Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kelly Nash. Welcome on the phone. The man is back.
Shane Biemer.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Good morning, coach, Good morning, hope you guys had a
great summer and are excited for football this Saturday.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Jumping at the bit, ready to get out of the
bar to get the Williams Price for the tailgate and
kickoff at four point fifteen Saturday, and old do menion
that's coming to town. I know you guys getting ready.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, we have been. It's been a long free season.
You know. Our players have been up here since really
the end of May, Memorial Day. They came back that
Monday night, and they've been in Columbia all summer working out,
and then the month of August is a long month
for us because you know, we don't get to scrimmage
another team or anything like that. It was literally four

(00:39):
straight weeks of practicing against each other and that gets
old pretty quickly, banging on the same people every single day.
So we're eager to play, eager to play a new opponent,
and even more eager to get back out in Williams
Brice Stadium Saturday in front of our home fans and
chaotic environment.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
For sure, Coach Biemer, I saw one of your quotes
after a scrimmage where you said you felt good, but
not great about the offense, and then you kind of
ended it by saying, but we never really feel great
about an offense. You know, in the preseason, what team
do you think was the one that you thought, this
is our best offense? Was it like maybe that twenty
ten game Cock offense that you guys had, which was

(01:17):
unbelievable that knocked off Gosh, Florida, Tennessee, Clemson, Georgia, and
Alabama that year. Maybe it was your time at Georgia Oklahoma.
Which offense did you feel.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
The best about?

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah, great question, And what I meant by that too,
was just for one, I think we're pretty good on defense.
So our offense is going against some talented guys defensively
every day in practice and in scrimmages, and then really
anywhere that I've ever been. You know, defensively, you got
eleven guys out there, and ten guys can do everything right.
One guy can do something wrong and typically it might

(01:49):
cover up you still make the tackle, Whereas offensively, you
may have ten guys do everything right, one guy does
something wrong and it ends up in a fat and
that's the way it's always been, so we're not far off.
But I meant that as a head coach, you never
feel great about anything because there's always things you have
to improve on. For sure, Offensively, for me, I've been
very blessed. I've been around some good ones. But you know,

(02:10):
my first year as an assistant coach at Oklahoma, we
were gonna score points, and that was pretty evident from
my first day in Norman. I mean, we had Kyler
Murray was our quarterback. Ddee Lamb who's now with the
Cowboys was our starting receiver. Marquise Hollywood Brown who is
with the Chiefs right now. He was our other starting receiver.
Grant Calcaterra was our tight end. He's with the Philadelphia

(02:32):
Eagles right now. Creed Humphrey was our starting center. He's
the starting center for the Chiefs right now. And I
think the entire offensive line is still in the NFL. So,
I mean, that was an offense that was just super explosive,
led by Kyler Murray. So that was one that you said, Okay,
we're gonna we're not gonna have problems scoring points and
been very rarely do you feel feel that way about

(02:52):
an offense.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
I got a feeling this week we're gonna see more
videos coming out of your office, you guys, but got
some great videos to give the game cock all geared up.
We got a couple of touches on some throwback uniforms.
Who inspires all these ideas? But I know you've got
bigger fish to fry.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, I know you're right. Justin King, who's in charge
of all of our you know, creative media. Him and
his team, they come up with those ideas. I think
they're the best in the country at what they do.
So you know, if he brings an idea to me,
I don't think I've ever said no to anything, because
he's really really good at it and has a gift
does a great job of highlighting and showcasing what we
want to highlight and showcase in our programs. So yeah,

(03:29):
he's got a lot of stuff that's always got in
the hopper ready to go. And there's always things that
I may see. I saw something on social media within
the last week in regards to another team, and I
sent to Justin and I said, you know this, save
this because this will be good when we beat these
guys later this year.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Love it, Love it. Love it.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
We always have things in the hopper ready to go,
but Justin's great at Dad. And then as far as
the uniforms, I know there were a lot of excitement
about the throwback uniforms we're going to wear later in
the year, and that's a combination between under armour and
they brought that to me, I guess a lot about
a year ago and said they want to do a
throwback game and I liked it then, and I know
the response has been really good too.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
Coach Biemer with us here and as we get ready
for Gamecock Football this year, everybody's excited, big, big year
coming down. I hate to put you on the spot
like this, but is there any players that you have
seen have a huge growth spurt this year? I don't
mean physically necessarily, but just talent wise, whatever, somebody that
we should be looking for, Like I personally hope it's

(04:29):
Nicholas Harbor. He seems like a genetic freak who could
be so explosive this year. But maybe it's somebody that
we wouldn't even think about, like an offensive lineman or
somebody that he's like, wow, from last year to this year,
huge growth.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Great question, and certainly I throw Nicholas in that BIX.
He's worked. He as a genetic freak, and he's worked really,
really hard to become a great receiver because he'll be
the first to tell you it's not just being big
and able to run fast. There's so many other things
that you've got to be able to do at the
wide receiver position. You know, I would say growth, I'd
talk about, you know, quarterback position with Leonora Sellers. I mean,

(05:02):
he's a guy that's up to just a little bit
over two hundred and forty pounds right now. He's gotten stronger,
he's gotten bigger, he's gotten faster, he's become better as
a quarterback. So that's someone that I've seen a lot
of growth in. I think you talk about our offensive line,
and last year, certainly we had our struggles on the
offensive line because we were starting two true freshmen and

(05:24):
had some injuries. But you know, those freshmen that played
for us last year on the offensive line have grown
and developed without a doubt. And then, hopefully this is correct,
we lose a really good corner in Marcellus Dial who's
now playing for the Patriots. We have to replace one
of those corner spots and it's going to be young
players at that position, whether it be Emery Floyd or

(05:47):
Bacari Slain or Judge Caller. All three of those guys
are battling it out. And all three of those guys
were freshmen last year. And it's been fun watching their
growth and development on and off the field. And think
that all three of those guys are are pooye for
good seasons for us.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Kelly always likes to talk about x's and o's, and
the first thing I want to talk about is WILLIAMS.
Brice Stadium because it's got such a great tribe that
congregates every Saturday at least ten hours before kickoff. Now
for Willis Price Stadium, we've added a lot of stuff
over the past several years. Do you have any surprises
for us? And we're going to have garnet in black
confetti coming out of the sky every time we get

(06:25):
a touchdown, which I think would be very cool.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
I agree. I'll be honest with you, I'll probably find
out about the same time you guys do if we
do have anything new like that. I think I'm kind
of on a need to know basis when it comes
to a lot of things and They know that I
have enough issues trying to just get the seam ready
to play. But You're right, it is an amazing environment
over there. We're always trying to find better ways of

(06:48):
doing things. We've got a great marketing team that handles
all that stuff, and I'm sure I know they've been
working hard getting ready for the season opener, and I'm
excited to see what all they have in store as well.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
I bet they work it even harder.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Being a CBS showed just some love, but ESPN kind
of snubbed with me be and I'm like, what's ESPN thinking?
Come on, this is one of the greatest college atmospheres
available on this planet.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Yeah, no question, It's one of those tell me you've
never been to a game at Williamsbrice Stadium without telling
pe you've never been to a game at Williamsbrice station.
For sure.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
We're talking with coach Shane Biemer, and I know that
the fall is your gott to be your favorite time
of the year as you get to get back into
the football thing. But we just are kind of coming
off a summer break and I just follow you on
social media. I see it a little bit of what
you were doing. Are there any special memories from the summers.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Yeah, certainly being able to just spend time with with family.
We try, you know, listen to you guys every morning
on my driving early in the morning. You guys are
going and listen to you as the country music fans.
So we try and get to as many country music
concerts as it can during the summer. My kids, I
feel like got to a lot more than I did
this summer. But we went and saw Kenny Chesney out
Kansas City at the Kansas City Chiefs Stadium, which was

(07:58):
a lot of fun with Zach Brown Band and Megan Maroney.
So that was a fun time out in Kansas City
and getting to go to that show. And then we
live in an amazing state, so being able to have
so many awesome beaches here in South Carolina, but you
can sneak away too, we took advantage of that. It
really had a great summer. But you're right, football is
what we look forward to and can't wait to kick
things off on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
You know, when you're the head football coach at the game.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Cox and I guess anybody in particular in the SEC
and certainly Dabos Sweeney is getting a little more of
a kind of the fish bowl atmosphere criticisms. You know,
I'm sure that your wife or your kids, people who
wouldn't say anything to you but say stuff. Maybe they
say something their kids recite. What's one of the funniest
things your kids ever came home and said that? Well,

(08:40):
Bobby Junior said so and so about coach Shane Biemer
and the game cox. What's one of the funniest things
they've come home.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
And told you about.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
First of all, I think my biggest critics are my
own kids. They don't have to hear it a kid,
because they're probably when there is adversity that we face. One,
I'm probably hearing it from them or they even get
to school, or two they may be agree with kids
at school. So they're getting older in age. I've got
a sophomore, a freshman, and a fifth grader, so they're

(09:08):
getting older in age where you know, when my son
was in elementary school, it was kind of phonny and
maybe what a little guy would say. But now as
they get older, it's not so funny. I got if
they're saying it as well, So they probably don't tell me,
but you know, they understand that that's part of it.
That you know, your dad is a public figure and
there's a lot of interest in South Carolina football, and
that's what we want. We want to be at a

(09:29):
program like this and you get to experience amazing things
because your dad is a head football coach. But there
is a trade off. You got to deal with things
like that. I did it growing up the son of
a coach as well, so I certainly can relate, you know,
to what they're going through. But you know, hopefully we
have nothing but a great moments this season. It's all
fun when they go to school on Mondays or when
my wife is out in the communities during the week.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
I think it was last year when you would normally
go to like a parent student event and then your
son said, well, Dad can't come because he needs to
get ready for this game.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah, it was a little bit more harsh than that.
It was at my son's school Halloween weeks last year
and my summers in fourth grade, and then the year
before in third grade, all the kids at his school
on Halloween the Monday of that week, they do a
just a parade around the track at their school where
they come dressed up in their Halloween costumes. They walk
around the track. All the parents come out the line

(10:21):
the track and see them. Monday for us is a
off day with our players, so it's the longest day
of the week for us as coaches. We're here early
in the morning, we're here late at night. So I'm
able to like sneak away for thirty minutes. And I
did that two years ago during an off week and
around Halloween, and it was fine. And then last year,
obviously we were around Halloween, we weren't doing so hot,

(10:43):
and I tried to do the same thing, trying to
be a great dad. And yes, it was my son
that said, you don't need to be there, you need
to be in the office work.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
As well.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
So it goes back to what I said, they don't
need to hear it at school because there's the harshest critics.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
He wants to live the good life, and I need
you to keep this in order for me to live
the good life.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
We did.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
We had a Sunday morning a week aldgo before the
first game, and we had practiced on Saturday, and then
I stayed up in the office Saturday night till about
ten o'clock doing work. So I could be around my
family a little bit on Sunday morning before I came in.
We had a staff meeting at one o'clock on that Sunday,
and my kids woke up Sunday morning and I was there,
which I normally weren't there, and all three of them
came down and they're like, why are you here? They

(11:25):
have high expectations.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Yeah, so the fans can just chill out a little bit.
There's no pressure like the pressure your own kids can
bring here.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
For Pete's sake, there's nothing that anyone can say that's
worse than what I get at home.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
We're so excited about this year, coach, and we love
having you as our head coach. We think you do
so much great work in the community. You represent South
Carolina awesome, and your passion for the city and the
state is unmatched. And thank you for taking some time
to talk to us about Gamecock football this morning.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
No, thank you so much for taking the time to
have me on. It means a lot. Love everything you
guys do, the way you promote our state, Gangcock athletics
as well.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Good Shane Bamer, thank you again.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Go let me hear you said, Oh, Cox have a
great week,
