Speaker 1 (00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Talking Your Teams series,
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
The A Team A Team.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Let's get it on Houston on a Monday edition of
the A Team Sports Talks seven ninety wex over there,
ac right here and oh yes, by the way, simulcast
on Spates City Home Network, as we take you up
until six o'clock tonight. As per usual, it's an NFL Monday,
we are going to talk all things Texans. After a
nineteen to thirteen win that you could very easily argue
(00:42):
should have been more of a margin of victory. I
would say that's safe to say, and probably there's going
to be, at least from this chair today, at least
for a segment, we'll have some conversations about the officiating
crew last night.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
But it wasn't the driving force, wasn't anything like that.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
I just felt like there were a lot of factors,
both self inflicted and otherwise that kept that from being
a more decisive victory for your Texans. In the meantime,
if you had the Texans undefeated through two weeks and
the rest of the division er foer through the first
two weeks, of the NFL calendar on your Bengo card
where you're sitting pretty right now. I don't think the
(01:23):
division is this bad, but it's not as good.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
As I thought it was. It's probably the safest thing
to say.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
Eight contest results from these four teams A two and
oh and three to zero to twos. Every single game
involving an AFC South team has been a one score game.
Each team could have probably come out of it saying yeah,
we probably should have won that one, and each team
might be able to come out of them other than
the Texans to say yeah, we probably could have lost
that one, because last night was not one of those games.
(01:50):
As much as the score was close, just a one
score game, the other team needed to have a chance
to win, meaning they needed to be ahead of you,
or they need to have a real chance to beat you,
or needed to have a throw to beat you, which
crazy enough as it sounds. Indianapolis did have that yesterday,
Tennessee did have that yesterday. The Jaguars had it on
(02:10):
more than one occasion over the course of their two losses.
But I think bigger things are afoot for the Texans.
Every team has to discuss it initially, and no teams
win a division out of the gate, but their competition
is not Indianapolis, Jacksonville, or Tennessee. They have to play
them five more times. Hopefully that is five more wins.
(02:32):
It's not likely you're not necessarily gonna sweep every team
in a divisional much how much, no matter how much
better you are than they are. But the discussion as
we move into week three, one of the three remaining
undefeated teams on the Texans schedule is this week Minnesota
is two and oh. Two weeks after that they see
two and oh Buffalo, and again, who knows if that
(02:53):
team will still be undefeated. Then they play Monday night
against Jacksonville, so they'll probably be three and oho. Kansas
City barely two and zero, and that's obviously much much
later in the season. I would venture to guess they
will not be undefeated when the Texans faced them.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
But so far this season and.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Through next week's game in Minnesota, the Texans will not
have played any team with a loss thus far until
they lost to the Texans. And we'll get to the
game when we get there. We got to talk this
one first, but I do think the same thing will
happen next week when they face Minnesota. But a lot
of talk about last night's game is warranted. Over the
(03:30):
next three hours, you heard somebody in one of these
two chairs, and it's not me say the Texans we're
gonna go four and oh this weekend, and along with
the Astros, Houston would go four and oh with those
two teams they did. Means the Astros handled their business.
They saw, hey, man, people like drama, right, people like
unnecessary heart attacks right. Well, they tried to give you
(03:52):
one yesterday and closing out the sweep of the angel
still winning at six to four, needing their closer to
jump on board in a game, and they led six
to nothing after seven innings, but it only is a win,
and they needed all of them since the Rangers tried
to tease everybody with look at the pitchers, we're getting
back this weekend, even though they can only pitch four
innings apiece. And that's one of the main reasons why
(04:14):
they came up short yesterday. Not even one of those
days their offense didn't score any runs. Well, they obviously
did not beat the Mariners. So three straight days we
left you here on Friday, we're back here on Monday,
and the only things that's changed with the Astros is
the magic number, because the division lead did not change.
They lead the Mariners by four and a half games.
Houston has thirteen games remaining. The first of those thirteen
(04:38):
is tonight right here on Sports Talk seven to ninety
and of course on Space City Home Network, first of
three on the road back half of the six game
West Coast road trip in San Diego. Mariners are off tonight,
so it'll put the Astros and Mariners back on track
to see the same teams on the field themselves each
night the rest of the way, twelve games remaining for
(04:58):
the Mariners. They are now four games over five hundred
to the Astros thirteen with thirteen to play at eighty
one and sixty eight to those two four wins this
weekend well got us most of the way this afternoon.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yeah, the Mariner's running out of games basically to make
up this division, and uh so, yeah from the standpoint
of the Astros, a good weekend against a bad team.
But this is going to be a Texans centric day
and it should be. Did not plan on attending that
game at all. In fact, going into Saturday midday, I
(05:32):
wasn't even planning on attending that game, and then suddenly
I was not only at the game, sitting smack dab
in the middle of that atmosphere last night with Again,
I can't remember a primetime game where the roof was
open in the history of the team. I probably am
forgetting one. It's been twenty plus years, but I don't
(05:53):
think that's the case. And it was cool, and I
thought it was going to be a lot more you know, muggy,
or maybe even take away from some of the noise
than it did.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
I will say it didn't seem.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
As noisy in there as I had remembered during an
actual game where I was not cooped up in a
press box where the glasses, you know, separating you from
the real noise of everything.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
Yeah, my atmosphere last night, to me, was extremely similar
to every other game I've attended with the glass up.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
It was it. It changes. Unfortunately I said it as
a negative. Why don't they.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Open those glass glass partitions? Is that what they're called?
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I mean, they're windows.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yeah, but you know you have to use a fancy
word when it's talking about a sporting structure.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
I feel, yeah, a window. It just doesn't open like
your home window. That's all, well, you're not looking if
you have a skylight at your at your home. Sometimes
you got to grab the apparatus and attach it to
the hook and spin it around until the window opens.
Sometimes it's mechanically seems arjuous button. Maybe you you roll
into a hotel nicer one and you just push the button. Boom,
(06:52):
the shades go right open. That's kind of what some
of these. It was roof open. It was a little
bit of a light show with what the fans had
both before the game, during the game, halftime show, and
after the game. The football there is a lot to
dissect from what did go well, and definitely things did
not go well at least twelve things did not go well.
(07:13):
Yellow handkerchiefs on the field, over and over and over again,
and the Texans really don't have anyone to blame but
themselves for the vast majority of those. Something that they
certainly should be able to have a little bit more
control over certain crews more known for certain penalties, and
I do think they had one such crew last evening.
But nonetheless, they found a way to put themselves in
(07:34):
a good position to play from in front for the
second week in a row. Last week they closed with
their offense. Defense couldn't stop the Colts in the fourth quarter,
so the offense said, well, they can't stop us either,
and we'll put this one away without ever giving the
lead away. And last night it was pretty much the
offense opposite. The offense scored on four of their first
five possessions, although only one of them was a visit
(07:55):
to the end zone, and then they couldn't score in
the second half, just the lone field goal, but maintain
the lead throughout. Defense put in some awful positions over
and over and over again, even after turnovers, even with
two possessions starting in Bear's territory in the second half,
they just couldn't put the finishing touches on what should
have been a much more dominant victory. They did have
(08:17):
their first turnover of the season, and that's one of
the things I just mentioned. They had a chance to
put the game away inside the red zone, which they
did not visit very often last week, the five yard
line and cam Akers got the handoff and he fumbled
the football.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Why there was cam Akers out there.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
Because Joe Mixon had already tried to come back and
was unsuccessful in doing so from an ankle injury. And
that is another topic of conversation, a pretty interesting one
because of the manner in which he got hurt. But
these are this is a team and I actually asked
Anico Collins this after the game, Because any given year,
you're gonna have a bunch of close games, You're gonna
(08:53):
have a bunch of one score games. You'll put up
your record in that. If it's roughly five hundred, nobody
will think much of it. You know, you win some,
you lose some, and you go to the next year.
If it's way under five hundred, the assumption is, oh, well,
lit'tle just even out next year. If it's way over
five hundred, if you want eight of your nine close games,
well they're probably not that good.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
They just got lucky. It's just the roll of the dice.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
In twenty twenty two worked out, wait till twenty twenty three,
it won't work out quite so well. That's the stance
I think too many people, foolish people took about the
Texans last year. They had a bunch of close games,
and they won the majority of those close games, and
being a young team and having a target on their
back and playing a first place schedule. It's just a
small impact on your overall seventeen games Slate. I think
(09:35):
that gave people on Avenue to say, here's how they
come back to the back, here's why it won't quite
work out.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
Well.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
They're two games in, both close games, both won score games,
Both games were won in the fourth quarter, once with
their offense on the field, once with their defense on
the field, and they're two to zero.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Yeah, here's the deal.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
I'm never ever going to complain about a win because
the alternative is just much worse, especially in the NFL
where you only get seventeen of these things to determine
what's going to happen with your season after the regular
season is over. But I guess I'll choose the first
segment to get my portion of the wet blanket conversation
(10:13):
out of the way.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Since that's you know, then we can move on to it.
I believe you're slated to bring it back at four
point thirty.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
Yeah I will. Yeah, good, but yeah, that's true. Got good, bad,
and Ugly today, Texans Edition. I believe your your turn
in the rotation came up with ugly. I would assume
an ugly about the Texans game. It's probably a bit
of a wet blanket.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Yeah, so I have to shoot because I have two
things in mind. But I'll just go ahead and kind
of do the cliffs Notes version of the one that
comes directly to mine everything that we've seen through two weeks,
and again, your opponent can dictate how you feel, how
strongly you feel or don't feel about a certain aspect
of a game.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
I am just I've never been more sure that I
was right about fortifying that offensive line. And I know
that sounds crazy since it basely flip flop from last
year where they just did not have a solid running
game and last night wasn't solid. It was awful, Yeah,
but it was so good the first week that you
have to factor that in.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
But you also have to factor in the defense. I
can't see C. J.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Stroud get hit like that much more without just getting
sick to my stomach.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
Looks like you're not going any more games then.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Seriously, I mean it is going to be a absolute
storyline moving forward, and when they start playing actual good
teams and good defenses.
Speaker 5 (11:30):
They did play a good defense. Yes, I think we'll
I'll not saying anything away from the Bears. The Bears
did last night play strong defense, and will I think
the court over the course of the season be a
strong defense.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
We were so close to having a nineteen to ten
final on a Sunday night, nationally televised game inside that stadium,
but es, yeah, exactly all right. So yeah, there's a lot,
a lot to get to, a lot of meat on
the bone. And of course Stan Norfleet will join us
in the five o'clock hour to talk all things NFL
and Texans as well.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Going to be a big show today on a Monday
edition of the A Team.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
The at on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Let's talk about getting more with more law firm and
what we mean when we say that is, yeah, the
storms have come through. Barrel was one of them, and
there's always a storm brewing around these parts. And the
damage may have been done to your home. But if
you're just now beginning the struggle with your insurance company,
that is not the game you want to play, especially
if you have paid your premiums and you filed that claim.
(12:24):
What if they're dropping you because you file a claim.
Insurance companies are the worst sometimes and so that's where
more law firm comes into play, specializing and getting storm
victims the compensation they deserve. And they know what they're
doing because they've been fighting those very insurance companies for
over thirty years to get a hold of them.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
Two ways to go about.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
It seven one three four two four forty forty seven
one three four two four forty forty that's the telephone number.
They do not get paid unless you do no recovery,
no fee. You can also check them out online at
their website and get more information at Houston windstorm dot com.
That's Houston windstorm dot com.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Back to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler the eight on
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Eighteam rolling along here on Sports Talk seven ninety in
Space City Home Network, Astros sweeping the Angels and the
Texans capping off a four to zero Houston weekend with
a nineteen to thirteen victory over the Bears.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Dominant.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
They were dominant even though the scoreboards said otherwise. So
that's really the only thing that matters. Obviously, some parts
of the game we want to get into. It usually
starts with the quarterback play and CJ.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
Stroud. It not numbers related just like a week ago.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
But if you watch where the ball goes when it
leaves his hand, even if he's on the run, even
if it's being chased, even if there's no room, even
if there's no window, even if the receiver's covered, it's
almost always right where it's on the money.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
It's incredible.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
I think he had another exceptional performance, but it does
need to extend into more points. I can't believe that
we're going to see. I mean, I can't do the
math that quickly. But every game you hit three fifty
yard field goals, and they have fifteen more games and
seventeen total, So fifty one for fifty one on fifty
(14:15):
plus yard field goals is what Kayumi Fairbarn is.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
Going to do.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
Probably thinking a little bit high on that one, probably
a little bit off base with that on pace guy nonsense,
But it is worth discussing early in a three o'clock
show that Kamy Fairbarn has been unreal and far being
for me to be a conspiracy theorist. But we've seen
(14:39):
this before. We saw a ton in baseball because of
their the baseballs. We saw it briefly in football because
of the in deflate gates.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
The Golden baseballs.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
So is it possible here early in the show in
week two, just eleven days into the season, I think, ma,
the footballs aren't the same because every kicker in the
league is blasting successfully other than Justin Tucker. Somehow fifty
(15:12):
yarders left and right. I mean, the Chiefs basically sat
on the ball at the end of the game so
they could kick a fifty plus yarder to win it. Handoff, handoff,
handoff fifty one yarder in a game that wasn't tied. Well,
there's a little penalty there that you're kind of with. No, no,
I'm talking about after the penalty they sat on it.
They said, well, we're close enough, Harrison will make this,
and he did. And we just talked about last week.
(15:34):
Chris Boswell and Kayami were the first pair ever to
do what they did.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Nobody had ever done it once. They both did it
in the same game.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
We had a twenty one point game yesterday with seven
for seven on field goals in that game. It's incredible.
So maybe we'll table that and just take all these
Kayomi makes. By the way, he's seventeen of eighteen on
fifty yard field goals the last three seasons combined, so
at least for him, it hasn't come from out of nowhere.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
It's just so rapid.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
No that I said, seventeen of eighteen over those three years,
he's never attempted more than six fifty yard field goals
in any season of his career. He's already attempted six
fifty plus yardfield as.
Speaker 4 (16:12):
He made them all they needed them all.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
Yesterday kept him in position to recreate a two score
game on a couple of different occasions. Texans obviously we
mentioned it in the opening seven. They did not spend
much time in the red zone despite scoring five times
in yesterday's game. The first half they scored four times,
They ran one play, They snapped the ball one time
in the red zone, and it was the play that
(16:33):
Nico Collins ended up getting the penalty on for reacting
to somebody sticking their finger in their face and talking
mess to them. He was awesome after the game, by
the way, talking about it, saying you can't do that.
Nico is like really calm, really clear in his thoughts
from every moment of his life, except for the couple
(16:53):
hours prior to the game, the couple hours after the game,
and of course the game itself.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
He is different on the field.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
He is into bast mode, get off me mode, and
he displayed get off me. Immediately got the guy off
of him who stuck his finger in his face, slapped
him away and obviously took the penalty for it. Very
next play, same two guys are matched up, shoved him
out of the way, caught the ball to fifteen, carried
a guy into the end zone who would not let
go of him halfway into the end zone, so he
(17:19):
literally said get off of me and shoved him to
the ground. His as we said during the year last year,
and certainly indications are the same this year, an absolute star,
a lead dog amongst lead dogs, CJ. Stroud Dog, Dell Dog,
digs Dog. This is a lead dog. And the Texans
(17:42):
are in great shape offensively any week against anybody because
he's out there.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
He uh so again, not to go back to the
tickets that I came into at the last second, but
I have to say this because I've gone to a
million games there, most of which I've attended. They were
or eight stories up in the press box where you
know normally media would sit. But then you know, the
first few years, first six years of the franchise. I
watched every game like from on the field because I
(18:10):
was helping out with the radio broadcast I've been. I've
sat in the seats a handful of times because of
those two things. I was basically working most of the
games I've been to. I've never sat in seats like
this in my entire life. I mean basically fifty yard line,
about five rows up. Not saying that to brag.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
All the perfect seats for the halftime show. Oh yeah,
I had great date. They were right in front. Great video.
Yeah that was very Houston centric.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
But you you see so many and this is true
of any sport, you see so many things you don't
see on television. You don't see even if you're even like,
you know, a couple rows up. Uh, Nico Collins. Absolutely
that guy off the field. I mean legit on the sideline,
is what I'm saying. Stefan Diggs, remember when he stretched
(18:58):
out for that first draft down that he got. It
absolutely was a first down, and then they reviewed it
and saw that it was a first down and still
said that he didn't get a first down. He's over
at the sideline talking to us I e. The fans
in the stands last night saying my bad, that was
my bad. I should have gotten the first down, and
we're all like, you got screwed by the officials.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
You totally made the effort.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
I thought the ball had crossed the plane or the
pylon or whatever's right there to kind of dictate that,
and they saw it differently. CJ obviously up the most
up close I've seen him, and those passes you're talking
about are even more sensational in person, or even more
sensational closer down there in person, because he seriously has
(19:43):
ice water in his veins. He throws the ball and
it's just it's effortless. And his demeanor is what really
gets me. His demeanor going onto the field, his demeanor
coming off the field, his demeanor when he's in the pocket,
when he's running for his life and doing the Cardinals
in of throwing across his body, but it doesn't matter
because it's always going to go the exact place it
(20:05):
needs to, in the receiver's hands and not in the
two defenders.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
In many cases, you notice the last two weeks when
he's done that, and the one down the sideline is
not so far across his body, the one closer to
the middle of the field to Dell obviously was.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
And then another one last night that was the way
that was the sideline.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
I guess what I'm saying is it isn't really even
that dangerous because he's not throwing into a tight windows.
It was Nico last week, and I'm thinking of not
delt right, and they've created space. They're doing such a
good job. And this is where same page conversation comes in,
and it is good news that they've worked together before,
and it's not maybe it's early in the season, but
(20:43):
it's probably not a coincidence that it is those two players,
teammates of his from his entire career, that have found
that spot. There is a spot in that defense when
the entire defense, all eleven players are coming that way,
just like you are. There is a way for receivers
to create little space, a little avenue, a little opening
where even on a ball that doesn't have one hundred
(21:04):
percent stroud mustard on it, because you literally can't do
that when you're running the other way. They're going to
be the guy to get this shroud mustard. Yeah, it's
hard to get this. PJ Carlssmo know about this well,
has PJ come into the conversation because the supposed phrase
he used towards Latrelle's spree.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Well was you need to pull a bit or more
mustard on that pass, and that's why he got choked out. Okay,
similar mustard reference.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
A mustard reference in sports usually refers to the velocity
on whatever it is you're talking about and a throw
across your body, even for the most skilled talented gun
slinger a will Levis.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
If you will he's got a cannon, he'll tell.
Speaker 5 (21:39):
You it can't very difficult to put everything you have
on it because your body's telling you you can't do that.
But he's putting it where it's supposed to be, and
it's just over and over and over again. Yeah, I
can imagine being there that low and that close, and
I know a lot of people listening have been a
lot of people in the bullpen when they're in the
red zone coming that way or the other end zone,
(22:02):
or whether you just are lucky enough to have tremendous
seats at this stadium or any other NFL stadium. When
you've been there, you start to realize, how does he
see that right? How can you see through the traffic.
You start to realize, well, that's why the Saints ran
their offense the way they did with tiny Drew Brees,
(22:22):
because if they didn't, he wouldn't have been able to
see anything. He would not have been able to make
these plays happen. And finding a gap and setting up
blocking schemes and doing certain things to create those throwing windows.
His first nine throws, the only two that weren't complete.
One was batted by the linebacker did a tremendous job.
Was the opening play of the game, Jack Sam one
dropped in coverage or else they would add another huge
(22:44):
opening play gain. It was well designed, well executed, and
I think he probably did the right thing as a player.
Paid attention to his film study, and there was probably
something they had seen which allowed him to think, well,
if i'd take another step back here, that ball could
be coming this way. The other one was bad at
the line and everything else.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Was way up in the air, and it's the longest
two seconds of your life until it hits the turf.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
There were two throws last night, that one that landed
at the feet of a d lineman who was more
interested in blocking with his back to CJ rather than
looking up for the football and that was nice. And
then the last throw of the game where the on
rushing edge player believe it was a linebacker here he
just basically ran upfield and didn't ever see the ball
flying right by his face on the only throw they
(23:29):
made to try to run out the clock unsuccessfully. Like
I said, there are little bits and pieces like the
last time the Texans had the football before the kneel down,
that are worth dissecting their run game, worth dissecting. The
injury to Joe Mixon clearly for why it happened is
definitely a talking point in this game. And as the
coaches will tell you and we'll tell you the same,
(23:51):
fixed mistakes after win always always nicer. They are two
to zero and they have plenty of things they can
get better. Out more on the A.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Team on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
So remember after week one as we continue here on
Sports Talk seven ninety and Space City Home Network, WEXAC
with you on a Monday victory edition of the A Team.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
Yeah, Farbi it for us to call it victory Monday.
We're not on the team. We don't get the day off,
we're working.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Why can't we call it victory Monday? They call it
we want on Wednesday? Do we want to?
Speaker 5 (24:41):
But we still come in on Monday and Tuesday. We
work not mandatory. Well, it's much less physically taxing what
we do. Although my back on my left side I
kind of got a tweak man. I think I slept
funny on it. I think I slept on Alex Bregman's mattress.
So anyway, you know, it's it's good because you got
to win.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
We've talked about the fact that it should have been
more and one of the reasons it wasn't.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
There are several. We'll probably get through all the start
with whatever you got.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Well, the one that I want to concentrate on for
the purposes of this segment is the fact that they
turned the ball over on like the nch yard line. Now,
I don't know if cam Akers is fumble prone. I
just haven't been a close enough observer of his majority
of his career over in Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
I just maybe he is. Maybe he isn't. Some guys
have that.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
They're still good backs, but you know that at some point,
and there's never a good time to fumble, they're gonna
cough it up. We've had guys like that in Houston,
and we've had the opposite guys here in Houston, and
you know, when you've got a secure ball carrier. I
don't know if that's Cam's rep or not at this
point in his career, it is what it is. He
was only in there because the sidewalk slam got employed
(25:48):
on Joe Mixon.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
Now, he was working into the game last night a
little bit earlier than Pierce had been. Well, he was
active for starters. Well, I mean they put him on
the field. They took Joe Mixon out for a series
of plays in the first half in an effort to
keep him a little bit fresher and not run him
into the ground or use him into the ground, which
is for the most part what they did in week one.
(26:08):
And so he was part of the game plan. It's
amazing he only he had thirteen snaps in the game,
Cam Acers, he touched the ball on eight of them.
He carried the ball seven times and was thrown the
ball once. Probably should have been thrown the ball a
couple more times. One of the series he played was
the three and out where the Texans dropped back to
pass all three times and did not get a first down.
(26:29):
CJ was looking to make something happen and looking further
down the field rather than taking the three or four
yard gain to acres underneath on each of the first
and second down plays. But the hip drop tackle was
a huge point of emphasis in the NFL this offseason.
They instituted new rules on what you can and can't do.
Told players this is what you can't do, said this
is going to be officiated differently.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
Did acknowledge at the time, and I think.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
Even players knew this at the time about the difficulty
they would have in enforcing it. What they didn't know
is by their attempt to eliminate the difficulty for an
official to call it, was eliminating them calling it at all,
at least the fifth instance. Because I've looked around enough
and read enough, and washed enough games and seen enough
(27:13):
people that I know follow the game, cite these five
players who've been tackled in this fashion in not even
two full weeks of NFL games. We've got one more
game tonight. Two of those five have been injured on
these tackles, and you can see why it's outlawed when
you grab someone in that manner around the waist, lift
your whole body's weight off the ground and basically pull
(27:35):
them to the ground with their legs almost assuredly going
to be under the weight of your body. And that's
exactly what happened to Joe Mixon was right in front
of the text and sideline. It was very easy to
see he was in pain from the moment he went down.
Because that ankle was locked up underneath his leg. He
was able to limp off, get up, and limp off.
The medical ten happens to be right there, and his
(27:56):
use the rest of the day was clearly limited. Now
his production up until that point. Now he had a
sixteen yard carry and then nine yards the rest of
the game on eight carries.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
I didn't hit the obvious over yes, sixty nine and
a half.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
Well, that's that's the one thing about the NFL, when
you know you're talking about a player reaching what is
such an obviously attainable goal, even on I mean, he
could have easily gotten seventy yards on a bad day
if the volume is there.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
But injuries are a party wasn't going to get it
if he hadn't gotten hurt.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
Probably the team barely ran for seventy yards. Right The
team had an eighteen yard carry, a thirteen yard carry,
Akers had the thirteen, Dell had the eighteen, and Mixon's
first carry of the game, like I said, was sixteen.
That's forty seven yards. They had seventy five for the game,
well seventy six if you don't count the kneel down.
That means the entire rest of the game. Every one
(28:44):
of the other eighteen carries went for well under two
yards of carry. The Bears were very, very good. But
to the tackle itself, it is it's difficult to see
in real time. Some of if the pass interferences are
difficult to say see in time. Some quarterback uh necessary
unnecessary roughness penalties, those we get it. Some of them
(29:07):
are harder to see than others, and this one is
probably probably tops them all the roughing the passer calls,
This one probably tops them in difficulty for an official
to see and call in real time. But their two
week solution for that is not calling it at all
in game. And I do think we'll hear about the
fines for players moving forward, maybe from last week, maybe
(29:28):
for this tackle this week. I'm not sure that they'll
get so deep into it saying well, it wasn't quite
or clearly the players know it was. That's why Joe
Mixon was on social media last night saying, these exact
things you said this was going to be, and yet
you did not make this call.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
You haven't made the call. And that's why I look back.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
They haven't made any of the calls, and I think
it's because their solution for keeping the in game officials
from improperly making that call is to not call it
at all and let the finers and suspenders and tape
watchers afterwards take care of it. And to me, that
is a surefire away to have almost no impact on
(30:04):
the safety of the game and banning the tackle. Players
will take their fines, Teams will take the fines. Teams
will take the fines being doubled and tripled. It will
not eliminate that play if the team and the coaches
aren't penalized, if the Bears coach looking good Matt Eberfliss
over there with his new due, if his team was
(30:24):
penalized fifteen yards and the Texans were given an automatic
first down, and then it happened again in week four
and again in week six. He would tell these guys, look,
I'm not teaching this, and you guys better stop this
or you're gonna be off the field because it's impacting
their ability to get the team off the field when
they're on defense to get them a win in certain instances,
and obviously the reverse can happen. Demiko is probably not
(30:47):
happy about it because his bell coal running back. We
use the term bell coal last week with Bobby Slok.
He's on the sidelines because of it, and nobody's gonna
stop doing it because you hit them with a fifty
six one thousand dollars. Fine, even that's not going to
deter it if you really want it out of the game.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Right And you mentioned Joe Mixon on Twitter last night
or ex whatever you're you gonna call it. Just after
eleven thirty, so he's probably home, maybe at eleven third.
I don't remember what the time was when this whole
thing ended. I feel like he wouldn't be in the
locker room.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
An injured player most of the time isn't speaking to
the meetia. He did not get I noticed last night,
and so he's probably out of there a little bit sooner.
And his process is what do I need to do?
Go through the training table, what do I need to do?
How long do I need to stay here for that right?
And get out?
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Yeah, the NFL and the NFLPA made it a rule
and an emphasis for a reason.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Time to put your money where your mouth is.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
Then he followed that up by quote tweeting it a
little bit after midnight, so it's like exactly thirty minutes later,
he's like, you know what, I've got more to say
about this, So I'm going to quote tweet myself and say,
when I got up, I asked the ref where is
the flag?
Speaker 4 (31:57):
That was a hip tackle?
Speaker 3 (31:58):
And his reply was no, it wasn't, followed by the
face plant emoji faces again face.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
I didn't call it.
Speaker 5 (32:06):
They're gonna come back and say, yeah, it was if
there's a fine system in place, and I can't even
guarantee that there is, but if there is, they'll come
back and say, yeah, that's that's why we find it,
because that's what it was.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
And even if the.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
Referee might have been completely being truthful, like to his eyes,
he might not have seen it, which just reinforces the unfortunate.
It's a difficult penalty to be officiated at live game speed.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Yeah, no, I mean it is, But that does it.
That's not an excuse. True, these are your this is
your job. And if they're going to go out of
their way, which they did, and that's what he's talking about.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
Hey, this over here, this is good.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
We're getting this out of the game this year, Well
then you have to do it if if your job
as an official is to call that penalty. So, like
I said, we're gonna hear from Demico Ryans on that
exact thing, as well as the rest of the penalties,
and there are a lot. Last night, the laundry was
all over the field. We'll do that next when we
come back the eight on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
Ninety A win and an ice cold, refreshing bud Light,
the official beer of the NFL. Well, hopefully that was
in hand for you yesterday as you enjoyed the game,
or even the day before. Plenty of college football for
you to enjoy your ice cold bud Light, just like
I did this weekend, will throughout football season and other times.
Great tradition to enjoy on Sundays your bud Light always
(33:21):
makes things easy to enjoy, easy to Sunday. That is
bud Light for you, Anheuser Busch bud Light Beer Saint Louis, Missouri.
Speaker 6 (33:30):
Hey, it's Blummer.
Speaker 7 (33:31):
The eighteen continues with Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler. Baby,
there's more asses on this show than a certain mix
a lot video.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
And like your mother would not be proud.
Speaker 7 (33:43):
Right now, baby's got those hot takes.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
Come actually to close up at four o'clock hour, Plenty
of time to get in on the show and include
yourself in the discussion. Do that on the X platform
as well many other ways and also catches via cast
right there on Space City Home Network. A couple hours
from now, the Astros will have first pitch against the
San Diego Padres, the first of three. Their second to
last road trip of the season will come to its conclusion.
(34:11):
The last three road games of the year are at
the end of the year against these still first place Guardians.
They have seven home games in between the current road
trip and the final road trip of the season against
the Angels and then the Mariners. Astros have seven of
their final ten at home. The Mariners have six of
their final nine on the road. Astros currently lead by
(34:33):
four and a half games. Left you talking about the
Texans and the unfortunate situation with Joe Mixon.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
No real update expected.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
With Demiko Ryans meeting with the media early this or
earlier today just a few minutes ago about his situation,
I'm sure he will have little if any comment on
it until we get to later in the week when
we see on Wednesday that he is or is not practicing.
He will not be practicing, if I were to guess,
and it'll probably be closer to a little bit more
of a game time so situation. The fact that he
(35:01):
got back onto the field to play suggests there's probably
not an out designation coming his way for Friday, but
something more along the lines of let's see how much
we can get him better between today and Sunday after
a flight to Minnesota to take on the two and
Zho Vikings probably actually be the very same story for
(35:21):
their wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who missed the late portion
of their win over the San Francisco forty nine ers
with an injury. Their head coach today saying he's pretty good,
felt pretty good today. We'll listen him as day to
day moving forward. He was not, however, hurt via a
tackle that has we thought been banned.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Now and actually Jefferson himself said he's going to be
good to go to a quad. So if he's not
one hundred percent, I'll take it since he's absolutely terrifying
to think about covering for anybody, let alone even this defense.
But mentioned that you would hear from Demiko Ryan from
last night with his thoughts on that very thing, that penalty,
everything that we dissected about it last segment, the supposed
(36:02):
highlighted penalty of how you tackle players and how it
wasn't called last night.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
Dimiko had thoughts on the Joe Mixon injury.
Speaker 8 (36:10):
Yeah, so right there that Joe got you know, rolled up,
the guy's weight definitely came down on his ankle right
being looked good from my view. So will evaluate Joe
throughout the week. You know, hopefully he's okay. I have
to see the film to see was it really a
hip drop tackle. Have to see the film to see,
you know, if it was really that.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
Yeah, I mean that's when you're right after the game,
that's you hear that term a lot. While I go
back and look at the film. I mean famously, Gary
kubick I gotta go back and look at that. He's
battling though he's a good kid.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
Well, how else do you become a battle fighter? Well,
Demikoo and know he played for one and then his
said from his vantage point. You heard Demiko just say
hard to be in a better vantage point than Demiko was. Yeah,
I mean couldn't have been more than fifteen yards away
from him to.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
By the way, Just as a as an aside with
the basically sideline experience them kill Ryan's experience of him
as a coach on the sideline started before the game
even began. Everybody shows up on the sideline last night
wearing the white because that's what they were gonna wear.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
That was a big thing.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Tomi Go's like, nay, I'm gonna wear battle red whatever
you want to call it.
Speaker 5 (37:16):
Got to see the head coach. Gotta know where that
red mistake you might be coming from. And he did
address this earlier today this afternoon. Like I mentioned, he
met with the media during our program a little while ago.
He said, you can see why they want to get
the hip drop tackle out of the game, and he
believes the injury was caused by a hip drop tackle.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Another thing that they've been trying to get out of
the Okay, you keep trying to get things out of
a game that is primarily based on violence. That's why
everybody likes it. Why do you like watching fights? Why
do you like watching boxing or UFC? I want to
SEEFC three to zero six in the sphere in Vegas.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
What an absolute just experience.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
I shout out to Hunter Segesta, love him and so
happy that he took that gig with UFC because he
was having the time of his life in there.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
But yeah, why do we watch that stuff?
Speaker 3 (38:04):
Well, there's a good chance somebody's gonna get knocked the
bleep out, and that's why we watch NFL football for
the hits. There was a perfectly legal hit last night
on the Bear's tight end. I can't even remember, Yeah
who hit him though they got the penaltyte Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
A completely completely clean hit.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
Which they eventually got correct after a discussion.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
I was like, this is gonna be the latest one.
Everybody in our section was like, are you bleeping kidding me?
And there was two Bears fans sitting right in front
of us, no doubt they were like in from Chicago.
They did not look like they were locals who just
happened to be Bears fans. I know these things. Just
trust me on this. They were chased early in the
fourth quarter. But man, there was some hits last night.
(38:51):
And I don't know how Caleb Williams is walking today,
but Gingerly is probably putting it kind. He wasn't just
getting sacked. I mean will Anderson, he's probably seeing him
in his nightmares. And same with Danil Hunter. They just
bludgeon this kid last night. And to his credit, he
escaped probably five more sacks, legit sacks. He should have
(39:12):
been down three times on certain possessions and got out
of it. They have got to Both of these teams,
by the way, have got to do something about the
pass protection this offseason, primarily the Bears, though, I mean,
he is gonna run for his life.
Speaker 5 (39:27):
Major if you're asking me, major improvements from week one
to week two for rookie quarterback Kayla Williams and did
so fighting serious pressure. I think we're going to see
that the Titans actually have a pretty good defense also,
so he's now seen two very good defenses in his
two games in the NFL, and I think has shown
improvement in going up against them. The other part of
it is they have offensive line issues. They could have
(39:49):
been playing anybody, and that would also show back to
back weeks where DeAndre Swift in the run game was
an absolute zero. Credits to the Texans for helping make
that happen for them, also a second straight week. So
you're putting it all in your quarterback. You're putting him
in bad down in distance, You're putting him in a
bad situation on the scoreboard, and it's just it's a
recipe to get hit the way he did in last
night's game.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
And the numbers are not fooling anybody that's not.
Speaker 5 (40:12):
Well, it didn't really, that doesn't really tell you a
story of what actually happened in the game. No, it
tells you a perfectly accurate story in the backfield. Seven
sacks by six different players. The first sack was split
between Hunter and Anderson Junior. They now have three total sacks,
so they just need twenty seven more to be the
first duo in Texans history to reach thirty. They had
(40:35):
nine tackles for a loss. You just said they lived
in the backfield more evidence of that, and eleven quarterback hits.
I don't know where these numbers could be accurate, because
you were there, I was there. I've gone back and
watched it. It seems a little high, but he dropped back.
They said thirty seven drop backs, thirty six pressures. That's
almost by the real but it did kind of look
that way. There's nothing fake about the Texans getting after it,
(40:59):
and there was a huge, huge, huge reason why that
we haven't even mentioned yet. We'll bring that into the
top of the four o'clock hour. And to this point, well,
they also picked him off three times. One of them
was called back because of your ridiculous penalty on Henry
tall Atalla. That's one of the ones I think we
could have done without laundry on the field. Actually mentioned
that to Henry after we finished our media session, about
why did you grayze cole Comet's hit with your right hand.
Speaker 4 (41:22):
You weren't even turning him to dance. I didn't say
that second part, but he did.
Speaker 5 (41:26):
That should not probably have been called and it wiped
out the first of the Lasser interceptions, but the other
two picks huge. Last year's play on the football on
the one where Caleb Williams Orange Bears undershirt T shirt
got ripped to shreds.
Speaker 4 (41:42):
It looked like Stone's chewables out. I mean last night.
Speaker 5 (41:45):
That is an awesome play on the ball, going up
to get it and staying in bounds not only for
the completion of the interception, but to then run up
field and get a few yards. And then it's essentially
it's my best against your best. A throw to DJ Moore. Well,
the Texans best. Derek Stingley Junior won. They both went
up for the football and Stingley Junior went up and
(42:05):
got it. That's how they're going to keep winning games
because they seem okay, and maybe they should be with
leaving these guys out there. Granted they have not played
two accurate quarterbacks. They've played two very in accurate quarterbacks.
But the element not yet discussed will come back with
that here at the top when we get to the
four o'clock hour.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
The A Team on Sports Talk seven ninety two lifelong
Houston sports guys named Adam Talking Your Teams series Adam
Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
A Team.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
Our number two here on the A Team Sports Talk
seven ninety Space City Home Network on a Monday edition
of the program. After the Texans get the nineteen to
thirteen victory over the Chicago Bears last night on Sunday
Night Football Astro sweeping the the Angels in Anaheim over
the weekend in very different fashions. By the way, we
(43:08):
haven't talked at all about how Justin Verlander looked or
didn't look. That's going to be That's gonna be interesting,
That's all I gotta say about that.
Speaker 5 (43:17):
Yeah, I hope they don't think too much about how
he pitched in any one game. He has multiple starts remaining,
and he has pitched a lot better in every future
game that he did in this most recent one, and
certainly better. He did fair better than he did in
the ones before it, which you also have to take
a little stock in who they were up against.
Speaker 4 (43:36):
M very next day. You shut him out for six
innings with.
Speaker 5 (43:40):
Renel Blanco the day before, you're obviously in a very
good position to hold him down and win the game.
And yesterday might look like it was six or four
because it was, but it was no issue whatsoever with
one of these six starters you throw out there. And
he has not pitched brilliantly over the course of the season.
Last couple of starts for Blanco have been on an uptick,
but definitely has something to do with who you're facing,
(44:00):
and unless that's who you think the Astros are hosting
in a wildcard series, it doesn't much matter. I mean,
I'm glad he's able to use this start, and he
was able to get through five and is able to
keep them in a good position, only giving up two runs.
But you could see the same issues. The curveball seems
like the pitch he's most likely to get over and
(44:22):
if the opposition is sitting on it, they'll absolutely mash it.
Most of the other pitches are not quite being executed properly.
They're still not going where he needs them to go,
still not generating quite enough swing and miss. All these
things were a little bit better. You face the lineup
with maybe three or four major league hitters in it,
and that's just not going to be the case, probably
(44:42):
not against the teams they have left on their schedule,
except for the Angels again, and a likely scenario for
him to see them again and then maybe at the
end of the season in one of the games to
close out the season, and then they have to make
a decision on that. Hopefully they will need to. Hopefully
they'll close out this division. It obviously has not been
done yet. As much as we talk about their postseason rotation,
(45:02):
there's going to be one if they don't finish off
the Mariners.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
If Padres are good. By the way, Pattery's are very good.
Speaker 5 (45:08):
The Padres were able to split two games with them,
and their time at home was the Mariners. The Mariners
are very good. They get you Darvish tonight. Maybe that'll
play in their favor. He's had a good season, partial
because he's been away from the team for quite a bit,
but he's been exceptional on the road this season. Talking
about you and they're not on the road tonight. Is
Eras at two to five when he pitches elsewhere, is
(45:30):
Era's well over four when he pitches at his home park. Well,
that's where the game is tonight. Spencer again, he needs
another start like his last one. Maybe a little bit
better start to his start than the last one. But
pitch him into the seventh inning, only gave up two runs.
That's a game your pitcher has given you the opportunity
to win. And I think that's more often than not
what they've been getting from him, so I would expect
(45:50):
that to be the same. Played with Bregman out of
the lineup yesterday, have gotten a couple of games of
Kyle Tucker in the field. You've mixed up what you're
doing at first base fairly successfully. Singleton if it's a
day off for him, then you're seeing usually both catchers
in the lineup, with Yainer or Victor Carrattini catching for
maybe his pitcher you say Kakuchi, or playing first when
(46:12):
he's not someone who has a personal catcher. And just
one last thing on the Verlanders start. It was late
in the game at the end of the game when
Jake Myers actually got hurt at the end of the
game when he caught the ball right before he got
to the fence. He ended up staying in the game.
But twice justin Verlander nearly got the corner outfielders killed.
(46:33):
And the first catch of the first inning was Jake
Myers making a spectacular play. And then later he had
Morecio Dubon running all the way and then sliding into
the wall when he was playing left field and making
a catch. And then you had Ben Gammel going the
other way in right field, literally running into the wall.
He caught it pretty flush with his hip and knee,
was able to catch it, get to a knee and
(46:55):
fire it back into the infield, stayed for defense the
rest of the inning, then left the game. So in
the midst of me saying, well, he got through this,
and he got his five innings and he only gave
up two runs. He needed some incredible outfield defense just
to get there.
Speaker 4 (47:09):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
It was interesting because I was this was a very
event heavy weekend for me. So I was at a
concert Saturday night in the Woodlands and if you know
about the establishment that is right directly across the corner
from the entrance to the pavilion.
Speaker 4 (47:27):
You guys know the ones. But I'm not giving anybody
a free plug.
Speaker 6 (47:29):
I won't.
Speaker 4 (47:31):
We're watching because they've.
Speaker 3 (47:32):
Got a lot of outdoor, humongous projection screens out there.
And at the precise precise moment we are walking over
to the Woodlands Mall parking lot where my truck was.
That's when Tucker, I'm like, did he just hit a
home run? Because I can't hear anything. I can just
see the screen, and I'm like, they're focusing in on
the croup. Yep, that's gone because I'm watching the game
(47:52):
on my app. And that was good to see.
Speaker 6 (47:55):
You know.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
You feel like that can sometimes be a breakthrough for
a player that it's been out for such a long
time with some sort of physical ailment, a guy who's
you know, known for doing that sort of thing, especially
hitting home runs. I don't think it was any sort
of mental block. It was just a matter of timing
and when he was as soon as he got a
hold of one, it was gonna go. It's not like
he's you know, working his way back into physical shape
(48:17):
from that standpoint. But it was good to see, and yeah,
you'll take the sweep. You won't complain about it at all.
You wish you would have gotten a little bit more
help than you did from the Rangers who were playing,
I guess better than they had been. And then all
of a sudden, when they got together with the Mariners
for a four game series, all they could muster was
one whole walk off win.
Speaker 5 (48:36):
Yeah, the only game they won was when they threw
a guy who had never been a major leaguer before,
Kumar Rocker. Game on Thursday was the one game they
ended up winning. And again their competitive team, They didn't
compete much yesterday. George Kirby was phenomenal, pitching deep into
the game with just a one hitter.
Speaker 4 (48:53):
He doesn't always do that.
Speaker 5 (48:54):
Even though he's been pretty good, he's actually been less
successful here. They were able to get through, although unscreed
successfully the first start they're gonna miss with Luis Castillo.
Emerson Hancock made his tenth start of the year. You
had brought up a couple of years ago. The Astros
had that season where they basically had a healthy rotation.
They needed I think seven starters the entire season, and
(49:17):
that's what the Mariners have done this year. Afterwards, it's
very possible, but they were able to again slot him in.
It was the opening game of this weekend. But he's
probably gonna pitch the rest of the season. He's clearly
worse than the other four guys and this probably will
impact them going through.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
What is the Yankees next.
Speaker 5 (49:37):
They have an off day today, as I mentioned earlier,
also in Seattle, though, so this is where they usually
play their best baseball. Their last road trip of the
season takes them to just one state. There's only one
star in it. They played Texas for three and then
that is that Astros series for three Monday through Wednesday
or Friday through Wednesday of this coming weekend, and then
they go back home for Oakland. I'm not sure what
(49:59):
Oakland puts on the the field those days. They would
need to have either clinched the season series with the
Astros by beating them once or be within three games
when that weekend approaches. There are no tiebreaker games. It
has figured out mathematically. Once one sixty two are played,
the regular season is over, so tiebreakers will matter. The
Astros would have to sweep the Mariners to earn the tiebreaker.
(50:21):
In doing that, I think they would win the division
outright anyway. Yeah, that wipes six numbers of your magic number.
Their magic number is nine, so there's probably not now. Yeah,
there's probably not a tiebreaker at play if if that happens.
But you know, the Astros, it's simple, man, just take
care of your own business and you can scoreboard watch
but if you keep winning, all's well.
Speaker 4 (50:42):
Well that's why.
Speaker 3 (50:43):
And again this goes exactly against what you just got done, saying,
you know, if the Padres, if you lose two out
of three in San Diego, which could happen they're good.
Speaker 4 (50:52):
Like I said, they've got a better record.
Speaker 3 (50:53):
Than you do, and they've been giving you know, the
Dodgers among others fits all season long. That division race
not oh, I know, believe me, I'm rooting for that
whole situation, just not for the next three games.
Speaker 4 (51:05):
But you know you just mentioned it. They've got the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
I think they're going to avoid the guy who intentionally
walked Raphael Devers over the weekend, Yes, and then gave
up a smattering of That was the video ISO of
Garrett Cole holding up his forefingers and basically saying, you
(51:30):
are going to first.
Speaker 4 (51:31):
I don't even want to face you because I'm a huge.
Speaker 3 (51:34):
Coward who has lost all of my power since I
shaved my face and cut my hair like Samson in
the Bible.
Speaker 4 (51:41):
I love seeing that.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
I love seeing him getting shelld because you know what,
once you go to the Yankees, your imrtal enemy of
the Houston Astros.
Speaker 5 (51:48):
YEP Yankees and Red Sox Yankees won every single game
in that four game series except the one he pitched.
Speaker 4 (51:54):
I love it. He has not been the same since
he left here. I don't care what you say. Yeah,
you want to say.
Speaker 5 (51:58):
Says he's been the same, but he's been very, very good.
He was better here. I don't disagree with that. I
hope nobody does have. It's clear as day. Oh, it's
not like he hasn't been very good.
Speaker 3 (52:06):
I'll never forget the first time he faced the Astros
after signing with the Yankees that first season, he I
think he almost no hit them. It was like a
two hit, shutout, dominant performance. And I thought to myself,
that's fine. I would rather that happen in the regular
season than in the postseason. And then not very long
after that, he and no one else won a single
(52:29):
game against the Astros in their ALCS rematch.
Speaker 5 (52:32):
Well by putting those four fingers up to walk Devers.
It's the way he did it, though exactly. It set
everybody up for huh, let's take this, let's meme it up.
How many times have you lost to the Astros in
the postseason?
Speaker 2 (52:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (52:48):
Four fingers? Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (52:51):
I didn't mind seeing that happen to that guy, by
all accounts. And I know what happened his last night
here in Houston. You know, after they had lost Game
seven and everyone looked like they were in a morgue
afterward in the clubhouse.
Speaker 5 (53:02):
After he walked away from the interview, he didn't want
to give do you think he threw his hat down
and then Alex Bregman picked it up and he's got
it ready for this year.
Speaker 3 (53:09):
Not funny, too soon and I don't need it. By
the way, I saw.
Speaker 4 (53:13):
That he could be in Kokuchi's locker.
Speaker 3 (53:15):
Well the odds for where he find By the way,
if he left the Astros, he was at the top
of the list, not the Red Sox, where a lot
of people think he might go.
Speaker 4 (53:24):
I know what's at the top of the list. I
don't really agree with it. Who's at the top of
the list. Well, I'll give you a hint.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
They're in a race with the Astros for the division
right now.
Speaker 5 (53:34):
So Alex Bregman wants to get paid, totally get Alex
Bregman is in a position with Chapman off the market
and maybe having a good season finished to the season,
maybe having another good postseason to get paid. I can't
believe for a second he wants that money from Seattle.
Why because he doesn't want to be there.
Speaker 3 (53:52):
But if they're offering him the most, you think Carlos
Korea wants to play in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (53:57):
No, that was the third contract he signed, now fourth,
that's true.
Speaker 6 (54:02):
All right.
Speaker 3 (54:03):
We will have plenty more on the Texans last night
when we return.

Speaker 4 (55:07):

Speaker 5 (55:08):
We'll come up at four point thirty, which with the good,
bad and the Ugly Texans edition after they moved to
two and zero the NFL. All but the one game
it's done for Week two, Monday Night Football, Falcons at Eagles,
to see if these teams can, you know, try to
keep up get wins, to keep up with the nine
undefeated teams in the NFL. Two of them we'll meet
(55:29):
next week in Minnesota, the Texans and the Vikings. The
look around this division initially, as we kind of roll
through some of the other important things that took place
this weekend, I mentioned it in the opening segment of
the show. Everybody in the ANFC South plays close games.
Every single game an AFC South team has been involved
in has been a one score game. Titans lost their
second consecutive game by a twenty four to seventeen final score,
(55:53):
and for the second consecutive week, a play that would
only be made by one player, Will Levis, was made
by that one player in his own coach clearly said
as much during the game when he ran out onto
the field after the ridiculous turnover on an attempted lateral
as he was falling to the ground for no reason
deep in the opponent's territory. Uh, you could read it
clear as day and he knew it. Coach Callahan knew
(56:15):
it when he met with the media right after the
game that everybody had seen it on camera and he
owned every bit of it, and he ripped him publicly
while also supporting him, basically saying, we can't win without him,
and we know what we need to do, and he
knows he can't do that, but you know, in that moment,
those are things you can't do. Yeah, I was mad
and I wanted him to know that I was mad.
Speaker 6 (56:32):
You know who?
Speaker 4 (56:33):
That reminded me of Udoka, Yeah, a little bit.
Speaker 5 (56:36):
You just tell him how it is, and that's the
best way to do it, whether it's in a closed
door meeting or He wasn't trying to embarrass him by
saying this publicly. He was trying not to be fake,
right because he was real about it as to speak. Yes,
so be real about it now. It's not gonna ruin
his relationship with Will Levis. They're not gonna burn a
bridge of Oh my god, Will Levis has no confidence. Well,
he needs to earn it first before he can then
(56:56):
maybe lose it. And that's what's happening outside the division.
We'll get to that in a moment. The Indianapolis Colts
were a three point favorite because Malik Willis was starting
a game in Green Bay, the home opener for a
team he'd been with for less than a month, just
a couple of weeks because of the Jordan Love injury.
And at some point we'll probably recognize coach Lafleur as
one of the elite coaches in the NFL. Some people
(57:19):
looked at oh quarterback as Aaron Rodgers. Of course they
won all these games. He really doing an awesome job
with Jordan Love for a year now. I did an
awesome job in short preparation time with Malik Willis ended
up completing twelve of his fourteen passes, probably twelve more
than I give him credit for being able to do.
I was definitely dead wrong on what they would be
able to do because I wasn't yet convinced the Colts
(57:41):
are awful at stopping the run. The Texans two hundred
and thirteen yards is now the second most they've given
up this year because the Packers went for two point
fifty plus. They just kept giving the ball to Josh
Jacobs and then their backup, and then Willis would scramble
and then the backup to the backup would run for
more yards. And the Colts were still in the game
(58:02):
at the very very end and still had a hail
Mary attempt that ended up inside the five yard line,
which would have been the game tying touchdown and potentially
with a conversion, a winning touchdown. But another bad day
for Anthony Richardson. He's just not hitting his target quite
often enough. He did not scramble very often today, and
then this game they ended up losing. Wow, Jonathan Taylor
(58:23):
was very, very good. He did have big runs, he
was much more explosive. He did carry the offense for them,
just didn't get any help from them, and the Jaguars
lost to the Browns and Deshaun Watson who wasn't good
at home, and Lawrence was worse.
Speaker 6 (58:38):
Yet.
Speaker 3 (58:39):
Well, you know the trend, the graph, whatever you want
to call it, the Trevor Lawrence has even a smidgeen
of a chance at being the second best quarterback in
this division. And he still might be, by the way,
just because of how things are going around the I mean,
Anthony Richardson threw three picks yesterday, but I still am
not gonna say so.
Speaker 5 (58:59):
That's like saying, you got a two person race one
hundred meter dash. They're in the blocks and the start
gun goes off. One guy runs one hundred meters in
eleven point one seconds. It's not blazing, but it's fast,
and the other guy falls down and never gets up.
He's still second, like Trevor Lawrence is to c J. Stroud,
(59:20):
but a distant, unimportant nobody cares second.
Speaker 4 (59:23):
I see your analogy, and I'm gonna raise you one.
And I don't think he'll end up being second anyway,
but whatever.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
It's not a starter gun and it's a real one,
and the other guy just gets dropped because that's the
division right now.
Speaker 5 (59:36):
But he's okay. No, he gets attention and he's fine.
He's just like flesh wound. No, he had a vest. Really,
it's over now.
Speaker 3 (59:44):
I just CJ's just heading shoulders and didn't do anything
last night to change that.
Speaker 5 (59:50):
No, he certainly didn't, and those guys didn't either, And
that's why Jacksonville is owing too. They had an opportunity
to win quite clearly. They were in position to do
things all afternoon. He did not throw the to the
other team. He did not fumble the ball. Away often
enough for them to lose. They didn't have any turnovers
at home, and they can't put the ball in the
(01:00:11):
end zone, and they can't move the ball up and
down the field, and late in the game when they
needed to and got the ball back twice in a
one score game. The last of those two times, he
gets sacked in the end zone after he feels the
pressure late, scrambles out to his left and can't get
away from anybody and has immediately dropped, as you say,
in the end zone.
Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
You know that sounds like to me a bunch of
problems that Texans don't have to worry themselves with.
Speaker 4 (01:00:35):
It's not their concern. You keep winning. It's like the Astros.
You just keep.
Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
Doing you You win your games, do the best you can,
and the rest is going to take care of itself.
If it's easier than you thought before the season, that's
fine too. But don't underestimate having a two game lead
in the division in week two, because the schedule is
going to get much harder for the Texans. And you
need I was talking about this last night on the
drive home. You know, you need whatever cushion you can
(01:01:01):
get in the NFL doesn't matter how perceived your week,
your division is like stuff happens all the time, and
at some point before the end of the show, we're
gonna go over just how many you're dealing with it
on your fantasy team.
Speaker 4 (01:01:12):
Isaiah Pacheco, Like that's the wrong with him?
Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
That's a bit well nothing after six weeks from now, apparently,
like that is a huge loss. You know, I don't
know what Jefferson's gonna be like even if he.
Speaker 4 (01:01:22):
Does get the IR spot on my team him or
to guess who has it on mind? To guess who
has it on mine?
Speaker 5 (01:01:28):
Ed McCaffrey's kid, that's the one, Luke McCaffrey's brother.
Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
What an absolutely you know what. Gods, you know what
they can do. I can't say it on a television show.
So just yeah, just keep that cushion, keep building it,
go up there and beat Sam Donold this week.
Speaker 5 (01:01:43):
Like what I was saying at the beginning of the show,
the cushions great, and it is necessary, But how about
keeping pace with the Chiefs at two and right?
Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
Because being the four seed.
Speaker 5 (01:01:53):
The last of the division winners, and hosting one game
in the postseason then maybe another, that's fine, but why
not shoot even higher. You're going to see these teams,
well now one of them. I mean, you'll see the
Ravens later this year. They're ow and two. But at
some point that's gonna matter that you had this two
game cushion maybe on them if they come back Vegas.
By the way, they just haven't been They've not been
good so far this year. And there's a bit of
(01:02:14):
a trend for several years of putting teams away from
in front, which they were not able to do inside
the division. Next week, the Colts in search of win
number one, hosting the Bears. Next week, Titans in search
of win number one as Malik Willis brings his packers
to Nashvias back to Nashville, which is where he was
traded from. And then we have to wait until the
(01:02:35):
first of the two Monday night games for the Jaguars
to drop to oh and three.
Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
When they go to two and oh Buffalo, Yeah, it's
it's not looking good for that. I don't care.
Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
I like, you know what the Texans went through saying
this again last night, something that I.
Speaker 5 (01:02:50):
If they followed Owen three, that means that own three
team comes to Houston the following week.
Speaker 4 (01:02:53):
Well, the O and four after that.
Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
I was talking with you know someone last night at
the game about the exact same thing I said to you,
and we were looking at it. It was I can't
remember which pass it was that CJ had just completed,
and I was I look at this guy. I'm like,
we don't deserve this guy. Just kidding. We all absolutely
deserve this guy for what we've gone through.
Speaker 5 (01:03:16):
And the reason they have him is what I mentioned.
We'd get to in a minute. The Carolina Panthers, two
games in the season, nineteen games into his career, have
decided to for the giving our team the best chance
to win, was the comment from coach Canalis today in Carolina,
they are benching assault into the wounds and they starting
(01:03:36):
Andy Dalton and his words, it gives our team the
best opportunity to win. You bench a guy for one
of two reasons. There's seventy guys in that locker room.
If nobody believes in him, and I don't know how
they could after all this time, and you continue to
play him, you lose the whole team. And you have
consistent performances like they've put up twice. They got absolutely
embarrassed by the Saints, and then they got embarrassed by
(01:03:58):
the Chargers without the scoreboard going forty to three. They
were embarrassed by the Chargers yesterday, and he looked awful.
He's not shown any signs of improvement from his rookie season,
and so I think even though it might cost him,
there cost them his confidence they're doing the right thing.
Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
Well, your team is still more important than well, we
got to see if we have you. You don't have
to see.
Speaker 5 (01:04:19):
If you have something, you just have to figure out
how to fix it, and by not using it might
be the fix.
Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
Like you said, he hasn't done anything to show any improvement,
and he hasn't grown eleven inches going, which is how
much Andy Dalton towers over him. I just if Andy
Dalton wins this game, I don't even know who to
play next week?
Speaker 4 (01:04:37):
Do you know? You probably do?
Speaker 5 (01:04:38):
Of course I know who is it? Just who could
they be? Looking at how they are in the NFL.
Anyone just picked your best opponent for them.
Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
The Giants, that's not bad. The Commanders.
Speaker 5 (01:04:48):
The Giants with a kicker might have been able to
win this past weekend. Or if Malik Neighbors makes his
eleventh catch of the day. The Panthers are going to
gamble on getting a win this week by traveling to Vegas.
Speaker 3 (01:04:59):
Vegas is going do you, by the way, how long
has sug Night coach the Vegas Raiders?
Speaker 4 (01:05:03):
Have you noticed that? I mean, I don't think so. Really,
he's a crime sug Knight.
Speaker 3 (01:05:08):
Not the guy now who they have to wheel into
the courtroom and he's almost dead in court. Not that one.
I'm talking about the guy that people were afraid of
back in the nineties.
Speaker 4 (01:05:15):
Well, when Pierce was on the field, people are afraid
of him.
Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
I think it's the Raiders at one point. But I
love that analogy. Yeah, Bryce Young, very very happy. He's
not a Houston text. And we will get to the good,
the bad, and the ugly when we come back on
a Monday edition of The A Team.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
The A teen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:05:39):

Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
That's not good, and the ugly that's getting real ugly.
Speaker 6 (01:06:56):
With the A.
Speaker 5 (01:06:57):
Team, Time for the good, the bad, the ugliest, signature
segment time most seats in every four point thirty. We
will hit you with this throughout the week. Headstone Cold
locks for you this past Friday. It's always on Friday.
Try to keep you updated early in the week on
how things went on that front, and we will do
that a little.
Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
Bit later, maybe tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (01:07:15):
We did all right today we hit you with the Good, Bad,
and the Ugly day after the Texans took down the
Chicago Bears. So Texans edition of the Good, the Bad,
and the Ugly mentioned earlier, You've got the ugly, I've
got the good day and has the bad. The good
is seemingly pretty obvious. Their defense got after Caleb Williams
all sorts of things that you pretty rarely see for
any team, and certainly rarely see for this Texans team.
(01:07:38):
Seven sacks of Caleb Williams. This franchise has had one
game ever with more than seven sacks. One quarterback ever
has been sacked eight times. When playing the Houston Texans's
division game.
Speaker 4 (01:07:56):
Will Lettis was during the Bill O'Brien era.
Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
Okay, I'm trying to think it would have to have
been a Titans quarterback, right.
Speaker 5 (01:08:04):
Not a Titans quarterback one. It wasn't a cult, it
was a Jaguar, and someone on the Texans called him
trash and he was correct. Oh oh oh whoa there
very very top pick. Blaine Verry, Gabbert Close, Blake Bortles.
Blake Bortles. They had both of those guys, by the way,
(01:08:24):
yes they did.
Speaker 3 (01:08:25):
Is that the guy okay, wait, which one of them
did JJ take the fake selfie while standing over after
sacking him on the field.
Speaker 4 (01:08:31):
That's probably the one you named.
Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
Bortles was the one that got into the exchange with
a Judaevian Klowney, which ultimately resulted in Jags fans sending
toy trash cans to Clowney, which he then donated to charity.
Good for him because he had called him trash, and
then I believe things did not go well for the team.
He played for seven sacks in the game, six different
Texans had one that had never happened before in franchise history,
(01:08:54):
hadn't happened in the NFL since late last year, helped
them down in the run game second straight week the
Texans had done that. We mentioned the pressures well. According
to next Gen Stats, thirty seven pass attempts for Williams.
He was pressured on thirty six of those seven attempts,
seventeen pressures combined by William Anderson Junior and Daniel Hunter.
(01:09:16):
This is the type of dominance on the edge they need. Again,
I do think the player they were playing against, it's
only a second NFL game, their offensive line is clearly
not very good, and the Texans made sure to take
advantage of it. An hour in tease, I mentioned about
an hour ago there was one other element to close
out the good here. We had not talked about the
victory and why opening series of the game for the Bears,
(01:09:38):
they had a couple of third downs that they converted,
the first of which was a third and twelve, and
Caleb Williams stood back in the pocket, had time, wasn't harassed,
and completed it pass to DeAndre Carter and they got
the first down. Basically right after that, the Texans said
enough of that, We're getting after him. We're in a
good third down and distance, an obvious passing situation and
third or elsewhere were.
Speaker 4 (01:10:00):
We're gonna send guys.
Speaker 5 (01:10:00):
Forty two percent of the time, the Texans brought extra rushers.
I know it's only the twenty first game, including playoffs
of the Demico Ryans era. But that's the most in
any They theirs, as they say, and again bringing an
extra rusher, whether they're coming off of their assignment to
go get them, if it's creating an opportunity for stunts,
(01:10:21):
which you saw work against Answering richardson a couple of times,
they just simply got after it and we're just you know,
it happened even before the sixth quarter mark of the season.
They had not played six full quarters, and essentially all
five of their rotational players up front, the four starters
plus Derek Barnett, they all already had a quarterback sack
(01:10:42):
just again six quarters into the season that I thought
was a reasonable good and a six point win over
the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 4 (01:10:49):
What's your bad?
Speaker 9 (01:10:50):
The Texans were favored by six and a half. Then
Cairo Santos decided, Hey, I'm gonna be a hero.
Speaker 6 (01:10:56):
Here.
Speaker 9 (01:10:56):
Here's a fifty four yarder. It goes through the uprights.
Blue Traveler once told us the hook gets us all.
The hook got us, and just remember say it with me, guys.
Good teams win games. Great teams cover the Texans one
and one against the spread this season.
Speaker 5 (01:11:14):
Uh, aren't they zero and two?
Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
You're right they are.
Speaker 5 (01:11:20):
Geez, I've bet on them to cover both games. I
have lost ugly game and not no, no, I'm kidding. Well,
they lost because they didn't like it was a two
point march and they are They were favored on the
road in Indianapolis and didn't even you know, they just
didn't win by enough. They were favored against the Bears
and by a hook, didn't win by enough, and they
never should have let them that happen. You got the
(01:11:42):
opportunity after the turnover to go forty yards and score.
You got the opportunity inside the five yard line with
a carry by Akers and score, and you probably then
have enough to cover the spread. They're trying to cover
their wins and losses as a team. But yes, they've
they've got gotten a few people late. Like I said earlier,
though Dan just mentioned a Kiro Santos fifty plus yard
(01:12:03):
field goal.
Speaker 4 (01:12:04):
Everybody's doing it. The Cowboys lined up for a seventy
one yarder, but then they didn't take.
Speaker 5 (01:12:08):
Like Frank the tank, What do you mean, I don't
see anybody.
Speaker 4 (01:12:11):
Everybody's doing it.
Speaker 5 (01:12:13):
Everybody's making fifty yard field goals.
Speaker 4 (01:12:15):
They really are.
Speaker 9 (01:12:18):
What collins Worth said last night, he said, like it's
like everybody can hit a three hundred yard drive, Now
everybody can kick fifty plus.
Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
I saw Chris first and then Mike moments later walk
through the concourse on their way back to their car
and hotel after the game. As we're waiting outside the
Texans Life to read multiple texts.
Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
I was getting on my phone inside the stadium at
the game. Chris Collinsworth could be one of the candidates
for Ugly, but I haven't watched the broadcast yet, so
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:12:47):
Was he in need of a napkin to wipe his
mouth for the slobber over the other quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:12:52):
Or another one who wasn't even playing in the game.
Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
In one example, I mean, look at this throw byj
shroud A I the homes a.
Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
Ah, it's worth making fun of. It's worth the memes.
It's worth what Joey Molnaro has done because it's on point.
Speaker 3 (01:13:07):
He's just got an annoying voice. Then his kid has
the exact same voice, so it's weird, all right. So
that would be a candidate. There's some other candidates. But
I kind of mentioned this earlier and I really do,
like I cannot see I want CJ. Stroud's jersey. And
you can't say this anymore because it's turf last night,
so it wasn't gonna get a green stain on it.
Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
If get some pain on it.
Speaker 5 (01:13:30):
Yeah, you roll through the icy white end zones. His
icy white jersey might have been even more white.
Speaker 3 (01:13:35):
Hey, but props to the Texans for now not having
the worst turf in the division.
Speaker 4 (01:13:40):
That designation goes to the Colts last week obviously. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:13:43):
So three sacks by the Bears, Yeah, four quarterback hits.
Speaker 4 (01:13:47):
You'd like him to say, none of the little bit
yeah clean.
Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
I don't think any of those like from the angle
and the way he was hit, none of them looked dangerous.
Speaker 4 (01:13:57):
But that's not the point. You don't want them anywhere
near him.
Speaker 3 (01:14:00):
And I just you know, Larimi Tunzel had his usual
off sides, like you know, it's or false start, not
off sides.
Speaker 4 (01:14:08):
It's just one of those things where I.
Speaker 3 (01:14:10):
Want him to have the best possible I want the
twenty twenty four equivalent of the nineteen ninety five Dallas
Cowboys offensive line where they average three hundred fifty pounds.
Speaker 4 (01:14:20):
A piece, whatever that is, today. In today's game.
Speaker 5 (01:14:22):
Interestingly enough, as you set that up, I mentioned the
Texans had seven sacks.
Speaker 4 (01:14:26):
They have nine on the season.
Speaker 5 (01:14:28):
Only one team in the NFL has more, and it's
not gonna be from anyone tonight. They only have two
sacks eats. So heading into next week, the number two
team in sacks is the Texans.
Speaker 6 (01:14:38):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:14:38):
The number one team in sacks the Saints is their
opponent the Minnesota h Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
Without Daniel Hunter on that defense. Yes, that's gonna be
a very very interesting game, particularly since the guy that
you love to hate watch is no longer at quarterback.
There I get to do that tonight. Yeah, exactly, I
was gonna ask you about that. But yeah, Sam Darnold
because of injury, he is the starter, and we all
ah he's been give.
Speaker 5 (01:15:03):
One of the few quarterbacks with a better passer rating
through two weeks than c. J.
Speaker 4 (01:15:08):
Stroud four touchdowns.
Speaker 5 (01:15:09):
He does have two interceptions, but when you throw a
ninety seven yard touchdown, your yards per attempt goes up.
He's got four touchdowns on just fifty attempts. He's been
very good. But eleven sacks for that Vikings team. One
from x Texan John Grenard one from x Texan Blake
Cashman will both be on the field saying help thanks
for helping me make huge, huge dollars this offseason. More
(01:15:32):
on the eight.
Speaker 1 (01:15:33):
Team the eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:15:39):
Seven one three four two four forty forty. When you
call that number, you will get more Law Firm. And
what do they do. Well, the storms may have passed,
but the damage has been done and you are trying
to get your insurance company to, you know, do what
you pay them to do. You paid your premiums, you
filed the claim and now they are being jerks. I'm sorry,
(01:16:00):
there's no other way to say it. I'm not going
to sugarcoat it. If an insurance company is giving you
the business, then let more Law Firm give it right back.
Speaker 4 (01:16:09):
Seven one three four two four forty forty.
Speaker 3 (01:16:11):
You know, I know they're going to get the job
done because they've been doing it for over thirty years,
fighting insurance companies and getting you what you have coming
to you. And there's all the motivation in the world.
Because there's no recovery, then there's no fee. They don't
get paid unless you do More Law Firm seven one
three four two four forty forty or online at Houston
(01:16:32):
windstorm dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler. The A team now continues.
Speaker 5 (01:16:43):
On a Monday after Texans football here on the eighteen
five o'clock will be Football at five. That means a
visit from stan Norfleet, about fifteen minutes away. Of course,
co host of Next Up was up with me in
the press box yesterday enjoying analyzing this game as it
was played out. So we'll join us then as usually
on Mondays, to run through the proceedings. The week two
(01:17:03):
will be done when the Falcons and Eagles get together tonight.
Bills started the week with their victory over the Dolphins.
The Tuoist situation appears to be that he is going
to do what he has done in the past to
wait for him to be cleared from the concussion protocol
and given the ok to resume playing, and that's what
he intends to do. Dolphins will move forward with Skyler
(01:17:24):
Thompson as their quarterback. They've added Scoop Huntley to the
roster in an effort to give him a little bit
of support, but neither is a particularly good option. We'll
see if they can manage to stay up with well,
the Bills that are two and oh in their division.
Speaker 4 (01:17:37):
The others are one and oh.
Speaker 5 (01:17:38):
A surprising start to the division in the North, the
Bengals and the Ravens or the choices of us to
win the division here the three of us combination of
those two teams didn't win any games so far. Both
of them has started oh to two Browns have won
a game. They're one in one and of course Mike
Tomlin Steelers with Justin Fields doing just enough I don't
(01:18:03):
know the rest of that statement, just enough to win,
just enough to create a quarterback controversy, just enough.
Speaker 4 (01:18:10):
There's not a contra job Russell Wilson, I don't even know.
But they are two and zher you know what.
Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
The longer time goes on, and I know we're only
two weeks into the season. I don't know what Pittsburgh
was thinking bringing Russell Wilson in. I really don't like.
Speaker 4 (01:18:28):
You're not.
Speaker 3 (01:18:29):
If you think, like, what's the best version version of
Russell Wilson and what is he The.
Speaker 5 (01:18:34):
Best version of Russell Wilson is if he's at his
best when we get to the playoffs, which we already
can do without him because we just did it the
year before with disastrous quarterback play. Well, then maybe we
can get there. Because their options were one hundred and
sixty million to be in the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes. Yeah,
use assets to go up in the draft and draft
one of the five quarterbacks that went in the top fifteen,
(01:18:57):
or think about bo Nick, whatever it is that you
wanted to do. Those were their options this offseason to
make a real change or just take on Russell Wilson
for next to nothing. Because you're right, that's why they
also brought in Justin Fields. But they were that convinced
about Russell Wilson that they knew they needed to bring
somebody else just in case Justin Fields.
Speaker 3 (01:19:18):
I guarantee you was watching that game last night here
in Houston thinking, Man, I'm glad I'm not behind that
offensive line.
Speaker 6 (01:19:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:19:23):
I mean, the Bears are in a much better situation
overall than they ever gave him. But they didn't fix
We've talked about them mirroring the Texans. All Let's bring
in Rome of Doonsay, Let's bring in DeAndre Swift, Let's
bring in Keenan Allen. Let's give him some weapons. We
got Cole Comet we went and got DJ Moore in
that trade. So he's got weapons, yeah, but he can't
stand back there and throw to them. Because he was
pressured on thirty six of his thirty seven paths attempts.
(01:19:45):
That part of their offense clearly went unfixed. And that's
the biggest issue that they have in a lot of
these young quarterbacks, that's almost inevitably what they run into.
And even though I think we were both right to
be critical of the Texans offensive line throughout much of
last season, he still was really never up against that.
Games against the Ravens, maybe even both of them, the
(01:20:05):
game at the beginning of the year, and then later
in the year, maybe the game against the Jets in
those awful conditions, he really didn't have. He had a
Caleb Williams esque day of protection a couple of times,
but most of the other losses he just didn't play well,
or they didn't run the ball well, or they just
didn't get it done. It wasn't because he had almost
no chance. That's what's happened to some of these other
(01:20:26):
young quarterbacks. Definitely like Caleb in these two games, and
probably like Bryce for some of the games last year,
but now we're seeing that he just simply can't get
the ball where it needs to go. And again, these
are things that come up in our conversation. They just
aren't going to be that important. The only quarterbacks we
should be discussing are the ones that play on two
(01:20:47):
and zero teams, the ones that are in the Texans way,
Josh Allen, Pat Mahomes, maybe justin Herbert because the Chargers
are playing defense this year, and whomever else is on
that road to we're going to the super Bowl and who's.
Speaker 4 (01:21:00):
In our way.
Speaker 5 (01:21:01):
It's not the guys we keep bringing up in the
division or the guy that was in his draft when
they went one and two, that are always going to be.
Speaker 4 (01:21:07):
Linked because he's he's the end has begun.
Speaker 5 (01:21:09):
We didn't mention that the end for Bryce Young as
the franchise quarterback for the Carolina Panthers is underway.
Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
That's unbelievable, not even I mean a full season. And
I guess, but that's the thing.
Speaker 5 (01:21:22):
I didn't see someone put up a side by side
their graphics of their statistics.
Speaker 4 (01:21:26):
CJ and Bryce. Uh huh. But on nowhere on it
did it say wins. Well, why would it?
Speaker 6 (01:21:33):
Well?
Speaker 4 (01:21:33):
Bryce has won against CJ has none.
Speaker 5 (01:21:35):
Why would you point that out? A total fluke? Also
because it's quarterback wins and it's kind of silly.
Speaker 4 (01:21:40):
Well, it's like the Rangers winning a World Series.
Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
Nobody really cares about that.
Speaker 4 (01:21:46):
That's kind of the most important. Where are you watching now?
You see me up there in southern Oklahoma? Aren't you
fired up about the postseason Arlington? Sorry?
Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
You know it's funny though, I you could actually it's
a shorter list of the good young quarterbacks to talk about,
and didn't just decide what would take the longer activity
would be to decide which of the young quarterbacks are
absolutely the most atrocious? Like who's the pecking order?
Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
Here's why?
Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
What have we talked about since the start of the
show outside of the game last night and the two
quarterbacks there, Bryce young Will Levis. I mean, I could
go on and on with the young quarterbacks, and if
they're not terrible, then they're not playing like this week's opponent.
You know, Sam Darnold's getting a start because the guy
(01:22:32):
you wanted to start was hurt and not saying he
was back.
Speaker 4 (01:22:34):
He never got to start.
Speaker 3 (01:22:35):
So just the fortune, the absolute anti usual Texans thing
to have happened the Texans getting CJ.
Speaker 4 (01:22:44):
Streuss.
Speaker 5 (01:22:44):
Does the team ever go about I mean, they're big
in producing Htown Made, and they've done a nice job
and recreating the look of the team and the brand
and the h's and h's up everything. Do they produce
gear Pennance flags, something Htown loves, lovey anything like that love.
He goes for the touchdown, Mills to Akins love, he
(01:23:04):
goes for two meals for Akins. And now they have
the number two pick and here is c J.
Speaker 4 (01:23:09):
Stroud. But to be able to have those decisions? Do
we not deserve those?
Speaker 6 (01:23:15):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:23:15):
And here's why I'm gonna explain this very easily for everybody.
I'm gonna speak very slowly when I say.
Speaker 4 (01:23:19):
This, I'm gonna need it.
Speaker 3 (01:23:21):
He doesn't get that perceived love for making those decisions.
If the season preceding all of that, before those two
plays wasn't an absolute train wreck in large part because
of him, I'm not saying his roster was trash.
Speaker 4 (01:23:39):
Right, but he didn't help it. No, he didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:23:41):
And Davis Mills, Hey, we're asking you to win with
Davis Mills. Could you do that or don't whatever? We
won't say anything met. That's basically how it went right.
Speaker 5 (01:23:50):
Not winning was an asset like they won.
Speaker 3 (01:23:54):
Yeah, I'm gonna need the ability to get to the
second pick in the draft, and then the ability to
try trade up for the pick right after that.
Speaker 4 (01:24:02):
I'm gonna make a deal with Cleveland, perfect storm.
Speaker 5 (01:24:05):
Deshaun wants out and is desired by a couple of
franchises and a huge trade, and your team stinks draft position.
Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
I could probably win some games with c J. Stroud
at quarterback. Why does Demico get all the love? Well,
there's there's a difference.
Speaker 5 (01:24:19):
There's a big, big difference. Demiico not quite as horse
after this game as he was for the first game.
Maybe that's kind of the build up. You know, he
gets horse early in the season. As the year goes on,
he probably yells the same amount and it's fired up
just as much. Especially when you know both if I'm
not mistaken, both of the interceptions Kamari Lassiters and Derek
Stingley juniors right in front of the Texans bench. If
(01:24:39):
anytime you go and watch it, whether you're in the
stadium you go back and watch it, or you're watching
at the time on TV, he's right there. Yeah, he's
run right up on the play and he's fist pumping
right there on the sidelines and he's screaming like.
Speaker 4 (01:24:50):
A player would do.
Speaker 5 (01:24:51):
It's funny, as he always says, that's who I am,
That's how I'm going to be.
Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
I'm only saying this because of one game's experience sitting
where I was. He's absolutely more animated on defense, like
obviously that's his guy, his calls.
Speaker 5 (01:25:06):
Yeah, And when a mistake is made on offense, he
might he's heard the call and he might know the answer,
but he might need to say something to Bobby or
what about this or what about that? But on defense,
he knows, Yeah, when it play's made, he knows it was.
Speaker 3 (01:25:20):
It was cool to watch the Texans gut out a
dirty win like that, floppy Yeah, exactly. We will discuss
that and more with Stan Norfleet to start the five
o'clock hour, next.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
The ag on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adham Talking your Teams,
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the a team about.
Speaker 5 (01:26:52):
Five here on Sports Talk seven ninety wexdac here with
you as per usual in studio right there on your
simulcast on Space City Home Network as well and joined
at five o'clock on a Monday by Stan Norfleet.
Speaker 4 (01:27:02):
Here in each and every weekday morning as.
Speaker 5 (01:27:04):
The Sean Salisbury Show wraps up tend to noon on
next up of course with Chris Gordy, so a chance
for him to weigh in a little bit earlier and
now to weigh in with us and with you guys
here in the five o'clock hour. After the Texans moved
to two and oh, create a two game advantage in
the division, keep pace with everybody else. Best team in
the NFL apparently, as the Texans, nobody has a better
(01:27:25):
record than their two and oh, several others match them,
and they'll play one of those two and oh teams
next week. Stand was up in the press box with
me for the game last evening, spent time at the
A podium with Demiko Ryans and CJ.
Speaker 4 (01:27:38):
Stroud.
Speaker 5 (01:27:39):
After the game, I was in the locker room and
Demiko Rians has met with the media again today. One
question you had for coach which he referred to the
film yesterday and now confirmed today, and we talked about
it earlier, and it's a matter of is the league
actually going to take real steps if Joe Mixon is
out for more time than the time he missed last night.
(01:28:00):
In Dimiko's words, it's due to a hip drop tackle
which the Texans intend on making sure the league know, Hey,
look at the film we're sending back your way.
Speaker 4 (01:28:09):
This is what happened.
Speaker 5 (01:28:10):
You said you were going to legislate this on the
field a little differently, and they're not doing a thing.
Speaker 4 (01:28:15):
And one flag has been thrown on that play all year. Stan.
Speaker 5 (01:28:18):
It impacted the Texans dramatically in last night's game, and
presumably it would impact them dramatically against Minnesota or Jacksonville,
or Buffalo or the Patriots their next four opponents.
Speaker 6 (01:28:30):
Fair point by. You always go to be with you,
gentlemen on a Monday. Weix and Georgia company in the
press box last night, per usual, Acs.
Speaker 4 (01:28:36):
I always served great food.
Speaker 3 (01:28:38):
I was downstairs a fan hanging out. You know, this
guy behind me goes. I didn't know if you were
allowed to root. I got from here. I'll root for
whoever I want. I was screaming, you know, to you officials.
Speaker 6 (01:28:50):
You and some other Bears fans. But we'll get to
that in a little bit. Wex it was a hip
drop tackle. We all know that. You and I concluded
that on location real time. What I thought was interesting
was not what Demico had to say. Well, what CJ.
Had to say. CJ said after that, we were flat
(01:29:10):
and it's incumbent on me as the quarterback to make
sure we have the appropriate level of juice offensively to
continue to be competitive. He said, in paraphrasing, It took
a little win out ourselves. We weren't the same offense
that we were in the first half. Once that happened
to Joe, and given that Joe's been here for ten minutes,
(01:29:32):
I thought that was pretty interesting and I appreciate CJ
for owning up as he should, being the best player
on the team.
Speaker 5 (01:29:39):
And it happened on the fourth snap of the second half.
It happened on their opening drive. It came on a
second and thirteen. They caught the pass, got them nine yards,
set him up with a third and four, but he
was in the process of, you know, limping off the field,
heading into the medical tent, getting some treatment back in
the back. He did make his way back into the game.
It preceded one of the many brilliant passes by c J.
(01:30:01):
Stroud to pass over the middle of the field that
tank Dell was unable to get his hands on Corral.
He got his hands on it, but it was not
able to corral it CJ big picture, you kind of
opened the door for that. Mentally, I don't really see
the need for discussion because every single part of the
mental of being an NFL quarterback, got to be a leader,
got to read defenses, got to understand how to to
(01:30:23):
talk about things, how to get these guys.
Speaker 4 (01:30:25):
But he's got all that. That's that problems licked before.
Speaker 5 (01:30:27):
He walked five minutes through this club or this locker room,
and he continues to make sure it stays that way.
Speaker 4 (01:30:33):
But now to the football.
Speaker 5 (01:30:34):
They did not win in the trenches, so that made
life difficult for him. That they did not have the
run game, and they clearly were getting to him at
least as often as the Colts did, if not more so.
How do you think he performed under those conditions? Scored
four times in five possessions in the first half, scored
on only one possession in the second half. How'd you
think he played against them? And again, basically it's the
(01:30:55):
same thing. How'd you think he played after mixing left?
Speaker 6 (01:30:58):
I thought they only scored three points in the second half. Obviously,
the cam Acres fumbled down in the red area. That's
gonna set Dimiko off. Cam akers didn't touch the ball.
I don't know that he touched the field after that
possession turned the ball over. Demiko just can't stand that.
I thought I agreed with CJ. The offense was flat.
I do believe the offensive line got their hat handed
(01:31:19):
to them for now two weeks in a row. In
the past Protection game number ninety seven in Orange Billings,
he was a problem all night. They couldn't move him.
I couldn't understand why they wouldn't just go a duo
concept where you double that lineman and you double the
other lineman. We go man or man somewhere, so at
least we get him blocked and there's an alley to
(01:31:39):
run the football. Demiko have to talk about that after
he looks at the table on him.
Speaker 5 (01:31:43):
I don't want to interrupt you, except I think you're
making such a good point that I think you're gonna
have a good answer to. Is that a decision made
by the offensive personnel and or Demiko saying we are
having trouble here. But rather than open up the edges
to what CJ can't combat himself. He's gonna see this coming.
We're gonna trust him to react to it properly.
Speaker 6 (01:32:02):
I said it on our show. This is on Bobby Slow.
Bobby SLOWUK is the bizarre of the offense. We talk
so much about the sexy stuff that includes the trenches.
Now he isn't coaching those guys on a day to
day basis, but Bobby absolutely has the power to go, hey, listen,
we're gonna run this play, scratch all the rules in
our traditional offense, and we're gonna go change that. We're
(01:32:23):
gonna go duo up front, We're gonna go inside zone,
we're gonna go gap scheme. I want this protection on
this play, this entire series. CJ, don't option out of it.
Run it. He can absolutely do that, and they, for
whatever reason, he chose not to do that. The last
piece I say is offensively. I think it says something
to me. When Joe Mixon just got here and your
(01:32:45):
entire offense changes. M h, when Joe mixing in the game,
how do I know it changed? WEX and I talking
about it. They started moving the pocket. They couldn't block
up front at such a level that they were willing
to cut off half the field and give CJ. Few
were reads, and then we had some drops and some
guys different things I know that was in the first half,
so it's just when you add all of that up,
(01:33:07):
it almost And I use this analogy on the way out.
We all like to eat. Houston's one of the best
food cities in America. You have been in one of
these restaurants and they bring out a menu that looks
like Bobby Slog's play sheet, and you don't really know
like you're hungry, you're ready to eat. You got all
type of stuff that was satisfied the craving. I wonder
if sometime Bobby goes I got this five headed monster,
(01:33:29):
and even when one goes down, I had four, and
I've got this great quarterback that will throw across his
body when everybody says, don't do it. I wonder if
he had almost a little paralysis by analysis type of
thing and he didn't know what to call. Not a
great game by Bobby.
Speaker 3 (01:33:41):
You know, I look at what happened to CG last night,
and this happens all the time in the NFL, frankly,
and there's a myriad of reasons why a same offensive
line is so good at one type of protection and
not as good to bad at the other kind.
Speaker 4 (01:33:57):
Last year, it was completely the opposite.
Speaker 3 (01:33:59):
Now I'm not saying they were just awesome blocking up
front for the pass, but it was such a better
pass protection line versus the run. Now a lot of
that could have been singletary slash. Pearce wasn't as good
as Joe Mixon through one week and then he got
hurt last night and all that. But the reason I
bring this up is I am very curious to see
what Joe Mixon's status is as we get into Friday
(01:34:22):
afternoon and so forth, because this is not the defense
you want to see and not having a stud bell
whatever you want to call him in that backfield with
trying to protect a guy like CJ and trying to
you know, stay undefeated as well.
Speaker 6 (01:34:36):
The Vikings are leading the league in sacks right now,
they get after you, who was their de coordinator, Brian Flores?
Where does he come from? He's a Bill Belichick guy.
They were also running odd front. The other two teams
that the Texans have faced us far in the Coats
and the Bears are even front teams, traditional four to
three teams, So that brings a unique dynamic. Where's the
(01:34:58):
fifth rush or four right gonna come from? Before I
go there because I think that's a big piece about
mixing is I'm not as concerned about him returning because
he did get back in the game. I don't know
how many carries. Maybe the WEX notes has that for us.
I don't know how many exact carries he had in
the second half Joe Mixon. But the way he was
moving didn't strike me as now that thing is gonna
(01:35:20):
get swollen. It didn't strike me as he was done
for the game. It didn't strike me that he wouldn't
play the next week. Now it looked ugly. He's a vet,
he's been in the league eight or nine seasons. He's
gonna do what he can. He'll know how to get
himself ready, little toward all to help him feel better.
He's gonna go out there on the road against Minnesota.
That's just a part of it. Coming back lastly about CJ.
It hasn't looked like an MVP candidate. He came into
(01:35:45):
the season second according to MVP odds, but he's still
hasn't turned the ball over yay, and he's still today
eighth and QBR sixth and passer rating having not turned
the ball over.
Speaker 3 (01:35:57):
He's fine and oh, by the way, a guy that
was ahead of him in the m VP candidacy hasn't
exactly set the world on fire with his play through two.
Speaker 6 (01:36:03):
Weeks sixty nine percent completion percentage. CJ's fine. Now he
better stop being risky with the football. He should have
three interceptions on the year. But the football God has
been gracious for him. He's been saying a lot of prayers.
As we know, he's a spiritual man, and so no
turnovers as of yet.
Speaker 5 (01:36:19):
The other quarterback is a big deal in this game
in that the Texans got after him.
Speaker 4 (01:36:23):
You talked about it. I brought it up earlier on
the show.
Speaker 5 (01:36:25):
You obviously mentioned it to me before I mentioned it
to our listeners. The opening drive of the game and
the game plan that maybe Demiko was having in store
for Caleb Williams, whether it was scrapped or whether it
was a kind of a watch this because we're never
going to do this again. They said, additional rushers they
got after him. They made sure that they were going
to harass him. And I said that before the game
(01:36:46):
like this, you just have to if it takes an
extra ad, it takes an extra ide harass this young
quarterback who's played one whole NFL game. Make sure he
kind of plays on your terms. And they did that
real quickly. Here we got about a minute in this
segment just limited to the duo, the edge duo. Give
me a minute on Hunter and Anderson Junior playing together
(01:37:07):
the way they did it, I mean together working off
each other.
Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
You do this, I do that.
Speaker 6 (01:37:11):
Yeah, I mean, guys were very tired. Now. They flipped
sides a lot. Will Anderson lined up on the left
a little bit hunting, so they flip flopped a little
bit based on matchup sacond and a half and two
TFLs a piece. Hunter with three tackles, will Anderson with two.
Both had two hits on the quarterback. So yeah, they
were very very active. They also played the majority of
(01:37:32):
the snaps. Demko changed what he had done against Indianapolis,
where they were rotating like entire second lines together. Demko said, no, no, no,
we're not doing that. No way h Double Hockey six
were doing that. I want my best guys in there,
pass Russ situations. He also kudos to Demiko. Remember last
year in the cold excuse me nd Brown's playoff game
(01:37:54):
where he says, oh no, we don't follow Derrick Stingley
didn't follow anybody. He ain't got out there and he
followed them. Bravo Demico. He didn't allow his ego to
get away. Same thing here on.
Speaker 5 (01:38:03):
The dnsday at full health, No keenan Allen. It made
more sense to do it.
Speaker 4 (01:38:08):
He did.
Speaker 6 (01:38:10):
It was the right thing to do.
Speaker 1 (01:38:11):
Well.
Speaker 5 (01:38:11):
Kick back up on this on the other side, there's
much more to talk about it. That's why we appreciate
Stan give us two segments here on the A team
Texans are two and zero beat up the Bears last
night on Sunday Night Football.
Speaker 1 (01:38:23):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:38:27):

Speaker 2 (01:38:59):

Speaker 1 (01:39:02):
To Adam Clinton and Adam Wexwerth.
Speaker 2 (01:39:05):
On Sports Talk.
Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
Eight team Rolling Along Here on Sports TX seven ninety
and Space City home Network stand Northfleet in for his
weekly couple of segments, Heres, we take you up until
six o'clock.
Speaker 4 (01:39:22):
Yeah, last night, and you were.
Speaker 3 (01:39:24):
Just talking about this during the break that Rich Eisen,
for example, had mentioned this. CJ Stroud looks like an
MVP candidate, you know, like we talked about the odds
last segment.
Speaker 4 (01:39:34):
He hasn't even had a CJ game yet. He hasn't now.
Speaker 3 (01:39:38):
Joe Mixon was the primary reason for that last week
last night. It was a combination of him just having
a lot of pressure on him. But he has so
far in his very young career. I know the sample
size is small. He finds ways to win and.
Speaker 6 (01:39:52):
That's all that matters. I come on here every week
on my show and when you guys invite me on here.
CJ's next evolution is doing what all the other greats do.
You take advantage of the splash plays and the explosives
when they're there, but that's not your offense. Your offense
has to be mastering the bourn CJ Stroud ad living
off platform doing all the stuff third and fourth down,
(01:40:15):
and that's one of the reasons that Demico will be
a little bit disappointed when he goes to look at
the tape. I didn't love where the Texans were on
third and fourth down. I think on third down they
were like twenty eight percent. Now fourth down they been
doing fine, which is why I didn't understand why he
didn't go for it third and nine in the first
three quarter three this is you're right, he was three
for three and then elected to kick on that one.
(01:40:35):
But MVP thus far, Kimi Fairbaar and I agree with
demik on that CJ's gonna have one of those games
that he's out of his mind now. He hadn't done
it yet, and I don't think he should try and
play hero ball yet. It's not time for that. Don't
be desperate. Just run the offense. You got enough toys.
Just stay composed, run the offense. Let's hand the ball
off a lot and you'll be there. Last part to
(01:40:57):
CJ is the tight ends had an opportunity to get
more involved last night. The tight ends combined all three
of them, Stover, Jordan and Schultz had four catches, no touchdowns,
on five attempts on five targets. Thought that tight end
might be more part of this offense than it has been.
Speaker 5 (01:41:16):
I thought Tank Dell might be more a part of
this sea. He's getting his touches, but it's he only
caught one ball. He was only targeted four time. He
ran the ball three more times this week. Tank Dell
is your second leading rusher this season, behind only Joe Mixon,
and he there are yards there for him. These plays
aren't bad, these clues. He had the longest run of
(01:41:36):
the game. He had an eighteen yard run for the Texas.
That was their longest run on a day they only
ran for seventy six yards, taking away the kneel down.
I do think one of these next two games, whether
it's this weekend against Minnesota or next weekend back at
home against Jacksonville, probably see Tank Dell as a bigger
part of the offense because of whatever matchup it is
that they like against those two teams. I think, actually
it could be both weeks. But it brings us to
(01:41:59):
what the focus of CJ's passing game has been in
back to back weeks, and why not. The best guy
out there is Nico Collins. He may be the best
guy out there no matter what other players are on
the field for any other team in this league. If
you look at performance, if you look at when he's
making the catches, if you look at why they're looking
(01:42:20):
his way, he has been at least on par with
every other receiver in the NFL in twenty twenty four.
And it's because he plays like it. He plays like
he knows it. He talked to us after the game
like he knows it. He played against Tyreek Stevenson like
he knows it. He went out there immediately after his
own penalty. It got him back to a second twenty
(01:42:42):
four from the twenty eight. So what they do on
the next play, he went up against the same guy,
burned him, caught a twenty eight yard touchdown.
Speaker 6 (01:42:47):
P I hrugged them off, told him get in the
weight room like he's been listen. The longer this plays out,
at least early on. That's a wonderful contract that Nick
Cassario and Nico Collins were able to connect, because had
Nico played like this without a contract, he would have
had more leverage on the team, given the market for
his services would have been more robust. If he continues
(01:43:10):
to keep up some modicum of what he's done. Right now,
Nico Collins two hundred and fifty two yards and a
tud in two ball games. He's led this team and
receiving two one hundred yard games. I don't know who
has him in fantasy. I suggest you go to the
draft Kings Newpig six app and take a look at that.
But like, clearly he has performed as a legitimate number one.
(01:43:32):
I wanted to see him do it again. To be
a number one receive in this league, you gotta do
it when everybody knows it's coming. He's now doing that now.
I still believe the best wide receiver on this team
is still Steph Diggs, but Nico's making that conversation more interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:43:44):
Flipping to the other side of things, there's a lot
of candidates last night. Who was the you have to
you have to pick one that was above everyone else
that impressed Chans game ball, Well, there you go, oh
Stan's game ball rush. The secondary se clearly is.
Speaker 6 (01:44:04):
Kymie Fairbar and the head coach said as much in
the postgame. The defense defensively, yeah, two guys stand out.
Speaker 5 (01:44:12):
So can I go co You can cut the ball
in half and deflate it, no problem, It's been done before.
Speaker 6 (01:44:18):
We uh Henry Tote leads the Texans and tackles the
two games we played in twenty twenty four, playing alongside
as he's al Shia. Henry told Toe was all over
the place last night and it's not necessarily flashy. But
what Domiko was looking for the foundation, the soul of
(01:44:38):
the defense to toe and I questioned if he could
do it coming off of Christian Harris being on the
four game IR designated to return to Toe has been
a man that he has earned the trust of Domenico.
What is it? Thirteen combined tackles, had a sack, tackle
for loss, and a hit on the quarterback. Now, I
want to also add in Jayaln Petrie, and it's not
(01:44:58):
that he made plays on the ball. Jalen Petrie consistent.
I was bragging on him the Wigs. He consistently showed
up to set the edge in the run game. Part
of the reason they were able to get after the
Bears passing attack is because they completely obliterated what the
Bears wanted to do from the run game. I was
trying to wick to get to swift one point three
yards per carry that is now back to back games
(01:45:20):
that they held Jonathan Taylor to three yards to carry
last night, they hold DeAndre Swift back that many of
us wanted around here when we were going who's going
to be the back to replaced Devin Motor singretary game
balls go to Henry toe Toe and Jalen.
Speaker 5 (01:45:33):
Petrie talked to Will Anderson after the game and he
was asked who had the biggest hit of the game.
Speaker 4 (01:45:38):
He immediately followed, no question, Jalen Petrie.
Speaker 5 (01:45:40):
And I know he met the hit on Cole Comet,
which was initially flagged and then after discussion they took
the flag away correctly because it was not an offense.
But he had others and what you're talking about, I
asked him additionally about Petrie, He's playing a new position
this year for the Texans, much like the position he
played at Baylor. In my opinion, it has changed how
(01:46:01):
they call their defense, how they can execute their defense
because of what you mentioned, the trust they have in
him doing the right thing. He might not be the
guy making the tackle when he does his job out there.
I think their defense isn't I mean, certainly against the run.
We'll see against better quarterbacks better passers, how his new
dishposition changes how they can operate. He didn't seem to agree,
(01:46:23):
only because he said, this is the same person, the
same player, the same juice he brings to our defense.
It's acknowledge he's a smart and intelligent player. He didn't
see it as from where he plays that's changed things.
But I wonder as the season goes on, if this
is something without new personnel that makes their defense better.
Speaker 6 (01:46:41):
I presume the defense will evolve. Demiico ain't gonna show
his whole hand right now. I imagine there are some
new tricks and gimmicks, and.
Speaker 3 (01:46:48):
There's a player missing that's going to presumably make a
huge impact.
Speaker 5 (01:46:52):
Getting through these first two of six games without Deniko Autry.
You brought it up earlier. Jerry Hughes played twelfth place
thirteen plays. They're playing three d at they are gassed.
Speaker 6 (01:47:03):
You saw Derek Stingley Jr. We're talking about the secondary guys.
We want a Brad gonna stay good for him. By
the way, that is Teach Tape his trail technique on
DJ Ball on the interception, trail tech got his hands
on him. Trail technique high point the football. Take it away.
He played the route or ran the route with his eyes. Beautiful.
Good to see Derek Stingley get an interception. I want
(01:47:24):
the rest of the league and the rest of NFL
fans to understand what we all know. Stings a baller.
The other one is Kamar Lassiter. Not only will I
get one stand, I'll have one interception negated by the
toete penalty. I'll come back again and be more impressive.
Toe tap there on the sideline, get some return yardist
So I was good to see Lassiter. There he is.
There's that guy that was given the second cornerback spot.
(01:47:46):
He finally showed up. Good for him, so the secondar oh,
and then I got Butler. I understand the flag. Not
mad at him. It was a penalty. He'll be better,
But I'm not gonna ask a young Ballhawk safety to
be less aggressive. You take the good with the bad.
How about that the second round rookie and the third
round rookie DBS through T get two games. They both
(01:48:06):
have an interception like that.
Speaker 5 (01:48:08):
They look like they belong on this defense. Bullock made
the right read, made the right call, reacted to the
play too quickly, and just got there. We got away
from him. So that's that aspect of it. We haven't
really even talked about it. Probably enough got another about
a minute to go here. They're not going to win
many games when they have twelve penalties, especially those that
they had no and it was I think this was
a flag happy crew. But I can't look at this
(01:48:30):
tape and say, no, they didn't do it. That's not
their fault. It was their fault and.
Speaker 6 (01:48:33):
They got away with some As a shot, you're punching
the bear on their sideline. One common man, he probably did,
but you can't do that, like is he and he said,
probably did that, got away from You can't do that,
Kaitna boy, you can't do that. How about the repeat offenders?
Kenyan Green all sides? I think tonsil, I know tons
got a couple of them. Who is that on the
(01:48:54):
other side. I forget who on the other side had one?
Just too many guys, too many penpalies. Parseals used to say,
one hundred yards worth of penalties. You are literally taking
seven points off the board.
Speaker 4 (01:49:06):
That's science. It seems like there should be more on
your side.
Speaker 6 (01:49:10):
So that's a general rule of thumb. Twelve from one
to fifteen, and I'll end with this, Demiko, you either
coach it or you allow it. It's now two ball games,
and I don't know where they finished last year better.
Speaker 4 (01:49:22):
He said that cleaning it up is easier after a
win versus a loss. Cleaning it up easier after that
was supposed but stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:49:29):
You've heard that that phrase since he walked through the door.
Clean it up, Actually you win.
Speaker 4 (01:49:34):
They want a lot more games than they've lost.
Speaker 5 (01:49:36):

noon on Next Up with Chris Gordy, and we appreciate

Hey, astor easton it is good for listen to Rockets
Radio or your smart device. Just ask to lay Sports
Dot seven ninety on IHET Radio.
Speaker 4 (01:51:00):

Speaker 5 (01:51:04):
Another half hour with us still leave you a little
bit of time before Astros Baseball finds its way to
the airwaves here on Sports Talk seven nine and of

Home Network. Got you a nightcap after we get done
at six o'clock. They've got Htown High school sports coming
your way at six o'clock on Space City Home Network.
And we really appreciate Stan Norflee to join us here
(01:51:26):
for the last half hour and plan on doing that
each and every week following Texans games.
Speaker 4 (01:51:30):
They'll play this.
Speaker 5 (01:51:31):
Sunday at noon in Minnesota against Sam Darnold's undefeated outfit.
Injury news for both teams that will be worth paying
attention to in case you missed it. Both key performers
for each team leaving the game early. In the Texans
case following a hip drop tackle. Joe Mixon left on
the sidelines even though he did return and will monitor
(01:51:53):
his progress throughout the week. Seemed like pretty good news
coming from head coach Kevin O'Connell of the Vikings and
justin Jefferson himself that he felt like he'd be good
to go this week and be able to make it
through and be ready for Darnold.
Speaker 4 (01:52:04):
To continue connecting with him.
Speaker 5 (01:52:06):
They had a ninety seven yard touchdown connection as part
of their win over the San Francisco forty nine ers.
We were talking about the Vikings defense that has those
eleven sacks. They did give up one hundred yard rusher
and did give up over one hundred yards rushing, but
they have had a pretty good year defensively in each
of their two games, and probably another formidable, if not
(01:52:28):
overwhelming foe for the CJ stride light offense.
Speaker 3 (01:52:31):
Yeah, I'm a little nervous in the back of my
mind about their pass rush getting after CJ in this
offensive line.
Speaker 4 (01:52:38):
So I just mentioned the hip drop tackle.
Speaker 5 (01:52:40):
Demiko Ryans dressed it briefly last night before seeing the tape.
He addressed it in more detail this afternoon as we
continue with in case you missed the things we might
not have gotten to yet or need to revisit.
Speaker 9 (01:52:52):
Here, Dan, what do we have and that is the
piece of audio that when do you start things off
with Tamiko Ryans talking about this in a couple things afterwards.
Speaker 8 (01:53:01):
It's definitely in my mind considered the hip drop when
a defender unweights himself and he puts all of his
weight on the on the runner's legs. You see why
we want to get the hip drop tackle out of
the game right because it's causes a lot of injuries
when it happened. The hip drop tackle doesn't happen much,
but the percentage of injury when it does happen is
(01:53:22):
very high. And you saw that there with Joe and
his ankle and a defender landing on his ankle. So
a tough spot to be in.
Speaker 5 (01:53:30):
I think I'm an used part of that, Dan moving
forward into uh, basically eternity.
Speaker 4 (01:53:36):
He unweighted himself.
Speaker 3 (01:53:38):
How about the part where he was being diplomatic by
saying it doesn't happen much.
Speaker 4 (01:53:41):
No, it happens a lot. Well, I think it does.
Speaker 5 (01:53:44):
I think it's happened five times that are definitely sighted
by those who've watched the you know, sixteen games openings, definitely.
Speaker 4 (01:53:50):
Once per week in a Texans game this week, it
hurt them.
Speaker 3 (01:53:54):
Last week. It probably wasn't called what I can't remember
who the a Texan tackler. Yes, okay, it was a
defender for the Texans that wasn't called. I think it
might have been Daniel Hunter, but I don't remember.
Speaker 4 (01:54:07):
You are gonna say something additionally, Dan, I cut you off. No,
that they don't.
Speaker 9 (01:54:12):
Of course, you alluded to this earlier with no injury
report needing to be given out at this point, still
kind of waiting and seeing on mixing, not sure how
serious the injury is, but that that play and also
the Aziz Al Shaier dust up on the Bear's sideline
is also being sent to the league.
Speaker 4 (01:54:29):
Yeah I'm getting fined, Yeah I would.
Speaker 5 (01:54:31):
I'm not gonna say I'd be shocked, but I don't
envision a suspension even though it was a clear punch.
I think he'll be it was the type of punch
it was, and he punched a helmet again.
Speaker 4 (01:54:42):
With his hand. Yeah, I think there'll be a significant fine.
This helmet was often he punched him. I think he
gets suspended. I'm serious.
Speaker 5 (01:54:50):
Well, what do you think would have happened to Rashan? Well,
the receiver of the punch to the jaw unsuspected.
Speaker 4 (01:54:56):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (01:54:56):
That's why it would be a suspensive suspension because it
would be theoretically more damage done in this case, as
he was probably damaging himself more than anything else.
Speaker 5 (01:55:08):
The Texans were able to get in and out of
that scuffle with no issue in game, and it was
all a part of a very clean, but very brutal tackle.
When Caleb Williams was running towards the sidelines, he just
simply didn't get there in time as He's got there
first to no feet were out of bounds. It was
perfectly legal, not only timing of the hit but where
he hit him to avoid an infraction.
Speaker 3 (01:55:30):
Well and ill, I'm no mistake if that were CJ.
Stroud or any other quarterback, and it was the exact
same scenario. Their teammates would have come to their defense.
Speaker 5 (01:55:39):
Just like that.
Speaker 4 (01:55:40):
Yeah, you'd hate it, and I'm sure the Bears hated it,
but they know why it happened. It was legal. What
else do we have?
Speaker 9 (01:55:45):
All Right, so we all know how there is not
a lot of love lost here for Alex Cora. Well,
now he might have to answer to Major League Baseball.
So over the weekend there was a little bit of
a bean ball battle between the Red Sox and the Yankees.
Cora believed that Rafael Devers was hint was hit intentionally
in the game and seem to indicate on Sunday that
(01:56:07):
they attempted to hit Aaron Judge and retaliation they missed.
The league is quote reviewing the situation.
Speaker 3 (01:56:14):
Let's go to the resident. I hate this concept more
than anyone on the planet on the show.
Speaker 4 (01:56:20):
That would not be me.
Speaker 5 (01:56:22):
Go ahead, wex, No, he was pretty clear after the
coal starts and we mentioned the intentional walk and I
said he had hit him earlier. He thought it was intentional.
He was extremely clear in his comments after the game.
Alex Corey said, I thought it felt like the first
bat he hit him on purpose. I don't I know
why he thinks that this is kind of a Clemens
versus Piazza situation. I can't get this guy out. I
(01:56:44):
don't know what else to do, so I'm just gonna
hit him and send him to first I really don't
think that's what happened, even though the setup is similar.
And then if you get yourself into a situation where
you're talking about the retaliation where it doesn't go the
way you want, and as you brought me into this
conversation for a reason, it's why the good teams cannot
get into this.
Speaker 4 (01:57:05):
The bad teams can do it. Don't take the bait.
Speaker 5 (01:57:06):
They don't And and Boston now is really out of
I wouldn't say they're completely.
Speaker 4 (01:57:11):
Out of the wildcard race in that division.
Speaker 5 (01:57:13):
They are, well, they're out of the division race, but
they've got to climb over too many times. Yeah, they've
got to play it, and they're scheduled by being in
that division.
Speaker 6 (01:57:20):
Sure.
Speaker 5 (01:57:20):
Yeah, but here's the thing, Alex, I'll tell you why
Alex Cora thought there are a guy.
Speaker 4 (01:57:24):
Well, I'll just hit there guy.
Speaker 5 (01:57:25):
You like really dangerous situations because nobody the batters will
say it. It's dangerous. It's a dangerous situation to get
into that. It's not even just that guys are gonna
get hurt, it's that something much more serious than you're
out a week could happen.
Speaker 3 (01:57:42):
And again, I'm gonna go back to the reason I
think Alex Cora thought that is because he's Alex Cora.
Speaker 4 (01:57:49):
This guy likes to fight.
Speaker 3 (01:57:52):
Ask Jeff Blum, ask anybody who was here when he
was part of the Astros staff. He's got a certain
reputation and he's done nothing since leaving. As a matter
of fact, he's only enhanced what I thought of who
that guy is. So this is like, I don't know,
the least surprising thing I could have seen coming out
of baseball over the last twenty four hours.
Speaker 5 (01:58:13):
And the reason why Dan brings it up the investigation
MLB has taken on in this situation is because when
they went through all this in the next game on Saturday,
his description of what their attempt to even the score
was is, quote, it was closed around the sixth inning.
We had our chance, it didn't happen, and we had
(01:58:33):
our chance to what to intentionally hit one of their
batters because we think they intentionally hit one of ourselves.
And if you're adding the words that the MLB is
looking to add, which we all know are true, that's
what he says.
Speaker 4 (01:58:46):
Again, this goes back to the whole scandal thing.
Speaker 3 (01:58:48):
But never tell me or talk to me about the
Astros not getting punished enough, because this guy, despite being
suspended for one full year, immediately got his job back
and cheated his way to another World Series championship.
Speaker 4 (01:59:05):
And so he's done way more than anyone.
Speaker 3 (01:59:08):
Associated with the Astros with different forms of technology.
Speaker 4 (01:59:12):
But please tell me how Orange team is bad.
Speaker 5 (01:59:14):
From the beginning of twenty nineteen when the first Commissioner's
letter came out about sign stealing issues for the ass
beginning of twenty beginning of twenty twenty, following the twenty
nineteen season, and to today, there have been two formal
letters sent out by Major League Baseball punishing two teams he's.
Speaker 4 (01:59:30):
Been involved in both of them.
Speaker 3 (01:59:33):
Stupid Dodgers fans don't know your I just I can't
stand that they just don't say anything about Boston when
they employed two members of that team. And you know,
Alex Coy whatever I mean worked up. My blood pressure
is gonna get raised. We got one more segment to
go here on a Monday edition of The eight Team.
We'll try to get something in we haven't talked about.
Speaker 2 (01:59:54):
The Aeed on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 3 (01:59:57):
Ninety something else I have not had a chance to
talk to you about today. Is your testosterone level? Well,
most seems personal, doesn't it. Yeah, because I care about
you guys out there specifically, if your testosterone level isn't
where it needs to be, I can personally attest that.

sexual wellness. What you want to do is make sure
that level is where it needs to be in the

Speaker 2 (02:00:56):
To be a Houston.
Speaker 1 (02:00:57):
Sports fan isn't easy, but hey, imagine living in Los
Angeles or New York and not understanding the dignity and class.
Speaker 2 (02:01:07):
Now that's gotta be hard, really hard.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
Back to Adam Clinton had Adam Wexler on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (02:01:20):
Winding down a Monday edition of the eight Team Sports
Talk seven ninety. I guess, in light of everything that's
already happened through two weeks of the twenty twenty four campaign,
the Texans should probably thank their lucky stars, and by
that I mean all of the major injuries that have
already happened across the league. Now, I just kind of
(02:01:41):
gave you some some grief since you're starting running well
one of your two starting running.
Speaker 4 (02:01:46):
Back good though. Oh yeah, no, you did.
Speaker 5 (02:01:50):
Played against Alvin Kamara and absolutely destroyed.
Speaker 4 (02:01:54):
That's awesome. Not easy to do.
Speaker 3 (02:01:56):
Was he responsible for four touches? He had three rushing
touchdowns and then had another.
Speaker 4 (02:02:00):
Yes, yeah he was. What are all these injuries we're
gotta be so worried about? Well, you have the situation
in Kansas city.
Speaker 5 (02:02:11):
The checko is probably out four six seven. We're not
really sure a time loed, but he should be on
IR sometime this week with the leg Tua is.
Speaker 3 (02:02:20):
I don't know what to make of this situation because
depending on who you talk to, and tua is one
of the parties, I don't know if he's being encouraged
to not play, if he's refusing to even consider not playing.
My favorite part was where I saw I read somewhere
where he was going to see a concussion specialist, to
(02:02:40):
which I said, you are the concussion specialist in that
you specialize in getting concussed every season and it's going
to affect your quality of life afterward. Now, I'm not
here to tell anybody what to do. He's making, you know,
millions of dollars to take care of your family for generations,
all that kind of stuff that goes into it. I
just know that there are guys that are more susceptible
(02:03:02):
to this, and he appears to be.
Speaker 4 (02:03:03):
One of them. And it's not just a run of
the like remember CJ. Fedorowitz.
Speaker 3 (02:03:07):
I just bring him up because he was a Texan
and it felt like he was getting a concussion every
other week.
Speaker 4 (02:03:11):
You would see the hit and he'd be helped off
the field or what have you.
Speaker 3 (02:03:16):
It was never as extreme or as I'm gonna use
the word grotesque, because there's been at least two grotesque
sites of Tua on the ground writhing or his fingers
doing things that aren't normal, you know, just really like
visible stuff.
Speaker 5 (02:03:36):
Doubt well, I'm not wondering if he's having has had
a concussion, it's how severe was it.
Speaker 4 (02:03:41):
Well, it's just a.
Speaker 5 (02:03:42):
Matter if he had another one, and now he's had
another one and I was at another one. The indications
early on from what has been reported from Miami is
he's going to go through this as as he has
in the past. When I get the necessary help, when
I get out of the concussion protocol, when the doctor
clear me, it's time to play football. And it appears
(02:04:03):
that's what they are doing. I don't know that he's
even going on. Ir You don't have to be in
the concussion protocol for any specific period of time. It's
just a matter of when do you clear the protocol,
and when do you feel like that you're ready to go,
and when does the team feel like it. I probably
would do that, considering who it is I don't know
that I'd encourage him one way or the other, because
he's probably gonna make up his own mind once the
doctors have given him the information that he needs, but
(02:04:25):
they know that they're sunk without him. There is there's
probably there are not too many good teams. They're a
good team that have as poor a backup quarterback situation
as they do. They're not I mean, I said the
same thing about Malik Willis, and I could not have
been more wrong through one week. So maybe you run
a run heavy offense with Skyler Thompson and you make
(02:04:48):
it work. I just don't envision that as being well,
you certainly not utilizing your weapons. You're not utilizing Tyreek
Hill and Jalen Waddle quite in the same way that
Tua can. But yes, that is of all the injuries
that have taken place this year, that's the most significant
from a this from who it is, and well, he
and Jordan Love are quarterbacks of playoff caliber teams that
aren't out there. Love just is likely coming back in
(02:05:10):
the next couple of weeks. He also did not go
on ir.
Speaker 3 (02:05:12):
Teams that will be facing the Texans, And I bring
that up because I think Jordan Love will be back
by October twentieth. I don't think there's any question. But
even if Tua's back and he's playing on December fifteenth,
you mean to tell me that the guys that just
teed off on Caleb Williams last night, who's much bigger
and much more physical, and he's not even like I
don't think he's considered definitely like a physical guy. He's
(02:05:33):
just bigger, he's not slight. You think if Will Anderson
or daneil Hunter get a hold of Tua, the risk
for this happening isn't I mean, it's it's.
Speaker 5 (02:05:41):
Above I know what you're saying, and you're not even
saying they're going after this naturally, it's just the game.
But he played seventeen games last year, dropped back and
attempted five hundred and sixty passes.
Speaker 4 (02:05:50):
It's incredible he.
Speaker 5 (02:05:51):
Made it through a season. I think that's making him
think he can do it again, and he probably can't.
We're not concerned about how he is, as concerned about
it is over the next twenty weeks. We're concerned about
how he is at age thirty right and thirty five
and beyond, and that's harder to visualize when you're in
the moment like he still is.
Speaker 4 (02:06:10):
By the way, just on that particular topic.
Speaker 3 (02:06:14):
You just got done talking with stan Norfleet about this,
and you beat the Vikings this week and you're three
and zero going home to take on the Jacksonville Jags.
I don't know if I'm I do want to see it.
I don't know that if I'm a Jags fan, I
want to see Trevor Lawrence go up against this front,
(02:06:34):
which again still won't have Deniko Audrey. It's gonna get better,
but you said it yourself, he's playing worse than last
year through two weeks there, and I watch, I'll say
this and the Jags will get their first win against
the Texans and it'll be, you know, just the most
disgusting thing ever.
Speaker 4 (02:06:52):
But I don't think so. I think the Texans are
going to throw him around like a rag doll.
Speaker 5 (02:06:57):
Last CJ just played his tenth home game of his career,
including the playoff game. He lost the opening game. Their
first game last year at home was against Indianapolis. He's
undefeated at home since then, except for one game. Trevor
Lawrence and the Jacks officials weren't.
Speaker 3 (02:07:14):
By the way just those like you said it. Those
penalties were absolutely in most cases you know, could have
been called. But the pass interference call or I guess.
Speaker 9 (02:07:25):
It was, was it.
Speaker 4 (02:07:27):
One that's wiped out the interception? No, the one that
set them up to score their only touchdown of the night.
Are they Kaylin Bullock play? I think so.
Speaker 3 (02:07:36):
I particularly hated that one because I was watching Daniel
Hunter and Will Anderson, but particularly Daniel Hunter get not
just held headlocked all night and it was obvious there
was no players around them, like basically, if you look
in the direction of the quarterback, you're going to see this.
And they just were, like you said earlier, we're just
not gonna call it, but we will call that one
(02:07:57):
down the field that will set them up for they're
only offensive or is the only touchdown of the night.
Speaker 4 (02:08:02):
Yeah, I mean there's no way they could avoid it.
It's in space.
Speaker 5 (02:08:04):
They can avoid calling those penalties, the holdings. They could
call every play because it's in the trenches and nobody's
watching that. I mean, even when you're upstairs, if you're
not really focused on that, and I'm talking about someone
in the press box like myself, I'm really watching. Well,
where sting going with more. You know where the linebackers going.
Are they hitting the hole? Where's the I'm not really
seeing who's winning up front. I usually catch that second
(02:08:25):
time on a replay or when I go back and
watch it. How did the officials are watching every play?
That's their job. If they wanted, we say it all,
if they want to throw a flag on every play,
they probably could.
Speaker 3 (02:08:35):
Yeah, but these are egregious to the point where I'm
being very conservative when I say this. Caleb Williams probably
should have been sacked about twenty five more times last night.
Twenty five. I mean they were just I mean, he
lived in the backfield. You just talked about the pressures.
Out of how many pass.
Speaker 5 (02:08:51):
Attempts thirty seven pass attemps thirty six pressures according to
Next Gen stat.
Speaker 4 (02:08:54):
That's not good. That seems like a lot. That seems
like the Texans our offensive line isn't that bad after all.
Speaker 5 (02:09:00):
Yeah, he did some scrambling that helped avoid sacks. He
did some scrambling that helped them move down the field.
He was their leading rusher in the game. They're facing
back to back weeks open the season. They faced a
quarterback capable of doing that, but neither of them could throw.
Now they're facing somebody who, at least through two games,
has shown the ability to throw. He's capable of creating
more time, but Sam Darnold's not likely to do to
(02:09:23):
them what these two guys have done.
Speaker 4 (02:09:24):
Since June nineteenth.
Speaker 3 (02:09:26):
The Padres and Astros own the top two records in
Major League Baseball. They're gonna play each other tonight, Game
one of that series. Coverage will get underway before you
know it. Here it's a late game.
Speaker 4 (02:09:37):
Tucker and Bregman both in the lineup tonight and playing
the field.
Speaker 6 (02:09:41):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (02:09:41):
I absolutely love it. Best foot forward if you will.
Speaker 3 (02:09:44):
We'll discuss that more Texans and a whole lot more
tomorrow at three on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:09:51):
The eight on Sports Talk seven ninety
