(00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named AdamTalking Your Team series Adam Clinton and Adam
Wexler are the A Team a straightup three o'clock here in Houston texts,
it is the A Team Sports Talkseven ninety wex over there, Ace over
(00:26):
here and back, and of coursethe showkiller Dan Matthews as we take you
up until six o'clock on a Mondayedition. Fresh off a very busy weekend
and for me, a very busyweek that was not busy. I really
really enjoyed that vacation more than Ihave in a long long time, but
I could not wait to get back, particularly when it was around oh Thursday
(00:48):
morning ish and I started seeing walkingout with wex tweets and notebook pictures and
everything else to let me know theTexans camp is officially underway and I'm late
for it. Were four days inor four practices in. Today was day
five. Gotta keep both counts going. They've had an off day, they
will have another one coming up onThursday tomorrow. We'll be on the field
(01:08):
and weather permitting. The weather wasvery very good today right up until the
time just about everybody had left thefield. It literally started raining at that
very moment, expected to be alittle earlier with that. Tomorrow it is
the first fan practice, first practiceopen to the fans tomorrow, which is
all great. More importantly, they'regonna have pads on tomorrow, and that
(01:30):
is a little bit more of asignifier of football is on the horizon.
Real football, of course, isplayed with pads. And even though this
is practice football, I think youget a little bit better idea of some
of the four days worth of thingsthat we have seen. But I've been
out there for each of those andhappy to share with you some of my
thoughts, both on social media, but more importantly right here during our three
(01:51):
hour parade through Houston Sports. Thatcertainly is among the things on tap today.
Always something that is a part oftraining camp attendance. Who was attending
and who was practicing, and whois on the side, and what has
changed They made a couple of rostermoves today in light of some of those
things. We'll get into that also, who wasn't there and why they are
(02:12):
ahead on the same side of theball they almost always are in this camp
and each of the other thirty onewhen they put the pads on tomorrow,
maybe it'll feel a little bit different. Certainly can see some of the additions
that this team has made and maybeget a better understanding of what the reasons
were behind it. When you lookat how they've reshaped the defensive line position
more than any other spot on theteam, can kind of see some of
(02:34):
the things that they thought they mightwant to do that why they might want
to do that. And actually, something that Daniel Hunter told us over the
weekend, I think really pointed tothat. So definitely want to share that.
And obviously, like Ac mentioned, the Astros had four days off to
hope for one thing, the AllStar break did not kill their momentum.
They absolutely ran rough shot up thedivision ladder and we're sitting right behind the
(02:58):
Seattle Mariners when the All Star breakcame. And now the All Star ring
has come and gone, as hastheir last trip to Seattle, and they
went out there Friday and Saturday night, took care of business to the point
that as you heard it here andI hope everywhere, because everyone should know
math whoever won the series is goingto be in first place when it ended,
and by virtue of winning the firsttwo games, the Astros won the
series. Weren't able to complete thesweep yesterday, a limited offense, one
(03:22):
big mistake in the late innings, allowing a three run homer, and they
are in Oakland now hoping to maintaintheir spot in first place just for the
next sixty three games. Well, everybody is playing a crappy team. That
is the top three teams in thedivision. I beg to differ. Oh,
come on, even though it's gonnasound ridiculous, all right, let's
hear it. The A's aren't terrible, that's true. The A's record is
(03:46):
terrible, and it's over the courseof the season. Those those are the
facts. But you're not playing theA's that went on this long losing streak.
You're not playing the A's that wenttwenty games under five hundred. You're
playing the July A's. The JulyA's are awesome. The Astros are ten
and six in July. The A'sare nine and six in July. Guess
which team in Major League Baseball hasscored more runs than all of the others.
(04:09):
The Oakland A's. They're absolutely mashingno matter who their competition has been
so far. Hopefully they don't knowwhat they're in for with Spencer Arrighetty,
Jake Bloss, Hunter Brown and therest of the Astros bullpen. But to
give credit where the facts suggest thatwe must, the Oakland A's are not
pushovers. They just simply haven't beenfor the better part of the last two
(04:30):
three weeks and have played both levelsof competition. No, you're right,
they just finished up with the Angels. I understand what level they're on,
but they also played much better teams, like the eighteen spot they put on
the Phillies during this month. They'vescored five or more runs in all but
three games this month. It's weird. They took two out of three from
the Phillies, and even though theylost the prior to series to the Orioles
(04:51):
in the Red Sox, they didn'tget swept in either of them. And
when they did win again nineteen onthe Orioles, twelve on the Red Sox
in a or No, I'd saynine against the Red Sox and a loss
so they I mean, yeah,it's I wish the Astros were playing some
other version of the Oakland A's,the one that the Astros already beat six
(05:12):
out of seven times so far, they would be more phenomenal. Even the
team that Seattle is gonna play andthe games news about that. While they
have been scoring runs and obviously winningnine out of fifteen is pretty awesome for
a team at the bottom of thedivision. Their pitching has been as expected.
They are still giving up runs, they are still fairly easy to hit.
The Astros have hit fairly well inOakland over this time where Oakland is
(05:33):
not trying to win games, butrather see how little they can take with
them to Sacramento. Remember, thistrip to Oakland is rather special considering where
the A's will be moving to eventually, but initially, Yeah, Sacramento to
Vegas is where they're headed. Theylike every other team, and there aren't
that many, but they like everyother team that's not in the race.
(05:54):
It's worth watching their teams play andwatching their pitchers pitch and wonder who they're
going to be pitching and hitting foras we move forward. That's one other
thing about the Seattle series that justwrapped up, something Jeff and I talked
about when Jeff Blumb was with uson Friday. This was the last time
we think the Astros are going tobe able to take advantage of the Mariner's
pathetic offense because we think they recognizetheir problems. It's pretty obvious. It's
(06:18):
right there in the statistic. Youguys suck, you can't score runs,
you have terrible hitters who strike outall the time. I think when they
finally meet in the second to lastseries of the season again, the A
Mariners probably will have done something toaugment their team. A bigger question here
for us is as we get closerto the late July trade deadline, will
(06:40):
the Astros still make something happen. What is it that they think they can
get with what they have to offer. Well, here's the thing. Even
if they do, and Blummer andTodd Kallis were talking about this on the
broadcast yesterday. On the television side, you and we've talked about this.
We've compared big trades in the NBA, for example, versus Major League Baseball.
(07:01):
Particularly when it comes to a bat. It's just not the same as
if you get a stud that's goingto be one fifth of your starting lineup
in the NBA, or even iflike the Astros did in twenty seventeen,
you go out and get a JustinVerlander, Because I think a stud pitcher
is going to make in a lotof senses, a bigger immediate impact even
(07:23):
though he only plays every five days. Are you going to argue that that
essentially is what they're doing again thisyear, acquiring Justin Verlander around the deadline.
Oh, I basically probably will be. Well, they're right after the
month turns to August. I bethopefully they're acquiring Kyle Tucker first. That's
the big acquisition right now. Well, he's doing some baseball things, and
stop telling you know what, justcan you tell us anything? They're being
(07:46):
accurate. He is doing baseball things. I've seen him on the field multiple
times, both in person when wewere out at the yard on Friday before
the break hit, and then againduring this road trip. He's been yucking
it up with Chaz and Jake andthe rest of the guys. He has
his glove on, He's wearing thetypical pre actual game time gear, you
know, his warm up tee,his white pants. Does he occasionally rub
(08:07):
dirt on his uniform just to teaseus all? Well? He usually he
has been known in the past torub dirt on his his ungloved hands when
he bats hands right. He's kindof gotten away from that because there's just
not time to do that anymore. And we're in the batter's box. That's
what we haven't seen, and it'spretty good. We know what the mechanics
of his swing are, and maybehis as much as any along with yourd
(08:30):
ons. If your leg is youknow, fractured, then it's probably hard
to swing. It's probably hard tohave the omph in your swing, the
balance in your swing, that stepyou take for your swing. Uh,
I get it. It's just amazing, unfortunate how long it's been. He
has spoken finally about this over thelast couple of weeks, and I don't
think it's a long ways off unlessthere's a setback, unless he goes and
(08:52):
really actually you know, takes realhacks in the cage, is really running
the bases, because we've seen, you know, guys run the bases when
they're unheldal or testing it. AndI haven't really seen anybody have a setback.
It was just the other week whenwe were there and Jordan was doing
it. I think it was latelast year. We saw Mike Trout trying
to return from injury, and sothey had him out on the field at
Minute Made Park just running the bases. Just seeing are the turns clean?
(09:15):
Is he going to wake up finethe next day? Is he really ready
to go? We think he's readyto go, and this is among the
last tests. Amazing they've been ableto play at this high of a level
eighteen and seven over their last twentyfive games. He's missed their last thirty
eight games, and they've obviously playedtremendously well to put themselves atop the division.
The scoreboard watching still matters if youthink there's an outside chance, and
(09:35):
there is definitely mathematically speaking that itisn't just the spot atop the division that
will earn one team in this divisiona playoff berth because they are just a
couple of days worth of good baseballaway from the Royals, the Red Sox,
and the Twins, who are currentlyat the bottom of the wild card
race. For is still the Yankees, although they look like they want to
(09:58):
be part of the whole group. They don't want to be in front of
the of the pack. They wantto be part of the pack by losing
as often as they have. Youknow, Detroit's not too far behind.
Detroit's not too far behind, SoI do think there's a possibility if the
Astros again. Scoreboard watching is fun. Who do we want to win?
Who do we want to lose? The Astros take care of their own business,
like they have for more than halfof the season, way more than
(10:20):
half of the season so far. They're not a bad team anymore. This
just going to make the playoffs again, and quite honestly, they're most likely
if they continue this, and there'sno reason to think they won't, they're
gonna win the division. If theywin to the Vision and they make the
postseason, I just can't. Andagain, you gotta actually do something once
the postseason gets here. But ofall of the teams, all of the
(10:43):
teams that would be in this postseason, including the Dodgers, including the Braves,
including some teams in the American Leagueif you want to look at,
none of them are gonna have theexperience that most of these Astros have.
And that's probably the most exciting, slash peculiar part of this whole weird season
that we have had here. Yep, this is when they play their best
(11:05):
baseball, usually when their backs areagainst the wall, whether it's been in
a postseason series or quite honestly, when you only win seven times in your
first twenty six games of a seasonlike they did this year. We're still
twelve games under thirty six games intothe season. So Astro's topics. Obviously,
we got quite a few to getto, specifically about tonight's game,
and we'll hit it on the Texans. The running back they traded for,
(11:26):
they extended and they're essentially turning overtheir running game two. Not on the
practice field Saturday, not on thepractice field today. An update on Joe
Mixon back to Adam Clinton had AdamWexler, the eighteen on Sports Talk seven
ninety eight team continues, wexnac backtogether again as we get you through another
(11:52):
week here flipped over to the secondhalf of the calendar here in twenty twenty
four, and that obviously means footballseason has a right I have to go
along with baseball season. Just wrappedup summer basketball season. Was answering somebody's
question about the timing of the basketballseason. How come they're still they're back
on the court and this I'm like, well, you realize they're back on
(12:13):
the court for about ten days. There's only five games, and very few
of the players that were out insummer league, especially for the team we
call Houston's team the Rockets. Veryfew of those players are gonna have significant
contributions to the Rockets this year. Two of them probably will Reach Shepherd and
Cam Witmore, neither of whom sawaction in all of their games. But
the Rockets team, well, haven'tplayed since April and they're not gonna play
(12:35):
till October. It actually is avery long off season in basketball, even
though for your team, if you'reone of the ten that doesn't make it,
if you make it into the finals, or if you're paying attention to
basketball, well, yeah, theyplayed till June. Immediately, all the
offseason activities happen. The finals getplayed, the draft happens, free agency
is open, and summer league goesoff, all within a month, and
(12:58):
then you hang out and don't haveany for several months at a time.
And that's where we are with theNBA. Obviously. The Astros about to
finish the second of their two serieson the road to open up the second
part of their season, Game onehundred Tonight, Spencer Arraghetti will get the
ball for the Astros, making hiseighteenth start of the season, surprising how
much they have needed him, andagain he has come through a little bit
(13:22):
more often than not here of latehanded them the quality start here last time
around, an opportunity to give hima win and an opportunity to get their
third win. Post All Star Breakcomes tonight, they do sit in first
place by percentage points. If theyplayed two fewer games than the Mariners at
this point in the season, Marinershave an additional win and an additional loss.
Obviously, two of those losses handedto the Astros. Another thing that
(13:45):
happened this weekend in the three gameseries is the Astros prevented the Mariners from
clinching the season series against the Astros. They came in having won five of
the first seven meetings and now they'vewon six of the ten meetings. And
Astros sweep of the Mariners later thisyear, probably because of the three games
in the standings, it would earnthem probably would win them the division anyway
(14:07):
if they hadn't already done so,but it would also give them the tiebreaker
if it came to that. Sogood that they did go in there did
carry a little bit of momentum, and we come into today off of a
loss. That is the most importantthing. Doesn't mean it wasn't fun to
listen to or watch Jordan Alvarez hita single and a double and a triple
(14:28):
and a homer. You know whatI was interested in as it pertains to
that particular play of the four youjust mentioned. Todd and Blummer lost their
minds on that home run. Theyreally did as they should have. Yes,
we all did. Step was likeRobert and Steve. After Steve called
(14:48):
it, Robert noted, and Steveagreed. I don't think in all the
games we were right here in Seattle, we have ever seen a ball hit
that far. No, and it'sI mean it is eighty four feet according
to Statka be as b As.There is no way that doesn't have a
four in front of it and maybea five. Okay, I'm probably getting
a little two carried away. Imean I watched it, and actually I
(15:11):
was. I'm multitask at times whenI'm watching the games, and sometimes the
games on the big screen. Sometimesit is, you know, accompanied by
a sponsor here on the show, let's put it that way, And I'm
watching it on my phone and Ijust happened to be doing that at the
time, and I was fumbling withsomething because the little guy wanted to play
video games on the big screen. That's what happens in my life. I
(15:33):
have this giant screen. He bogartsit, and I'm watching the game that
you know I have to watch forwork. WEX. You understand this is
very hard. I understand, andI'm on this very very small screen the
story of my life. So Ihear the reaction before I actually see it,
and I mean, yeah, bothof them again lost their minds as
well they should have. It wasjust a It was a bomb, and
(15:56):
it just stinks that it came ina loss. Here's the thing, though,
if not for one swing against oneSeth Martinez, we're probably still playing
extras right now. Way these twoteams pitch, Yeah, I did not
have a very good outing coming inin relief of the at four the Astros
yesterday, Renal Blanco, like fromberof Valdez the day before, going five
and two thirds, he essentially didn'tretire anybody. They got out of the
(16:18):
inning when they tried to steal abase and the Astros threw the runner out,
very alto of them. It justwell, I mean, it's not
an unreasonable time to go try tosteal a base while the pitcher's struggling,
you might not want to let himoff the hook. And all two they
got thrown out too, By theway, I should say, just to
be fair, did he not duringthat game? Or am I thinking of
a different game? I mean hewas. He was definitely doubled off when
Alex Bregman lined out too. Thatwas I still don't know what happened.
(16:41):
Could you please explain it to me, like I'm five, Well, what
happened is I was at a catch. It wasn't a catch, which is
so I said, doubled off.He was part of a double play.
It was just a typical six fourto three, just didn't look very typical
because the ball looked like it couldhave or should have been caught by JP
Crawford. That's clearly what Dubon atthird and Altuve at first thought. So
(17:03):
Altuva immediately put on the brakes sohe could get back to first before he
would get doubled off. But Crawfordjust simply biffed it. He did not
catch a line drive that hit himright in the glove without him really even
having to move his feet. Soit made it for an even easier double
play by just flipping the second andeasily throwing out Bregnant. I feel like
there should be a penalty for that. You sucked at fielding. Why should
they have to pay? He's anexceptionally good and he had a very bad
(17:29):
fielding week and the Mariners had avery poor fielding. One of the best
plays they made unfortunately turned into thattriple. And I say unfortunately because Julio
Rodriguez got hurt on that play.He caught the ball clear as day.
Does he have ankle discomfort? Hejust unfortunately hit the wall, and so
it's not a like an NFL,it's not a completed can he tore the
wall? Did he tore it withhis other foot? He actually, I
think he pulled some of the styrofoamor whatever the patting is out there on
(17:52):
to the ground. He did havediscomfort. The other part of it is
when you get hurt like that andyou're not gonna take the cart and you're
in dead center field, that isa very very long time consuming walk.
Bullpens thought that was a long walkthat he took back to their dugout,
But the X rays and everything lookedpretty good. You want to see the
(18:14):
rising stars in baseball play as oftenas possible. Obviously, it might not
help the Astros to have him outthere, but he is a fun player
to watch, and I was extremelyexcited about his reaction to the no fly
zone. Yes that tree Cavage gave. That is why I said, way
back, once upon a time, before I left town for a week,
how much I love Julio Rodriguez wasgone last week. I barely noticed.
(18:36):
Honestly, it was fast, itreally. I mean, when you're you
know, a time flies, whenyou're having fun all that. But I
was. I was glad because youwould think that at least one of us
would take off the MLB All StarBreak every year. It's just convenient.
I can't which one. Yeah, well, rock paper scissors for next season.
I just cannot believe I haven't takenthat week off more. I think
(18:59):
I did it one other time, and it was back in twenty seventeen when
they had just finished up I believein Anaheim, and they went to the
All Star Break and they had thebest record it definitely in the American League,
but if not in Baseball at thetime, and they would go on
to win the World Series. AndI wound up flying to Anaheim, where
they had just been because I wasgoing to Disney, and that's the only
other time that I've not been onvacation and yet still at least if like
(19:25):
I'm out of the country or along ways away listening on the iHeartRadio app
free by the way, and youcan hear all the games. I didn't
have to do that this time.I didn't have to keep track until late
Friday night. We know, whenI had to get up at four o'clock
in the morning the next day andthey were playing a nine ten start on
the West Coast. Great job bymyself scheduling that. The only other note
probably worth watching the next couple ofdays is ty Frantz was put on waivers
(19:51):
by the mirrors. You noticed. He wasn't even in their lineup the other
day. Had to come in whenJulio Rodriguez was hurt. His season numbers
are poor. His recent numbers areunbelievably bad. He's hitting one fifty seven
since the end of May. Thereyou would kill for that. I mean,
there are reasons why Seattle, whohas very bad offense, is giving
(20:11):
up and just it's time for themto give one of their younger players.
A prospect who's been up a littlebit and now probably gets a lot more
of a look now, even asthey're fully in this race, they don't.
It's it's kind of like it islike what a bray you here?
When a bread was hitting so poorly, so was the rest of the team.
So we're individuals, so there wasthey can't let everybody do it all
(20:32):
today they had to do something. The Astros obviously had to no longer put
a braid on the lineup, andnow ty France no longer has an opportunity
to help a team that he obviouslywas a big part of them being in
compete or competing with the Astros Posessionthree year, he does play first base.
These splits this year are a nicematch with John Singleton. Singleton has
much better splits against right handed pitching. Ty France has much better splits against
(20:56):
left handed pitching, though for mostof his career there's barely been any difference,
and quite honestly, the only realdifference is the reason he's likely available
is he simply has not been hittingat all. A one fifty seven clip
for seven weeks with one homer. That's bad offensive player, I mean a
pinch hitter. He's a good defensiveplayer. He does get on base a
lot because he likes to get hitby the baseball. He's led the league
(21:17):
twice in the last three years.Just something I think that this team will
likely have to consider a real followthrough on the t's we'll talk about what
is going on with Joe Mixon inthe Houston Texans next. No need for
a roadmap win. All roads leadto that sweet iHeart radio app, Astros
and Rockets games plus legendary Houston SportsTalks seven ninety on any device with the
(21:42):
free iHeartRadio app. Now that's theart of living the eighteen Continuing here on
Sports Talk seven ninety. All right, I'll cut right to the chase.
I will go full blown, overthe top hyperbole. This is for sports
(22:04):
talk radio consumption. Is Joe Mixonalready a bus signing? So the Texans
yesterday reportedly added a running back andthen clearly, based on their transaction report
and the fact that he was inuniform today holding the football and running and
catching the football, they did infact sign cam Akers. He was on
the practice field today wearing one ofthe new twenty two jerseys issued to the
(22:29):
team today. Considering the offense Whar'sblue. He was in a blue twenty
two Phillips Jacob able to continue wearinghis white twenty two at practice. Thank
god. Yes, no confusion,But now you start playing the I know
matth Let's see if twenty two plustwo doesn't equal twenty eight. So they
just signed a running back and JoeMixon did not practice Saturday, and Joe
(22:52):
Mixon did not practice today, well, then clearly there's something very very wrong
that this is now the time theywould go get cam Akers. Acres got
a roster spot when they waved withthe injury designation Jared Wayne, so they
clearly agreed with me, you haveway too many receivers for any reasonable playing
time and competition for all the guysyou brought in. They just added Quintest
(23:14):
Siphas just before training camp started. There's too many of them, and they
lessened to that number by one.Technically have seven running backs now on the
roster, which is also a prettylofty number. But when one of them
is Joe Mixon and he is notpracticing, now, he's got the same
number of practices under his belt aspractice has missed under his belt. They've
practiced four times and he's not participatedin either of the last two. Was
(23:36):
not seen on the field on Saturdayor today, but he also talked to
us after Friday's practice practice Thursday infull practice. Friday in full was one
of the three players designated to speakwith the media at their tent podium,
and he did so and everything wasperfectly fine. He was perfectly good mood,
everything seemed totally normal, as didhis walk back across the field after.
(24:00):
And thus, when he was notthere Saturday, I thought, is
it possible they're trying to turn thisinto two days off in a row because
they don't have practice on Sunday.Well, when he wasn't there today and
they signed cam Acres, yes, that question became a much more popular one.
I certainly think it's worthwhile to notecam Akers was not in camp with
the Texans or anybody else, right, and there are thirty two teams.
(24:23):
So if you're trying to tell methey signed cam Acres because they need someone
to take up the number one role, should it not be Joe's? Should
it not be Damian Pierce's, Iwould put a huge, huge pause on
that, especially considering he has almostas many I don't know what he has
two of besides Achilles injuries. Butthat's where I was headed. Two major
(24:45):
achilles injuries, and he's also recoveredfrom both of them at an outrageously fast
clip. It was only November oflast year when the second of his Achilles
injuries knocked him off the field, and now the Texans are giving him that
opportunity, worked him out and himout there. We saw him on the
field, like I mentioned, hasbeen very good out of the backfield,
has at times been explosive, bringsanother player from the Sean McVay rams offensive
(25:07):
background to this team, just likeBen Scronic. So I get the thought.
In my opinion, the answer isno. But certainly it was worthwhile
to hear what the head coach hadto say when asked about the reason behind
Joe Mixon not practicing Saturday or today. Yeah, Jo Joe'll be fine.
Joe may miss a little time,but he'll he'll be fine. Joe's toughest
competitive as we have a right,so I'm not worried about Joe. He'll
(25:30):
be fine. No issues there.I think that's okay for us to actually
believe him at five days into trainingcamp, when their padded practices consistently missed
when we don't see him out thereon the side field, when there hasn't
been a much more definitive reason why. And if you think the Astros are
(25:52):
bad, this is the NFL.It's just about this. This is training
camp. They don't have to tellyou, and they and Demico we found
out very quickly last year. Yetthere's no reason for him too. It
doesn't help him, it's not necessary. People can dig and maybe get an
answer from the player or from anagent or from some other source, but
it isn't going to come from him. It's more of an opportunity for Damian
(26:14):
Pierce. Would really, really reallylook bad on the Texans if this player
who's been super, super durable overhis seven years with Cincinnati came here with
a newly extended contract and there wassomething of significance wrong with him very early
in his time here. I didpoint out to somebody who asked me that
very question, should we be worriedabout Joe Mixon or when is it time
to be worried? I pointed out, we got forty eight days till they
(26:37):
take the first nap against the Colts, and that's, you know, going
back to what you said about howDemiko and I guess to a larger extent,
the Texans themselves and any organization handlesthese types of things. It is
like the first handful of days. This kind of stuff happens to guys all
the time, to be fair, but if it is something major, you're
(26:57):
gonna find out pretty quick. Andlike I said, if it is something
major, I don't know where ithappened because it didn't happen on the practice
off the plane, well, therewas no summer vacation. He was on
the practice deal practically with zero issuesfor the first two practices and finished the
second of those two practices with avisit with the media. Everything I can
(27:18):
tell you very confidently because I alsodidn't see him hop off the field.
I didn't see him talking. True, I didn't see anything, And if
that had happened, there's a reasonablechance the media would have just said,
we're just gonna give you somebody else. Today's gonna head inside for treatment.
None of those things happened. Now, I can tell you that Joe Mixon,
who's I don't know how we gradeactive or super active or absent from
(27:40):
social media, he seems like he'skind of active. If you follow him
on Instagram, you'll see a storyfrom him. It seems like fairly regularly,
not necessarily every day, but fromtime to time done not a lot
of posts on his Instagram feed, but stories and when a player's heard,
I feel I might as well checkas he posted anything about this. We're
all guests. I don't know what'sgoing on. The answer is yes,
(28:02):
he did post a story between hislast time on the field and as we
sit here today at three thirty ninepm on a Monday, you mean a
Texans running back posted about I didn'tsay what he posted about. Oh,
I just said he posted I was. I immediately thought of Arian Foster posting
his MRI and then criticized football players. That was basically a big black picture
(28:25):
with an X ray and that wasprior to his achilles. What Joe posted
is a you know, the blackbackground style Instagram posts where you're really just
sending a message out to everybody youhave. Maybe you have a question or
you're making a statement. Man,I love these astros. Sure it's fun
to watch, man, this isfootball seasons here, let's go. He
did tweet that, But here's whatJoe sent out on his Instagram story.
(28:47):
Uh, sometime in the last Idon't know, twenty six hours or so.
I need a chef in Houston.Somebody point me in the right direction,
please. He's definitely done for theseason, So you think that's a
foreboding sign. I put it thisway. Do you say, maybe he
has a stomach virus because he atepoorly and now he's looking to correct that.
That can happen to people. Maybehe got food poisoning because he wasn't
(29:10):
following a proper diet, because youknow how hard that can be when you
are a running back for an NFLfootball team. Maybe he needs more pickle
juice in his life. A lahJohn Madden. Yeah, I haven't even
seen like, oh my gosh, these first four days of camp, and
today the sun was out for alittle of it. These have been the
most pleasant weather days in an actualtraining camp literally I can ever remember.
(29:32):
I've been to every single training campthis team has had, even the ones
at freaking Greenbrier, which were alsovery pleasant, but at the front side
of camp in the middle now ofJuly, because they started it was in
the low eighties, high seventies withnice breeze going out there on Thursday and
Friday. There was a huge cloudcover on Saturday without rain, and today
was a little less cloud cover.Rain was on the way. But I
(29:55):
mean, if the rest of trainingcamp went like this, it'd be unbelievable.
Around eleven am Saturday and it wasdownright pleasant when we finally got outside.
And it took a while to getthere because you know, international terminals
and whatnot customs. But yeah,I was like, what is this.
This is July in Houston, crazycrazy stuff. Yeah, something Stefan Diggs
actually touched on earlier today and itwas pointed in the right direction on that
(30:15):
by a lot of members of themedia. We'll get to that as we
continue the worry or not about JoeMixon. That conversation continues here on a
Monday edition of The A Team.WEX back here with you. Let me

(31:48):
It is the eighteen wex and ACwith you on a Monday edition of
the program. Dan Matthews, theShowkiller, is our producer as we take
care up until six o'clock tonight.Astros starting a three game set out west
with if the Oakland Athletics. Whoelse is it with? What do you
mean it's also with a ledmis dsOh yeah, that was, like,
(32:09):
okay, a lot of He hasbeen selected to the roster after spending a
little bit of time in their FloridaComplex League getting his abs in. After
a miserable small portion of the seasonwith Oakland where he got three hits and
twenty nine at bats, he iswith the team on the roster now Greg
Kester heads to sugar Land, wherehe will, as Dana Brown suggests in
(32:30):
the last few days, get regularat bats rather than getting the best seats
in the house to watch the Astrosplay, and he gets a uniform every
day despite never playing, in orderto get a ledmis Diz on the forty
man roster unless the active roster DavidHensley designated for assignments. Okay, so
h A ledmis Diaz is one ofthose names where you see it, you
(32:52):
automatically have an affinity for the two. The twenty twenty two championship team he
was a part of. That wasvery much part of the good morning video.
He said good morning. Then hesaid something he's not supposed to say,
and you know, FCC regulated network, But it's okay because it was
social media. But always a guywhere it was like and he was one
(33:13):
of those guy. Do you rememberand you've probably noticed this along the way.
I know I have. When certainplayers depart certain ones, there's much
hand ringing during this time, andI think he was one of those people.
I think Jose Siri was. Ionly bring his name up because he's
in the news today for pimping ahome run against the Yankees. Judge.
(33:37):
It's weird. I mean, Ican't believe he finally started pimping his homers.
I can't believe he's out of nowhereJose career. He is actually excited
when baseball. He hit four hundredfeet. I have never seen that before.
Nobody gave the memo to Aaron Judge. Apparently he was very upset.
Give up a home run and nobodywill pimp it. It's not hard,
(33:57):
but home runs are gonna happen. How about just under stand the game a
little bit. It's he did takea longng stride. He stopped at third
base. I don't care. Thatbothered me. So, Yeah, guys
like Siria, guys like Leeddenmis there'sa bunch of others when you go through,
yeah, seven years of visiting eitherthe World Series or all of them
visiting the Alcyes. There's a lotof players the fans tend to think very
(34:20):
highly of, maybe even more highlythan the level of their production, would
you say, is at the topof that list, And they're all the
same to some extent, meaning they'renot that good. They were contributors,
maybe big contributors in some way, shape or form, to key moments during
this run of seven years you justmentioned seven plus years. I think we
can start saying that maybe the firstplace so far they haven't not made it
(34:45):
right. But like you know, there are guys along the way like that
that who's at the top of thatlist. There's it's not it's I don't
think it's a leaden. I mean, well, there's a reason if you're
really opening it up to the fullgroup of players who've left. I hope
it's not a lot miss considering Koreais playing elsewhere, Springer is playing elsewhere.
(35:05):
Guys that aren't going out and gettingbig money from a bigger money from
other team, a pretty surprisingly, pretty good deal to leave the Astros,
one that he could never say noto for very he probably falls in that
group. But there's so many MarwinGonzalez. I mean we probably got a
list, which is awesome. He'sprobably at the top of the list.
And I don't mean he was thebest player. I mean the amount of
(35:28):
outrage I'm not even saying that likethat's a true seems a bit hard.
No, there's people like people arelike, oh, how could you let
him go? I mean, hehit the biggest home run in Astros history.
He maybe did. That doesn't meanhe's that guy. He if he
was that guy every night, youwouldn't have let him walk. Yeah,
these guys have all played similar roles, and Marwins, I do think is
(35:49):
a little bit different. You know, led Miss Diaz never had a season
and we're talking about twenty seventeen. For Marwin, for many reasons, it
was very very good for him.He had a ninety RBI season. He's
guys are Dubond's not going to dothat, Mariznik's not going to do that.
The Ledmis obviously is not going todo that, even if given the
opportunity. I just don't believe thatwould be the case. So just be
out there for far too many gamesthan you'd want them to. And I
(36:09):
actually think you see that the morethese guys play. Sometimes it's a four
or five week stretch where it seemslike they can hold their own. And
you remember the beginning of this year, Marisio du bond was so good with
runners in scoring positions, one ofthe league's best, both in that regard
and even his overall batting average. It was such a huge part of trying
to help this offense in any waycould he could when nobody else was doing
(36:30):
anything. And then he's gotten moreregular playing time for both how he played
and how many guys they needed tonot play, whether it was finding somebody
to play first, or having somebodyplay because Chas McCormick's hitting one eighty or
whatever. Now Kyle Tucker's been outfor seven weeks. You know, Diaz
coming back is actually more about theydon't mind having a player on the bench
(36:52):
every day. I hope that doesn'tplay when he's a veteran, when they
know he'll be ready to go ina moment's notice, to play defense,
to hit in a pinch, tobe a pinch hitter. I don't know
for sure, but I could saywith reasonable A reasonable guess is if Ledmis
Daz had been with the team forthe last ten days and gotten two or
(37:12):
three at bats. He could haveactually been the pinch hitter of choice for
John Singleton when you had a coupleof runners on in yesterday's game and you
chose Chas McCormick, and three pitcheslater he had struck out. I'm not
saying it's good or bad. I'mjust saying that's where they'll use it.
Dand Brown was very clear about this, I thought when he answered questions about
why you signed a ledmis Dz toa minor league deal, he basically said
(37:35):
not in so many words, GreigHessinger's like wasting his time. He's not
getting regular at bats because Joe neverplays him, and he shouldn't. He's
insurance for us and we just haven'thad any reason to put him out there.
He's also he didn't say this,but it's true. He's also zero
for fifteen this year and hasn't shownany ability to hit major league pitching in
his brief stints last year or thisyear. Senator triple A. And now
(37:57):
they have somebody at least they feelcomfortable. You're only needed in a pinch
roll while it's a veteran who canhandle it and Clearly he fits in with
this clubhouse, I say, andthe clubhouse loves him, and why wouldn't
they If you've ever been around theguy, he's great. I mean,
he's just one of those guys. But again, his offense has been on
a very clear and steady decline fromhis last years in Houston to his two
years away. Do you think therewas even a phone call? You think
(38:20):
there was even a discussion in thebuilding about ty Frantz Given the position that
they have a weakness at there's twothings to consider. You put an acclaim
on him. You take on thecontract that he still owed for the rest
of the year, which is nota ton. If you don't, you
run the risk that he just choosesto play elsewhere and it's given a better
opportunity elsewhere. And I'm not evensure that they're wanting to do that if
(38:40):
they think it in any way financiallyspeaking, potentially keeps them from making the
actual move they want to make.If they were in line to go find
a first basement or a stick,then maybe they don't. I'm not sure
what kind of offerings they Again,I just get back to every GM and
every assistant GM and every scout forthe thirty one other teams or the twenty
(39:00):
three that are in the race, they're looking at the Astros system, and
they're looking at the surplus of outfielderswhen healthy this team has. Who are
they going to want that will netthe Astros a difference making player, because
for the most part, those arethe deals that usually either put you over
the top or this team tends tomake. Could be a Man Senior Vasquez
deal or Francisco Leriano deal, orit could be the other. And France
(39:22):
is even lower than those, justbecause the facts are what they are.
Could you find lightning in a bottle? He should not be over the hill,
but he is hitting so badly.Change scenery, such a long scenery.
And by the way, I getwhy they said bye to get Seattle.
But yeah, but okay, whodid the Seattle Mariners just pick up
who had done nothing for his largeamount of time he had played for another
(39:46):
team? Yeah? I didn't putthis out anywhere on social media, so
you just have to take my wordfor it. When I saw the lineup
yesterday, the way that Scott Servishad put it together, I thought,
well, the Astros are only goingto be in trouble when Victor Robless is
up, Josh Rojas is up,and Dylan Moore is up. These are
the only three guys, all ofwhom are awful, absolute scrub, but
(40:06):
they cannot get them out often enough. That turd something yesterday freaking can't stand
that guy. And you were talkingabout Victor Roebliss, who the national said,
well, we were not winning,You're not. Can't blame them.
And these are the types of playersyou give a ty France is definitely getting
He's gonna have another major league opportunityin the next week's time. Why not
(40:28):
go get him? It would makeit seems to make sense for the Astros
to give make a make that areel. He'd be a little motivated by
the way, Yes he would, just saying those two his former team and
his current team are playing for somethingvery very coveted, the AL West Division
championship. All Right, we willcome back with the four o'clock hour and
I'll update on you know who forthe Astros. Two lifelong Houston sports guys
(40:53):
named at him talking your Teams series, Adam and Adam Wexler are the A
team A team Power Number two isunderway here on Sports Talks seven ninety It
is a Monday edition of the ATeam. Holy Cow, it's already the
(41:14):
end of July. Basically, allright, we got a week or so,
but just because of everything going on, and I mean everything, wex
over there ac right here, DanMatthews is the show Killer camp is underway
early for the Texans, like aweek early. The Astros are in first
place basically the day they start playingpost All Star Break, Reached Shepherds tearing
(41:36):
it up in the Summer League,if you want to throw that in there.
It just feels like that this summer, especially all of a sudden,
and man, on more than oneoccasion, I said to you off and
on the air, this is goingto be a long summer. When the
Astros were absolute dog bleep earlier inthe year, I mean, and I'm
it was bad. It was notjust oh, this is just going through
a rough patch. Okay. Ifthe rough patch is like a month and
(41:59):
a half and you're double digit gamesunder five hundred and out of first place
or both, it's just it's crazyhow fast things are going all of a
sudden, and about if you're liketen games out in the middle of June,
like they were. Hey, theseguys made up ten games in twenty
four days. I mean that isthat's electric and that's not just all Well,
(42:23):
the Seattle Mariners are just terrible. They got it. The Astros won
eighteen, it's six. You're notjust if you're not winning it as a
batter, right, you take careof your own business. So the summer
has it. Now we're going toenjoy the rest of the summer because we
have Texans, because we have teamschasing the Astros. Like seemingly everything's back
to norma. They're gonna get thebest player available in baseball back before the
(42:47):
deadline. I think, let's Ihope. I think he'll be back before
either of the other two players thatcould make that comment not quite right.
When's the deadline? Oh, thedeadlines day before the last day of the
month, because it hits on atime where Major League Baseball doesn't want teams
worried about. Well, I havea game in the afternoon today, I'm
not sure what to do? Uhdo we play a game? Do?
(43:08):
What do we what do we wantto do here? Well? Do they
have thirty one days in July?So it's on the thirty Why I think
July, oh, June has thirtyI can never remember. You know your
rhymes? How you know things? That's the only way you can remember.
There's a song for this one,Yeah, I mean more sing song.
I don't know if it's a realtune, but what is it? Go
whatever? Will have thirty months, day, have thirty one day? I
(43:29):
don't remember how it goes. Butthat's you can't bring up those songs about
Those are the ones that are goingor shorter and the ones that good.
You know, there's a lot ofways to do. Is this like when
you talk about being inside or outsideof iten and it makes no sense.
But I haven't had a conversation likethat since yesterday when I was talking to
someone about where something was and howyou get there and things like that.
Say that, well, they're inmy family, they're expecting it. This
(43:51):
like of all the things that wayand Wex is very smart human being.
I don't know if you guys havenoticed that pretty much not in everyone.
He pretty much knows everything except basicgeography and getting around the city of Houston.
It's a It's not abnormal for someoneto say, yeah, we go
north here and get there and thenI'll say, how do you know how
do you know that you realize? How is that? How do you know
it is north? How do youknow we're going north? How do you
(44:13):
know that that is to the side. How do you know that you know?
What? You remind me? Idon't even I am sitting in my
house and someone will say, yeah, we need to go there, or
we're headed there, and I'll tryto point in the direction that that restaurant
is or that no it's not,it's over there, right, Okay,
So you know you remind me ofI was in school. I was good
at basically two things, talking andwriting boom, that's it, chewing gum
(44:36):
and taking names that I was allat a gum every day. So I
had Okay, when you start,if you don't do the smart thing,
and yes, I'm absolutely saying this, and anybody can take me up on
this advice, or you can wasteyour money. Take your basics at a
community college before you waste your moneyand your parents' time and money. So
go to the go to the communitycollege into school. Everybody's doing it,
(44:58):
even athletes, because again you're gonnahave to take your basics anyways, you
might as well pay less for them, and you know, get drunk in
familiar areas anyway, people, Yeah, not me, So anyways, I
would I would take these classes inmy first couple of semesters of college that
were just your your entry level, like college algebra. This is this is
terrible. I hate it. Whyam I taking this? I'm never gonna
(45:20):
use it. I can tell youthis right now. Look at my major.
This isn't even high school. I'mtelling you I'm not gonna use this
because I'm a broadcast journalism major. We don't do math. The only math
we do is when we do sports, and it's statistics statistics, so we
don't use you know, algebra one, two, three, twelve. We
don't use that in any walk oflife. And oh, by the way,
(45:42):
neither do ninety eight percent of therest of society. But I digress.
So all these kids that I'm takingclasses with in algebra, in you
know, psychology or whatever these basicclasses are, they're all getting a's.
I'm like, just grinding to notstudy and get a C. I don't
care. I want the credit.I'm not here for a GPA. And
then we all go to English classand there's a lot all these papers do
(46:05):
about books that you may or maynot read, depending on what you do
with your time. Of course,I wasn't reading them, and I'm getting
a's on all the papers and thelike. How are you doing this?
So what's the method? Well?I do want to know. Was it
cliff notes? Was it assistance helpingyou study? Did you have a tutor
writing your papers for you? Now, if somebody go into class with your
ida and sit in your seat, how'd you man? I don't want to
out you, but statute of limitationsis way past. I'm forty three years
(46:30):
old. I got my degree, but I'm just wondering how many other ways
I haven't thought of. Well, there's no take backs ees here, Sam
Houston State. Do you know howmany people I wrote papers for? I
made a to I'm gonna set theover under out a half and I'll take
the under. You would never dothat. I don't care. I don't
care. There's way more shady stuffgoing on in our government, by the
way, than anything like this yougot. Do you guys realize that each
(46:52):
of the last couple of weeks,we've basically not had any shows together because
either I was out or their workshows or he was out, and I'm
almost afraid for next weekend because Idon't know what in the political world is
going to happen next week. Ilanded after each of the last two weekends
has happened. Not a huge topicon our show, obviously, but it
(47:15):
drips in here and there. Ilanded and I got to So because of
Beryl, barrel sucks. Okay, you guys know right still, everybody knows
it had hit Cancun, where Iwas before it came to our fair city,
and so because of that trickled downeffect, there was some damage to
some rooms, which meant our roomactually wasn't available at the resort we were
(47:37):
going to stay at. I know, first world problems. So they go,
all right, we're gonna compy this, this, this, and this
and this if you go stay atthis one right down the road that's affiliated
with us for one night. Now, if Carson was in summer school,
he'd probably have some sort of projectwhere says, can you guys just write
about how Beryl affected you? Andhe would say the resort, we not
have our room ready, and HurricaneBeryl, please go away. I want
(48:00):
everybody to have power, and Iwant our room to be ready. I
only bring this up for this reason. It kind of delayed everything. And
by the time we got into theroom we would be staying in for one
night at a different resort. Weget in the door. Five minutes after
the door shuts, it happens.I'm getting text messages, Twitter all that,
(48:20):
and I'm like, you've got tobe kidding me. I mean,
I knew they're gonna try it,but it happened finally, they finally tried
this, and so then it's justlike, I'm honestly, I'm not gonna
say that, but it would havewell, because it's just it just sounds
terrible, but like it it would. I mean, it was still top
of mind for like the first atleast forty eight hours. I could not
(48:40):
tear away from it, even ifit was on my phone. And uh,
I was just that's crazy, crazy, crazy stuff. And then of
course this weekend, everybody saw thatcoming. Come on, he's a cadaver.
It's fine, everybody knew that wascoming. It's okay to say it
too. It's all right to pointto the obvious in a cadaver running the
country. Not really, he wasjust a puppet. And now we have
(49:01):
this here we are, by theway, come on, yeah, everybody
can agree. The best part ofthe last week, the best part of
the last week was carrying his clothesoff at the RNC. Come on,
now, what you're gonna do?If you guys thought we weren't talking sports,
guess again, you found a way. I can't not do it.
(49:22):
I can't not do it. It'sfascinating. How can you not pay attention
to this crap? So has hebeen involved before at any point that you're
can recall the only and I didn'tknow this. We can add him to
the governor Jesse. Not just onegovernor gonna keep going? Come on,
there was another governor. He alsowas involved in wrestling. How would you
(49:42):
say Arnold was involved in wrestling? He was on several episodes of Trump's been
on several episodes headline to WrestleMania. He shaved Vince's head, He closed lined
him too. Believe me, am, I missing others. I'm sure there's
somebody like in the ring out ofWrestleMania. Anybody like politician you're talking about,
or wrestlers that are now politicians.Uh well, no. Glenn Jacobs,
(50:06):
who played Kine, the Undertaker's brother, with a mask. I know
who Glenn Jacobs. Okay, ofcourse I know Jacobs is. I always
think of him. He's either themayor or a senator or something in Arkansas,
Memphis, Tennessee. Arkansas is aperfectly good guess. I like that.
Knox County, Tennessee, Knox County, Tennessee. I like Arkansas.
(50:27):
He's not the famous one from Arkansas. My wife's gonna run, y'all.
Just wait. I have not heardhis name much in the last twenty hours.
I've heard her name more twenty minutes. Uh, her name comes up
killer. Nah, you don't thinkso. Your your options now are Cackles.
That's currently the VP. She's thebetting favorite, okay, and then
(50:51):
Michelle and then Hillary. I can'teither these people who could run. Wow,
what does matter? Doesn't matter. That's why a lot of that is
happening. We obviously have a fewother things and places we could go with
the conversation, and we're gonna discusspolitics next. I actually am under the
belief that that is technically what's goingto take place in the next segment.
(51:12):
I hold out hopes that there's amassive and hilarious sports angle to it.
You'll have to see Adam Clinton.I'm Wexler our eighteen returned my Sports Talk
seven ninety likes your rockets play here. Were about to watch stripes or something
(51:37):
coming to theaters this summer. Heybuddy, wow, this is not the
version I thought it was. Wordsare the same. They're singing it.
Yeah, piled to the chief,So that would be a This is a
song to our current president Joe Biden. He that was him. That's an
exact quote in a pretty long statement. Yeah, have we seen this guy
(52:00):
in a week's recovering from COVID?Okay, by way of cleaning some things
up from the last segment very quicklybefore we move on with this, Chris
Gordy texts in and says with musicemojis, yes he was helping me out
here. Thirty days has September,April, June, and November, and
(52:21):
then there's more. But yeah, that's pretty much the gist of the song.
I had never heard that never eatsoggy waffles. You need to know
that one never eat soggy waffles.I mean I know where the directions are,
do you? Yeah? North isup? Do you South is down?
I have my doubts. And thenthe rest of it says we all
right. The reason we're playing thisand the reason I say it was going
(52:43):
to get political is not what youguys are thinking. Oh, it's only
sports. Really perfect, go ahead, but with a political tinge Oh wow,
did you see? Let me askyou this. First of all,
do you happen to follow our goodbuddy, Jeff Blum's wife Corey on Instagram?
Do she's her own little design firm, interior designer exactly? And a
(53:05):
day ago? Technically I never knowbecause it says a day ago, but
it could have been seven o'clock lastnight. You know. She posted something
with a caption voting orange and endorsingwith a hashtag. Well, first of
all, there was an orange heart, which you like when I read emojis
hashtag callous Blum twenty twenty four.Yeah. I've seen a lot of blank,
(53:29):
blank twenty four T shirts this summer. The last one had a totally
different reference. This one is callousBlum twenty twenty four, and you might
think, oh, well, youknow it's I responded, Yeah, I
did too. I like what thisorange platform stands for. I posted it.
I went way further than you youdid. I posted it with this
(53:51):
song, although not this terrible version. No offense, Dan, but I
don't like the singing. And Ijust said an orange wave was coming this
fall fall world, carry as youget it, I get we don't really
have fall here, and I loveit. We have like ten months of
summer and then like two weeks ofwinter and mixtures in between. But I
got a message when I posted this, and that's where it comes in.
That's where you come in. Allright. I'm here Austin Hill if you
(54:14):
want to give him a follow atAustin H. Hill ninety three. There's
two ahes in there. Wex asthe White House Press Secretary would be hilarious.
Yeah, no kidding. You areeven silk for that. You know
this whole time, I've tried tofigure out exactly that's why you'd be awesome
(54:35):
at it, Like there have beensome really good ones over the course of
something happens late or after eight o'clock? Who do we call? Who's going
to answer the phone? That wasvery antagon watching you and Peter Doucy of
Fox News go back and forth.Would be electrically After the question was offered
by Pete, I would say,I don't know doocey something like that.
You wouldn't be that way, thoughyou would be. You couldn't help it
(54:59):
because you're you. You'd have tokeep some semblance of professionalism. Real question
is what awesome television program would Ithen be hosting after I step down?
Would I have the Jen Psaki show? Would I have the Kaylee mcinernie Show.
I like how you called her JenPasaki? What should I call her?
Jensaki? Her name? No,Jen Pasaki, Jen circle back Pasaki,
(55:21):
that's her real name. No,you only get them if you're on
one side. You only get Taylormade shows on cable news. That's not
true. What about I know HayleyMcAneny has gone to Fox, and Sanders
doesn't have a show. And that'sjust any political career. Yeah, this
just in There are networks dedicated toone side or the other, many more
dedicated to one side, and thenthere's the one that's dedicated to that side,
(55:44):
and then everything else that's dedicated tothat also side is not on cable
news. All I get is fairand balanced stuff from whoever and everyone?
Is it a no spin zone likeWilliam and Eiley. I don't know enough
about it to even comment on it. Seriously, think about this. First
of all, Todd Kallis and JeffBlum as a ticket if you voting,
maybe didn't have to be politics. But let's just say it was like,
Todd Kallis is presidential enough to pullthis off. And let me tell you
(56:07):
Blummer would be perfect in a VProle. You can't tell me that he's
not smart enough to do it.They already have dumber people that have done
it, like the one there. Now, there's no way that I wouldn't
vote for that ticket. Yeah, you just got what I said. It
took a second. Well, Iwas locked in on who you probably were
going to say, because it's sowell cackles. No, she's not necessarily
(56:29):
as famous or famous period for beingnot the most intelligent vice president because somebody
else damn clayle a lot, yes, a long time. You know how
to spell potato because he doesn't.But yeah, I was kind of lucked
in on that who I thought youwere going. But it's like he would.
Blum would be the perfect VP becausehe doesn't want to be there anyways,
(56:50):
like most vps, he's just alongfor the ride. Hmmm. It
can be, but it can leadto future here for the free dinners in
the White House. Obviously, itappears there's a chance that's the current VP
will be on the ticket and runfor president. Many other vps have clearly
done the same and won a presidentialelection and become presidents. It's sometimes the
do you think Jeff is on hisway to becoming the president by being Todd?
(57:15):
Right now? Well, if Toddhad a successful run, because that's
usually the key, Like do youwant to see them up on stage at
their rally, arm in arm, holding each other's arms in the air.
Yeah, but what are they chanting? T K t K t K?
Is that what the crowd is changing? How usk's mic drop moment like we
(57:35):
see so often ninety three minutes laterfrom Donald and others. What would be
his signature phrase or his tagline,We're asking for your help? Apparently?
Yeah, we got them. Yeah, I mean that's what it would be.
I don't know, Uh, independentsare on the fence, voters,
We got them. He pulled themin with his message, you know,
right after he he was gonna they'reboth gonna give speeches, let's say,
(58:00):
and he goes first, and hewould say, appreciate everyone here, our
Vice President, Jeff Blum comes yourway next, another four years comes your
way next. They would, likeI said, I would fully support this
ticket. You absolutely have to bethe White House press secretary. I would
(58:21):
accept that assignment appointment if they sochoose. Are there other people in the
media that would be good cabinet membersthough, because that's what got me a
Secretary of commerce, well whatever, secretary of whatever. They've got several secretaries
and none of them the local mediacould handle secretary of work. You know,
I understand, Like, why dothey use that in the government.
(58:42):
Use the word secretary When you thinkof an actual secretary and what it does,
it's very different than say, forexample, a cabinet member and a
presidential administration. Secretary of State's avery important job. And you got somebody
here in the Houston media that's gonnarun our homeland security. No, we're
gonna away with that, and severalother departments, Veterans Affairs, Agriculture secretary.
(59:05):
Yeah, there's fifteen executive departments. This is just in Agriculture secretary is
a big deal. Farmers a bigdeal. I know you're talking about your
grocery prices. How about getting thegroceries there to begin with. It's kind
of a big deal. I knowsome of you think it's just flyover country
or whatever. It's important. Thiswas very sportsy. Unless you want to
(59:28):
be eating crickets. Vote for Toddand Jeff Off Now he's on board.
Wow, I call him g Off? Are that guy their independence? Clearly?
I don't know what would they be. Well, I'm assuming they're neither
of the current typical parties. Oneto make for some fireworks, but the
(59:52):
country needs to come together that unitywhen the members of the ticket are from
opposing viewpoints and part parties. Sometimes, wait, I thought you were this.
No, I wanted to further mycareer, So now i'm that some
would say that. For example,I mean, since we're on the subject
these days, Kennedy and Johnson,we're on polar opposite sides of their parties.
(01:00:16):
To help you along with this extremelyfun and needed Monday exercise, you're
pease take these three individuals and putthem in the cabinet. We've got head
coach Tamiko Ryans, manager Joe Espadaand head coach Emy Udoka. They are
part of the callous blum cabinet. What departments are they running? Well?
(01:00:36):
The Secretary of Defense has to beDemiko ecept it could be e May right.
I mean I'm thinking he's he's moreof a homeland security guy. Oh
yeah, you wouldn't bleep with him. But Joe, he's more of diplomatic.
So you want him to glad hand. You want him to be out
and about the pressing the flesh.Secretary of Commerce, shaking babies and kissing
(01:00:58):
hands, Housing and urban Development,No, keep going, I'll tell your
Treasury transportation labor. I feel likeTreasury would be good. You can trust
him with your money and he wouldknow taxationist theft. Believe me, he's
dealing with more things. We sawit twice this weekend, once against Josh
Hader, once against Brian Wu.They tried to circumvent the pitchcock plock rules
(01:01:22):
by harder to say it is formany people, the pitch clock rules.
Trying to circumvent the Oh I'm runningout of time. I want a new
baseball. No you can't, can'tdo that was Josh Hater's reaction. The
best event maybe the baseball so Ican strike this guy out in the game.
He realized all this is doing ishelping the Mariners. I have to
(01:01:42):
recompose myself, and I'm glad thathe did, and he's in that scenario.
Lest we forget with some of thehome runs he's allowed, if he's
been in a safe situation now twentyconsecutive times, he has come through all
twenty times. That's the more oftenthat he's in it, the better off
this team is. That clearly meansthey're in front, and he's sealed the
deal on a victory. All thesethings which were happening so infrequently at the
(01:02:05):
beginning of his career. Hit twowinning outings and coming in three runs down.
It's just amazing where his season wasversus where his season is despite the
fact that some of those home runsdid occur. I hope you enjoyed that.
Everybody will come back with I don'tknow a signature segment next, but

that's not good, and the uglydon't make me good with the A team
we're selling you the good the bad. I feel like I would vote for
a ticket with Sly if he wereon it. No concern about his next
(01:03:55):
four to eight years more than theother guys that were in this race originally
in their eighties. Not asking youto relate it to anybody those guys.
He's in his mid seventies now,sly seventy six, I want to say,
but he's also been hitting the headby Dolph Lungern and Carl Weathers a
lot. Only in the script yousay so the other guy's been hit for
(01:04:18):
real, blown up by a bunchof claymares and Vietnam and a bunch of
movies too. Uh did his momshoot him? No, because he said
stop, all right, it's timeto get to our signature. Second,
Kurt Russell, mister t cash tango? Well, what else there? This
(01:04:42):
could go? Sharon Stone if youwanted a female persuasion, it needs not
though it needs that. What wasthe name of that movie they were in
that was terrible with Sharon Stone?Yeah, and Sylvester Salone. Yeah,
he was the main character. Shocking, she got naked again, shocking?
What else she does that a lotin movie? It's worked. Yeah,
it has a career, all right, the good, the bad, and
(01:05:03):
the ugly. That's right. Iremember that. Nineteen ninety six, nineteen
ninety four, was it really?I hate it when I'm wrong on those,
you know, that's my thing. All right, what while you are
away was good? I mean, there's so much to choose from, but
I could not get enough of thespace. Remember you talked about there not
(01:05:25):
being a spin zone. There wasabsolute really good. Yeah you said it
was a no spin zone. Iknow, fair and balanced, same difference.
I could not get enough of thespin that the usuals were putting on
TEENUSA squeaking bye? Was it SouthSudan? So this is the good?
Yeah? Okay, please explain itbecause I couldn't get enough of this.
(01:05:48):
Okay, I'll look at Lebron withthat, with that game winner. Do
you know what this came to isthat it harkened back to the conversation we
had just before I went on vacationwhere you painstakingly roster spot by roster spot
compared the ninety two dream Team withthis latest incarnation of a not dream team,
(01:06:11):
right, and the fact that itwas you would not take any of
those guys on this current team overninety two's team. Yeah, there's some
liberties taken with the literal timing.I'm glad you said that because there were
some liberties taken with people trying tosay, oh, let's be honest,
that team would this team now nothinglike what South Sudan would have put out
(01:06:33):
there in nineteen ninety two. Correct, Just like this team now for America,
the United States is nothing like thatteam. Jordan alone would have put
the fear of God in his superstarteammates so that they never ever would have
even been in a position where theyneeded a game winning layup from the supposed
(01:06:56):
go to liberal James. Flag bear, Yeah, flag Bear, That's who
represents all the country the most. Now now, I actually, you know,
if you were not aware that it'sactually the perfect representation. It'll be
carrying the flag among the male athletesfor the United States of America at the
opening ceremonies. Uh Lebron James. My first, initially I thought it just
(01:07:16):
feels like it should be somebody elsewhose whole life was really spent around trying
to become the best in their amateursport and become an Olympian and all that,
because I, I, it's justdifferent. But then I also he's
been too as I mean not Thereactually are people who've been to more,
but not that many. And Iwish he'd want all golds, which they
(01:07:36):
haven't, which is crazy, butas an Olympian, it actually isn't that
far off. And I can understandit for his age and for whatever else.
I understood why, but it alwaysfelt like it. It just definitely
felt like it should have basketball somebodyelse. Basketball really is different in the
way it's changed because they went withwho they have now. I mean,
(01:07:57):
can you imagine it's the last thirtyplus years the United States was continuing to
send amateur basketball players to the Olympics. Well they did, or I don't
know what you'd call him now withnil, but you get my right point.
But they did. They'd send gleaguers, which doesn't exist anymore.
They did, though, and theygot smoked. I'm saying, what if
they had just continued to do itall these like who would be at the
(01:08:20):
Olympics for America right now besides CooperFlag that's true, I mean, would
Read Shepherd qualify because he hasn't beenin the NBA yet or now, he's
like the level of player this group, you know, even for ten minutes
struggled with Canada, or maybe youthink more than that, struggled to a
certain extent with Australia clearly struggled toa massive extent with South Sudan. What
(01:08:42):
would it be like if none ofthese players were even eligible because they were
in the NBA. Could you imaginebeing on a quote unquote dream team and
not winning gold? Couldn't be MJ. No, it's just another is very,
very different, And again that's notreally the point that anyone was trying
to make. I just think thestraight up talent of the players then,
even at their respective stages of theircareer, certainly better than the level of
(01:09:03):
the talent of this current I betMJ comes out of retirement just to play
on the USA team, just toshow what he could do at age nearly
sixty. The bad Mariners fans cheeringwhen Bregman got hit, It's very on.
Basically, insert Astros roads series fanscheered when insert Astro's player got hit.
(01:09:29):
Did they cheer when Jordan got whenhe hit himself? Yeah, that's
technically he founded off his up.Where where was the last one of the
last stops on the Astros last roadtrip? Minnesota? What happened in Minnesota?
Same thing? People were stupid? How two they hit? Let's cheer
well, I mean, we don'thave anything else to cheer about. I
guess even though their team won twicein this case, the Mariners only one
(01:09:51):
once. Yeah, that's what fanshave been meaning regular season, this thing,
and I again they we had afun with it when it all unfolded
with the All Star vote. Nowyou're talking about Bregman. Previously it was
Altuve. Altuve hit in Rhoades Stadium, Fans cheer Altuve announced as the next
(01:10:11):
hitter, Fans boo also, samefans vote him as the starter at second
base. They have to be thesame, right, I mean, I
maybe it's not. Maybe they're absolutelyvoting totally different. No one who voted
for the All Stars attended any roadgames for the Astros and booed or cheered
an Astro, none of them.It has to be all different people.
(01:10:33):
Did Altuve really not go to theAll Star Game because he didn't want to
get booed? I just can't believeunless you ask him and get him to
give you an honest answer. Idon't think we'll necessarily know for certain,
but yeah, it definitely has thatvibe, wouldn't you say? Just He's
just performed in so many more clutchsituations with booing happening that it just surprises
(01:10:53):
me. I guess, yeah,it's just you're not He's out there to
be celebrated. This is a celebrationof who you are and why you're here
and why you want We wanted youhere, and the fans there are going
to It does to me have alittle bit to do with where if this
pick twenty five places and you can'tpick Arlington, and you can't pick Dodger
Stadium, aren't all those other twentyfive places? Fine? Hey, arroidis
(01:11:15):
nice showing in the home run derby. That's all I got. He didn't
win, did he? He didn'tadvance him and his seventy liter head?
Am I missing something for the uglyhere? It seemed like a pretty nice
athletic fund the game that I thoughtwas ugly, since you took it as
the good. Oh do that again, I don't care. I mean,
(01:11:39):
you got like exactly a minute. What were they doing just almost losing?
I know it's an exhibition. Iknow it doesn't matter. I know it's
a tune of I know it's toget you ready. Steve Kurr is an
awesome coach, though great to me, he would catch at least as much
blame as anybody else around this, say, Daily didn't even call a time
out. It is just an exhibitiongame, so I'm certainly not gonna fly
(01:11:59):
off the handles. I'm sticking itin the ugly category is about as far
as I think it needs to gobecause of the nature of what it actually
is. But I will change mytune when the competition actually begins. If
they're on the wrong side of thescoreboard at the end of any of those
games, the competition hasn't begun yet, that's the problem. I think.
I think they'll be fine. Doyou think, yes, I think they're
going to win the gold medal. If you're asking me to put my name
(01:12:21):
on it, I'm taking the UnitedStates men's national team to win gold in
Paris. Okay? Good? Isthat fair? Yes? Yes? Absolutely?
All right? Free concert tickets aregoing to be straight ahead. When
we come back here on the ATeam Sports Talk at seven ninety, we'll
also jump back in to some Texansconversation. One of the best things,
(01:12:41):
however, that's happened right here inour fair city, the arrival of QC
Kinetics. They're amazing, regenerative medicinetreatments helping so many people with lasting joint
pain relief, and no surgery isinvolved, no drugs are involved, and
no downtime for either of those things. You're talking about four locations to serve
you in Cypress, the Woodlands, the Heights, and Sugarland q C Kinetics.
(01:13:03):
It's a game changer when it comesto getting rid of joint pain and
giving you lasting joint pain relief.Seven one three nine one three fifty two
eighty five is the number to call. Just get them to help you treat
the pain, enhance your joints, restore your mobility, long term relief.
You need it. You want tomake that call today seven one three nine
one three fifty two eighty five. You'll get yourself set up with a free
(01:13:26):
consultation and any one of the fourHouston area locations Sugarland, the Woodlands,
the Heights, and the Cypress locationfor q C Kinetics. The Future of
Medicine seven one three nine one threefifty two eighty five. Adam Clinton and
Adam Wexler. The A Team nowcontinues. It is the eighteam here on
(01:13:56):
Sports Talk seven ninety taking up untilsix o'clock. Oakland Athletics for the final
time on tap I guess they're notgoing to change the name, are they
when they moved to Vegas in threeyears? Right? Four years? Yeah?
Four years probably. By the way, I don't think we've talked about
(01:14:17):
this, it's presumably the smallest stadiumin Major League Baseball. Maybe why somebody
else is building a small ridiculous raisedproposal that passed, potentially is building a
stadium in Peterson dollars which the publicwill be responsible for about six hundred million
(01:14:38):
at a thirty thousand fan capacity, the public who still doesn't even go to
their games, even though they're prettygood. Yeah, and they're putting it,
Yes, they're putting it right therein Saint Petersburg where it's the same
place but still Saint Pete. Yeah, but it's not in Tampa, Which
isn't that one of the biggest complaintsabout everybody inside and outside of Tampa.
(01:14:59):
They're so seems misguided, Yes,more or less misguided than moving the A's
to Vegas and then playing home gameselsewhere, and going on record of saying
it moving, well, they can'tmove to a place that's not built.
Yeah, but they're saying once it'sbuilt. You know what we should do
not play all of our home gamesin our new stadium. They've said this,
(01:15:20):
Yeah, we'll see about that. What do you mean we'll see if
that actually comes to Yeah, Butwhy would you say it unless you're gonna
think about doing it. I mean, you're there's only thirty of them.
They've got to have one of thethree worst owners in Major League Baseball.
So we're not ready to lock inon anything that comes out of Fisher's mouth
or their mouth. But again,I'm going back to the original question you're
(01:15:43):
be I know, we got concerttickets the give away. You're building this
brand new stadium, and you're it'sone of the smallest, clearly not the
smallest, but the next smallest inMajor League Baseball. Once it's constructed,
Why is it taking long to buildit? Well, for one thing,
I can definitely say this with extremeconfidence, the shell of the Tropicana is
(01:16:05):
still erected, so the site ofthe stadium is not yet clear or even
close. And then you know buildingdelays, issues with supplies. You know,
four years to us, it didn'ttake a long time. They throw
up gas stations in like thirty hours. It didn't sound gas stations didn't sound
like the plan for the Saint PetePalace was much different from a timing standpoint.
(01:16:28):
But I don't recall minute made takingthat long. It was being built
in ninety nine. They had openingday in two thousand. Are we gonna
be ready for opening gag? Ohyeah, Just throw in the last couple
of bushes and play a game. We'll be fine. We'll call it in
Rome. What could go wrong?It's just I don't know. I don't
get it. Four years they're gonnabe playing Astros can play in road games.
(01:16:48):
We'll be sacrament. I'll be ableto talk unintelligently about yet another presidential
election four years from now. We'vealready ruffled feathers today. We can't do
that anymore. Someone's very up saidabout us having fun with the election.
It's okay, all right, I'mgonna lose zero sleepover what's less than zero?
That's the amount of sleep i'll loseover that person? Alrighty? Then,
(01:17:09):
well you want to give away someconcert tickets? Go right ahead?
All right? Uh, I thinkwe're still doing this. I don't know.
I haven't been I haven't been atit for a while. A pair
of tickets to see Third Eye Blindlive on August third at the Woodlands Pavilion.
Tickets are on sale now at livenationdot com. That is going to
(01:17:30):
be a good show, by theway, underrated band. Here's the question.
Earlier on the show, like thishour, we were talking about a
potential ticket of Todd Kallis and JeffBlum running for office, you know,
an orange wave if you will, and WEX suggested someone to be the secretary
of defense. Actually, we bothkind of came to this conclusion pretty automatically.
(01:17:53):
It was the first name we mentioned. It's one of the head coaches
in town. There's your hint seventhree two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Goodluck first calling to answer that question from
something you heard earlier on the show, and those tickets can be will be
yours. Got a few minutes herebefore we hit the top of the hour.
(01:18:15):
We're gonna dive even more into itwhen we do. With what I
saw out there at practice today, essentially your WEX notes for day four at
Texas Training Camp practice practice for dayfive tomorrow, they will put the pads
on and you know Demiko talking aboutthat a little bit. It's fun for
them because they haven't done it.Probably not so fun for them several days
after they have. But yes,it's a nice change of pace. And
(01:18:36):
we all know football has played withpads on this, so you should get
a little bit better idea of it. We mentioned Joe Mixon not practicing today,
didn't really mention a couple of theother things from a roster standpoint that
have been a little just not normal. Christian Harris is yet to practice,
but he actually was at practice today, Aaron Wilson reporting it as a soft
tissue injury, not expected to bea lengthy one. But I had not
(01:19:00):
been out on the practice field thatI had noticed any of the first three
days, and he wasn't suited upor anything today. He just happened to
be in attendance, hanging around tothe group that he works with, the
linebackers, but is still not practicing. Their pupp list includes only one player
now that's Andrew Beck. Del SeanPhillips D'Angelo Ross were both taken off the
pup list, which you can doin training camp. That's why when people
(01:19:23):
will enter camp and they're put onthe pup list. Some people who are
Oh my god, what does thismean that it doesn't mean anything. It's
more procedural and now they are eligibleto practice, and both did so to
a certain degree today. I don'tthink Phillips took every possible rep that he
and his group might have, buthe is now over there. Laramie Tunsel
technically he is not practiced at allthrough the first four days of camp.
But if you don't think he's workinghard, I can definitely tell you from
(01:19:46):
being out there that is inaccurate.I almost feel bad for Dylan Horton.
The two of them are among theplayers working out on the side field.
Those two happen to be doing alot of similar things together. And the
reason I say I almost feel badfor him some of the things they're doing
that our strength related. First Laramiedoes it and then Dylan does it.
(01:20:08):
And I'm not saying Dylan isn't strongor big or an NFL player. I'm
not sure how many players on theteam have the same kind of strength required
to handle this particular rehab drill theway Laramie is, but he does,
and it's pretty impressive with him outthere. Dalton Schultz did not practice today,
and again there was no definitive wordon the reason why he had not
(01:20:30):
missed a practice yet. Yesterday wasan off day, so today makes that
two in a row. Maybe thatis all there was to it, and
maybe he'll be out there tomorrow infront of the fans and taking the reps.
He is one of just a handfulof tight ends they have. There
are only five on the roster, and so today there are four. It
allowed Cade Stover to get a littlebit more work mixing in with the ones.
(01:20:50):
When we talk about the ones versusthe ones, the offensive line is
not interchangeable normally during those drills, just like they're not interchangeable during game unless
Dwayne Brown is a rookie. Thosefive guys take all the reps with CJ,
and same thing for CG. Hetakes all the reps with the ones.
But Dalton Schultz and Kate Stover andBrevin Jordan and evening Equatoriano, they
(01:21:13):
will mix in just the same waythat you know, Tank del Nico Collins
and Stefan Diggs are not the onlywide outs taking the field with the ones.
Each of the other guys behind them, and there's a ton of competition
there. They'll move into those spotsas well all throughout the process, and
each of the last two days alot more eleven on eleven work, which
I think is just a matter of, you know, the timing of where
(01:21:34):
we are on the calendar. Theyhave all these additional practice days because of
their game being on the first, and so they have an opportunity to get
a little bit more work done withoutgoing I think overboard. Their first four
practices have been I would categorize asfairly light because they have the ability to
do that. They have the additionaltime and they will get into different level
of intensity, I'm sure as itramps up a little bit closer to August,
(01:21:57):
first that first game and then theother three that they still have to
play through. There is only onejoint practice for them and that comes before
their their last practice before their lastpreseason game when the Rams are in town.
And the Rams have now given twoplayers to the Texans from their roster
under Sean McVay on offense, CamAkers officially signed and on the practice field
today for the Texans. With JoeMixon out, he's one of their backs
(01:22:20):
that is getting work. He waslast in line today. We'll see if
that changes. And Ben Scronic actuallymade a couple of nice plays during some
of the eleven on eleven work.I think he saved his quarterback in interception
on the left sideline by going upand over the defensive back. Our position
on the field left me a littletoo far away to see everything that was
taking place, but I know hemade a nice play there. He is
(01:22:41):
a little bit bigger target, soit is something that I think he can
definitely bring to this team. We'llget hot and heavy on the Texans to
start the five o'clock hour. Next, I'm gonna tell you about my friends

(01:24:18):
football in America is a special game. Football at five here on Sports Talk
seven to ninety have been able totalk about Texans camp since last Thursday.
They'll practice again through Thursday. Thursdayis their next day off. Tomorrow,
the pads go on and the fansare expected to be out there and droves.
Hopefully the rain won't also join them. The fans probably won't mind most
(01:24:43):
of them because of the way they'veset up their fan experience out there,
while there's a lot of stuff inthe parking lot for them to enjoy over
the course of practice, especially forthe younger fans that want to have a
good experience but probably aren't in itto sit in a seat or a bleacher
seat and watch to hours of practicefootball all the fan area in the stands.
(01:25:04):
By the way, it's all covered. Even if it does rain,
you're in a pretty good spot.We have a tent that will probably be
utilizing if it's raining and we're practicing. The Texans, of course play football,
so I don't think a little rainis going to concern them a whole
lot with what they have to do. They could potentially play in a game
where weather it is a factor, but they don't usually cancel practice unless or
(01:25:25):
move practice inside unless it is dangerousor it does impact how they want to
practice. So again, hopefully everythingis gonna run as expected tomorrow and practice
again on Wednesday, and then todayoff Thursday. That would that brings to
mind an email I got and Imeant to bring this up earlier, actually
off air, but since you broughtit up on there, I'll do it.
I think this was to me I'mgiving you a hard time, Colby.
(01:25:48):
Colby rode in he said he Clinton. I think he meant high Clinton.
Yeah, I enjoy your show alot, So I'm just messing with
you. Colby sending this email toask if you knew or no, if
the Texans will I would hold trainingcamp in the rain, or if they
will hold it inside, because Iplan on going on Wednesday. And that's
the thing. Wednesday is so faraway in terms of weather in Houston.
(01:26:09):
I'd like to tell you something moredefinitive, but I just can't. Yeah,
and in the light that this isnot it is a ticketed event that
is not a cost for the ticket, I don't really think there's much there
they're gonna be able to tell youin advance. I think it will be
able to share that information with youas soon as they have information for us
to share, if that's the directionthey'd like to go, or if that's
(01:26:30):
how they're going to potentially change things. But I don't really think there's much
that they'll need to do that. The fans will get what they can.
And yes, both Tuesday and Wednesday'spractices are the two first to open for
the fans. We'll just see whatthe weather brings and how they go about
it, and it is why thepractice bubble is there for the football side
of it. But whatever needs tobe done, I'm sure will be done.
(01:26:51):
And as soon as the Texans haveanswers, they'll push it out to
all of us and everybody else andwe'll tell you the same. But I
plan on being out there, soI'll give you a first handgunt. I've
decided just how early I'll be outthere tomorrow. I'm not sure where they'll
hit their bad weather. They've playedin rain in Jacksonville before. Their trip
to Jacksonville is in December. Theygo to New York in late October,
(01:27:15):
late October, come on Halloween, very very very very end one day.
Thanks Their game in Nashville is nextyear, in twenty twenty five, on
January fifth. I'm gonna enjoy ruiningNew Year's for Tennesseeans. The last handful
of projections I've seen for the AFCSouth, that is the one thing that
(01:27:36):
is constant, because I did seeIndianapolis, Jacksonville, Houston finishing one,
two, three in that order. Can we talk about that constant Tennessee is
going is predicted to finish behind theother three and they're not going to surprise
anybody that's happening. But here's thedeal on that. One of the reasons
that that idiot wrote that article andit's just one guy USA today, right,
(01:27:59):
Hm. He said that CJ.Stroud would have a sophomore slump as
part of his reasoning. Correct hesaid it's a possibility, so I think
in his second year. So sohe thinks Anthony Richardson is going to lead
the Colts to how many wins again? Twelve eleven? I don't even think
it was eleven. I think itwas just ten. Oh. I thought
(01:28:21):
they had he had them with elevenwins, but uh, he didn't even
play his rookie year, So howcan he have a sophomore slumph? I
see, Okay, makes perfect sense. Now, Well, I'm glad you
figure that out for me. Asmuch as I'm not picking Indianapolis or Jacksonville
to win the division, I don'tthink it's crazy to pick them. I
really don't. I actually think inIndianapolis, because of what they did last
(01:28:42):
year, when people perceived them tohave less talent than what they obviously showed,
they should be bullish on them.I don't think the moves they've made
in the offseason send him in thewrong direction. Plus there he might not
pass the ball as well as Minshew. I actually think he will. But
I'm again I'm okay with people saying, but their offense is just simply going
to be better with him running theshow. They look at what Baltimore's done
(01:29:04):
since Lamar Jackson's been in their backfieldat quarterback. Look at what Buffalo's done
since he's been in their backfield astheir quarterback. It is hard to defend.
Even if they're not the best passersin the NFL on anything, both
Jackson and Allen have shown they're wayabove average and much closer to the top
than people ever give them credit for. And their offenses are hard to stop
(01:29:25):
because they run the ball so well. And I don't mean only them.
We're talking about Baltimore with a wholeslew of running backs, all of whom
were talented, and now they haveDereck Henry. We're talking about Josh Allen
with a group of running backs theyconsistently change, but Singletary to Moss to
now James Cook. These guys canplay. And now we're talking about Anthony
Richardson in a backfield with Jonathan Taylor. Jonathan Taylor could produce the most effective,
(01:29:48):
productive running back season in the AFCthis year rather easily, as he's
kind of done it before. Whenhealthy health is a huge concern when both
of them are coming off of injuryriddled season. To me, you're talking
about, you know, Indianapolis versusHouston winning the division. Then you're talking
(01:30:09):
about the best or one of thebest trios or let's just say wide receiver
rooms. Let's just say that versusone of the best, unpredictable running teams.
When you put both Jonathan Taylor andAnthony Richardson in that backfield, which
you would, he becomes a runningback any given time he decides to be.
Yeah. The only thing I guessi'd maybe even pause on my own
(01:30:31):
thoughts about it is maybe they're supersuper scared of what that might be because
of how Cam Newton's body was beatenup over what turned out to be a
short run as an elite player becausehe took so much punishment great player,
MVP, super Bowl quarterback, butit definitely took its toll, and I
(01:30:51):
think it's always a concern somehow, even though Lamar Jackson has had some seasons
where he wasn't finishing as healthy ashe needs to be. Clearly two years
ago he wasn't on the field dueto injury. I don't think he's gotten
beaten up, but he's obviously susceptibleto more hits because he runs the football,
because he has the ball in hishands for the tackle way more often
than most every other quarterback does.Josh Allen has managed to be extremely healthy
(01:31:15):
while taking at least as much punishmentas either of those guys. It's just
a matter of who they are andwhat their body can take. So you're
not definitely going to get hurt,You're just definitely going to get hit more.
Shane Stikeen's willing to do that ifthey're not concerned about super long term.
I mean, they're going to havehim as their quarterback at a minimum,
barring catastrophic injury, for six moreyears, even if you extend him
(01:31:38):
when most of these other quarterbacks aregetting extended. If you signed into a
five year extension after his third year, well it's still only eight years.
You're not trying to make his careerlast fifteen years sometimes, so I think
they can go about it and notbe too concerned with it, even though
he was hurt on two different occasionslast year and have fairly major souldier surgery.
But I think it was also smartto go ahead and do that when
(01:32:00):
they did. One of the peoplethat he'll be presumably throwing the football against
in the opener next year is KamariLassiter. And I think the Texans it's
likely to go this way. They'regonna look pretty good for making that selection
when they did. And who itwas. We were talking about it at
Dan and I and Stan We're onour draft coverage that night, and it
was basically a who's who of whereare these dbs going? We spent two
(01:32:24):
weeks running down player after player atthe cornerback position who made sense for the
Texans at this spot. Which playersdid we think would maybe be in that
twenty five to forty group, Andthen most of the super high expected picks
like Terry and Arnold and even NateWiggins, they just kept staying on the
board. They were both late firstround picks, and all of a sudden
(01:32:45):
that group of dbs, he thought, well, maybe it's a little bit
different group they're looking at, andKool Aid McKinstry went right before Lassiter and
the Texans took last year at fortytwo. And I think everyone assumed if
you're starting three dbs, he's probablyone of them. But maybe the assumption
then was he's your slot guy.I think he's going to be the starter
opposite Derek Stingley Junior. Nothing we'veseen a practice suggest otherwise. Demiko ryans
(01:33:06):
every day. He's quiet, he'she's locked in, focused and tense,
and and I don't you don't noticehim much because he's always doing his job.
He's always where he should be,he's always in position. It's always
doing what we asked him to do. And as a rookie, that says
a lot for a young guy tocome in and, you know, not
be noticed a lot for doing somethingnegative. But everything has been positive with
(01:33:30):
Kamari. He's exactly the guy wesaw from the Georgia film. Like dial
then he's a lot of people callhim a dog. He's a dog.
He's locked in and it'll show upeven more. I think once we get
the pass. Just remember the Georgiatape how physical he was when they came
to tackling so encourage or where heis starting out such a young career where
he is right now in training camp, what he did at OTA's, I
(01:33:54):
think he's just he'll continue to ascendand get better. He is not the
first person to call come all right, last or a dog is absolutely you
have to right if they come fromGeorgia. Well, I mean that does
sound sound kind of obvious, maybeDad jokie if you will. But tek
Dell said the very same thing overthe weekend about last year. And he's
obviously been matched up with him alittle bit during the first handful of practice
(01:34:15):
and that's going to be a lotmore in the future. Alsha here another
player we had a chance to talkto, and the guy on the opposite
side, Derek Stingley Junior, anotherplayer we had comment from on last year.
I hope it plays out as positivelyas it has begun, but it
is an area of need. Ithink they chose the right guy. Yeah,
all right, let's talk about thefact that you need to choose a
(01:34:39):
higher level of testosterone than the onethat's currently in your system. If things
aren't going right, and I'm talkingabout you know, you've been sluggish.
You have not been able to answerthe bell in the bedroom, or any
number of significant symptoms that could betaking over your life. Yeah, that's
not hyperbole when I say that Men'sTeam Clinic is here to get your testosterone
(01:35:01):

location. Five of them as amatter of fact, in the Houston area,

cash and insurance options making it easyto get in, get out,

you, and what you can doabout it at what location that's Men's T
Clinic dot com. Visit Men's TClinic dot com. We now return to
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler on SportsTalk seven ninety. I wanted to continue
(01:35:46):
the conversation about Texan's rookie cornerback TomorrowLasser here on the at WEXDAC here with
you practice number four day number fivein the books earlier today, actually a
couple of nice plays made by someof his secondary brethren passed late in eleven.
On eleven is one of the lastplays of the day before they called
it a day. Ye had DavisMills rolling out to his right throwing on
(01:36:11):
the run, probably put about fortyfive fifty yards of air underneath. They
throw deep down the field with JeffAkuda and Mike Ford in coverage, ball
tipped and Okudah able to make asliding diving interception on the ball. Kaylin
Bullock made a really nice play earlyin practice undercutting a route from Nico Collins.
Throw was not fired off until late. It was Davis Mills at quarterbacks,
(01:36:34):
so it made it even easier forBullock to make the right read to
make a good break on the football. Unfortunately, he didn't hang on to
it. It was a really niceplay. He did everything right and from
a you know, the teaching standpoint, the understanding and the angles and just
being a player that they hope hecould become. As he's also moved up
a little bit in terms of whatreps he's taking. He just didn't hang
(01:36:55):
on to the throw. There defenseThey definitely won today. I don't think
there was much doubt about that.Really something to watch for when and if
they're on the field. And Icouldn't tell you one thing about how the
Texans are going to utilize their playersover these four preseason games and one joint
practice. I know they want asmany of them healthy as possible, so
you might not see a whole lotof them. But watching Daniel Hunter,
(01:37:17):
even in practice situations, even beforethey've put the pads on, he and
Will Anderson Junior have not exclusively stayedon their respective sides per se. He
got a lot of his work todayon the right side as an opposite right
to tackle Titus Howard Willy Anderson gota lot of his work in today opposite
(01:37:38):
left tackle Blake Fisher Hunter. Imean, I kind of lost track of
how many plays I wrote down thatsaid likely a sack because you're obviously not
hitting the quarterback. But when thepocket has collapsed on CJ. Stroud and
the internal clock has already gone off, but the whistle hasn't blown, and
he stepped up in the pocket,he's dumped it off to somebody, or
he's thrown it in completion, Essentially, this is a sack, and I'm
(01:38:00):
sure there was at least three ofthose today. He also, I think
he batted a ball down with thebottom portion of the two fives on his
jersey he was a basically a quickhitting screen Davis Mills took the snap,
turned to his left and fired theball right into him, just basically hit
him right in the belly. Sothere are a lot of good things too,
I think see on the horizon forwhat that duo can do together.
(01:38:24):
You know, I asked Alisha hereabout that, and he talked more about
how hard they work versus necessarily whathe's seen from them on the field.
And I imagine when I ask himthat again closer to the season, or
even after their first four and ahalf sack combined game, either against Indianapolis
or maybe Caleb Williams in Week two, maybe against Sam Darnold in Week three,
when those idiots keep playing Sam Darnoldrather than JJ McCarthy. But whatever,
(01:38:46):
whatever you want to do with younight one three, he's not ousted.
I mean, if he's gonna getall the reps in camp, then
you're making sure that McCarthy will fail, right. I'm not sure why you
would want to do that, butit kind of seems like you are.
We'll get to that when we getto that on Lassiter, who continues to
get every possible opportunity to show thathe belongs on the field with the ones.
(01:39:06):
And when you are a starting cornerpretty much in any defense you're running,
you're on the field literally without injury. You might say a hundred snap
I mean one hundred percent of thesnaps, and that is a big trust
factor they're gonna need for a playerlike that if that's really where they're headed.
You heard Damiko Ryan's a moment agotalk about him well, one of
the players going up against him andDerek Stingley Junior throughout camp. Very interesting
(01:39:30):
to hear from Stefan Diggs. Heinitially was given a comment about Derek Stingley
Junior, which we also need youto hear, but specifically on what he's
seen from the rookie Kamari Lassiter. As they say, bringing in a guy
that's ready, he could be ready, you know what I'm saying. He
might even be ready right now. He's a guy that's you know, takes
it day by day technique, soundseeking knowledge, I mean, want to
(01:39:51):
compete at a high level. Andhe ain't running from it, you know
what I'm saying. I'm talking aboutjump to him a little bit, you
know, just to kind of gethim going. And he's right there,
stand at tenthos down. So forsomething that you'd like to see at young
players is that confidence. Want totalk more about Digs in a minute,
but we'll stick to lastner here. You heard him say I'm talking my junk
to him a little bit. Diggs. We've had a chance to talk to
(01:40:14):
him in this regard at the podiumnow a couple of times, once during
the offseason work and now once hereduring training camp, and we ask him.
You hear him talk about his talkon the field because we ask him
about it, because it's so obviousand apparent. I mean, they've had
I've seen players before. I've beenhere twenty plus years covering players here.
But it's noticeable when a player istaking the time during practice to talk to
(01:40:38):
Derek Stingley Junior in between drills orright after the ones maybe have left the
field. It's noticeable when CJ.Stroud leaves the field and he goes and
he did this today. He wastalking immediately to Gerard Johnson, the quarterback
coach, and then Stefan Diggs comesover and he's talking to them. He
talks to Dell all the time.He talks to Nika all the time,
he talks and talks and talks, and I mean this in the absolute best
(01:41:01):
way possible, because he feels likethis is honestly, this is who he
was in Minnesota, this is whohe was in Buffalo, and this is
who he's going to be here becausethat's who he is. And I don't
think it's after he became a productivereceiver. I think it's just because this
is the type of person that heis. He is trying to make other
players better, He is trying toshare his knowledge, he is trying to
(01:41:23):
learn more from them. Bobby Sloksaid to me the other day, he's
a player. He brings energy, brings you. You know, he's been
so good. He wants to becoached. Stefana actually used that same phrase
today. I want to get better. I want to be coached. I
want these guys to make this, you know better for me. He's I
know all the other stuff that's outthere, and I don't doubt some of
(01:41:43):
it, but I just just donot see that as a factor on a
negative in any way. And I'mnot trying to be fooled by what I
see because which you can't. Youcan't fool people with this stuff. It's
not fake. Well, I wantto go back to something that you said
that again, it's gonna see likeI'm making a big deal out of it,
But when you consider where the Texansare and why they're here, in
(01:42:04):
large part, I do think it'sat least significant. Anytime you or anybody
else comes into this studio or justsays this anywhere publicly and says, hey,
the defense one today, that's significantto me. I don't care if
it's training camp. I don't careif it's practice, because that means you
beat CJ. Stroud. Yeah,I know it definitely, it can feel
(01:42:25):
that way. I think it's moreof the timing of where they are.
You know, they're four days in. Yeah, there's no tackling, there's
no helmets, there's no shelves orno nothing. So it's that's a good
thing, is what I'm saying.Though, Well, when you can't really
man, when you can't hold themfor one thing, and the pads aren't
on yet, it's just it.It's some. I mean there were probably
three plays in a row with theirsecond team out there. They're reserves.
(01:42:45):
I know, it'll stop holding defensivetackles. We're just blowing through the line
just blowing up plays because they're justit's not because they're overwhelming the good or
too strong, or they're just alittle bit ahead with what takes place in
pres But I'm not gonna sugarcoat atall. The offense did actually look bad.
They had to play where they couldn't, They didn't even take a snap.
Did the line look bad? Thoughspecifically I can't. I'm not.
(01:43:09):
I don't even want it adds onexact, I don't even want to entertain
that for two reasons. You know, that's been my concern, though it
should be. If it's not yourconcern, then you're just not paying attention
to the Texans. The easiest questionto answer about the Texans in twenty twenty
four, what is the biggest concern, What is the biggest weakness? What
is the biggest reason why they don'twin? The same answer, It is
their offensive line. You can't youcan't tell me you're putting your best foot
(01:43:32):
forward. If you're able to saythat, I'm saying it today. They
have I just mean the Texans,I mean everybody should say it today.
They have to prove that it's nottheir biggest weekends. They have to prove
it's not the reason they're going toThey're not gonna lose because their running game
isn't gonna work if you can winwithout it. They're not gonna lose because
their wide receivers can't play because theycan. They're not gonna lose because they
(01:43:53):
run out of tight ends because they'reactually fairly well suited now by adding Stover
to at least a good top three. They're going to not win football games
because they don't win when they havethe ball in the trenches. It's probably
true on the other side, butI feel more confident that they will win
in the trenches when their DA ison this and it's obvious theress the moves
they made to address it. Now, I'm not saying they didn't do anything
(01:44:15):
with the offensive line, but comparedto the defense, yeah, the likelihood
when they hit the field against Indianapolis, it's almost certain they will play with
five players that were on the teamlast year. Their starting offensive line will
be five returning Texans. It willbe shack Mason Kenyon Green at the guards,
it'll be Titus Howard Laramie Tunsel atthe tackles, and it will be
(01:44:38):
Juice Scrugs starting at center. Theywere all here last year. Now Kenyan
obviously didn't play, but he's beenunderwhelming, which he would agree with during
his first two seasons. Definitely wantsto prove people wrong and have people eat
their words, and I think hisbody says he's ready to do that.
Playing at about three point fifteen currently, a much better weight than he's been
with previously. They did not goout side this team to make this year's
(01:45:01):
team better. Clearly, Blake Fisherwasn't here last year, and clearly he's
taking He's taken one hundred percent ofthe first team reps at left tackle.
He is the backup currently to LaramieTunzel, and that's not a bad thing.
That's actually a good thing. Ithink it's totally reasonable. This is
another thing we talked about on draftnight. They took Blake Fisher. I
feel confidence saying if Blake Fisher wasplaying left tackle at Notre Dame in twenty
(01:45:25):
twenty four, which would have beenthe case replacing Joeald had he stayed in
school, he's probably off the boardin the top twenty twenty five. It's
probable that he's one of the topthree, four five tackles in next year's
draft. You just drafted him ayear early. I think some people thought
maybe that's an overdraft because of whathe hadn't done in college, because he
once was their left tackle. Thenhe was replaced very early in his career
(01:45:47):
due to injury by Joe Alton. That was that they had one of the
best players in the country at theposition, so he did not get it
back, and this year I thinkhe certainly would have. But he's not
likely to be on the field. He's only gonna be on the field if
one of those guys isn't at tackle. Unless Howard is hurt or Tunsel is
hurt, he's not playing this year. You might not have known this,
(01:46:08):
but you were supposed to make mefeel better. I can't. I can't
know you. Scrudge is gonna bebetter in twenty four than he was in
twenty three? Yeah? Absolutely,Plus he was hurt last year when the
year started. Is Kenyon green tohave his best season? Absolutely? Can
he outplay the players that played leftguard a year ago? I think he
can. Yeah, there's no reasonto think they can't do it. But
until they do do it, Ican't have supreme confidence that it's going to
(01:46:32):
get done. And and again itgoes into the other areas of the team.
It shouldn't be a hard answer ora hard question to answer where their
weaknesses lie. It's it's very clearthat's where it is for the Texans.
We'll come back talk more about that, but right now I'm gonna tell you
about maximus tribe dot com. What'smaximustribe dot com. Well, they offer
you a testosterone protocol. What's thatfor? That's for your life and those

airing. Thus that's what we havefor you here. Handful of items either
we've not yet gotten into or needto revisit of, including the Astros roster
move today in advance of their seriestonight against the Oakland Athletics. Led Miss
Diaz will be at Joe Aspota's disposalshould he so choose to use him.
Greg Kescher gets optioned back to theSpace Cowboys, and the forty man roster
(01:48:29):
spot that was needed for Daz tobe a part of the twenty six man
roster was opened up by hitting DavidHensley with a DFA. See what that
leads to. Spencer Arighony gets theball tonight, Hunter Harris on the mound
for the Oakland Athletics, who havebeen mashing the baseball in case you missed
it, the high scoring team inbaseball this month is the Oakland A's.
(01:48:50):
They scored one hundred and ten runs. Nobody else has more than ninety seven.
That's seven point three runs per game. They're nine to six this month.
The Astros ten and six this month. I'm gonna play amateur sports reporter
here and talk about baseball and notreport on anything, but tell you something
(01:49:11):
and act like I am if theteam needs a player at a certain position,
I'm just gonna throw a name outthere and pretend like after maybe a
deal goes down a week or twolater, that I'm the one who had
it first. That's what some peoplein New York try to do. They
also tried to sneak on the showearlier, but we quickly eliminated that possibility.
I think it's hilarious. I meanI even heard it today and I'm
(01:49:32):
like, this is something I absolutelypositively can't ever want to hear, so
we're not gonna play. I thinkit's hilarious how much it bothers you so
pathetic. And it's so pathetic peoplethat keep asking him for his information,
Well you he wants to be.He is actually fine at reporting things,
(01:49:53):
but when he pretends to report itmakes me crazy. He's pretending to report
that the Astros have interest in theZak Perettis of the Tampa Bay Rays,
who may only be in Celo modebecause they're Tampa. They're not in celmo
because they're out of it. That'sjust the flavor of the day, though.
Yeah, they're just they've been tiedto Vlad with similar little blurbs,
(01:50:15):
but there actually have been phone reportedphone calls. The Astros have reached out
to the Blue Jays, the youknow, Blue Jays have indicated a trade
players, Like, that's not whathe's saying. This player plays a position.
The Astros have a weakness, whichis fine if you're doing it in
the sense that we do all thetime. That's the thing. These are
names that we've said all the time, but it gets put out there.
(01:50:38):
Well, it's it's out there now, Like he literally says, this hasn't
been out there because it's not. You're not actually reporting it. But yes,
if the Astros are interested in ourfirst baseman, who could potentially also
play third base if they had anopening there, like they might after this
year, yeah, Peretis might makesome sense. He's not necessarily or not
yet tied to some mega money dealand there are some years of control,
(01:51:01):
and Tampa has shown a willingness tosay, well, that guy's really good,
We're not gonna keep him. Hemakes too much money and our development
system is second and nounce. Wecan just replace him with another player you've
never heard of and will be justfine kind of competing in the American League
East. But hat tip to JohnnyH for that strong non report. Johnny
(01:51:21):
H? What else we may havemissed? Okay, well there goes story
number one. How about would JamesPaxton possibly interest? Also could absolutely positively
could not stomach a minute and sevenseconds of John Hayman saying all that I
cut it down the forty five, but is not our favorite baseball reporter named
John that we have on the show. That's actually a real statement, No
(01:51:42):
sarcasm there, you're going, sorry, Dan, go ahead? Would James
Paxton interest you? Guys? Dodgersdfad him eight and two of a four
point four to three e er thisyear. Yeah, because of their need,
I'm not looking forward to him beingexceptionally effective. But from a need
standpoint, I mean, I don'tknow how the astros hands and feet and
(01:52:04):
eyebrows and hair isn't burned. They'vebeen playing with fire for almost a full
season, definitely for the last monthor so. I mean, they're handing
the ball to Spencer Araghetty every dayfor almost a full season, okay,
banding the ball every fifth day,and they're doing the same thing now for
a third start with Jake bloss. It's fine to expect JV to come back.
It's even fine to expect Luis Garciato throw pitches for you this year.
(01:52:27):
But every day they aren't, andevery day you only have really five
capable starters. As you've made thisthis season matters again, you're back in
first place. You're now trying tohold these other teams off as your schedule's
clearly going to be a little bitmore difficult on paper in August or the
end of July and August than itjust was, as you won eighteen out
of twenty five games. While Irealize by saying this, I'm immediately gonna
(01:52:53):
have to be taken to task bythe fact that when he pitches and doesn't
make it to the sixth inning.Talking about air game, it taxes an
overly taxed already bullpen. But atwhat point is it not playing with fire.
If you keep winning the games, these guys are starting in more often
than not. And again, theonly reason I say this is because earlier
today our good friend Matt Thomas wastalking about the fact that he's just not
(01:53:17):
that convinced they go out and geta starter, because then you're having to
bump somebody out of a you're talkingabout the playoffs, a fourth starter and
decide. But I mean, depthis depth is depth. So I get
it from both sides. I getthey have three starters for the playoffs.
If they started today, they havethe guys that just threw the first three
(01:53:38):
games against Seattle. Hunter Brown wouldget a spot, Ron Bervaldas would get
a spot, and Renel Blanco.Okay, So assuming Justin Verlander comes back
and there's no serious issues there, sir fourth, okay, so this other
pitcher is not allowed to be onthe roster. He can't pitch you out
of the final you know, inningsfive through seven in a game. But
yeah, but you haven't even namedthe names that you haven't gotten to yet
that are on the roster. Imean, Spencer Gett' starting a playoff game
(01:54:00):
for the Astros seems rather remote. It'll never happen. Okay, So what's
the difference if a newcomer who joinsthe team for the final two months also
doesn't start a game. Now,they're gonna probably use a fourth starter if
they get into a series that dictatesthat, and if they haven't swept them,
or whatever the case may be.So I'm not saying it's a perspect
I don't play the Yankees. Well, somebody they a fourth starter is going
(01:54:20):
to be needed. But if allthings go well, all four of those
guys are currently astros. If you'reonly adding Paxton, if you're only elevating
lur if you're only adding these pitchersthat are available, and in his case,
he's literally anybody who wants me,if you're trading for somebody bigger than
that, And again, it onlytakes one GM to like your system.
(01:54:42):
You can be the twenty seventh rankedsystem in baseball in terms of prospect.
But if GMx likes your fifth ratedprospect and your eighth rated prospect and you're
totally fine with getting rid of themfor more of a frontline guy, and
maybe it's financially speaking why he's available, well then you still might be able
to pull off a deal for somebodywho slates in earlier in your rotation,
which only makes you stronger. Imean, it's the worst thing in the
(01:55:03):
world, isn't to have too manystarters for a playoff series. I'll take
that any day. It also meansyou got there. You figure it out
as you move forward. Actually there. Yeah, I'm a little surprised that
he's available, considering how many problemsthey've had. He's been a little bit
too out of the strike zone thisyear as the leader in walks. Where
(01:55:24):
is Garrett Crochet by the way,I don't see it would make their training.
He's so good. It's like, this should be a cornerstone player that
you're when you're gonna win, whichyou might be able to do in the
next three or four years. Heshould be the he should be your ace.
You're just gonna dump him? Well, you're you're the White Sox and
never I mean, seriously, that'smy concern when you're always dumping, Like,
(01:55:47):
what who do you keep? You'rethe Pittsburgh Pirates, except they've finally
gotten to the point where they absolutelyyou do that ten years to do it
again. Garrett Cole played in theplayoffs for them ten years pay more for
the Astros, Sue and then theYankees also true. All right, well,
I do think it'll be interesting,but I I my gut tells me
(01:56:09):
that even with everything that's happened,as we get closer and closer that win
the Astros, if the Astros andI think they will make a move,
it will be underwhelming on paper. On the field, it could absolutely pay
dividends, as it has so manyother times. It feels like when it
has been an underwhelming move. Wewill come back and finish up the show
(01:56:30):
here on a Monday edition of theA Team Sports Talk seven to ninety some

final just twelvesh minutes. That's next. I want to tell you guys about

I can't stay with a straight face. They almost beat They almost lost
(01:58:04):
to Germany in a game of basketball. Yeah, oh no, I missed
that. What happened? It wason the front Pait Well lebron page on
the newspaper of Espen dot Com.No, they don't have those anymore,
do they. They have newspapers, they have them like actual papers. What
they're light? Yeah? Would youstill steal it from the front elevator?
(01:58:27):
I wanted. This guy used towork with my dad at the same company.
They were in different studios, andhe would take the sports page out
of the paper that my dad woulduse. The rest of well, he
wasn't using it. He didn't careabout sports until I started doing this.
You know that. I don't knowhow I ever got into this business.
It's nice of him. He's showingsupport for you. Here's what you do
(01:58:49):
with your life off I support that. The only supporting event that I remember
growing up my parents watching religiously, and the only one was the Indie five
hundred for the commercials, I don'tknow, it's the Super Bowl of Auto
racing for the commercial if they Ifwe were watching the Super Bowl for several
years when I was very very young, it was because we just happened to
(01:59:09):
be at a get together that theirfriends had. There were some, I
would imagine there were some auto racingenthusiasts that were uh little less than happy
about the breaking news breaking into therace coverage this past weekend. But anyway,
Elenis Diaz, the new astro.Yeah, is their first basement tonight.
(01:59:30):
No way, they are facing aleft handed pitcher for the A's,
so Singleton with the night off,I think so little of you that we're
going to take the guy that youguys just cast off and start him at
first base and he's going to hita home run. Now that last part
I added, he's looking for hisfirst homer. It would be his he's
only got three hits this year.Uh, he's batting eighth. Chas McCormick,
who's only slightly better than that,he's batting ninth. So geez,
(01:59:55):
Chazz, that's rough. Yeah,it is al Tuo ve Bregman Alvarez the
other dz Jiner that's fourth again andplaces catcher PAYNYA. Myers, Dubon and
left a ledmis Ds and Chas McCormick. You didn't get me. You didn't
let me finish my dream team.I know. No, No, I'm
glad you brought that up because VinceYoung, Michael Keaton, whatever, I
(02:00:15):
love that SoundBite. If I wereto tell you that Lebron James leads Team
USA past Germany in London is theheadline, okay, basically saying he takes
over it's a game winner. Again, well, he was the reason he's
doing this at thirty nine years old. He's the flag bearer. Blah blah
(02:00:40):
blah. Who would you take asthe first, second, third, and
tenth guesses as the who wrote thisarticle for Spin dot com. Come on,
it's his personal mouthpiece. There's yourhint, Brian Windhors. I don't
know why he sounds like kermit.Yeah, that's the Uh, that's the
thing. Ninety two eighty eight wasthe final and again twenty points six boards
(02:01:00):
for assists. Yeah, but thoseare hardly representative of the force he played
with. And I quote from thearticle, And the funny thing is you're
quoting the article writer, not quotingor saying a quote from the article.
I'm going to read this as itis written, utilizing the dashes that are
in place, as James won ona basket steel basket rebound, free throw
(02:01:23):
rebound run during the middle of thefourth quarter. God late, tell us
you love Lebron James. Without tellingus you love Lebron James, you said
it was hardly representative of the forcehe played with. So it says,
b dubs, do you think it'sthe same force that Michael Jackson was talking
about? When would he talk aboutforce? Was he on the ranch?
No? It was remember his firsthis first solo album, off the Wall.
(02:01:45):
Okay, we'll call it. Yes, what did he What was the
force? He's talking about the force? Oh, you mean like the space
force and the force and he goesthe force that is strong and that one.
Yeah. Yeah, I'm just wonderingif if it's the same force or
if this is a different Lebron force. This is brute force. This brute
force on one end of the floorin the lights. It's a little different
(02:02:09):
competitive setting. It is pretty alarming. I think each time they go out
to the court and they don't dominate, and once again they again I recognize
how the talent level of these otherteams, you know, but okay,
for them to have twelve great guyskind of at some point probably doesn't matter.
There's only five guys on the court, and the difference between your five
and they're five all for the lastseveral years, it's just not as great
(02:02:30):
of a difference as everyone wants tobelieve that. It is the funniest thing,
though, is for all of theLebron truthers out there, because they
just they have the biggest chip ontheir shoulder. But you can't possibly argue
that there's another guy that once playedbasketball that's better than your guy. They'll
point to things like the competition.I mean, you look at how far
Okay so was. He just supposedto say, nah, I'm not going
(02:02:53):
to do this there. He wasthere because they couldn't beat the competition four
years earlier. And secondly, theypoint to things like Charles Barkley was the
guy who led in scoring and rebounding. Have you ever seen Charles Barkley's SoundBite
about that very subject. He's like, I can go and put up these
numbers in the NBA in any givennight, but like, it's hard because
(02:03:15):
I'm playing NBA competition. I'm withlike the best players ever in the game,
and they're all my teammates. Thisis easy. Like the fact that
Jordan didn't lead. The only reasonthat surprises me at all is because of
how uber competitive he was, andso he would have to look back in
time and say, oh, Ididn't lead him points in rebounding. But
I mean, we all know whathappened to the practices, So I'm good.
(02:03:39):
I'm still good with saying Jordan wasthe best ever in every way,
shape and for him. I mean, that's amazing. It is amazing that
people think he wasn't people that areLebron stands every time this comes up,
but it always ends with that youjust like Lebron a lot as a basketball
player. You think he's better thanMichael. The words never came out.
(02:03:59):
I put him right in there evenif I did mean which you don't I
which I don't, because you're smartand have a brain. What it's I
will, I will kind of acknowledge, at least the way I see I
don't really see it as much ofa debate, and I know it exists,
and I know there's people on bothsides, so certainly that means there
is one. I don't. Idon't believe there's much of an argument,
and it's if you're the second orthird best player and whatever. Sometimes it
(02:04:20):
feels like, obviously there should besomething for much of Peyton and Brady's career
as contemporary Clearly there was one,as Joe Montana's Super Bowl rings now were
passed by one guy. He stillseems like he has a Because I'm trying
to pull different era players like Montanaversus versus Manning, or Montana versus anybody
else, it totally sounds reasonable.I just don't really feel like that with
(02:04:44):
Lebron. I don't even know thatI could recognize this greatness and I don't
mean it to say that way.And the fact that he's playing at this
level at this age is also that'sunmatched. But that doesn't necessarily make you
better than somebody else when in theirlong prime versus your longer prime, they
were better than you. You wantto see if Lo Lima's phone's working better
this time around. I mean,I guess better make it quick, but
(02:05:08):
Alma, you've got a minute. What's up? Man? It's raining cats
and dogs out here in the woodlands, and I just want to know why
you guys are talking about Lebron Jamesand not Joey low Perfido low berfdos catch
you o tonight. By the way, it was magnificent, not one,
but two. He had two catchesin that game. Well, Cabbage on
(02:05:30):
one side and on the other.Yeah, great Trey Cabbage on in right
field. He's stubbing in for Kentuck. You doing Lima, Are you okay?
Time? Long time? I knowwe're up against the hour. I
just want to know your thoughts onSpencer Araghetty's outing tonight. I'll thanks,
I'll hang up and listen six amweekday mornings right here on your flagship for
(02:05:55):
the Houston Astros in your Houston Rockets. As Brian Lolma co host The Sean
Salister, I feel as good aboutSpencer Arraghetti's performance tonight as the run support
he gets from one A ledmis Daz. How about that. Keep these guys
in the building. They've been mashing. I know people are in love with
how Jordan's been playing lately. Hestill trails Brent Rooker pretty much across the
(02:06:17):
board. Well, if you keepRooker in check, you're good because he
has every category for them. He'sbeen unbelievable this year and nobody's paid any
attention to it. Try to tellyou, at least this is not as
much of a walkover pushover team aspeople are making them out to be.
You should be able to score.Gonna be difficult, has been difficult to
slow them down, but hopefully theAstros can be back here tomorrow to talk
(02:06:39):
about it. Obviously, another practiceon the field tomorrow, weather permitting for
the Houston Texans. Looking forward toadd that to our conversation as well.
For Dan and Ac, Wex'll doit all again tomorrow
