
(06:02):
lead there in the ninth, theAstros are six games under. And again
it's it's not really scoreboard watching, and it can't really become it unless you
play good baseball, which they havestarted to do well, and you know,
get your jolly's in. But theAstros no better than anyone, how
difficult it is to get a winagainst the Yankees, because that's all I've
(06:24):
gotten this year and all they willget this year. And the Phillies are
the best team in Major League Baseball. I mean, you can talk about
show Hey and all of his numbers. Go grade that out by the simplest
numbers. Right, you're gonna lookat the standings. I'm not even gonna
record, right, I'm not evengonnaok at the standings. I'm gonna look
at the fact that they're dismantling teamsthis year. They're hitting is good,
they're pitching is good, their bullpenis good. And yeah, they've got
(06:46):
the best record. So those kindsof things add up to I think they're
the best team in baseball. Sothey'll go to thirty seven and fourteen if
they close up shop today with thatfive one and eight at home, twenty
one and eight, which will betwenty two, yes, right, And
of those fifty one games, fortyfive of them will have come against teams
(07:10):
five hundred or worse. Well, and conversely, six games all season,
yes, against teams above five hundred. Now, since I know you have
this just ready, I hope,so floating around in that overloaded brain of
yours, what's the Astros just theirrecord or just their their season against you
know, good teams, So teamsabove five hundred. Sure, let's start
(07:34):
there. They're thirteen games under, they're six and nineteen. Well, what's
there? What I guess what Isay, there's about sixteen and nine against
teams at five hundred or worse.I guess what I should have asked is
how much of their first fifty gameswere against those teams? Started to change
the last two weeks, they wereup at thirty two games against teams at
five hundred or better. They're nowdown to twenty five. Did they have
(07:55):
they had, by the numbers, the most or one of the most difficult
schedules. Not anymore, because someof these teams have been flirting with five
hundred and now are looking up atfive hundred, and they started losing two
out of three to the bad teamsthat they started playing. It's a number
of different ways to look at things. The American League had a bunch of
teams with winning records that are justnow drifting under and now it's about half
(08:16):
an half, about fifty to fifty. The National League has even fewer teams
above five hundred. They have five. It's only five of the fifteen National
League teams currently have a winning record, so it's gonna skew the numbers.
What the five that do are reallygood? The Astros just took two out
of three from the Brewers. Theyhave seen the Braves they got swept by
(08:37):
the Cubs, and then the Philliesand Dodgers are the other two. Oh
and look at that the Braves andthe Cubs are playing each other right now
in Chicago. Yeah, baseball allthe rage A game a piece into each
of the respective conference finals on theNBA side, with the road team winning
last night, the home team winningin overtime in the Eastern Conference two nights
ago. I don't think a wholelot of attention here being paid to that.
(09:00):
There maybe some attention being paid tothe recently completed combine and the latest
post combine mock draft for your HoustonRockets. Well, the draft is still
over a month away, so we'llshelve that for the time being. There
is some juicy stuff floating around aboutthe Rockets, though, I mean not
that we're gonna get into a lotof Did you say another NBA head coach
(09:22):
got fired? Is that what Iheard? A former Rockets head coach,
albeit interim and a really nice guy, and like unlike Steven Silas, there
can coach there's something like you.You made this ridiculous claim about four or
five minutes ago calling the Phillies thebest team in baseball based on their record
based on their one loss record,So would I be as crazy to think,
(09:46):
well, gee, over the lasttwo years, as the team has
added talent, the Cavs have beenone of the best teams in the and
they advanced in the postseason this year. Yes, but they fat spectacular when
they're players not playing. I amno again, I agree, I don't
think they should Listen. If anybodyhas earned the right for a reprieve from
(10:07):
the gallows, it's it's JB.Bickerstaff. He's been there through the He
was there for the Kevin Porter yearsin Cleveland. They just he personally just
went over five hundred as a coachthere in Cleveland this year because he was
there how long. It's taken ofthe bad years. But Donovan Mitchell mentioned
in the last two games against theCeltics, Jared Allen having injury issues and
(10:28):
missing time as well in the postseason, and with their exit to the clearly
best team in the Eastern Conference,no matter what the overtime game might suggest,
they decided we got to go inanother direction. By the way,
this is this is a he probablygets a pass because nobody considers him like
this. I won't it. Imean until I read or hear from somebody
who knows and tells me otherwise, because those who seem to know are telling
(10:50):
us this. This is a playerrelated firing. This is the best player
on the team related firing. Sowhat I think you're saying is that they
think they being the Cleveland Cavaliers organization. What was the font that their owner
used that one time in that release, Well, I want to say wing
dings, even if it's wrong, because it was Comic Sands. That's right.
(11:11):
The Comic Sans NBA franchise, Ithink believes that they have a better
chance of retaining the services of DonovanMitchell. He's upbringing a coach like I
don't know who the anthem that's agood but here's even there. Who is
that coach? Is something later onin the show I think we might get
to. He's under contract for onemore year. Would be the time to
extend him if you're trying to keephim, or it would clearly be his
(11:33):
opportunity to say you're not going toextend me, either move me, or
wait till you see what happens thisfinal year. Of my contract this offseason
before he hits a potentially unrestricted freeagency. But it is amazing how many
teams have what we think is asuccessful season turns into well, it didn't
go as far as you went.Don't have to look much further than Monny
(11:54):
Williams and others over the last handfulof years with seemingly successful seasons. But
we gave you all this talent. It's on you. I don't care about
injuries or any other factors. We'removing on from you. You get your
money, but we're moving on toTween. Casey won Coach of the Year
and got his exit papers. Quitea league, really is. There are
four teams left, and like Isaid, we will I'm sure get to
(12:16):
that when the time permits. Butto Astro's front burner. Texans wrapping up
Week one of OTA's today and we'llget back to it again tomorrow. And
there are a few lists rankings statisticallybased that I thought were extremely important to
note about yours, Houston Texans. It's a ranking where the actual rank doesn't
(12:37):
put the Texans first, but ifyou dig a little deeper, they're not
only first there first by a mile. So looking forward to sharing that information
with you and look forward to yourinput there out the afternoons. We're just
getting rolling here on the Thursday editionof the eighteen. Rangers lost back to
Adam Clinton had Adam Wexworth the eighton Sports Talk seven ninety We here with
(13:00):
you Dan as well the eight teamon a Thursday afternoon off day for the
Astros, losses by both the Marinersand Rangers already in the books for today,
and then they'll get to the weekend, just like your Houston Astros will.
Friday, the Astros open up alate night three game series with the
Oakland Athletics for those two teams thatjust finished up their respective series. The
(13:20):
Rangers will travel to Minnesota, Minnesotaat twenty six and twenty three currently on
the season. The Mariners season, after their loss this afternoon again to the
Yankees, will continue in DC.They take on the Nationals tomorrow evening and
again the Astros game tomorrow night withthe A's will feature Justin Verlander and noted
(13:43):
Astro beanballer Ross stripling on the record. Beanballer, by the way, and
in his most recent outing, heactually did it. He's faced the Astros
several times since making that statement withouthitting any Astros. But in his most
recent our, just a week agoat Minute Made Park, where the Astros
(14:03):
aren't bad, he hit Al twovag with a fastball. Don't they routinely
show that guy, which is thereal reason he wanted to hit them.
They have, but they've all He'salso pitched well against them at times.
You know what I have to do. I have to do this. It's
actually well, I had to waituntil the Rangers loss became official to do
it, so that's why it didn'thappen sooner, like the first segment of
(14:24):
the show. I have to doit. I have to be my best
version of a wet blanket on theshow. When it comes to the last
forty eight hours, or really thelast twenty four hours, technically, imagine
if they had not lost that gameyesterday the way they lost it inexcruciating fashion,
or better yet, the first gamein that series against the Angels.
Let's just consider the fact that theywere absolutely in place to sweep the Angels
(14:48):
and then have what happened over thelast twenty four hours happen, then where
would you be sitting. You wouldcertainly be in second place, You'd be
tied with the Rangers, and youwould have the season series, so you
would be ahead of them. Yes, stat you'd be twenty four and twenty
six. But again, you're callingfor an astro sweep of a team that
beats you twice in three days. They didn't beat you, You beat yourself.
(15:11):
They outscored you. Trov went intobusiness for himself, and then we
gloss over the fact that it couldhave worked. Every once in a while,
pitchers shake off catchers and it works. They go against the game plan
and it works, he pitched.I don't want to hear any of that
stuff, and I also don't wantto you know, the more I look
at, the more Maddie Wrestler goneinto business for himself and it worked.
Brother always worked for me, Brother, I mean, I made the most
(15:33):
money I was making. I knowVince was sitting at his desk with his
quill scrolling out a playlist of whatwas going to happen that night, but
he went against it. I knowwe're not supposed to deviate, but that
I can't. Have you ever heardthe story of the two of them locking
themselves in a hotel room in eitherMiami or Tampa and writing the screenplay for
(15:54):
No. Holds Barred. It's thegreatest story you've ever heard in your life
because it basically consists of one ofthe two of them. And I can't
remember if it was Vince or Hulkgoing into the facilities in said hotel room
and taking care of business and itinspired them because they were having writer's block.
(16:18):
Was anybody else there? No,no, No, it wasn't that
kind of business. It was theother kind of business, private business.
They both are, right, Yeah, I mean I hope our listeners are
following. This was number two.Oh you mean they went into the bathroom
and used it. Oh one ofthem did not both of them? Oh
see, I was trying to followalong. I got all right, Yeah,
I should have clarified. Yeah.I think it might have been Vince
(16:38):
because he comes out and he goes, I've got it. Here's what the
story man. The jokes are easywriter's block, So that's how he cleared
it. Okay, now I'm withyou. It's not what I was.
It's not what I was saying.X. I think this is hold no
holds Barred was definitely one of JesseVenture's best movies? Was it one of
(16:59):
Hulk Hogan's Because your other option isSuburban Commando. I mean you don't count
Rocky three. No, it wasa cameo and he wasn't even called Hulk
Cogan. He was thunderlips. That'spretty good. He's for charity here.
Why are you throwing me under thecrowd? It was it was if rotten
tomatoes and I don't have the figuregives no holds barred a twenty four percent.
(17:21):
Huh, Suburban Commando probably gives likea number comparable to Jose Abrave's War.
You remember Adrian's famous line from theentire series. What was her famous
line? You can't win. That'swhen she should have used it when Hulk
Hogan was throwing sly into the crowdat a charity match. You can't win.
It's an exhibition, of course,I can't win. I'm not trying
(17:42):
to win. You have some fundsfor the kids. Okay. So anyway,
Yes, they went off script andit didn't work out. They could
have been in such a better spot. Yeah, it'd be nice to be
two games under heading into a threegame series with Oakland because that trek to
five hundred where you you just wantto visit that like get there so you
can star aren't really taking off?Still possible. It is the end of
(18:02):
the month. It's still possible.Well, the only way to be over
five hundred by the end of themonth is to win every game. They
can be at five hundred if theylose one. You want to actually,
I take that that's the only wayto do it. You want to make
to win the bet. I mean, if you want to give me something,
then sure, because I will win. What about five hundred, five
hundred? What what if it's notover? What if it's just get to
(18:26):
five hundre I'm gonna help you that. It gives me. I'm gonna wiggle
room. They're bad at twenty two, twenty eight in the first fifty.
The best they've done all year isa seventy three stretch. And so now
you're asking for an eight game winstreak? Is that? Why not?
They just had us what was itfive to six? What was it?
It was six? They could dothat. They're playing Oakland. They suck
three times. There's not even gonnabe Vuvuzela's there this time because nobody shows
(18:49):
up anymore. What did I sayeither on the air or during a break
yesterday? And I say it everyyear during baseball season, at least once
regarding the at least sixty two losses, or just from a division stand point,
that they're not going to go undefeatedagainst these teams. It doesn't happen.
Now that they've limited it to thirteengames per division opponent, it's getting
more and more possible that some dominantteam can do that, and the Astros
(19:11):
could close. They would have donein twenty nineteen if they only played in
thirteen times, it would have beena season sweep. Yep. So the
Astros will still be looking for ninemore straight wins against the A's to sweep
the thirteen game season series beginning tomorrownight, exactly just like I said,
just how I drew it up.And with the you know, the recent
(19:33):
losses by the Rangers, the entireAmerican League West has a negative run differential
and clearly they're the only team, only division in baseball that can boast such
a statistic. By the way,I mean again, the last time JV
had a less than stellar start,he bounced back in a big way.
Now, I don't compare his laststart with the one that was two starts
(19:57):
before that, because he's alternated nowwith at least wins and losses, but
I don't look at those the same. He had a ridiculous, as he
put it, fight, and helost with Contreras, and that was it.
Thirteen pitch at bat. Yep,I have no doubt my mind he
is. I don't even like touse this term because it's so stupid,
but he's going to shove tomorrow nightin Oakland. Yeah. And all of
(20:19):
his starts except for the one againstthe Yankees that's the blow up start,
and I'm including this most recent start. He has allowed fewer hits than innings
pitch. That includes the game againstMilwaukee. And now some of them aren't
very good starts, but he hasn'tbeen hit around. He hasn't been really
struggling to find the strike zone tothe point where he can't get himself in
(20:41):
and out of trouble. Other thanthat one day on the road at New
York. It'll be his seventh start, it'll be his fifth start away from
Minute May Park. But he alsohas, at least this month, Cleveland,
New York, Detroit, Milwaukee muchbetter teams. Although to be fair,
it's really not about how good there, it's about how good they are
offenses and Cleveland's offense is not verygood. Handle them. Troit's offense,
(21:04):
I mean, average at best plusthat's the whole game for him and Oakland's
offense. As much as I wantto hammer Seattle's offense, this is the
best way I can put it.If you have the chance and you don't
want to just believe me, feelfree to check the numbers out yourselves.
The A's offense and the Mariner's offenseare as close to mirror images as you
can get anywhere in baseball, exceptthe Mariners strike out even more. They're
(21:29):
dreadful. They are bad, andeven with getting JP Crawford back this week,
they strike out more than any teamin baseball. They're just not a
good hitting team. And you should. You the Astros, with your staff,
with what's happening in May, shouldbe able to handle that side of
it. JP Crawford's overrated, sure, but he's better than the replacement.
True, Okay, I'll give youthat. But again, and he will
(21:52):
pitch. He'll pitch in Detroit. You said he's pitching tomorrow, JV.
No, I know, but yousaid they're gonna go to that's way off,
all right. He won't pitch again. On this road trip though,
he'll just miss it. Well,he should pitch it in Seattle the last
game, right, wouldn't it bebecause it's a four game series. Yeah,
they have seven games. They don'thave an eight man rotation. I
(22:15):
just I know, but I amactually thinking about the six man rotation,
so I was trying to do themass expected to pitch for sure in Seattle.
It's just a matter of if there'sany way they feel like manipulating it,
as they'll they'll finally as of Sunday, have a full roster. I
mean, I know you don't feelit because it's a starter and you couldn't
add a reliever. But all thesegames they've been playing or with twenty five
(22:37):
man roster while their opponents are playingwith a twenty six man roster. And
Renel Blanco will be activated to makehis start on Sunday and they'll be full
again. They will probably consider, you, you know, if there's a
day during this early part of thisroad trip where Parker Mushinsky maybe gets extended
taxed, they would maybe have toconsider making a move to have another arm
(22:57):
there like they've been doing much ofthis season. Everybody out of the bullpen
currently on the Astros roster has beenreally, really good. Their worst pitcher
during this good stretch of baseball sinceNew Mexico City reboot is Montero and his
RA is in the low fours.Everybody else's the RA is two to eight
or better. And that's literally everybody. Mushinski, Martinez, Taylor, Scott,
(23:19):
a Bray, you hater, Presley, that's with a Bray you giving
up a home run the other day. But then he came back and was
strong yesterday. Yeah, and that'salmost half the season. Now, that's
twenty four of the fifty games leadinginto tomorrow's game. The bullpen has been
incredibly good over that stretch. Betterthan twenty twenty three. I'm not so
sure about that, but pretty good. Well, it wasn't a great season
(23:42):
for the bullpen until the postseason.Yeah, and then they were automatic.
They have been very, very good. It was the starters the most important
times. Yeah. Yeah, soyeah, I'm looking forward to it.
I actually wish it wasn't an offday to day. I know it's helping
them, especially the bullpen that you'retalking about. That and the fact that
Hunter Brown wents he went six yesterday, did he not six innings, two
(24:03):
hits, two runs that helped thatcause going into an off day, So
yeah, they should be locked andloaded, especially with Justin going on the
mound a lot to start. Youlike that? Yeah, I do like
that, and see if Jack likesit. Twenty minutes. No need for
a roadmap win. All roads leadto that sweet iHeart radio app, Astros
(24:25):
and Rockets games plus legendary Houston SportsTalk seven ninety on any device with a
free iHeartRadio app. Now that's theart of living. Thursday edition of the
Eight Team continues. A major announcementfrom baseball coming earlier today. I think
everybody believes, Wow, this isgreat news for one reason and might be
(24:48):
probably not so great news for anotherreason, and it might not be what
you expect, but the World BaseballClassic. Major League Baseball and the Players
Union announced that when the World BaseballClassic it's going again, and that will
be in twenty twenty six. Oneof the venues there are four for pool
play, quarterfinals and the championship round. One of the venues will be Minute
(25:11):
May Park in Houston. Now thatis exciting. It's great baseball, it's
a great atmosphere that should be fun. Pool play and quarterfinal action will be
played at Minute May Park. They'llhave pool play in San Juan, Miami
and Tokyo also, and then theother quarterfinal play will be in Miami at
Lone Depot Park and that's where theywill have the championship round. So there'll
(25:33):
be a bunch of baseball games intwenty twenty six for the World Baseball Classic.
That's the yay. That's neat good. I like that news. The
not so good news to me isthe still unchanged timing of when the World
Baseball Classic will happen. I'm nothere to try to eliminate this tournament.
To this really entertaining event and somethingthat many countries fans do truly enjoy,
(26:00):
and clearly the players do enjoy itwhen they don't get hurt and when it
doesn't impact their season. Well, the way to prevent that is stop having
it immediately before the baseball season. How about immediately after the baseball season.
How about immediately after the baseball season. I don't think it's as big a
(26:21):
concern if the players aren't at theirabsolute best, because they're not going to
put their jobs in nearly as muchjeopardy. Now again, if edwin Diaz
a celebrating of victory and he jumpsup and down and tears his ACL in
November when the weather's bad. Iam aware. Yeah, he's probably still
going to miss an extended period oftime, maybe even a full season.
(26:44):
If somebody else, some random formerMVP gets hit on the hand with a
pitch, well he probably won't missany games, or any season, or
really any significant time during his offseason, which is clearly what happened to
not a random player, but ratherJose al Tuve with the Astros last year,
came back and he was phenomenal, was almost as phenomenal as he's been,
(27:06):
if not more so, probably moreso last year than so far he
has been this year. I don'tthink it's easy. It's not an automatic.
Yes, this is what they shoulddo, But when they continued to
play these games at the time thatthey do, and the Astros were one
of the teams that had more thantheir fair share of players participate, they
actually had multiple players they requested stronglyto not play. They asked fromber Valdez
(27:30):
to not go into business for himselfand pitch for his country during the World
Baseball Classic, and he agreed toto not do that. Jose Orkeaty was
a part of the squad, hissquad, Jose Al Tuve, Ryan Presley,
Kyle Tucker, and I'm sure ahost like them in the future,
mean whudos what the Astros particular rosterwill look like in March of twenty twenty
(27:52):
six. That's this full season andnext full season away. But again it's
to me, it's only about thetiming. I do fully recognize you're probably
not going to find four awesome outdoorstadiums at that time of year. The
Tokyo Dome by name itself, Ibelieve that would not be one of them.
So you could do that whenever. So I know there's other things at
(28:12):
play, and I get it andthe timing of it, and it only
affects so many players. But wesaw what happened the last time around.
It really did not make a wholelot of people very happy about it,
and the Astros were not even atthe front of that line, like I
mentioned when you look at the NewYork Mets, but we're a couple of
years away. I do think thosegames, like most international events, whether
it's soccer, boxing, not necessarilyinternational, but a non traditional team sport
(28:37):
coast to town. Oh, well, the Olympics haven't been here. They
tried really hard, they did.And just golf, which is going to
be back here next month, bythe way, not the PGA Tour of
the l IV Tour if you're familiarwith it, Oh, I'm familiar.
Very contrast. It will be fun. But all these events are well attended,
(28:59):
lots of hus about them, mostof, if not all of these
events in some form or fashion. With the Harris County Houston Sports Authority involved
as they are with the World BaseballClassic, it's a really good choice for
baseball. It's a nationally speaking andthe WBC and MLB and MLBPA getting together.
It's the first time they'll have gameshere in Houston for this event,
the sixth time they've had the eventand the first time it'll come to Houston.
(29:22):
They will do well, They willbe fun. It's just the timing
of the event itself is the thingthat will, I think, continue to
make people question how unhealthful it isfor some Major League teams and their respective
players that are participating. Well, hopefully there's not any unfortunate injuries that affect
the astros stemming from it. Yeah, like I don't know what their roster
will look like in twenty twenty six, how many of their players will have
(29:45):
already played and won't be as compelledto go again, or vice versus some
that haven't that if given the opportunity, would absolutely love to do so.
You know, Luis Garcia was therefor it and look where that got him.
I don't think that's co not meaccording to some, but yes,
it's it's for the city and forthe venue and for the Astros. Is
their involvement, and yeah, it'sgreat, just would be very much in
(30:10):
favor of figuring out a little bitbetter time for well, since his name
came up and we just saw himthrowing off the main mound in Minute Made
Park the other day, I knowhe's not Justin Verlander. No one is.
It's just a very it's just difficultto even make the comparison. But
since that's what we have here inHouston, specifically because it all has happened
(30:30):
here with both of them in Houstonuniforms, how much are you confident that
when he does come back, hejust kind of picks up where he left
off the way Justin did. Now, Justin was doing this coming off a
full off season and spring training andyou know everything. This is completely the
opposite because it's middle of the yearto middle of the year, and yeah,
(30:52):
it's pure timing like that. Thatone in and of itself makes me
say, I don't believe that's gonnahappen. Justin Verlander was hurt in the
opener of the prior year, theCOVID season, and so that entire season,
if you take it a year fromthat, there was basically half a
baseball season left the following year ona full schedule, which he did not
pitch in, So he took aI wouldn't say he took his time.
(31:15):
I think that's just the calendar wasable to. He was able to,
and he did. And we havejust passed one year from surgery date.
Well, that's because he's not expecteduntil what early August. Lately, he's
pitching off the mound right now,and they expected to pitch off the mound
a couple more times before he faceshitters. And I don't think when they
say face hitters they mean he's pitchingin a rehab game, but more likely
(31:37):
a simulated game throwing to live batters. And then that might be coming if
he has no setbacks from his lasttrip to the mound, which was this
week, to as he rolls throughthat he's pitching before August. He's pitching
in July at the latest, whichwould put him at fourteen months. He
had a surgery on May nineteenth, three for justin nineteen I think, so
(32:00):
it's not that different, but that'sa lot of time. The timing of
is different. You might feel alittle bit differently about it. And it
also has a little bit to dowith the strain you put on your arm,
your mechanics, your stuff. Imean, I don't think at any
point of Luis's brief career you wouldsay he's got better stuff than JV or
he can there's ways he can gethitters out. I really I kept.
(32:21):
You know, we talk about theseback end of the rotation pitchers for the
Astros. Most likely when you're puttingthose two together, you're talking about Louis
Scarci and you're talking about Jose Rikeaty. The last three or four years,
they've both had some unbelievable postseason moments, they both had some very good starts.
They both have entrenched themselves when healthyLouis members of the starting rotation Luis
(32:42):
basically pitched you another game in Gamethree against the Mariners in the twenty two
postseason, and he had the unbelievablestart against the Red Sox in the postseason.
But I was setting all that upto say, I'm whatever it is
about their stuff, the way theythrow, the way they get swing and
miss or don't, I personally alwaysfeel better about, well, Louis is
going to get it. Louis hasthe stuff. I feel confident that he's
(33:05):
going to re establish himself as amember of those rotation. And I just
don't ever feel that way about Urkiti. I'm not saying I'm right. I'm
just saying I feel that way,and I get the sense that not everybody
does. No I'm one of them, but just I just I can't.
I say it a million times,I'll say it again. I can't ignore
that he did what he did asa rookie in the World Series on the
road and not give him at leastsome benefit of the doubt. Now.
(33:29):
Has he had some rough patches actuallyreally the last couple of years for sure,
of course, But because of that, much like with Louise, I
just give guys like that. I'ddo that to Lance mccullors, but he's
just got a bigger sample size, although he has more of a question mark
from an injury standpoint than those othertwo combined. Like when Lance comes back,
(33:50):
we're all just going to be holdingour breath every time he makes a
start for the rest of his life. He probably will too. And that's
the worst part about it, themental side of it and going out there
and doing what you can do there. It will happen again. I don't
have any reason yet to think thatthere's been a setback. There's been a
reason that he's not still on schedule. He hasn't reached some of the same
benchmarks as others, but he's alsonot working off the same timeline. We're
(34:10):
also doing the same you know.We mentioned it. Every time we get
a chance to do our show outon Friday at the ballpark, we see
the same quartet of pitchers. Itdoesn't feel like it because their kid's only
been on the fifteen day IL,but he hasn't pitched for the Astros this
year. They've all been on theIL throughout the season, and that includes
pen Murphy, who I think wasa very shrewd acquisition by the Astros.
(34:30):
Another major surgery that put him offof the field, but has really good
stuff and has had really good successas a bullpen guy in the major leagues.
It's just a matter of when willthat manifest itself again. And even
in Luis's case, I was talkingabout his postseason performance against the Red Sox
where he pitched into the sixth innand had a one hitter and it was
(34:52):
just just incredible. Well, itwas also in a series where his first
appearance was oh, yeah, don'tget anybody out. Yeah, And he
has games like that, but youknow, so does Justin Verlander. Sometimes
it's rare, but you know theyall have. They're not perfect. They
are not perfect. As good asthey've been and as good as the Astros
(35:12):
have been for as long as they'vebeen good, you just have to take
that into account. I'm just curiouswhat we're gonna see because again, unlike
Lance mccullors, I don't I hopewe're not in a situation where you're just
waiting for the next injury. AndI hope that's not the case for McCullers
anymore. It's just been very, very frustrating, most of all for him,
I'm sure, But again, you'reyou're looking at a team that's right
(35:36):
on the cusp of getting back tofive hundred, and they have not had
anybody run away with a division.Quite the opposite. That's why I'm mad
they lost to two out of thethree games, because they'd be in an
even prettier place sitting wise, ifthey had gotten those two games. We
will wrap up the three o'clock hournext here on a Thursday edition of the
A Team Sports Talk seven to ninety. It is a Thursday, which means
(35:58):
I'm making a stop over at theHeights where specifically in the Heights Men's Tea
Clinic. They've got five Houston arealocations. The Heights is one of them,
right there at Iten and Durham. If all things are the way they
need to go and there's no scheduleflubs and that kind of thing, I
usually hit up the Heights location rightaround a quarter to one o'clock every single
Thursday afternoon. But if you're inthe Cyprus, Paarland, Pasadena or Spring
(36:22):
areas, they have locations there aswell. Check them out online at Men's
Teaclinic dot com for all the details, and in that vein you go to
their website right now, you gointo one of those five Houston area locations,
you're going to see pretty quickly thatthey are celebrating and what they're celebrating
is their tenth anniversary this year. And to thank you guys, the customers
throughout this month, there's still timehere in the month of May, Men's

got my testosterone level where it needsto be, and also said,
yeah, put it on the menulike you do every week, the B

Uh, I'm sure you watched everyminute of Game one of the Western
(37:52):
Conference Finals last night. You hadto have. Luckily I had the game
on so when I slept through mostof it, I could go back and
watch it. So yes, butI was told it was such an amazing
game. How could you possibly havefallen asleep in it? I mean,
I'm old and a really hard dayyesterday, almost a full show, so
I was tired. Well, Imat understands. Yeah, I get it.
It wasn't a bad game. Itwas very entertaining, it was very
(38:14):
close. It featured a comeback andfeatured a bad call. I guess sure,
come on, man, I'm noteven a Karl Anthony Towns feat NBA
game. It's like part of it. It's almost a given. But again,
and I know it wasn't a playoffgame. Remember when they disallowed James
Harden's dunk the one that went allthe way through the hoop and down.
(38:37):
I remember, I mean, that'snot the exact same, but this is
worse when you consider it was atwo point game at the time. That
basket would have tied it, andit's not going to count because why And
I actually read an article today whereit was like, well, by the
letter of the law, it actuallywas above the cylinder. For those of
(38:58):
you who don't know what I'm talkingabout, Karl Anthony Towns had to put
back that he got off a reboundthat clearly bounced out and away from the
invisible cylinder, Which is my favoritepart of the rule. It's invisible.
How are you supposed to accurately dictatewhether or not it is over the cylinder
if the cylinder in question is invisible, Well can't. Well it's a little
(39:22):
bit like the end zone, theinvisible plane. Did you the football crossed
the end zone? How about that? You know, I'm glad you brought
that up. When these guys arejudging where the punt landed, they don't
know. That's different. They absolutelydo not know. You're talking about an
imaginary line that goes vertically from theend of that sideline way up into the
air wherever that ball crossed it.And you're telling me this guy over here
(39:45):
saw it, but you just saidway up into the air, just like
this. This is a foot abovethe rim, maybe two tops. So
look at the overheadarra like twenty yardsabove. I feel it. But it's
the same concept where the if youlook at that overhead camera alone, he
gets the ball in his hands whenit's well outside of the cylinder. You
(40:07):
have seen the awesome, tremendous caseclosed post on the X platform from a
verified account that confirms the ruling ofoffensive basket interference. You've seen that.
I don't know. Well, i'llgive you the handle. It's at NBA
official. Oh well, then Ialready know it's wrong. During last night's
(40:30):
game, replay center officials utilize Hawkeyeview technology to confirm the ruling of offensive
basket interference, and it takes theimaginary cylinder in a graphic and rises up
above the rim. And guess what'sinside the cylinder? Wilson, Not Tom
(40:51):
Hanks Wilson, but Karl Anthony TownsWilson inside the cylinder. Yeah, correct,
call to the league. Yeah, with video and graphic evidence. Yeah,
Oh, Colkeye view technology ac nowdo now do Scott Foster's performance in
the twenty eighteen Conference Finals Game seven. So moving on from the officiating side
(41:12):
of it, yes, this isthe only reason why Dallas has a chance
to not only win this series, but to win any series. And I
truly believe this for at least thefinal four teams, maybe for any team
that made the playoffs. No teamhas two closers like they do. No
team has two individual offensive talents likethey do. You can maybe stop one
for a brief period of time, but you probably then aren't stopping the other.
(41:35):
And if you're our stopping one, then now the other or maybe they're
both going. That's what gives theIf they can't you are the Celtics.
The Celtics do not have two individualone on one offensive players as good as
Kyrie Irving, I'm and Luca. What I'm saying, they might be able
to blow you out. Yeah that'strue. But what I'm saying is you
can stop them if you're the Celtics, because the Celtics are by far the
best defensive team remaining and that includesMinnesotannesota's better defensively than the Celtics. Oh
(42:01):
No, way certainly without Kristaps,I don't even think it's close. Well,
Christaps might make his return, youknow what, if I'm whoever comes
out of the West, I'm moreworried about Kristaps hitting wide ass open three
points and the thing with Dallas. Also, I'm just back to Minnesota's defense
(42:21):
tremendously, but their defense against thesetwo offensive players, it's still a challenge.
Like we Jake McDaniels deserve every bitof the respect he's gotten, every
bit of the All Defensive Team thathe made. Defending Jamal Murray and defending
Michael Porter Junior at times is sodramatically different than defending either of these two
(42:42):
offensive players. I know, theAnthony Edwards stuff got all the run last
night, especially since Kyrie was onset with the Inside the NBA crew,
and that was a fantastic several minutesworth of interviews because of the matchup,
specifically with Anthony Edwards that Edwards hadtalked about. But defending Luca because he
is in James Harden's body and likehe just likes to barrel people over until
(43:04):
he gets to seven feet away andthen he fades away and makes it.
It's different than defending Jamal Murray, who can't get around you because you're so
good with your feet and he's notgoing to push you around. Luca,
you know, I make remarks abouthim being out of shape. It's not
that he's fat, it's that hehas to be a certain size to play
the way he wants to play.I still think he should be in better
(43:25):
shape. I'm not saying he hasto get super thin, because he needs
that to play the way he does. And Kyrie, our own head coach
here in Houston said it during theseason emy Udoka, And he's someone who's
been around him quite a bit. Most NBA coaches in some form or fashion
have either coached him, or beenon a Team USA event with him,
or coached against him, and theywould I would think they would all agree
he's the single best individual one onone player in the league right now.
(43:51):
Yeah, and he's showing it thispostseason. Again, James Harden was that
at one point and Kyrie was stillthere and winning five when it was happening.
But Kyrie's been one of them,if not the right now he's the
guy. So but I again,I don't see I don't see them winning
four games against the Timberwolves before theTimberwolves win four games against them. All
(44:15):
Right, when we come back,we love lists, right, I know
WEX loves lists. I'm gonna tellyou why c J. Straushi actually be
higher on a list that we're goingto reveal to you when we return.
First, we need to tell you, guys about Tom's Watch par We need

Two lifelong Houston sports guys named athim Talking your Teams, Adam Clinton and
Adam Wexler are the team A Hournumber two underway here on Sports Talks seven
(46:07):
ninety. It is a Thursday editionof the A Team. As we mentioned
earlier, our last of the weekendstudio Tomorrow will be out at the original
location of Gallery Furniture, catching upwith Mac and Company out there at six
thousand and six forty five North Peentolto Parker. We will be out there
from three to six. But todayin studio talked a lot of Astros,
(46:29):
obviously, even though they are offtoday and they didn't help themselves out yesterday,
and that actually hurts even more todaybecause both teams ahead of them and
the standings lost both last night andhave already lost again today. So that
sucks. But there's nothing the Astroscan do about it now other than have
JV start the opener of this threegame series in Oakland against the A's and
(46:50):
then you know, maybe sweep themand take three out of four against the
Mariners in Seattle after that. I'mjust it's a scenario. It's the scenario
I'm putting out there. It couldhappen not but I hope it does as
they continue their quest towards five hundredat or maybe just after the beginning of
the calendar flipping to June. ButI said that I wanted to get into
(47:13):
a list of this segment, andI again, we bring up Pro Football
Focus from time to time, andI think I don't even know how your
feelings are about the entity that isPro Football Focus. You just have to
take it for what it is.It's not. I watch their game and
here's what I think it's. Rather, here's what the data I'm into in
putting into our formula suggests. They'regoing straight off of what they get from
(47:38):
how they evaluate a quarterback play inthis instance, or wide receiver play,
but off the teamline is the onethat I think sometimes people are like,
well, hang on a second,I don't know if I like that ranking
as a unit, you know,I mean, it's you don't have to
that's the thing. Do you believein how they put their process their formulas
together. That's what it comes downto. And I think they're assessment,
(48:00):
at least in the Texans case overthe last handful of years, is usually
pretty good. They usually grade outas a unit very good from a past
protection standpoint, and they usually gradeout as a unit and individually very poor
from a run blocking standpoint. Andthat is sounds accurate. That's definitely what's
been going on well in that vein, because obviously that's gonna be the The
(48:21):
Texans will likely be as good asnot only CJ. Stroud makes them,
but the line in front of himallows him. They will be as good
as new punter Tommy Townsend allows themto be Yes, wait what's his ranking?
They haven't done the punters yet.I'm sure PFF have some really really
interesting numbers to look at. TommyTownsend. He's got some guns, does
(48:44):
he? He does two tickets?I mean, if you want to go
to the gun show, I'm surehe'll get you an invite. All right,
So as it pertains to May twentythird, and again, this was
released a couple of days ago,but we're only talking about it now May
twenty third. The tiers, ifyou will, for the quarterbacks in the
NFL, and we'll just leave itat the top ten because it's kind of
(49:05):
a dichotomy here. I am happyin that they are, in my opinion,
respecting what STJ. Stroud accomplished inall of one season in the NFL,
which wasn't even all the games played. It was thirteen exactly. But
I'm also gonna be a little greedyhere. Now they have tiers. Okay,
so in the top ten tier oneis his own tier. It's Patrick
(49:27):
Mahomes. Nobody's gonna argue with this. If you do, go argue with
a wall, your mother, whatever. It's Pat Mahomes is it? And
until proven otherwise he should be it, he should be his own tier,
and he is the top quarterback.Blah blah blah. So we just forget
that. Let's go from two toon. Now. Spoiler alert, CJ's
(49:47):
at ten on this list. I'mjust gonna get right out in front of
it, because that's what the storyhere is. A that he's in the
top ten, which is a goodthing, but B I think there's guys
ahead of him that probably shouldn't befrankly, and the only reason they are
is because he's a rookie coming intohis second year. In my opinion,
Well, it's not that's not it'sbased on I don't want to say.
(50:10):
Yeah, it's based on numbers. It's based on a statistical evaluation. You
might not agree with how they putit together, and that's probably more accurate.
And especially when you consider who theyare, you know, the quarterbacks
in between he and Pat Mahomes theeight other quarterbacks. Well, when when
that list includes Justin Herbert or JalenHurts, And again, can you add
(50:35):
additional points for being this versus that? I mean, Lamar Jackson's number two
and he clearly is not an elitethrower. Of the football. He's still
exceptional, He's still very good, but I would rate other players as better
throwers of the football. But Ithat's not all quarterback play is about.
Quarterback plays about running your offense, scoring points out playing the other team's defense,
(50:58):
and winning. And that is whereLamar Jackson, even statistically with numbers,
is as elite as being number twosuggests. The list runs Jackson,
Burrow, Allen. Those are theonly three in what they call the second
tier, the elite, Jackson,Burrow, and Josh Allen. And I'll
keep in mind of the top twenty, there's Pat Mahomes and two other quarterbacks
(51:24):
who even have a Super Bowl ring. Like all these quarterbacks are getting ranked,
and here's her. Here the bestquarterbacks currently NFL in the NFL,
and basically none of them have wonexcept for Mahomes. Rogers has a ring
and it was forever ago and wasn'twith this team, and then Matt Stafford
late in his career with the teamhe's playing for now has one. Borrow
(51:45):
has an appearance. Yeah, there'sa couple guys, you know, Hurts
has an appearance. There's a coupleguys that have an appearance. But when
Russell Wilson's outside the top twenty.Well, again, that list leaves you
with just two other guys. That'show dominant he's been, and that's how
young. So to speak, thisgroup of here, the next great quarterback.
Saw all these veterans that have beenplaying eight, nine, ten,
eleven years, they're not in thisgroup. Stafford's like the only one of
(52:07):
them. And he and Aaron Rodgersare at seven and eight. Dak is
at six. That's the problem.Ausin Herbert is at five. And I'm
telling you as we get closer toNovember eighteenth, and I really think this
is gonna bear itself out, notonly here in Houston, but in Dallas,
I'm sorry, Arlington where they playtheir home games, Dak Prescott.
(52:30):
And you know what's funny about this. Steven A. Smith and Ryan Clark
had an exchange about this very thing, and Ryan Clark just out and out
said it. He said that Cowboysfans want to be Texans fans right now
because they already know what's about tohappen. He's already calling it. He's
calling a disaster Cowboys season. Well, I don't think it's going to be
a disaster, so don't be outin the regular season, but it could
(52:52):
easily match their postseason disaster. Whathe's saying, I think in the simplest
form, look at all the greatteams the Cowboys have had for a long,
long time. Anything after Troy Aikman, Where did they get their quarterback
from late rounds? Random? Wherever? Where did Tony Romo go to school?
Again? Eastern Illinois? Right? And Dak and a long time as
(53:15):
a very good NFL starting quarterback, one of the best. And Dak went
to Mississippi State. He's a middleround pick and he has he's a very
he's going to those ninth year asa very good NFL quarterback. Right.
Both are classic regular season stockpile winsand spectacular flame out playoff loss his quarterbacks.
Still, yeah, it's true. The difference being where did the Texans
(53:36):
find their quarterbacks the two that they'vefound in the last ten years, Well,
they drafted them. One of themthey traded up to draft and Deshaun
Watson and his time near the topwas short lived. And c J.
Stroud and his time near the topis super short lived. He's only been
an NFL player for one year, but the hype surrounding his arrival, the
hype surrounding his first season, andthe games they were playing in at the
end of their college careers. Well, one was a champion and the other
(53:59):
one was there near the top ofthe list. But these and these quarterbacks
for the Cowboy they don't have thatright. Dak Prescott is joining the Cowboys.
I can't wait to see what hedoes whenever he gets a chance.
Tony Romo's on the Cowboys. Oh, that's nice. Maybe he'll have an
opportunity to play some. Sean Watson'sjoining. Well, when we get rid
of Tom Savage as the starter afterthe first half, Bill O'Brien, you
(54:21):
idiot, I hate him more thanlonger he's gone. I know nobody sees
it this way, but Savage wentout there and it was a savage beating
for thirty minutes. He started toseize, and then Deshaun Watson took the
same beating for thirty minutes. Yeah, but then next week they gave up
only seven points to the Bengal sotheir loan touchdown plus a couple of field
(54:44):
goals was enough to win. Andthen he was decent, and then he
liked to get massages. And nowwe have CJ. Stroud. It's great.
I wish it had only taken thatlong instead of the years that it
took to get here. Yeah, some of the details on why things look
good for certain quarterbacks and maybe notfor others is worthy of diving into a
little bit, probably worth noting ifyou listen to some of the names I
just said. The best quarterback froma winning standpoint in the NFC currently ranks
(55:07):
thirteenth. That's brock perty. Allthey ever do is get good quarterback playing
win football games and score points, and their system, their numbers suggest he's
not quite as good as Trevor Lawrence. Ooh, well, the two biggest
problems I have that are ahead ofCJ are obviously DAK and the other one
(55:28):
is justin Herbert Because if this isbased on numbers, right right, so
it's not Bob Analyst and six otherpeople at ESPN, CNNSI let's turn it
to the clock back a little bit. CBS Sports and Sports Talk seven ninety
have compiled their list. It's notone of those lists because if it was
one of those lists, CJ's nottenth. That's true, he's better,
(55:49):
that's true. That's true. Butagain I just I feel like, Okay,
if we're putting the cart ahead ofthe horse with CJAN and we're giving
him too much luck, he's draggingthe horses. Well, that's what I'm
saying. Like, I feel likethere's a better scenario that unfolds where CJ
lives up to or exceeds the hypein his sophomore season versus Justin Herbert or
(56:10):
Dak Prescott doing anything of consequence. And the only reason I would say Justin
Herbert has an asterisk on that statementis because they just hired a really good
head coach of NFL caliber while wipingout the players that he throws the football
to and replacing with new ones.Yeah, I mean that's gonna have to
go into this thing. Is thisis bleep or get off the pot season
(56:30):
for Justin Herbert? It really is, and it really is for Dak too.
But the Cowboy's gonna be doing that. It truly is for Dak.
He's in a walk here. Yeah, I really need to see this spectacular
flame out for the Cowboys because it'sgonna set them back. If you gotta
get a new quarterback, it's gonnait just will you just it's it's just
the way it goes, and theTexans fans don't want to hear about it.
(56:52):
They don't care, they don't feelsorry for it or anything. All
Right, when we come back,we're gonna do what we always do on
Thursdays around this time. We're gonnabit deal and you know, basically,
have someone else or some other person'sshow on the station do our work for
us. Who that is? Whatbit we're stealing? You'll find out next
(57:13):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexlor. TheA Team now continues a little help over
the Humped with some Wednesday BS bitstealing with the bit stealers, better known
as I Gotta Take the sitcom awhole bunch of it The A Team.
You stole My Moves six A segmenttime we do the season every day on
(57:37):
the A Team. Around four twenty, Cody Bellinger, we're here. He
would enjoy this, but he's goingto on A Let's see. I know
it says, because I put itin there. I guess we're doing it
today. Let's see what happens whenwe spin the wheel. Flight of the
(58:12):
fact that almost none of our showwas taken over by the Astros. Yesterday
we bumped Wednesday's BS two today, and it looks like by this music we
will be reacting very mildly to things. Do we need to sing like Matt
does? Of course, of coursenot. Again, this isn't the Matt
Thomas showy. Oh, let's goas much as he talks about us,
(58:34):
we got to scale it back. How much we talk about him, I
think, don't you, I don'tknow seven ninety he is obsessed with us
exactly, So let's just leave itthat way. We should have a hot
key and anytime he talks about us, we grab that audio and then we
play Rachel McAdams saying why are youso obsessed with me? On Mean Girls?
Yeah, if we were going torepeat everything that he did, I
would have to really put some effortinto that. And again, if the
(58:58):
wheel gets spun, that means I'mnot aware of what's coming. So there
was no prep time for me toknow the words to some song that he
sings during one of his bits.Well, I kind of already did this
today. I overreacted. You realizethat if you just want to take it
at face value, the Astros gainground in a division on their day off.
That's the positive way of looking atit, but the Astros overreaction way.
(59:19):
It would be like, well, you could be closer. You just
won those two games against the Angels, and you're overreacting and you're what about
the other twenty six that's see Andthat's what you would say to somebody else.
That's what I would say, becauseagain, I it matters how far
back there. It matters when theyget past the Rangers and get past the
Mariners. It does, but they'reprobably not going to win the division with
(59:40):
a seventy nine and eighty three record. It is. It's mathematically possible,
but it's really really unlikely. Theyhave to continue to play really good baseball,
which they've actually done. If you'rein fifteen out of twenty four games,
which they've done fifteen and nine, and that's roughly half the season,
if all you do is rep peatthat in the next twenty four games,
(01:00:01):
and the next and the next andthe next, until you're done with the
season, you're a ninety two winteam based on where you would sit right
now. Isn't that crazy? Thatis going to most likely, I cur
indeed, but most likely going toput you in the postseason. I would
say it that way. I dothink it would win the division. I
think ninety two and seventy will winthe division this year, and maybe less,
(01:00:22):
which is what won it last year. Correct was seventy two, So
I do think yes, that wouldget them there. But that also means
what you're doing you can't fall backfrom. You can't have series where oh,
well, we won a few gamesbefore that, so we have a
we have a cushion. There's nocushion. They needed those wins over the
Angels because they started seven to nineteen. They need these sweeps. They still
(01:00:44):
have just the one. You're fiftygames into the season, you thought you
were going to win the division, you had the highest win total in the
American League, and you've played fiftygames and have won one series of longer
than two games in a sweep onetime. How about the fact that if
you did what you just said andyou get to ninety two wins, then
(01:01:05):
after everything that's happened, you technicallyhad a better regular season than a year
ago when you made it to Gameseven of the ALCS. It should also
be noted going fifteen to nine, that's not easy. No, it's an
accomplishment that you want to now showthat you can continue repeating. So,
yes, the overreaction would probably besomething that you know, I mentioned the
Nationals, I mean media. Therewas a little spot on one of the
(01:01:30):
baseball programs on the Baseball Network MLBNetwork after you know, Brian Kenny had
invited the Yeller and the I'm fullof myself to talk to each other.
And when they were done with thosetwo, they brought Rob Parker on,
who, like I said earlier, you hear from time to time right here
on our very station. And hewas asking him, Okay, I know
you said the Astros aren't getting itdone. But as they put up the
(01:01:52):
standings and they were twenty two andtwenty eight, was before the results of
the two afternoon games, can yousay that maybe it's time to turn around
that statement. Do you feel likethe Astros can make this happen? He's
like, no, the Astros arenot a good team. It's not gonna
happen this year. They're still nota good team. They're not winning at
home, they still have a losingrecord there. They can't win at home.
(01:02:14):
Like he'd already lost me because Isaw who the guest was. But
then when he said that this iswhy you gotta pay attention or you will
overreact to something that's no longer inplace. Do you remember what their record
was to start their home campaign atits worst? You know, they lost
four games right out of the gate. At its lowest point, they were
two and nine. Yeah, sowhat are they now at fourteen and fifteen?
(01:02:37):
Since then, they're twelve and six. So more than half of the
home schedule says they're twelve and six. So even if you were just reading
box scores, which he clearly is, you could still deduce they're not a
bad baseball team. They might notbe going just saying as we sit here
today, they're under five hundred athome. But if you think they can't
(01:02:58):
win at home, if that teamis going to reappear, the seven to
nineteen twenty twenty four Astros is goingto reappear, then you're right. Then
there's they're hoes. They can't winat home. They're not going to be's
to begin with, was because ofinjuries. You have to factor that in.
The Only thing I would say tothat is you're only talking about half
the team. They half, yeah, but the other half other than Chaz
(01:03:22):
could not have been more healthy.Bregman missed three games with an illness.
Nobody else missed even a single gamedue to injury. They've had rest days,
but they've been totally capable of startingand playing every other game the whole
season. They've been remarkably healthy offensively, while like too many other teams,
(01:03:45):
remarkably unhealthy and getting better on thepitching side. Like every time I tune
into any game, or watch anAstros game, or listen to an Astros
game, inevitably the opponent is oneof the two teams they've just been through,
just a rash of pitching injuries. The next it's that Garrett Cole throws
this season will be the first forone of the best teams in the American
League. So everybody's dealing with it. So watching some Yankees baseball today,
(01:04:09):
He's set to throw for the secondtime this week and is making progress towards
his scheduled June return. They're gonnawin it all, baby, I can
just see it. You'll never guesswho Chris Russo thinks is gonna win the
American League. Pennant, Oh,it's got to be Baltimore, right,
definitely loves not New York Yankee baseball. Did he scream when he said it.
(01:04:29):
He was loud. He's always loud. Is there something else in particular
we should be overreacting to, likeCJ. Stroud being tenth on any list?
But again I told you why weshouldn't be over reacting to Dashtro's overreactions.
So you can do toos texansactions.Oh okay, I mean sure,
we're not the ones who co hoststhe Matt Thomas Show, so we're not
familiar with all the lingo. Imean we listen a lot, but it's
(01:04:53):
we don't know everything about it.Here's an overreaction. When is Matt Thomas?
When is the Matt Thomas Show gonnaput both hosts in on the show?
I'm overreacting to that right now.I think it means change the show
name. We have four shows, half of them do that and half of
them don't. Yeah, we're theA Team. We're diplomatic in that.
Well, both of our names startwith A. But so we're on the
(01:05:16):
billing together. Well, we alsosay the A Team with Adam Wesler and
Adam planton as Next up is StanNorthfleet and Chris Gordy, and then you
have the Matt Thomas Show on theShawn Salisbury Show that have other people on
as we should be saying, andthe Kansas City Chiefs said at the podium
yesterday, everybody doesn't have to bethe same. It's okay, we all
have differences. It's okay. Weneed to learn to uplift each other.
(01:05:38):
And we do like we get thelast chance to uplift everybody because we come
on last each day before the Nightcap, which will be on again. I
was about to say, you justdownlifted? Were downlifting anybody? What was
the what would be the opposite ofuplifting down the pushing him through the ground
like six feet on? Which whatyou did? Anybody hosting the Nightcap?
Just now with that comment, youpushed down the dirt. Well, I
(01:06:00):
don't want to demean any of thepeople and anything negative about them, but
it's a only a regularly scheduled programon the nights where we don't have other
regularly scheduled programs. As someone yeah, as someone who once hosted that very
slot on this station when he firstgot here, I can appreciate that.
(01:06:23):
Well, when's my next show?I mean, we are the exclusive radio
home for two of the incredibly impressivesports teams in town, the Houston Rockets
and the Houston Astros. You goteighty five eighty six before playoff dates with
the Rockets when you include preseason andyou've got one hundred and sixty two plus
(01:06:44):
thirty plus postseason dates with the HoustonAstros. That's a lot of evenings with
non Oakland area start times that youneed non nightcap program. What a dumb
division that they're in. Hey,they're in the West, the American League
West, the Astros and the Rangers, by the way, which they are
located smack dab in the middle ofthe country. Somebody has to do it.
(01:07:09):
Well, there's a division called theCentral. Okay, so how do
you fill out the West if therearen't five teams in the West, Well,
don't call it that first of all, So they call it the Midwest.
But they're not. They're on theWest. Can't make everybody happy again,
I just feel like we're just makingLos Angeles happy or California happy.
(01:07:30):
Yes, we're giving them the divisions. What a gift. But no,
no, they're not even the goodLA team. But they took two out
of three from the Astros. Allright, we need to discuss something extremely,
extremely depressing when we come back.Hey, yo, uh, listen
to Sportstop seven ninety. You needdevice with our free iHeartRadio app. It's
(01:07:56):
free. Like a punch to thatface. Before we dive too far into
anything, we will want to remindyou to be listening closely. Appreciate those
of you who spent the last ninetyminutes listening to us, and the previous
one hundred and eighty listening to theMatt Thomas Show with Dan Matthews, and
the six hours prior to that whenthe Sewn Salisbury Show got you all started
here today. But over the nexthour, listen even more closely. Something
(01:08:18):
we say of importance we'll ask youabout in an hour with an opportunity to
send you to go see Sir mixa lot. So we've got tickets to
give away to that doing that overthe course of the week. So listen
up. Something will come up.We'll say something that will stick with you
or hopefully you can recall in aboutan hour, right around five point thirty,
(01:08:38):
when we'll ask you for that yetto be determined information. All right
here we go. We have knownthis was coming for a while in all
likelihood, at least the way it'sbeen talked about, discussed in the media
and otherwise, but here, andyou know, I just recently watched a
documentary that they did on the insidethe NBA Show, because I think,
(01:09:00):
you know, even though this islike a quote unquote NBA topic, I
think it supersedes that because that's thebest show, bar none, in sports
right now if you take everything intoaccount, and I'm going to include our
show, because you have to everytype of sports show out there, whether
it's a talk show on a ona radio station, whether it is you
(01:09:24):
know, studio coverage of whatever sportwe're always talking about. You know,
the turnover in the booths, theturnover on the sets, all of that
stuff's happening. It keeps happening. It keeps happening, and it churns and
churns. And they've just basically addeda guy here and there over the course
of what thirty years that this thing'sbeen going, since it's infancy, and
(01:09:45):
it was just Ernie Johnson essentially goingdown scores and then he and Kenny Smith
getting together and then oh, herecomes Charles Barkley, fresh off his forced
retirement from the Rockets because it's quadexploded, trying to get a rebound to
the point where they added Shack andit was super uncomfortable and unlikable and unwatchable
for a while there, and thenhe kind of came into his home and
(01:10:06):
they just got another Emmy. Theyhad the trophy on the set the other
night. Yep, them and GregOlsen, well and Draymond had many others.
Straymond had no business being there whileI mean, come on, dude,
the Emmy that you won while hewas a part of like none of
the shows essentially, and he's sittingthere like acting like he was a part
of it somehow just by being there. I thought that was weird. But
(01:10:27):
whatever, There's a there's a lotof factors at play. Obviously money's at
the top of the list. ButI just I can't help but think the
NBA or ironically, you know,Commissioner Silver, somebody like, you've got
to keep this thing going somehow, and I don't know how you do that,
but the inside the NBA is gonnago away because the network that runs
(01:10:54):
it was outbid by a network thathas more money or in this case isn't
in forty billion dollars in debt.I just can't help but think that's just
an awful way for this to end. It's like, it's an unnecessary way
for this to end. It shouldn'thave to happen. It shouldn't happen.
It was going to end right whenErnie retired, maybe and maybe not even
(01:11:15):
then. Well then if it wasgoing to change, then that's all that's
going to happen. Now it mightjust really change. It would end because
the four principal parts wouldn't be apart of it. I know it's hard
to say and hard to even thinkthat way, but you know, I
think there's a ton of appreciation forwhat it is, which is why it's
so hard to let it go.It's it's not only has it been very
good, it's been on forever.Like that's maybe the biggest hard to believe
(01:11:39):
part of it at all, thata show like this could stay so closely
anchored with so many of the samepeople for such a long period of time,
and because of who those people are, specifically Charles, it continues to
be highly entertaining. Like they aredoing a basketball show, which everybody associated
with the NBA wants them to doand help promote the game with how they
(01:12:02):
do it, and one of thesegments that they do is how dumb is
our analyst about basketball? Right?Hey, Charles, who does this guy
play for? Hey Charles, whodoes this guy play for? And it
works? Yeah? And that's whyI can't believe duplicate it because can you
imagine trying to recreate someone who clearlyisn't fully totally on top of everything that
(01:12:23):
he can't sit there and yell aboutit for an hour every day on a
talk show. But he's himself. It's it's the personalities that make it work.
And it's not impossible to find newones. It's just unlikely. And
here's the thing. I'm not eventhis isn't even about NBC. We're gonna
get round Ball rock back. Greatif you heart to Michael Jordan Playasketball Night
in America is coming. That isso lame already. The name's lame.
(01:12:46):
You just like because again, whenyou watch Football Night in America, Eh,
the booth's fine. I guess forthe games, it's always gonna be
a good matchup. I could takeor leave that studio show and the time
I leave it because they're like everyother studio show, right, they're serious,
right, this isn't They're unlike everyother studio show. They're not why
(01:13:09):
I'm constantly trying to throw your blanketin the dryer. Wex No, in
all seriousness, can you make thiswork? Can you be happy with this
program moving forward on a new networkwith a new host if the other three
are there? No, just oneof them, two of them? Does
it have to be all three?Because it doesn't seem like it's gonna be
all you just got Charles. Juststart working with other guys. Yeah,
(01:13:30):
but that's the thing, how workingwhere and under what regulations? Well,
that's the other small part of itis. I do think the network execs
that work at NBC Splash Peacock willfeel differently than those that work at Warner
Brothers NBC. Oh, you meanthe home of ms NBC with all of
(01:13:51):
their entertaining shows, or thinking moreover the air versus cable. No,
I know, I know what you'resaying. But what I'm saying is the
just the content itself. You're talkingabout Charles Barkley being able to be Charles
Barkley. No effing way a networkthat has those networks I just rattled off
(01:14:12):
is gonna let him do that becausethey're constantly obsessed with the wrong thing,
which is being politically correct twenty fourto seven. I hate it and everybody
else does too. And that's whythis show has been as successful as it
has because, yeah, you cansay, oh, that's Charles being Charles,
and you know, some people thatare going to really get their pantings
in a lot about are gonna beoffended that that's the case. But it's
like that's also why they like, that's the dirty little secret about this all
(01:14:34):
those people that are upset about whathe's like he just said about the WNBA
and all these players are upset athim about that, supposedly, even though
I don't really know who they areor what he you know, I don't
even know who he was talking about, because it feels like all of them
are okay, just fine with CaitlinClark. It's people outside the WNBA to
have a problem with her, whateverit is. But like that kind of
(01:14:54):
stuff right there, Could you imaginethat on NBC, Like, let's just
say they hire it at some point, could any of these execs you're talking
about start to realize, Man,everybody does nothing but talk about this show
all day, every day, allbasketball season long. Maybe that's a good
thing, and even not during thebasketball season because if one of them does
something, it makes news because they'repart of that successful show. That's probably
(01:15:16):
where you're gonna be completely impossible shackas a public figure, a celebrity,
very hard to replace somebody with thatmuch recognition, correct, Charles same,
Kenny's little less recognized, but notnow because of the show. Like what
former NBA player, what current NBAanalyst in some any form is even close
(01:15:38):
to the answers. I'm not askingyou for an answer. There is no
answer, Like the top three arethese three. There's not a Grant Hill
that even registers at all on thisskime. Nothing that ESPN has right now.
I mean it is, it's thisside of a it's an abomination,
actually, I mean they have somany guests, hard for some people to
say who they really have. ButRichard Jefferson, Kendrick Perk, jj Reddick,
(01:16:00):
Austin Rivers is part of the familynow and now is making his way
through because of the comments he madeabout NBA versus NFL players, has been
on a little bit more. Thoseare among their Tim Legler among their most
Jay Williams most prominent former NBA playerssaid, though though he's complete. They're
just like part, like these guyswere talking about Tim Legler's like, Hey,
I wanted to talk more about thePacers in these meetings with executives and
(01:16:23):
they're like, ah, like that'sproof that what we all say all the
time is true. Well, wedo see inside the NBA like this last
week, Kendrick Perkins was talking abouttheir content in the very same way that
Charles on TNT was talking about theircontent, different person both with the same
last name. Right, they're saying, why are we continuing to talk?
(01:16:45):
But there is a real they're actuallywrong. Yeah, but the fun people
still are clamoring for this nonsense. But the part the Ramona Shelbourne retorted with
was because they were talking about LebronJames. What team does he played for?
Who she best? He's with theowner of the team, Like it's
so obvious, and like that's whatPerkins was saying. He actually scootered his
chair back from the set and justburied his head in his hands because he
(01:17:08):
couldn't believe that they're sitting there havingto talk about the fact that a team
might draft Bronny James just so theycan keep Lebron. They they have no
business taking him because guess what, they're gonna suck with Lebron and then when
he leaves, they're really gonna suck. That's what Perkins probably wanted to say,
but he can't because the ESPN's inbed with him. And that's just
the last thing we need is thatwe're gonna get rid of the good thing
(01:17:29):
the NBA has from an analytical studioshow standpoint, and we're gonna get more
ESPN, which is so offul Idon't even tell you every the people that
talk about the NBA right now aretwo enthasies the two that are in bed
with them ESPN, ABC and TNT. Yeah, but TNT actually makes the
people that are watching them think,oh, we're not actually watching a show
(01:17:50):
that is being dicta dictated by theleague. They're in bed with ESPN.
That's absolutely what you think. Hey, we've got a show playing tonight.
Just wanted to run the by.If your executives have a chance this afternoon
to take a look at it,we'd love that, so we could go
ahead and move forward and start creatingsome of the graphics and let our hosts
know what the topics are today.Just whenever you get around to it.
(01:18:10):
I know it's busy there at thenetwork, but we'll just sit back and
wait for your call, you know. And I'm serious when I say this.
I don't think ESPN as crazy asthis sounds, in light of what
it used to be. I don'tthink they can handle Charles Barkley. They're
used to be Dan and Keith.I know, look at what Keith's doing
these days. He's a crazy persons. All he does is yell at people
(01:18:31):
from his balcony. But that hasn'tnetherhing to do with what he was then.
He wasn't that. But the reasonwhy, yeah, no, he
wasn't. But the scary thing isthat network has completely changed, and I
just don't think it. Charles Barkley'sgonna be in the principal's office every day
in there, and it's not gonnabe like all haha, funny, Like
they're gonna be like, you can'tdo this. He's gonna leave himself after
(01:18:56):
like a year there. That's whatI really feel is gonna happen. I
don't know. I just feel likethe executives at TNT just I don't know.
I know that money's involved. Iknow it's a big part of it.
But how you let that just endwhen it just doesn't have to.
I just don't get it. Allright, That's all I got except for
this Primeway Federal Credit Union. It'snot all they've got. They've got a
(01:19:18):
lot of reasons for you guys tosign up with them right now at PRIMEWAYFCU

They're going to throw that all yourway, twenty four to seven, roadside

(01:20:25):
primeway FCU dot com. Back toAdam Clinton and Adam Wexler the eighteen on
Sports Talk seven ninety where Rockets andAstros play and Real Texan's talk when they
beat up the copy or what arethey playing? Not that song? I
believe it's called still Okay? Andif Dan found a clean version there,
(01:20:47):
no, that's not even we don'twant to hear it. It wouldn't be
Yeah, it'd be like, waita second, the chorus alone probably wouldn't
be a good song to play onthe new Nbcpacock version of Inside the NBA.
I'm sorry, I've been wanting roundBall rock back for well and now
that it's gonna happen, you've turnedbecause it's a sign that we're not getting
(01:21:09):
the other thing, which is waybetter than the theme song. So just
quickly try to wrap on this.Charles Barkley made an appearance on the Dan
Patrick's show, and he's a regularguest there. He's obviously afraid to speak
his mind on his own platform,on his television stations, wherever else he
is as a guest, including onthe radio TV. I've interviewed him before,
and that's why he's so good. That's why we're so hesitant to look
(01:21:31):
forward to a new program if itdoes not include him. And he was
displaying that unabashed ability to say hisspeak his mind about his own bosses on
the Dan Patrick Show. You know, we're just sitting back waiting on these
people to figure out what they're gonnado. You know, you know my
two favorite wines are angel Nook andOpus. And these clowns I work for
(01:21:57):
they've turned us into Ripple and Boonezebomband done the bird like we got the
best studio show. We won.We just and it's so funny. We
just want the best studio show. But these foods turned us from Englandook and
Opah's entered Damn Booze Farm and Ripple. It's crazy. Okay, I'm not
a drinker, especially of wine.By talking about really really good and somewhat
(01:22:18):
expensive, high quality wines to bottomtwo the ones that if you're between the
ages. I know it's under ageseventeen and twenty two and at frat party
college maybe again earlier than that. You probably have the items he was talking
about. Were any of those boxedwines? Not really? I mean,
(01:22:39):
what's the commercial one that everybody knowsit starts with an F? I think
phronsia maybe? Is that it?That's it? Okay, Yes, Spoon's
farm is quite well known by theyouth of America that drink. Okay,
he's right, Well, that's againwhy you're saying, why do they have
to do this? And I saythe same thing, And we've kind of
discussed the reasons why. Part ofit is it doesn't seem like this would
(01:23:02):
be the case, but it isbasically because of earning. And I'm not
blaming him, but if he sayshe doesn't want to leave, he's not
gonna leave. So right there,in and of itself, it's gone.
But is there really actually no scenariowhere if you pay these people, these
hosts, and maybe also pay someof the staff, the crew, the
executives, the producers and directors ifnecessary, to help bring the show like
(01:23:27):
it is or close to like itis, is it simply it can't happen
because the people you talked about willdo not want that. Did you not
want to bring that over? Danactually submitted that theory to Charles because Charles
is actually considering his course. Heis he likes to get paid handsomely,
and he would. He has aten year deal that's nowhere near ending.
(01:23:49):
He has outs, but he haslots of outs, also a better out
than unfortunately the Greg Olsen out whereif he got bumped to off the number
one team, a salary goes fromten million to three million, which is
what's happening, as he also earnedan Emmy for his work. Wow,
Tom Brady is cold blooded man.Now he's doing it in broadcast. Well,
(01:24:10):
I'm sure. I mean, Iknow there will be games before the
regular season, but maybe he'll saveit for the regular season. When Greg
Olsen does his first game, hecertainly has to have some sort of roast
related line about what Tom did tohim, because it's not personal and he
didn't do it to him. ButI'm sure he'll deliver something like that in
a funny way. I mean, blood Steed is gonna be hard to top.
I mean, well that was ata roast. If Greg Olsen was
(01:24:30):
at the Roast team. I'm surehe would have had some really good writers
come up with some really good stufffor him. We've got we've got a
lot to get to that we haven't. Football at five is on deck,
but we still need to get toScottie Scheffler. We need to get to
a number of things in the fiveo'clock hour. And yes, Trey,
you're correct, I don't want tosee a Charles Barkley Rachel Maddow interview about
(01:24:51):
the fat women in San Antonio. You're right, because she would ruin it
like she ruins everything else. Soyeah, five o'clock hour coming up next,
two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adamtalking your teams. Adam Clinton and
Adam Wexler. Are the A team? A team? You're not a bustle
(01:25:16):
footballs. It's five o'clock. Somefive o'clock football. Professional footballs in America
is a special game. You knowwhat I want to talk about during Football
at five. That's something that actuallypeople might get to get get to hear
(01:25:36):
from in the future. No way, well, depending on we you know,
no bean spilling here. We're nottea, but sometimes the future people
may get a handle on that mentionedon the Texan side of things, that
o TA Week one came to itsconclusion this week. They'll do it again
next week. First week in June. We'll see. I'm gonna say if
(01:25:59):
the there's ninety players on the roster, and there should be, that we're
going to see minimum eighty seven peopleaccounted for visually at Texans mandatory mini camp
coming up that first week of June. It's voluntary this week, it's voluntary
next week. As I mentioned earlierin the week, just because you see
a report that so and so wasnot practicing, which is accurate, it
(01:26:24):
doesn't mean they're not there participating inexactly the way they need to be.
And I mentioned Titus Howard for instance, and I'll again mention that today because
they practiced this week and he wasn'ton the field for it when we were
out there. And I know fora fact because I saw him. He
is at the facility. He isdoing the work necessary, I think,
to prepare him for the upcoming season. And he's any example I use with
(01:26:45):
him, I could use with anynumber of the players that might not have
been there for the on field activities, and this is league wide. Those
things happen. A report today fromAdam Schefter on the other side of things,
with the Arizona Cardinals coming to anagreement with their first round pick and
as I said, with the Texansdraft picks, none of them in the
first round. I wish this wasfrom a media standpoint, this was always
(01:27:09):
something to follow. It just doesn'texist anymore. Every single first round pick
is going to be signed, sealed, and delivered and need be there for
every moment of every practice there isfor the next four years. It's just
not like it is anymore. Andit's really to me, it's good for
everybody. I don't think having noSam Bradford like contracts out there is bad
for anybody. You know, thefive or six people that took advantage of
(01:27:31):
that, the number one overall picksthat were no talents, that got all
this guaranteed money, well they stillget a tremendous amount of guaranteed money,
just not at that rate. Justnot at the welcome to our team,
You're the highest paid player you've neverplayed before. That's not really good for
the league, and the Union thankfullyagreed, so they have a little bit
better way of doing things, butit's still good news for Bird Gang guy
(01:27:54):
than Marvin Harrison Junior is in placeand ready to go. We brought up
PFF earlier, and I teased somethingin the very open of the show about
something where the Texans honestly should lookbetter than any other team in the league
based on a certain group of players. PFF put out their top wide receivers,
(01:28:15):
they put out their top quarterbacks.Where we sit here at this point
in the offseason, so subject changesthings move forward, but from a PFF
standpoint, for the most part, they don't change, because these are all
based on what they saw on thefield last year or something they think they
can translate if it's a college playerwe're talking about to next year. They
put out a list also of thetop three players for each team. When
(01:28:40):
I first read that headline, Iwondered two things, And the second of
those two things is the much morefun one. I wondered, Well,
who are the Texans top three?According to PFF. It's fun in that
regard because they're good, So whodo you think the top three are?
And it immediately made me think,do you realize how awful this would be
talking about the twenty twenty one Texans? Oh? My god, the twenty
(01:29:02):
twenty two texts. Could you getthree players just two seasons ago? Last
year you had enough players where youcould put yourself together a three player list
that wouldn't be so embarrassing. Thoughone of those players might not have taken
a snap, maybe two, butin name, they certainly had a better
roster. Even if Will Anderson andCJ. Stroud had not come aboard the
(01:29:23):
twenty twenty one and twenty two Texans. It's you know, one player would
have been on the list both years, and it would have been Laramie Tunsel.
He might even be on the listthis year. And that's pretty much
it. And that's how bad theywere, and it was very indicative of
who they are. I'll give youa quick option to guess who those three
players are, and then I'm gonnatell you why it's app actually so important
that it is those three players inparticular, PFF lists the top three players
(01:29:46):
for each team. Who are thethree Texans? It's not Laramie Tunzel.
Though you said, I didn't sayone way or the other. H CJ
is obviously there. Uh Nico callwell this based on last year, just
have to answer the question and I'mnot giving you any more, all right,
I'll go CJ, Laramie and Nico. Okay, two out of three,
(01:30:12):
as Meatloaf would say, Laramie TonselPFF related rated numbers does not make
the Texans top three. The Texanstop three from a PFF standpoint. That's
pro football focused. By the way, Yeah, second year player CJ.
Strouds, second year player Will Andersonjunior, fourth year player Nico Collins.
(01:30:35):
Five years of NFL experience total fiveyears and two of the top three picks
in last year's NFL draft. Whythat is so important? Why this is
insane? How awesome this is.There's not a single other team, so
basically their experience second season, fourthseason, second season, so that's eight
(01:30:55):
total. There's not another team inthe NFL with our three player list that
gets under eleven with the experience. The Texans are at eight. Futures bright,
it's in, I'm blinded by it. Correct. Then the Laramie was
another player that could have made thelist obviously and just was on the outside
looking in. And another player whodid not make it as Derek Stingley Junior.
There is an asterisk a third seasonof experience. I mean these lists
(01:31:19):
for some of the other teams thatwe might most care about. We'll pretend
like the Texans aren't super awesome, and we'll only look at the teams within
their division. Remember, like Ikeep saying, these are ratings. They're
not someone's guesses on who he thinksthey are. These are based on the
numbers that they're produced by Pro FootballFocus. Indianapolis Colts, the team that
(01:31:41):
challenged them the most last year,a guy heading into his fifth season,
seventh season, and ninth season. So Anthony Richardson is not on their list.
Not on well, he barely played. How could his PFF numbers be
any good? He but doesn't haveany numbers to look at. He just
wasn't on the field enough to producequality enough according to their numbers that you
value. Yeah, but according toone of the Colt's own top linebackers,
(01:32:03):
Texans didn't have to play him twice. But again, this is why you
gotta take it for what it is. It's not really intelligent NFL person giving
you a list. By the way, it's based on their ratings. Before
you get to the Jags, theasterisk I was talking about, can anything
be better than that? Like theirname is the Jags. It's the best.
(01:32:25):
It's it's very appropriate. The asteriskI was talking about was that the
future is bright provided your quarterback doesn'tregress like the quarterback within the division.
So Jags Lawrence makes the list.Yeah, Fellow first round pick Travis Atn
makes the list. Fellow first roundpick Josh Allen makes the list, and
their experience levels relatively low. Allengot a massive deal because he's now heading
(01:32:47):
into his sixth year and at TNand Lawrence are still working on their first
round pick contracts, so you're headinginto your four and five, so it's
a little it's pretty young, butclearly the three that we're talking about with
Houston are much more desirable. AndI gave you the list that the players
for Indianapolis as I never gave thenames. Pittman Junior, who just got
(01:33:08):
franchise tagged and then got a seventymillion dollars three year deal to Forest Buckner
and Quentin Nelson are the three playersfor them. I was shocked when I
saw the three players for the TennesseeTitans. Would you like to guess any
of them? You probably could getone. If you're thinking about this offseason,
you probably would get another. Ifyou think about the best player on
(01:33:30):
their team. I think this isaccurate. Never get the other they signed.
They got Lugerius Sneed from the Chiefs. He makes the list. Okay,
that's and accurately so that he willbe in my opinion, he's going
to be their second best defensive playerbecause their best defensive player also makes a
list. That's Jeffrey Simmons. Didthey put They did not? But again,
what do you think is pff numberswere last year not great, so
(01:33:53):
thus he does not make the list. Geez, I don't know. I
couldn't. He's a former Houston Texanwide DeAndre Hopkins heading into season twelve,
because it's eighty one point seven overallgrade was the highest on their offense last
year outside of Derrick Henry, whois not a Titan. What year is
this for hop He's heading into yeartwelve. I mean at some point the
(01:34:17):
drop off is coming, right.Uh, it's hard, That's what I'm
saying. Like he's I mean, they just he just suched a different receiver
than he was the last year inHouston. I think was pretty well matched
by his first year in Arizona. And that was the plateau well that he
has not played. He two ofthe three seasons weren't full seasons, and
(01:34:40):
last year was a full season witha terrible offensive line, a terrible quarterback,
and he's thirty one. He's notthe same receiver. He wasn't a
great receiver because he was running bypeople and creating a great separation. So
that's actually a good thing for hisfuture because he can still make the catches
because he's so good with his hands, he's so good with his fighting skills,
which are legal. Then he canstill do some of those things.
(01:35:01):
Now you know why he was openlytrying to get back to Houston. So
there's also a reason why they addedTyler Boyd and added Calvin Ridley See and
Tyler Boyd could very well be onthis list next year if it goes well.
But it's not gonna go well becausehe plays in Tennessee. Now,
the teams that the Texans actually arecompeting with, because I don't care what's
(01:35:24):
going on in the division, rightthey care about the best teams in the
AFC, Chiefs, Ravens, Bengals. I think you can get any of
the Chiefs, correct. I mean, let's see it's really really this is
probably the easiest team in the league. Travis Kelsey and Chris Jones bingo okay,
and that's almost thirty years of experience. Joe Burrow. Oh my gosh,
(01:35:45):
who's their number one receiver? Whyam I drawing to blank? So
correct name? Jamar Chase smart Chase. I had Tyler Boyd on the brain.
Uh, okay, Joe Burrow,Jamar Chase and is a defensive player.
Trey Hendrickson, their defensive lineman, their addresser, who is phenomenal.
That's a really good well, JoshAllen. That's all I got, that's
what they've turned him into. Now. Matt Mlon has been a pretty good
(01:36:06):
player. He's on the list also, and Greg Russo, who is on
their edge into his fourth season.Without all the departures and the changes,
he would never make this list, but he's been good. Lamar Jackson.
The other two players are defensive players. So no Derrick Henry, Yeah,
no, I did, but Iwas gonna say they're they're wide out,
(01:36:27):
they're rookie whiteout. Last year,Zay Flowers is really really good and I'd
have to look to see how goodhis PFF numbers Number four he was not
listed among the also considered, sohe said least no better than six wow
also considered, as was Mark Andrews. But the two that made the list
are the player that the Bears gaveaway, who's unbelievable, Rokwan Smith still
(01:36:48):
can't believe how a team like Baltimorelands Rokwan Smith, and the player the
Texans probably should have been more interestedin in the draft when they had the
thirteenth pick traded back to fifth andCayle Hamilton went fourteen. He's the other
player. M I mean, honestly, they could have drafted the d tackle
that the Eagles took and I wouldhave been great too. And the player
(01:37:08):
they did take makes it hurt more. But it wasn't even about who they
did take. It's about who theydecided they did not love in both Davis,
the d lineman on the Eagles, and Hamilton, the safety who's listed
here for the Ravens. We're gonnahit a break here, but I can't
let you not guess who the Cowboysare. Oh my gosh. And these
(01:37:30):
are also very easy. This isone of the easiest. Wam yes and
Micah Parsons. Okay, it soundslike the Cowboys are good. Sounds like
it, then reality happens. Allright, it is the A team here
on Sports Talk seven nineties. Stillneed to get to in case you missed
it, Still need to talk aboutScottie Sheeffler, and a number of other
things we will get to before itis six o'clock here on Sports Talk seven
(01:37:53):
ninety. We now returned to AdamClinton and Adam Wexlworth on Sports Talk seven
ninety. All Right, a fewitems we either haven't talked about enough or
lately here on the show, orsome items we entirely have not had a
chance to get into worthy of yourtime in ours. It's in case you
(01:38:13):
missed it. What do we havetoday? All right, So we're gonna
start first with one of AC's favoritepeople, actually two sets of favorite people,
Rob Manfred, and umpires. SoRob Manfred, speaking earlier today,
asked about the possibility of robot umpiresbeing implemented in baseball in twenty twenty five,
said nope, not enough progress inthe minor leagues for them to come
(01:38:35):
to major league baseball in twenty totwenty five. Okay, hang on,
is that the exact quote? Doyou have a quote in front of you.
Do you have the SoundBite? Ijust need to know exactly what he
said before I light his ass onfire. I do not have the direct
quote, but that is a paraphrasingof what he said. Ye okay,
we still have some technical issues. We haven't made as much progress in the
(01:38:57):
minor leagues this year as we sortof hoped. At this point, I
think it's becoming more and more likelythat this will not be a go for
twenty five. You almost sounded asboring as he does when he talks.
You could hypothesize a world where insteadof a framing catcher who's focused on defense,
the catching position becomes a more offensiveplayer that alters people's careers. Those
(01:39:20):
are real, legitimate concerns that weneed to think all the way through before
we we jump off that bridge. And you can hypothesize a world where you're
not the worst commissioner in the historyof professional sports. I'm telling you right
now, having been at a minorleague game and seen it in action,
(01:39:43):
it's absolutely advanced ready and a hellof a lot more accurate than any umpire
that I will watch in any gameboth currently being played right now, anytime
the rest of the night, anytimethe rest of the season or any I've
seen before today, wouldn't you willat least acknowledge that you're not talking about
the same two things. No,Well, rope balls and strikes wex No
(01:40:04):
robo umps are umpires being real replacedby digital calls. But it's the same
principle. Challenge system is fixing thecalls that the challenge system based upon.
Yeah, totally accurate. It's definitelybased on the same That's what I'm saying.
The technology is. You cannot saythat the technology isn't advanced enough.
If you want to say that you'renot ready to phase out human beings because
(01:40:26):
of complications from a financial standpoint orall this kind of stuff, that's one
thing. But you cannot say ina sound bite with a straight face unless
you're that ass hat that the technologyis not advanced enough, because I've seen
it in action and it takes twoseconds to get a call right. Look,
you're talking about a call that's challenged. Yeah, you don't challenge a
call that's already right, right,But is the technology in place to the
(01:40:47):
point they're confident that the ball hitsthe catcher's glove and we're catching an immediate
call that gets to the umpire thathe can then make all those things.
Well, you're not able your technicalissues, you're not able to, but
you're not able to challenge something withoutthe technology to begin with. Because it's
clearly we all saw it on thebig screen out there at Constallation field.
(01:41:08):
What you're saying, I think hasto happen, and it should happen immediately.
That's the least a challenge system shouldbe in place next season, the
first game of the next season. Why wait, wex we we got rid
of a season changes? Why theygot rid of sticky tag? I like
that crying about it. Everybody livedin the world kept spinning. He did
all live that we would all livehere too. I mean, if you
(01:41:29):
implemented it starting June first, everybodywould be happy. Well everybody. There's
not one person that woul complain, not one maybe the IT guys who like
you, don'd third institute this systemin eight days. I will retract my
statement. One person would complain inhis name's Angel Hernandez because he would be
destroyed by reality. I'll see ifI can recreate this. I was on
(01:41:54):
one of the social media platforms uhTikTok and was scrolling through the super busy
today preparing for the show, butclearly got a couple of seconds of free
time and a woman was talking aboutsports, baseball in particular. She goes,
is your husband a big sports fan? Well, here's something I think
(01:42:15):
you can do in the future ifI remember this all correctly. If you're
ever in a big argument, youknow, you're arguing about something that he
thinks he just did immaculately, wellbrilliantly. If he's just convinced that he
did such a great job, likefilm Aton and Luis Garcia, and you're
looking at what he's done and you'rethinking to yourself, oh my god,
this is horrific. What you needto say to him is, honey,
(01:42:39):
you are the Angel Hernandez of doingdishes that is, I mean in the
pantheon. Because that would hit hard. Oh and he would get it.
Yep. Now you know the thingthat might be the most hurtful about that
scenario for him too, is thathe would know that you had taken the
(01:43:00):
time to delve into his world toresearch how to hurt you the most,
and then did it. Wow.Robellumps not. In twenty twenty five per
the commission, But you know,I think in twenty twenty six it could
be a possibility because that's a wholeyear. It's the stupidest thing ever.
This is so arbitrary, and they'rejust scared. I don't even know what
(01:43:20):
they're scared of. What are youscared of? Being right? That's what
it comes down to, trying tosee how it will impact catchers their livelihood
and framing. So said that veryimportant. Okay, so he's thinking that
getting the calls right will will affectthem negatively versus the calls being wrong.
We'll close the door on this topicwith one more quote from the idiot Rob
(01:43:44):
Manford. Yeah, the idiot Commissionerof Baseball. Originally, we thought everybody
was going to be wholeheartedly in favorof the idea. If you can get
it right every single time, that'sa great idea. One thing we've learned
in these meetings is the players feelthere could be other effects on the game
that would be negative if you useit full blown. Says the guy who
(01:44:04):
implemented the pitch clock. That's probablyhurting his starting pitchers. What else do
we have? All right, Soit seems fitting since we did astros overreaction
to the early guy, and alsotoo, since you just mentioned TikTok,
it is a TikToker Celeski who postedthis video. I don't know who they
are, but the video cracked meup and it's so fitting for what I
(01:44:26):
saw this earlier today and somehow didnot get it sent off to the two
of you. So I think thiswill probably be enjoyable to the listeners who
know the personalities on this show quitewell. All right, so it is
the reaction for your football team losing, as opposed to your baseball team losing.
Sor right, we'll get in nextweek. Do you flow that lead?
(01:44:51):
Do I? Hey this team? How is it that a starting pitcher?
We'll go in there, pit sixscoreless fittings and then every time some
gets up there in the seventh,it starts serving up people you're working out
of some shop. God, So, what does it sound like again in
(01:45:11):
an audio last week one of yourseventeen football games? What does that sound
like again? Damn it? Sorry, we'll get the next week. Okay,
yeah, that sounds about right. It's not accurate, but if it's
one of your one sixty two,you know, really tough to at the
yard. A two to one lossto the Angels, you know, a
(01:45:32):
four to two loss to the Brewer, something like that. Then I can
understand the type of reaction we hearda little bit more demonstrative. What what
is what is the more demonstrative?Yeah, one of one's sixty two losses?
Sound like, yeah, the doyou flow that lead? God?
I hate this team. How isit that a starting pitcher? We'll go
in there, pitch six scoreless fittings, and then every time some gets up
(01:45:57):
there in the seventh it starts servingup people. Sub shop. God,
I feel pretty confident that sometime overthe next one hundred and twelve Astros games,
I will probably use that line man. That guy was throwing up meatballs
like he wears at a subshot.Do you know though, Like, do
you really think that? For example, Dallas Cowboys fans saw Jordan Love come
(01:46:19):
in and absolutely steal their girlfriends, and that's how they reacted. Now,
we'll get him next year. We'llget them next year. Yes, I
say, I mean next year asopposed to next week. It's different.
Just one of one of seventeen meansthere's just a run of the middle regular
season loss. We just came upa little short. So let's face it.
In the regular season, Dallas winsa lot when it doesn't really matter.
The Texans last year, they goto Carolina, they just come up
(01:46:41):
a little bit short to Bryce Young'sPanthers. We'll get him next week.
Bryce Young's Panthers. They can Bryce, You mean the Panthers defense, They
catch Desmond Ritters squad and the atland last second field all they come up
a little short and take the lWe'll get them next week. Do the
Jets. They go up to NewJersey to take on Zach Wilson's there you
go, and they just come upa little bit short by thirty points,
(01:47:04):
and they got their quarterback can cussedand he'll be gone for two more weeks.
Do we have anything else for incase you missed it. Yeah,
Greg Olsen, So he recently wonan Emmy and Fox Sports pr went on
Twitter and said, at Fox Sportsproudly congratulates at NFL on Fox analyst Greg
Olsen, recipient of Sports Emmy's Awardfor Outstanding Personality Events Analysts. As you
(01:47:29):
can imagine with the news that TomBrady is coming on to take his top
spot on the Sunday games with KevinBurkhart. People on Twitter started to react
and respond to said tweet, likeone guy at Nick Wilson says Tom Brady
gonna try to take this too,and Olsen also talking about losing the top
spot talking with Front Office Sports, saying his aspirations are to still be a
(01:47:54):
number one analyst, whether it's withFox or elsewhere. Yeah. I was
one of those people up until Iknow hit send. I think all I
wrote was and yet as a quotetweet to the Fox congratulating there recently demoted
from the A team, broadcaster GregOlsen, good to have you in the
booth. Check that Tom Brady, good to have you on the A team,
(01:48:15):
because that's what they just did tohim. And I didn't know until
I was today years old when Ifound out that he was actually losing seven
million over this. It's a shit. I mean, I his contracts written
up. I'd fire my agent yesterday, right. Maybe you could have done
it a little bit differently, butI understand where both sides were coming from.
But as your agent, your jobis to foresee Tom Brady retiring and
(01:48:39):
becoming the number one guy stealing yourmoney. The timing of when that happened.
Remember Tom signed that deal way inadvance, right, he was still
playing for Greg Olin's experience level asa broadcaster was pretty low. Well,
now he has an Emmy, Yeshe does. That's why I think Tom
doesn't have very good Again. See, you can find guys that are really
good from out of nowhere sometimes fora broad as for Winds, their next
(01:49:00):
ammy first Tom Brady or Greg Olsen. It's not as he it's not as
hard as you. It's not aseasy you think. I mean, I
can see them just saying, wellit's Tom Brady. Don't have to give
it to But what if he sucks? Hey, yeah, you in the
back. What do you have tosay. But he's worse than Tony Romo.
No, we don't have to giveit Tony has Tony won an Emmy.
Let's we'll check on that, allright. Wexler research on it under
(01:49:23):
their pay grade. Oh wow,you gave him all rays. I'm not
looking up Antonio Romo hardware. You'relike, they've got better things to do.
It's have a drink, it's happyhour, like the anti Foughts.
I'm sending the Wexler research team toTom's watch bar. They're not looking at
wasting their time looking up Tony Romoawards, not even his golf awards.
(01:49:45):
Well, if you send now thegolf that's being played right now, the
tournament this weekend, you can bewatching that at Tom's watch Live. You
get ready for the no the PGATours that starts on Thursday at the event,
and you can be watching all ofyour You can watch Mace and Miller
get absolutely ripped apart by the Rockiestoday right before the Astros catch the A's.
(01:50:05):
So guests who probably won't be availabletomorrow mentally fragile if he is,
be right there on the big screensover at Tom's Watch Bar right now.
So you're telling me that Tom's WatchBar has a lot to offer and you
can probably save money by going there, right Well, if you head on
over to the Green Streak Garage, you park in the garage, head on
over to Tom's, get your parkingvalidated. Hey, look there's the free
(01:50:26):
shuttle. I'm gonna hop on Tom'sfree shuttle and head on over to an
Astros game over at the ballpark whenthey are at home, both to and
from not to mention the buy one, get one drink specials. It is
the best deal in Astros baseball. So, like, if you're Greg Olsen
and you just got seven million dollarsripped from you and you're looking for ways
to save money, you're probably notgoing to an Astros game and wanting to
(01:50:46):
pay forty dollars parking. You're gonnasave some money and you use that shuttle
at Tom's Watch Bar because you're outof seven million dollars. Right now,
Downtown's ultimate sports bar. It's rightthere on the corner of Carolina and Polk's
twelve oh one at Caroline's great placeto enjoy all of the games. Right
there at Tom's Watch Bar set up. You see two Sports Talk seven ninety
(01:51:10):
on any device with our free atHeart radio app. To see that shot
stick that Houston Sports in my earholes. You know. The other reason
that JV's gonna bounce back, right, they're playing in the Astrodome without a
roof. I mean that place isit's got to be the biggest stadium still
(01:51:30):
left. Right, it is big. But you know this, and even
last year it does seem like you'reable to hit balls three hundred and eighty
ninety four hundred feet into the Youknow the walls are far. The height
of the walls in some places isnot standard heights. And you're still like
jose Brew homer there last year. It's first of his eighteen homers he had
last year. By the way,do you know we haven't even talked about
(01:51:51):
him yet. We don't need to. We'll do that the same. You
know how much more excruciating Bragman's popoutsare going to be in this series Stadium.
We'll see see if he's still inthe four spot and still if that
is how he is, I'm absolutelytrying to reverse jinx him because I love
him like a family member. Ilove Alex Bregman off the field as much
(01:52:11):
as I do on the field.I just I can't believe this. I
can't believe this, bleep. That'show I feel about this season with him.
I understand even if it meant okay, he is completely playing out of
Jim Crane's budget. That's air quoted. I just thought, for sure,
all right, he's got the seasonof his life. It's going to be
beneficial to the Astros, and he'llbe able to leave on top. Yeah,
(01:52:32):
it seemed pretty simple when we discussedman. He could price himself up.
Great that he's helping this year's too, that he is a part of
win. So the Space Cowboys arehome this weekend. They're playing Game two
or Game three of six against RoundRock tonight. Lineup card, of course,
is out for the Space Cowboys. And if you've been paying any attention
(01:52:53):
at all, you know that joseA. Brady was not in it.
Well, why would it be?He needs to go straight back to the
major so he can strike out there. He has already played today. It
was another FCL game for him, played his last what should be what is
expected to be his last Florida complex. What struck him out? Uh?
(01:53:14):
Well, I mean, I don'tknow why you got to be like that?
Why because it's accurate? It's not. I mean I thought I was
the mean one. I am themean one? Why because it's mean?
He's stealing twenty million dollars per year? Offered would you like this? Is
this something that happen for it though? That's the difference they What did they
ask him to do for it?Play baseball? Play baseball? Asked?
(01:53:39):
Answered, completed task, not necessarilyfor them. So yes, he was
in the lineup today and was battinglead off course, and he went one
for four and he reached base threetimes, reached on a fielder's choice and
an error. Those are both recordedas outs though for the batter. And
in the fifth inning of today's gameagainst the Florida Complex League Mets, he
(01:54:01):
was standing in the box and hewas facing a pitch from nineteen year old
Wilson Esterlin, and he hit itover the fence in fair territory for his
home run. So what you're sayingis, if we can just get Astro's
factory complex nineteen year old pitchers toface him every time, he should be
good to go seven to twenty twothree eighteen average ops nine twenty and he
(01:54:25):
had a couple of extra base hits, including the homer. We believe those
five games are the ones he willhave completed, his option to West Palm
Beach will be complete, and nexttime we see him playing should be at
Constellation Field during part of the remainderof their series with round Rock. By
the way, the round Rock teamthey're throwing Johnny Kuito tonight, who is
(01:54:46):
hoping to make his way back tothe majors. That's the Rangers system.
Yes, So if he did makeit back to the majors. It would
likely be with them unless leave. That's how it works. Believe he is
some sort of minor league deal withthem. Yes, by the way,
you were just talking about the RockiesA's game. Yeah, nine nine in
(01:55:06):
the eleventh. Okay, I wasjust making sure that my computer, which
is admittedly on its last legs uhoh, is caught up because it was
doing some funky things when you weregiving those score updates. It was way
behind. They've scored nine runs sincethe seventh, it's nine to nine in
the eleventh and they're still dotting,so they will be very well rested for
(01:55:26):
tomorrow's opener against the Astros over threegame set. Seriously, though, how
many pitches did Miller throw? I'mtrying to look at you, only through
twenty six pitches. He'll be readyto go by Saturday. Well, by
Saturday, at least you got himout of tomorrow's game. Well, if
you lose that game like you didthe last time, just made pitch.
Hey, I'm not going to sayhe's out for sure twenty so hang on.
Yeah, that's the thing. Didhe pitch the day before? No,
(01:55:46):
so he was fresh coming into thisouting when he gave up three earned
runs. Yep, he did havea strikeout though, and past one.
And I know and after all ofthat, his era is a smidge over
to ballooned to two oh five. What was it before? Not two o
five eight seven like a brave USbatting average it wash eight nine. But
(01:56:11):
whatever, whatever, whatever, it'spretty close, very close. All right,
when we come back, we'll wrapthings up here on a Thursday edition
of the program, but not beforeI tell you guys about one more time
why you are not doing what youneed to do, which is go to
PRIMEWAYFCU dot com and get the ballrolling on your best version of a checking

out there. Frankly, why wouldyou go with Primeway Federal Credit Union over
any of them? That's the questionyou're needing to ask me. Right now,
right, I'm about to tell youyou're gonna earn up to two percent
interest on your account. You aregoing to have so many extras thrown your
way, your head's gonna spind mobilephone protection, twenty four hour roadside assistance,
(01:56:57):
telehealth, travel and leisure discounts showingrewards and Oh, by the way,
the peace of mind and protection thatcomes with dark web monitoring. What
a sinister phrase, dark web monitoring. What happens to the dark web?
Who knows? Do you want itto happen to your checking account? Well?
Probably not. You want to havethem monitor that so that doesn't happen.
There's only one place I can guaranteeyou're gonna get that. It's primeway
(01:57:18):
FCU dot com. That's the websiteto go to open that account online with
a user friendly, easy online applicationlocated right there at primeway FCU dot com.
Get everything I talked about and somuch more with the best checking account

(01:57:39):
cleansing that Adam went for the afternoonteam covering your team rives this data center
fail. This is Sports Talk sevenninety, home of Astros Baseball. How
many unfortunate situations has happened with thedog this week? Let's see other than
the one that I know about thatwe know about. Yeah, are you
(01:58:00):
talking about the rug? I meanI don't know where it was. Yeah,
it was the rug, all right. I was trying to figure out
if the litter box no I meanit is the cat size. Yeah.
Will you have a cat? No? Okay, good? No cats?
Do you have a cat? No? No? You grow up with cats?
No? No cats. Have Idone this in a while? My
(01:58:21):
PSA about cats? I think it'sunderstood already without even having it. Yeah,
but I think I want to doit. Okay, don't have cats
of any kind for any reason. If you have a cat, I think
you're less of a person than ifyou don't. You're basically going to be
treated, in my eyes, likea third world citizen, and you probably
have some creepy tendencies that you don'twant people to know about. That's how
(01:58:44):
I honestly feel about cats. Ican't stand them. They're awful animals.
They're creepy and like you just pointedout, litter box, Really, what
happened over there? Oh? Nothing, No, something happened. No,
literally, nothing happen And that's whycome on, So I rubbed my face
and angst. So we're watching thisColorado A's game during the break, and
(01:59:06):
it's entirely more entertaining than it needsto be at this point. There is
what they're in the bottom of theeleventh and the bases are now loaded A's
are trying for a fifth eleventh inningrun, and if they get it,
they will win. It's so accuratethe way, because if you look at
the box score, that's absolutely true. But it's just the teams have scored
(01:59:28):
four times the way you've phrased it. I just Brandard be Lack in line
for the win if they can getit. Unbelieve that's his first non start.
Isn't it for the A's. Youknow he's appeared in another game?
Oh he has? Okay? Ohman, these are two bad baseball teams.
I'm telling you right now. Iknow that it's hyperbole and I'm over
the top. If they don't sweepthe A's this weekend, I will absolutely
(01:59:51):
be highly disappointed. I don't evencare if they're not even playing their best
baseball right now. The A's areterrible as going for win number twenty one
as we speak. The Astros willbe going for win number twenty three tomorrow.
See much better, way better, clearly way better team. Four of
the astros twenty two wins have comeagainst the A's. Now take their rosters,
okay, and then just start theseason over. Do you really think
(02:00:14):
it's just gonna be two more winsthat the Astros would have if you started
all over or just do Mexico CityA's are gonna get their twenty first win
just a matter of moments. It'sthree nothing count here. That's the walk
all game, overall game. Ican't. This is why I can't watch
bad baseball. That was as entertainingas a bad baseball game all around.
(02:00:38):
Both teams suck gets, and yetI'm just so do it. Literally,
just five pitches ago, uh huh, there was a runner on second,
right, and that's it. That'sit then, which was given to them.
It wasn't even earned. Well,no, this was later in the
innings, right, five pitches ago, you got a shot ripped between short
(02:00:59):
and third. Shorts up made anunbelievable play to save the game. Couldn't
throw the runner out at first,They intentionally walked the next batter to load
the bases, and the pitcher whowas there to intentionally issue the intentional walk,
threw four straight pitches out of thezone, thus walking in the game
winning run. That's like a kickermissing a field goal to end a game
where he had literally nothing else todo with it. I mean, it's
(02:01:21):
basically the same. That's as closeas you can get. So A's on
a bit of a heater. Theywon today. They're not a heater.
Justin Verlander throws a no hitter tomorrownight. Oh, you're shaking your head.
And then when it happens, JustinVerlander's going to go to Oakland and
no hit. Theism could that's totallygonna happen. They suck the dude.
(02:01:45):
What They're not even the worst teamin the league. They're barely behind.
They're one game behind the Astros andthe win callum. So in games not
played against each other, they havethree more wins than Houston. Oo.
Who do they play other teams?Well? Where those teams good or bad?
Well, all of them are betterthan them. How many games are
they played against the Braves? Howmany games? Okay, stop, there's
(02:02:06):
no no hitter coming. Are theygoing to remain undefeated against the A's by
the time we get to Monday?Yes, they're gonna win each of these
three. Seriously, if Spencer Arighettijust pitched his best game and he's his
next task somehow is to not allowas many runs to the A's as the
A's pitcher allows the Astros to score. I think he's in pretty good shape.
(02:02:29):
And then Renel Blanco, I'm sorryhe's not just pitching well because he
was cheating with Rosen. News flash. He's having a good year and he's
absolutely It's the perfect scenario to comeback for his first game after that massive
ten game suspension against the crappy A'son a Sunday afternoon, going into a
Memorial Day game which will not beplayed in the middle of the day.
(02:02:51):
And remember I said, when weget back here on Monday, we'll be
around. We just won't be onthe airwaves. Yeah, Thursday either and
Friday for me, yes, nextweek. I mean Matt Thomas is going
to absolutely die when he hears myschedule next week. He has no idea
otherwise we would have heard about itfor three hours today from Vegas. Yes,
(02:03:11):
from thinking, Yes, that's correctfor sure. All Right, Well,
I, like I said, Ikind of wish the Astros were playing
tonight just because, well a varietyof reasons. I do think that the
uh, you know, the waythat loss went down yesterday, you want
to get right back at it.But with what we were talking about earlier
with the bullpen, the fact thatjustin Verlanders going and you do have that
(02:03:33):
that series against the Seattle Looming, which again I don't know how they're doing
it other than they're just the leastof all the evils in this division.
That's kind of how I'm looking atwhoever's leading the division at any given time
in the AO West this year intwenty twenty four. But you're you're totally
right about the offense, the Seattleoffense. They've got great pitching, but
(02:03:57):
they are anemic. Yeah, keepthe ball down, you're good. You
can't get the ball up against them, and they're not striking out than cal
Raley and Julio Rodriguez, even MitchGarver. They could take your JV out
of the yard. Fat cal Rawley. Address him properly. I mean he's
big, dumber, so that's fine. I mean, it's he's one of
the people that rob Manfred was soworried about their livelihood. The guys behind
(02:04:20):
the play. We can't roboump themout of a framing job. I will
give him this, remember after theyou know what you want to give him,
knuckle sandwich, double rods. Verydifferent things, well, both involved
fists. One was facetious, onewas real. Remember after the series just
(02:04:42):
three games because the Astro swept themcrushing defeat at home in the first playoff
game in what twenty plus years,And he's like, oh, by the
way, I've been playing with abroken thumb this whole time. That's I
mean, that's that's respect right there. That's something. Well, what do
you mean it's something? It's respect? Take back, cap off and well
when I go back, that's respectand you say that's something that makes me
(02:05:04):
think you think it's something else.Oh, I meant to that as respect.
Well it didn't sound like what youmeant. Yeah, I know,
all right. Well, what doyou mean when you say you should not
have surgery to get rid of yourjoint pain, or you should not deal
with a downtime that comes with it, or highly potentially addictive pain medication.
(02:05:24):
You should not do any of thatif you're looking to get not only joint
pain relief, but lasting joint painrelief. And if it's in your knees,
your hips, your shoulders, yourback, if it's joint pain that's
been around for a little while ormaybe several years, which is just a
terrible scenario, what does it meanwhen you say amazing regenerative medicine treatments are
waiting you right now. It meansyou're on the phone with QC Kinetics,
(02:05:46):
you're at one of their four Houstonair locations, or you're well on your
way to having your life back andhaving said goodbye to chronic joint pain in
any of those places you just mentioned. Well, QC Kinetics, with their

and of course the newer location they'rein Cyprus. Seven one three nine

for you. Next, we willtalk to you again tomorrow, big reminder,
Big show tomorrow. We're coming toyou from Gallery Furniture tomorrow. Starting

like he's working at a sub shop.
