Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is an absolute pleasure. And when we found out
that Hannah Storm was going to be available to come
on the air in Houston, Texas, it's no brainer, right.
She's familiar with the area, way familiar and good to
talk to her again. I know I've spoken to you
on the radio before. I know you're probably even more
familiar with my co host Adam Wexler.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
But how have you been lately? It's good to catch
up with.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
You, Okay, a team, Good to catch up with you, guys.
I'm doing great. Really appreciate you guys having me on.
It's busy time of year and i'ms like to talk
to you guys a little bit about Houston sports and
then a little bit about you know, kind of taking
care of our health this time of year too, really important.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Absolutely, And last night at Toyota Center, the Rockets had
that old throwback court that you're probably very familiar with
from your days covering the real championship teams at the Summit.
What have you seen about this early season's Rockets club
that's kind of gotten your attention?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Listen. I love that win last night, didn't you, guys?
I thought that I thought that was terrific. I don't
know what's going on with Halliburton. That's probably another another subject.
But I just think, uh, you know, they're young, they're hungry.
I think we've seen teams that come through and have
developed like that. I think, look at what the Cleveland

(01:20):
Cavaliers are this year. I keep thinking like, Okay, could
that be the Rockets next year? Could we could we
be that good? You know, I've gone through a lot
of changes, but there's so much talent. Maybe maybe could
use I know there was kind of a flirtation at
some point with thinking about Giannis, and I'm kind of

(01:41):
glad the team seems to have moved on from that
because I would hate to break this group up. Maybe
could use a little three point shooting, but but I
really I really like this team, and you guys know
how loyal I am to the Rockets.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
So does everybody, because you properly try to make sure
everybody who's watched your programs, whether it's Sports cent or otherwise,
if there's an opportunity for you to mention it, we
certainly appreciate that you do.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Everybody seemed to enjoy that.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah, I carry the tours for Age Town. Last year.
You should have heard me. I hosted a ton of
NFL Live during the season, and I was talking about
the Texans NonStop, and finally a spike later in this season,
everybody was like, oh, yeah, that team that you kept
talking about. I'm like, guys, look, they're in every game,
They're so close. Look at the siege is getting better

(02:30):
and better. And then finally, of course, by the end
of the season, they were everybody's darling and you know,
even you know, some some folks were picking them to
go to the Super Bowl this year. So I thought
it was a little over the top and always a
kiss of death, but you know how that goes, and
they are by far the best team in Texas obviously,
as he proved on Monday Night.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah they did.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
I guess have to prove it on the field, but
I think we already knew the answer, and I don't
think there's no due that. Yeah, hiding allegiances. I'm sure
when you were headed out to set after leaving wardrobe
and makeup, that had to pay you back in there
and say we probably can't let you wear that Demiko
Ryan's jersey on set tonight, but maybe some other feature
that we're doing it will work out well. For I
did want to ask you something about life at Sports

(03:11):
Center because it seems like most of fans, ourselves included
other broadcasters, most of our favorite shows that have been
aired there, or favorite eras of shows, are because the
people hosting it clearly are making it fun. This is
sports and I feel like you've been able to do
that there with some of the people you worked with. Obviously,
working with Jay Harris has always seemed like you guys

(03:32):
just like hanging out doing what you do. Have you
found it to be easy to make that happen with
whomever Jay or otherwise.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah, I think that's just sort of the way I've
always operated. I feel like, why are you going to
do it if you're not going to have a good time.
To me, the most fun part of the day is
when you're on the air. I've also always been sort
of that kind of person that lets the fun come
to me. Like I'm not, like you know, we don't
like pre plan a lot of gigs and things like that.

(04:01):
We just naturally sort of find I know, with Jay,
find each other hilarious and for each other's best audience.
But I think I've always done that with the people
that I've worked with to me, and I think Inside
the NBA is obviously the ultimate example, but just you know,
having chemistry with the people you work with, really trying
hard to not have it be about you but sort

(04:24):
of be about the collective broadcast. So I guess my
focus has always been that, you know, are we telling
the right stories? Are we seeing things the right way?
Is this the right delivery? We are we covering everything correctly?
And then you're just so super prepared by the time
you hit air that you can just chill and really
enjoy those those moments that come to you.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Talking to Hannah storm here on Sports Talk seven ninety,
funny you mentioned the Inside the NBA show because they're
they're now joining you. I know, you're like an actual
sports fan like all of us. Are you as excited
that that show was I don't want to say salvage,
that's not quite the word, but in light of the
legalities and all that kind of stuff that was involved,

(05:06):
I mean, for all intents and purposes, it might not
air as much as we would like, but it's going
to stay pretty much intact, is it not.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah, I'm not sure that really people with a lot
of knowledge of this situation. Ever, Ever, I don't know
if they truly felt like that show is going to
go away. I think it's a you know, it's a
national treasure and you can't you can't just let something
like that go by the wayside. It says a lot
sort of about how creative everybody has to get now

(05:38):
with cable and streaming and and everything, you know behind
the paywall that we're doing now in our business. Trying
to figure it out that they were actually able to
license that show, you know, much as a licensed Pat
McAfee license that show to air on ESPN, which is
just such a blessing for everyone. You know, it's crazy

(05:59):
when you look at sworst that are like a win win, right,
But it allows everybody in Atlanta to keep their operation going,
keep their staff, and it makes ESPN just that much better. So,
you know, it's just one of those situations it's just wow,
that is really cool. And we weren't sure how they
were going to pull this off, but it's really cool
to keep the gang together. I think, you know, Ernie

(06:22):
included obviously, he key holds that whole thing together. Just
the fact that they were able to figure out a
vehicle to keep keep those four guys intact. It was huge.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Talking to Hannah storm here on Sports Talk seven ninety yeah,
you mentioned that you were you were kind of touting
the Texans last season when it was, you know, not
not the all the rage I guess like it was
coming into this year.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Do you do you look at CJ.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Stroud and think to yourself, all right, sophomore slump, that's
like the easiest low hanging fruit thing. Or is it
more about all right, you understand that the offensive line
hasn't been great this year, and he's kind of had
to evolve his own game to kind of make sure
that they are still in contention, and it's been it's
been a lot more difficult.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Listen, here's something else. Look, obviously we all know about
the offensive line. I mean, obviously we see what happens
when you have an incredible run game like Joe Mix,
and then we know, by the way, kudos to them
for making that happen and Dallas didn't get them running back,
and we see where we are right among other things.
I think, you know, Diggs Collins, you know, some of

(07:23):
the injuries, while unfortunate, I think have allowed the younger
receivers to come to the forefront and again Stroud, you know,
getting obviously the quicker you can get rid of the ball,
the more that helps everybody. But more than everything we
just talked about and I said this to people too,
and they were just kind of like, oh, that's no

(07:43):
big deal. But if you look at the Texans last year,
they played every Sunday and they played in the same
time slot. That was it. And this has been a
completely different year. You're talking about playing on multiple different
nights a week, you're talking about primetime, you're talking about
long breaks, short breaks, you know, playing on holidays. I mean,
their schedule and everything that this team has to manage,

(08:05):
plus being the hunted right instead of just coming out
of nowhere and surprising everybody. Those are all things that
factor in to what's happening this year. And it's a
second year adjustment, not just for CJ, but for Demiko
and you know, listen, it's a young team. So I
think that they're going to be fine. Their division is terrible,

(08:26):
as we all know. But what we're going to really
find out is at the end of the season when
they have the Dolphins and they have the Chiefs and
they have the Ravens boom boom, boom, all back to
back to back's that's your litmus test. You want that
to happen towards the back end of the season, and so.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
We'll see sounds like good holiday fun to me talking
to a hand of storm here on Sports Talk seven
ninety does it? I cannot wait for it? The A team,
Adam and Adam here with you. One more thing before
we get to the other important items. With all that
you have had the ability to do, you know, hosting shows,
covering events, sideline reporting, you've called games before, You've been
to all the event is there something you still hope

(09:02):
to do, want to do, someone you want to work with.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
I don't know if you've already done this. I didn't
think you had.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
I'm curious have you ever is there something you still
want to do or have you ever worked an event
with mister Dan Hicks?

Speaker 3 (09:16):
You know that is so funny that you say that.
I So we were at NBC at the same time
for ten years. So we used to host Sports Tonight
on CNN together. That's how we met and it was
so much fun. And then when we were at NBC,
we did just a couple of like Olympic specials together,

(09:38):
but we were never able to work together. And it
is really funny that you say that, because I literally
was just thinking about how much fun it would be
to do something together. Our schedules are so crazy opposite
because you know, he does golf and Olympics and swimming
and skiing and all of that, and you know, I
think we've just been busy, like raising our kids and

(09:58):
keeping our house pulled together and all of that. But
we might be at the point where we could do
some kind of fun project together. If only people just
hear what we talk about, you know, at dinner every night.
I think it would be pretty entertaining.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
I wound up meeting my wife here at iHeart and
she was a few studio doors down, so I understand
that that element of things. But we're talking to Hannah
Storm here on Sports Talk seven ninety. It is the
eighteen before we get to the other important item that
WEX mentioned. I just have to ask you this question,
because I do associate you with this piece of music.
How excited are you that John Tesh's greatest hit is

(10:36):
coming back?

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Oh my god, I can't. I can't round ball Rock.
I mean, I love it so much. I love the
fact that, you know, I that era of doing the
NBA on NBC was it just can't be duplicated, you know,
it was. It was unbelievable. It was the Jordan Championships.

(10:58):
It was all the other incredible and personalities that are
so iconic, all the other Hall of famers and just
such a such an amazing era of you know, airing
five games on a weekend when NBC was the only
place you can watch the games, and just to have
Round Ball Rock come back and you know, NBC just

(11:21):
you know, dive back into sort of their basketball history.
You know, it's really cool. And that's you guys are
on iHeart. I just did an NBA My NBA DNA
podcast on iHeart. It's twelve. It's twelve episodes and it
starts with the ABN goes through, the NBA goes through
like all those like cool years at NBC when David

(11:42):
Stern and Dick Ever saw with me about like every
single detail on our broadcast. It was really really just
a cool era. So I'm so happy that the music's
coming back because right there, it just places you in
a certain mind frame.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
It definitely sounds like something we'll sitting down for each
twelve of those episodes.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
We do love that air.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
We also are pleased that we have you on here
this afternoon to yeah, make people aware of things that
could already be happening in their lives and they need
to find out you are a cancer survivor. Raising awareness
about the importance of cancer screenings is something that obviously
you take a lot of passion in making sure people
know this is something they absolutely need to do.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Oh yeah, especially like it's a super busy time of year.
But it was this time of the year. Last year,
I had sort of my annual mammogram and they were like, oh,
you need to, you know, have an ultrasound on top
of that. And then I got to wait untill the
new year, and then they said, I don't know, we
see something. I have a biopsy. We think it's nothing.
And sure enough, boom, I had breast cancer. And I

(12:43):
had the earliest form of breast cancer, which is you know,
ninety nine percent curable, and you know, as a piece
of sort of knowing about that and having the screen
no breast cancer history, you guys, none, no symptoms, nothing,
And I've probably had twenty mammograms and nothing ever showed
up and so you just don't know. But there's like

(13:05):
super easy ways to you know, when you look around
your family you're hanging out of the holiday watching games whatever,
just like make sure like you're ware your family history
with cancers, like you know, oh yeah Uncle so and so,
oh yeah Grandpa da da da da da. Like if
you really need to know, that's like a piece of
knowledge that you need. And then there's just very easy, uh,

(13:26):
cancer screenings you can do for you know, your genetic
previous position towards cancers with just a blood test or saliva.
So yeah, I'm working with this company Myriad and mariad
dot com slash know your History. I love it because
it's easy. In ninety percent of cases, it's absolutely free.
And this is just you know, like knowledge like you

(13:49):
you know, like you need to have before you prep
for game. You know, you need the knowledge about the
other team. I mean, you need to know about your
own history, and then it helps you develop a game
plan going forward. And for me, it was just super.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Critical, absolutely, And we're glad you did, and we're glad
to have you, and we were glad to have you today.
It's Hannah Storm You're not only an American treasure, You're
obviously a Houston treasure.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Hannah.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Thanks, I love it, I love h Town, proud to
rep it, and I really appreciate you two having me
on to talk about sports, but also just the importance
of screening. You know, Listen, I mean, there's nothing more
important than you can do. Your health as at the
center of everything. I know the two of you know that.
But hey, as you know, encourage all the women in

(14:32):
your life as well, please to have their mammograms and
help them do so.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Absolutely well, Hannah, we appreciate the time.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
We look forward to seeing you and all of your
endeavors soon, sooner rather than later, and have a great rest.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Of the week.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
Thanks eighteen. Keep it up all.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Right, Hannah storm here on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Good stuff right there, And if you missed any of that,
we will have that on the podcast and social media
and everywhere else. We're going to post that asap here
on Sports Talk seven.
