Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is the morning drive with Dad and Cole.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Say well to center field, that's got a chance.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Four oh seven is straight away and it's gone.

Speaker 4 (00:17):
You'reon.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Does it again?

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Poor home runs in this series and that one was
as impressive as any of them.

Speaker 5 (00:27):
The pitch and Alvarez hits it well and hits it
deep to right center field.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Back is part at the wall looking.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
Up see a leader. Second hold run of the night
for You're.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
On Alvarez and this one puts the Astros up three
to two. You're not laying waste to Rangers pitching to
two twin and the mess got him on the high
fastball and that is the ball game. The Houston Astros
scores why and the top of the eight to take

(01:02):
a lead they would not relinquish. They defeat the Rangers
tonight four to three. Astros have won five of their
last six and have guaranteed themselves a winning road trip.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Rick James once said, she's a super freak.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
The remix is he's a super freak. I'm sorry she
didn't have that music already lined on up when you
walked in the stock. I thought about it. I thought
about it, I really did.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
And with that we say away we go and welcome
on in good morning. It is the Morning Drive with
Dan and Coles Sports Talk seven ninety. You're Don Alvarez
in the last three games one, two, three, four, five
home runs in the last three games. And oh, by
the way, the Astros have one more game at Global
Life Field tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
A Saghetti on the Mounta two.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
And you got Spencer Raghedtti out there. You gotta say
his name properly. It's a Si a Saghetti. Okay, all right,
all right, Spencer A Saghetti is out there. So the Astros,
as you heard Robert Ford tell you right there, which
I mean, let's just start there. It's nice to see.
It's nice to hear excited Robert Ford again he was
dying for a while.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
He really like it.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Just you could tell, like the low moment of the season,
I would say, was that Sunday in Cincinnati where Cody
Bolton walked in around with the bases loaded. God, and
I mean Robert, it was just you could almost hear
his soul leaving his body that he was just like
this continues to happen for this team. And it's just like, Robert,

(02:34):
I feel for you, like I felt his pain in
that moment. It's one of those, and it's it's one
of those, especially in radio, it's you know, have the
audience connect with you.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
I connected with Robert.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
On On on almost a cellular level.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
At that point, it's like the reason is because of
it's the same stuff over and over again. We've been
bitching about the walks and the inability to be able
to have the lead runner just not come home when
you put him on for free and you walk in
a run, and it's like, Okay, this is the reality
that we live in. You are not a good pitching staff.

Speaker 6 (03:06):
Your offense has to get eight or nine runs just
to feel confident and bill you out of trouble. And
lo and behold, we got another guy that's a four
A player having to have meaningful moments throughout the season
early on when you're already down and now of the
count because you're under five hundred. So, I mean, that
was a perfect epitome last night. Again, the two home
runs were great. One of my favorite thing about last
night was Dan there was a reason to watch for

(03:28):
everybody involved. Everybody had a reason that you need to
be paying attention to those nine innings of work between
the Astros and the Rangers.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Let's start up with Mike Burrows haters.

Speaker 6 (03:38):
People watches Jock Peterson Fat Jock launched a meatball into
the second level of the deck, and then here were
the Twitter trolls coming on out.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Burrows is terrible. Bench him dfam.

Speaker 6 (03:50):
It's really funny that Dana Brown was in the broadcast
booth as he.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Hit that home run. He made like a noise. You
can hear it on the broadcast.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
He was just like, oh yeah, It's like, God, can
this guy like somewhat bail me out here?

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Help me out. So it's the bottom of the third ending.

Speaker 6 (04:05):
Now it's two to one, and you have everybody watching
to go ahead and just gripe about Burrows being a bust.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
He ends up delivering a performance to remember.

Speaker 6 (04:13):
And then you have the people like me, the Mike
Burrows stands who do believe that the early stage of
the year were unlucky, getting to come back on all
those Twitter trolls because of dude. Watch what happens when
you actually give him a little bit of support, great
defense behind him, a good pitch Arsenal. You're watching this
if you're an Astros fan, because you're wondering how the
hell is shake up to gram after getting shelled the
last two times that he was out there pitching at

(04:35):
this level.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
How are we so bad.

Speaker 6 (04:37):
Offensively after the last like four games averaging eight plus runs,
not even able to get past a former Cy Young
winner that spent more time on the il than the
Giants have spent on that boat back in nineteen twenty fifteen.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
I mean, like that's you're watching for that reason.

Speaker 6 (04:52):
You're watching it to see if this is going to
be the moment where it is a pitcher stool between
two guys that were very unlikely going into the year
to have a picture stool. Watch your Don Alvarez sends
one in the fourth inning to the second deck and
ask yourself, Okay, who's gonna be the other?

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Got to step on up, nobody.

Speaker 6 (05:07):
We're just gonna wait a couple more endings until Jordon
does it again. So, like everything was on display last night,
you got to win in a fashion that we've asked
for for a lot this year of being able to
play complimentary baseball, relying on your bullpen, relying on your
starting pitching, relying on your roster, relying on timely hits.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
There was a reason to be involved in.

Speaker 6 (05:25):
Now you're three games back in the AL West standings,
you're twenty five and thirty two, you come home with
a winning series before you face off against the Milwaukee
Birds to close out the month of May.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Vibes are good. I want to say they're great, but
they're good.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
M A b FA, mab FA make Astros baseball fun again.
They are making Astros baseball fun again.

Speaker 6 (05:47):
M ABFW is what they have accomplished.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Make Asher's baseball watchable.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
And they have done that, I mean, because that's that's
what I'm actually I was thinking of last night is
watching that game, and of course, I mean, you know
the way it starts off with Burrows, where especially that
first inning, it's just like, oh, we're gonna do the
bottom of the first again, Like that's that's what we're
gonna do. We're gonna fall behind and not be able
to come back in this one. But credit to him,
he finds a way out of it. And then, as

(06:15):
you mentioned, Dana Brown in the booth with the TV
guys gives up that home run in the third. But
then it was the third inning on where Mike Burrows
was damn near unhittable.

Speaker 6 (06:24):
Mike Burrows, I think send twenty batters up and down
for the rest of the game.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
If I'm take it off to that home run, it
was yeah, I mean, you know, once you start talking again,
I'll look it up from Chandler. But it was. I
know for a fact, it was eight in a row
at one point, and I think of those eight he
had even struck out three in a row.

Speaker 6 (06:43):
He finished the day with five hits allowed, the two
earned runs, only one walk, so the walker ratio was
down six strikeouts, seven ings work.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
Yeah, it was eight in a row, retired by Burrows,
who threw six innings of two run ball eighty two
pitches allowed one base runner. Since the Jock Peterson third
inning home run.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
There was a part of me that wanted him to
go off the eighth inning.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
I mean, I'm glad that he didn't because of again
just the time at all one dying nah, but like
he was in such a rhythm at that point it
felt like that the Rangers hitters were not gonna be
able to catch a.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Now this is the guy we thought we were getting.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
I mean, it's it's one of those that I mean,
we've seen a glimpse of this before of course that
she lacking that you put on the Reds in that
Friday series opener, but ever since then you just.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Really he was a big part of that too. Awesome. Yeah,
I mean seven innings at him.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
Look, I'm not asking for six or seven innings out
of him every single time, but I'm asking for six.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
But it is, I.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Mean, yes, yes, when you Hunter Brown here, Yes, even
when you have a Hunter Brown here, for sure, because
I mean, fair or not, that's why you were brought here.
You were brought here to be a guy that could
be at least somebody that can be a middle to
upper tier of your rotation. Like ideally right now, Mike

(07:53):
Burrows would be let's just split the difference of the
number four. He there, you go, number a number four
in your road. You don't like him as a three,
you'll accept him as a three, you know, you know
he kind of reminds me of and he wears the
same number. Just thinking about it last night, Charlie Morton
a little bit, a little like I get some Charlie Morton.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Charlie, that was fun and Uncle Charlie wasn't on stuck Baro.
That was just like unknown at that point. But remember
it happened here. Did he come in from Pittsburgh too?
At that time he came he came in from Pittsburgh.
He had been a little bit of a journeyman, because
I mean, Morton was one of those guys that he
had the stuff. It was either command or just being
able to trust his stuff. And then he gets with

(08:33):
pitching Yoda Brent Strom, and all of a sudden is
able to figure out, okay, if I throw this, if
I do this, then yeah, I can be a front
line starting pitcher. And then it becomes an icon for
the city. In twenty seventeen, Damn Roddy did CFM twofold?
I missed that man.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
No, he was the best I mean and I mean
and just to show you, you know, the golden era
of Astros baseball that following year where you've got Garrett
Cole here along with Justin Berlander, Charlie Morton was your
number five starter, season number five starter.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Like that's how different things used to be.

Speaker 6 (09:05):
But would you take this over the last seven games
for Mike Burrows if you knew that he had a
four point seven era a little bit higher than you want,
but still thirty six strikeouts, only thirty eight hits allowed,
twenty one runs, a whip of one point two six
and a three and three record.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
If he were a number four, start, yeah, yeah, I
was gonna say if you were a number yeah, if
he were a number four, then yes, absolutely. But I
mean the unfortunate truth is for him, I'm asking for
him to do a lot more than that.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
I mean, I would say I think it's content to
call him at this point as solid. I mean to
say you need him as your number three. I mean
because number one, I think very clearly would be Hunter
Brown when he comes back. Number one right now, Spencer Araghetty,
Number two is probably Peter Lambert's last. Spencer Araghetty, would
you say at this point one of those two is
going to come back down to reality and have a
big blow up game. So maybe you need a little

(09:52):
bit more from toutsy Emi or Mike Burrows.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Sure they need to be the number three, but you'll
take them as the four, right.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
I mean, you like what you're getting so far out
of Arraghetty, But I mean, yeah, he's.

Speaker 6 (10:02):
Going to have a bad start. He is going to happen.
He is and when that's not happening today. But it's
going to happen. Yeah, I mean, at least you hope
it doesn't. I mean, because you'd like to be able
to get out. I mean, it's it's one of those
I was talking with a buddy of mine last night,
and right now, the Astros, I believe they're three games out.
I don't have the standows in front of me, so
three three behind the Mariners, who of course have absolutely

(10:24):
the advantage over you right now for how they've played
you this year. They have still no teams in the
American League West with a record above five hundred.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
Yeah, but I mean, at least if you win the day.
I mean, if you win the day and you get
out of Arlington with a three and four, three out
of four series, and oh, by the way, you heard
Robert Ford say that you've clinched a winning road trips,
So I mean that's good enough.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
You will finish with a seven and three record.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
I mean, yeah, last time games see in These are
the type of runs that this team has to go
on in order to pull themselves out of this hole.
But you win the day and Seattle's off, you come
back home, you're two and a half games out you
want to talk about a confidence boost, I mean that's
it's it's that on Royd's, it's that on TRT, it's
that on everything.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
You want to end the season though, I mean the
month of Man on a high note though, by beating
the Milwaukee Brewers, who once again have that booty magic.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Do you watch out Milwaukee one yesterday? I mean, they're
pretty much if you the Milwaukeepers are inevitable at this
point if you really think about it, the Milwaukee Brewers
are just without the amount of success the astros have had.
They're the astros. The Milwaukee Brewers to me, like you
just look at them and you're like, how, like how
do you keep doing this? Like Christian Yelich is really
that guy for you?

Speaker 2 (11:36):
When somebody said, I think on TikTok last.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Night, Jackson Cheerio is really that guy for you.

Speaker 6 (11:40):
It's funny thinking that guy would be a Dodgers fan.
He's a breweris fan that just loves beer and beer cheese.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Because no, because if he's helping the Brewers win every
single freaking game, Like you brought it up perfectly, name
the superstar for the Milwaukee Brewers and is it William
and Jackson Cheerio, Rice.

Speaker 6 (11:57):
Terrang a guy that's known for me on contacted, or
let's it the mizz and uh oh, by the way,
last they are four and a half games over everybody
else in the division. Oh, let's go step further. You
had Dustin May. That Dustin May, who was a bum
last year in Boston, pitch a no hitter all the
way up until the bottom of the eighth inning with

(12:18):
two ounce and he gives up a bloop double and
they end up winning the game.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Plus, going to their games is like going to Worstfest
in New bron Fels because in the seventh inning ever, but.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Their ballparks sucks.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
I've never been.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
It's yeah, I think I think it's one of the
more over into ballparks in baseball.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
But I mean, after the seventh inning stretch you get
roll out the barrels, Roll out the barrels, roll out
the barrels.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Second, just enjoy yourself this morning.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
That's a great song. That's it's fun. You can't help yourself.
But even even if you're on the sober type, now
you know you're like, oh man, I feel it.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
Whysh if nothing else, get me a pretzel? Milwaukee comes
to town, you win that series. Not only would you
say you could win, because either you will split today
series or you will win the series. You could say
you won three straight series to close out the month
of May, going into the going into the off day
on June first, before walkming into Pittsburgh team that you
don't know who they truly are with reinforcements on the way,

(13:13):
like Josh Hater and potentially I would say at this point,
just based off of what we continue to hear, as
long as things go according to plan, it's not just
Josh Haterer, I think coming back, Joey Librafito I think
would be here on Monday, well.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
Lo Braffito, and then soon enough too, I mean Joe
Spotty even saying.

Speaker 6 (13:30):
The incredible resurgence of toes out too down in fourth
West bom Beach.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
I mean they think that they can be able to
simulate a rehab outing down there. So I mean as
I mean, you think that it's probably the LA series
out there, or you know, they called them. See that
would be like saying that clear Lake is Houston. No,
that's basically what Anaheim is.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
But they call themselves Anaheim. The Eventually, No, they don't
they actually go with Los Angeles?

Speaker 4 (13:58):
And I liked it when it was the the Jim
Edmonds and Tim Salmon and Garretty Anderson, you know, Angel
with the was like almost kind of like in Atlanta
A with the halo on it.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
I actually liked those logos. Thoers were good.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
All right, Steve, see you're right there working in you
want to join him seOne three, two and two five
seven ninety against someone three two one two five seven ninety.
You gonna go kind of in reverse order here because
I wanted to talk about Mike Burrows next.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
We actually already kind of did.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
Talk about him, but that guy number forty four, I mean,
what else can you say about him? I think plenty.
We'll do it next right here as we continue, It's
the Morning Drive with Dan and Cole Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (14:35):
Good Morning Drive with Dann and Cole on Sports Talk
seven ninety, home of the Strolls, Rockets and Houston's best
Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Seven one, three two on two five seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
The number two get in and we'll get it going
this morning with Steve in the Heights. Good morning, Steve, Hey, morning,
Good morning guys.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
How you doing awesome?

Speaker 8 (14:57):
Hey? Good.

Speaker 9 (14:58):
Hey, so I think clear my voice here, I think
the Astra. Well, shout out to GT again he missed
the call of a sizer anyway, Shout out to my
buddy that I work with at the kV school one
words time the I think the Astros. I think you
got one of you called it the other day, eighty
four wins for the season. I think that's that long.

(15:19):
Because I was sitting there thinking which gets them into
the playoffs? I think that number you'd be, what eighty
four and sixty sixty eight.

Speaker 6 (15:31):
Right, you'd be about eighty maybe about eighty four and
eighty or I mean eighty four and seventy.

Speaker 9 (15:35):
Eight, seventy eight for the sorry, eighty four and seventy eight, right,
I mean that's something like that. It's five six seven
games above five hundred I think wins the AL West,
and given how many, how well we're playing in that
we still are missing key players once they come back,
and as strong as the pitching starting to come together,
at this point, it's very clear we may have him

(15:57):
on of the could turn out to be one of
the best pitching staffs in the AL or even in baseball.
And I mean that teams like an over each at
this point, given the conversations we're having a couple of
weeks ago, but with Cataway, Tang, you know, my coming back,
and then Burrows yesterday and then you know, but basically
just the whole lineup, all the pitchers. I mean, we

(16:19):
definitely could have one of the best pitching staffs, and
we had the hitting. We've shown that at times. We
get everybody back. I think that it's clear that we'll
win the division now. I don't want to be active
over confident. That was so ridiculous at this point, but
I think we will have the best team, including over
the A's over the Mariners. Again, I don't I can't
call it exactly how many games about five hundred we

(16:40):
need to win more than lose at this point, obviously,
but we're only a few games back under five hundred
at this point, you know, just call it after the
second after the All Star break, we should have most
of everybody back a little bit after that. You got
a whole second half of the season. I just think
it's to me, we're getting into my first call to
you guys. Ever, I'm putting a big bad on the Astros.

(17:01):
I would actolutely put it on them to win the
divisions this point over the other teams and the and
THEO West, and even frankly not just getting into the playoffs,
but maybe even make the second or third round again
reaching a lot here reach.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
I think I appreciate it.

Speaker 9 (17:17):
I think we have the team to do it. I
guess is what I'm saying there starting to show as
long as they play good baseball, I think we have
the team to show that we can do what I'm
describing tonight.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
There you go, guys, I appreciate Steven shout out GT.
I mean, at least if nothing else to growing pains
of early on in this season could benefit you in
the long run, because I mean a lot of the
guys that you've counted on and the guys that are
still here, which oh, by the way, my uh, you know,
Jason Alexander wouldn't be here two weeks from now, but
it was. It was about two hours later was when

(17:54):
they announced, yeah, Jason Alexander is not even gonna be
here today because we're sending him down.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
But I mean, he were like.

Speaker 6 (18:00):
A badge of honor and went out a blaze. He
did he did in six settings of work and then
got told Shot.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
Hey, look, you know the first guy through the walls,
the bloodiest, and I mean and he he definitely.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
It would be a very George Sands a thing to do.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
Yeah, that's pretty much the summer of George and he
quickly was able to move on serenity. Now. But I mean,
Peter Lamberts has been somebody that's been a pleasant surprise
for you. I think, if nothing else, that's what it's been.
It's been quite a few pleasant surprises. And I mean, really,
when this team was put together this year, that's what

(18:33):
you were counting on.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
You were counting on.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, and I was more talking
about the pitching side, I mean the hitting side, and offensively, yeah, yeah,
I mean, I mean Nick Allen, Christian Vasquez, a guy
that at least offensively looked like that his better days
were behind him, and he's come in here and been
a serviceable bat. More than anything, he's been really good

(18:58):
for you behind the plate.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
I'm trying to remember.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
I think there was a situation early on in the
game with Burrows where he went out there and that's
when Burrows was able to kind of shock in the
place and get going.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
So now you give a lot of credit to Christian
Vasquez for turning around the night for Mike Burrows.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
But to Steve's points, I mean, this almost kind of
looks and I know that this is gonna be a
dated reference for a lot of Astros fans and most
of you weren't even alive yet, But the nineteen ninety
seven season is what this kind of feels like. That
year the first year that the Astros had won the
division to get back into the postseason the first time
over ten years, and it was about an eighty four

(19:36):
to eighty six win team that got there. They were
battling it pretty much all the way through with the
Pittsburgh Pirates and they were able to outlast them and
get into the postseason. So I mean, yeah, it could
be kind of like that, But I mean it is
also though too. As you heard Dana Brown say yesterday,
teams go through lolls, teams go through hot stretches.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Let this be a hot stretch here.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
Let this not only where you carry over the good
things from the road, but come home. Win a couple
of series, as a matter of fact, win all three
of them, and have a winning homestand and then all
of a sudden rate there with those nine games you
got coming up. I mean, let's let's have some fun here.
Let's let's care to dream for a little bit, then
five hundred getting back to it and over it.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Is very much a reality for you.

Speaker 6 (20:18):
Let's let's have a reminder here that Dana has also
said that teams go through their rocky periods, and we
went through ours early.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
Just don't go those second one, which is a possibility.

Speaker 10 (20:29):
Dan.

Speaker 6 (20:30):
Now it's not just for their Astros, It's it's for
every team. Sure, for the Mets, it's for the Phillies,
it's for the Cardinals. The Cubs are turning the corner
after losing nine straight. I mean, like it's for everybody.
You just got to avoid it for a second time.
The team's been able to be able to respond in
a high high volume rate. They've been showing constant, constant,
better played approach over the last four games. Last night

(20:53):
was the epitome of playing complimentary baseball. We're good pitching
and good base running and not a lot of errors
and solid defense helped you. With four to three game
you can start turning the courter. The reason why you
could believe that this Astros team could be a playoff team.
You could playoff roster at this point, in my opinion,
really has nothing to do with what they've shown you
in the turnaround. It it's the fact that you live

(21:13):
in the American League, and in the American League, eighty
four wins, you may not win the division. You can
get a wild card spot, though. I mean, there's like, again,
you the season ends today. It is it is May
twenty eighth, and we are talking about postseason baseball. Two
of the three teams that are going to be in
the postseason as a wildcard team or under five hundred.

Speaker 4 (21:34):
Who knew too? I mean, seriously, who knew that you
were going to really need Jake Myers out there in centerfield?
I think me and you did. But you look back
at it now. You won that game by one run.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
You won that game because he made a dire catch
in the first tend That's.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
That's exactly it. I mean, being able to make that
catch where off the bat you're thinking to yourself from
Jake Berger, You're just like, oh no, here comes two
more runs and you're gonna be behind three nothing, and you
got to gram on the mound. He reaches up and
catches that ball, and you're like, okay, you'll limit it
to one run. There we go. I'll take it.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
I'll take it. You damn right, you damn right.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
All right, So obviously you know our position when it
comes to this with the astros and we're talking about moves.
But could the astros be active after all this year?
One ASTROS insider seems to think, yes, they will be.
We'll discuss right here as we continue. It's the Morning
Trive with Dan and Cole Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
We don't run on algorithms.

Speaker 7 (22:36):
We run on el Tube, Durant and strouted.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Four suck seven ninety guaranteed human.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Oh be conversational, BECU. It's just like, what does that
even mean?

Speaker 4 (22:50):
It's kind of like when I first started doing CrossFit
and you know, they're trying to show me how to
do squads and they're like knees out. I'm like, I
don't know what that means, don't I don't know what
that means.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
I don't know why my ear drums is possed. Sorry,
but like it's just like, are you okay?

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Back there? But seriously, if I if I could, if
I could do it, I would do it.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
The bleeding is just coming down from sorry.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
I apologize and I apologize to the audience for for
doing that. Just a little bit of you know, pent
up aggression came out and it's I need to be better.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
I apologize. But soon enough I learned The.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
Point is is that was one of them that was
brought up to me when I first started. It'll be
more conversational, like you don't say the, you say the.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
What the hell is the difference is?

Speaker 4 (23:34):
Really, it's exactly exactly there is. There is no difference.
There is no difference whatsoever.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
I've had literally people tell me before it the way
you say the is one of the dumbest things I've
ever heard in my life. What the Ohio state? The
melting draw?

Speaker 4 (23:51):
Is it the Ohio state? Say capital T, Capitol H,
Capitally you.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Live in the southeastern region of the United States? Is
the down here?

Speaker 4 (23:59):
Dumb ass? We we we don't. We don't recognize them
Yankee folk from north of the Mason Dixon line. Especially
in football. They're killing it in football right now. A
handful of teams are CC hand a handful of.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
It's say you can't. You can't argue that with the SEC.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
Listen, it seems like you're opening the door to talk
about that a little bit.

Speaker 6 (24:21):
It's Bama, it's Georgia, it was LSU and twenty nineteen.
Every once in a while they still say relevant and
insert your fourth team here. It's Penn State, it's Ohio State,
it's Michigan, and insert your fourth team here.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
Right now, it's Indiana.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
Look as much of an LSU fan as I am,
and you know that I am is. LSU is a
microwave program. It's not necessarily where it's year in and
year out consistency winning.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
Just it. That's just it.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
You get a microwave season here and there, and then
everything else is just kind of blending in.

Speaker 6 (24:52):
Alabama's getting big ZD. That's that's pretty much it. Yeah, No,
Alabama is actually a slow cooker.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
I mean, I would say that probably when it was Nick,
it was instant pot where it was the same desired result,
but you were able to get you know, the actual
good things.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
Cracks a bunch of stuff that he threw in there,
and they always came out with the delicious process.

Speaker 4 (25:12):
The process he talks about it, the.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Process of you'd on Avarez going yard a million times.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
Well, there's not only that process but it's also too
I decided to choose violence last night. I decided to
go ahead, and you know, with jord On especially, it
was his first last night. I didn't rob anyone. I
did this from the comfort of my own seat.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Did you perform last night?

Speaker 4 (25:34):
I'm not Marty Bird, I'm not I'm not Wendy Bird,
I'm not living in the ozarks, none of those things.
But it was the trade yard On Alvarez crowd that
I decided to choose violence against, which, by the way,
it's not only the trade yord On Alvarez crowd. Rangers
fans twofold are in their feelings this morning. One of
them is that they're accusing Jordon of juicing.

Speaker 6 (25:57):
The second, yes, Garcia's law lost brother is definitely the
one on the jeers.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
And the second is that Rangers fans are starting to
mimic Astros fans last year of fire, Alex Cintron. That
lineup sucks. It's bad, Like it's one of those I
was talking with one of my cousins who does live
in Arlington and is a Rangers fan, and I just go,
how did this happen to you guys? Like seriously, like

(26:24):
that lineup was so good that World Series year and
ever since then, I mean, I guess it just goes
to show you they got absolutely hot at the right
time that.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
It shows that they sold their soul to the baseball devil.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
The bullpen was mid at best and somehow able to
just be locked down in the postseason, and then that
lineup just one through nine was unbelievable. But ever since then,
I mean, just absolute hot dog water. Oh look, look,
the injuries are part of baseball. They are, Like, you
just got to accept it. That's not the reason why
you guys suck Like.

Speaker 6 (26:56):
I don't want to hear, well, we don't have White
Langford out here playing in left field, brother, brother, it's
it's it's not that the Astros are.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
Playing Brayden Shoemake and and Nick Allen is.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Seeing meaningful daily reps.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
I don't want to Nick Allen out there being like, hey, Homer,
the other day, I got a couple of hits. In
the next game, the hell man, why why am I
drawing strays?

Speaker 6 (27:15):
Bryce Matthews went from playing left field to center field
to second base at a game, and probably that decends
those getting actual plate appearances at the major league level,
like come on, I don't want to hear your crap.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
No I don't. It's either you do it or you don't.
And they're not doing it.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
But at least when it comes to Jordan on the
trade front, I'm gonna go ahead and just make it
a show. Eat it right now. This is this is
written in stone. This isn't sharpie, it's not in pennsyil.
It cannot it cannot be taken back. Where is the
boulder that you decide to go carve this in?

Speaker 2 (27:48):
At three?

Speaker 4 (27:48):
In the if I get or we get, you get,
not us me the nice guy. If we get the
call for Jordon, in the word prospects is mentioned, you
will be hung up on immediately.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
I might.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
I might even try to find a way through our
phone system to block you. I really might, because like
on not even remotely close would I ever think about
prospects for this guy, not even close? And even somebody
last night to my point backing me up on this,
going yeah, I mean, think about all the prospects the

(28:25):
Astros traded away for, you know, Zach Grinky and and
all the other guys that you trade. How many of
those guys panned out? That's case in point right there
one and and who it's the catcher for the Detroit
Tigers who I can't even remember his name.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
No, I was gonna say, probably you would throw Joe
muscov in the conversation.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
Okay, fine, but I mean he also was a guy
that had major league experience when you traded him away.
So I mean it's yeah, he and even he had
like a really good season and hasn't been great since.
But no, you were excited to see Seth Beers down
down in Phoenix, Arizona.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
I build around Jordon Alvarez Orbyn Martin. Didn't do it
for you, guys.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
I don't move on from Jordon Alvarez. And I know
what the next thing is gonna be. Oh, Jim doesn't
spend money, Guys. I say it all the time, rules
and exceptions. Jordon Alvarez, as I mentioned, is Barry Bonds.
He is one of the best all around hitters in
Major League baseball right now. Hell, you know what, I'm
not even gonna give you the caveat of one of

(29:27):
the best. He is the best hitter in Major League
Baseball right now when you combine everything power and out.
By the way, I can't remember who had this on Twitter,
so if I see it again, I'll give proper attribution.
But after his second home run last night, there was
an Astros fan, part of Astros Twitter that shared a
picture of what was Jordan doing immediately on the iPad,
immediately looking at his swing. I loved her caption for

(29:50):
it was funny. I think it was Arlene on on
there her caption for it was funny. Oh, Jordon has
been so good he hit his second home run that
we'll give him some iPad time.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Now three twelve batting average, one point eight five ops,
twenty home runs, thirty nine RBI, and he is tied
for the American League League and home runs.

Speaker 6 (30:11):
We're going into this series, just this series, which, by
the way, there's still is one more game left in
the series. He was only at fifteen long balls. He
is at five in the last twenty seven innings, including
back to back days of multi home run outings. And
you won one of your games simply because of forty
fours on your roster. You look, the reality is that

(30:33):
there's gonna be the conversation of trading you on Alvagez
until there's a deal done. There is it just is
gonna happen that way. You're not training it for prospects though,
Like that's that's the that's the.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Caveat it and all.

Speaker 6 (30:43):
If you want to go ahead and bring on up that, yes,
Jim Crane does not want to spend lucrative money and
give out a massive extension to yourd on I can
understand where you come from because if he doesn't like
to do that, but you're not giving him up for
a bunch of guys that you have unknown with unten potential.
You're giving them up for proven commodities. You're giving him
up for something that is going to help your team

(31:05):
stay competitive.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
And even still, what is coming on in that's going to.

Speaker 6 (31:09):
Make your team competitive, Like the report that came on
out about Tampa Bay a few months like a few
weeks ago that they were in on the show Hao
tani deal with the Los Angeles Angels and they were
gonna go Junior Camaniaro.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
It's so funny that that comes.

Speaker 6 (31:21):
Out now two years after they try to get that
deal done. Like you hear it all the time, they
weren't really gonna do that, like like every single like
my favorite thing I heard all off season was like
the Pittsburgh Pirates saying, well they were in on the
college forward deal.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
Well, they were in on trading for this picture. Had
interest they had It was a nick special baseball executive.
It was a nick Case offensive line specialty right there.
They had interests like you you see teams do that
with the Astros. You can have interest in trading for anybody,
or trading anybody. Is anybody coming on in that is

(31:57):
going to be as impactful as you're on Avarus. No,
that's why you don't try it.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
Just The only difference for Nick is if he was
a baseball executive, he'd have to start wearing quarter zips
as opposed to the vests that he likes to wear.
He still wears quarterships, He does wear quarter zips, but
the vest is mostly his go to move.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
I think in the honest conversation, though, you have to
have right now when it comes to you Ward on Avarez,
would you rather because there's a lot of guys that
you could trade and you would have buyers remorse if
you just let them walk out the door. I don't
know if I could trade you were on Avarez for anything.
I'd much rather take the risk of trying and sign
him long term.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (32:30):
I mean, like I'm sorry, Like I understand Hunter and Brown,
Jeremy pana Eak Parades, any one of these guys. If
you know that they're not gonna have extensions, you got
to go ahead and have an honest conversation about moving
them before it's too late. I'm wanting to do what
the Angels did, try to take the risk when it
comes to Chohanatani and sign him.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
I am what did I say?

Speaker 6 (32:53):
You say a lot of things every day between the
hours of six of ten, So make it a little
bit less.

Speaker 4 (32:57):
Rules and exceptions, exceptions. All right, we can definitely, but
you can take me there. We'll get you there. It
is the Morning Drive with Dan and Cole Sports Talk
seven ninety. Do it every time this morning? Uh see,
I did it again. I mean just I I speak
for a living. This is pathetic. We do it every

(33:17):
morning at this time. We jump around in today, we
jump around with hey, he's a good guy, a secession
plan and we actually are better. All three of those
coming your way right here. As we continue, It's the
Morning Drive with Dan and Cole Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (33:32):
They are on Morning Drive. Here's Dan Matthews and Cole Thompson.

Speaker 4 (33:40):
Not today, not today, I got I got too much today.
I don't think I can make tomorrow, but I think
I am gonna get out there next week.

Speaker 2 (33:45):
Thank tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Tomorrow I've got well, shout out, sweat house, gonna gonna
go do the the sauna, cold plunge, all that stuff.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
And then there's nothing going on tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
But then I've got astros, pre and post do what
They're not open tomorrow? What sweat House?

Speaker 2 (34:02):
No, the Texans Public. Oh okay, you couldn't go, no
matter what. No, he's going.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
So whenever the next toldow, no, it's funny you say that.
We'll jump around here in just a second. It's funny
you say that. So we used to actually be able
to watch the full practice the media did, and I
remembered and shout out Kevin Cooper, Zach Emmon's all, all
the crew that used to be the PR staff over

(34:28):
there there, Dan, because I mean, it was just when
I was getting into the business, and fans would legit
show up and they'd be walking out onto the practice
field there over at Reliant Park, and Cooper somebody would
be like, hey, can I help you, And they'd be
like oh, I'm here to watch practice. They're like, it's
close practice. You can't And I remember one guy actually

(34:48):
persisted and goes, who are all these people? It's like media, bingo, bingo, media. Yeah,
you can't just show up, buddy. It happened.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
It happened multiple times. IM sure, I'm gonna get a
text for real Texans insiders. It happened multiple times.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
I'm sure, Like I said, Coop's gonna text and be like, yeah,
it happened more than you would think.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
I'm very excited for the four hour conversation of a
riveting information I'll ge from mister Texan later today.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
Oh I can't wait. Now, I'll tell you what. From
ten to two, it's it's gonna be wall to wall.
It's gonna be every positional breakdown it is going to be.
I mean, just you must know who is the third street,
your texting sleepers, the backup long snapper man.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
He looked really good on those punts.

Speaker 11 (35:30):
We have a punters bathsold ladies and gentlemen. All of
the winds between Kai Krueger and this other undrafted dude
that nobody remembers his name because if he's a freaking punter,
the punters aren't important.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
That's one of those that you know, Omar and Lindsay
and the crew who are the media relations staff. Now,
as soon as you get out there, they hand you
a roster. That's one of those right there you to
use pointed out that you have to look down at
the roster really quick and be like, yeah, this other punter,
his name is Jack stone House. I knew that I
did that on pres I figured you were saying bagging us.
It's all good, all right, so let's jump around, all right.

(36:06):
So Victor wembin Yama, some could say that he was
a sore loser after Game five.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
He poured John. He pulled a John Torterella.

Speaker 4 (36:14):
He did, he pull He pulled it towards and decided
to say, yeah, I'm not talking to the media, and uh,
the NBA let him off the hook. And according to
reports that a huge reason why he avoided the twenty
five thousand dollars fine uh is that he was voted
for the Magic Johnson Award, which is basically the good

(36:35):
Guy Award that's given out by the Pro Basketball Writers
Association for players being accommodating to the media.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
You know what I'm gonna say, right, please, Chris Haynes, No, trivially,
you know what I'm gonna say, I don't. I'm waiting
to hear. Spider Man means everyone gets one. He's a
good guy. He's been nothing but kind of the media.
I want to have a crappy ad.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
Dude, I would say it for them. I guess what,
I would say it. For the most part, you are
right on that. I mean, it is you know, you
can have a human moment. But then it's like also,
like if they lose tonight, you can't do the I'm
not talking no bs, dude. You want the best players
on this team, and even I mean I would even
push back on that coal. I mean, if it's back
on what if it's Keldon Johnson or somebody like that,

(37:23):
If it's uh Harper, then I would say, Okay, that's fine.
You're the face of the franchise, the face of the franchise.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Body gets one.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
The face of the franchise needs to be made of it.
He needs to make himself available everybody.

Speaker 6 (37:34):
Joe Mixon at one point got the Good Guy Award
for the Texans, and after a divisional round loss, he
didn't speak of the media.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
I mean he that's is the bottom line. It happens.

Speaker 6 (37:44):
There are days where they say I'll talk to you
tomorrow and they do so.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
Now again he did do.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
That, and and then that's right when they were doing
the locker clean out, he was. He was in front
of his locker.

Speaker 6 (37:55):
And he was very he was very proactively honest, and
he gave fifteen minutes conversation.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Did not dodge any questions. He just said in that moment,
not doing questions right now, let me alone. That's where
everybody gets one.

Speaker 4 (38:07):
Okay, all right, all right, I'll back off, Greg.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (38:11):
By the way, who the hell is asking Keldon Johnson
about a playoff loss?

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Where does he come in the pecking order of guys?

Speaker 4 (38:18):
I gotta get down to there's only really twelve players
to choose from. So I mean, that's the thing with
covering basketball is that it's a smaller locker room.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
So would you go with Hammer Champenny first in a conversation?

Speaker 4 (38:30):
Probably Keldon Johnson.

Speaker 6 (38:31):
Okay, so we're saying at least five, then he's fit
in the pecking order. Keldon Johnson, Yeah, maybe so.

Speaker 4 (38:39):
And this is something that we can carry over in
the later in the show because the SEC spring meetings
are happening. Greg Sankie says that the SEC is the
best conference by far. Despite three straight national championship wins
by the Big.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
Ten, it does just mean more than the SEC.

Speaker 4 (38:52):
Well, I mean, it is something like I said, I
do want to talk about this little the least.

Speaker 6 (38:56):
You can say that in the Southeastern Conference of the
United States America, we are seeing games be played not
in Los Angeles and masquerading it as the Big.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
Ten's true, It's true. At least you're in this part
of the country. Hey, I know we joked about it,
but I mean, this really is an open ended question.
What can you get from this time of the year
in the NFL. We'll discuss right here as we continue.
It is the Morning Drive with Dan and Cole. Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
AB Houston atv HD two Houston.

Speaker 7 (39:25):
The Astros as the Rockets, Rockets Basketball, your home for
your home teams. This is Sports Talk seven ninety and
iHeartRadio station Guaranteed Human. This is the Morning Drive with
Dad and Cole.

Speaker 4 (39:49):
The Astros went in last night four to three over
the Rangers, and they're going to go for a series
win tonight at six o'clock. Astros on deck coming away right,
here's Sports Talk seven ninety and be a Western Conference
Finals game six tonight in San Antonio with the thunder
in front of the Spurs three to two in the
series and the Texans gonna be back out on the
practice field for OTAs. Seven three, two five, seven ninety

(40:13):
is the number to get in. You're gonna be out
there later this morning. It's gonna be the Colon WEX
show walking out with WEX. It's gonna have special guest
appearance from my co host every single week day, Thomas.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
Actually, they just throw me in his videos.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
Now, I'm not saying I'm just saying that. You about
WEX now throwing in Cole Thompson, Well, I mean, I'm
guessing they probably he'll be like, am I.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
A feature like Pitbull on most music in the two thousands?

Speaker 4 (40:34):
What as you guys are walking out into the parking
lot right over there at the practice facility off Merworth
or whatever that street is.

Speaker 2 (40:41):
That's the cross right there, TRIPLEI. What's the best song
on Drake's new album with a feature? Because that's gonna
be me the feature guy?

Speaker 7 (40:47):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (40:49):
Uh stfu janis uh Yeah?

Speaker 12 (40:52):
I don't think that's a I don't think I think
that's a single though, Yeah, so single album.

Speaker 4 (40:58):
I apologize. I apologize. I haven't done a deep dive
into the three albums released by Drake. I apologize. But anyway,
I'm assuming as you're walking out, it's going to be
something along the lines of, hey, you want to do
a quick video.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
Probably not, I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (41:13):
It's and it is one of those two where it's
been after games, Hey man, you want to do a video?
Uh yeah, I'm actually gonna gonna do this one myself.
As I'm walking out, I'm like, so you asked him
to do a video? I asked once and then I realized.
I was like, I was like, you know what, I
can't deal.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
With your heartbrook Ins today. Times I did, I couldn't.
I couldn't stomach the rejection. So then I just said, okay,
you know what, I'll just better better, better to be asked,
not to be rejected.

Speaker 6 (41:43):
Manny and Cole just just wall about me for four
hours a day. I can't have Wex doing it all
a sudden.

Speaker 9 (41:48):
That's it. That's it.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
I've got to get a break somewhere. So you know,
it's all good. It's it's it's his content. He's welcome
to do with it whatever he wants. But I I
just I have a hunch that as you guys are
walking out, it's going to be do a quick video.

Speaker 6 (42:01):
I have a hunch that I'm going to be very
excited to see all the wonders of what is standing
in position and taking a step to the left and
then one to the right, and then overreacting to Marylin
Klein making a one handed grab against whoever is going
to be the only thing the third stirring defensive back
that's getting cut.

Speaker 4 (42:20):
Now on the wayne handed catch is going to happen
like the second or third day of training camp, where
you know, you've got all the fans underneath the awning
over there and everybody's excited, and you know, the fans
go crazy whenever it's a deep bomb caught by Nicocollins
and then he stops running about thirty yards shore of
the end zone, and it's.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
Just like, oh man, it's gonna be so awesome to
see that this year.

Speaker 6 (42:40):
By the way, I make fun of the OTAs because
of the overreactions we get, but it is cool because
if it does mean the football's right around the court.

Speaker 2 (42:47):
It's an attendance. That's all it is.

Speaker 4 (42:49):
No, it is, it's attendance. It's one of those. The
only thing that you can somewhat glean is what a
lean is for their offensive line.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
That's about it. But like again, I.

Speaker 6 (43:02):
Understand the reasoning behind people wanting to overreact to every
little detail because a football reigned supreme in this country.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
It just does.

Speaker 6 (43:10):
It's not a Texas thing, it's not a Houston thing.
It is a general consensus. Football is the number one space,
and especially the NFL, and you always want to have
some positive traction surrounding the sport.

Speaker 2 (43:22):
And there's storylines to follow up here. What does CJ.

Speaker 6 (43:24):
Stroud look like in year two of the offense? And
how much more polish is he gonna be making some throws?
What are we seeing from this offensive line? Who is
your starting center? How much better is this defense going
to look like against players and non pads? Is arion
Terrors are gonna be the franchise left tackle? Like I
get it, Like there's reasons to be excited. I'm just saying,
pump the brakes until you gets to week one. When

(43:44):
it comes to overreactions, let's.

Speaker 4 (43:46):
Just see that's gonna be one of those is either
it's gonna be like a seven on seven or something
like that, and one of two things is gonna happen
with CJ. He's gonna throw an interception or he's gonna
overthrow someone like for a crossing route. And then as
soon as that's tweeted out there, then you're gonna have
the people who aren't out there being like of course,
see like that's what ot AS is. Basically, it's a

(44:09):
reaction time.

Speaker 6 (44:11):
It's it's I will I promise you there will be
a conversation had on this on this station at some
point in the next forty eight hours of a CJ
stroup pick is he the guy here?

Speaker 4 (44:22):
Here's what I want to see?

Speaker 2 (44:23):
Is he the right answer? Here's what I want to see.

Speaker 4 (44:25):
What is Hey, ladies and gentlemen, I've got I've got
my own tripod, Cole I can I can give you
my own tripod. I need you doing the stand up
with now the soon to be renamed Reliant Stadium in
the background, and I and I need a full one
minute breakdown after every single practice that the media is
out there. That's that's that's what I need.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
That's why you get walking out with wax. It's a formative.

Speaker 4 (44:50):
Of one. He's putting the bag in the car, he's
getting into the car. Hey, trust me, I'm I'm fully away.

Speaker 6 (44:56):
Where is exceptional work? Guys, I'm telling you give him
a follow on Twitter. Adam Wexler, Adam J. Wex I
think it is actually he. I mean Adam, you, You
and you and wex are are Texans version of Adam J.
Wexler of rapaport and schefter. But give him a fall
because he does give you really good intel about what's
being said at the press conference, conversations being had about

(45:18):
players and what is being witnessed.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
And if you want to give me a follow up,
mister coletomps you.

Speaker 4 (45:21):
You guys are the Texans insiders. It's it's it's not
the guy that's sister Texan.

Speaker 2 (45:25):
He sits right here from Tennant.

Speaker 4 (45:27):
Don't don't call him that. If anything, he's more peach
basket than he is mister Texan. No, he's actually mister Boise.
You can't be miss boy. C is how you're supposed
to say, boy, No, I'm not doing It's like the
the conversation because my cousin used to live up there,
and I remember she used to say it that way,
and I'm like, why do you keep saying it that way?
And then I listened to Kellen Moore funny enough, pardon

(45:48):
my take, that's one, and he was he was saying
it that way too, and I go, oh, they really
do say it that way.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 6 (45:56):
I will say there is one city that I do
think there's a proper way say it, and people put
it all the time.

Speaker 4 (46:01):
Houston.

Speaker 2 (46:02):
No Clemson. Oh yeah, it's the p with the with
the PS. The PS is Clemson not Clemson.

Speaker 9 (46:09):
No.

Speaker 2 (46:09):
I hate the way that they say that, Clemson Clempson.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
But I mean, at least, like I said with with
ot as, it's who's out there, Like I mean, it
is going to be interesting to see, all right?

Speaker 2 (46:24):
Is is Tank Dell out there? Who's wearing number one? Now?

Speaker 4 (46:26):
By the way, is is Tank Dell actually out there?
Because I mean, they've been pretty cryptic about whether or
not he he would be out there going through drills,
and I've said it, I think that he will go
through them. I don't know if he's going to do
eleven on eleven and things like that, but he will
do at least the individual drills and things like that.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
So just South Park meme of somebody holding a Texas
Rangers doll and showing to show me on the doll
where you were not out?

Speaker 4 (46:54):
Was I tagged in that? No?

Speaker 6 (46:55):
Damn again. I want to know five things about the
Texas real quick. Here's what I hope to see by
the end of next week before I leave for the
next five days. Number One, I want to know who's
your starting center. I want to see if Kielan Rutledge
is going to be a part of that first line
or is it going to be working with the second line.
Number two, what's Tank Dell's availability? Because if I do
think that you are looking at the two younger guys

(47:15):
and Jalen Nolan Jaden Higgins and believe to a certain
degree we drafted them to become factors for our passing game, well,
Tank Dell is probably the biggest factor on derailing or
holding off on the development of both Higgins and Nol
to a certain degree, because of you think that he
is a difference maker. If he's not out there, you

(47:36):
have to act like that your offense is going to
be functioning without him.

Speaker 2 (47:39):
So I want to see that.

Speaker 6 (47:40):
Number three, what does David Montgomery look like behind a
revamped offensive line? Because the run game was such a
liability at times last season that there was a lot
of pressure on CJ.

Speaker 2 (47:50):
Strow to have to deliver fair or unfair.

Speaker 6 (47:52):
Not having a sufficient run game ultimately led to a
lackluster offense in first year offense coordinators personnel Nick Hayley
Unit number four. What does Nick Gayley do to change
some things up? You can't run it back with the
same offense personnel as you did last season. If you do,
it's still gonna be a middling crew that doesn't find
a way to be successful inside of the red zone
and relying heavily on fifteen rather than seven to get

(48:14):
your points.

Speaker 2 (48:15):
You gotta be more creative. You have a bigger personnel.

Speaker 6 (48:18):
You feel like that you have the offensive linemen that
are going to give you a better push up front
to really enhance that offense that Nic Cassario and Tomiko
Ryans thought they were getting when they hired him away
from Los Angeles. And number five, who's going to be
the next breakout starring this defense? Because Lo and Behold
every single year it's somebody that Demiko Ryans finds if
I find out those five things, I think that you're

(48:38):
in a good spot.

Speaker 4 (48:39):
Okay, that's fair, I mean I and again though, I mean,
it is one of those where you have to remember,
this is the time of year where there's there's no
install there's there's no game planning, there's nothing like that.
I mean, this is very much just fundamental as fundamentals
can be, and at least for most people, that's boring.
I mean, I know that whenever I've been out of

(48:59):
oh in mini camps, as I've gotten now, when I
was younger, I did buy into all of the hype
and all of these other things. But now it's just
more or less of hey are they here, Oh, they're
not here? Like I mean, the one time that the
Astros or the Astros the Texans somewhat had controversy during OTAs,
the two day holdout by Andre Johnson, remember that for

(49:22):
two days held out for two days. I remember, we
get out there and I'm like, hey, am I crazy?
Or is eighty not out here? And they're like, no,
he's not. And then afterwards, of course Kubiak was asked
about it and his response to John McLain was it's voluntary?

Speaker 2 (49:37):
John, Oh, CJ. Stroud?

Speaker 4 (49:39):
Are we going to see a whole hot situation two
point zero today? You love to see We would have
heard it by now. Love to see Kubiak out there,
you know, just just out of practice. Hey, coach, Hey, guys,
what's going on?

Speaker 2 (49:50):
Like we would have heard by now CJ. Stroud was
gonna be holding out.

Speaker 4 (49:55):
I mean it would be something after all of the Hey,
CJ's clear up his diet. Hey, he's been absolutely in
the lab working out. Oh yeah, he's holding out. Well,
he did clear up, He cleared up a lot of things.
He did all the right things in the offseason. It
just also led to now now I almost want to
have my notifications on for certain people because I know

(50:17):
that that's coming today.

Speaker 2 (50:19):
I know that that's coming.

Speaker 4 (50:20):
Oh yeah. CJ. Stroud is in the best shape he's
ever been in his That's it's the probably is it's
the same deal when we get to West Palm Beach.
Every single player, Oh yeah, the best shape I've ever
been in. Alex Bragman a couple of years ago, I
feel like I'm gonna have the best season of my career.
Oh god, Like I.

Speaker 2 (50:39):
Mean, he kind of needs to have the best season
of his career. Let's be real.

Speaker 4 (50:41):
Can we just play games already and just like get
into the season.

Speaker 2 (50:45):
Well, that means baseball season's at an end.

Speaker 4 (50:48):
Uh Well, I mean if baseball season goes the way
it's supposed to go, then I mean you look at
it the other way where you're like, no, football season's
almost over. Like I remember World Series runs where finally
you could start getting the football and you're like, we're
in week eight. This thing's damn near done. We ga,
it's like the midway point of the year. I mean
college football, for example, say college that we're talking about

(51:10):
the NFL. Yeah, like college football, it's like you got
a handful of games left. You're like, oh, you got November.
It's like I basically missed my Saturday.

Speaker 2 (51:17):
You've got the best part of November. Though. That's like
the usual standouts part of the sport.

Speaker 4 (51:21):
I get it, you know.

Speaker 2 (51:22):
Unfortunately, now when you move to a twenty fourteen playoff,
nobody cares because the game doesn't matter anymore.

Speaker 4 (51:26):
True, seems like that's my.

Speaker 6 (51:28):
Stands on this, guys. I'm serious. If you think that
the twenty fourteen playoff is smart you're an idiot.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
Oh, don't don't worry.

Speaker 4 (51:34):
Don't worry.

Speaker 2 (51:36):
Seven ninety. You want to call in and explain to
me why you think a twenty fourteen playoff is good
for the sport, I gladly will hang up on your ass.
Like Dan, Well, if you talk about ord On Alvarez
getting traded, no, I gave you a stipulation. I gave
you a stipulation for ord On Alvarez.

Speaker 4 (51:49):
With with it, I said, if you throw prospects at me,
if you throw prospects at me, I'm hanging up on you.

Speaker 2 (51:54):
If you mentioned that twenty fourteen playoff is good for
the sport, I'm blocking you. There you go, all right,
See we've all we've all got our our no goes.
That's fine, I guess because you're idiots. I don't deal
with idiots.

Speaker 4 (52:03):
I'm smart when it comes to the Rockets. They've teased
something that I think's got us all excited. The only
response I have is pretty simple, and we'll have that
for you next right here. As we continue, it is
the Morning Drive with Dan and Cole. Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (52:20):
Back to the Morning Drive. Here's Dan Matthews and Cole Thompson.

Speaker 4 (52:26):
Do you do it four times? Nah?

Speaker 2 (52:28):
Twice time?

Speaker 4 (52:31):
I think, Yeah, I think Tripley's onto something. The over
under would be the line of two and a half,
right now, are you're taking the under the over?

Speaker 2 (52:40):
I'm gonna take the under. I think I think it
would probably be two if he gets if he gets
a solo shot home run.

Speaker 6 (52:47):
But again, let's say Jeremy pang It gets it gets
hit by pitch, because that's a costume at this point. Yeah,
and then Jordan decides to crank one to the third
deck that doesn't exist out and whatever you want to
call that piece of crap park.

Speaker 2 (52:59):
Anyways, it is actually.

Speaker 4 (53:01):
Unpopular, literally just it's literally just actually I actually think
it is on the inside of the outside. The outside
leaves a little let to be desired, but I mean
it's the outside of the park.

Speaker 2 (53:13):
It doesn't really matter. I looks like a weaber grill.
I actually do like globe light field.

Speaker 6 (53:19):
Anyway, So the third level of the park, do you
just say, at this point, we're taking him out of
the game.

Speaker 2 (53:24):
You intentionally walk in the rest.

Speaker 4 (53:25):
Of the day so you can't kiss that.

Speaker 8 (53:27):
What good?

Speaker 4 (53:28):
There you go, so you didn't do that, Happy Robert Ford,
I love happy, Robert Ford. It's been fun. I mean
that was that was prime playoffs Robert Ford right there.
I mean at least the first inning, because I'm assuming
that Perettis will be back in the lineup. So if
Evaldi is able to get both Payania and Perettis, so

(53:48):
it's two out and then Jordan comes up and he
gets he gets intentionally walked. So you think he does
get intentionally absolutely, because it'd be like, why why do
I want to run the risk of this guy making
it one nothing when I've got two outs when I
could just go face Christian Walker?

Speaker 2 (54:02):
Okay, so his parades is gonna say in the two
hole then puh, My guess is, yeah, I don't know.
Last night you saw him hit two more home runs
in the two hole. You weard on I want to
put him back there. Oh it's the thing too. So again,
let's say they stop Ord on second.

Speaker 9 (54:16):
What are you doing?

Speaker 4 (54:16):
Let's say he just crisped somebody out there that's gonna
see you solo home runs. Imagine if he was hitting third,
who says that the guys in front of him would
get on.

Speaker 6 (54:24):
He hits a two run bomb that goes like five
hundred and twenty five feet because it is inevitable that
he will hit the longest time running baseball this year.
Do you just intentionally walk on the rest of the game,
because that would be three at bats probably. So that's
why the line said at two and a half, Yeah,
I am taking the over. I am saying he will
reach base four times tonight. Three of them will come
on intentional walk pitches. They will hold up the four

(54:46):
and say, don't even put your stuff on.

Speaker 2 (54:47):
See, I'm glad that they don't.

Speaker 6 (54:48):
Don't tell Joe a spot out across the way. Hey,
he doesn't even need to go ahead and grab the bat.
We're just gonna put him on first.

Speaker 4 (54:53):
I'm just I'm glad they don't waste our time with
that anymore of Hey, you know you gotta do the
intentional walk.

Speaker 2 (54:58):
I'm just glad they don't. It's nice. It's nice, all right.

Speaker 4 (55:01):
Uh So, Yeah, the Astros win last night for three
over the Rangers, and they're going to try to go
for said series win tonight, six o'clock. Astros on deck
for that nb A Western Conference Finals Game six in
San Antonio. Okay, See, I think San Antonio wins tonight.
I think it's I think it's okay, So you think okay,

(55:21):
See just closes it out. I'm a triple on this one.
I think it's gonna be who hits the double double?

Speaker 2 (55:26):
Dude, it can't can't it can't be.

Speaker 12 (55:30):
SGM saying wimb Bully and Ship it's about to have
a night tonight.

Speaker 2 (55:39):
Well, you're saying check, I would say.

Speaker 4 (55:41):
I would say in game five though, that was when
Mark Dangnall and uh okay See finally switched it up,
doing what I thought they should have been doing all along.
And that's Hartenstein. Yes, Hartenstein on him, and Hartenstein just
bullied him.

Speaker 2 (55:56):
That's what he did. I mean, that's why he got
so pissed.

Speaker 4 (55:59):
I got two.

Speaker 2 (56:00):
He is in the college kid Jared McCain making a
couple of big time threes. He's gonna fish with thirty.
We're gonna have Bismack Byambo or one of the.

Speaker 4 (56:08):
It was Miles, Yeah, Mason TikTok legend, Jared McCain's gonna.

Speaker 2 (56:11):
Drop a double play a duke?

Speaker 4 (56:12):
Why am I?

Speaker 9 (56:12):
Why?

Speaker 4 (56:13):
Why am I forgetting his name right now? I don't know.
There's a lot of people that played the duke. He
came into the game for the Spurs the other night.
One he had he had a he had a brother
that played there at Duke with him.

Speaker 2 (56:22):
Again.

Speaker 4 (56:22):
Pick one, plumbley, plumbley. It was I think Mason Mason, Yeah,
Mason yeah. And Bismack Biyombo and that crew. They're they're
the stay ready crew for the Spurs and they were
out there the other night back checking people who who
who got put on his ass for uh for okay
scene and uh it was late in the game. Got

(56:44):
hurt trying to remember.

Speaker 2 (56:46):
Wasn't was it?

Speaker 4 (56:47):
No, it wasn't Dort, although Dort also Dort likes to
h to play a little dirty as well. This game's
six kids who cares well? I mean San Antonio does,
because there's seasons on your line. If you're I'm a
city who cares well?

Speaker 2 (57:02):
Tripoline? Has he dropped? Does Caruso drop more than twenty tonight?
Get twenty two in his last game? I can't see
that happening at Cruso's legit, man, I mean that guy
he's not white, mam, but what is he?

Speaker 4 (57:19):
White pigeon pushing cameras away with the uh with the headband,
he's uh, he's a college game day guest picker Alex
Caruso too, when when Johnny Manziel said he I'm sorry,
I'm sick. Oh yeah, you were out to fight the
night before, So I wonder what could have happened Johnny,

(57:39):
But he got sick, you know it, It's just it happens.
What are you gonna do? It's kind of like the
I got hacked. Well, it happens. Yeah, it is Mason Plumley,
by the way, So I guess soon enough we're gonna
get new rockets Unis and uh, it seems like they're
teasing us with ketchup and mustard. That's a possibility, So
I mean, at least when it comes to this, all

(58:00):
I will say is please don't gaslight us.

Speaker 2 (58:04):
That's all I ask. Please don't gaslight us.

Speaker 4 (58:06):
And like where maybe we get one jersey that's got
like a sliver of the mustard in it. Like the
bram Stoker's Dracula logo is tired. It's done, like it
almost looks like a corporation's logo for a company. Like
it's just like, have something that's a little bit more
h town. You went bram Stoker with this one. That's

(58:27):
what the person who designed it was the same person
that did Bram Stoker's Dracula. Really yeah, when when they
got to Toyota Center and they and they redid the
Rocket's logo and the lettering and all of that, it's
the same person that did it.

Speaker 6 (58:40):
They hired a guy from Hollywood to do an NBA logo,
go yeah, yeah, and do you go back to the
old look with the basketball though I've been told, and
I can't confirm if this is actually true, but I've
been told that they don't even own that logo anymore
that Mitchell and Nest does. Really, so it's basically like
a hastage situation where we have the with the struggles.

Speaker 4 (59:03):
Well, what I think you could do is I mean,
I mean you were talking about this a little bit
during the break, is that it's not all the way
back to it. But like the Astros, for example, when
they went back to orange and blue, it's not all
the way to what the Tequila Sunrise and all of
the other jerseys were. But I mean, at least, if
nothing else, it's back to what you used to look like.

(59:24):
The Pistons have done it too, I mean Detroit went
back to the the red, white and blue after they
had the teal and the the the Piston horse on
there with the actual Pistons on it.

Speaker 2 (59:37):
Yeah, badass one. That was one of my favorite nineties logos.

Speaker 4 (59:41):
It was it was true nineties.

Speaker 11 (59:43):
It was.

Speaker 4 (59:43):
But then they decided, hey, let's go back to red,
white and blue, and then they won a world title.
What is the best nineties basketball logo? Cel Sis, you
think it is the Celtics with the lebra coron.

Speaker 2 (59:52):
I love the leperkayn. The Leprechaun is one. I know
a lot of people hate the purple Dinosaur. For the
two Toronto Raptors, I love it. I actually liked I
love the Toronto Raptors actually, even.

Speaker 4 (01:00:04):
Though I hated the team and their fans, I actually
like the Jazz with the Snow Mountain, with the Snow Mountains,
I actually actually like the Jazz.

Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
I felt like for the color scheme of what you
want in the nineties and then pop enough.

Speaker 4 (01:00:18):
I mean, you know, it's just kind of like a
roll like light blue with like kind of like Columbia blue.

Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
And they're a little bit.

Speaker 6 (01:00:25):
Particular word for it. I don't know the colors are blue.
I know it's blue and blue, light blue, dark blue.
I kind of like those very light blue very dark blue.

Speaker 4 (01:00:33):
If Seattle gets basketball again and they can be the
SuperSonics again.

Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
What the one with this it was a good day
Lakers beat the super Sonics.

Speaker 6 (01:00:41):
You mean the one where it's the Sears Tower or
whatever the holiday is at the Space Space that one
Seris Tower Chicago.

Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
Yeah, now it's willis No, it is not. It is
the serious tower until at the end of time.

Speaker 6 (01:00:52):
I just all I know is next it is Heinz Field,
until the end of time gets a certain degree that.

Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
You just call it what it is Mike Staples Center
as opposed to cry. One thing I do know, though,
is if I ever go back to Chicago, I will
never get in that glass box.

Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
Why it's fun? No, what it's fun?

Speaker 4 (01:01:09):
Only the Spider Man meme. As you said, it only
takes one. It only takes one for the bottom of
that thing to pop out. And then guess what you
would be hundreds of stories. You would become international news.

Speaker 13 (01:01:23):
Dan.

Speaker 4 (01:01:23):
That's the way that I fear my life is going
to end, either that way or in the middle of
the ocean.

Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Think about this, if you ended up falling through the
show in the station, would get so many ratings because
they want to.

Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
Know where this guy came from. You're martyring me for
your ratings.

Speaker 6 (01:01:39):
Though, Hey listen, the patrons saying of Clutch is yourd
on alverage. You can be the patron saying SPORTSOX seven.
I we do this in Dan's honor. The studios are
named after me. We're full Jah macclain Media Media Wall
of Fame, and that that's it. I I demand for
lettering in here. If indeed I ever did meet Sears Tower,

(01:02:00):
only if it's at the Sears Tower.

Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
I mean, I would think that it's gotta be some
way like that.

Speaker 6 (01:02:04):
If you capsized like in the movie Poseidon, no no, no,
no luttering. But if the Sears Tower is involved, Dan,
welcome to the Hall of Fame here at Iheartman.

Speaker 4 (01:02:12):
Or if I'm maroon like h like Tom Hanks and
castaway and then years later you guys find out I'm
still alive. Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
He was a UPS driver in that, wasn't he? Because uh,
you know who made a cameo in that movie Arthur
Smith's dad. I forgot he was the one that found
he founded fed X. Get him in UPS Mixed Up.
When Arthur Smith had first started coaching. Somebody had joked
with them and said, hey, is your dad gonna buy
the team? And somebody was like, what are they talking about?

(01:02:41):
And then he was just like, oh, nothing, they're just talking.
And then they found out later like, oh, his dad
is the CEO of fed X. I honestly thought dad
was gonna buy the team and make him the head coach. No,
that would have been, that could have been. He's an
alright guy.

Speaker 4 (01:02:56):
But like there are also times too where it's he
he goes ultra football game where I know more than
everybody else and it's just like.

Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Okay, buddy, can't wait to see him ruined Julian Sane's
career on in Columbus, Ohio.

Speaker 4 (01:03:05):
That's probably a strong possibility, all right, Jason and Conro
see here right there, you want to get in seOne
three two one two five seven ninety against someone three
two one two five seven ninety. Hey, we don't do
a ton of college football in here, but at least
when it comes to college sports, the wins a change
could be a blowing at what exactly does that change
look like? We'll break it down right here. It's the
Morning Drive with Dana Cole Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (01:03:28):
We run on dingers, dumps and drive, not cold. Sports
Talk seven ninety guaranteed human.

Speaker 4 (01:03:39):
As I mentioned, you know, it's one of those that
me and you love college football, and it's not that
people around here, I've come to realize don't like college football.
Because you go to sports bars on Saturday afternoons. It's packed.
It's people in Texas year college football. It's people in
aggie gear, it's people in red raiders. I'm most we

(01:04:00):
go to uh Murby's ice House.

Speaker 6 (01:04:03):
But what I'm telling you is is that like literally,
when you live in a major metropolitan that doesn't have
a one direct team, every bar is known as the
so and so bar. Oh that's like when I was
when I moved back home after college, before I moved
around for a little bit, I would go to the
one bar downtown in Midtown that was the Alabama Bar.

(01:04:23):
They don't sponsor me, so I'm not giving you free credit,
but still that's where I would go to watch games. Yeah,
the bar next to it was the Auburn Bar. Really yep,
there were many and many a brawl. There was many
a time a police police were called.

Speaker 2 (01:04:41):
I never told you this.

Speaker 4 (01:04:42):
I never took to whoever wins there, immediately running over
to the other bar, and those people were like, those
rack bastards are coming, We're gonna get them. Why they
start talking like Robert Loja, but they just did.

Speaker 9 (01:04:52):
So.

Speaker 6 (01:04:52):
It was the one time I went home during the
holidays when I was in college for Thanksgiving, because of
you usually I was working, but I had a weekend
off and I need to go hang out with my grandparents.

Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
So Saturday we went to We went to the Alabama
bar and the kick six happened.

Speaker 6 (01:05:13):
I cannot tell you how many police officers were around
the two bars, breaking up brawls, and they having no
idea what is the implication behind the people and orange
all together? Who is this third gang that we're throwing into.

Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
The mix right now?

Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
You see, you got a guy cuffed and you know.

Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
There's a cop right there, and the guy's kind of
like giving a struggle. Who are these morons wearing maroon?
And the guy turns around and goes, it's crimsy.

Speaker 13 (01:05:41):
There.

Speaker 6 (01:05:41):
There was this one chick, I will never forget it,
super smoking hot smoke show. She had an auburn guy,
fat ass, like the dude who like you see like
you know the SEC couple exactly exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:05:54):
You go to a tailgate and you're like, you know, oh, hey,
have you met my husband you're married to that ran
up and said war eagle, see you next Tuesday.

Speaker 6 (01:06:02):
And the throat shop that she threw and they got
thrown in handcuffs right after by a police officer.

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
This is why I love the sport again. There's nothing
like it, dude.

Speaker 6 (01:06:12):
It's there's truly nothing like it in Alabama, Auburn bars, yes,
bars around the country.

Speaker 4 (01:06:16):
And it's also though too. I mean, you know, I
think the SEC gets a lot of credit for this,
but I mean it is true. I mean, I lived
in my previous stop there where like when people live
and die for their programs, they absolutely do. And it's
not like one of those like where it's people casually watching.
It's everybody is locked in on their team watching and

(01:06:38):
people trying to talk, and it's you know, immediately no, no, no, no, no,
we're playing.

Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
Shut the hell up. Yeah, we'll talk during timeouts.

Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
That's what it is. And that doesn't surprise me at
all because you know it's also too oh women who
liked football, dude.

Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
I mean, it's it's one of those where throat shop
the crap out of this fact. It was fantastic, dude.
It's a way of life like that.

Speaker 6 (01:06:58):
By the way, when you get threatened at away stadium,
it is probably the most kind of hearted threat I've
ever gotten in my life. I've like so remember remember
in twenty twelve, Alabama t J. Yeldon late score against
l s U. Unfortunately all too well, So we were
we went up for the weekend. It was another less miles.

Speaker 2 (01:07:17):
We were late game.

Speaker 6 (01:07:20):
We were sitting I think like six rows from the
top and we see the touchdown and like seven L
s U fans all turned us. One of them is
missing like seventeenth. So you automatically know that this is
not good. He pulls me in and goes good game
and then whispers so.

Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
That we get the hell out of the state because
you because again it's a threat, but you understand the
reasoning behind it.

Speaker 4 (01:07:42):
He's probably from Denim Springs, like you understand, like, dude,
you were.

Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
Won't get out of you, you wainit no well.

Speaker 6 (01:07:50):
For starters if they're from different than Springs, are you
even understanding how the stuff?

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
Probably not exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:07:56):
Probably probably from like desterrahnd or maybe even New Iberia
or somewhere like that.

Speaker 6 (01:08:01):
But like when you're in that environment, I feel threatened
because of holy crap, it is a religion for a
lot of these fans. But at the same time, it's
like a welcoming feeling because your team just beat the
crap out of them, which makes you feel better obviously.

Speaker 4 (01:08:13):
I mean, people around here know enough LSU fans, but
you know the ones who moved to Houston, they're the
refined ones. They're the ones that go, you know, become
engineers and work for oil companies and do things like that.

Speaker 2 (01:08:24):
So college football have having some change.

Speaker 4 (01:08:25):
Yeah, yeah, they'll have some change, but I mean, at
least when it comes to the change that could be
Maria Cantwell, who is a Senator from Washington, a Democrat.

Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Ted Cruz of course, we know Republican here in Houston from.

Speaker 4 (01:08:41):
Texas Hetty Southeast Side reached an agreement on Wednesday after
more than two months of intense negotiations to adopt a
comprehensive bill that would grant the nc douaa's long sought
antitrust exemption related to transfers eligibility, and compon station cap
The bill is called the Protect College Sports Act, and

(01:09:06):
it's a creation of it will eliminate the creation of
a super league, and also creates an agent registry that
limits fees to five percent, permits pooling of media rights,
and bars coaches from leaving their team before the season ends.
On other things, what is that a coach is leaving before?

(01:09:28):
I know what you're doing right now, and I don't
like it. What I want you to shut your traps?

Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
What's the role called? Again? I know what the rule
is called the Caah.

Speaker 4 (01:09:38):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
Yeah, you nailed it. I knew he was going to
make an impact in college for that's the one.

Speaker 4 (01:09:44):
Also induces a medical trust for lower resource athletic departments,
creates the Commission to Study the Pooling and long term
governments governance of college sports, and also features a private
right of action for athletes to file a legal claim
if they do not believe the law is being adhered to.

Speaker 6 (01:10:03):
Okay, So these are addendums that need to be put
in place for college football more so because of I
am sick and tired of seeing constant change in the
sport because of a quick buck. That's what this really
comes down to. You aren't able to build a consistent roster.
Every team has to be in win now mode because
if you're spending millions and millions and millions of dollars
in nil to be able to afford players to come

(01:10:25):
to the transfer portal, it's hard to build sustainability when
you're fighting not only trying to land a transfer portal player,
but also making sure a player doesn't leave your program
because it's again a higher buck. So like these are
addendums that are necessary, I think for keeping the sport
at least in a functionality of where it doesn't go
full on professional. Here is my one caveat ted What was.

Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
The other lady's name?

Speaker 6 (01:10:49):
All right, Maria, make sure you tell the COLLEGEOTBA playfmmittee
if you go to twenty four teams are full of crap,
give it a twelve.

Speaker 4 (01:10:59):
So that's part of it too. It needs and college
football's playoff will be twelve teams, and it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:04):
Needs to say it that because I'm sorry, I don't
need because here because the other rule is and we
could probably carry this on over for we could carry
this on over four hours and I'd be freaking happy
about this. The bottom line is that you're not seeing
this be welcoming to the ACC, the Sun Belt, the
Big twelve in Conference USA, little old ragtag Sam Houston
can't end up hosting a game at Bauer Stadium. What

(01:11:26):
you're doing is you're welcoming in a seven and five
Missouri and an eight and four Iowa that is getting
participation trophies for playing nine conference games.

Speaker 6 (01:11:37):
You're not opening up more diversity in the sport. You're saying, Hi,
welcome to the SEC. In Big Ten Invitational, Houston as
the loan representative from the Big twelve.

Speaker 4 (01:11:47):
But that's what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
That's why I don't watch twenty four.

Speaker 4 (01:11:49):
But then those ads whenever they get to give their
vote of confidence to coaches be like, hey, our coach
has made the playoff the last two of the last
three years.

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Here we have Elco's comments.

Speaker 4 (01:11:58):
Oko.

Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Yeah, yeah, that's what he is. I have job security.

Speaker 4 (01:12:03):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
Yeah, Hey, you can't fire me. I made the playoff.
We didn't work for James Franklin.

Speaker 6 (01:12:09):
They could have fired him that they had to wait
five games. They did wait five games and they lost
the UCLA.

Speaker 4 (01:12:16):
And then finally after he said that after games he
is down in his basement and boxers and t shirt
watching games.

Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
They're like, all right, now you're weird. Like, see, that's
the weird part about James Franklin. That was the one
right there. As soon as he made that, I was like, ew.

Speaker 4 (01:12:29):
How about the milk steak that was known as Jim Harbaugh?
How about just like say, I wear shorts and a
T shirt and I'm downstairs.

Speaker 6 (01:12:36):
That's less weird who wears gloves during a practice and
then goes and has a glass of milk with a
piece of steak.

Speaker 4 (01:12:44):
When then mows his own grass? Harball? Yeah, well, but
I mean a guy that is as well to do
as hardball, you would think he doesn't need to mow
his own grass.

Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
Who's got it better than us?

Speaker 4 (01:12:56):
Nobody? It is the Morning Drive with Dan and Cole
Sports Talks seven, So continue the college conversation because, well,
somebody is vehemently opposed and at least on your side
when it comes to the college football playoff. But I
think it's for a different reason. We'll discuss right here
as we continue. Jason ce right there working in too.
You want to join us seven one three two one

(01:13:16):
two five seven ninety can gets seve one three two
one two five seven ninety we continue to roll along.
Here it's the Morning Drive with Dan and Cole Sports
Talk seven ninety h town.

Speaker 1 (01:13:26):
The Morning Drive continues. Now now here's Dan and Cole.

Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
You mean I went seven innings and I actually it's
a qualify for a victory.

Speaker 4 (01:13:37):
Oh yeah, and this actually works, So there you go.
You also have Game six of the Western Conference Finals tonight. Okay,
see up three to two in the series. Continue the
college football conversation here in just a second, but Jason
O'Connor wents the way and Jason, good morning.

Speaker 9 (01:13:53):
Good morning.

Speaker 4 (01:13:54):
Tell us.

Speaker 10 (01:13:57):
I gotta say, when I grew up, my dad went
to LSHU and my mom went to Alabama, and don't
ask me how that marriage happened, but we we grew
up in a divided house where you had to pick
who you liked, and of course I chose the Tigers
because I mean they were the better teams at the time,
and I always stuck with the Tigers. So yeah, I

(01:14:19):
just wanted to throw that out there when it comes
to college baseball. Last night, great win. Good to see
Burrows finally get a victory. I know that's Cole's guy,
and uh yeah, any anytime the Astros win or anytime
anyone of Cole's guys win. Cole you are. You are
just absolutely hilarious on Twitter, and I love it.

Speaker 8 (01:14:41):
Just keep it up.

Speaker 4 (01:14:41):
But I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
Jason.

Speaker 10 (01:14:45):
I got to be honest. I've been in San Antonio
all week because yeah, we uh well, I'm a Spurs
fan and we've been over here and we went to
Game three and four and then we spent time. I'm
a family, my my parent, a lot of my family's
from San Antonio, so that's why I grew up the Spurs.
And but uh, I gotta be honest, man, if anybody

(01:15:09):
thinks the Spurs don't win Game six and this doesn't
go seven, then then that that's that's crazy, because I
think the NBA truly wants it to go seven games.
And either way, either way it benefits the Knicks because
they're gonna get all the rest in the world. But
when I heard y'all talking about Wemby this morning, I'm
kind of like, Okay, you know, that's a fair that's

(01:15:30):
a fair take, fair assessment. But he's not the only
one that's done it before. He's not the only superstar
that's done this. I mean, it's when when you have
a bad game. I know it's a bad look, but
when you have a bad game, sometimes you just don't
want to talk to the media. You don't have the
answers for why you played bad. I guess I have
no idea, but yeah, I just wanted to defend my
guy Wemby and and tell uh, tell the ok Oklahoma

(01:15:55):
City thunder fans to suck it, because we're taking it tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:15:58):
Hear Jason.

Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
We can let him roll on his horse right this morning.

Speaker 4 (01:16:03):
It's okay, appreciate it, Jason. I thought he was gonna
go shut your bump mass I shut your bumb mess up,
got chum ass.

Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
I got time for that, and ain't nobody got time
for that. Now we got time for you. Tripoli ten
to two. That Matt Thomas show with Ross No, I mean.

Speaker 6 (01:16:18):
Look, was that was anybody really calling out Wenby or
where we're just saying he decided to take the night
off and the NBA got involved.

Speaker 13 (01:16:24):
Well.

Speaker 4 (01:16:24):
He brought up the point of Joe Mixon after the
loss of the Chiefs, where he said, I just don't
have the answers right now.

Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
I'll get you on Monday, and then sure enough, on
Monday he did go stup further? Was this an elimination game?
Uh no, I'm okay. You can have one night to
where you say screw off.

Speaker 4 (01:16:41):
I don't care. I just don't want to do it.

Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
I don't want to do it. You get one as
long as it's not an elimination game, as long as
you just don't want to get a reputation for that.

Speaker 6 (01:16:50):
But as long as it's not a game to war.
Your season's over. And now you got to wait two
to three weeks or two to three days to even
have a conversation. I'm not going to fight back entirely
as long as you have that conversation. So, okay, has
Wenby met with the media since I don't believe he has.

Speaker 4 (01:17:06):
How they had a media session though I don't think
they did yesterday, They will have one today, right, I
mean I would assume that probably you do like a
shoot around, and maybe somebody's available for that.

Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
Well, Wenby would probably be the first thame that you
have to make available.

Speaker 4 (01:17:19):
Well, I was gonna say, I mean, just you know,
get up there really quick, answer a few questions, just
say where your mind was with it, and then just
say we're ready for tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:17:26):
And as long as you get. If you lose tonight,
you handle it like a champion. But it's also too,
I mean, you have a lot of players.

Speaker 4 (01:17:33):
You have a lot of players now like Draymond I
think kind of changed the game on this, and obviously
Jalen Brown does it too. You can have your own
podcast and you can just hop on there after the
game and that can kind of be your postgame media
availability and you.

Speaker 2 (01:17:46):
Control the narrative.

Speaker 4 (01:17:47):
And a lot of players are doing that, which I mean, Look,
if if you got the time and you got the
energy to do it, then go for it.

Speaker 6 (01:17:53):
Yeah, I mean, if you want to have the time
and energy to do it, then by all means, candle
it your own way.

Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
But at the same time, media availability still has to
be made.

Speaker 6 (01:18:01):
Now you can choose how you want to answer the
media versus how you want to answer the public. That's different,
but you still have to be made available. Especially when
you brought this up. You are the face of san
Antonio Spurst. Nobody's looking san Antonio and saying, my god,
that's Stefan Castle and dearon Fox Combo.

Speaker 4 (01:18:17):
Yeah, I mean, nobody's going out of their way to
talk about Dylan Harper being just what a jerk Keldon
Johnson is for for sitting this one out. Where are
you at Stefan Castle, Daron Fox? Come on, man, you
gotta talk. The only people that the first name.

Speaker 6 (01:18:31):
That you think of naturally is going to be Victor Rebandama.
In a loss, a series loss, you have to talk
right after Mitch Johnson like that.

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
That that's it. Outside of that, I don't care.

Speaker 4 (01:18:42):
Who got the technical the other night for just saying challenge,
But in the NBA you have to call a time
out and then tell them.

Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
Hey, I'm gonna challenge. Do you guys agree with who
got Coach of the Year?

Speaker 4 (01:18:52):
By the way, who got coach with the Oh, Joe Mazzulla?
Are you okay with that?

Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
I was gonna say one Mitch Johnson.

Speaker 4 (01:19:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:19:01):
I do understand the reasoning why though, because Tatum no
Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown played like an MVP future ution Rocket.

Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
Yeah yeah, and maybe in Ketchup and Muster jerseys.

Speaker 6 (01:19:13):
You you didn't, okay, guys, you didn't give me Kobe White.
If if they got Kobe White, I'd shut the hell
up about the Rockets getting somebody this offseason.

Speaker 4 (01:19:20):
Give me Jaylen Brown. I gotta get somebody right. Get
to the Greg Sankeye topic a little bit later on
in the show. But I do want to get back
into the Astros, and I note that a lot of
people want to be able to get in on the strows.

Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
Roger, Tim, see you both right there. You want to
join them?

Speaker 4 (01:19:34):
Someone three two, one, two, five, seven ninety because well,
when it comes to number forty four, what else can
be said that hadn't already been said? The guy's an
absolute freak. We'll talk about it right here. It is
the Morning Drive with Dana Coles, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
KB Houston atv HD two.

Speaker 1 (01:19:51):
Houston, Home of the Astros and the Rockets.

Speaker 7 (01:19:57):
Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home jeans
an iHeartRadio station, guaranteed youman.

Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
This is the Morning Drive with Dadd and Cole.

Speaker 4 (01:20:15):
Is it well to center field? That's got a chance?
Four oh seven is straight away?

Speaker 2 (01:20:19):
That's gone?

Speaker 4 (01:20:22):
You're not does it again?

Speaker 3 (01:20:25):
Four home runs in this series and that one was
as impressive.

Speaker 4 (01:20:31):
As any of them.

Speaker 5 (01:20:32):
The pitch and Alvarez hits it well, it hits it
deep to right center field. Back is partner at the
wall looking up.

Speaker 1 (01:20:39):
See a letter.

Speaker 5 (01:20:43):
Second hold non of the night for You're not Alvarez,
and this one puts the Astros up three to two.
You're not laying waste to Rangers pitching to two twing
and a mess got him on the high fastball, and
that is the game. The Houston Astros scored twice and

(01:21:06):
the top of the eight to take a lead they
would not relinquish.

Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
They defeat the Rangers tonight four to three.

Speaker 5 (01:21:12):
Astros have won five of their last six and have
guaranteed themselves a winning road trip.

Speaker 4 (01:21:20):
Two things that absolutely ruled about that highlight montage, of course,
on the call of Robert Ford and Steve Sparks last
night in the Astros four to three win over the
Rangers to take the second game at least second win
of the series, and they're going to try to get
an outright series win the night six o'clock Astros on
deck for that. One of them is Robert Ford being

(01:21:43):
postseason happy time Robert Ford and just hearing the exuberance
back in his voice again.

Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Absolutely love that.

Speaker 4 (01:21:52):
The other one is, you know, it just bothers Rangers
fans like nobody's business to hear that type of crowd
pop like you do with all of the Astros fans
that are inside the building there at Globe Life Field.
It's so fun. See Like that's the even better part
against a hated rival is when you take over their
stadium and you just absolutely let him know, like, oh,

(01:22:13):
we're here, and you can look up at the scoreboard
right now too, because we kicking you ask there too.
So how else do you want it? Do you want
it physically now? Because you keep running your mouth? That
can happen too.

Speaker 6 (01:22:24):
Four to three win, Ashhros, Now move one game closer
toward five hundred, one game closer towards the division.

Speaker 2 (01:22:32):
Title lead in the AL West. You're only three games back,
and you'd On Alvarez once again has proven that he
is the most dangerous man with a piece of wood
in his hands.

Speaker 4 (01:22:41):
I started off the show where I said Rick Rick
James once said she's a super freak. Well let's do
the remix. He's a super freak. Five homers in his
last three games. He's a pager state of clutch. Apparently
he is damn you damn right, he is. I mean
the AI painting out there making its way around, says
that ord On Alvarez as son Jordan Alvarez is the

(01:23:03):
patron scene of Clutch.

Speaker 6 (01:23:04):
You won last night's game because of good pitching for
Mike Burrows, but the reality is it came down to age,
and it came down to number forty four being the
reason why you were able to go ahead and claim
a victory, because Mike Burrows could sit here and say, look,
I gave you seven innings of quality work. I got
six strikeouts, I only gave up one walk. Yeah, the
fat Jack Peterson home runs sucked, but you know, at
the same time, it was a two to one game.

(01:23:25):
Here's the thing two home runs from but the last thing,
because if he would have been the issue, you get
all right, but you only have the one run and
it comes on the Braiden shoemake. It comes to the
braidon Shoemak single, and then you get somehow the Taylor
Tremmell botched ball that lets Christian Walker score from first.

Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
It's still too it's still too two.

Speaker 6 (01:23:44):
But then Peterson gives up the home gets the second
home run off of Brian King, so he doesn't qualify anymore. Yeah,
you needed ord On ALVAREZAVELLU out of trouble with two
long balls and now he is home run number nineteen
and home run number twenty on the year, and he's
right back in the conversation not being the MVP. It's
all you went anywhere. But apparently he wasn't top five yesterday, Haymon.

Speaker 4 (01:24:04):
Now he is. Well, and then it was that what
John Hayman said. Well, you know, John Hayman's on top
of all of baseball, so you know he's got that.
By the way, to the Astros now have the second
most homers in well, actually they're the third most because
the White Sox have seventy five.

Speaker 2 (01:24:22):
They have seventy four. Well they got the south Side Samurai,
that's why.

Speaker 4 (01:24:25):
Yeah, And I mean he's another guy too that continues
to just absolutely blister baseballs. But Jordon and Marikami both
tied for the lead in the American League. The overall
home run lead belongs to Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies.
But I mean, just look at across the board for
jord On, like any of those other two guys that

(01:24:46):
I just mentioned. Marri Kami is hitting two forty and
Schwarber is hitting two thirty eight. Jordon one of the
best hitters in all of baseball. At the moment, average wise,
he's hitting three twelve, and at least on his own team,
he's got the team lead in terms of batting average

(01:25:06):
and then across the league as one of the leading
hitters for not only that but also for ops as well.

Speaker 6 (01:25:13):
Jordan Avarez in the last three games has these home runs,
a four hundred and forty eight foot blast, a four
hundred and twenty eight foot blast, a four hundred and
forty nine foot moonshot, a four to twenty two blast,
and a four to fifteen solo. Damn would you say
at this point he has taken on over as the
most feared hitter in baseball?

Speaker 4 (01:25:32):
He is the sixth most in average, and he is
leading the league in OPS by a pretty good margin
over Ben Rice. So yeah, I would say that he
probably is.

Speaker 2 (01:25:41):
Because shoe Halo Toni's still a show Halo Tani. Aaron
Judge is still Aaron Judge.

Speaker 6 (01:25:45):
Kyle Schwarber is not go only going to launch five
hundred foot blast, but he is going to strike out
a lot.

Speaker 4 (01:25:50):
Still. They all know how to hit Homer. There's there's
holes in their games. Like I mean when it comes
to Jordan as opposed to say Aaron Judge. Aaron Judge,
isn't the most clutch hit her in the postseason. I
mean just in season.

Speaker 2 (01:26:03):
He's not grey, but he's fine.

Speaker 4 (01:26:05):
He'll he'll hit, He'll hit a pop up that just
gets into the right field stands, and then Yankee fans
are like, oh.

Speaker 2 (01:26:11):
My god, this is the greatest guy ever. He's awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:26:14):
But at the same time, let's see how he does
against the Blue Jays in Game three of the ALCS.
Let's see how that goes.

Speaker 6 (01:26:19):
At the same time, let's let let's go down out
there because a team. But you have to live in
this world because of Again, it all matters in the postseason.
You're looking at a Game seven moment that you have
got to you have to have a strikeout. Who would
you rather throw it to? Aaron Judge or you're on
Operation Aaron Judge. Aaron Aaron Judge. If you pulled, I

(01:26:42):
would say every pitcher in baseball they would tell you
the exact same thing. I would much rather go up
against ninety nine and forty four.

Speaker 4 (01:26:47):
Now, you know you should get that lefty lefty matchup
again though, and bring in Robbie Ray. I mean, it's
it's it's gonna one hundred percent workout. Oh it didn't.

Speaker 6 (01:26:53):
Yeah, three eighty one, six home runs, twelve thirty put
your shoes on top of your heads against the Texas Rangers.
I mean, he's he's a Rangers killer. It's fantastic.

Speaker 4 (01:27:04):
I think it was Matt Thomas or I can't remember
who brought this up, so I'm sorry for not giving
proper credit but pointing out that Jake Berger has five
homers all year at Global Life Field.

Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
Has six, No, you want to ask five five.

Speaker 4 (01:27:19):
I think it was Matt Thomas that had the line
though that when the Rangers do retire a jersey, their
first one there at their new Globe Life Field should
be forty four. That it should be forty four should
be heard on Alvarez, which he actually loves.

Speaker 2 (01:27:31):
That say, do you want to go a step further?

Speaker 6 (01:27:33):
You look at his numbers through thirty three games at
Globe Life Field three twenty three batting average, twelve twelve ops,
six extra base hits doubles, seventeen home runs, thirty seven RBI.

Speaker 2 (01:27:44):
I mean, like literally works. If Chris Young was a
genius to once.

Speaker 6 (01:27:48):
Again make sure that the Astros feel like they got
Betty mcdarnold, you would throw a billion dollars quite literally,
a one billion dollar contract to you were on Alvarez
again to make global life.

Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
Astros love hitting a global life field.

Speaker 4 (01:27:59):
I mean it seems like every single series they go
there and you need them to be able to get
the offense going. It's like, oh, we love this batter's eye,
we love all of it, and they get going.

Speaker 6 (01:28:07):
But you're talking about a guy who, at this point
you have a better shot of winning a game by
just putting him on first base and getting to the three,
four and five hitter in a lineup, intentionally walking him daily.

Speaker 2 (01:28:19):
Then you do trying to work around him, No, you do,
like you just simply do. It's the easiest plan for
a team to win at this point is say hey,
four just go like, just just go to first.

Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
It's pretty simple. Jordon's in the lineup, you got a shot.
Jordon not in the lineup, you don't feel good about
your chances. And we found that out last year. It
really is truly that simple with Jordon Alvarez. Now I
know the next one, Oh he always gets hurt. Well,
he's played this year, so.

Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
I'm also Kevin Rant always got hurt before he came.

Speaker 4 (01:28:48):
I'm only gonna worry. I'm only gonna worry about this year.
I'm not gonna worry about what's happened in the past.
And maybe he does have an il stint. I don't
want it.

Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
Nobody does, and try to be able to avoid that
as best as possible.

Speaker 4 (01:28:59):
I'm knocked on with you.

Speaker 6 (01:29:00):
We are talking about a guy who right now is
not only in one of the best pivots of his
career and one of the best active moments of his tenure,
but literally I think everyone would agree that if show Hail,
Tony and Mike Trout can win MVPs playing on sub
five hundred minimal teams out in Los Angeles, you are

(01:29:20):
easily going to give the award to a guy who
right now is as hot as it can be at
the plate.

Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
I mean, because he is the reason.

Speaker 4 (01:29:25):
And I do remember the attribution for this one, because
it was Ross last night on Twitter Villarrial who said,
oh the backspasms.

Speaker 2 (01:29:32):
I think we know what the cause was. Jordan Alvarez
carry carry.

Speaker 4 (01:29:35):
Yeah. That was good Ross, that was very good. Ninety
White Clever Roger wants to weigh in. Roger, good morning, Hey.

Speaker 13 (01:29:45):
Guys, I'll be having a good morning. I just want
to commend you guys for you know, Karen the torch
from Sean and just absolutely going running with it and
doing an awesome job. Appreciate it, man, just just appreciate
you do his work. Anyway, as far as uh, trade
packages go, trade package this, see, there's not a trade
package in the history of trade packages. It's going to

(01:30:08):
uproot you word on Omoros and the kids, because he
alone is worth the price of admission. So that's gonna
be that also. Uh, I just have something to say
about and and you know, Gus, you know, just I
just hope to keep it going. Look, I picked you
being Burrows and me Emile might not be such a
whiff after all. Hopefully we got more than a hundred

(01:30:28):
games left and we'll see what happens. But I think
our guys are getting a little bit better.

Speaker 6 (01:30:31):
What do you think, Listen, I will take a quality
of Mike Burrow starts to other like a genius a
little bit longer today.

Speaker 2 (01:30:37):
I will take that same for you, same with you.

Speaker 1 (01:30:39):
With you man, I think it won't be a.

Speaker 13 (01:30:43):
Total whiff, don't I don't think so. I think we're
gonna be okay, let's make deal.

Speaker 6 (01:30:47):
Let's let's make a deal. Let's let's you and I
rally together and we say that we're geniuses. And unfortunately
the sacrificial name is Peter Lambert gives up six runs
in a game. We will take that, you know, because
then we look smart and it's okay.

Speaker 13 (01:31:01):
Good trade off.

Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
I'll take the trade off. I agree with you on this.

Speaker 13 (01:31:04):
Yeah, okay, real quick on Walkeet player development. Look when
we had Isaiah Hartenstein, you know he's not the same
player obviously he is now, but he had he developed
that little ugly ass little floater that's actually absolutely money
every time he shoots it. And you know, the thing
is is a very critical all season for for Shangoon

(01:31:25):
and Thompson because you know, they don't come back with
some kind of resemblance of a jumper, and you got
a guy like Hartenstein who developed something over the years
and he was you know, he was trashed. And I
actually think Hartens had a little bit more value than
Shanguon had this moment just by just just here and now.
But anyway, I just think that I know it's about
focus and termination of the player obviously, but these guys

(01:31:46):
don't come back with some kind of resemblance of a jumper.
That's all of them just turning ahead of eating a dooka.
And whoever the player development is and they should cut
the court. Whoever that guy is in charge of that.
That's it. That's all I got guys I would do with.

Speaker 2 (01:31:59):
I appreciate it, Roger.

Speaker 4 (01:32:00):
I mean, at least when it comes to Yeah, I mean,
when it comes to this young core of the Rockets
that is like priority number one this offseason is because
you're not going to get Alprin Shingun all of a
sudden become a serviceable defender.

Speaker 2 (01:32:16):
He is who he is.

Speaker 4 (01:32:18):
But at least when it comes to Amen Thompson, I
saw somebody mention this and I agree, No, he's fine. Defensively,
it's a develop a jump shot. If you can at
least knock down mid rangers, if you can at least
be serviceable knocking down mid rangers and add that part
to your game, then you are able to become more
of a dangerous player.

Speaker 6 (01:32:38):
I still think that I believe that there is more
to Amen's game that we will see next season that
is still untapped.

Speaker 2 (01:32:45):
I still can believe that there is a second. I'm
not having to run the point. I'm back Fred would
save a lot of problems with that one.

Speaker 4 (01:32:52):
Then let's maybe, you know, have somebody that maybe won't
be great offensively but can add some things defensively that
could be a backup to Fred and have somebody else
running it and have Reed Shepherd and Amen Thompson being
off ball and being what they're supposed to be. Just
give me Kobe White finally, finally have the dream come

(01:33:15):
to life.

Speaker 6 (01:33:15):
Then you have to pay him a bucket load of money.
I've accepted the probably probably not gonna happen. I loved
watching him play at North Carolina guys like he was
he was. He is one of my favorite of college
basketball players. If I did a Mount Rushmore, I think
Kobe Why would be number four.

Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
It's just every time I think of him, I always
think of him.

Speaker 4 (01:33:31):
Draft Night with the fro was.

Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
So much that what talk about Cam Johnson getting drafted.

Speaker 4 (01:33:36):
Yeah, but it was also him where he took the
snap back completely off and just put it on his
head so it would somewhat fit. And it's just you
just see this huge fro in this hat somewhat sitting
on top of it have can you do any of
you do?

Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
Either of you know who my favorite college basketball player
is of all time, Kevin Pittsnogle. I'll let each you
take two guests and I'll reveal the turn the other
side of the break that you do.

Speaker 4 (01:34:01):
Pay speaking of one of the guys that was a
massive part of the Astros win last night. Maybe just
maybe a sign of things to come. Talk about it
right here as we continue. It's the Morning Drive with
Dan and Cole Sports Talk seven ninety Trajanwealth at trajanwealth
dot com, trajanwealth dot com one eight five y five
trades and one one eight five five Trajean one and

(01:34:22):
I mentioned Jeff Junior, the founder of Trajan Wealth all
the time.

Speaker 2 (01:34:25):
It's got a spot that we run on our station.

Speaker 4 (01:34:27):
And one thing that he says is so true when
it comes to your financial strategies, good enough isn't good enough.
We want great, we want outstanding, we want excellent, we
want elite, we want all of these things. That is
what Trajan Wealth is trying to do for you in
your financial future, whether it's retirement and investments.

Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
They got you on that. You know, everything that also
ties into this is also tax planning.

Speaker 4 (01:34:52):
You absolutely need to be able to have a strong
tax planning strategy. And then also, how what are you
gonna leave behind for the kids, the grain kids, anybody
else in your family, A state planning.

Speaker 2 (01:35:03):
Everything right there.

Speaker 4 (01:35:04):
They call themselves a family office for a reason because
everything is right there with trade and Wealth. And again
give them a call one eight five to five Trade
one eight fifty five tradean one. You can find them
online to a Tradjanwealth dot com got offices in Sugarland
and and Katie, that's where Chris is. You got the
Woodlands office. That's where my guy Peter is. You got
the Champion's office available to as well. It's trade and

(01:35:27):
wealth advisory services through tradean Wealth LLC SEC Registered Investment Advisor,
additional services through trades and the State and Trade and Tax,
actual client paid advertisement, additional disclosures to Tradeanwealth dot Com.
Don't forget you head on into any of those Houston
area offices.

Speaker 2 (01:35:41):
You tell them. Dann Matthews from the Morning Drive on
Sports Talk seven ninety sent you in.

Speaker 7 (01:35:47):
Dan Matthews, Cole Thompson. This is the Morning Drive with
Dan and Cole.

Speaker 4 (01:35:54):
I want to say that James Franklin let them lead
the team out once. But yeah, they're their Penn State
for so they.

Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
Can go to the year three thousand. Not much has
changed except for Penn State still not a national champion.

Speaker 4 (01:36:04):
It's pretty true. Let's see what Matt Campbell can do.
Uh Stro's win last night four to three over the Rangers.
Jordan Alvarez two homers. Love to see that.

Speaker 2 (01:36:13):
Mike Burrows seven innings. Same deal there.

Speaker 6 (01:36:15):
I promise we'll get back to Astros in a second.
But you you brought up his name, so I have
to discuss. I love Matt Campbell. I freaking adore Matt
Campbell as a coach. I think he's one of the
best in the industry. You said the best hire of
the off season was who.

Speaker 2 (01:36:29):
I thought that it was?

Speaker 4 (01:36:31):
Who did I?

Speaker 13 (01:36:32):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (01:36:32):
Whittingham at Michigan Whittingham. Where does Campbell rank for you
to Penn State? I'd say second, So you think it's
better than Lane to LSU. Okay, I just want to
get your opinion on that. And I know that you're
a big John Sumroll guy, so.

Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
Some are all was the best high of the off season?
In my opickon is it Summer All or is it
some roll, some roll, some wrong some roll.

Speaker 4 (01:36:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:36:53):
I don't think he cares. Yeah, I think he cares
about winning, because apparently that if he does not win
this year, he is.

Speaker 4 (01:36:58):
Going to help. You did have wolves it, uh whatever,
like coaches off season event that Kirby Smart was at.
I think like basically they just turned it into a
roast and it was for uh Steve, Steve Spurrier and
Spurrier's daughter.

Speaker 2 (01:37:12):
I guess is like the big realits are there in Gainesville.

Speaker 4 (01:37:16):
Yeah, and he made the joke he goes, your daughter
sells houses, right, and he goes, well, since I've been here,
there's been three of you living in houses here, so
you better not get too comfortable. I thought there was four.
Let's see it was his first year, was mcwaane. There's
been five, No, no, no no, and then mcawayane, mcaway
the following year.

Speaker 6 (01:37:37):
Yeah, Urban, then you had must Champ, then you had mcawayne,
and then you had but Kirby.

Speaker 4 (01:37:45):
But where he's been, Oh Kirby, it's only been three Yeah,
because it was it was him.

Speaker 6 (01:37:50):
Well macwhen was first, then Mullen then now summer there
you go. So I think you're talking about Spurrier.

Speaker 4 (01:37:58):
I was gonna say, yeah, Sin Spurrier, because you also
that ron Zuck in there too.

Speaker 2 (01:38:02):
Jesus, I forgot about ron Zoke.

Speaker 4 (01:38:04):
You want to talk about like one of the most
underwhelming hires of all time of Hey, we just lost
a program legend. Hey, let's bring in this guy named
ron zuk who.

Speaker 6 (01:38:12):
I remember when Alabama fan when the national media pegged
Caylen Debora as the Ronzick two point out, I want
to throw things.

Speaker 4 (01:38:20):
It was going to get to that one, or even
Mike Shula, although I mean, stop it, no, if you
do not speak him into pose' his name in my house.
Well but here's the thing though, too, is that you know,
everybody wants to think that, oh, you know Saban got
Julio Jones and all these guys, it was Mike Shula
that got him. He kept him, Yeah, he did keep him.
But still, I mean, I mean, you got to give
some credit to him for at least, you know, not

(01:38:42):
leaving the cupboard completely barren. See Larry the Cable Guy
pointed this out a few years ago, And you're right.
We will get back to some.

Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
Astros in some point. We got to get off college.

Speaker 4 (01:38:50):
But Larry Larry the Cable Guy pointed it out. He said,
the two industries where you can always blame the previous
people are college football coaches and Paul at Picks. And
I was like, you know what, Yeah, that's a great
I was like, I was like, that's it is a
great take. It really is, because that's the way it
always is. The next college football coach takes over and uh,

(01:39:12):
you know they, oh, you know, we're we're having to
build this program, We're we're having to put in the
culture in so many ways.

Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
Yeah, the guys before us were terrible. They knew nothing more.

Speaker 6 (01:39:23):
So the one thing I will say that because if
you just recently got back at ard'ren to come to
l s U. So he's gonna be on the staff
glorified mascot pretty much. I would love Joe Kines with
the glorified mascot for.

Speaker 2 (01:39:34):
The histh time speech gave. I mean, the interview on
the sideline is still in the top five greatest sideline
interviews of all time. That that halftime interview was great.

Speaker 4 (01:39:48):
There was also too a coach that used to be
at Converse, Judson, and when I used to talk about
Fox Sports and uh.

Speaker 9 (01:39:55):
It was.

Speaker 2 (01:39:56):
It wasn't Jim Streety, Well, what the hell was that?

Speaker 4 (01:39:58):
Coaches the I know, I'm gonna have to go look
it up, but go look up his halftime interview from
the Texas State championship game, and I mean he starts
yelling at the sideline reporter that's like just trying to
interview him, and it's just like, hey, you're not talking
to your team, You're talking to the sideline reporter, Like,
chill out there, man.

Speaker 2 (01:40:16):
It wasn't Mark Soto, was it? No? Okay, no, I
I'd have to go back and look up who does.

Speaker 8 (01:40:22):
So.

Speaker 2 (01:40:22):
Anyways, back to Astro's conversation.

Speaker 4 (01:40:24):
Yeah, I mean Mike Burrows, dude, Like, that's that's the
Mike Burrows that we'd been wanting to get. It's the
Mike Burrows that I think after that red start we
were like, Okay, this is the guy like a little
bit more like this. It's just with Burrows, it's just
been the mistake that does you in. Yeah, it's the
one error, the O two slider, and he damn near

(01:40:46):
had it happened to him again. Last night. I thought
when when Berger hit that ball, I was like, you
just did it again. You had a guy O two
and you hung a slider and that's what you get. Luckily,
he had Jake Myers out in center fields.

Speaker 2 (01:40:57):
Bailing was the one that got him in trouble. No
was the slider that no, no, no, no. Usually it's
the fastball on the two count as well, but he.

Speaker 4 (01:41:04):
Was going slider with his two and he hung one
the burger, just like he did to the guy for
the Twins, right.

Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
But but for Josh Peterson, he hung a change up.

Speaker 4 (01:41:12):
Change up was an issue.

Speaker 2 (01:41:13):
I got to tell you.

Speaker 4 (01:41:14):
I mean, I understand that he kind of is a
guy that pitches backwards and I heard tkm Blummer talking
about this last night, but I like his fastball, man,
I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:41:23):
Especially to his fastball was not an O two calendar.

Speaker 4 (01:41:25):
He had another one where he had a slider on
it in two and I can't remember who was hitting it,
might have been Josh Young, but he had him U
two fouls back a slider and then just dots him
up with a fastball low and outside. I mean, and
just able to. I mean, you saw it perfectly, just
fit right in the box, and you're just like, I
need that guy more. I need that guy a lot more.

Speaker 6 (01:41:47):
If Mike Burrows was your number four starter on a
regular basis, what you saw last night makes you feel
confident in your ritation.

Speaker 2 (01:41:54):
The problem is that you're asking him to be a
number two or a number three right now. Now.

Speaker 6 (01:41:58):
The good news is that when you yet back a
healthy Hunter Brown later on next month, Spencer Aregetty, I
do think he's gonna come back down to reality a
little bit, but not to a level of where it's like,
oh my god, he's now having a four to thirty
three year are right. I don't think I'll ever get
to get to that this season. In a combination of
Peter Lambert, Kaiwait Tang Tatsi Emi and Mike Burrows. If
you can all just somehow figure out a core of

(01:42:23):
one day you get to suck, one day you get
to be really good, and one day you get to be.

Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
The freaking elite one, it'll.

Speaker 6 (01:42:28):
Survive because last night's performance of yeah, I gave him
a home run to fat Jack Peterson. Yes, I had
some struggles early on, but I still gave you seven
innings of work.

Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
The fastball was legit, location was legit.

Speaker 6 (01:42:41):
I was also able to have balls be put on
the ground to be able to make easy grounders, how
to sell it outing you feel better about what he's.

Speaker 2 (01:42:48):
Going to provide.

Speaker 6 (01:42:49):
The other part isn't and like it's it's it's annoying,
And I'm not doing this because I'm a Mike Burrows
truther and I know that I'm probably the biggest one
of the market.

Speaker 2 (01:42:58):
You have five years of control with him, Like just
because if he's not good this.

Speaker 6 (01:43:02):
Season, where he's not an elite elite level this year,
doesn't mean that two years from now we may be
talking about him as a guy.

Speaker 2 (01:43:08):
This is an all start.

Speaker 4 (01:43:09):
You know what he reminds me of. He reminds me
of a golfer that has all world talent and you
just look at him and you just say, if you
can limit the mistakes, you're going to win, Like you're
going to win multiple majors if you can just limit
the mistakes right now as the golfer. Because you can't
go like I would probably say early in his career
Dustin Johnson, I say, because you can't say like Jordan
speedf because.

Speaker 2 (01:43:28):
Speefe came out swinging.

Speaker 4 (01:43:29):
No, I would say, I would say early in his
career Dustin Johnson is what he kind of reminds me
of where you're like, God, this guy just hits it
a ton. If he could just get a little bit
better with his wedges and on the green, then this
guy would start winning. And then it was also too
it was sort of just you know, absent minded, just
ridiculous mistakes that he would make that would cost him tournaments.

Speaker 6 (01:43:51):
You know what, I can really appreciate though, you did
not waste a good mic bro start because you wasted
a good touch sum I start in Minnesota. I'm glad
that you were able to find a way to recoup
this and not wist it good my bro start.

Speaker 4 (01:44:04):
I mean, and it just maybe shows you a little
bit of a corner turn with not only him, but
also the Astros too.

Speaker 2 (01:44:08):
So like Burrows, you owed, you owe your on Alvareza
State dinner.

Speaker 4 (01:44:11):
I was going to say, I think that probably there
was at least if nothing else, Hey, hey, let me
get your postgame meal for you.

Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
All right, Nobody nobody was more excited to watch that
home run. The number fifteen dude, he was the most
excited in that dugout. Holy crap, I'm not going to
take a no decision tonight. I'm actually going to improve
the three yea. My seven innings app actually paid off.
I'm so close to five hundred, like this team is
close to five hundred.

Speaker 4 (01:44:35):
I hate saying that a special Thursday edition of Cash
It or Trash It and it involves the Stros because
June is usually the June swoon. Maybe it won't be
for the Stros. We'll do that right here as we continue,
It's the Morning Drive with Dan and Cole. Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (01:44:51):
Real takes, real Reaction, Real Houston Sports Talk seven ninety
guarantee human it is that.

Speaker 2 (01:45:02):
Time of the week we cash it or trash it,
Cash It or trash It.

Speaker 6 (01:45:05):
As the Astros close out the month of May, we
begin a new chapter in June, and with June means
Bold Predictions. I will be releasing my top ten bold
predictions for the Astros in the following month. And if
Dan and Triple agree, they will hear this sound. And
if they disagree and they think it's a load of crap,
they will hear this sound. Let's play Casher trash It,

(01:45:29):
Ladies and gentlemen. Hunter Brown is expected to return at
some point later on next month. The expectation is in
the middle of the month, so give or take. He
is going to make let's put it out an even
three starts, cash or trash it. Hunter Brown will return
and make three starts before the month of July.

Speaker 4 (01:45:48):
Trash. I think that they're going to still take their
time with it, like you know, the middle of the month.
Can I guess be Detroit or the Guardians series. I'm
gonna go with. His first start back is in Toronto
against the Blue Jays, So would that mean he has
two starts? He would have two starts a tripling.

Speaker 2 (01:46:06):
Yeah, I'm with Dan, he two not three. Two.

Speaker 4 (01:46:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:46:08):
By the way, I'm not playing this round because of
everything I'm saying is a bold prediction. So I'm cashing
it so automatically you can just hit the cash button.
So you're saying trash it.

Speaker 4 (01:46:18):
I thank you for that.

Speaker 6 (01:46:18):
Hunter Brown does return in the month of June two
or three starts to have her money it is, and
he finishes with an e r A under two. Currently,
Hunter Brown has a one to zero record with a
point eighty four whip.

Speaker 4 (01:46:30):
I'm gonna trash just because I don't think that you're
gonna have them going long in the game. So I
think that probably you're gonna take your time with them.
Seventy is gonna four runs eighty pitches. I mean if
he does in a start, then yeah, that would be
really hard to be able to have an e RA
below that. So I think probably I would say the
over under for innings for him in his two starts
nine and a half over.

Speaker 2 (01:46:51):
Like, so you're saying just in total, so four and
one and then five and another.

Speaker 9 (01:46:54):
Yeam.

Speaker 6 (01:46:55):
So you guys say, so you're gonna trash under two
e R Yeah, what about you tribling?

Speaker 2 (01:46:59):
Yeah, I'm trash. Yeah, fair enough.

Speaker 6 (01:47:01):
Jordon Alvarez has been on its terror and everybody realizes
he's the most dangerous hitter in baseball at this point.
Jordon Alvarez will lead the majors in the month of
June and intentional walks I'm cashing, oh cashing that.

Speaker 4 (01:47:14):
Yeah, absolutely. I mean I thought you're gonna go with
like overall home runs or anything like that. The month
of June is quite nice. It's looking nice for the Astros.
Mm hmm, cash it or trash it.

Speaker 6 (01:47:27):
The Astros behind a resurgent Hunter Brown Spencer, Arraghetti, Peter Lambert,
Kaiwa Tang, Mike Burrows and insert your six pitcher here
probably Peter Lambert's what I would say, We'll finish with
a top ten e r A and finish top five
in strikeouts.

Speaker 2 (01:47:43):
Did you say to you, Oh, that's you mind? My apologies.

Speaker 6 (01:47:46):
I know I've got somebody in the top ten in
e ra A in strikeouts only for the month of
Jim only, not not total, just the month of jim Oh.

Speaker 4 (01:47:56):
Cash it. I mean, you've got the Pirates, the A's
are slip being the Angels, the Royals, Detroit is slipping. Uh,
Toronto has not been great. This is the pitching staff
that I think is starting a round in the shape.

Speaker 2 (01:48:09):
So all cash it me as well.

Speaker 4 (01:48:12):
I'm with Dan.

Speaker 2 (01:48:13):
Christian Walker has refound his groove in the month of May.
He has finished with eight home runs, sixteen RBIs, eight walks,
does are twenty two strikeouts. Whiles batting averages at two
A seven, his ops is at seven sixty two. Cash
it or trash it.

Speaker 6 (01:48:28):
Christian Walker will lead all first basemen in the American
League in RBIs.

Speaker 4 (01:48:34):
All cash it, all cash it, I mean, I think
that probably you're gonna get some up and down performances.
Sitting two fifty five right now, So that's about what
he's been through his career, so at least rbi wise,
he seemingly is coming through in those spots. All Cash,
I'm not sure about that one.

Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
I think I'm gonna trash that, trash that one. Finally,
somebody has got to be a negative on the list.

Speaker 6 (01:48:56):
Unfortunately, it comes down to a pitcher who has been
known as Spencer A Sagetti cash and or trash it.
Spencer Arraghetti will have back to back underwhelming starts where
he does not go at least five inns.

Speaker 4 (01:49:08):
I don't think that it's back to back, but I
do think that he is due for a down one
and I hope it doesn't come tonight. So with oh
this is in June, this doesn't count for to day,
right right, So I mean I think that probably there
is a start in there, maybe against like the Guardians
or maybe even Detroit where he does because he's gotten
touched up by Detroit a couple of times.

Speaker 2 (01:49:28):
So you're gonna you're gonna cash it. Mm hmm, Okay,
triple A, I'm gonna trash that one. You're gonna trash
that one. Yeah, Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:49:36):
Mike Burrows in his last seven games as a two
and three record a four to seventy nine era, but
he does have thirty six strikeouts and a one point
two six whip.

Speaker 2 (01:49:45):
Cash and or trash it.

Speaker 6 (01:49:46):
We are talking about Mike Burrows as the number three
pitcher on the Astro staff entering July.

Speaker 2 (01:49:52):
Uh, cash it.

Speaker 4 (01:49:53):
I think that he actually is getting back to what
we thought we were getting out of him coming out
of spring training. So I'll cash it. I think he's
starting to get some some confidence on the mound. Just
avoid the massive mistake.

Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
I'm along with Dan. I'm cashing at him. Cash it
or trash it.

Speaker 6 (01:50:08):
The Astros bullpen will be potent behind the return of
Josh Hater, but will still lead the majors in walks.

Speaker 4 (01:50:16):
Oh, cash it. I think that, you know, Brian, I
pray you still. I mean they've they've been really inconsistent
with how they use him. Like it's like, okay, like
if he's getting really good, then start treating him like
he's still that guy. But I love Alimber Santa at
least one the one we saw from him. And of
course the caller last night confused Annial Dela Santos with

(01:50:38):
Alimber Santa and Matt had to remind him No, it's
Niel de la Santos.

Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
Pitched last night.

Speaker 4 (01:50:43):
He did.

Speaker 2 (01:50:43):
He was like, he was like the two times we've
seen Santa and it's like, now you've seen him once.
I'm gonna trash that one. I'm sorry Hater comes back.

Speaker 12 (01:50:51):
I feel like everybody's been playing everyone really since yes
has been playing at a position.

Speaker 2 (01:50:55):
I feel when Hater comes back, yes, we will be
speaking of Josh Hater.

Speaker 6 (01:50:59):
Josh Hater is expected to return for the first series
in June against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cash or trash it,
Josh Hater goes perfect and save opportunities for the month
of June.

Speaker 2 (01:51:09):
I'm gonna trash that one. I'll cash it.

Speaker 4 (01:51:13):
You think, Yeah, I think that this is a guy
that was able to have a really good start to
last season. And I also have to believe that he's
gonna be back by this weekend because he pitched last
night and he's gonna pitch tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:51:26):
So you think he will be back in at some
point against his former team in Milwaukee. Oh, I think he.
I think he's back with the team on Friday.

Speaker 4 (01:51:33):
Maybe they don't use him, but I think he's back
with I think he's back with the team tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (01:51:36):
Yeah, okay, two more Casher trash hits. You're a l
surprise All Star vote starting pitcher Kaiwa Tang. I'm gonna
go with araic Getty, so I'll trash it. I think
that arag Getty.

Speaker 2 (01:51:53):
Is the guy that if he continues doing what he's doing.

Speaker 4 (01:51:56):
How can you turn away a guy that said, you know,
if you get to the All Stark and it's like
ten wins an Era sub three, Like, yeah, that guy
goes to the All Star Game, Triblin, I'm gonna trash that.

Speaker 9 (01:52:11):
I know.

Speaker 6 (01:52:12):
I want to pretang because of again, it's like the
break he's the unsung hero of the Astros this year
and the pitching sided things you saved you final one.
The Astros have nine series in the month of June.
They will finish with more wins in a series than losses.

Speaker 2 (01:52:28):
Yeah, I'll cash that one.

Speaker 4 (01:52:29):
I mean again, you've got the Pirates, the A's, the Angels,
the Royals, Tigers, Guardians, Blue Jays, Tigers, and Twins. Again,
if you're gonna get back into this thing, you've got
to crush. The month of June, they will lose one
series to either the Tigers or the Angels, they will
win every other series.

Speaker 2 (01:52:48):
There you go to cash. That's cashing or trash it.

Speaker 4 (01:52:51):
Looking ahead to the month of June, and the Astros
have four more games here in the month of May.
As we continue the conversation, when again on the strows
you can seOne three two, one two five seven ninety
is the way that you can do that when it
comes to the Astros, well, maybe they are going to
be active when it comes to the trade deadline in
a couple of months after all, and not for the

(01:53:13):
reason you think we'll discuss right here. It is the
Morning Drive with Dan and Cole Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:53:19):
Back to Danny Cole as the Morning Drive cruise is.

Speaker 4 (01:53:23):
On seOne three two one two five seven ninety. Close
out the hour with John in just a second. But
it's been for much of the season, and of course
the calls for trades, in the ideas that trades could
be made by the Astros to ship guys away, those
are kind of starting to die off, especially now you

(01:53:46):
factor in your three games out of the division lead.
Like let me tell you right now, you'll pick back
up in a week when they lose the next six.
So okay, So if something like that happens, and that
you are eight or nine games out of first place,
then all right, you've got about a month and a
half to be able to try to get back in.
But let's just say the Astros say, right around trade
deadline are still a game or two under five hundred,

(01:54:07):
and they're what two and a half games out of
first something like that, you ain't getting trades to go away.
So Chandler rome does a mail bag that most writers do,
and he did one with the Athletic and one of
them from a reader. Yeah, a reader named Max was
how realistic is that the Astros could be buyers at

(01:54:28):
the deadline, And Chandler responds, very realistic. Max has just
discussed the al is dreadful. The Astros employee general manager
who's in the last year of his contract needs a
successful season to justify asking for another one. It is
not difficult to see a path towards an all in
trade deadline remaining within realistic striking distance of either division

(01:54:50):
crown or a wild card spot. The Astros will operate
as buyers as far as what they could seek. It's
the same wish list that they had this soft season.
A established outfielder and a high leverage reliever. Only five
teams entered Sunday extracting a lower OPS from their outfield

(01:55:10):
than the Astros. None has a higher bullpen era than
the astros five point six to zero mark, though Josh
Hader's imminent return could help. Still, Brian Abraw's stuff is
not improving, and the reliance on a select few leverage
relievers is unsustainable across the next one hundred and eight games.

(01:55:31):
This was a couple of days ago, so I guess
now it's one hundred and six games. But still, the
answer does actually go against what some people are asking for.
Because I've been telling you you can ask for one thing.
I'm just telling you what the Astros will probably do.
Three questions.

Speaker 6 (01:55:49):
Number one, who can you trade, like, honestly in the
farm system, who can you really trade that is going
to be enticing, that will help get you over there?

Speaker 4 (01:55:55):
That is a fair question.

Speaker 6 (01:55:57):
Number two, how far do you need to be within
reach or striking distance of the division time not the
wildcard spot, because.

Speaker 2 (01:56:04):
The wildcard spot.

Speaker 6 (01:56:05):
If you feel like that, you can be a game
out of a wild card. Maybe you just don't make
any major moves, But how far do you have to
be out of the division tile to actually swing?

Speaker 2 (01:56:12):
I would say that you're talking about like trailing the division.

Speaker 4 (01:56:16):
Yeah, six games, So anything less than you would say
you stamp Pat, not stamp pat.

Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
I think if there's anything less, you go for it
because you're like.

Speaker 6 (01:56:26):
We need to anything more seven, seven or eight games?
You sell no, so you just stampat m Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:56:33):
That's the worst case scenario that I could see is
that the Astros just don't make moves.

Speaker 2 (01:56:37):
But I'm a chandler on this. I want more go go.

Speaker 6 (01:56:43):
You said that because of the AL just in general
is open, right, not a lot of winning teams. So
if you're not winning and nobody else's winning, why does
anybody making trades?

Speaker 4 (01:56:53):
Well, the problem that I think you run into is
that a lot of the same things you're looking for
other teams who are in your same position would be
looking for it, and they've got you've got a saturated
pool at that point, but they have better farm systems.
But then it also then for the teams that are
not in contention, the asking price goes that much more
because they're like, oh, yeah, well hey, these people are

(01:57:13):
offering me this.

Speaker 2 (01:57:14):
So unless you can make it better than that. This
guy's going to them like just.

Speaker 6 (01:57:18):
Humor me and say the Baltimore Orioles are in the
same position that you're in, and they're like two games
out of first place in the Al East.

Speaker 2 (01:57:25):
They have a better farm system than you.

Speaker 6 (01:57:26):
They can win every single battle, but they're still under
five hundred or they're right at five hundred. But that's
the world that you live in at this point where
it's like, it's hard for me to see a trade
because if so many other teams are so bad right now,
if they feel like that they're going for it, their
farm systems will outwork yours.

Speaker 4 (01:57:42):
Keep in mind, though, too, all right, keep in mind
that Dana Brown has also mentioned current players that could
be moved.

Speaker 1 (01:57:49):
He did.

Speaker 4 (01:57:52):
Mention, and not him specifically, but he did mention when
we were talking about potential trades at the media day
before the season starts. Did he was like, we don't
have to necessarily trade from the minor leagues. So clearly
these are things that he thought about. Well, yeah, but
what but what are you doing? You're getting right, you
get rid of Kaiwei.

Speaker 6 (01:58:09):
I wouldn't I say you're gonna get rid of your
price tool of the off season.

Speaker 4 (01:58:12):
We've down out Peter Lambert's I mean, could Lambert possibly
met you something?

Speaker 13 (01:58:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:58:17):
I feel like if you're selling on Lambert, what you're
doing is you're selling on him because if you don't.

Speaker 4 (01:58:20):
Think he's not necessarily because you right now probably would
figure once you get Hunter Brown back that uh. And
then I mean, I guess we'll have to wait and
see because Christian Hobvier has got throw a live VP,
so I mean, you're gonna have to.

Speaker 2 (01:58:32):
Put him somewhere. I thought about this yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:58:38):
Is Christian Xavier once Lance mcculler's junior is not here,
is he gonna be the new Lance mcculler's junior.

Speaker 2 (01:58:43):
He has the new So that's that's what it is.

Speaker 4 (01:58:45):
He's waiting stop stop signing your pictures to long term deals,
except for Hunter Brown sign him.

Speaker 6 (01:58:50):
No, you're just you're moving up the pecking order. It's
like it's the Air Apparent. You're waiting for him to
twitle loss so you can be crowned the next one.

Speaker 4 (01:58:56):
It's like a program that has like crappy quarterback play
all the way through. You're just another one, like you're
Diddy at Lin.

Speaker 6 (01:59:02):
No, it's like how everyone was waiting for the queen
to go kick it and then say, all right, King
Charles like that, that's what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:59:07):
It's high, it's King Christian, it's King. It's King Hobby.

Speaker 4 (01:59:12):
Here the il That's what it is. Do you have
like a fourth's next to your name or like a
oh it's just you. Okay, see the fourth, but you're
in line. I got it, non Hovey the L of
the eye. Okay, all right, all right, I got it.
I got it? Is I L.

Speaker 2 (01:59:26):
No, you can't do I L because I think that
would be what fifteen?

Speaker 4 (01:59:29):
Would that be?

Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
Fifteen numerals?

Speaker 8 (01:59:31):
I think so?

Speaker 9 (01:59:32):
Do you what?

Speaker 6 (01:59:32):
No, it would be L I for fifty one. If
only L I AL was called quite a lineage the
list injured, it would have worked perfectly. Nine o'clock cour
is straight ahead, John Ce. You're right there so we
can continue the Astros conversation. You also do have the
Texans getting on the field for uh ot as, And
I've got an honest question, does it even matter?

Speaker 2 (01:59:54):
We'll discuss right here. Talk about it. Sports Talk seven
ninety k Houston, Houston.

Speaker 1 (02:00:01):
As a rocket.

Speaker 7 (02:00:06):
Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home teams
and iHeartRadio stations guaranteed.

Speaker 1 (02:00:13):
Youman, This is the Morning Drive with Dan and Cole.

Speaker 4 (02:00:25):
DROs Or three winners yesterday over the Rangers taking a
second game in this series, going to try to take
three out of four. Coming up later this evening, six
o'clock Astros on deck. Get you said for that? You
also have a Game six of the NBA Western Conference
Finals the Thunder with a three to two lead on
the Spurs, so San Antonio trying to protect home court tonight.

(02:00:49):
And also the Texans gonna get on the field for
OTAs is that practice will get going here in about
thirty minutes over there at Reliant Park. What do you got?

Speaker 2 (02:00:59):
I want to say this?

Speaker 4 (02:01:01):
Say it?

Speaker 2 (02:01:02):
It's like it's it's the Steve Busceemi meme of Hello
young fellas, Oh hell hello young kids. Who do you
think tweeted this?

Speaker 4 (02:01:11):
On this day?

Speaker 2 (02:01:13):
Harambe would have celebrated another birthday. An icon, a patriot
culture and in an entire generation's timeline. It marks ten
years since we lost him, ten years since the moment
the world stopped scrolling and collectively more something bigger than
a meme. You know, he became a symbol of loyalty, strength, chaos, unity,

(02:01:36):
and the strange beauty of the Internet bringing millions of
people together for one cause.

Speaker 6 (02:01:41):
Never forget Harambe. Everyone remembers where they were, where they
heard the news, and somehow, a decade later, his legacy
lives on gone but never forgotten.

Speaker 2 (02:01:53):
Rest easy to a true patriot.

Speaker 4 (02:01:55):
You're gonna have to explain this with it. That's it.

Speaker 2 (02:01:59):
We stayed in a moment of silence for Harambe. Yeah,
the White House tweeted that.

Speaker 4 (02:02:06):
I hate this so much. It's a scion man.

Speaker 2 (02:02:11):
I'm not doing politics, but that is the most we're
trying to get with the youths moment. That is the
straight up. I am wearing a backwards baseball cap looking
like I am fifty, trying out a fourteen year old.
So you couldn't sound more old or white if you
just tried with what you just said right there. Trying
to get with the youths. That's what the White House
is supposed to be, trying to hang out with the youths,

(02:02:33):
and we're trying to appeal to the younger audience.

Speaker 4 (02:02:35):
That is the Oh, by the way, they threw a
photo off of him, zoos. Most young kids that you
have no idea who Harambe is. I would say that
it was probably a millennial thing, if anything. I mean,
for the most part, it was oh yeah, wasn't that gorilla? Yeah,
the gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Speaker 2 (02:02:52):
Why is the White House tweeting about Harambe?

Speaker 4 (02:02:54):
That's all I'm asking is Harambe had the nation's attention,
the meme alive, and well it was just you know, hey,
big fellow deserved a lot better than what he got.
What was your favorite Harambe meme? I'll celebrat a decade later.
I'm sorry, this is big news we have.

Speaker 13 (02:03:11):
I got.

Speaker 4 (02:03:11):
I gotta go back and look at Harambe memes. You
have one t him just standing there, you know, looking
over him.

Speaker 2 (02:03:18):
That's your favorite one.

Speaker 4 (02:03:19):
The one of Harambe and the clouds was a good
one too. My favorite still is Harambe Proud.

Speaker 6 (02:03:24):
No, my favorite still and I don't think it will
ever be topped, is you have vin Diesel sitting in
a car and then it pulls up.

Speaker 4 (02:03:30):
Hey, you think you can walk away with.

Speaker 2 (02:03:34):
Let's see you again? Continues to play as he drives
off and they see that.

Speaker 6 (02:03:40):
No, it was like very early stages of AI the
car starts lifting off the ground and flying towards the sky.

Speaker 2 (02:03:47):
I don't that to me is still the greatest family
of Harambe's family.

Speaker 6 (02:03:52):
Family family in a world where again fast and furious,
is a lot of flying space.

Speaker 2 (02:03:56):
And just like Vin Diesel, he lives a quarter mile
at a time. I'm sure that's what he said before
he heard the shot. John's gonna rescue us. Good morning, John, John.

Speaker 10 (02:04:13):
Hey Man.

Speaker 8 (02:04:14):
Look, thank goodness, I don't have to listen to anymore
still he talk from fans about trayon Ava rest. Thank goodness,
I don't have to listen to anymore of that. Look,
Mike Burrows, we trashed him quite a bit. Yes, well,
let me tell you I was hard on him. But

(02:04:34):
I also thought to myself, I know he hadn't been
in the as a start in the Major League very long.
They I think he only making a million or so
a year, so, you know, and I could see the
potential when he pitched. I could see sometimes he he
would pitch and it looked really good, and you know,
and like you always saying, sometimes he would throw that

(02:04:57):
that bowling ball right down the middle. So I could
see there was a chance that he could get better.
And you know, and I'm not saying he's that yet,
but I have to give him his due. He pitched
well last night, so if he's listening, we transh everybody
when they do bad, when they're supposed to do better.

(02:05:18):
But so you did real good last night. And Dana Brown, yeah,
I transh him too. I'll say this much. It's looking
a little bit, a little bit that Danny Brown might
be right about some of this pitching. The pitching is
beginning to get a little better, a little better. But

(02:05:40):
we but it's got to get better in the near future.
Now I'm not counting me mind, because I you know,
I tell y'all, y'all know, I think he might got
to do better to impress me. Do like Mike Burrows
last night. Then I'll say you you looking pretty good.
But on another note, right quick, I wanted to say,
go go okay a Victor wan Banyana walk around there

(02:06:03):
like his boo boo is made out of gold.

Speaker 1 (02:06:06):
He get mad.

Speaker 8 (02:06:07):
He get mad at the reps when things ain't going
his way, and he get mad at the reps when
they caught a few files on him. That's why he
was soaking the other night. And didn't come out and
do the press conference. And by the way, I understand
that they're not even gonna find him. Well Jesus man,

(02:06:27):
you not well Chamberlain or Jabbar or any of these
guys yet. But he walk around like he thinking y'all
that he want the reps to help him out. Okay, See,
it's gonna take this, and I'm gonna be so very
happy because in ninety five when the Rocks, I was
visiting up there in San Antonio, and those people treated

(02:06:49):
me real bad when Elijah Wayne went through rap Sampson
like like we went through Robinson like trash. I ain't
never forgot or don't want y'all to wear nothing, at
least not until the Rockets win.

Speaker 1 (02:07:02):
Y'all have a good day.

Speaker 4 (02:07:04):
You do the same, John, John, we went in tonight. Yeah,
there you go. I think noted Oklahoma City thunderfan. I
think that we got the pull first.

Speaker 2 (02:07:12):
He's from Oklahoma, all right. He's not a bandwagoner. He's
a lot of well for starters. Yes he is, because
he's a lebron fan. Apparently I did hear that. I
did I did hear that?

Speaker 6 (02:07:22):
Almost I almost asked Matt at that point can we
have a trade for producers Lebron over MJ. Come on,
I know, I know it's your I know there's there's
a generational gap between us. So Lebron and m J
is the NBA version of in and Out versus water Burger.

Speaker 2 (02:07:38):
All right, it's one hundred percent. Yeah, it's what you
grew up on.

Speaker 4 (02:07:41):
That's fair.

Speaker 2 (02:07:42):
Yeah, I grew up on Jordan. Yeah, I grew up
on waterbirds. I'm a Jordan and I'm a water Burger person. Yeah,
I don't.

Speaker 12 (02:07:48):
I don't, Yeah, because I understand the same. I have
this discussion with my pops too. Yeah, it's yeah, man,
that's a great analogy.

Speaker 4 (02:07:55):
Thank you. Yes, sometimes I have him.

Speaker 2 (02:07:57):
Hat tip to you, unless you're Hillary Duff and then
you go mad to betray Waterburger.

Speaker 4 (02:08:02):
Yeah, she did do.

Speaker 2 (02:08:04):
She ruined her. She ruined the mirage of.

Speaker 6 (02:08:08):
Her for me because she said in anounced better and
I've embraced the California style like you grew up in Texas.

Speaker 4 (02:08:14):
Nobody Houston. She's one of those two. It's gonna end up.
Oh I love Austin. Oh do you? I don't know?

Speaker 2 (02:08:22):
She canna love whatever the else she watched.

Speaker 4 (02:08:24):
She looks great. Austin's like the gateway for for Californians
to think, Oh, I love Texas lifestyle. You're not really
living in Texas. You're living in the bubble that is
surrounded by the rest of the state is where you're living.

Speaker 2 (02:08:35):
Okay, we're not gonna say anything aging about Hillary Doff.
She's awesome.

Speaker 4 (02:08:38):
No, and she she is number one now and she
and she, like justin Verlander coming to the Astros, has
found quite the resurgence I would she never lost it though,
never really lost it, but I lost it. I mean
Earlander kind of tailed off a little bit and then

(02:08:59):
he here to Houston and it was, oh, he's still him.

Speaker 2 (02:09:02):
Yeah, he's still here.

Speaker 4 (02:09:03):
So I mean I feel like that, you know, sportsweasuit issue.
All of that time, it was still my top five
though before going back out on tour. She's doing like
fitness influencing.

Speaker 2 (02:09:14):
Yeah, but she was still top five. Before she became
this popular movie. She stepped away for a little bit.

Speaker 6 (02:09:19):
She was a TV show, a very bad runoff show
that was supposed to be How I Met Your Mother
Part two.

Speaker 4 (02:09:25):
Oh, she was like kind of like she was the
main character in that.

Speaker 6 (02:09:28):
Okay, and that's your television reference a really bad television
show that I hated because it was made by the
same people who ruined one of the best shows of
all time with the finale with How I Met Your Mother.
It's the the finale ends for me and that kids
tied about your Mother. I don't know what happened in
the last five minutes because it's that bad.

Speaker 2 (02:09:44):
I only watched like a handful of episodes. I never
really got into Gerational gap again.

Speaker 6 (02:09:48):
That was for me when I was in college, where
like you had friends, probably because friends was when you
were in college, right.

Speaker 4 (02:09:55):
It was the OC was really kind of the show
that was hit when I was in college. Barton she died,
she died and then she did Yeah, yeah, it was.

Speaker 13 (02:10:08):
It was.

Speaker 4 (02:10:08):
It was a sad.

Speaker 10 (02:10:12):
Well was it?

Speaker 4 (02:10:12):
Rachel Bilson, Adam God, what's his name? Yeah, Adam Brody
he was he was in it. No, but like the
Bilson was Peter Gallagher, he was the dad. He was
Sandy Cohen. He was America's dad.

Speaker 2 (02:10:30):
I still know him as from mister Deeds.

Speaker 4 (02:10:31):
And then do you know what Adam Brody Peter Gallagher's
wife on the show. Her name was Kirsten. Great doesn't
cheat on her. No, no, he does she die. She
does not. Okay, I've never watched the know she did
have to go to rehab though, because she had a
massive drinking problem. That's fantastic. My wife doesn't drink.

Speaker 2 (02:10:52):
I mean, basically, like the.

Speaker 4 (02:10:52):
Whole point of the show was like, you know, hey,
behind the gates of like the great Orange County neighborhoods,
there are still are problems. And that's much what it was. Basically.
It was one. It was one long after school special.
Beth Fox was able to run for about ten years.
So it's it's millennial outer Banks pretty much.

Speaker 2 (02:11:10):
Pretty much. I the OC walks, so outer Banks could fly. Yes,
you could say that for sure on streaming services where
you have to pay nine ninety nine to watch television show.

Speaker 4 (02:11:20):
And it's just it's that's the thing with the outer
Banks too, is it's like they never they never get
themselves out of trouble, like they're always chasing the rabbit
the entire show, and you're just like, good lord man,
that's what makes the show work. I guess all right.
Speaking of the Texans, as we mentioned, Ota is going
to get fired up here in about fifteen minutes, and
I asked the question, Now I'll actually pay it off.

(02:11:41):
Does any of this really even matter? We'll discuss right
here as we continue. It is the Morning Drive with
Dan and Cole Sports Talk seven ninety. Hey, you know
what I did hearing one of the breaks today, I
went ahead and scheduled that my next visit over to
sweat House sweathouz dot com sweathouz dot com, where you
can recover, recharge.

Speaker 2 (02:11:59):
We set your body in under an hour.

Speaker 4 (02:12:00):
And you know what's gonna happen when I step back
in one of those private suites tomorrow. I'm gonna hop
into that sauna for probably about thirty five minutes or so.
Then I'm gonna jump in the refreshing vitamin C shower
just to rinse off myself before I hop into that
cold plunge. Get through those first thirty seconds, and I'm
telling you, you stick it through, you get back out,
You're almost gonna feel like you're baptized, Like you seriously are,

(02:12:21):
Like You're gonna feel so much better once you get
out of it. Because I'm talking about recovery from a workout.
I'm talking about reducing stress, boosting energy, improving sleep, and
just feeling amazing book your first session right now. Sweat
house dot Com, sweat House dot Com, sweat Houz dot Com,
Sweat House, Sweat Plunge, Feel the Difference.

Speaker 7 (02:12:41):
Good Morning Drive with Dannan Cole on Sports Talk seven ninety,
home of the Strolls, Rockets, and Houston's best Sports Talk.

Speaker 4 (02:12:52):
Seven one three, two one two five seven ninety is
the number to get in Cole. I mentioned about OTAs
and it's one of those underway officially. This is like
the ultimate scratching the itch, Like this is the ultimate this.
This is the NFL's version of spring football in college
because you're not preparing for a game. They're glorified bowl

(02:13:15):
practices to a certain point where it's like, yeah, you're
on the field, you're getting work. Hey, we're we're getting reps,
we're getting better every single day. You're gonna hear all
that you know bs from over there, trus It's it is,
It's one hundred percent. The way to get you caught
in This is this is prime and how how I
railed against cliches and everything yesterday. The first practice is

(02:13:37):
free for all expectations.

Speaker 2 (02:13:38):
This is gonna be all of it today.

Speaker 4 (02:13:40):
Of course I'm excited, you know what, because you're gonna
be over there with with X right, I'm pretty sure,
come back, come back and play some of.

Speaker 2 (02:13:46):
This audio tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (02:13:47):
And I specifically wanted to be like the Levatard Show
used to do the useless sound montage. We could be
able to that's that's that's what we do in sports radio,
is like you know, you rip ideas and you kind
of pass off is your own. What was it called?
I want It was the Dan LeBatard Show, but they
used to do the useless sound montage, so it was
it was I see what you did there, But it

(02:14:11):
was all like the cliches, nose to the grindstone, all
of those things. I want it all tomorrow. I want
it all. I want every single We're just trying to
get better today than we were yesterday, all of that,
because that's all you're gonna get for these next few weeks.
That's what you want tomorrow. Yes, one hundred percent, because
it's gonna be everybody. Oh you know what, he's a

(02:14:32):
real lunch pale. That seat you get extra points for
something like that. He's a real lunch pale guy. He's
a blue collar guy. I want all of that red
ass perfect. I'll actually give that.

Speaker 2 (02:14:43):
I mean that we're gonna get Mike Burrow's two point
zero kilan Rettlinch.

Speaker 4 (02:14:45):
I'll give points for creativity. If you step out of
the box and you actually do something like that, I'll
give points for it.

Speaker 2 (02:14:53):
Again, I understand the hype behind it.

Speaker 6 (02:14:55):
It's the start of football to where you actually get
to see some bit of movement with the entire team
in the works. It's voluntary again, so there will be
players who may or may not be there, but it's
something that will entice you and in this country, whether
or not you want to admit that you are a
baseball fan or an aficionado that loves hockey, or is
somebody that is enjoying what's going on with the upsets

(02:15:16):
in tennis because apparently not happen this morning in the
French Open football, Rain and supreme football is always going
to connect people together. It's going to build a society,
and you're always going to want to believe that with
that first sign, this is your years. It's that way
for every team, Like I'm not gonna go sit here
and say it's for Dallas or that you know Cincinnati

(02:15:36):
acts like because if we have Joe Burrow. It's like
a Cleveland fans are losing their minds at the start
of OTA is believing that hey, if we get back
Miles Garrity doesn't want to do a contract hold out,
maybe Deshaun Watson finally can put it all together like
it's it's normal.

Speaker 2 (02:15:49):
To be that way because of what the sport does
for society just in general.

Speaker 6 (02:15:54):
So I'm like, I make fun of it because of Again,
the guy that you see make the highlight grab to
is gonna be cut in three weeks because if it
just happens as per usual.

Speaker 2 (02:16:05):
But I understand the hype behind it.

Speaker 6 (02:16:06):
I'm not gonna sit here and tell you though, don't
be excited that you have football back on your tele
I mean back in your life. There's actual things to
talk about, and it's not just expectations. You get to
see something that is at least protruding from the camera
for the thirty minutes that you get to film, like
there's something there. I get the reasoning behind it.

Speaker 4 (02:16:24):
This isn't a Texans thing. But if you want an
idea of how important OTAs are, we're's justin Herbert right now.

Speaker 6 (02:16:34):
He's back at ots I thought, is he back at OTAs? Yeah,
he was away for I think a month in Europe
with masson beer.

Speaker 4 (02:16:39):
Okay, all right, but like the quarterback of the team
not even going through some of them.

Speaker 2 (02:16:46):
Is Rogers going through it? Yeah he's going through.

Speaker 4 (02:16:48):
Yeah, he's going through it, but like it kind of
has to if you want to sign, that can tell
tells you all you need to know right there where
it's like, hey, Jim Harball right in your quarterback here?

Speaker 2 (02:16:57):
Oh you know he's over in Europe hanging out with
his girlfriend.

Speaker 6 (02:17:00):
To be fair, do you really need to see much
from justin Herbert? Is he gonna be the He is
gonna be the reason why you can't move past the
divisional rounde?

Speaker 4 (02:17:06):
I was gonna say, was he gonna throw another interception
in the playoffs? Is he even gonna make the playoffs?
I mean that's that's a strong possibility too. But I
mean Cole more than anything, I mean, I know you,
you know you and Wex will be out there, and
I mean and there are things to glean from it.

Speaker 2 (02:17:22):
I guess the great video of walking out with Wex.

Speaker 4 (02:17:24):
But I mean, aside from like seeing the hey, here's
individual drills and see there's Tank Dell. Aside from really
kind of taking attendance and figuring out, you know, hey,
is this guy really hurts or are we gonna see
him at all this year? Like anything other than that,
I really just again it's kind of like, just get

(02:17:46):
me to train camp and figure things out from there.

Speaker 2 (02:17:48):
There's things that we can take.

Speaker 6 (02:17:50):
Away that I think that everybody wants to learn and
by the time that we get done at the end
of at the end of the end of the week
in June. So because remember we start today and then
there's many can't that will be unfolding next month and
then it will go all the way up util I
believe it's June twelve. But there's like five things that
I want to know. Number One, you have your five
starting offensive lineman. Is Keeland Reutledge a part of that
deal at center or is it gonna be Jake Andrews.

(02:18:11):
What is going to be the role of your first
round pick they can trade on up for number two?
Who is going to be that next breakout defender underneath
Amiko Ryans. Two years ago, Kamario Laster made a hell
of a play on Stefan Diggs and he went from
being a nickel defender to a Pro Bowl cornerback overnight?
Number three, how much different is Nick Kayley's offense going
to look going into year two? You brought in all
these offensive lineman Raydon Smith, Wyatt Teller, you resigned at Ingram,

(02:18:34):
You brought a Kieland Reutlives because if they all were
known for one thing being hell of a good run blockers.
So does it look more potent with your ground game?
Do you have more variety when it comes to the
offensive looks? Do you have some spruce that is maybe
catching the defense off guard? Number four, what's the availability
of Tank Dell? You have Jalen Higgins and Jalen Nole,

(02:18:54):
both of which, if you're using a top seventy five
pick on you probably believe they will be a factor
in your offense instant on capacity. But you want to
know are they going to be a bigger role than
what Tank Dell is or is Dell going to be
valuable during this during this time period to feel like that, yes,
there still is more left in the tank. And Number five,
what's the relationship with CJ. Stroud and Nik Kaylee? If
you answer me those five things that I think that

(02:19:16):
you walk away pretty happy.

Speaker 2 (02:19:17):
Can you can you give me a second request? Can
you grant me a second request?

Speaker 13 (02:19:21):
Here?

Speaker 4 (02:19:22):
How does Aidan Fisher look? It's your show, it's it's
our show. Can you tell me how Aiden Fisher looks
with the hairnet on the helmet running down on kickoffs?

Speaker 2 (02:19:33):
What do you mean?

Speaker 4 (02:19:34):
You know, like special teams practice and they'll have people
wearing those like ridiculous hairnet things on their helmets to.

Speaker 2 (02:19:40):
Be like, oh, hey, you know he's not on your side.
It's almost like the wait, what hairnet. It's like it's
I don't even know like how to describe it.

Speaker 4 (02:19:48):
It's like, you know, they put them on their helmets
like to like let them know, like, hey, this is
the kick coverage team.

Speaker 2 (02:19:54):
You guys are the kick return team. I know how
you're talking about, Like his hair like the lettus flow
at the back, Alexander alone style, dude's bald. No, well, no,
that's not what I was saying.

Speaker 4 (02:20:03):
No, it's just like, you know, it's like to differentiate
the two sides, like almost like shirts and skins, but
for for special teams.

Speaker 2 (02:20:10):
I want to see Frank Ross freak out one time
just because of a just because of a covered Sap.

Speaker 4 (02:20:15):
The greatest coach ever, and usually Special Teams coaches will
have personalities. I remember remember Joe Marciano, he used to
be the Special teams coach for the Texans. I remember
somebody messed something up, like didn't run in their lane
or did something like that. The guy yelled at him
and rolled on the ground because he was so angry,
and I was like, God, this guy rules.

Speaker 2 (02:20:35):
I love this guy. True, true, Frank Cross doesn't seem
like he's that type of guy.

Speaker 4 (02:20:42):
No, not really.

Speaker 2 (02:20:43):
I mean maybe maybe, maybe maybe we'll we'll yell a
little bit sense, a little Italian in Frank Ross, which.

Speaker 13 (02:20:48):
I do like.

Speaker 2 (02:20:53):
True, he is a time, isn't he.

Speaker 4 (02:20:57):
I've got to believe. So it looks like he is.

Speaker 2 (02:21:00):
You get'ting taking to say he looks like John Barenthal.
I don't see it.

Speaker 4 (02:21:05):
Yeah, So maybe maybe if Special Teams is really good
this year, I'll call him the Punisher or Shane.

Speaker 2 (02:21:10):
Please don't call him the Punisher. Why Shane? He was
Shane on The Walking Dead. That's the show I never
got into.

Speaker 4 (02:21:17):
Yeah, well was it? Rick's wife thought that Rick was dead,
so then she hooked up with Shane Barenthal hooked up
with Rick's wife. Yeah, you know, there was the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (02:21:27):
You know that Rick is the sad sack at the
very end of love. Actually, is he really the guy
that's told all the signs?

Speaker 9 (02:21:32):
And know that?

Speaker 4 (02:21:33):
To me?

Speaker 2 (02:21:34):
You are perfect with Kieren Knightley, who is perfect.

Speaker 4 (02:21:36):
Yeah, Kieren Knightley is strong.

Speaker 2 (02:21:37):
But like what I'm saying is like that shick, like
that dude, that's that's Rick.

Speaker 4 (02:21:41):
I never knew that. Mm hmm. I just learned that
now too. Is he dead?

Speaker 13 (02:21:48):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:21:48):
Well, I think watching the show he died or not.
I think the actual Rick did die in the show.

Speaker 4 (02:21:53):
No, no, no, no, yeah, yeah that's what I mean.

Speaker 2 (02:21:55):
Yeah, he died in the show. The norm reads his
character die. No, Darryl stole Daryl. That's it, Yeah, darl
Darryl's still out there.

Speaker 4 (02:22:02):
He's getting after it with the crossbow and all that
kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:22:06):
Yeah, he's he's still fighting off the zombies.

Speaker 4 (02:22:09):
All right. You know, let's get back to the college
football conversation, because well, one college commissioner had some strong
words to say. Now my response is, well, then back
it up. I got an idea of how we'll discuss
right here. As we continue It's the Morning Drive with

Like he's a nice guy. Like like like you know,
like I am, I am every single time he calls.

(02:24:40):
I appreciate when Robert calls, So Robert, you are appreciated.
But anyway, you get the Astros went in last night
four to three over the Rangers, and they're going to
try to take a series tonight, six o'clock. Astros on
deck right here before you come back home, fire up
a long homestand tomorrow you also have the Texans out
on the practice field right now getting for OTAs and

(02:25:02):
Game six NBA Western Conference Finals. Tonight they're in San
Antonio with the Thunder in front of the Spurs three
to two in this series. All right. So we talked
a little bit of college football earlier, and as I mentioned,
the SEC having their their spring meetings over in Florida,
and Greg sank. As usually the case, we'll address the

(02:25:25):
media usually at the end of the day, and the
conversation yesterday came up about who's better, you were the
Big Ten. Big Ten's won the last three college football playoffs.
All right, Great, so you can say that the Big
Ten's on quite a heater right now. But when it
comes to an SEC stand, the Big Ten right now
owns college.

Speaker 2 (02:25:40):
The the the overall who is better?

Speaker 4 (02:25:43):
The SEC commissioner has an idea of who wins supremacy.

Speaker 2 (02:25:52):
Are you asking for me to go in?

Speaker 7 (02:25:54):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:25:54):
No, no, no, it was the computer. I'm guessing is
is messing up.

Speaker 4 (02:25:59):
But at least when it comes to overall, who's got it,
it's uh, I mean, he believes that it's the SEC
by far.

Speaker 2 (02:26:07):
Okay, here's the difference. The SEC has is deeper in
terms of teams.

Speaker 6 (02:26:15):
So when you look at say South Carolina, South Carolina
is probably the thirteenth or fourteenth ranked team in the conference,
compare them to the thirteenth or fourteenth ranked team in
the Big Ten right now.

Speaker 2 (02:26:31):
It's Rutgers, It's Maryland.

Speaker 6 (02:26:33):
It's a produce seventeen produce, awful produce, a single worst
program in college football right now. At the point the
point is is that you look at an Alabama game,
Alabama's gonna have its fair share of struggles with South Carolina.

Speaker 2 (02:26:46):
And nobody's gonna be shocked.

Speaker 6 (02:26:48):
Kentucky can go toe to toe with the Tennessee Florida
that has gone four and eight and six and six
and two of their last three seasons, can still put
a close call and make you sweat if you're George mulldog.

Speaker 2 (02:27:01):
You don't have that in the Big Ten. So it's
like the quantity of teams of the SEC is better
than the quality of teams in the middle tier of
the Big Ten.

Speaker 4 (02:27:10):
That's where you have the separation. And why can't understand
where Greg sake it comes from quantity and quality. As
you just mentioned, let's hear from the SEC commissioner.

Speaker 14 (02:27:18):
If you look at the entirety of our league, we
are by far the most competitive of the strongest football
league by far. But you're gonna lose games when it's
close and competitive play that So why have they Why
have they surpassed us? It's an odd ball. It's bounced
a couple times the wrong way. Indiana was pretty dominant

(02:27:39):
in the Rose Bowl last year. A lot of other
games you look pretty close margin and we've been the
beneficiary on those.

Speaker 6 (02:27:47):
They are I mean again, there's gonna be a lot
of arguments that are going to be had this season
because the SEC's moving to nine conference games. So in
nine conference games, the narrative was the SEC got bailed
out because of they being at the play that extra game.
So that's why they would always fish ten to two,
and there were gonna be a separation between them and
the Big ten or the ACC or anybody along those lines.

Speaker 2 (02:28:09):
You realize that guys in a twelve team playoff.

Speaker 6 (02:28:12):
Format because of they made this move and the SEC
agreed to it, the playoff committee is going to reward
nine and three teams in the conference because they're gonna say,
look at the schedule, look at who they face off against.
Look at this top twenty five matchup between Missouri and
Florida that actually had value. When you're talking about Maryland,
that's five and seven going up against four in eight

(02:28:35):
Michigan State, and neither of them have been ranked about
the entire year because they've looked dreadful throughout the process.
That's the narrative, like, that's the reason that happens. I
don't like to say that the SEC still reigns supreme
college football because right now they don't. At the end
of the day, you winning a national title claims who
is the better who is the better conference? That's just it.
But if you're talking about depth, if you're talking about

(02:28:57):
the amount of talent, if you're talking about the way
that these games play a major role in factoring.

Speaker 2 (02:29:03):
In and molding the college football playoff.

Speaker 6 (02:29:05):
No conference does that more than the SEC, which is
why again Saki maybe kind of a little bit too
high for his bridges, saying we're still the best conference
because you had to win the damn thing, but kind
of the deepest is not that far fast.

Speaker 4 (02:29:16):
I would say that also to the conference has kind
of cannibalized itself because Arkansas is not what Arkansas once was.
Mississippi State, same deal, Missouri, same deal.

Speaker 6 (02:29:25):
Missouri has been, Missouri's is in the top five, Kentucky
in the last five years.

Speaker 4 (02:29:30):
But I mean, it's just it's it's it's one of
those where, yeah, you can do the comparison side by side,
and that's where I get to a point here where
you know, what's the quest all the time in college
sports now revenue be able to earn as much as
you possibly can. We've got the ACC Big ten challenge
in college basketball, SEC Big ten challenge in college football.

(02:29:51):
Let's do it.

Speaker 2 (02:29:52):
I mean, they need it should happen. It won't.

Speaker 4 (02:29:54):
That's the problem because you want to avoid having these
super leagues. Okay, that's fine, I'm asking you to play one.

Speaker 6 (02:30:00):
You're gonna have the super league though, I mean, like,
when twenty thirty one rolls around, you're just delaying the
inevitable of Hey, Miami and Clemson and Florida State and
North Carolina and NC State all want to get out
of their media rights seal with the ACC because Jim
Phillips doesn't.

Speaker 2 (02:30:16):
Nobody's doing out there.

Speaker 6 (02:30:18):
Therefore now joining with the Big ten in the SEC
to where they say, why do we need to worry
about what Brett Yormark thinks about our conference? And I
love Brett your mark, and I think that the Big
twelve is the best conference in college football for it
is just a true fan because if it's always psycho
level instability, it just is. But when you get to
a super league at this point, they're just gonna say, scret,

(02:30:40):
we don't need you guys anymore. Like Greg Sanky yesterday
was like was asked about, Hey, what do you think
about about the twenty fourteen college Football Playoff? It doesn't
really matter what I say right now, but we do
know that we have probably the biggest voice in the room.

Speaker 2 (02:30:51):
And he's not wrong.

Speaker 6 (02:30:52):
Because if you want to take your ball and go home,
here's what you do. You call up Tony Battiti and
then you call it the broadcasting rights and say we're
doing our own thing. You can go ahead and have
your hoity toity national championship the way you want, or
you can join with us and actually make some money,
because that's what's gonna happen eventually.

Speaker 4 (02:31:09):
Well, I mean, and it's even gotten, you know, to
the point where college football itself is like no, no, no,
it's the NCAA thinks they can.

Speaker 2 (02:31:17):
Approach us, but doesn't have any power anymore in college football.

Speaker 4 (02:31:20):
Especially in college football, where they're like, no, we do
our own thing. We don't have rules. That's the point.
You don't want to.

Speaker 6 (02:31:26):
Try to see a guy who potentially allegedly actually I
don't even think it's a llegend anmore.

Speaker 2 (02:31:31):
I think they actually called him uh.

Speaker 6 (02:31:33):
Gambling on Turkish ping pong games, having an opportunity to
get another year of algebra.

Speaker 4 (02:31:40):
Nathan's hot dog gaining contest. He just has to find
one judge that's gonna be like, sure, he bet against.

Speaker 6 (02:31:45):
Joey Chestnut and he may have an opportunity to start
week one for Texas Tech.

Speaker 2 (02:31:50):
We're five years ago. This is beyond illegal, and you
would be kick out of all sports.

Speaker 4 (02:31:53):
And what I told you what the issue is with
with with gamblers that say they have a problem, it's
usually making bets like that.

Speaker 2 (02:32:02):
Speaking of gambling, would you like to hear some breaking news? Uh? Sure,
we'll talk about that on the other side of the break.

Speaker 4 (02:32:07):
All right there you go, got that to look forward to,
and also too, before we get out of here, just
real quick, dogs, you know what, leave them alone, no suspensions,
know anything like that. We don't need any of these things.
Talk about it right here before we kick it over
to the Matt Thoms Show with Ross. But before then,
do you want to talk to you about my good buddy,

(02:32:27):
your good buddy, everybody's good buddy, Kobe and the crew
over there at Kobe Stevens dot com, Kobe Stevens Apparel.
And when you head on over to Kobe Stevens dot com.
As a matter of fact, you know what, go ahead
and head there right now. You got your phone in
front of you, you got your computer, you got your
tablet on one of those, Well, then fire up Kobe
Stevens dot com. Because I also guarantee you that you're

(02:32:47):
gonna hop on there and see those amazing sharp looking
polos because what do we tell you with Kobe Stevens Apparel,
look good, feel good, Well, you throw on one of
those polos, it's gonna match that goal.

Speaker 2 (02:32:58):
You can absolutely be able to do that.

Speaker 4 (02:33:00):
You got t shirts, you got hats, you got shorts,
you got pants, you get ladies and youth options. And
you also got those fishing shirts too. Because the rain
looks like, at least watching the weather that it has
moved out of here. We're good for the next few days.
So that means golf, that means fishing, that means heading
out to a nice dinner, any of those things. Again,
you want to be two things, looking good and feeling good,
and Kobe Stevens Apparel can help you out with that.

(02:33:22):
Kobe Stevens dot Com got their store sixty four oh
two Lueta Road right there in Spring. It's Kobe Stevens Apparel,
Kobe Stevens dot Com, Cobby Stevens dot Com, cob Y
Stevens with a VS at the end. It's Kobe Stevens Apparel.

Speaker 7 (02:33:37):
They are on Morning Drive. Here's Dan Matthews and Cole Thompson.

Speaker 6 (02:33:45):
On a forty eight hour bender where I can still
function because of the alcohol is coursing through my veins,
or I've been sitting at a table for forty eight hours.

Speaker 2 (02:33:52):
I'm on a hot streak, but I'm delirious. Oh you
better for radio. Oh the hot streak, yeah, hot streek, Yeah,
hot streak for sure. Yeah, absolutely not me being absolutely
cracked to the wind three sheets deep.

Speaker 4 (02:34:05):
An Now the hot streak, because I mean, at least,
if nothing else, you've got to keep the burn going.
You've got you've got enough wits about you to be
able to keep winning. So I mean there is some
skill to to that.

Speaker 2 (02:34:16):
So the buzz going, it'll be fun. It is usually
the case half the time. The reason I gambles because
of its free drinks.

Speaker 4 (02:34:23):
Oh yeah, and then they take their time getting them
to you for that very reason, because you're like, hey,
where's my drink? I guess I'll keep playing. I order
three for a reason.

Speaker 2 (02:34:31):
Yeah I chugged too immediately, and then just have the
third one sitting there. Play the game, right, Dan. Strategy strategy,
there's a strategy behind it.

Speaker 6 (02:34:38):
It's called get drunk really fast and then have that
third that you're sipping on, then order the next round.

Speaker 2 (02:34:44):
So that way, when it takes three hours to get there.

Speaker 4 (02:34:45):
You finally have to go to whatever and makeshift Irish
pub they have inside, you know, and pay seventeen dollars
for a beer. That's Vegas for you right there. As
the guy said in the hangover, some people just can't
handle Vegas, and he's not wrong. So all right, so
you got that news. I was going to try to
go for three or four tonight against the Rangers, and
last night they win for to three over the Rangers

(02:35:08):
as Jordan Alvarez powering them there with a couple of homers.
And also to Game six NBA Western Conference Finals tonight
over in San Antonio with the thunder in front of
the Spurs three two in that series. Do you want
to close it out with? You're a dog lover. I'm
a dog lover, and now there is a dog which,

(02:35:33):
of course, in the minor leagues there there are some
teams that will use dogs to go and retrieve the bats.
J looks like he's in the best shape of his life. No, see,
somebody did it party on Twitter? Can I take a
guest off air? Who it was? I think you know

(02:35:54):
who it was. I have a really good idea of
who it is. All right, So Dodgers. Myhor league Pross Kendall.
George was hurt after a near collision with the bat
dog for the Double A Tulsa Drillers as he tweaked
something trying to avoid the bat dog that was running
onto the field. And apparently the dog has been suspended.

(02:36:17):
According to the New York Post, what the dog. George
is the thirteenth rank prospect in the Dodgers systems in
the top ten.

Speaker 2 (02:36:27):
And penalizing dogs.

Speaker 4 (02:36:29):
Yeah, he was visibly frustrated as he got hurt because
he was avoiding the bat dog.

Speaker 2 (02:36:36):
Poor puppy. All the dog wanted to do is just
grab the bat and just be a good boy. Be
thankful that he suspended and not put out into the pasture.

Speaker 4 (02:36:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:36:44):
I was gonna say no, no, no, no, you can't
do that. They totally can't.

Speaker 4 (02:36:48):
They held the dog, Yeah, they totally can.

Speaker 2 (02:36:53):
They're not going to they're not psychos. Well, but it
has been announced since that the dog is going to
be taking a hiatus, which I get.

Speaker 4 (02:37:01):
He suspended. Yeah, he's suspended for hurting his own teammate.
I get it, and I mean and I also understand. Look,
you know, as much as we love our dogs, we do.
We do get a little, uh, a little frustrated with
them at times and they come home and you find
an accident on the ground and you're like, she's like everywhere, Yeah,
there there is that seems like a yaw's problem. My
dogs are perfect. Pixie got through some of my beef

(02:37:25):
jerky the other day when we came back from eating
beef jerky out and about. I didn't think that she
was going to be able to jump where she didn't
find it, and she did. You have a dog that
is literally the size of what like this, about the
size of a football?

Speaker 2 (02:37:38):
You only that could jump fifteen feet in the air. No,
super dog, not fifteen feet.

Speaker 4 (02:37:43):
But now she she is quite perceptive and she always
will like stick her head to bags, like whenever you
come home from the grocery store to see, Hey, what's
in there for me? What treats do you have for me?

Speaker 2 (02:37:52):
Four hours of conversation of linebacker three talk coming your way,
damn right. Twenty hours from now. I will give you
an update on what I saw Texans out there.

Speaker 4 (02:38:00):
Let's go long form teases. That's what we do here.
It is the Morning Drive with Dan and Cole Sports Talks.

Speaker 2 (02:38:06):
Seventy nine.

Speaker 4 (02:38:06):
He's Cole Thompson, Triple Emmanuel elmart Dan Matthews, Matt Thomas
Show with Ross coming your way next.

Speaker 2 (02:38:12):
We will talk to you in twenty hours
