(00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adhamtalking your teams. Adam Clinton and Adam
Wexler are the A Team A fiveo'clock how we're underway from out here.
A Carbock Brewing Company is the ATeam slash Astros tenth Inning show, but

(00:25):
mainly just the A Team Wex andAC with you taking up until six o'clock
tonight. Don't forget that. Ontop of that, obviously, Afterwhard we've
got the live Crawford Box cast withRoss vi Real and Chris Gordy. Gordy
is on site already. I cannotsay the same for Ross, but I'm
guessing he'll be here shortly and they'lltalk all things Astros as they continue on

(00:48):
here. But yeah, the Astrois getting a five to three win over
the White Sox in the finale today, the rubber game as it were,
after taking the second game last night, following that disgusting loss in the opener,
and now the Orioles have come totown. Significant uptick in competition,
as we talked about over the courseof the last forty five minutes or so.
But there are other things going ontoday, like the fact that uf

(01:12):
h's gonna be looking for a newathletic director, rather surprising news, but
they sent out a release saying theywill be looking for a new vice President
of Collegiate Athletics, essentially their adthat's Chris Pesman. Up until today,
the last several years Chris Peesman wasin that role and he is no longer
in that role. Doctor Could Tourreleasing a statement along with that information that

(01:36):
they appreciate all he's done for them. Very large transition phase of University of
Houston Athletics, both on the onsite part of it, with all the
facility upgrades, you name it.Their facilities have been upgraded baseball, softball,
their Performance center for football in theprocess of being built. Everything that's
going on with TDECU, the multipleupgrades multiple time with the Guy V.

(02:00):
Lewis development facility and their performance center, and all the way through the athletic
department, it's been incredible what itlooks like over there the indoor practice facility
and what their athletes are now goingto see and the athletes they hope to
recruit to come into the program.Obviously, the hires that go along with
it, with Kelvin Samson and KellnSamson in place, on the basketball side,

(02:23):
the new hire of Willie Fritz asthey enter and move further into a
Big twelve football with what I sawtoday as someone twenty four to seven does
a great job covering the college game, indicated they felt like the University of
Houston Cougar's have the fifth most difficultschedule this upcoming season. That does not
bode well for mister Fritz. Butyeah, they've decided to move on from

(02:46):
Chris Pesman, and yes, Ifind that very surprising. So be interesting
to see what direction they want togo in next. Considering where all those
things I mentioned are and all thethings that have already been accomplished there,
and the amount of money donor moneyand I owe money for that matter,
needed to be in place for allthese things to happen. They'll be looking
for somebody else to somewhat be incharge of a lot of those things as

(03:07):
they move forward and continue a nationalsearch as part of the Big twelve and
moving forward. But yes, that'smajor news. That's someone on the way
out. JJ Reddick is on theway in. He is the new head
coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. He gets a four year deal. His
run as a analyst co analyst forthe NBA Finals ends after five games.

(03:29):
He did five games of this NBAFinals alongside Doris Burke and mister Bang.
And that's it. He did bangfor Peyton Pritchard. By the way,
if you were wondering, he likesto keep track of those, not you,
Mike does. But JJ will nowbe guiding Anthony Davis and Lebron James.
You know who wouldn't who wouldn't havekept track of his yeses? Marv?

(03:50):
They're too many? Wow, Butyeah, I think it's hey,
why are you getting on Lebron? He's not even getting back on defense.
That's all right, I'll get onhim on our podcast, don't worry.
I mean, that's not even farfetched. That's the sad thing is that
this isn't the first time, eventhough every time it happens. I think
people will go back to, well, how can they think someone who's never

(04:11):
coached before can do it? Therenow are several coaches who have come from
no experience because Steve Nash exists, well, Mark Jackson had no experience.
Jason Kidd didn't have experience. JasonKidd was just coaching in the NBA Finals.
Obviously, jj Reddick fits that bill. It has happened before and it
probably will continue. You don't thinkthat the Dallas Mavericks are in the NBA

(04:32):
Finals in any way, shape orform because of the coaching job Jason Kidd
did, though. I think hedid by far his best coaching job,
and that is the lamest, softlestcompliment I could ever give him, because
I think he did a poor jobin each stop beforehand. If they had
the best backcourt in the NBA andI first season, getting to the finals
is difficult. They didn't have agreat unit, as we saw in the

(04:55):
finals, but he found a wayto help those guys a little bit while
Kyrie and Luca did Kyrie and Lucathings. Yeah, I'm not a big
fan of Jason Kidd as a headcoach, but I gotta respect the fact
that there are only two coaches coachingin the finals and he was one of
them. This might seem like aridiculous question, but I actually think he
might still. Is Donny Nelson stilldoing their personnel? It's Nico Harrison who

(05:16):
kind of runs the Nelson still somecapacity? Is he not? He has?
I think he's more of a phonecall away type of part of the
organization, and Mark Cuban's like threephone calls away or two or something like
that. He is he's he He'snot as seen and as visible, and
he has a little bit less todo, but he's a He really still

(05:39):
does call the shots as part ofthat ridiculously awesome agreement. We're going to
buy it from you and give youthis winfall of money and still let you
run the team. It is wild, especially when you consider the Verry Bird
had no head coaching experience when hegot the Pacers gig. Yeah, but
you know, Doc Rivers, whoamong us or anyone on the planet was

(06:00):
surprised that that guy, with hispersonality and his cerebral sense of all things,
not just basketball but life, wassuccessful as a head coach. Yeah,
it's hard to do. As aformer player, Magic and Isaiah have
helped to provide that balance of yes, sometimes it really really does not work
out JJ Reddick for all I cantell. And he's given us enough audio

(06:24):
over the last couple of years now, both from podcasts and his NBA work
and yelling at Stephen A. Smithaccurately. I think he understands the game
very well. I think he hasreally good ideas about what should and shouldn't
work, some philosophies that probably canbe implemented. But he's never been on
the other side. He has listenedto his coaches, he's been in the
locker room with all these players andcoaches, He's traveled and been an NBA

(06:44):
guy for a decade plus. Justdoing that job is foreign to him.
He's never been on the bench periodas any kind of coach. So I'll
be interested see what he's looking forin his coaching staff. Also, this
is twofold. This isn't just oh, he doesn't have any experience as a
head coach. This is oh,he doesn't have any experience as a head

(07:05):
coach, and he's going to coachLebron, which really means that Lebron's coaching
the team and GMing the team. Now, yeah, I would say you're
right, But I would also saythat's been exactly the same situation for all
of them. Yeah, for DavidBlatt, for tylu for Mike Brown,
for Darvin Ham. It doesn't.I don't think it's really with Miami.

(07:27):
It wasn't. He got put inhis place in Miami, and Miami maybe
it was different and the other thingthat was different in Miami. And maybe
you disagree. It was not histeam, No, Dwayne Wade, it
was dwayn Wade's team. So DwayneWade and I don't have the stats in
front of me right this second, but I would argue Dwayne Wade had more
of an impact on those two titleteams and four finalists. Two. They

(07:49):
only won two titles together. Yeah, not one, not three, not
four, but two. What aridiculous spectacle that press con. That wasn't
even a press conference, it wasa concert. Yeah, think about that.
They were talking about winning six titlestogether. They only played together for
four years. So bring it tothe Lakers. It's a four year deal
for JJ Reddick. We all knowthat stuff. That doesn't mean anything anyway,

(08:11):
And we know the contractual situation forLebron. Who's going to well there
isn't one right now, technically rightthe situation is if he wants to opt
in, he can, but hehas to sign a new deal. He's
not going to not coach Lebron.Right, My My only question is who's
going to be a Laker longer?Starting today? Well, you know I

(08:33):
would normally say, well, that'sa no brainer. It's going to be
Lebron because they're going to fire JJ. But I I mean, so I'm
guessing that Lebron signs a two yeardeal with a player option for the second
year, usually a one in onedeal. You and I mean, I

(08:56):
keep Here's the thing I keep thinkingabout Steve Nash. And the reason I
keep thinking about Steve Nash is notjust because he was a guy who had
zero head coaching experience. He hada much better roster. Now, was
it healthy and or vaccinated enough toplay at any given time in those seasons?
No, But I mean, inlike the worst case scenario, you

(09:22):
would have thought he would have squeezedmore wins than he did out of that
team. Then again, those threeonly played together, what thirteen games something
like that? And yes, ivanuallyso, I just like the other thing
we mock Kevin Durant's shoe size allthe time. Oh, his shoe was
a little bit shorter, his footwas a little bit shorter. The three

(09:43):
goes in, it's a three thatand everything changes, right. That was
the one good year he had withthem, Paul, Sure, but this
wasn't it. I mean, thiswas that there was more to it.
They still had to go out andoutplay them for forty eight minutes. The
Nets didn't have to do anything else. They were gonna advance right right on
that. So that puts him inthe conference finals in year one as a

(10:05):
head coach with that group supremely talented, And I would totally agree the group
that Steve Nash got in his firstyear, I'll be at a shortened season,
only seventy two games, much moretalented currently than what the Lakers are
gonna put on the floor. ButI expect the Lakers, like the Sixers
apparently and many other teams, tobe looking to upgrade things. Heck,
look what's happening in the other LAteam right now. Everyone seems to be

(10:28):
in search of pulling Paul George fromthe Clippers. Now these Sixers are,
the reports are they're not quite asinterested. We know that Tyloo now Jeff
van Gundy, he'd be perfect.I couldn't agree more. Obviously, would
not have to be the lead star. He'd probably be their third best player
behind Maxi and Embeid. He'd getsslept on and they have the ability to
go get him. So yeah,I would think that would make sense.

(10:50):
It keeps the Clippers from being afactor in any way if that were to
happen. There was a trade todayagain the finals end and as Adam Silver's
handing the trophy to the celt Basically, it's a free for all. You
could start talking with your own players, you can begin trades. We obviously
were within a week of the draft. Free agency begins immediately basically right after
that, and the Chicago Bulls sentone of the best defensive perimeter players in

(11:13):
the league to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Thunder already looking at their roster and
wondering what needs to be better, and they've added Alex Caruso and they've subtracted
Josh Giddy. Yeah. Well, and that trade involving Shay Gilgess, Alexander,

(11:33):
I know at one point last yearyou were very very vocal about it
being it worked out for both teams. I don't know if you're be able
to say that when you look back. I mean, I think it worked
out. It worked out way betterfor the Thunder. I think now they
had a very disappointing playoff, butthey are like set up pretty because of
him. Yeah, because of He'sjust turned out to be. You know,

(11:56):
the James Harden on the flip side, and the difference being the rockets.
Like, if the Clippers knew thathe was going to become this,
do they still make that deal.I don't know if they do, if
they knew he had become this. No, I don't think there's any question
they don't make that deal. Butit also, I mean, it's been
a process. I know it probablydoesn't seem like it, but next year
is year seven for Gilgess Alexander. Now, he's young, so I don't

(12:18):
mean that there's not a lot inthe future. There is, but it's
seven years of development, six ofwhich have been spent with the Thunder.
And this was his first ever playoffseries victory in his career. Yeah,
he'll only been in the playoffs threetimes, didn't win a series either of
the other two seasons, and nowhas won one a playoff series. The
number one seed did not play inthe conference finals. That's kind of nuts.

(12:41):
All right, we will take aquick time out, we come back,
we'll get some of the other thingswe haven't gotten to today. They
call it in case you missed it, we call it that actually, and
so I'll just say they but that'sright around the corner. But now before
we tell you guys about getting yourlife back, I mean that might sound
extreme, it might sound over thetop, it might sound dramatic, but
it's really true. Because if you'vegot joint pain of any kind and it's

(13:01):
keeping you from living a one hundredpercent pain free lifestyle, you gotta get
that taken care of. And youdon't want to do it involving surgery or
downtime or anything else that comes witha surgical procedure. You want to go
to QC Kinetics and let them dofor you what they've done for thousands of
Houston area people. Yeah, youdon't need to wonder if joint paint relief

(13:24):
is here. It is here rightat QC Kinetics calling today seven one three
nine one three fifty two eighty fiveseven one three nine one three fifty two
eighty five. Joint paint relief youcan get from QC Kinetics. They're gonna
set you up with a free consultation. They've got four Houston area locations.
They're the leader in regenerative medicine, and that's what it's all about here with

(13:46):
no drugs, no downtime, nosteroids. Those four Houston area locations the
Woodlands, the Heights, their Sugarlandlocation, and the newest location in Cyprus,
all with expanded treatment capacity. Becauseso many of you have taken our
advice and taken QS Kinetics up onthe offer to have you say goodbye to
chronic joint pain seven one three, nine one three fifty two eighty five.

(14:07):
Make the call today. It's aQC Kinetics. We now returned to Adam
Clinton and Adam Wexlwer on Sports Talkseven ninety. That music means it's time
for In case you missed it,Dan, take it away. All right,
So you guys were talking about JJReddick getting the job in LA But

(14:28):
what if maybe not everyone who isa Lakers legend. I mean, I
don't know if we count Lebron inthat category, but what if not,
everyone would be on board with this? And here's where I'm going. Carmelo
Anthony has a podcast called seven PMin Brooklyn, and they asked a story
about when the twenty eight team USApractices were going on and Kobe apparently could

(14:52):
not stand the Lakers new head coachCold took it person, We'll get a
JJ Reddick in practice because he gottime of coach Kate kept talking about JJ
Reddick. All right, Cole tookit very, very personal, to the
point where he was running through screens. In practice, he was denying JJ
the boy he was fouling out JJ. I'm like, damn, why are
you treating a young boy like that? I'm like, what's the what's the

(15:18):
problem? Coach Kate keep talking aboutthis month? He came up here to
do something this month. I'm gonnashow you to day this month, JJ
ready to score. Well, Imean that's basically a carbon copy of what
Michael Jordan did to basically anybody whohe felt slighted him in any way,
shape or form, or in thiscase, if a coach Chuck Daly,

(15:41):
I guess would have been playing therole of coach k had maybe he tried
to say, Hey, Christian Latner, this guy's gonna do something. I
mean, that's the only parallel Ican make. It sounds like something Jordan
would do in the Last Dance.Yeah, I am a I'm not a
smart man, so I need helphere. Do you know what love is?
I I'm missing the connection to theLakers and the current situation. Well,

(16:04):
I mean, Kobe was a legendand apparently he couldn't stand their new
head coach. Well, at thetime, nobody knew he was going to
be the head coach of the Lakers. Twenty years later and I'm nothing.
I don't even know how to putthis, Like, does that matter.
He's not a part of the Lakers. I think we all know why,
which is so sad. But it'snot like they're consulting with somebody who doesn't

(16:27):
like him. This is exactly, this is how many years ago. This
would have actually been more pertinent ifLebron had said something like this, and
it would have made sense since Lebronis part of the Banana boat and mainly
and like you were saying, Ac, this had more to do with the
person promoting the person than the playerthey wanted to. Okay, well,

(16:49):
then I'll show you another candidate tobe there. He was coach of the
Lakers too, by the way,Yes, because Kobe wanted him. He
wasn't showing Yeah, I don't thinkhe was showing JJ he couldn't play.
I think he was showing coach kJJ couldn't play. And again, remember
Kobe went hard for coach k tobe the Lakers new head coach. It

(17:10):
didn't work. Out, Hey,if I'm not gonna go to college,
I might as well just get tocollege. Coach he coached me in the
NBA. Now, it's interesting howI guess emotions do play into a lot
of these situations. And you've gota player who's not too far removed from
the league, like we've gone onand on about the podcast and about him
coaching, Well, he played againstLebron how many times and for how many

(17:33):
years? And the same thing witha lot of the players they'll probably end
up counting on because of who's likelyto be on their roster. A guy
that they wanted to put in abody bag for running them off screens and
a guy they wanted to you know, elbow out of the paint. And
now he's gonna be saying that wasin a very good sequence once you go
run laps? What else we got? All? Right? So, do

(17:53):
you guys think we should be heldaccountable like athletes and coaches are for their
actions during games? Like if wehave just such a bad take and it's
just awful, like we have toanswer to it, right, Yes,
we have to answer to it.It doesn't mean like a weather person.
I mean we are like weather people. We're not going to get fired over
it. I mean, if theytell you that it's about to flood every

(18:14):
five minutes on a Wednesday in Houstonrandomly two days or yesterday and it doesn't,
they're not getting fired. But yeah, accountable answer to it. Sure.
All right, Here's where I'm goingwith this, because Derek Jeter was
recently on Jimmy Traina's Sports Illustrated Mediapodcast and he was asked about having one
outstanding, you know, a voterwho did not vote for him to become
a unanimous to make the Hall ofFame. And Jeter's point was, look,

(18:38):
stop asking me. Ask the guywhose name is Nick Caneppa of the
San Diego Union Tribune why he didn'tput me on the ballot. So,
I mean, I kind of thinkit's a fair point there of look,
yes I'm not unanimous, but I'mnot the one who should be answering that
question. So he asked Jeter aboutthis, Yes, and that was Jeter's

(19:00):
response simply because I mean, Jetercan't help who does it doesn't vote for
him. I look, this iswhat I said. And it was on
our show obviously when this happened, because Jeter was announced as a non unanimous
Baseball Hall of Famer on that day, and I was laughing, and I
like Jeter despite I mean, there'sa picture circulating around of me on the

(19:21):
internet that Yankee fans love to graspto, especially during this successful run by
the Astros. Oh you're not evena real aster fand look at you,
You're wearing Yankees gear inside Yankees Stadium. Okay, first of all, it
was like twenty fourteen. I wasthere for Jeter's last homestand and I was
a huge Jeter fan, always was, and I hated the Yankees and I

(19:44):
love Jeter. It was a reallyweird existence, but that's how it was.
Having said all of that, Ilaughed my ass off when he didnt
get one hundred percent of the vote. It was hilarious to me because I
knew that for the rest of time, because that's how these people are.
It was stick in the craw ofYankees fans, and Jeter himself is having
to answer dumb questions like this andprobably will for the rest of his life

(20:07):
at some point or another because ofthat one guy. But he's right taken
up with him. It's not Jeter'sfault, right, Definitely, the case
and unfortunately this week because of thepassing of Willy Mays. And really think
it's cool some of the things thatare going on. All these things were
planned in advance, but the timingand like we talked about it with Chandler
Rome yesterday, the tributes that willbe there, and I think more people

(20:30):
will think even more about Willy Maysand others that are such a big part
of why the game is what itis today. Willie Mays four hundred and
thirty two voters when he was onthe ballot for the first time in nineteen
seventy nine, we've just gone throughthe last couple of days saying yeah,
there's a pretty good case to bemade. He's literally number one on the
list, the all time greatest playerever ever full game, twelve consecutive gold

(20:56):
gloves, tremendous base runner, unrealathlete, and tremendous hitter and tremendous power
hitter. Arguably the best player ever. Four hundred and thirty two voters their
first opportunity to vote him in,twenty three of those voters said yeah,
I don't think so. Twenty threevoters said Willy Mays, No, I'm

(21:17):
not voting you in now, topto bottom, who's a better player,
Willie Mays or Derek Jeters. It'snot even there's no reason to spend any
time on it. It's not evenclose. He got way more votes.
I mean, Willy Mays isn't evenin the top twenty. As in the
highest percentage of votes. Randy Johnsongot a higher percentage of votes. Adrian
freaking Beltray got a higher percentage ofthe vote. It's I don't want to

(21:41):
harp on it, but I dobecause I cannot fathom how some people think
that have been gifted this opportunity tovote for things so prestigious. Again,
it's we always wind up saying this. It's just more of this kind of
stuff with Major League Baseball than anyof the their major sports. Now,
first of all, it takes nothingto get into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

(22:03):
I mean, I hate to saythat, because I love the NBA,
or at least I have most ofmy life. It's kind of falling
off to me now. But forthe most part, the NBA has been
like one of my first loves, and it's just it's not as meaningful a
hall of fame as the Definitely theNFL, the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
I mean there's guys that wait andwait and wait and wait and wait

(22:23):
and wait, especially receivers we knowfamously. I mean, I was convinced
Andre Johnson was gonna get it.That's why it's a big deal. He
is this year. Yes, veryvery difficult to get in. I'm not
like the but the baseball one basketballHall of Fame where the third round pick
sixtieth overall in the nineteen seventy eightdraft at showtime Cooper is a Hall of

(22:44):
Famer. Well, I feel bad. I feel bad for Coop that I
will constantly go to him until somebodyworse gets in. Why but he's getting
in now. And I know he'sa great defensive player, and I know
it takes two ends of the court, and I know he's a part of
a lot of champions. I knowit all. I just can't not believe
he's regarded as a elite enough basketballtalent to be a part of the better

(23:07):
case to be made for a Lakersrole player in the Hall of Fame.
Michael Cooper, Robert Y we didbring that up the other day, and
I don't even think it's close,not even again. One sided in Ory's
favor, and that he both helpedyou on both ends of the court.
And there was Michael Cooper's game winnerin a conference finals or a finals or
just anything ever. I will Iwill say this, I do think there's

(23:30):
a difference in why we have whatwe have. Sam Cassell game winner,
Marri Eelli game clincher, Robert Orriseries game winners, what game three?
And they were all playing with theRockets. It was a lot easier to
get one because he only had oneguy who had to have the ball should
be the guy that gets it.He could have given it to anybody and

(23:51):
they would have a chance. Whenyou're with the Lakers, like who's the
guy, There's almost never been justone guy. There's almost never been just
two guys. There's usually three orfour guys that are on their way to
the Hall of Fame for their offensiveexploits. And that's why you're I mean,
what's James worthy? What's his gamewinner? And I'm not saying he's
not a deserving Hall of Famer, but it's never gonna be in his hands.
His game winner was across the streetfrom the Summit in nineteen eighty six,

(24:15):
Com James Worthy, he's not heretip off. He'll be here after
halftime, after he gets done gettingbailed out of jail for picking up hookers.
That was when he was gonna miss, just the tip off of the
game. Ah and scene. Hey, speaking of which, Berkeley Eye Center
will help you be seeing things, especially if you're a teacher. Oh,

(24:37):
there's a transition and a half rightthere. Berkeley Eye Center has great news
this summer for all teachers and educationalstaff. Sixteen hundred dollars plus in lacy
savings, a free pair of designersunglasses so the kids can't tell where you're
looking at any given time, anda Visa gift card to help jump start

(24:57):
next year's classroom are just a fewof the things that Berkeley Center is offering
some of the most important people inour society. We're talking about teachers and
educational staff. And if you havea good one or good ones for your
child, you know how important thatis. Why not spread the word and
let them know. Hey, BerkeleyCenter is just one place that's looking out

(25:18):

E c Lasik dot com, oryou can call them at seven one three

(25:40):
five two six I seven one threefive two six E y E s for
Berkeleyy Center. Hey, it's aput down for here every Rockets game Sports
Talk seven to ninety streaming on theiHeartRadio app home of Rockets Basketball. Tomorrow
night's upon. It has extended itslead over the New York Yankees to fourteen

(26:03):
to five, and it's the There'sstill two more innings to go, so
it could get worse for the Yankees. Man, it counts all the same
unless you're into run different along.Mean, the only thing of significance beyond
the obvious is that Luis Heel wason the mound for this. This has
not happened his whole career. Iknow he's only a rookie, but he
got absolutely torched today, doubled Zra. Basically, it's now two seventy seven,

(26:26):
got four outs, gave up eighthits, two walks, and seven
runs. And that's still only halfthe runs that the Orioles have scored today,
so they'll come in hot offensively. They obviously won yesterday's game, since
we mentioned that earlier. It wasthe return of Garrett Cole went into the
fifth inning of work having given upjust one run but a lot of base
runner and then was pulled from thegame. That run went on his ledger

(26:47):
as well when a home run wasallowed. Not long after his exit.
You brought up the beanballs from yesterday'sgame, and I said we would get
to it yesterday, and some ofthe national talking heads and some of the
East Coast talking heads were clearly gettinginto this a little bit. You know.
The Yankees weren't happy, and theOrioles weren't happy. Kind of stemmed
from Juan Soto's ridiculous path from secondbase to third base when he ran into

(27:11):
the third baseman, who ultimately hurthis hip and left the game. There
had been inside pitches. There continuedto be inside pitches, one of which
hit Aaron Judge on the hand.He stayed in the game at the time
to run and then would leave thegame later skipped yesterday's game, was in
the lineup today he's homered. Afterthat happened, nothing further really in that
game. Another pitch high and tightto Glabor Torres. He was hit,

(27:34):
but nothing really stemmed from and GunnarHenderson got bean, absolutely no question about
it. They threw at him,hit him in the back, and he
went to first base. And thiswas while the Orioles were going to ultimately
win the game. Again, thisis the kind of ill advised stuff I
begged the Astros not to get involvedin during all of AJ Hinch's tenure and

(27:57):
all of just all the end ofAJ's tenure and all of Dusty's tenure.
You don't have time for that nonsense. It's not about showing you're not gonna
back down. It's not about beingboss. It's not about being tough.
When the Astros in the Rangers gotinto a few of those you hit us,
we hit you, that was becausethat was pitcher related only and not
team related. I think Andrew Heeneywas a moron for hitting yord On the

(28:18):
way he did, and I thinkI think a fromber Valdez was extremely foolish
for hitting the batters that he did. And I don't think this was from
the bench. I don't think thiswas intentional. I don't think this was
standing up for ourselves. And you'retoo good for it. You can't do
this. All it does is hurtyour team because guys are gonna get hurt.
It happens all the time, andyou got it. It sounds wrong

(28:41):
from the baseball player side. Wegotta patrol this ourselves. We gotta please
this ourselves. That's not policing it. It's absolute utter stupidity. You cannot
throw it, guys because you're madthat you think guys hanging over the You
know why guys get hit on thehand all the time, because they're standing
on top of the plate. Thesepitches were three inches off the plate.

(29:02):
There's nowhere else to throw the ball. It didn't. I just think more
people, I think understand it nowbecause you know, many many many moons
ago. Of course you throw itguys. Of course you have fights.
Of Course guys got hurt, andwe move on and do it again in
three weeks. I'm glad teams don'tplay each other six series anymore, otherwise
it would absolutely still happen, gettinghim down to just four series of season

(29:26):
in Division. I'm not in favorof it. From a I like playing
those teams more. I think that'sa great way to make the division matter
more, feel more like, yeah, they deserve to be there. That
clearly were the best team. Butit also promotes well, they've played fifteen
times and each side's been hit sixteenit's just enough like the Astros and Mariners.
How many times has Ty Frantz beenhit the last few years? But

(29:48):
it is every team. Yeah.I think a few people that commented on
it were with me saying, youcan't. You can't be wasting your time
trying to get even, get evenby beating him. The Orioles are handing
it to them. That's how youget even well, and the winning run
coming home on the hit batsman isjust the icing on the cake. And
then for them to follow that up. That was a seven to six final,

(30:11):
by the way, with currently yeah, yeah, currently fourteen to five
in regulars is hilarious. By theway, it should be worse. The
Orioles have left ten on basin duringthis game and they're still in the eighth
inning. So yeah, I'm finewith it. This is about the time
that the Yankees take their annual swoon. His coming, I'm not sure that

(30:34):
it is usually July, so I'llgive it a couple of weeks. It's
usually October. Well technically yes,but I just meant their regular season dominance
goes by the wayside the parade routesthat are planned by their fan base in
the midst of July. You couldnarrow it down to the actual dates that
they came to Houston for that twogame series with the Astros in July of

(30:56):
twenty two, and that's exactly wheneverybody knew that, well, the Yankees
were not going to do anything ofsubstance and the Astros were going to win
their second World Series. But maybeyou didn't know all that. Yeah,
what's come out of this series ispretty unfortunate for Houston. The best offense
in baseball the last thirty days,it's the Orioles, the only team with
fifty homers, the only team withan OPS over eight hundred, and Jake

(31:19):
bloss gets them. Tomorrow. Hisfirst ever major league pitch will be thrown
against presumably Gunner Henderson, who leadsoff, and the Orioles. He has
two things going for him tomorrow night. And I'm not even saying this tongue
in cheek. One of them isthat he is an unknown They don't have
a book on him. They Imean, if he can facilitate and use

(31:40):
the element of surprise that he hasunder on his side of things, that
can absolutely mean something. But theother thing is, if you're the Astros
and you're putting up fourteen runs orthe magic number was ten, you'd run
out. You wouldn't have any bulletsfor the next game. It was just
a factor over the last several years. So maybe that'll happen to the Orioles,
maybe not. In any event,We've got one more segment out here

(32:01):
at Carbok Brewery and we will beback for that in Justice session. Not
the brewmaster, that man. Youknow. You know why why Because if
you come by to see us herein our normal inside location of Carbock Brewing,
we are directly in your line ofsight when you open the front door
to the restaurant. Yes, onyour door, it's bright out. Anything
that's in your direct line of sightwhere they make the beer, the brewing

(32:24):
equipment is right over my shoulder.Me. Once in a while, I'll
be doing the show, I'm like, is someone behind me? I'm against
the wall? How is somebody standingback there? But that's him hard at
work. I tell him, Igo, I never see you, and
he casually said, well, I'mnormally on that side of the glass exactly,
which is exactly where the important stuffhappens, you know. Speaking of
which, if you want to gobehind the glass, behind the closed doors

(32:45):
and find out what your testosterone levelis and where it needs to be in
relation to where it is right now, there's no better place than to go
to one of the five Houston arealocations for Men's T Clinic. They are
celebrating their tenth anniversary this year andthey are celebrating it with you guys,
and I'm talking about the guys outthere. Twenty five dollars T tests for

(33:05):
new patients and thirty percent off performanceinjections for new and existing patients. Just
went by the Heights location, whichis right there at It and Durham right
before the show. I mean it'sliterally around the corner from where we're sitting
right now over here at Carbok.Convenience is a factor, though, no
matter which one of those you goto, The Heights, Cypress, Paarlam,
Pasadena, and Spring they've all gotflexible appointment times and cash and insurance

(33:29):
options. To make it easy foryou to get in, get out,
and get back to being you.But it starts with those testosterone tests and
like I said, twenty five dollarsT tests for new patients. When you
go to Men's Tclinic dot com orcall eight hundred and two four six Low
T and mention my name and theiranniversary offer, you'll get hooked up with
that test. You'll find out withinthe hour on site with their labs what

(33:52):
your results are, and if youhave low testosterone, they'll go about crafting
an individualized treatment plan for you.You can get your self back to being
the old U, the best versionof you thanks to MEN'ST Clinic dot Com.
Visit Men's T Clinic dot com today, rest assured. No other sports
station in Age Down has two Adamsin the afternoon. I'm so lucky to

(34:15):
have you looking out for me.Adam and Adam Wexler are eighteen. I
have a feeling that tomorrow on theMatt Thomas Show, Believe it or Not,
is going to be all things DonaldSutherland. He didn't have a show
today and Donald died during the game. That is unfortunate. I think a

(34:37):
lot of people are fans of alot of his movie roles and movies in
general. Eighty eight years old,I believe, and his sons. Yeah,
did you watch four? No,Chloe, there's not enough time.
Did not? That was like Wexlerin twenty four. I think so twenty
four is really good. That's myunderstanding, especially the first time I think
I got flatlined on watching most ofKiefer stuff. Was Julian robertson that one.

(35:01):
Yes, so was mister Bacon,And I'm aware that he was a
young gun and things like that. He's been in a lot of twice.
Yes, but I don't know.I'm probably I probably would say Donald had
more of my favorites than he did. He was really good in the movie
About Fire with Kurt Russell and oneof the Baldwins Backdraft the movie about Fire.

(35:25):
Yeah, he was really good inAnimal House. He tried to steal
one of the fraternity brother's girlfriends wella professor and succeeded, although they got
together at the end of the movie. And a bunch of other stuff.
But yes, unfortunate very well.Could be the end of tomorrow's show.
Our lead in for our show atminute made part tomorrow. Jeff Blummell join
us at three o'clock. That's right, We're gonna hang out with Blummer for

(35:47):
the first hour for the first timein probably a month. I mean,
I'm serious. I don't got alot of road trips for him in a
month, probably half of them, and the other two times we have been
over in an awesome place Tom's watchbar for our shows. So yes,
in person, Yeah, looking forwardto it. Glad that they won that
game today, So we don't.I mean, the happy flights are a

(36:09):
thing. Yeah, I don't thinkthere are much of it this year when
you're thirty five and forty. ButI know they finally got those hits with
runners in scoring position in that seventhinning, two of them to drive home.
A couple of the runs in thatfour running, last run coming home
on a basis loaded walk. Thego ahead run came home on an error
on the third basement or an infieldhit. But it isn't even about having

(36:30):
an o fers or non hits withrunners in scoring position. You get guys
on first and second and Jeremy Panagoes up there in the fourth inning looking
to bunt in a one nothing game, which is I don't know not probably
what I would do, but it'salmost like they know they can't count on

(36:51):
him or anybody to fly out toright field and move the runner ninety feet,
to hit a ground ball behind therunners without hitting into a double play,
or to get a hit quite obviously, so he went up there to
bunt and couldn't do that. It'susually why I say I'm not a big
fan of this team bunting, eventhough he's one of the few that should
be able to, and I'd havemore confidence in doing so. But the

(37:14):
you know, White Sox were ableto push a run across on a sack
fly, and I'm aware of theAstros in yesterday's game had both a sack
bunt and a sack fly in thesame inning to score a run. They
just don't do enough of the yougot to move the runner up. I
don't care if you get a hit. I don't care you got and the
way you do it. And Danatalked about it wednesday really pretty loudly,
I thought, without trying to riphis players, you don't. They don't

(37:37):
have a particularly good approach in thosesituations. I'm okay with them swinging early
accounts and being super aggressive I justif they weren't, then they'd be down
oh two. They're not wildly swingingat pitches out of the zone, not
against Crochet anyway. For the mostpart, he would usually put them out
with a pitch out of the zonethat they would swing at because now they
were in an O two count becauseof foul balls. But they need to

(38:00):
change their swings with two strikes. They need to guide the baseball a little
bit more with two strikes. Theyneed to shorten their swings with two strikes.
And it's pretty much everybody other thanyour done, because I'm not usually
gonna ask him to do that, and maybe not Kyle Tucker, but we
haven't seen him for the better partof this month. It's pretty much everybody
else. And I do think weare seeing a real turn in Alex Bregman's

(38:22):
work to be able to raise hisaverage this deep into a season nearly fifty
points. He's almost hitting two fifty. But it's been a long road back
to that point, by the way, and I don't want to absolutely destroy
Paana, but we're in another onehundred and twelve hundred and thirteen hundred and
fourteen at bat stretch without him hittingthe ball over the fence. The penia

(38:45):
that was playing the first forty fiveto fifty days games this year, he's
not He's not there anymore. Thisis the old Pania. This is the
guy who has not shown tremendous improvementat the plate. It's okay to have
him in the everyday lineup. He'san elite defender, he's got elite speed.
He can help you in certain ways. He's not progressed in year three

(39:07):
as an offensive player. You're describingBregman before he got back on track for
the most part. Elite defender.Speed on the base paths, no speed,
not the base pass, not likePayna. But he's not the slowest
guy either. Uh, non catcher. Hmm. Do you think there's any
going on a team slower than him. He's not a catcher like Bregman is

(39:27):
a snail. He is. He'snot that slow. I mean, I
can I'm sure we can stat castit for an answer sometime in the near
future, because it's super important. You're telling me there's definitely five guys in
the lineup that are faster than him. Oh, there's definitely five guys in
the lineup that are faster than him. Yeah, for sure. The everyday
lineup. Yeah, who are they? Well, besides well I can't guess

(39:51):
him as one of the five. That's who were we were comparing how you're
limiting how many players are even available? Well, you're limiting his speed.
I'm not limiting it. He isexact. We'll argue about this tomorrow.
We're out of time to argue aboutit anymore. Yeah, sprint speed.
Bregman ranks ninth on the team.Paenya Meyers, Chazz Diaz, Dubon Altuve

(40:12):
would be the five. I guessDiaz is faster than Alex Bregman. That
just seems I did say non catcher, so I guess I shouldn't use him,
But it just that just seems unrealto me. Also, this is
sprint speed, which indicates Kyle Tuckeris one of the players slower than him.
No kidding, It doesn't seem likethat's possible, considering he knows how
to steal basis. Kyle Tucker, when he hits a home run, acts

(40:34):
like it's a chore that he hasto run around the bases. He has
this look on his face really atall times. It basically says, I
have to do this I mean itwent under the fence. Can't you just
put the number on the board andI go back to the dugout Alex Bregman,
fourth on the team in h fourthslowest on the team, home plate
to first base. I'm sorry.Sorry, well that fact. Guess I
was wrong as wrong could be onThat won't be the first or the last

(40:58):
time. But you know what thegood news is, I'll get fired over
it, as we discussed, aswe discussed earlier on The A Team,
and we'll discuss many other topics aswex mentioned out at Minute Made Park tomorrow
when Jeff Blum joins us for thefirst hour and we do all three hours
out there on a Friday edition ofThe A Team. Got to say thanks
to everybody who made it possible outhere at carbok today. And before we

(41:20):
do wrap things up, I wantto tell you guys one more time about
you teachers out there, you educationaltypes. They are really really wanting to
recognize you. Over at Berkeley ICenter. They're making it easy for everybody
to take part in LASIK and they'regiving you savings and doing all sorts of
things like throwing in a pair ofdesigner sunglasses. But when it comes to

(41:45):
Those free designer sunglasses I mentioned anda Visa gift card to help jump start
next year's classroom can be yours. If you go to b eclasic dot com.
If I have your attention, goto that website beeclasik dot com.
That's bclasic dot com. Or youcan call them A seven one three five
two six I seven one three fivetwo six E y E s and tell

(42:05):

go anywhere. A live edition ofthe Crawford box Cast coming up momentarily with
