Speaker 1 (00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Talking Your Teams series.
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
A What's going on Houston, Texas. It is a Tuesday
edition of the A Team Sports Talk seven ninety and
Space City Home Network, which if you're watching you can
see that Adam Wexler is over there and my name
is Adam Clinton's we take you up until six o'clock
tonight on a day where another day that we will

(00:35):
not be previewing Astros baseball. I'm still not used to this.
I was talking to somebody yesterday, Oh it was earlier today.
I was over at I was running an aeron let's
just put it that way, and guy that I know
came up to me and said, I'm not used to this.
I'm not used to there not being baseball right now.
Even in the years where the Astros didn't make the

(00:56):
World Series, they always made the ALCS and it you
know me, Oh yeah, there's playoff baseball going on, and
a lot of people were watching Monday Night football and
a lot of other people were watching the Major League
Baseball playoffs last night, and of course West was watching
all three because there was also a Rockets preseason game.
It was really good for the first half. I mean

(01:17):
really good for the first half, but it is only preseason,
and you figured once the Scrubs and also Rams got involved,
maybe there'd be a shot at blowing a nineteen point lead,
which is what happened. But and I'm with Ross, by
the way, why are they playing in Utah a preseason game?
Why are we doing this geographically? Stay in the state
or just to the right of it, the east of

(01:37):
it for you anyway, Why why just just like, let's
play close games. If you go off script, maybe go
to a university somewhere in the state.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
How about eliminating a preseason game, which they did last
year they played five.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
That would be good, four that would be good.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
I was like, wait, they're not playing this first twice
and they're gonna do that in the regular season.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Very very early in the regular season. The four matchups
against the Spurs will be there. But we'll get into
a little rocket stalk for sure, just because they have
now hit the floor, they'll do so again tomorrow night
right here on a Sports Talk seven to ninety an
hour earlier with the game against the Thunder, and you
also see that too right there on Space City Home Network.
The Texans, they found out something today that I thought

(02:19):
was rather obvious based on how they've played to start
the season. And it hasn't been officially stated unless it
was in the last few minutes, but the reports from
New England are the Texans will be the first team
that Drake May faces as an NFL starter. He's seen
a tiny bit of mop up duty, which was rather
interesting and when girod Meyo decided to put him out there,

(02:40):
because he went out there for a series and basically
got smashed over and over and over again, because that's
what was happening to Jacoby Brissett. Brissett has helped lead
the Patriots to all of sixty two points in their
first five games of the season. They cannot score, they
cannot move the ball. They've had some turnover problems, not
really on him. Andre Stevenson has had such a bad

(03:02):
case of fumbleitis. They said, well, you're not starting this week,
and I was proceeding last week's game, and then he
went out there and had one of his best games
of the season. That's what they'll be up against this week.
That's all that stands in the way of the Texans
being five and one through six weeks. Absolutely, they don't
want to count your chickens before they're hatch, don't want
to count on it being a win, don't want to
fall for the man their touchdown favorites on the road.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
How is it a trap game? How bad is this? Well,
it's not a trap game.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
What they have in front of them is It's not
like they have some huge game against Baltimore or some
huge division game against the team that's trying to take over.
They're going to be three games up in the division
quite possibly after next week's win if they get it,
and the game between the Colts and their fellow AFC
South mates goes in a positive direction for that to
take place. But they don't have a tremendous amount of

(03:47):
NFL film on May. I don't think it matters a
whole lot. I think they know who he is from
their draft evaluations, even though they were definitely not in
the market for Drake may very top of the draft,
nor were they at the very top of the draft.
But he's going to be more willing to and probably
more capable of throwing a ball down the field a
little bit their wide receiver corps is very similar to

(04:07):
the Bills, and that it's subpar. Jalen Polk's probably their
best receiver, and he's so new to his career. I
don't know that he's going to go out there and
have a huge day. They've kind of mixed in different
players there at that spot, obviously, have two different running
backs when you add Antonio Gibson, I mean Hunter Henry's
been one of the favorite targets at times. One game
really is you can call it whatever you want, but

(04:30):
of all the games they've played this year, this one
definitely stands out. You're much better than they are. The
teams they've kept themselves in the game against and they
have shockingly through their multiple losses, are teams that are
incapable offensively. Teams with bad quarterbacks or backup quarterbacks, are
teams that just couldn't figure it out. The Texans cannot possibly,

(04:51):
I don't think fall into that, certainly not after realizing
and they kept saying it. Sunday said it again with
Demiko again today with CJ. Stroud when he was on
with McAfee. They know what we say because we're all
thinking the same thing. Have they played their best football.
They don't need to hear it from us. They know it.

(05:13):
They're saying it themselves. If this is their best football,
then yeah, I'd be a little bit concerned about trying
to puff your chest out and say they're the team
that's going to knock off the Chiefs. The way they've
played does not suggest that their record does. But the
fact that I think everybody, I hope everybody agrees their
best football is in front of them.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
It certainly should be. Even with the injuries they're now facing,
it still has to be if they believe it or not.
And I really do believe this because of their schedule,
and I think I've seen enough of the NFL through
a quarterish of the year to say this, their best
football has to be in front of them still if
they want to make the postseason. I mean, after this week,

(05:51):
the uptick is gonna begin and you still haven't played
Kansas City, who. I don't know what to make of them.
I mean, yeah, they're Super Bowl contenders, yes, great. They're
the best team in the AFC, yeah yeah. And the
best team in the NFC is the Vikings, no question,
there is a question. You curious. I am not willing
to say that a team led by Sam Donald, who's

(06:13):
all of a sudden having the first good not great
year of his entire career, is the best team in
the NFC. That's fine, it's definitely debatable different, But the
only reason I think it's different between them and the
Chiefs is it's the records the same. But nobody looks
at these two teams the same way, not even with
what the Vikings have done this year. And the reason
they look at that way with the Chiefs is because

(06:34):
of their resume, not necessarily because of anything they've done
this year. They have dominated anybody this season except for.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Last night, and the Vikings have dominated two of their
three opponents.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
One of them was good the Texans.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yeah, I'm well, it's a quarterback driven league, so completely
fair to pull back when you have to talk positively
about Sam Donald. However, the whole rest of their team's
crushing it. Yeah, they have an off week this week,
which maybe times out very well because of Aaron Jones injury.
Even though I like ty Chandler. Defense continues to crush,
even though they literally Jordan Love get the Green Bay

(07:09):
Packers back into their game two weeks ago and they
didn't demolish a team that became the first team in
the NFL to fire their head coach. Beat the Jets
last week overseas, and that led Woody Johnson, the owner
and ambassador, to fire his coach after returning from a
non ambassador trip overseas.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Okay, there's so many things that are funny, but I
actually wanted to talk about that. It linked in the
second segment because of so many elements surrounding that, and
we will not, the least of which is the blatant
lie that the Jets put out there today. I think
you know what it is if you've been paying attention
to I don't know anything over the last several years
of modern NFL football and how these things are done.

(07:49):
But going back to the Texans, Yeah, it is interesting
though the more the Vikings win, the I guess less
severe or I don't know what the word would be,
but the less bad that loss looks for the Texans,
even though that's just not true because it was a
bad loss, like you weren't competitive. In other words, you

(08:10):
just weren't. You had your own self inflicted wounds in
that game, which they have in a lot of their games.
This year that they've managed to win all the other ones.
But it's it does at least, I guess, soften the
blow less in the sting the more the Vikings win,
because you're like, well you got beat by a pretty
good football team there, maybe the best in the NFC,

(08:31):
even though I'm not willing to say it yet. Okay,
then I'll call you on that. Who is that's the problem.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
That's why it is the Vikings. You don't have another
answer unless it's the Commanders.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Who's the best team in the AFC? Though, cold chief
Why because they're five and zero.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Because they always win, because they have the best quarterbacks?
How many more reasons do you need? The record should be.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Enough this season? Well, yeah, this season they have won
every game. But if we're going to criticize the way
the Texans have gotten to four and one, then you
can't not criticize the way the Chiefs have gotten to
five and oh just because they've won last year in
the year before.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Again, go ahead criticize them, now, tell me they're not
the best team in the AFC.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
I just don't think they're head and shoulders above everybody
else like they have. How you're adding new adjectives, But
that's part of it. There's nuance to every argument you're
going to make in sports. Do you think that do
you think that the Vikings are head and shoulders above
everybody else in the NFC more so than the Chiefs
are or are not head and shoulders above everybody else
in the AFC. So when you start talking about the
layers of it and who they've beaten and all that

(09:33):
stuff also comes into play. But I mean, you want
to go quality wins.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Well, they've beaten the Niners and the Texans for two
of their five wins. Talking about the Vikings, I think
that's pretty quality.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Are the Niners what the Niners have been? Though? Look
at their.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Record, Yes, they are not what they have been because
they've lost three times in five weeks. They're clearly also
not what they have been because the number one running
back in the NFL has played zero snaps.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
And they're in lies the rub me and you drafted
him first in fantasy. I'm so tired of not having
Christian McCaffrey, and I'm tired of Pat Mahomes not putting
up Pat Mahomes numbers because he keeps handing off on
the actual touchdown drive. But nobody wants to hear me.
Why about my fantasy football team.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
I mean, if you can get a three yard touchdown
run from Xavier Worthy and a dub, you gotta go
do it.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
And they did. Yeah, for good reason.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
They did get the win last night, closed out Week
five in the NFL, and amazingly, the team that absolutely
positively could not be stopped through two weeks can't do
anything right and their quarterbacks hurt. Now talking about the
New Orleans Saints and Derek Carr. The Saints all of
a sudden are a plus forty four in point differential,
second best in the NFC, and they're riding a three

(10:41):
game losing streak and they're two and three.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Do you think they're better than their record?

Speaker 5 (10:45):
No?

Speaker 3 (10:46):
I think their record is identical to how they've performed.
I thought they were fake when they dominated Carolina, and
I think they are quarterbacked by Derek Carr, and that
should be enough said not anymore. Maybe, yeah, we don't
know that that's true to play through this, sure, it
just didn't last night exactly.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
We will get into who the Texans will be playing
at quarterback though. Is this a good thing? Is this
a bad thing. Is it a little bit of both?
Is it a mixed bag? If you will, we'll we'll
get into that. And also the aforementioned termination of a
former Texans employee, by the way, Robert Salad no longer
the head coach of Aaron Rodgers New York checks the Aight.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
We now return to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexword on.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
I'm trying to think of the last time the Houston
Texans faced a quarterback like this in this scenario and
didn't have to necessarily be a rookie, although I mean,
I guess that's probably the most common when it comes
to this kind of scenario. So not Week two when
they faced Caleb Williams. Yeah, well that's probably the closest

(12:30):
thing to starting the season as the starting quarterback because
it was Week two and he was tough. I mean,
he took a beating that night. I don't know if
that's what's in store for Drake may on Sunday. I
think that the Texans defense and specifically the pass rush.
I mean, you can't. I can't think of a better
week to be going into a situation like this. I mean,

(12:51):
you just made Josh Allen look pedestrian at best on Sunday.
But I didn't feel like Josh Allen. I mean, I
know he had the concussion, that wasn't in the the
hits that he took.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
That only five of his incompletions came after the concussion,
five straight after the concusion.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
How many times was he sacked on Sunday? Once? Right,
I mean the they sacked, but again there's Habas seven times. Well,
there's a.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Difference between only recognizing sacks.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Right.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
They had one of their highest pressure games of the season,
especially the edges, and I haven't seen the final numbers,
and depending on who you look at, what they might
be just for Hunter and Anderson Junior specifically, who got
nearly all of their edge snaps. Weaver and Horton got
the others. They did a great job, you know. Dimiko
said it himself early this week now after the game.
He thought it was their best game, the two edge rushers.

(13:37):
He came out of the gates, Josh Allen, he was misfiring.
The Texans didn't make him overthrow three of the first
four guys he threw passes to. He just was off
off right and then he was moving out of the
pocket constantly. Kept thinking he was going to run more often,
but he didn't. He kept throwing it on the move.
He kept running to his right. Another thing that Demiko
said to their defenses left that he knew he would do,

(13:58):
and that's why Mario Edwards was in position to chase
him down. That's why Aziz al Shaier was in position
to chase him down twice, because they they were extremely
prepared for him. They probably can't be quite as prepared
for May, but they can be prepared for one of
the worst pass blocking offensive lines in the NFL. And
that's why I think it does actually line up for

(14:21):
Houston very very well. If they put a lot of
pressure on May, the odds are pretty good. As a
young rookie quarterback who's now barely played through the first
five weeks of his NFL career, he's going to try
to get rid of the ball. He's going to get
sacked and not realize how much she needs to secure it.
They haven't had a turnover in three consecutive games. I

(14:41):
had three keys to what would happen in the Texans
game on my walking in with WEX to the stadium
on Sunday. The one I was wrong on was they
were going to be the team that picks off Josh
Allen for the first time.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
Well, they should have twice by the same guy, by
the same guy in consecutive place.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
But I also predicted it would be Kaylen Bullocks. I'll
take the l on that. The other two things I said,
I said cam Akers is going to do something productive
for the Texans, and they did found the end zone
for the second time of this season. And I said
they needed to not have Josh Allen extend drives on
third down.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
He didn't.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
They were three or fourteen on third down. That's the
other thing that a rookie needs to be facing third
and eight, third and twelve, third and ten all afternoon long,
and I think the Texans defense can do that to
Drake Well.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
And again, all of that is to highlight why there's
probably two sides to this. It's probably a good thing
in for some of those reasons that they're facing or
they're the first team I guess to face Drake May.
But the obvious, I mean, what are they watching are
they Are they watching college film to see his tendencies,
like I know.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
They are, but they're really watching their offense and see
what they're running.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
He is.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
He did get into a game where you could probably
look at how the opponent that day got to him
because I mentioned he must I'll go back and look.
I bet you got hit four or five times on
an eight or nine snap sequence. Yeah, their offense, they
didn't start him, not because he was so unready, but
because the team was unready. They put Jacoby Brissette back

(16:05):
there because he can take it. He can take the hits. Again,
this is heartless. They're not concerned about his future. They're
concerned about their draft picks future. So they wanted to
protect him for as long as it made some sense.
At some point. Even though the locker room knows they're
gonna have a bad year and they're gonna lose, they've
been in all these games. They've had chances week after
week where they could be potentially not having a miserable

(16:27):
We're at the top of the draft season, which is
actually good for their future, but they can't do anything
on offense.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Yeah, I think, and you said it. With the edge
rushers on the Texans, they're not getting the press that
comes with the sacks. They're absolutely doing their job and
even though it's not showing up in that particular column
of the stat sheet, they're making a difference. They are
making life. Listen, if you don't think that they're going

(16:54):
to try and murder this rookie figuratively, ask Josh Allen
how his week went last week, and yeah, a lot
of that was just Josh Allen not being accurate to
start the game. But as the game progressed, and I
think that's the biggest point of all this. They get
better as the game goes on, and I think a
lot of defenses do just because that's the name of

(17:15):
the game. In a sixty minute contest, people are going
to wear down on each side, and I think that
depending on who's winning the time possession, time of possession battle,
that can dictate it as well. But those two getting
after a rookie quarterback, I hesitate to say they're licking

(17:36):
their chops because I think they want to respect the
game and they don't want to count their chickens like
you said. But I'm actually I tend to lean towards
this is going to be a very very feast heavy
situation this Sunday for the Texans. Defense got to make
sure you don't let them run the football.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
That is what they want to do, no matter who
their quarterback is, in order to put may in that
situation in order to get to those third down and
obvious passing situations. You can't let Stevenson and Gibson get going.
You can't allow their run game. And I'm still a
little surprised that the Bills didn't run the ball more
with Cook. They probably should have. Texans, it kind of
depends on how you want to look at their run defense.

(18:15):
They clearly slowed down Jonathan Taylor in Week one, they
completely bottled up DeAndre Swift in Week two.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
But in both of those weeks.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
The quarterback was running four yards that they would have
preferred they didn't, And the same thing happened last week
with Alan even though he only ran with it four times,
he had fifty four yards. Like I said, I think
they should have The Bills should have run the ball
even more. With Cook, I thought he was pretty successful.
Kind Of hard to look at the Minnesota game from
a run standpoint, because you ended up falling behind pretty

(18:43):
much from the jump. You're down fourteen to nothing at
the half, and it got worse in the immediate part
of the third quarter. Aaron Jones had one huge run,
but was still pretty successful aside from that, so he
definitely did not stop the run well that day. Playing
from behind. I can't imagine they're playing from behind in
this game. I don't see how they can fall behind
by much. But you're also going to see a team

(19:03):
that's at least trying. Like I can't. I don't have
the numbers to gauge, but I doubt Jacoby Brissett has
thrown the ball down the field is even as much
as five other quarterbacks this year. Everything's underneath everything slow developing.
He does not have a good arm. He is not
a good quarterback. He's not necessarily the ideal backup. He's
an ideal backup for them because he can help help

(19:25):
him learn what it's like to be an NFL quarterback,
and he's bigger and tougher than other backups they might
have had, because if they had chosen somebody else to
be their initial starter through five games, that person might
have been sidelined and they might have been forced to
put Drake May out there a lot sooner than they.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
Would have hoped. Well, in the other part of this
situation with Drake May that I'm thinking, this is a
very good thing. If he does get to a point
where he's throwing the ball, it doesn't matter what kind
of scenario it is. I like the way the Texans
corners are playing at this exact moment of the year.
A lot of that goes into you know, how healthy

(20:01):
are either one of them. You got Nico Collins with
a hamstring We saw I feel like it was every
season that Jonathan Joseph was here. Yeah, he's nursing a
hamstring injury. Well, that's not something you want your starting
cornerback on either side of the of the field to
have to be dealing with. But in that Vein. I
just I like the way that both sides are playing
right now, Lassiter as his rookie campaign continues, and Stingley

(20:25):
just continuing to become one of the best at his
position in the league, one of the best young players especially,
So I like that matchup as well. But they're gonna
have to get it done, you know, and you can't.
I just I don't think it's gonna happen. Man. I
don't want Drake May to be able to say, all right,
I was able to take advantage of the Houston Texans

(20:46):
defense for a variety of reasons. I don't think he will.
But if you're the Texans defense, that should be priorities
one through ten, like not letting that exact thing happen
this week.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Five games, twenty quarters of football, five different quarterbacks against
the Texans. Sam Darnold to advantage of the text and
the defense pretty much all afternoon, did not have too
much trouble, clearly played from in front, found Justin Jefferson
enough for touchdown passes.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
He took advantage of their defense.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Anthony Richardson took care took advantage of their defense on
a handful of snaps over the course of sixty minutes,
he just decided to chuck it up, throw it deep.
He made a beautiful throw on one of them. He
had an underneath throw that Dulan turned into a huge touchdown,
and then the second one to Pierce, and then in
the other games, Caleb Williams didn't really take advantage of
any aspect of their defense.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
I certainly didn't think.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
Trevor Lawrence definitely did not, and this past week Josh
Allen did not.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
I don't really.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
I mean, he's going to complete some passes, they're gonna
get some first downs, but I don't envision Drake May
doing anything of great significance to turn this game into
their favor. They go in as roughly a touchdown underdog
before this news. I don't know how much it changes
from a gambling standpoint, because they again, I think he

(21:58):
has no chance, but I think Jacoby Brissette had equally
no chance, just in a different way.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
I've watched it for five weeks.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
They can't move the football, they can't throw the football
to move it down the field. His numbers are Deshaun
Watson thinks Jacoby Brissett is having a bad year.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
How about that?

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Is that Okay, does I give you an indication to
the kind of season throwing the football the Patriots are
having this year?

Speaker 2 (22:20):
It does, but it kind of brings us to our
next topic, which we'll get to in this next segment.
Five weeks in, first of all five weeks in, for
any head coach to lose his job where the team
is an over, I think is a mild surprise. And
yet when I heard the news today, it didn't surprise
me at all. Robert Sala being whacked from the headman

(22:42):
position for the Jets, and why it happened and why
it actually happened two different things, by the way.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
We'll talk about that when we come back the A
on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
This is Joyce Pottage. Listen to the.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
Astros on your radio and on the free iheartradiot.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Sports Talk seven ninety is your home fil Astros Baseball.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Well, it's October eighth, a couple of days, I mean
technically a day after Week five is in the books
for the NFL, and we already have our first coaching casualty.
Now we know better than anyone in these parts that
it didn't even take that long for Bill O'Brien to
get canned, but he started zero to four. The New
York Jets firing Robert Sala earlier today is not surprising

(23:36):
when you consider that Day came out and said expectations
were the reason. But it's no less surprising than their
owner saying that Aaron Rodgers had nothing to do with it.
That's how you know he absolutely has something to do
with it.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
Aaron Rodgers' meeting with him last night not talking about
this is fine to say that if you want to
give that publicly. Aaron Rodgers football had plenty to do
with this last segment. Let's rip Jacoby Brissett by comparing
him to Deshaun Watson. Guess who's right there with them
in passer rating this year. Jacoby wessets twenty ninth, Deshaun

(24:15):
Watson's twenty eighth, Rookie Caleb Williams is twenty seventh, and
Aaron Rodgers is twenty sixth. Aaron Rodgers twenty twenty four
NFL quarterback. Not a good quarterback. I don't think he's
even played quite as poorly as that number I gave
you suggests. But he did throw three interceptions in our
last game, two of which came in the first quarter.

(24:35):
The last one came as they were desperate to try
to win the game, which they were still in miraculously
against a very good team overseas. But he's not played
good football. Their offense has not played good football. So
many other things to discuss in addition to this, because
they're all tied to it, it's not just all they
fired their head coach. Here's their new interim coach. Let's
see what they can do. Some situations are like that.

(24:57):
I mean, the Texans was much like the Jets because
we knew and how many other things were wrong. So
I don't know where to begin, but I'll start here.
Reports that not only was he fired today, he was
not allowed to speak with the players after his firing,
and unlike their previous head coach, he was escorted out
of the building by the Jets, which is pretty odd

(25:19):
for someone you entrusted with essentially your whole organization for
the last three plus seasons. Now he can't even walk
out the door without an escort. The Aaron Rodgers angle,
whether it's from on the field or off. A report
that Robert Sala went to work today with the thought
in his mind that maybe it was time for him

(25:39):
to fire somebody. Nathaniel Hackett, the OC again hand picked
by his quarterback who had no say in what happened
to Sala Again, how many more things make it look
like Aaron Rodgers has a pretty loud voice for the players.
He's asked the Jets to bring in, which he says
he didn't and then they did, but it wasn't because
he asked them to. If we're to believe him, they're

(26:00):
still trying to bring in players are still trying to
bring in. So yeah, I think there's a billion different
things here, and all of them still mask what the
obvious should be. And it usually starts in the same place.
It starts with Woody Johnson, who's hired as head coach
over the past decade plus. As they've missed the playoffs
in all of those seasons. And while they definitely weren't

(26:20):
good under Robert Salad, and I'm not gonna sit here
and say he did a good job with what he
was given, I think they had more talent than three
consecutive losing seasons under five hundred by at least three
games in all of those seasons, twenty wins in fifty
six games.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
That's awful.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
Now tell me who was throwing the football for his
team during that time. Aaron Rodgers threw the football in
five real games. Yes, he appeared in a sixth one
game last year and now five this year. I wanted
to make sure everybody got to see the list, so
I actually put it together and send it out to you.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Guys on shocking social media earlier today.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
And it's pretty awful, especially when you consider the guy
who's thrown the most passes during the Robert solid era
is terrible, terrible, terrible Zach Wilson.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
But it's a who's who. I can't believe.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
I was trying to win games with Mike White, Trevor
Simmey and Tim Boyle, Joe Flacco, Chris Treveler, Tyrod Taylor,
Zach Wilson.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
And Aaron Rodgers. What was your favorite Chris Streveler pass?

Speaker 3 (27:15):
It's just you weren't going to win with these guys
playing quarterback for you. They really thought they were gonna
win whin Joe Flacco was there. They thought we have
enough talent to win. They actually do have a had
this in last season's version of Joe Flacco, but they
didn't because their offensive line, which I mean, I think
a lot of people blame that on the Rogers injury,
but it's definitely a fact that their offensive line was awful.

(27:37):
They went out and tried to fix it for this year,
and they didn't. They did do a pretty decent job.
But for as good as their defense is, for as
good as their team could look on any given Sunday,
if the Texans are in town in its raining that
team which looked awfully good that day against a playoff
bound team. We didn't know it at the time. You
knew it if you were listening to us here on
the radio. But this team, they did need to change.

(28:01):
I don't think it's the wrong move, but I think
the organization is a total mess because they still have
too many of the wrong people. I'm not even sure
that Joe Douglas is the right guy their GM. They shouldn't.
They should not be keeping Nathaniel Hackett. Their offense is
no different this year from a success standpoint, with Rogers
and more talent and Braylan Allen and a better line

(28:23):
than it was last year with Zach Wilson.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Same oc. Yeah, and how about that Buddy's Aaron's friend? Right,
And here's the deal, Now that you've gotten Robert Solid
fired Aaron Rodgers because that's what happened here, the pressure
is absolutely now more so on you as you go
to take on the Bills, who are for first place,
who are exactly the first division. You think the Bills

(28:46):
aren't ready to look what happened the last time, Well
the Bills, actually I take that back. They had a
lopsided win and then a lopsided defeat, I believe is
the order of things.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
They had two lopsided wins after their win over Arizona
and then a lopsided life That's right.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
Okay, so, but they're smarting from what happened here in Houston,
and Josh Allen's going to want to put last last
week's start behind him as quickly as possible. No better
time than to take on the Jets. Then you go
to Pittsburgh. I'm sorry, I know that the Cowboys actually
probably suck, but I mean that team, even though it
lost late or I guess I should say early yesterday morning,

(29:24):
I would not want to be going into that territory
against that defense, with that head coach, with my quarterback
play at questionable at best. And then after they go
to New England comes that game against the Texans. I
think all of us at the start of the year
looked at that game on the calendar and thought, all right,

(29:44):
this is gonna be a tough test because Aaron Rodgers,
it's the Jets, it's New York, it's on the road,
all that stuff. I mean, it looks like a completely
different game right now. On October eighth, A lot of
things could change. Maybe this is what turns the Jets
season around. I don't know. I kind of doubt it,
but this has all the makings of the bad things
that people want to say about Aaron Rodgers being backed

(30:07):
up by what's going on right now.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
Yeah, I'm not putting I'm personally not putting all of
this on him, but I do think he's set things
up to need to play good football, So listening to
him and being guided by him makes sense. But he
hasn't been able to play good football. I think their
offense is partially because of who he is now and
partially because I think Nathaniel Hackett's creativity it's never existed.
They worked really well in Green Bay, but you also

(30:31):
had head coach quarterback issues there with both head coaches.
Mike McCarthy first and Lafleur second and now a third time.
And I assume their DC now interim coach will get
along just fine with Aaron for the final twelve games
of their season, presumably. But yeah, this is a from
a Texans standpoint, it matters in two ways. Did this

(30:52):
team recognize their season was actually going to go very
far south if they didn't make a move.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Will it help?

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Because as many teams you can get out of the way.
For the Texans to make that rise to the one, two, three,
four seed, whatever it's going to be as Division champs,
I'm all for it. And this probably is a team
that you might have expected something different from. You also
can do that because you play them. And then the obvious,
which we've yet to discuss. Robert Salah has plenty of
working relationships around the league. If somebody wants to pick
up the phone and see if they can pick his

(31:18):
brain or put him on some sort of analyst work
for them, and the Texans are one of those teams.
He worked with Demiko Ryans extremely closely in San Francisco
and has known Demiko for better than a decade of
his NFL life, both as a coach and a player,
and you play the Jets. As Ac said in a
couple of weeks, I guarantee you the phones getting picked up.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
I don't know what they're going to discuss. He's a consultant,
That's what they'll call him should they bring him in.
We will be back to wrap up the three o'clock
hour here on a Tuesday edition of the program.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
Next the A Seed on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (31:56):
All down the thunder, Well, now you got it. I'm glad.
Adam Wexford, all right, let it go.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Wecky the eighteen continues on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Hey, wex there we are. I got a question for you.
This is this is gonna be in bad taste, but
I don't care. Do you think that that latest suit
against Deshaun Watson got settled because Tony Buzby's so busy
with so many other complainants against Diddy. I didn't mean that,

(32:34):
but it is a fast turnaround. And the only reason
I bring it up is because I know you've probably
been made aware. You saw that dan Orlosky. Dan Orlovsky
came on and talked about just how many categories Deshaun
Watson is dead lasting in the NFL. I don't know
if you saw this worst quarterback rating, worst quarterback rating

(32:59):
in the NFL. Win clean. He's given up twenty six sacks,
which is eight more than the next team has scored
on twenty five percent of its drives. Talking about the
offense led by de Shawn that's the worst in the NFL,
averaging three point seven yards per drop back, and they
have seven touchdowns and thirty puts through five games. Thirty

(33:23):
punts excuse me, through five games. That's anemic to say
the least. But at some point we just got done
talking about the Jets. At some point, something's got to give.
I don't know if Kevin Stefanski's gonna get fired over this,
which don't laugh. They just guaranteed this idiot two hundred
and thirty million dollars. They didn't just do that. That's true.

(33:46):
So they're married to him, for better or for worse.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
Well, they're really married to him beyond the all the
things you said because of the impact of moving on
from him. They can move on from him. They just
can't literally move him. They can tell him to keep
coming to work. They just need to stop letting him
do any work because if they get rid of him,
they're going to be hit so hard by that cap
ramifications it would cripple them.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
He's crippling them by playing.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
So your alternative is to not send him anywhere and
not cut him, but also not let him ever play
again because he's terrible. And maybe ever's further than they're
willing to go, but at least currently he clearly is
part of the reason why they aren't winning. It's not,
you know, just like the Jets and Aaron Rodgers or
Brissette in the Patriots. It's not a completely on his

(34:32):
shoulders that they're awful, but his play has been awful.
You mentioned some of the reasons why I'd love the
search feature on the X platform, because unless you tell
it you want the latest, it doesn't do that, which
is awesome. So when you look up Deshaun Watson, you
mentioned a couple of the numbers, and I know one
of specific. Four point eight a yards per attempt is

(34:55):
by far the worst in the league, and I think
I saw the stat and that's why I was looking up.
I think it's the worst by any quarterback through the
first five games, with at least one hundred and seventy
attempts ever since it's been tracked ever. So we're talking
decades worth of play through five games, worst ever And
so I looked up that number and Watson. These posts

(35:18):
are back to back from one hour ago. Mike Clay NFL.
He does a lot of the analytics work, and now
I think works for ESPN. Browns have faced the easiest
fantasy schedule for quarterbacks so far this season, and yet
Deshaun Watson's four point eight yards per average is dead
last among current starting quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
The very next.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
Tweet says, and it's from CBS Sports, and again this
is not in year order. It's from twenty twenty, twenty
twenty NFL Leaders and Quarterback Rating, Deshaun Watson right behind
Pat Mahomes at won twelve point five.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Yeah, this is who he once was.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
I raved and raved and raved about that season about
I was beside myself statistically, and I told you it
is never going to happen again, that a quarterback is
gonna play this well statistically, help his offense score that
many points and turn in a disastrous football season.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
They went four and twelve.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
And I've been hanging on to that for a while
because I never thought it would happen again, and Joe
Burrow is actually doing that this year, oh, which is crazy,
but we'll get to that later. They are in a terrible,
terrible spot because not only should they not be playing
him when they tell him to sit, they're gonna be
telling Jameis Winston to play.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
And that's the obvious but not that far behind. In
that scenario, this will have been the second time in
his career in as many stops that he is a
massive distraction to the locker room while not even playing.
Because that was the case here in Houston. You can
talk about how pa is.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
He a distraction in their locker room as a reserve.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
Here's what I think. If you bench to Shaun Watson
in Cleveland, but you tell him to keep showing up,
which is actually different than the scenario here in Houston
where they told him to stay home.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
Well, they also didn't bench him, correct, but he benched
himself before they told them not to play him.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
But you don't think this guy, with all the bad
juju and everything else that comes with him, baggage whatever
you want to call it, there's no way they want
him around.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
Well, I think the way that it works is on him,
just in the fact that as long as he's a
good teammate and as long as he takes a demotion
for poor play no other reason, they want to, you know,
they need to get him a break. We're not making
this permanent. We need to see if we can get
things going with somebody else. Maybe a step back helps you.
If everyone tries to handle it in that way. Strictly
from a football standpoint, you still have another fifty two

(37:45):
players on the roster, another sixteen players on the practice squad.
It's like with every team that's playing well but their
quarterbacks awful. It's Bryce Young from a football standpoint, and
Dave Canalis did the right thing, and Bryce Young has
reacted extraly well to it. You can't tell the rest
of the locker room we're gonna keep going with this
guy when he's killing your team, correct, And that's what

(38:07):
the Browns.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
Everybody knows that. I just think that, you know, everybody
says the best revenge is living a good life. I'm
paraphrasing that catch phrase, whatever you want to call it.
But if you're a Texans fan, like say you're a
season ticket holder, and you you made it through this
last stretch before CJ. Stroud, the stretch in other words,
between Deshaun Watson and the dawning of this CJ. Stroud era,

(38:32):
and you held on. You're one of those that did
not cancel your season tickets. You could be perfectly content
knowing that you've got the next franchise quarterback and you
didn't even have to wait that long. In fact, the
only franchise that waited less was the Cults twice. But
that's you, right, right, let's see, we'll see it. Is
it up for debate? But like that would be fine, right,

(38:53):
You should be content because he's not your problem anymore.
But now you get to have CJ. Stroud and see
him ruin another franchise. The way he's doing it, that's
just I mean a lot of me thinks that it's
it's long suffering Texans fans. They're getting a little bit
of I don't know, icing on the cake. It doesn't

(39:15):
do anything other than you've already beaten his team straight
up in the postseason, even though he wasn't the quarterback
that day. But you know he's prevent to me, he's
preventing them from winning.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
Well, yeah, he's preventing the organization from winning with his
play quite a bit this year, and again not all
on his shoulders, but he's also preventing them from winning
because of what they chose to do in the number
of masks that they gave up and then the amount
of money that they're into for him with the ramifications
on the cap.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
It's the trade in sports history at this point.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
Which is good for the Steelers, Bengals, Ravens and the
other twelve teams at the AFC.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
Here's the argument when you want to talk about that,
this is just an aside. I think people still want
to argue the Herschel Walker trade, and the reason they
would have merit by saying that is because that directly
turned into core p piece of multiple Super Bowl champions.
So unless you know, the Texans didn't get c J.
Stroud because of a trade, they got him because they sucked.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
Which was partially due to the fact that he forced
you to trade him and wouldn't play for you.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
But he's not like like, the difference being Will Anderson
is a direct result of that transaction. But man, if
if you win a Super Bowl with c J. Stroud
here in Houston, it's gonna immediately vault that trade to
all time worse.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Right if basically you could say it's better than the
the deal with Herschel as long as Will Anderson Junior
outplays emittt Smith.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
How do you even do that? Be tough? How do
you determine that? An hour?

Speaker 3 (40:42):
In two more hours to go here? On the A Team,
the NFL runs large on this show. We'll start again
there next.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
The A Team on Sports Talk seven ninety. You know
what also runs large. The amount of stress when you're
having to deal with reselling tickets. Don't do that. Go
to the app store or the Google play Store and
type in quick assists that's q U I c K
A s y ST and let them make ticket resale

(41:10):
easy and hassle free, letting you focus on enjoying the game.
Simplify that process with quick assists, from listing your ticket
on every marketplace to dynamically pricing it based on market demand,
quick assist, it's your ticket everywhere.

Speaker 1 (41:27):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Talking Your Teams
series Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team A.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
T Our number two on a Tuesday edition of The
A Team Sports Talk seven to ninety. From time to
time I look up at the calendar and I'm like,
good grief, this year is flying by it. Sorry, October eighth,
we're already five weeks into the NFL season. The Texans.
I think if you told us you get you'd be
four and one going into this matchup against a rookie quarterback,

(42:02):
which isn't quite official, but it's official. I mean, Chefter
tweeted it, so it's official. Well, it's just it's a Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (42:09):
So when Mayo meets with the media again later this week,
he'll probably is.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
He going to do the things where he doesn't acknowledge.

Speaker 3 (42:16):
It though, Well, the thing is, and you know, Diamiko
even touched on this. He's a newer head coach. He
thinks Mayo maybe just like him. There's no advantage to it.
Maybe there's no disadvantage either, But why should he? I
he probably, yeah, probably he could and publicly, I mean everybody.
It's the same thing with you know, remember last year

(42:37):
Demiko Ryans would not announce publicly that c. J. Stroud
was going to be the Texan starter. Yeah, weeks and
weeks and weeks. It was silly. You attend practice, you know,
the starter. What's worse, Jacoby Brissett or Davis Mills. I mean,
it's different. I mean, actually, I think the Patriots would
be better off if Davis Mills were there rather than Jacoby.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
Well, well, they give up for him.

Speaker 3 (42:58):
They clearly don't want him. Yet no team does trade
deadline a little bit of a ways off, and no
team in dire straits to the point that they are
calling the Texans on Davis Mills. But yeah, whether it's
said publicly or not, the report I'm sure is accurate
from everybody who's reported it. The Texans will get Drake
May after a week's worth of finally getting work with
the Ones. I don't know how much work he was

(43:19):
getting with the Ones as the reserve. Normally it's zero
or close to zero. Being in that he's their future.
Maybe he was gifted some reps with the one, but
that also kind of hurts your team as they prepare
each week. So that'll be different this week, and he'll
get out there and he'll be able to be a
part of their game plan and try to utilize some
of the limited weapons that they have. Hopefully they're i mean,
from their standpoint, they're wanting going to want their defense

(43:42):
to continue to do what they've done. It is hard
to play really good defense when your offense is doing
so little, and yet they've for the most part, been
able to do that. It helps when you play the
teams that they've played, and this team isn't one of them.
And that's why I think it'll be very different for
New England this week. The quarterbacks they've seen are brock

(44:03):
Purty will excuse me, the quarterbacks they've seen. I don't
think it's not enough to gauge who they are defensively,
because just flat out I think they're a pretty good defense.
They handled Joe Burrow in Week one, the only team
that's really done that, and that's the only win that
they have. Gino Smith had a pretty good day. Aaron

(44:24):
Rodgers wasn't great, but the Patriots scored three points. Brock
Purty was fine, but the Patriots scored thirteen points. They
played the freaking Dolphins, who can't throw the football no
matter who they've put out there after Tua and the
Patriots scored ten points. I don't know how the Patriots

(44:44):
are going to score with Brissett. This decision had to
be made. You have to change things or you are
playing for the number one pick when you don't need
a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (44:54):
Yeah, well, and you're not going to determine whether or
not you still do or don't don't after one week,
but I just don't want not after twelve weeks.

Speaker 3 (45:04):
Well, you gotta get him out there, right, they're not
gonna you're gonna draft a quarterback in the top three
and back to back years.

Speaker 2 (45:11):
Well you knew, you knew you still needed a quarterback
after a full season of Davis Mills.

Speaker 3 (45:18):
But he wasn't the third overall pick, I know, I know,
or a first round pick or a second round pick.

Speaker 2 (45:24):
Well, you couldn't have made those two rounds. He was
the starter the following year. Yeah, don't remind me he's
still here. Dude, what a dark time? You got an
extens like, there's no reason to hate him. What did
he do?

Speaker 3 (45:35):
I have to They weren't trying to win and he
helped them do that. Right, But and then he threw
two passes into the end zone to Jordan Nakens against
the Colts, So they have c. J. Stroud and you
want to hate on him.

Speaker 2 (45:49):
Yeah, but that's why I can't give full credit to
Nick Cassario he was trying to draft Bryce. He was
trying to trade up after getting the number two pick
to take Bryce Young too draft number one.

Speaker 3 (46:01):
Could you maybe maybe maybe tell me it was after
twenty minutes of analysis, after the ten minute clock was
getting ready to expire, maybe he was gonna change his
mind and saying, yeah, I guess we got to take
CJ One.

Speaker 2 (46:12):
I'm glad I traded up, and I'm not listen I
have I've seen enough of his body of work. However,
brief once they started caring again, it has been I mean,
Nick Assario is not a bad GM. He's not. He's
made has he made some mistakes, of course, but he's
made some good picks too, Like Kamario Lassiter is looking
looking good so far. Look at the guys that are
on there. Instingly finally after the injury plagued first year,

(46:34):
is looking like it's a solid pick. Yeah. Moving on
from Lovey's defense helped as well. Well, Yeah, but you know,
Sauce Gardner and him, we're gonna be tied at the
hip for like you're you're not hearing about him because
they suck.

Speaker 3 (46:44):
Well, you're again. If Derrick Stingly Junior had played in
Demico's defense as a rookie, even injured. I don't think
we fallen behind Sauce from a perception standpoint.

Speaker 2 (46:55):
The way he did. Sauce was awesome as a rookie.
If you look at their whole body of work.

Speaker 3 (46:59):
Five five games into their third seasons, both guys have
made roughly the same. Again, I'm not counting play for play,
but they've been the same. Derek Stingley Junior made one
of the most important plays in last week's game on
a third down pass, got the PBu, they complete that pass,
they're moving down the field. He's exceptional. He allowed. He's

(47:19):
one of the reasons the Texans could do what they
did last week to Josh Allen. They did not double
the receivers the Stefan diglass Diggs lists receiver room that
the Bills have. They just said, look, Lassiter e Murray,
Jalen Peatree, and Stingley, they're gonna single cover everybody. And
they had the confidence in those players to do that.
They were good enough. The word that they like to

(47:41):
use is sticky. They were sticky enough. It's a good
word in football when you're talking about it. From a
cornerback standpoint. It's a terrible word in basketball if you're
Kevin McHale's offense, but being sticky in this situation, there's
a poll that was very, very good, and that's why
part of the reason why Josh Allen did what he did.
It's part of the reason why they were able to
do the things to him with their front because they

(48:03):
weren't blitzing guys, they weren't rushing additional players. They were
sending there four after him, and they were letting Azz
clean up anything that became messy, whether it was Alan
moving out of the pocket or literally running the football.
So huge credit to the caliber of players that they have. Petrie, Stingley,
and Lassiter are all Casario draft picks in their secondary

(48:24):
and I think some credit goes to whoever is to
the person that said, look, our defense is going to
be better if Jalen Petrie is at the line of
scrimmage playing slot, blitzing here and there, but playing in
the slot almost exclusively. He was off the field for
a couple plays in this last game after his personal
foul on the sliding Josh Allen. He's essentially played every

(48:46):
other snap all year at a position he did not
play for the Texans hardly at all for two seasons,
a position he played at Baylor. But a trio of
Jimmy Ward when he's not in the medical tent and
Kylen Bullock and Eric Murray at safety has worked just fine.

Speaker 2 (49:02):
I'm gonna give you a list of names. This is
going back to the Patriots side of things as it
pertains to this weekend's game. What do the following have
in common? Tom Brady, Matt Castle, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jacoby Brissette,
Bailey ZAPPI.

Speaker 3 (49:18):
Well, they're obviously all Patriots quarterbacks. What is it that
they've done. Is there something that they've accompliyve won their
first start?

Speaker 2 (49:24):
Yep? Okay, the only one on that list, it's the outlier,
Mac Johneson, so she lost.

Speaker 3 (49:28):
Is Jacoby Brissette's first start? If I can remember back
to a specific year, and I don't know the number,
twenty sixteen. So in twenty sixteen, that was when Tom
Brady's balls were less inflated and he got suspended, and
Jimmy Garoppolo was the starter before he was hurt and
Jacoby Brissett came in and then his first start came

(49:48):
in Week four against the Texans. Somehow, the Texans did
not beat the Patriots that day despite scoring zero points
twenty seven. Right, so if you score, you win. Well,
they need to score quite a bit. But he ran
the ball against them pretty well that day. He was
thought of as a nice project out of North Carolina State,
like an NFL player. Not necessarily he's going to be

(50:10):
our starter. But that's another player, like the quarterback or
the head coach for the Vikings, the offensive coordinator for
the Commanders, Major Applewhite, all these.

Speaker 2 (50:20):
Maybe that's a little early. Maybe I have got timing off.

Speaker 3 (50:22):
But the Patriots, with Casario in their front office, not
necessarily the shot caller. They were constantly drafting quarterbacks while
they had no intentions of ever playing them. Garoppolo obviously
is on that list because Tom Brady was there. Hardly
any other team has done that consistently with their draft picks.
I don't know if you saw this this past week

(50:44):
with the Vikings being the only game of the day
at eight thirty, the NFL network brought out the footage
of hard knocks when Kevin O'Connell was a Jet and
their GM who's now on television all the time, making
some hilarious things. He brought him into his office to
cut him. That was Kevin O'Connor. Believe that was the

(51:05):
last stop of his brief NFL career, but it all
started in New englandcast nicely. He's bounced back tremendously. He's
probably the lead dog for the Coach of the Year race.
I assume if he doesn't lose any games, he'll win it.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
At the over quarter pole as you would call it.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
But hopefully Drake May won't do what those guys did,
because now his first start is coming also against Houston
like it did for Jacoby.

Speaker 2 (51:26):
Five and one. This is that list, by the way
quarterbacks to make first career starts since two thousand. All
of those were also with Belichick though, and they were yeah,
but they weren't all rookies. Obviously. Third to do so
in his rookie season will be Drake May. But yeah,
the only one, like I said, to lose is mac Jones.
That was twenty twenty one. All over them fast, faster

(51:49):
than all of the other ones, right.

Speaker 3 (51:51):
Well, all of the other ones except for Trevor. There
five quarterbacks drafted in the top fifteen. Trevor Lawrence is
with his original team. The other four are not. Yeah,
and Justin Field's the only other one that is starting.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
Yes, the Texans. So after this week, they've got the
big game at Green Bay. I'm not saying this game
isn't big, but I mean, come on, Jordia la versus
shrinking past it. You're right, I am. They're averaging twelve
point four points per game and they're starting a rookie
quarterback the Texans. If they don't demolish them, even on
the road, I'll be disappointed. Yes, you're right. This should

(52:24):
be the first game. This should be the first game
that they win all season. That's not close.

Speaker 3 (52:28):
Are you even waiting for our stonehole locks? You're just
saying text you're first ever to cover. You're not evenna
run the over under out on people. You're gonna say
the Texans cover.

Speaker 2 (52:37):
You know what I am? I surprise you guys can do that.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
I can't wait for you want you want me to
seventy two hours from now, you want.

Speaker 2 (52:43):
Some might do that, and then again you will be
You'll be taking on the Colts again, just like that.
It seems like yesterday they were playing them. We will
continue here during the four o'clock hour on a Tuesday
edition of The eighteen.

Speaker 4 (52:58):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (53:03):

Speaker 1 (53:56):
Center back to Adam Clinton, Adam Wexler the eighty.

Speaker 2 (54:08):
I'm just gonna read aloud from a Twitter account. This
is it just just before nine o'clock this morning. What
were you doing? Well, I know what you were doing.
You were writing this because the account is at Adam J.
Wexler since at Adam Clanton brought up his pal Mookie
Betts as a postseason Dodger first twenty four playoff games

(54:30):
in which the Dodgers went seventeen and seven. Well, no,
he went seventeen sevent team with him and the Dodgers. Yeah,
with the Dodgers. I'm just trying to clarify three thirty
seven batting average and a nine to fourteen OPS. The
last good, very very good. You someoud say above average. Yeah,
the last fifteen in which the Dodgers went four and eleven,

(54:51):
one to eleven batting average, four h six ops. He's
old for his last twenty two six straight hitless games.
And then he writes hashtag the eighteen three to six
pm at Sports Talk seven to ninety happy faced emoji.

Speaker 3 (55:06):
Yeah, I just wanted to make people realize it's a lighthearted.
The addition to the commentary we had yesterday, it is
National League Day in the DS, both series, all four series.

Speaker 2 (55:16):
As a matter of fact, I'm not done. Okay. Somebody
quote tweeted it, ooh nice at Adam Clanton. He's bad
and he sucks. Also a dirty rotten cheater. What up
Dodgers fans. The responses to that were fantastic, but my
favorite was you'll have to wait for a response from
Dodgers fans as most are currently incarcerated and can only

(55:40):
respond when they get out for weekend furloughs. Thanks Lorenzo.

Speaker 3 (55:44):
So are we at a point now that your phone
call that you're allowed your one phone call?

Speaker 2 (55:51):
Your one phone? Is it now?

Speaker 3 (55:53):
Or you can reach out on social media as an alternative.

Speaker 2 (55:59):
I don't think they allow a phone call.

Speaker 3 (56:01):
Or you say, well, I'd rather just post something on
the X platform. I like to just post an IG
story if I could.

Speaker 2 (56:06):
You know, normally I would say what a d attorney,
Yeah mean, if that's allowable? What a dumb question. But
we are talking about Dodgers fans here, so it's probably
actually a thing.

Speaker 3 (56:16):
Some Dodger fans will make the trip to Petco for
Tonight's Game three a swing game, all of the game
threes as such, with an opportunity for well the winner
to have two games to one lead. All for the
ds went to a game apiece for first time ever,
first time ever, which lends itself to more drama. This
series has more than enough of it. They're the late
game obviously tonight in Sandy, Ago, and the Mets and

(56:39):
Phillies are just underway from New York. Walker Buehler gets
the ball for the Dodgers tonight houses wrist and Michael
King gets the ball for the Padres tonight. King already
threw part of a shutout to open up the postseason
for the Padres last series. I think they're going to
win today who the Padres and I think they're It

(57:00):
went on Wednesday, and I think the Dodger season will
be over.

Speaker 2 (57:04):
I need this to happen like I need water and oxygen.
I also need what happened last night in Yankee Stadium
to continue at Kaufman Stadium.

Speaker 3 (57:16):
I hope people were actually watching the beginning of the
Yankees Royals game last night because Carlos Rodon was on
I don't know what high on life at the very least,
his first inning was spectacular.

Speaker 2 (57:31):
He's done that before in a White Sox uniform.

Speaker 3 (57:34):
He was out of his mind, yelling and screaming and staring,
and it was working for him.

Speaker 2 (57:39):
That's why it made it so funny.

Speaker 3 (57:41):
Fourth inning until the third inning and until when it
wasn't working quite so well, and his outing was a
little shorter than he would have hoped, and the Royals
had four runs and the Yankees only had two. At
the end of the day, happened to a better scumbag,
and Yuli Guriel's team is now all tied a game
of apiece the other series, and for the Tigers this postseason,
that can be wrapped up the thus far rather simply,

(58:01):
they are fifty to fifty. If Tark Schooble is not pitching,
they're unhittable and untouchable, basically if he is.

Speaker 2 (58:08):
Imagine if they had kept Flaherty.

Speaker 3 (58:11):
Uh, well, Flaherty has already been used by the Dodgers
in this postseasony.

Speaker 2 (58:15):
But he's weren't in the wrong uniform now.

Speaker 3 (58:16):
He wasn't particularly sharp, but yeah, the Tigers got to win.

Speaker 2 (58:19):
Yesterday.

Speaker 3 (58:20):
He and the Guardians pitching staff were throwing zeros at
each other all the way into the ninth inning, and
then the guy who's probably gonna get all thirty second
place votes for Cy Young in the American League, Emmanuel Classe,
the former Ranger who was awesomely traded away for Corey
Klueber's one game. He was the best closer in baseball
this year and probably had the best season as a

(58:42):
closer in ten years, twenty years.

Speaker 2 (58:45):
I don't know how far back Diaz do. As a
member of the both Mariners and Mets. His first year, he.

Speaker 3 (58:51):
Had a ton of saves and was very very good.
Classe literally was almost unhittable batting average against number of
runs allowed. All these things are stuff we ever see.
And he gave up a three run homer. He gave
up three consecutive hits in the ninth inning. He had
to finish off the eighth inning. Stephen Kwan made a
spectacular play to close out the eighth inning defensively, and

(59:12):
then he went out there, got two quick outs in
the ninth single single homer from Carry Carpenter, and they
beat the Guardians three zip to get the series back
to Detroit where they can close out the Guardians if
they win the next two games.

Speaker 2 (59:26):
Kerry Carpenter super likable. When he hit that home run,
I like him, No, you don't. I think he's fine.
You don't like him.

Speaker 3 (59:34):
I mean he's married to a former Longhorn. She's a
social media influencer. She's fine, he's fine. Nice little baseball couple.
What's her name, Well, now it's Lauren Carpenter. It was
Lauren Burke.

Speaker 2 (59:44):
She's an influencer. You know that she.

Speaker 3 (59:46):
Actually works with Major League Baseball quite a bit. They
center down a minute made park a couple times during
her run as an influencer.

Speaker 2 (59:53):
Working with MLB stands for jobless, fake job exactly, except you're.

Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
Saying that it makes me think you're on your lawns.

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
I've got a wife who it's a money maker, put
up t shirts on Instagram and get paid for it.
When she's not grating cheese. Bad thing is got a
life of its own. Man, that was good cheese that night.
I remember.

Speaker 3 (01:00:18):
That means it's a it's way beyond real and and
it turns. I mean, you can become very famous, but
you can make a lot of money if you reach
the audience that a company, a corporation, a product, a
brand wants to reach.

Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
This is. This is for that reason, carries an okay guy.
Yeah whatever. This is as realistic and honest as I
think I've ever been on this show. Finally, no, I'm
always honest for the most part. I'm a little over
the top sometimes, but I really mean this when I
say this, I want everybody to listen, Like if you're
if you're in your car pull over, I'm listening. I
don't care who wins this thing this year, as long

(01:00:57):
as it's not the Yankees or Dodgers. I've never been like,
because you take the Astros out of it. I'm barely
paying attention. I know what the scores are. I've like,
but it's a check in. I have not turned on
a single game as a god's on a truth. But
I don't care who it is. I'll be happy if
it's my mother in law's Royals, just like i'll be

(01:01:17):
happy if it's A. J. Hinch's Tigers. I consider them
both dear, close personal friends of mine. Now I just
I don't care as long as and it's not even
about major League Baseball. It's about those two insufferable, just
crappy fan bases with somebody and again Dodger's worse at
this point, but they're always running neck and neck. I

(01:01:38):
feel like, if you go to Yankee Stadium and you're
an Astros fan, you might get something thrown at the
back of your head as you stand at a urinal.
You might get your head stomped in. If you're hypothetical
Dodger Stadium, well yeah, I just like, but they're just
so it's.

Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
A basement and this is Padres Dodgers currently, and we
already saw what happened at Dodger Stadium. I don't think
it's gonna be worse, but it's just further into the
series now that they go to santagu If they end
a back in Dodger Stadium for a fifth game of
this series.

Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
And the Padres are leading, well there's gonna be a murder.
Well they can't be leading if it gets to a
fifth game. Well, I'm saying leading a game, leading that game.
Oh I got you, I got you. That's what I'm saying.
But no, you're right.

Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
And then there's the on field stuff too, with what's
going on with Machado and Dave Roberts and all that
nonsense and Flaherty.

Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
If you didn't have a chance. Can we talk about that?
Go ahead. I just saw the best caption ever for
that video. Here is the video where Dave Roberts is
almost brutally murdered by a baseball. And the reason that's
so funny, and what reason Wex is laughing, is because
it might might be characterized as a light toss into
the dugout, But of course it's the Dodgers, and it's

(01:02:43):
Dave Roberts, who somehow has miraculously not been fired this
whole time. But the Padres have something that I think
every fan base in America that is a contending or
even a good team wants. They have a re home
field advantage without acting like convicted felons. And that's something

(01:03:06):
the Dodgers can't say, Yankees can't say. Philadelphia definitely can't say.
I mean, Philadelphia has part of it. They have a
home field advanced.

Speaker 6 (01:03:14):
Philadelphia has actual courtrooms in their stadiums so that they can,
you know, expediate the process of putting people behind bars
that act unruly at their sporting events.

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
That's a thing. I think it's more the link, though
I don't know if they do that at the at
the Philly Stadium whatever it's called bank. Yeah, whatever, the.

Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
Link the bank, great setup where all the stadiums are.

Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
And I think I lied, I would care if they
won something. I don't want them.

Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
They got three teams that cannot win or else you're
very unhappy. The other five are good.

Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
You're okay.

Speaker 3 (01:03:42):
If we see, you know, philm Aiton and Ryan Stanek
try to close out a serious against Yuli, Well.

Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
I like that because that means that a New York
team that wasn't the Yankees won, which is like double
that'd probably be pretty good double salt in the wombs.

Speaker 7 (01:03:56):
Like that.

Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
They actually did close out the Mets win in this series.
Mayton to stamic to the end. Imagine if we heard
I mean, you have to say it right, we got cheaper.
We don't have to. I'm saying before. I think people
like those guys, especially when one of them isn't breaking
his hand self inflicted. Yeah, you got JN Detroit, you
got Juli and k C and yet we don't say,

(01:04:18):
and you got Garrett New York who's in Cleveland, Uh
is what's his face still there? Don't think Miles made
their DS roster.

Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
But thanks for Jan Diaz and film Aton's who's now
in another team trying to get it done. Yeah, I don't.
I don't care as long as it's not those two.
I really just I'll it'll be a blip on the
radar for me. I'm already you see the odds, the
odds for one Alex Bregman to come back to the
Astros as the leader in the clubhouse.

Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
It sounds like after say what, our signature segment will
have to dive into that.

Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
Here on the A.

Speaker 1 (01:04:53):

This is adamout Adams Weekly, charged through mind bockling moments
that make you go, okay, what what?

Speaker 4 (01:05:22):
Say what? Tideward, dear, what are you talking about?

Speaker 8 (01:05:27):
Man?

Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
On a Tuesday?

Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
Pay what odin? I'm dare now say what?

Speaker 8 (01:05:35):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Even though it's not all from the same sport, I
feel like once football season arrives, there's an ever ending
supply of say what. But I've got three different options
for you. You can direct this segment signature segment time. It
is time for say what you want? Audio regarding the NBA,
college football, or the NFL. I will go with we'll

(01:05:56):
get them all in just what first, Let's start with
the NBA.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
The NBA.

Speaker 3 (01:05:59):
The Rockets are now by choice tied to the Phoenix
Suns future. So last year there were some issues clearly
with their basketball. They ended up winning forty nine games.
Number one team in the West won fifty seven games.
Bradley Beal missed some time. Kevin Durant actually barely missed
any time. He played in seventy five games. D book

(01:06:20):
sixty eight games, so a little bit of time missed
by him, and obviously their postseason was short. Bradley Beal,
part of a podcast the last couple of days with
Title League, was talking about their season and I heard
what he had to say, So I thought I was
thinking to myself, say.

Speaker 9 (01:06:40):
What judges weren't healthy? Yeah, healthy, they couldn't stay healthy.
I missed thirty games and we won forty nine games. Right, Yeah,
that's crazy wild, all right? Just think of it in behindsight,
like I ain't saying I'm We're gonna win every damn game. Yeah,
if I played half of them games, we remember one
seven in for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
So he missed thirty games automatically.

Speaker 3 (01:07:03):
Technically he missed twenty nine, but I'm not chiding him
for that fifty three games played. They actually were pretty
good when he played thirty three and twenty. I just
told you the number one team in the West was
a fifty seven game winner.

Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
That's Oklahoma City tight squeeze in the way.

Speaker 3 (01:07:18):
So in the twenty nine games that he missed, if
he had played in all twenty nine of those games,
they would have needed to go twenty four and five.
They went thirty three and twenty with him again, very good.
Twenty four and five is you're the best team ever almost.
That's a fifty win season in your first sixty games, basically,
So I don't think they could have quite played at

(01:07:39):
that pace.

Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
And I'll be nice as.

Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
Soon as he said, we would have been the number
one seed in the West, or at least played for it,
which of course I neglected to add there.

Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
There were eight games back of the number one seed.
At some point.

Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
You're obviously not still firing on all cylinders to get there,
But are you at all on board with if a
very off injured player Bradley Beal and two other players
who usually managed to stay out there, even at Durant's age.
Are you on board with Beale thinking, which he's clearly thinking,

(01:08:11):
if those three players play sixty five seventy games, they're
significantly better. They're going to be in the top four.
They finished sixth last year. They have a legit chance
to threaten the West well and not blow up the team,
which is why they're tied to the Rockets and why
it matters.

Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
Which is what I'd like to see. First of all,
I think the Phoenix Suns are hoping that that's what
they thought last year. I'm sure I'd have to ask,
and this is putting on spot. What was the record
when he was out?

Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
Well, they were thirty three and twenty when he played,
and they finished with forty nine.

Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
That's they want to do the math in my head, well, they.

Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
Went sixteen and thirty three and whatever's left sixteen and thirteen, So.

Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
They were a five hundred team while he was out.

Speaker 3 (01:08:52):
But they were thirteen over when he played, only three
over when he didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
I mean, it's hard to argue based on the numbers.
But did you ever feel like when they were all
on the floor that they were anything special?

Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
No, because now you have three, and at this stage
his career, he is they have three bad defensive players.
You only played five, Now you got three bad ones.
The other side of that, though, Booker's not awful, But.

Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
Is that the NBA or the Western Conference specifically is
so competitive. It's tightly packed. It's I mean, you just
said it, seven or eight games separating the first seed
from the eighth seed. So it's all of these are
in his favor as far as arguing for that logic,
But what was the best team Bradley Beal was on
before the Phoenix Suns one of those Washington team.

Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
One of his Washington teams where he wasn't as healthy
with John Wall. Yeah, they probably would with what was
going on in the East. I actually think they could
have made a little bit better run. But for the
most part in his career, whether his numbers have gone
up or he's had really good seasons, he just hasn't
been on really good teams.

Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
They said it though, win in the postseason. This mix
of these three top end guys, I don't know where
you put Bradley Beal top end. Well, Well, he's he's
not like, he's not mediocre. When he's healthy, He's a
plus scorer at least, even if it's a volume shooter
doing it. Kevin Durant isn't what he used to be,
but he can still shoot. And you know how my
feelings on Devin Booker is he the greatest elitist defensive

(01:10:15):
player ever? No, but the guy scored eighty in a
game that gets my attention, And yes, I would part
ways with some of the Rockets young core to get
a guy like that. It comes into play with what
we're talking about. Okay, so I'm not on board with that.
I don't think I'm gonna just absolutely automatically say it.
But it's not his worst take he's ever had.

Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
Yeah, I think they'll end up probably being about where
they were, somewhere between five six, seven eight, and they
will probably have some injury an early exit too, Yes,
I think an early exit a catchups do. Two great players, though,
can turn a series. The two great players that cost
them the series were on the other team, and Anthony
Edwards was one of them. All Right, your other two
options for the remainder of say what Let's do NFL?

Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
NFL.

Speaker 3 (01:10:55):
We've been talking about Deshaun Watson quite a bit, clearly
on an NFL Sunday. If you are are sitting in
studio for one of the networks that carry's games, you're
probably gonna talking about him as well, both during the
game and then after the game. So the crew that
sits in studio, Kurt Menafee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan,
and Rob Gronkowski, we're discussing Deshaun Watson. You don't hear

(01:11:19):
from Kurt, but you do hear from Terry, followed by Howie,
followed by Michael and Gronk. This is what Terry said
about maybe here's an option for what the Browns could
consider with Deshaun Watson.

Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
Do you put Watson down?

Speaker 4 (01:11:33):
Now?

Speaker 9 (01:11:34):
He has not played well since he's been in Cleveland,
simply has not played well.

Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
I don't want to put him down.

Speaker 4 (01:11:39):
I'd want to sit him. Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
Know what you're doing.

Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
They heard his words literally and reacted appropriately. Do you
put him down? So how he jumped in like I
think that's a little harsh.

Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
So if I'm to hear what Terry Bradshaw said, he
wants him to visit the Rainbow Bridge, wants to give
him the old Yeller treatment. Have made all met at
the airport. Yeah, take him to the train station.

Speaker 3 (01:12:07):
Yes, all of the cement shoes, um, yes, he maybe
he should sleep with.

Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
The fishes, all of those things.

Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
Yes, he did not mean that, but his word said
termination was something they should consider.

Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
Now metaphorically, I do think they should consider that.

Speaker 3 (01:12:29):
Not murdering him, terminating his contract, terminating his playtime.

Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
I think it's definitely something.

Speaker 3 (01:12:34):
Last thing is college football, and we haven't really gotten
into what a wild weekend and certainly evening it was.
So we'll let the head coach of ole Miss football
do that for us. As ole Miss finished their game,
or rather easy win over South Carolina, which Shane Beemer
wasn't very happy about because of ole Miss fake injuries.
But Lane Kiffin's at the podium, and what is also

(01:12:55):
happening while Lane Kiffin is at the podium, Vanderbilt is
trying to finish off and lucky enough for us, there's
a television on in the press conference room. And here's
the question for Lane Kiffin, how.

Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
Would you assess, just sort of the help of your
team right now? How many time outs as the Alabama have.

Speaker 4 (01:13:17):
One left?

Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
They had all three of you.

Speaker 9 (01:13:20):
Have one left one eighteen.

Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
Sorry, I didn't.

Speaker 4 (01:13:24):
I mean, this is like a once in a lifetime
thing going on. Better watch, You're not gonna see it
probably ever again.

Speaker 10 (01:13:31):
What was the question?

Speaker 3 (01:13:34):
Just like Vandy used what Nick Saban said a couple
of weeks ago. The only place that's easy to go
and win in the SEC is Vanderbilt. If the opportunity presents,
they will use Lane Kifn saying, well, this is never
ever going to happen again.

Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
He can't waste this opportunity.

Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
He was watching the end of the game and not
listening to the super important reporters.

Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
Questions, and I don't blame him one bit. The A
Team continues.

Speaker 1 (01:13:57):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven nineteen. Adam Clinton sounds
like this, Adam Clinton Here. Adam Wexler sounds like this.

Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
Hey it's Adam Wexler.

Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
Which one is missing in Adam Zapple playing They don't
be countful with THEE continues on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
You know what I like about Pat McAfee and his
daily shows that he's not afraid being the diehard, unabashed
Colts fan and former player that he is to bring
on guys that absolutely crush his hopes and dreams when
it comes to victories on any given day, and c J.
Stroud has been one of those guys. He has now
done this multiple times with He famously infamously had him

(01:14:46):
on after the end of the regular season game that
was a de facto playoff game whoever won went to
the postseason last year and CJ Denico Collins telling me,
if you've heard this one before, a deep bomb to
set the tone on an early portion of the game.
Just saw that this last week. Did it to the
Colts obviously in that game, and and Pat McAfee had
him on and was basically like, hey man, you're ripping

(01:15:07):
my heart out here. He did it again today. He
was a guest on the pack of Pat McAfee show
and was talking about another pass to Nico Collins against
the Colts, which happened in the season opener this year.
Colts were trying to get back into things, and that
I don't even know how you described it. At this point.
It was just as much of a static fress, perfect

(01:15:30):
pass and catch though because because Nico had to contort,
had to cradle the right way to get his knee down. Yeah,
all of these things that both of these spectacular athletes
had to do to make that pass a completion. Uh,
and you know, break the heart of Pat McAfee and

(01:15:51):
other Colts fans again and halt Tyrese Haliburton being one
of them, which screw that guy. Good. You'll get gold
medalists if he can chirp at the Rockets because he's good.
He was five hundred good against them last year. Okay,
So anyways, the Pat McAfee show today starring c. J.

(01:16:12):
Stroud and the crowds at NRG Stadium.

Speaker 10 (01:16:17):
Last game was like a playoff game. It was pretty
nice and you know it's it's twelve o'clock. Game is
a little a little different and this because you know,
there's a lot to do out here, so we really
don't get a body until like first quarter. But the
people who come early, thank you appreciated. But it's all
love though, like they it's been loud though, it's been

(01:16:37):
really loud. Like the Bears game was amazing for like
a playoff game. Last game for like a playoff game.
So you know, it's it's on a prise.

Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
So what he's saying there that play the Nico Collins
we were talking about was as the Colts faithful was
getting particularly raucous, and he wanted he needed to quiet
them down. And so then he's he's talking about the
crowd at NRG Stadium mine any given Sunday, and he's
right after, like midway through the first quarter to the
second quarter, you get a great, full throated crowd. But

(01:17:07):
before that, there's a lot of things to do in Houston.

Speaker 3 (01:17:09):
He said something about a lot of things to do,
and he said this particular game had a little bit
of a playoff atmosphere. I think the Sunday Night game
did two, but mainly because it was Sunday Night, not
because they were playing in Week two against the Bears,
was also their home opener. This game was actually different
and I never ended up posting about it. It was
very noticeable on the way in. There were tons of

(01:17:32):
Bills fans there. You could hear them and you could
see them. The lower bowl at kickoff had more people
in it than they've had for a game since CJ.
Stroud's been here. I mean, I could go back further,
but this era is the one we like to reference.
It's not for a lack of interest. Everyone's loves on
the Texans and deservedly so. This is the most hype
they've had around them, the most people want to talk

(01:17:52):
about them in a long long time. It isn't that,
but I think CJ said it quite well, But it
was noticeably different.

Speaker 2 (01:17:59):
There weren't a lot of empty seats.

Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
There certainly weren't swaths of empty seats in the lower bowl,
but you could also tell that it was people that
were Bills fans. You could tell when the Bills hit
the field about thirteen fifteen minutes before the game. You
could tell when the Bills opened the game with the
game's first points. And that was what made it so different.
And there were a bunch of games like that in

(01:18:21):
previous years where there were still empty seats, but there
were also tons of other teams fans. They just weren't
Texans Taylor fans or the Seahawks were a couple of
years ago, and because of their new Baylor like highlighter
style color scheme, you could see them too, but they
were just Bill's mafia was here for that game and
the Texans, but you know what, fans and team sent

(01:18:44):
them away and drowned them out eventually.

Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
You know what's funny about that? If it's anything like
it was in I believe twenty fourteen. It was either
twenty fourteen or twenty fifteen. The last time the Texans
played at Jerry World, it was half and half at best,
I mean, and I was there. It was absolutely invaded

(01:19:06):
by Texans fans because they were wearing red. More than anything.
It was like, okay, well let's pick the one color
out of each particular team's color schemes that'll stand out,
because if you were blue and there, it's kind of
kind of blend with all the other blue that the
Cowboys fans are wearing. I took a picture of it.
It was fifty to fifty at best, and you heard
them like you're talking about with Bill's fans, particularly when

(01:19:29):
JJ almost got to Tony Romo in time but didn't
and he launched the game winning pass. What a stupid
game that was. But I would be shocked if it's
not almost worse this year with that being on a
Monday night. Maybe not because it's a weak night and
because you know, people need to go to work the
next day, that kind of stuff, So maybe what I'm

(01:19:50):
saying is actually the opposite. But I have a feeling
there's going to be especially if these two teams keep
going the way they've been going, which is that the
Cowboys are lucky to be like a middling five hundred
type team and the Texans keep finding ways to win.
If that's the case, when that game gets here, the
Cowboys might have played themselves out of the playoff picture.

Speaker 3 (01:20:08):
Altogether, five games before the Texans get to Dallas, three
of them on the road. The next two are on
the road New England, and then the Packers a game
against Indy here which may or may not be against
Anthony Richardson the Halloween game, which we've talked about quite
a bit with the Jets in New York that Thursday night,
So a long week then precedes their home game in

(01:20:30):
the evening on Sunday night against the Detroit Lions. Then
the slightly long week as they get to Monday night
in Dallas.

Speaker 2 (01:20:39):
It's just such a like I said, starting after this
week and again not looking past the Patriots, but a
rookie quarterback for a terrible team that's won one time
this year is not the same as Jordan Love at
Lambeau and all those games you just mentioned in the
preceding weeks or the upcoming weeks. So maybe it is
a trap game. In that way, don't look past the

(01:21:00):
Patriots led by Drake May.

Speaker 3 (01:21:02):
That'd be a good rule of thumb this week. A
trap game exists when you're really awesome. I still don't
think it will happen or be one, but it means
you're really awesome. Four and one means you're really awesome
the way you've played, maybe not quite as much as
people would like. Again, they've been outscored as a whole
on this season, outscored by twenty seven points on one Sunday.
They've outscored their opponents each of the other four sundays

(01:21:23):
they've played, so a little bit misleading in that it
was just so lopsided in their only loss, but also
to the point that they have managed to win four games.
They have needed to make plays at the end of
four games in order to win, whereas the offense running
out the clock, whether it was the offense scoring a
touchdown or the defense forcing the other team off the field,
so you could go ahead and win in the case

(01:21:45):
of the Bears, or go ahead and win because then
you kick the game winning field goal of fifty nine yards,
which they did just two days ago to get to
four and one. There's only two teams in the AFC
with more than three wins, the four and one Texans
and the five and zero Chiefs. Meant to mention this
earlier today when I filled in for Matt The Texans
are minus three in turnover margin, and yet they're four

(01:22:07):
and one. They're tied for twenty fifth in turnover margin.
One of the teams worse than them, the Chiefs. The
Chiefs are minus four, they're twenty ninth in turnover margin,
and they're five and zero. It's not supposed to work
like that, and one of the biggest reasons why it
is this year, not the only reason, but a huge
one hashtag Stroud, hashtag Mahomes. When you have quarterbacks like that,

(01:22:32):
even though they're responsible for some of these turnovers, you
can overcome things that statistically you normally don't. Don't win
the turnover battle, don't expect to win a lot of
football games unless you are these two teams. To start
off twenty twenty five, it's been over twenty four whichever whichever.

Speaker 2 (01:22:49):
Yeah, this season will go into twenty five, I believe,
but it's been an odd season. We will actually continue
to talk football with our football at five segment that's
coming up next, the eight.

Speaker 4 (01:23:00):
Seed on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:23:03):
Hey, maybe you are gonna head up to Arlington to
see that Texans Cowboys game later on this year, and
that means gonna be on the highway. And if we
know anything about the highway here in Houston, the fourth
largest city in the country, that means there's a lot
more chances of you to run into dumb drivers. Mocarum
Injury Law knows that. That's why they're gonna be here

(01:23:25):
for you. Whether it's just a bad driver driver looking
at their cell phone and texting or whatnot, or drunk drivers,
God forbid. You've got to be ready with a team
standing by should there be a collision. Call the winning
team at Mocarum Injury Law two eight one two two
two twenty two, twenty two. You can catch them anytime
twenty four to seven. You can visit them in their office.

(01:23:48):
They will come to your home. They'll even come to
your bedside in the hospital if it got that bad.
But you need to have them ready to fight for
you like they've been doing for over twenty five years.
Two eight one two two two twenty two twenty two
From CARM injury law.

Speaker 1 (01:24:04):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam talking your teams.
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A team.

Speaker 5 (01:24:16):
A t.

Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
That music means it's time for football at five. I'm
going to read a couple of tweets to get us
into this segment. And actually the first one is not
a football related one, but I'll get to that. There's
two I guess six degrees of separation related to Houston
tweets that I'm their neck and neck for my favorite
tweet of the day. First one is from our own

(01:24:46):
Brian Lalima. This isn't the non football related one. Aaron
Judge strikes out more in the playoffs than checks notes
Martin Maldonado. That is a statistical fact.

Speaker 3 (01:24:58):
Yeah, threw up a little little percentage of postseason bats
resulting in strikeouts last night. Aaron Judge just ahead of
Marty and Cody Bellinger.

Speaker 2 (01:25:08):
Yes, so that is running neck and neck with my
other favorite tweet of the day one James Detur dater
dato r, I don't know, do what you want with
the pronunciation. Fifty two thousand people liked this. Deshaun Watson
has more settled lawsuits twenty three than touchdown passes nineteen

(01:25:29):
since being traded to the Browns. Wow, it's accurate. That's
the saddest thing.

Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
About season off and three partial seasons with the brown
that's four NFL seasons and it's under twenty touchdown passes
for Watson.

Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
As they say.

Speaker 3 (01:25:43):
The reason why we've now twice brought up the settled
lawsuits because that most recent lawsuit that was filed this
past month has been settled. Tony Busby said it was
confidential settlement, but in fact has been settled. Rusty Harden,
the attorney for Deshaun Watson, and when it was filed
and said that he's going to be completely vindicated on this.

(01:26:05):
It's kind of difficult to acknowledge what has happened on
this other than the fact it has been settled.

Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
Yeah, I mean, and that's that one might be that
was the fastest settled one, was it not because it
was just filed recently.

Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
Yeah, it was filed last month. It was from an
incident in twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
I feel like all the other ones had months of.

Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
Well, because I think your manner in which they were
filed and the difficulty, and I do believe there was
difficulty on Rusty's side in determining who these people were,
which is kind of a bad thing all the way around.
I mean, there's so many lawsuits that he was unsure of, Well,
who's this person and who's this person?

Speaker 2 (01:26:44):
We need information.

Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
There's obviously work to be done to, you know, get
the facts from the others see where this is going
before we can just flat out try to reach an
agreement if there is one to be reached. I think
in this case there was less uncertainty about who was
bringing this lawsuit against them, And in all these cases,
if I'm not mistaken, there had been future contact between

(01:27:06):
the complaintant person who filed the case ultimately and Watson
about having it not reached this point, but this one
did and then it's been settled.

Speaker 4 (01:27:14):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
So the actual football, if I like the football on
the field at five gone over the fact that we've
had the first casualty of the young season as far
as coaches go, right, And again, was it surprising to you?
I didn't find it particularly surprising, just because it's the
Jets and because everything's just so convoluted there anyways.

Speaker 3 (01:27:35):
Yeah, the only method of surprise that or the only
matter of surprise was just it's something that while they've
kept losing with pretty much everybody since Rex Ryan was
their head coach, he hadn't fired Woody Johnson, the owner,
had not fired anybody in season. There were only five
games into the Aaron Rodgers era.

Speaker 2 (01:27:52):
Take two.

Speaker 3 (01:27:53):
They were if they had a great finish, if he
had a great closing drive, they could have beaten the Viking,
but ultimately through his third interception of the day, and
they didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
They're two and three.

Speaker 3 (01:28:04):
They haven't been incredibly awful, but they're totally out of
sync pretty much any way you want. And that's on
the field. I mean, you can only throw the ball
to the same player so many times, and that's what
he was doing with Garrett Wilson, kind of an indicator
that he's not comfortable with anybody else. And he didn't
even seem like he was on the same page with Wilson,
but he just kept throwing him the ball. I believe
it was nineteen targets. He easily went over fifty four

(01:28:25):
and a half receiving yards. Dan was on that one
big time. But there's so many things going wrong there.
This is your solution. I'm not benching Rogers. I'm not
trading Rogers. I'm not getting rid of my GM. I'm
not forcing them to play players. I can fire the
head coach. The owner does it. He has two options.

(01:28:48):
I can go to the head coach and say you're
fired unless or I can just fire him. And the
unless usually is well, unless you get rid of so
and so, unless you fire your the OC, unless you
take over play calling, unless you whatever. And I don't
think he's dissad at well. I don't know if he's
dissatisfied with either side of the ball. And Salad obviously
he's pretty responsible for the defensive side of the ball,
but you could say, whatdy Johnson is kind of stuck

(01:29:10):
on the offensive side of the ball because it seems
reasonable to believe that Nathaniel Hackett is their offensive coordinator
for only one reason Aaron Rodgers is their quarterback. Hackett
wasn't with him when he was the head coach of
the Broncos, and now he's back with him because that's
what he wants to be back with him. So you
can't mandate to Salah that you fire the OC when
that's just one more thing that you think is going

(01:29:31):
to make your quarterback unhappy again. I think his play
has been poor. I think their offense is poor, and
I think his play has been poor, and they definitely
could be doing more things with the personnel I think
that they have in place already, so I don't even
think it's Joe Douglas's fault, but yeah, something had to
happen unless they wanted to watch this season slip away.
It's clearly not going to slip away if this fixes anything, because,

(01:29:53):
as we mentioned earlier, their matchup with the Bills this week,
they win the game, they're three and three, so are
the Bills. The Dolphins are going nowhere until or maybe
not even if Tua comes back, and the Patriots are
playing for the number one draft pick. This is totally
winnable if they win this game. If they win this game,
they have eleven games to go, and they're tied for
first against a team with a team they just beat,

(01:30:17):
and after what they did the first five weeks, that
sounds ridiculous, but that's exactly where they'll be. So I
wasn't really surprised by it. He's twenty and thirty six,
you're in year four. You never gave him a quarterback
that's not his fault.

Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
They didn't win games. It's gotta be somebody's fault. Why
is the AFC East always a disaster in some way,
shape or form, though.

Speaker 3 (01:30:38):
It's usually after the top team, like it was from
the Patriots for all those years, and you know the Bills,
it's I'm a little I'd hesitate to call it a disaster.
I still think you know they played, they played the
Ravens and the Texans. We said the Texans and the
Chiefs are the two best teams. Well, the Ravens are
the third best team. Well the Bills clearly aren't one
of the top three teams. They just lost to two

(01:30:58):
of the top three teams. Doesn't mean they're in shame amps.
It means they just didn't have good Sundays against the
Texans or the Ravens.

Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
And it's not a disaster what's happening in Buffalo. But
I mean, I feel like they're almost like the diet
version of those teams that went to the Super Bowl
and lost every time. They just go to the AFC
Championship Game and lose every time. Now that's the only difference.

Speaker 3 (01:31:17):
So the Texans went out there in their h town
blue uniforms, which you think.

Speaker 2 (01:31:24):
I it's weird. I feel like these are like the
most polarizing, you know what. They remind me of a
little bit, although it's different because they don't wear them
every game. I feel like they're a little bit like
those rockets unis that they changed to after the championships.
If you grew up ripes, Yeah, okay, well they're supposed
to be vapor treols, but nobody knew that. Oh sorry,

(01:31:46):
let me rephrase that with the vapor trails. Yeah, that one.
So they only wore them really for like five years.
If you think about it, do you may call them
the Yao uniforms? Do you call them the frances uniforms? No?
You call them THEA the Francis unifor because those were
the uniforms in which he built Toyota Center. Because it
reminds you of that in what way? Well, they were

(01:32:07):
polarizing if you talked to like my cousin and I
were This is Grant. So he's a big basketball fan
and I used to go to games with him at
the Summit when he was like yay hi, like really
and I was young obviously, but he was much younger.
But he grew up going to the games after the
Rockets had just won championships, so you're automatically attached to

(01:32:29):
those games where they were wearing those uniforms. But for
older fans, you know, like yourself, you you saw them
win in the ones they had always worn since they
got here from San Diego. Basically, why would you change
after winning two championships to something completely different. They're still
red in them, but it's dominant blue and there's paint

(01:32:49):
all over the floor and there's a grinning rocket looking
at you as your logo. They were polarizing, there's a
there's a.

Speaker 3 (01:32:58):
Huge but they were also contingent, permanent for the season. Correct,
we're gonna wear this this day and this that day,
like the Texans.

Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
So here's some people. Look at those uniforms from Sunday.
They were the most hideous things you've ever seen. I
admittedly had to come around on the h the old
English type fund. I thought they were absolute fire. I
thought the stadium looked great. Now it helps if they
win in them. If they had just bleeped the bed
in those uniforms, it would have been like the Space

(01:33:25):
City ones. Oh, the Astros can never win in these
things day suck. I hate them, get rid of them,
that kind of thing. I thought they were awesome, but
I understand why some people wouldn't like them. And here's
what I said. My father in law texted me about those.
He goes, I don't like these things. And he's a
Chief fan, you know, he's from Kansas City sending these
text messages to me. I said, look, this is what
happens when you want to use what ended up being

(01:33:49):
a accent color as the main color. But the Titans
are petty and got involved and wouldn't let you. I
don't know that that's what happened. It seems like what happened, right,
So you had to kind of pivot on pivot on
the fly, and I think that's what you got. If
the Texans had their way, they will probably would have
been far more dominant. In the quote H Town blue,

(01:34:11):
it's the oilers blue, and you wouldn't have gotten that
version of them. But this is what you have, and
I think you did the best with what you were
able to do. I just wish they wore them all
the time, or some semblance of them.

Speaker 3 (01:34:23):
Funny you should say just that because someone very very
very very very important. Totally agrees with you, and he
said as much when he was speaking to the Texans
in house media.

Speaker 2 (01:34:38):
Nice is we need to make that our primary uniform.

Speaker 9 (01:34:41):
Those are really nice, man, I played they look really
good at them and those are sweet.

Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
That's Tamiko Ryans, who's worn every version of the Texans jerseys,
and tell this one, I think.

Speaker 3 (01:34:53):
And all he was wearing was red with the h
town Old logo on it right as he usually does.

Speaker 2 (01:34:58):
I did not. I had not heard that sound by
before you played it full disclosure, so I wasn't playing
up to the segment. I can't disagree with him at all.
I mean they're awesome. They're better than what they were wearing,
and I mean the ones before this year. I actually
think they've made improvements on what they originally had, which
is what the primary jerseys are. But I wouldn't have it.

(01:35:19):
It's like the Dunkster not jerseys the Rockets. If you're
not going to go back to catch up a mustard,
make those your permanent uniforms and logo. It's awesome, That's
all I got.

Speaker 3 (01:35:27):
It's perfect timing as the segment comes to a close.
But more on the Texans on the other side.

Speaker 4 (01:35:34):
The A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
No matter what you're wearing, if you have joint pain,
you're not living life to its fullest. You can dress
up and try to ignore the fact that your joints hurt,
your knees, your hips, your shoulders, your back, but we
all know that when you go home, nobody sees what
you're wearing around the house. It's not gonna matter if
you can't get from room to room because your knee,
your creaky hip or whatever is hurting you. So instead
of going under the knife for surgery, go and get

(01:36:01):
amazing regenerative medicine treatments from the good people over at
QC Kinetics.

Speaker 3 (01:36:05):

course their Cyprus location again, lasting relief is a possibility.
Find it at QC Kinetics seven one three, nine to
one three fifty two eighty five.

Speaker 1 (01:36:38):
The A Team continues one Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:36:49):
In our number three segment two two more to go,
Get you on your merry way. Wex and Ac here
with you on the A Team along with Dan our
signature segment earlier today, say what dribbling around a couple
of different places. Talk a little bit about the NBA there,
It didn't mention a whole lot about the Rockets game
last night. As they move forward towards the regular season,
we will probably do more of that both here and

(01:37:10):
on Space City Home Network, where you catch this show
via simulcast. Right now, we've got Rockets basketball tomorrow night.
You're in Oklahoma City for their last preseason road game.
All two of them wrap it up against the Thunder
tomorrow night seven o'clock tip, and you can hear that
right here and see it right there, beginning with coverage
at six point thirty. Some of the Cats that were
in streets for last night's game. Probably we'll be ready

(01:37:33):
to go for tomorrow night's game, and then I'll probably
do something very similar for their two games and three
nights next week, beginning on Tuesday, the fifteenth, twenty third
is when the season will open for the Rockets. We're
talking about the Texans quite obviously at football at five.
Their game this weekend coming up against the Patriots, an
opportunity to get to five and one, an opportunity to

(01:37:54):
continue to create distance between themselves and the three other
not very good teams in their division, two of which
they've already beaten and two of which will play one
another this weekend. Last weekend, it was the Colts and
Jaguars playing each other. Joe Flacco nearly pulled off an
amazing comeback, but Trevor Lawrence was able to maneuver his
team again into position to win that game late, which

(01:38:17):
they did with a field goal. Colts and Titans play
each other this week. Titans had a week off. They're
still monitoring the health status of Will Levis. If he
can't go, Mason Rudolph will go, and the Colts probably
will be going with Joe Flacco again, but we'll see
how the week goes. Noon game on Sunday. If the
Colts are unable to beat the Titans, they'll both have

(01:38:41):
two wins. If the Texans are able to beat the Patriots,
they'll have five wins six games into the season, with
eleven games to go, including a win over the Colts,
including a win.

Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
Over the Jaguars. The Jaguars this weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:38:59):
Probably feel better about themselves coming off of their win,
but they're also making the trip over to Tottenham Hotspur
Stadium in London road games against the Bears and Caleb Williams.
The Bears, who the Texans beat in Week two, are

(01:39:20):
currently inside the NFC playoff picture at three and two.
I don't think too many people saw that coming. I
think something else they might not have seen coming is
while I've talked about how poor the AFC South is,
that you probably did see. All four teams have been
outscored this season by their opponents, the Texans, Colts, Titans
and Jaguars. In fact, the Colts and Titans have a

(01:39:43):
better point differential than the Texans so far this year.
But the division they were set to play each of
these teams the NFC North. The NFC North is the
only division in the NFL where every team has a
winning record. The Bears, Packers are three and two, the
Lions are three and one. They had their off week
this PAS week, and the Vikings obviously are five and zero,

(01:40:03):
and that happens to be the division that the teams
in the AFC South matchup against.

Speaker 2 (01:40:08):
So the Minnesota Vikings are a top the best division
in football? And how many? So how many?

Speaker 3 (01:40:17):
And I actually don't think anything about it is flukish.
I actually do believe they have the four best team,
oh any division. I really do believe that's the best
division in football. No, I mean it's not just by
the obvious record, right.

Speaker 2 (01:40:33):
I mean all of those teams have at least played competitively.

Speaker 3 (01:40:38):
All four of those teams are plus twenty right point
differentially and have a winning record. You know, the Bears,
when they're not playing at home haven't won any games,
so technically they're not going to be at home this weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:40:47):
But it's also not a road game.

Speaker 3 (01:40:49):
Each of the other divisions one as the Carolina Panthers,
one as the New York Giants, one has the Vegas Raiders,
one has the one to win Titans and Jaguars. The
North has two one win teams, and obviously the Texans
are playing the Patriots. The one win team in the East,
the NFC West, I actually think is comparably good.

Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
But they're all just not awful.

Speaker 3 (01:41:11):
It's a group of teams that aren't bad, but none
of them are really really good.

Speaker 2 (01:41:15):
The Vikings are really really good. The Lions are really
really good.

Speaker 3 (01:41:18):
The Packers probably get to move forward the next twelve
games with Jordan Love and they'll be very good because
of it. The Cardinals, Niners, Rams, and Seahawks, they're just
not awful. Rams have so many injuries on offense, especially
wide receiver, clearly that I think it's made life difficult
for Stafford, who's throwing ten plus passes to Colby Parkinson.

(01:41:40):
That's one reason why they're sitting at one and four.
Each of the teams in their division besides them are
putting up major points, all better than one hundred and
twenty so far through five weeks. They haven't even gotten
to one hundred yet, while they've given up the most
points in the NFC.

Speaker 2 (01:41:55):
How many times have the how many times have the
Vikings played another team in their division through the first
five weeks?

Speaker 3 (01:42:00):
Just on who is that Packer game with a huge
lead in the Jordan le almost all the way this
last week.

Speaker 2 (01:42:05):
Okay, yeah, so that is interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:42:08):
Nobody else has played a division game. That's the only
division game played by anybody in their division.

Speaker 2 (01:42:13):
Really, Yep, that's just an oddity of the schedule, absolutely is.
So it's gonna be very very jumbled down the stretch.
They're going to see each other quite a bit. Yeah,
And the thing about the Texans with what you were
talking about, because what I said in I think it
was the first segment of the show. If not, there's
definitely an hour number one where I said they're gonna
have to keep up this pace. But where the save

(01:42:34):
is and you just mentioned it because of how far
ahead they are already in the division. Those teams underneath
them in the AFC South have to play all these
other teams too. So if you already have that pad
and you keep beating them, I e. The Cult coming up,
et cetera, et cetera. I think they're gonna sweep the
Titans because the Titans are awful no matter who plays
quarterback for them. And then you know, like if the

(01:42:57):
Jags beat them in Jacksonville, actually I will be mad
about that.

Speaker 3 (01:43:01):
We'll just consider this mathematically. Go beat the Patriots this week.
That's five wins. You just said they're going to sweep
the Titans. That's seven wins. Yep, what if you beat
the Colts and Jaguars again, as you've already beat them
on the road. Well, it's two more. Now you're at
nine wins with all of your other games.

Speaker 2 (01:43:16):
Trip, and you'll make the playoffs by beating one other team.

Speaker 3 (01:43:18):
It's less I keep mentioning how far ahead they are
in the division. It's actually less about that. It's more
about you still have four more games against these bad teams,
and you're putting distance and cushion and tiebreakers potentially in
your back pocket. You put the Bills tie breaker in
your back pocket. You still see the Chiefs and Ravens
head up later this year. You're not playing to land

(01:43:39):
where you did last year, the four seed, the worst
of the four division winners. You're playing for a three seed,
a two seed, a one seed.

Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
And you I said, you know, when we went around
and did our predictions or whatever, at the beginning of
the year, I said ten wins. I was definitely padding
for a tough schedule.

Speaker 5 (01:43:56):
But.

Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
Honestly, win get home against the Bills through the first
five weeks of the season, four and one is probably
where I would have had the Texans. I probably would
have put that one loss against the Bills because I
thought the Bills would be better. I definitely didn't see
the Vikings being as good as they were, and I
probably would have given them wins and those other games
they've played. Now is where the rubber meets the road

(01:44:19):
of my prediction, Like, even if you do well in
the division, you're gonna have to You're gonna have to
play better than I expected, in other words, to exceed
the ten win prediction on my part, I think you
said eleven m hm. So you know if they if
they in this season with more than eleven wins, I'll

(01:44:39):
still be pleasantly surprised. Let's put it that way. I
won't be shocked, but I'll be pleasantly surprised because this
is a brutal schedule coming out. But I do think
that Jets game suddenly got a lot more winnable just
because of the chaos going on right now, even though
it's a long ways away, could be the case.

Speaker 3 (01:44:54):
Probably have time here to get kJ in here on
the phone, so everyone three two, one, two, five, seven
ninety you want to weigh in on what we're just
gus and kJ does.

Speaker 2 (01:45:01):
What's up? kJ does not? Is what I meant to
say he does not want to weigh in. It's not
we won't.

Speaker 3 (01:45:10):
Silence is probably not the best way for it. Maybe
it's on our end again, never know, but where we're
one thing. We haven't talked about this mostly in the
entire show, and it's not because we haven't seen an
injury report yet because it's only Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (01:45:23):
You're playing games without Nico Collins. Moving forward. It's not
just gonna be this game.

Speaker 3 (01:45:27):
It's gonna be a couple of games, most likely, because
I think what they're doing with with Nico, what they
will do with Nico different injury, is what they've already
been doing with Joe Mixon. I don't think he's ready
to play, and they're telling him not to because they
want to play it safe. I'm sure he's not quite
ready to play, but they're also not pushing it at
this point in the season. I think it's a better
way to play it. I hope they continue to do that.

(01:45:48):
I think they have the quality of receivers and passing
game at large or as a whole, to make themselves
capable of figuring it out. I like that Tomko said
it out loud when he was talking about Nico Collins
this weekend after the injury. He's been the best receiver
in the NFL. I don't really care what everybody else

(01:46:09):
has done than the rest of their career. I'm talking
about this season. Best receiver in the NFL this season.
Wears number twelve for the Texans, and he's not gonna
be available for them this coming week.

Speaker 2 (01:46:18):
And only got nine steps in and nine snaps.

Speaker 3 (01:46:20):
He caught two balls, had seventy eight yards, and found
the end zone for the third time this year. He's
still the NFL leader in receiving yards. Probably won't be
after next week, but they have more than enough weaponry.
Stefan Diggs probably doesn't again the roles that these guys play.
I mentioned this when I saw the numbers first thing

(01:46:41):
in the morning Monday, Nico and played just nine plays.
They had sixty eight offensive snaps. He was not on
the field for fifty nine of them. Their second leading
play count receiver wasn't Tank Dell, was Xavier Hutchinson. Stefan
Diggs was out there, a Ton Dalton Schultz was out
there for every single play but one, and according to
Aaron Wilson, they might just have three active tight ends

(01:47:02):
for the first time since Brevin Jordan's injury earlier in
the year and teaguing Quatoriano, who was on the Bears
practice squad. They haven't announced this officially, though they did
mention another roster move today. Looks like they're gonna put
him on their active roster and maybe, like I said,
have three active tight ends along with Kate Stover and
Schultz for this upcoming game. Something I wondered when they
would get back to British Brooks going on ir could

(01:47:25):
our Holman signed for their secondary So a couple of
other roster moves, but Diggs, Mechi hutch Dell. They have
more than enough to overcome this, but they do have
to change. No Nico Collins, the offense changes.

Speaker 4 (01:47:39):
The age. On Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:47:44):
Maut Brin Shangoon, Hey, Salpie.

Speaker 10 (01:47:46):
Burns Left, Spans Rise stay clutched with the iHeart Radio,
Sue Moves, Sports Doll seven nine ers palm all for
Ruckus Bustball.

Speaker 3 (01:47:57):
About that time a half hour ago on the show. Oh,
when we run through some items we've not given enough
time to, or items we've not even gotten to at all,
we call it in case you missed it. Also want
to mention in case you missed it, another day of
giving you some tickets.

Speaker 2 (01:48:11):
We've got four pack of tickets.

Speaker 3 (01:48:13):
With pit passes to Monster Jam coming up later this month.
We'll do that in the final segment of the show.
Always treat our listeners that are listening to the show
the opportunity to win some of those tickets. Here one
thing we haven't mentioned. There's usually a race nobody wants
to win. First coach fired this season, and Robert Sala
was the winner. That means there's an opening. They do

(01:48:35):
have an interim coach that promoted their DC, Jeff Olbrick,
but the next Jets head coach. The odds are out,
at least from one outlet and many others sports betting
ag The one I'm sighting here Bobby Slowick fourth on
the list at eight to one. He runs the Texans offense.
Ben Johnson six to one, little bit more likely he

(01:48:57):
runs the offense in Detroit. Both of those two guys
have been on a lot of head coaching interviews, both
last season for Slok and both of the last two
seasons for Johnson. Second on the list of favorites, right
near the top is Mike Vrabel, who most of us
thought would get another gig when the season began, but
did not, And the favorite to become the next Jets

(01:49:21):
head coach is currently a member of the media and
very good at it. It's Bill Belichick at two to.

Speaker 2 (01:49:27):
One, too big a first half from two Travis Cochy
back to the Jets as their head coach. Boy, would
that be a very different press conference this time around.

Speaker 3 (01:49:38):
Undoubtedly so interesting list, and I do think each of
those coaches probably has a pretty good chance of being
a head coach when twenty twenty five begins, and I
think they're in that order. I think Slowik still has
probably some other things needed to go his way as
a head coach. There's no question to me that he
can run a great offense. Saying with Ben Johnson, I
think they're very similar. I think Rab will probably find

(01:50:00):
home somewhere. We also have to have openings, and I'm
not sure where those will necessarily be. Some of the
teams that are having the most difficult times right now
are in brand new coaching situations. Dave Canalis and Gerrodmeo
for two. We'll see if Cincinnati's one and four start
with Zach Taylor means anything. I tend to believe they'll
have a little faith in a guy who I think

(01:50:21):
had a pretty good playoff run with them not too
long ago. And Joe Burrow's playing well and he's an
offensive guy. So I don't think that's where it comes from.
But we shall see what else is there we've not
gotten to.

Speaker 7 (01:50:32):
All Right, So you guys mentioned that the Dodgers and
Padre is gonna play Game three of the National League
Division Series tonight. An email was sent out from the
Padres two season ticket holders and also posted on social media.
The subject line, at least for the email, probably from
team president Eric Grupner, should have read don't be Dodger
fans now. He starts it off nice by crediting Padre

(01:50:55):
fans for creating the best home field advantage in baseball,
while reiterating that any fan who throws items onto the
field or makes offensive, foul, or abusive comments to anyone
will be ejected from the game. Hey see no word
on if you point at a Dodgers fan and then
show them they are number one in a certain variation.

Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
I didn't see the word gesture in any of that statements,
so I think it's still a fair game. To tell
Dodgers fan their number one.

Speaker 3 (01:51:22):
No making offensive, foul or abusive comments right to anyone,
don't throw items onto the field, get a zero tolerance policy.
They do have a full guest code you can click
through if you want it. They also want to say, hey, man,
as we continue our push for a World Series championship.

Speaker 2 (01:51:40):
Our team needs you more than ever.

Speaker 3 (01:51:42):
Please continue to cheer for the Padres with all you have,
while showing class and good sportsmanship to those around.

Speaker 2 (01:51:49):
And again, they'll be doing all of this if they
adhere to this plea in a real ballpark.

Speaker 3 (01:51:56):
It does say with gratitude. Eric Repner, CEO San Diego,
and I think they clipped off the bottom of it.
That says, PS, if you guys can help us win
the next two games, it's.

Speaker 2 (01:52:06):
Over for the Dodgers. I can't wait. That would be
awesome if that were included.

Speaker 7 (01:52:10):
Well, all right, speaking of rooting for teams, there are
people who believe that Bob Costas is fully rooting for
the Yankees. On his call on TBS last night, late
in the game, Kansas City is up four to one.
Jan Carlos Stanton is at the plate with a runner
on first, and there's one out. Here's Costas get the
short win, gets the force. Can they turn two?

Speaker 5 (01:52:33):
Yes they count, And it's just the point we were making.

Speaker 2 (01:52:36):
It's not John Carlos's fault.

Speaker 5 (01:52:38):
A near base hit, couldn't beat it out at the
other end turns into a double play.

Speaker 2 (01:52:43):
And during the commercial break he took off his Yankees
jersey and underwear.

Speaker 3 (01:52:47):
Now, can you make sure everybody heard exactly what they
should have heard, because it was loud and clear. Let's
hear Bob Costas on the most exciting player in the
American League, that's not Aaron Judge helped turn an inning
ending double play in a huge playoff game late on
the road.

Speaker 2 (01:53:08):
Here's how it sounded from Bob Costas again.

Speaker 5 (01:53:10):
Gets the force. Can they turn two? Yes they can.
And it's just the point we were making. It's not just.

Speaker 3 (01:53:18):
Like there's this gian Carlo Stanton aspect to it. Because
their own announcer, your favorite guy, Michael Ka had felt
compelled to say something similar like Albert Poohols thinks Giancarlo
Stanton is slow. He really can't run, He does not accelerate,
he doesn't turn base as well.

Speaker 2 (01:53:35):
He cannot he can barely saw like he should have.

Speaker 3 (01:53:38):
Scored from second base I was the other day, or
I mean it has happened. So he was actually trying
to illustrate a point they made earlier in the game,
but the manner in which he did it is impossible
to ignore.

Speaker 2 (01:53:51):
Give me, give me how he should have.

Speaker 3 (01:53:55):
It's a shame that this once really good player athlete
can no longer run. And it was clearly something they
had talked about earlier in the game, but it just
comes off like, I can't believe the Yankees aren't gonna
be up two games to.

Speaker 2 (01:54:09):
None, right because it's Kansas City, and because it's anybody
not named the Yankees having some success at any portion
of a game against the Yankees.

Speaker 3 (01:54:20):
It's something that quite honestly, if he were on the
call for the Astros Tigers series and Jose al Tuvey
was on first base with one out in the eighth
inning of a game they were trailing by two runs,
and Jordan Alvarez, again just last week, rounded one to
the shortstop, who flipped it to the second baseman who
fired it to first, he would definitely not have even

(01:54:42):
taken that tone when a player, for different reasons, is
in the exact same situation he can't run because he's
wearing a brace on his knee, because he probably shouldn't
even be out there. Stanton just can't run because that's
who he is now and has been for quite some time.

Speaker 2 (01:54:57):
I wonder why his body's breaking down. Probably isn't because
the PDS or anything. What else do we have?

Speaker 5 (01:55:02):
All?

Speaker 4 (01:55:02):
Right?

Speaker 7 (01:55:03):
So we know about Alex Bregman's help this season with
Hunter Brown, and I don't know if he was directly
involved with you say Kakuchi, but we have yet another
astro pitcher who gave him credit for helping him out
this season, Taylor Scott on with the pitching Ninja, Rob Friedman,
and he had this to say, but.

Speaker 8 (01:55:22):
He took it pretty seriously.

Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
Throughout the year.

Speaker 8 (01:55:25):
We were talking about how to read hit his swings,
and you know how they take some pitches kind of
tells you what they're looking for. And that's the side
of the game I never kind of understood or looked at.
And so we would always ask him about that, and yeah,
he's so smart and he just is just the pure
baseball guy. And so he started doing his own scam
reports on hitters and telling us, you know this, this
guy calling at this pitch, he crushes this kind of pitch,

(01:55:47):
stay away from this. And then it was a game
changer because he actually, like sometimes the scam reports didn't
tell you what he was telling you, and he was
spot on, just because he knows the game and he
knows these hitters and how they swing.

Speaker 3 (01:56:00):
You're losing a lot and a lot more than meets
the eye. If Alex Bregman is playing for another team
and that team is gaining a lot, a lot more
than meets the eye than his twenty six homers, then
his eighty plus RBIs then is lower than you'd expect
ops or ops plus. It is so incredibly helpful that

(01:56:20):
I have someone in your clubhouse helping every player on
the team, pitchers included, hitters included on making that day's
work that much more positive. And that's what he's done
for this team. As the players are telling you, clear as.

Speaker 1 (01:56:34):
Day, the ad on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:56:40):
Some things are clear as day. Others you might need
to get some test results to find out, Like you
might assume your testosterone level isn't where it needs to be,
but you've got to find out for sure, and the
only place to go to to do just that is
Men's Tclinic dot com. That is the website to go to.
It'll tell you all about what lote testosterone is and

(01:57:01):
how they can treat it. They'll also tell you the
specifics on their five convenient Houston area locations located in
the Heights, Cyprus, Paarland, Pasadena, and Spring. All those locations
have on site labs and you'll be able to get
your test results back that same day, usually within the hour.
If you have low testosterone. Men's Teaclinic dot com it's

(01:57:23):
also the place to go to tell you about how
they're gonna treat it, what it could be affecting. It's
not just sexual wellness, so many things can be affected
negatively by low testosterone levels. Find out for sure at
Men's Tclinic dot com. They say, you only have one life,
so we don't waste it.

Speaker 1 (01:57:41):
Being Dallas fans.

Speaker 4 (01:57:43):
Do back to Houston's a team.

Speaker 2 (01:57:46):
Alright, alright, alright.

Speaker 1 (01:57:48):
Adam Clinton at Adam Wexler on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:57:54):
Got some more odds to give you, But first, got
some tickets to give you. Four pack of ticket it's
with pit passes to Monster Jam on October nineteenth at
a NRG stadium. Tickets are also on sale now at
ticketmaster dot com. We actually got a couple pairs or
a couple of four packs to give away today. If
you've been listening to the show, you'll know the answer
to this question. And it also revolves around odds, and

(01:58:17):
we recently mentioned this on the show, and thus that's
why I'm asking you about it. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. If you know the answer
to this question, I'm about to ask those pit passes
and tickets to Monster Jam a four pack can be yours.
We know that Robert Sala got fired, and we know
that they have an opening, and they have an interim coach.

(01:58:38):
They will hire a new permanent head coach. I mentioned
last segment who the odds on favorite was to be
the next Jets head coach. So just tell Dan who
I said that was? Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. Who's the favorite according to sports betting
AG to be the next just head coach? And you

(01:59:00):
can go to Sea Monster jamp. I mentioned I had
some other odds for you recently moving up the charts
and now the favorite to win MVP if Patrick Mahomes
doesn't Patrick Mahomes is still the favorite, but in the
last week, passing both Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson is

(01:59:23):
c J. Stroud that is, this is Daniel's top five.
Dan had mentioned him earlier in the week.

Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
He's had a that's impressive, remarkable starts his rookie see
seven to one for him, seven to two to one,
Daniel's nine to one, Alan Jackson seven to one, and
the always popular thirteen to two for c J. Stroud
thirteen to two, that is, And this is not a
shot at CJ at all. I think that is more

(01:59:50):
indicative of the Texans record at this point than anything else,
because those two teams you mentioned that have the guys
that fell out of favor, their record isn't as good
as a Texans.

Speaker 3 (02:00:00):
Well, you just beat Allen, so you florought places. He
played miserably, You played pretty well to a mistakes, you.

Speaker 2 (02:00:08):
Had nothing to do with it because you don't play defense.
That's the wex thing. I mean, that's looking at it.
He did have another three hundred yard day. He did
put them in front and allowed them to play without
ever losing the lead the rest of the game. As
soon as they took the lead, they never lost the lead,
and that was because his connection with Nico Collins, because
of his second the second touchdown drive that they had,
and obviously he made plays necessary to win. Dimko Ryans

(02:00:30):
actually said something additionally about the fumble, citing it was
a communication issue with the receiver, his intended target. It
was supposed to be something happening quickly, drop.

Speaker 3 (02:00:41):
Back, here's your read, here's your throw, and the receiver
and he just were not on the same page. So
we had to hang on to the football rather than
get rid of it, because I think they knew the
covers that the Bills were in and where the rush
was coming from. But unfortunately, with that getting thrown out
of whack, he ended up in a mess and he
also did not protect the ball. But it has a
little to do with their record, but why their record

(02:01:03):
went from two to one to four and one.

Speaker 2 (02:01:05):
The last two weeks.

Speaker 3 (02:01:07):
As you mentioned, the first three weeks, CJ was good,
but you weren't wowed by the passing numbers. I still
think he threw the ball tremendously well, but definitely in
front of it. Big deal to me, but I acknowledge
that the last two weeks he does have three hundred
yard days the last two weeks. They've won both of
those games. Each of the last two weeks, something's happened
late in the fourth quarter with the offense where that's

(02:01:27):
the reason they won. They drove down the field against Jacksonville,
scored the game winning touchdown, and they did what was
necessary to actually set up two consecutive field goal tries.
They just need to get to attempt the first one.
So I think the referees are erroneously called that intentional
grounding penalty on him, which was also unfortunately another miscommunication,
but it should not have resulted in that penalty.

Speaker 2 (02:01:49):
Not to go completely Iron Eagle here, who did call
the game this past week.

Speaker 3 (02:01:52):
An see Iron and Charles Davis leaving the building after
their nicely done job behind the mics.

Speaker 2 (02:01:58):
Can I say something here? I The more I think
about it and the more I see the remaining schedule
for the Texans, the more mad I'm getting about when
when when?

Speaker 5 (02:02:09):
When?

Speaker 2 (02:02:10):
When?

Speaker 5 (02:02:10):
When?

Speaker 4 (02:02:10):
When?

Speaker 2 (02:02:11):
When? That may be the case, But what are you
mad about at Chiefs home for Ravens four days apart?

Speaker 3 (02:02:18):
I thought you were reading somebody's handle. That's long. I
just they have the long week in advance of it
because of their off week.

Speaker 2 (02:02:25):
I don't care. It doesn't matter when you're playing the
two teams that I think have the best chance of being,
you know, beating you to move on to the super
Bowl essentially. And I mean, if we're being honest, if
I had to play those two teams and back to
back weeks, I would absolutely flip it. I don't want

(02:02:47):
to go against Derrick Henry four days after I travel
to Kansas City and then on Christmas Day. I mean, look,
I guess it could be worse. You could be on
the road at Christmas on Christmas Day at the Ravens.

Speaker 3 (02:03:00):
To me, it could be worse. And it is for
the Chiefs. The Ravens and the Texans have the same
bye week, which is set up, which should be helpful
on paper right into that three game stretch. And I'm
including Miami not because they're good, but because of the schedule,
and they might be good bye. Then again by week
is now, they're all, well, this week.

Speaker 2 (02:03:22):
You're back to back super Bowl champs. Make it work.

Speaker 3 (02:03:24):
So they play on the eighth, the fifteenth, the twenty first,
and the twenty fifth of December, four games in a
span of seventeen days, three games in a span of
eleven days.

Speaker 2 (02:03:33):
The Chiefs also play the twenty first in the twenty fifth.

Speaker 3 (02:03:36):
Yes, all four of the teams that are involved in
that Christmas Day game have the ex they wanted to be.
That's as fair as they could do it. They all
play Saturday and then they all play.

Speaker 2 (02:03:42):
Also, I didn't know. Yeah, that absolutely, now that I
think about it, How could the NFL do that without
having the Ravens play? Okay, well I feel a little
bit better now, but I still don't like it. I
don't either.

Speaker 3 (02:03:53):
But the Ravens and the Texans, like I said, I
do think it's very could be very beneficial to them.
They have a game on just Sumber first and then
off to preprepare for the game on the fifteenth, twenty
first to twenty fifth.

Speaker 2 (02:04:07):
But let's say in the Chiefs game which you win, yes,
Nico Collins tweaks that hamstring again, That does you no good?

Speaker 3 (02:04:15):
Four day four days later. Wow, I'm sorry, dude. I
don't think you've ever said anything in that voice before.
That's why you could hit those notes. That's what it's
gonna sound like. If you're suffering from an injury and
you you're talking about the Texans injuries, we already know
what's Neil uh she Rice is out for the year,
Checko's on the sideline. It happens to every team. It's

(02:04:36):
just a matter of how well equipped are you to
overcome it. They went all the way the route of
Kareem Hunt to overcome it. He was super productive last year.

Speaker 2 (02:04:42):
The good news is if you win one or both
of those games, probably you've clinched something of meaning, and
so everybody will be resting in Nashville the following week.

Speaker 3 (02:04:53):
I mean that it is It is interesting that that
three game stretch leads you into the finale.

Speaker 2 (02:05:00):
There's only one game after that. It's January fifth.

Speaker 3 (02:05:03):
So one of those three teams, two of those three teams,
maybe all three teams are considering what we want to
do here?

Speaker 2 (02:05:10):
Is there still a fight for the number one seed?
Which is huge? Like who?

Speaker 3 (02:05:13):
Because you get the week off, you advance by getting
the off weekend that you're the only team in the
conference that gets Where are.

Speaker 2 (02:05:19):
You playing if you're the Chiefs and Ravens that final
game versus the Texans going even though it's on the road,
you're gonna play who will Levis? Whatever his crappy backup is.
Whoever that crappy backup is, I don't know. I mean
the Titans. Unless they have some massive turnaround, they're not
gonna be playing for anything that week.

Speaker 3 (02:05:39):
Either Baltimore finishes with the Watsons never mind, and the
Chiefs finish with Bonnicks's team at Denver.

Speaker 2 (02:05:48):
I could so see them losing the number one seed
by going to Denver and losing a division game to
Bonnicks and Sean Payton if he's even still the coach there, Oh,
he'll still be the coach. There's doing a great job
this year in a good way. It's okay. They're fighting
each other in a good way. He didn't want to
hear it. He's tired of Sean.

Speaker 3 (02:06:06):
Of them reacted very well when pressed on the issue
following the game. And I mean, by now, with all
social media and all the cameras and all the phone
we see this with every team, people yelling at each
other on the sidelines.

Speaker 2 (02:06:18):
It's not always bad bad like Kevin Stefanski and Deshaun
DeShawn lawsuit. You done almost We're all done here on
the A team. That cap is next.

Speaker 4 (02:06:31):
The A team. On Sports Talk seven ninety
