In this show, exotic pet vets Dr. Laurie Hess, Dr. Kristin Britton, and Dr. Amanda Marino - all veterinarians at the Veterinary Center for Birds & Exotics in Bedford Hills, NY, an animal hospital that specializes in the care of birds and other exotic pets - discuss all aspects of the care, behavior, and potential medical problems that are specific to exotic pets. The animals that will be covered include everything from "pocket pets" such as guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, and gerbils to rabbits to ferrets to reptiles (turtles, tortoises, lizards, and snakes) to amphibians (frogs and toads) to less familiar pets such as sugar gliders, hedgehogs, pot-bellied pigs, prairie dogs, wallabies, monkeys, pygmy goats, pet skunks, and others.
