Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Hat Strive with Mady and Pja thanks to Chimis
were House the Real House of Fragrances many and on that.
Hi everyone, welcome to the podcast. Hi, so we mix
it up again? Should we do a game?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Oh god, what kind of game?
Speaker 1 (00:17):
I don't know. I feeling crazy, you know, I feel
like maybe we need Do we need some questions? Actually,
like Ama at the top or something.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
That's really good? If you thank you? If you've got
any burning questions, do we just take a single question
each week and answer it.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Let's just see how many we get.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, we might not give that many.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Que the trouble week tomorrow, like anything anything you want
us to chat about at the top of the pody,
Let's get into it. You got any burning itching questions,
let this be your moment where you can slide into
our DMS zesus on the Hat Strive.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Is a softball question for you. So I found an
old newspaper article of me from when I was eleven,
and I saw this was on I did a little
kids radio show on a Sunday on the local Queenstown
radio station. Yes, and the the local newspaper did an
(01:23):
article and there's a photo of me and it and everything,
and I posted it to my Instagram last night, and
it was truly the first moment where I went, I
think this is what I want to do, Like I
love this?
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Do you love it?
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Do you remember when you got the bug or when
you thought maybe this is something you wanted to do? Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Like, Honestly, when I was a kid, I used to
always like punish my parents. I'd make cut out like
cardboard box television screens and I'd sit in front of
our TV and I would proceed to try and do
my own version of the news. So I'm always like
And then I really wanted to be with a girl,
and I really someone told me you had to be
(02:03):
a meteorologist. So I started studying with her, like clouds
and stuff. I think I got a bock on clouds.
But then I remember, this is one of those ones
who you like, PJ just one sentence sort of snow,
I'm there with you. And we had a guest came
to school and she was from the broadcasting school and
she'd gone to our school and she was talking about
her experience. I was like, man, that's cool. So I
(02:24):
started doing experience a radio station and then yeah, I
think I got the bug from there. But I want
to go back to you being in the paper at
a really young age because I was in the news classics.
We've just had a few similarities today. We both made
a Montessori remother looked after us a lot, and we
(02:46):
made the news so I and it was on CTV
so on Canterbury amazing. I made the headlines because everyone
at Mufty Day was dree staff and read in black
for the Crusaders, and I went and yellow and blue
because my other flight for the Harlement, the only one
I went against this like cruisade of everyone getting behind
(03:07):
the team and I was like, no, I'm supporting my brother.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Oh my god, were you crucified?
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Oh yeah, but hey look I got I got some
mere times. It was all worth it.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Were you very into? Did you? Did you get to
meet many like big time rugby players through your brothers,
like big names.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
I think I must have like gone to like there
after match functions and stuff a bit, but not really.
I was so young, like my brother's like ten years
older than me. So when they were in the opaque
when Zam had has won All Black game, it was like,
oh yeah, I would have been maybe twelve. I think
I was twelve when we went to the cake.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Jin when I was so when I was about twelve
as well, my Queenstown hosted a training camp for the
All Blacks. Right, Queenstown hosted a training him for the
All Backs, and the newspaper, the local newspaper, but ran
a competition where you could win dinner with a couple
of the All Blacks, and they picked like five families
(04:08):
that won the experience and they got billeted with like
two All Blacks came to their house to have dinner,
like a home cooked meal. I just couldn't imagine it
happening now.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
No, times are so differenttty different.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
And my best friend at the time, her family won
and so I got invited to the family dinner.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Does billeting happen as much now? Like that was such
a thing we were growing up. Do you still get
like students and stuff? I remember we had a British
student come over. She was somehow related to the lady
who played Money Penny, like that really conic actress.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Oh wow, yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Is it Julie Andrews someone else in Bond? No, who's
the lady in Bond? Like the really not connic.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Not j Judy Ditch.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yes, I think she was related.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Was she? Wow, there's a huge.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
She had some link, she had some lenk the James
Bond felt but like there was so fun back in
the day having bullets and stuff.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
In fairness, no one's even gonna no one's gonna fact
check you, So just say it. That's a conviction.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Should we should we billet? Should we call them billet.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
To a to a house? Maybe I'd do it?
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yeah, should we like bring back the old day billeting?
I love pj's billet program.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
I love that idea.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
But where do we billet?
Speaker 2 (05:36):
I don't know?
Speaker 1 (05:37):
And why? Like, is it a bit creepy at someone's house?
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Oh, I've told you about we we When I was
on Breakfast, one of our big sponsors was one of
the big retirement villagers, that's right, And I had to
go and spend a night at the retirement village I got.
I got billeted to a to the home of two of.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
The recess That's sweet, that's not creepy.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
What we like? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
There's kind of a reason behind that. You were sort
of getting an insight into their.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Life, right, Yeah, yeah, and that was like very carefully selected.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Yeah, I'm sure they were cooled their way, like you
guys still keep it touch.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yeah, they messaged me just the other day. Actually we
bill it.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
If you got any suggestions on how we could bill
it or where we could go.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
I love this. There's something a very bad idea. I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
But if you've got any questions, more promptly get in
touch on our DM's instagram, the hats Drive. Let us
know what you want us to chat about. Yeah, we'll
answer anything, anything.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
As you've said as your open books.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Yeah. Coming up on the podcast today, we talk about
when you got caught out in the nut, inspired by
a true story. We got your best sound effect.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Actually it was stupid, but it went better than Ryan.
My husband messaged me and was like, I love the segment.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Yeah, maybe maybe it replaces rip.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Maybe you know what, maybe it does see you lay
the blund carry And I went to a bao on
Friday night and boy, something happened that I'm still wild about.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Like, yeah, that's a lot from your friends to do
what they did. You'll find out that and much much
more coming up in the podcast. Enjoy and don't forget
to seeing us your questions on Instagram.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Bye bye May the podcast.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
You want to really appreciate me? Yes, every day, I
love you. I appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
So I wasn't fishing. I wasn't fishing.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
I also appreciate a really honest shopkeeper. So I went
into a certain department store earlier today, and I was
being a bit naughty, and I was being a bit
in poulso, and I started gathering up a couple of
tops that I don't probably need, but I was like,
oh man, it would just be so nice, like just
in another little warm top for winter. But I mean,
(08:09):
was it really in the budget? Probably not anyway, So
I started walking through the shop and I go up
to the counter, and I knew that in the department
store there were a few sales. So I was a
bit cheeky and I said, are these two on sale?
At the moment kind of fell well, knowing they weren't,
but I just wanted to double check, because you never
know if you don't ask. And she scanned them and
(08:30):
proceeded to tell me no, Actually, I'm so sorry. But
then she sort of leaned over to me and started whispering,
and she said, I tell you what come back this
weekend because they'll.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Be on sale.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
And I thought, you know what, she goes, So do
you want to get them now or do you want
to come back later? And I wake her and my girl,
my girl, thank you. I'll put them on hold. So
she's gonna put them a whole for me, and I'm
going to go back in a few days time.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
The beauty of that is I mean, there's no skin
of her nose. She doesn't own it. She doesn't own
the department store, does she?
Speaker 1 (09:11):
This is exactly it. You know, a bit of honesty
goes a long way. And even if do you know
what I also rate is when sometimes a shopkeeper, if
they don't have a certain thing, they'll go, hey, just
go a few doors down totally the other shop. Our
computer actually has exactly what.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
You you know what that does. It instills loyalty because
you're going to go bloody. Jennifer from down the road
is a real one.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
She's got my bag. She loves me. Yeah, exactly. So
a little honesty, a little good sortness, you know, I
just I rate it, and a little.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Persa for anyone in the one. And there's a soul
going on this too much.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
It's really only like one department store here.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
I think hard work many and p cast.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
You know what we are, Page, We are a professional
radio show.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Absolutely we strive to be. I don't know we always achieve.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
That with necessarily now, but you know what we do.
We try our best and.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
That's easy and that's all we can do.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
When you were a professional radio show trying the best,
one of the key things is to have really strong
production elements, and so the.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Beauty when when when now now now?
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Yeah that was really good. Yeah. But the other thing
that you can do is spice it up is sound effects.
And we have this amazing library of incredible sound.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
You search and you will find it's pretty amazing. What's
in their bank and it's been building for years and
years with all the stations around a company. So you
can imagine there are some nuggets of gold in there.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Yeah, there's nuggets of gold. And then there's real misses,
and we've had a couple of those excellently. Went to
find a drum role recently and played a very rogue
sound effect. We played that.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
I don't know why thirty three a part It is
still so funny, but also you go why was that
in the library, like what who knows? There could be
many mini stories behind that exactly.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
But because of that, because of that fail, we accidentally
put the drum roll fart sound effected. Recently we've been
really careful about trawling through the library and making sure
we find the right sound effect. And the other days
producers here and I were trying to trying to find
something we car horn, but we accidentally stumbled upon something else.
(11:44):
And it has to do with you, Peage. We found
this in our sound effect system.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
You just tuning in now you can pay for that.
Oh my god when you set recorded?
Speaker 2 (12:06):
So that was me perring if it was at another
radio station, the former radio station you used to work for.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
So he pulled that one out and tried to get
all its money to worth. That used to be my
party track.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
A long time ago. But if I've heard that, I've
heard the cat purr we've talked.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Is that that? Is that that impressive?
Speaker 2 (12:28):
It's pretty good. It's pretty do you think because when
people say do it do a cat sound effect? People?
Most people just go yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
I think it has to do with if you can
roll your y as well, or like like I feel
like you can either do it or you can't. I
can go quite granteelot.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
It's good.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
It's really because it got better of a time.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Do you think actually I would say no. I think
it's goods update the LIS, update the sound effect system.
But when I saw that, I thought, man, that's your
party trick. That's the that's the thing you can do,
the sound effects you can make. I wonder if other
people can do really good things, like I want to
know if anyone does a really good plaining sound effect
(13:09):
or a really good dolphin or whatever it might be.
I want to know if anyone else out there can
maybe update our sound effects library with the sound effects
that they do, with the amount, with the amount.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Okay, okay, Betty, you know this could go on to
because we're going to take will we take people's impersonations
or do we want to really strive for sound effects
that you can make with your mouth.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I'll take a good Oh, take a good impersonation, but
it needs to be good.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Okay, alright, alright, so I'll wait one hundred of the
heads as our number jeepers. All right, the best are
going to win prizes from chemist Warehouse. We just want
to hear the best sound effect that you can make
with your mouth or the.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Best impression or the best impression or the best.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Impression Maddy and PJ.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Mady and PJ the podcast.
Speaker 1 (14:05):

amongst the team last week, you guys will searching for
a sound of fish and the and the library, the
sound effect to library and the archives, and you came
across this labeled PJ per years ago.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
It's good, it's a good, it's a very You.
Speaker 1 (14:37):

Speaker 3 (14:49):

Speaker 4 (14:50):

Speaker 1 (14:53):
A water cape.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Are you sure you're ready for I'm so ready that.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Yeah, I'm ready, I'm ready.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Okay, can you.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Hear that that?
Speaker 1 (15:05):
I think I had a friend that could do that?
Is that when you flick your cheek.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
You flick the cheeks.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
But for the purpose of this.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
I really wanted to get the full of fick, so
I've actually clapped my hands just for the full of what.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Okay, what does the clephin do?
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (15:21):
It just makes it louder, so you probably can hear
it bitter on the phone.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
This is.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Not thank you so much? All right, strong start, I
must say at least go to Olivia eight hundred hats?

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Hit us?
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Oh but either Love, yep, we didn't hear it. We
didn't hear the sound.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Oh no, every time she goes to do it, I
think it's cutting out. Maybe we'll come back to you,
love at the end. Hang on, let's go on to
number three. We've got Zoey joining us. Oh wait, hand
of the hats, Zoey. What noise can you make with
your mouth?
Speaker 6 (16:06):
I can make a cricket noise cricket?
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Okay, alright, Oh that was good? Was regain?
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Do it again? Oh my god?
Speaker 3 (16:22):
How do you do that?
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Zoe? I just whistle in, whistle in.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Oh I can do I reckon, I can do a
pretty good seagull, though, can you all right, okay, it's
got Susie. Oh one hundred the hats. Hello, Susie, what
sound effect can you make with your mouth? I'm a
rowdy Zeena warrior, rowdy.
Speaker 2 (16:48):

Speaker 1 (17:00):
My god, Okay, where are you right now, Susie? What
you're doing that?
Speaker 7 (17:07):

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Brilliant and your car by yourself. I would love if
you're just stuck in triffic and the NIXT guy next
to you can see that.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Give us another zena, give us another zena.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
Oh my god, Oh.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
God, impressed.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
I've been really impressed today. Well done.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Do we go back to leven? Feel bad? She got
she got cut short?
Speaker 2 (17:37):
It's trying one more time?
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Yeah either yea, yeah, okay, do your dog to wrap
this up?
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Okay, oh god, we should have cut it.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Should have cut it that zena? Shouldn't we?
Speaker 3 (17:54):
Many in the podcast?
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Am I in the right key?
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Many? And Pj's blind karaoke.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Definitely not darling? All right, welcome back if you're blind.
I know, and I know some people hate listening to singing,
but do you know what it's our way of getting
back into the week. It's warming up as we hidden
to a short week this week, which is great news.
All right, So we got you to text your vote
Metti or PJ to four four eight seven. We will

reveal the winner soon, but as the song is taking place,
we want you to actually text your votes out of
five or teach your ratings sorry, out of five to
four four eight seven, and then we'll collate the overall
score at the end.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
All right, to find a words, Maddy, Well, the scores
shouldn't should be reflective of the lyrics that we're getting, right, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
And the style and the ability.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Yeah, staying in Key is never going to be one
of the key qualities that we're looking for.

Speaker 8 (19:59):
Ah coming out, so you better get this party started.
I really did like backups coming up, So you better
get this party shut in, get this party started.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
I was late, so you were like, look, you missed that.
You missed the start. Yeah, you definitely missed the start,
but once you got into the actual verse, you were good.
Speaker 9 (20:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
I felt like a harnessed in a bad ass pang
in me felt like she came out. I feel like
I'm slightly blocked up and I feel like that kind
of I really took advantage of there.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
I think you were really good this week.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Do you think out of five producers here, what is
the general rating.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
You're seeing today? It was three out of five.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Okay, we'll take it.
Speaker 2 (20:53):

Mady and PJ Medi and PJ the podcast.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
That's another notch on the social belt for old McLean
over here on Friday nights.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Yeah, so you've been so busy lately, you've been pushing
the boat out. We had a word before you went
out on Friday night. We do Yeah, we had an
agreement that I was going to message you come eight
o'clock saying, hey, do the right thing future Medi, Well,
thank you for this.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
I said, please text me in remind going to go
home because I'm just so susceptible to peer appreciate.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
So it's okay, you're still You're still young, You've got
no dependence, you can but I know that you wanted
like you wanted a quiet weekend.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
I wanted a wholesome week in. But I did have
a BYO to go to on Friday night, but I
decided I wasn't gonna drink. I was gonna have a
couple of take a couple of non alcoholic drinks with
me to the Byo Proud of you a world first.
Some might say.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
It's crazy, isn't it? Like really when you have to
break it down and go, oh my god, our culture,
it's so embedded in our culture that you have to
go above and be on to explain why you're choosing
not to.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
I know, I will say my friends were fantastic and
no one really better than an island. I mean I
was definitely. I definitely stood out like a sore thumb
because at a Bayo restaurant, if anyone's ever been to one,
they are the rowdiest of places.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Rowdy, say where I spent most of my twenties on
a Saturday night some Byo restaurant with my friends.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
It was the best time. It was a fantastic night.
Your tics did come through, I think, bang on aps
you do you laugh? I did. I had a little
I had a little giggle to myself, did you did
you see yourself? A little reminder because it really did
come come in at exactly the right time. No.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
I just put Charlie, my near two year old, to bed,
and and then I was like, oh my god, I
got a missage Mini. So I just flicking with it.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
It just said time to think about hometime, sweetheart. And
I did, I didn't. I left not long after. Then
I went home and I hadn't had a drop of alcohol,
and it was fantastic. But there was a group of
maybe ten of us at this restaurant, right yeah, And
it was to celebrate a friend's birthday. So while we
were in the restaurant, we asked one of the waitresses
to get a photo of us at the table. Here's
(23:49):
the thing about photos at a restaurant table. That never good,
Like you never get a good photo of people sitting
around a restaurant table. It just doesn't work.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Someone.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Yeah, it was great. Some one's always turning their body
awkwardly to one side, like the mess on the table.
It's just never that that pretty. It's never that good.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
You get someone from the background who's not meant to
be in the photo, in the photo exactly.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
But we got the photo anyway, and I thought that
was that. And then we all left and went onto
the street, and we stood out in the street and
we said out goodbyes. And I was the very first
person to actually disperse from the group because I was
driving and my car was part across the road. So
I said, all right, well, nice to see you guys,
catch up soon, blah blah blah across the road, hopped
into my car, turned it on. I look out the
window to drive out of my car park, and what
(24:36):
do I see? The other nine people that I was
at dinner with standing on the street getting a selfie
photo together, a group photo together.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Maybe they just couldn't fit your hidden on the roads.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
I was outraged, and I thought I could let this
pass and drive off, but I didn't. I down my
window and I screamed across the road, you e thing traders?
Speaker 1 (25:08):
How could you do this to me? I'm outraged, Like
actually seriously, now I wasn't.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
I wasn't serious. But for anyone else walking the street
seeing this crazed man leaning out his window screaming at
a group of people taking a selfie, they would have
thought I was bonkers.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Maybe they all hit something else in common that you didn't, Maybe, like,
can you think of any other reason that they'd get
a group photo like they they're in a club or they.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
The worst part was they posted the photo on social
media and then tagged. Because we were in a big
group and a few people couldn't make the dinner, so
they posted the photo, tagged the people in the photo,
and then down the bottom a little box that just
said absent, and they tagged everyone and they tagged me
in it.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
I said, I was acknowledged. You kind of outraged.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Absolutely the podcast. I was lying in beard last night. Actually,
I was reading very quiet, wholesome Sunday night.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
I've been thinking about reading to BJ and bed at night.
I was saying, I saw someone post about it last
night about how they've started book club with their husband
and they will both read the same book and bed
at the same time. I don't know if I could
get Bej to do that, but I reckon I could
read to him.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Yeah, we time show between there and the couple's massages,
and the.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
And his rugby team found out about the nighttime massages.
We've got to be quiet.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
So don't talk about book club.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
Don't talk, okay.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Anyway, I was lying in bed reading and they got
this video. A message from your husband popped up, BJ
Campbellton your message and I thought sending me at nine
o'clock at night, and it was you.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
Some random messages.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
I get voice memos from him and every Yeah, I
don't like it. This was a video and I clicked
into the video and I went, oh, my gosh. I
mean you and I are close, Peach, but this is
more of you than I've ever seen before. Literally, it
was a video from your security camera. Foot it from
(27:24):
your security camera at home of you doing a mad
nudy dash to your car at eight point fifty nine am.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
So now I want to see. I swear to God
that security camera is like the best thing and it's
the worst thing at the same time.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
What were you doing rushing out to your car fully
nude at eight fifty nine am.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
I wish I could give you a really great.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Ever, you don't even know.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
I genuinely don't know. I remember doing it. Mornings are
really frantic with my toddler, so if I run out,
I run out quick, right, So I must have been
I don't know. Did I need soap? I could have
been in the shower and then I jumped out. I don't,
I don't Why.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Would you have soap in your car?
Speaker 1 (28:10):
I don't know. I can't wait. I ran out the
other day to get a book, but there can't have
been the reason I went out. Stuck. This is strand
and look like a murder mystery.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Yeah I know, and like a who done it? Or
like a but a why dumber?
Speaker 1 (28:24):
I don't know. I must have had some Was there
a towel in the car? We're not that short of towels.
I honestly meant it for the laugh of me. I
can't actually tell you why I was doing that.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
It was a pretty amazing but shocking video to receive
at nine o'clock at a Sunday night. And like I said,
I've seen more of you now than I've ever seen
of you before, not.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
The most glittering.
Speaker 10 (28:46):
If you watch it and slow, honestly, you just see
this white, pasty body spreading out of the door, so cold.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
I think it was about three days, nothing sixty about it.
And I'm running on gravel too, so I'm like doing
that awkward kiss.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
That's all. She really must have needed something from your car,
because why else would you put yourself through it?
Speaker 1 (29:07):
I don't know. I don't know, But what I will
say is sometimes moments like this lend themselves to brilliant
phone top it. You're welcome, I thought, Well, we both thought,
why don't we open up the phones? Oh eight hundred
The hats. When were you caught out in the nuddy? Yes,
(29:28):
maybe it was on a security camera, or maybe you
got locked in somewhere in the nude. Maybe I don't know.
For whatever reason you got caught in the nuddy, there
could be a number of stories behind it. Get in touch.
Oh eight hundred the hats for a bit of fun
for a Monday. You can tax four four eight seven.
If we get you on the air, we're gonna Helpits
(29:48):
about you. When did you get caught in the nuts?
Speaker 3 (29:50):
The podcast?
Speaker 1 (29:55):
So we want to know when you got caught out
in the nuddy? Oh, eight hundred the hats you can
what eight seven? Hey, my name's Jess. I got caught
in the node my whole childhood. We lived by the
airport and planes always go over our house and are
so close. I've never been in a plane. Always thought
they can never see me. So I was always in
the pool and the node, jumping out of the water
waving my arm so they'd see me. I mean, went
(30:16):
in a plane and realized how clear it is over
our house and you could see everything. I have never
been in the pool since. Yeah, we were like, oh wow, okay,
that's a little clearer. Than I thought. A let's go
to Jennifer on one hundred hats Hi, Jennifer.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
How are you all right?
Speaker 5 (30:36):
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (30:38):
When did you get caught out in the nutty?
Speaker 5 (30:40):
Okay? So staying in a backpackers and Darwin, me and
my boyfriend decided on a deer and we're on the
third floor in our room. So it was run naked
down the hallway, down the steps and into the pool.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Yeah, as you do, having a lovely swim.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
And then Natty was about three o'clock in the morning
and that rocks the security guard and tells us, do
you realize that it's actually an offense to be naked
in public?
Speaker 2 (31:09):
And darwill O no, no, he were thinking this is
just a fun little tree wild. No your law breakers, Jennifer,
you're breaking the lawn.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
All right, Let's go to a non one hundred and
hats high and no On, Welcome to the show. Hi, Okay,
what is your story? Would you get caught out of
the nuddy?
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (31:35):
My god.
Speaker 6 (31:35):
A whole bunch of friends and myself went on a
weekend away out of town Easter weekends. It had been
a pretty big day and an even bigger night and
sort of under the influence a little bit, went up
to the motel room, which was on the second story,
and decided and my wisdom, to put on a pair
(31:56):
of bunny ears and nothing else and creep out on
this little skinny, little verandery thing that everyone's windows opened
onto and deliver easter eggs likeness easter bunny No. And
it was really narrow hit cool. But what I had
affected and was it was really well across the road
(32:16):
and people coming and going from the bar for everything,
and there was no way I could run. It's just
a narrow little legs and I was crawling really carefully.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Oh my god. Well there's a lesson there.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
I don't know what the listen is.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Don't you know what Eastboddy is?
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Niche. It's a niche lesson, but a lesson less Nonetheless.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
It really even told my kids about it.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Well, we'll keep you, we'll keep you protected. And on
your your identity is, We've got another and on on
the line is a common thing. Let's go to a
non number two. How how did you get caught out
in the nuddy?
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Hello? Hello, that's you?
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Hi?
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Hi? Is that me? Let's yes, go for it?
Speaker 9 (33:11):
Okay, okay, So one morning before work, I thought it'd
be quite cold, skip up action with my husband.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
And the bedroom yeah go you gil friend.
Speaker 9 (33:20):
Yeah, and we don't have a lock on our door.
And I had down this children and my most knowing
child walked past and I was starkers and I was like,
oh my gosh. Anyway, so then I was like, okay,
just get through week.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Go.
Speaker 6 (33:34):
So I drove them to school and all the.
Speaker 9 (33:35):
Other Oh my gosh, I've mortified my child there. We
traumatized with the risk of their life. And then I
was like, what am I going to say? I've got
to tell him some story about one door. So driving home,
I'm like, hey son, he's like yeah, it's like you
know how you saw mommy this morning, like all you know, naked.
He's like yeah, it's like, well, I decided to have
(33:56):
a shower really early. And then when I got the shower,
so I jump on. They didn't give a wik huddle
on and we realize what I see. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (34:09):
So, so, to put it bluntly, your son was traumatized
and he's been in then I.
Speaker 5 (34:16):
Didn't ask him.
Speaker 9 (34:17):
He's now like nineteen. I was like, you know, so
many years ago and he's like, Mom.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
I'm you the word the podcast. So next time next week,
Dry July kicks off, a lot of kiwis will be
getting involved, and we thought, let's get co founder of
(34:42):
Drive Dely, Britt McDonald on to have a little chat
about it. Thanks so much for coming on the show.
Speaker 7 (34:48):
Oh, thanks so much for having me.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Now how long have you been in this role because
Drive Dely has just gone from strength to strengths over
the years.
Speaker 7 (34:58):
Yeah, so I'm actually one of the co founders. So
the idea originated way back in two thousand and seven
and two thousand and eight, small group of friends realized
we needed a bit of time off of drinking the
beers and yeahut ourselves this goal from the first July
back in two thousand and seven, So see who can
last along this about a beer? And yeah, it quickly
(35:19):
became a real challenge and there's a lot of peer pressure,
and we actually had some close family members diagnosed with
cancer and yeah, I thought, well, let's turn this into
a fundraiser and it really took off from there.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Yeah, and just seems to be getting bigger and bigger
every year. Right, are you amazed at the amount of
people that are putting their hands up to take part
every year.
Speaker 7 (35:41):
Ah yeah, it's so humbling. We've already got over four
and a half thousand ki we signed up and we've
already raised over one hundred thousand for the three cancer
services we're supporting in New Zealand, which are Look Good,
Feel Better, Prostate Cancer and Z and Pink and Steel.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
What do you find the biggest motivator when people do
sign up to do Drive July. Is it you know
that it is raising funds for those who are going
through that cancer journy in New Zealand or is it
more people who just want to have a break. What
do you find it my motivator.
Speaker 7 (36:10):
Is yeah, we definitely see the biggest sense of achievement
comes from raising funds for the course and benefiting cancer patients,
their families and carers. But there's also that connection with
giving up alcohol and the health benefits that come with it,
and so people you know, have more energy, they're sleeping better,
they're clear aheaded because they're not on over on the weekends,
(36:32):
and I have improved mental health. So yeah, so it's
a real win win that we see when people take
on the challenge.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Easier see than done though, as you say, Britt, in
a country where we do enjoy from time to time
a beer or a wine or whatever it might be.
But do you find how many people do you find
get to the end of July and going, Man, I'm
going to keep going with this thing.
Speaker 7 (36:54):
Yeah, it's a large amount of Actually, over seventy five
percent of people that participate say they are going to
reduce their alcohol consumption going forward. So yeah, I have
some tremendous outcomes.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
It's it must be pretty interesting looking at the stigma
that comes with not drinking. From when you guys started
this many years ago to now, I feel like there's
so much more open conversations going on about the benefits
of sobriety, you know, the zero percenters that are available.
Do you find that that is bringing more people on
board now as well?
Speaker 7 (37:28):
Yeah, we've definitely seen that shift.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
You know.
Speaker 7 (37:30):
I remember in the first year I was going dry,
I think I could only find some beer tasting chew
income range of zero products available. So yeah, we like
to think that's a lot more available for people to
get involved, and you know, it should make it a
little bit easier for people. We do have golden tickets
as well, so if there's you know, if somebody's got
(37:53):
a wedding, anniversary or a birthday in July, people can
buy a night off of the challenge for a donation
of twenty five dollars.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Nice cool, that's really cool. So we are literally a
week away from this kicking off Drive July. It starts
next Monday. For those who are sort of sitting on
the fence, do you have any words of inspirational motivation
to sign up?
Speaker 6 (38:15):
Yeah, well, we've.
Speaker 7 (38:16):
Actually never met anyone that's regretted doing it, and you'll
learn a lot about yourself when you do participate. Look,
it's free to get involved. I head to Drive July
or code ont m zad to sign up, select one
of the fabulous cancer organizations you can fundraise for, and
then let your friends and family know you're taking on
the challenge and maybe ask them to come on and
support you.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Nice Brick, awesome, Rick. Yeah, well done, and thank you
so much for being with us today. We really appreciate
your time.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Thanks for us Cool guys, that's pretty but Donald co
founder of Drive July.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
