Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, Game Cup fans and Kelly Nash Hello, good morning.
All right, So, speaking of Game Cup fans, welcome to
the Tomorrow Show Today Podcast. We got a bunch of
stuff coming down Monday, including more tickets to give it one.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Yes, who are we giving away tickets to?
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Do you remember? Yes, Scotty McCreary.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Is it Scotty McCree, I mean we we are so
loaded with contests that are in concerts that are coming.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
I've got to go back to my email.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah, I'm trying to look at it right now.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
But yeah, we have got nothing but all kind of
great tickets to give away here for like the rest
of the month, and then who knows if it'll ever
slow down.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
And it's not just Scotty McCreary concert tickets. You're also
going to be doing a special thing where you can qualify.
This might be more for me and you than for
anybody else, but you'd come with us. Come with as
they say, Jonathan and myself as we take batting practice
over here with the Fireflyes Stadium with Scotty McCreary. Former
was any of minor league based people there are.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
College basic college college, not mine?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
So he will be much better than you and I all.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Right, So we're going to have a lot of that
coming down Monday. One of the things we wanted to
do this is very special. Tomorrow's Saturday podcast is play
something that we had an opportunity to record earlier.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
I guess it was Wednesday, wasn't it.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
So Kelly first introduced me to a video that went
viral and then everybody was seeing it. I'm sure you've
seen it by now, but the USC students who just
went nuts.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Was it a barstool video? Bey?
Speaker 2 (01:17):
A barstool was at the Jacksonville State game that we
were playing last year, and the crowd was less than
excited about the game heading into it. There was not
a lot of people there. We were two and six
at that point in the season, and this fella was
just interviewed about what were you doing to get ready
for the game, and he gives an epic rant that
(01:39):
has now become a rallying cry for Gamecock fans before
football games.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
You welcome that five forty five, five forty five in
the morning.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
This is game Cock football game out. I don't know
what this is. I know we're two and six.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
I got dot.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
That doesn't mean I lose my spirit dame knowing what, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
I don't need it to lot after the game when
we win, and when we win update updates.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
So Kelly reached out to Harris and said, Hey, we
want to talk to you about what you're doing getting
geared up for game day coming in the big LSU game.
And he came in the studio, he good.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
Morning, going on, thank you guys for having me.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
I remember the first time I saw the viral video
Kelly Nash came in. He nearly wanted to put it
on the intercom system. That's how impressed he was with
your game Cock spirit. Tell me about that morning as
we prepare for another big game day morning tomorrow morning.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
That morning, you know, there was a lot built up,
and there's a lot that goes back into that. So
what I mean by that is, I'm not from South Carolina.
I'm from New Jersey. I grew up a humongous.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
South Carolina fan.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Both my parents went to the university, and my dad
basically raised me, you're either a Gamecock fan or you're
out of the house.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Now.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Ye yes, I was raised in kind of this golden
age of South Carolina football. Really, you know, I grew
up with Clowney Swearinger, I got the Connor Shaw, I
even got the late era of Garcia. Growing up in
this time in New Jersey. It was awesome, but it
kind of stunk at the same time. You know, I
go to school and all these kids will be talking
(03:20):
about the Giants and the Jets and the Yankees and whatever,
and I'm like, well, did you see Elliott Frye here
the sixty three yard field goal.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
Against Vanderbilt to win the game.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
They're like, who's Elliott fry Like I don't, I don't
know who that is. And that kind of played into
the that morning because at the time, we were playing
Jacksonville State where two and six people are down, we've
lost like a couple of straight games or something like that,
and you go to the fraternity lot before the game
just to have a good time and get hyped up
(03:50):
for the game and then head in. And I asked
my friends in the morning, I'm like, who's coming with
me the game? Like, who's coming to the fraternity lot?
Who has their tickets? They're like, I'm not going to
the game. We're playing Jacksonville State. Like I got to
sleep in. I'm like I like.
Speaker 5 (04:03):
I'm already mad at that.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
I get to the pregame at the fraternity lots or
there's no one there compared the weeks before, and it's like,
all right, so just because this team is two and six,
we're just gonna bail on them. I mean, we could
still went out and make a Music City Bowl or something.
We still have cleansing on the schedule, Like what is
going on? My thinking was, look, the team is doing
(04:25):
their best, Beamer's doing his best, like they're putting it
in honest effort, and as fans, all you got to
do is show up, waiver towels, be loud. And that
kind of spirit was lost there. So I was lucky
enough for someone to come up to me, a girl
at barstool.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
I forget her name.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
I should know her name them sorry, because she helped me, I.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Know, I know.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
However, she came up and was like, hey, like, we're
gonna do an interview.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Do you want to do this?
Speaker 4 (04:51):
And I was like, yes, yes, I want to do this,
and also like make sure the cameras rolling because I'm
not happy, and she was like, okay, let's goet they
turn Yeah, we have on their they turn on the camera,
the guy says to go, and I just go on
this fiery rant and it's just it's all built up
inside from I grew up with this team and like
(05:13):
I grew up in a really good era.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
I also saw the senad a loss and.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
The Parker White kick that we needed to beat Louis
in the tech at home, Like I've seen it all.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
So that rant is just built up of like, hey,
like I.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Understand this team is struggling, but as a fan and
the student of his university, you need to show up
for your team.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
And you're a frustrated coach. You're in the dorm with
guys from Herbo and you came all the way.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
From Jersey for guys.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Yeah, I mean, let's get a little team spirit exactly.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
I'm trying to hype everyone up, and I'm very happy
about what that video has become. It's become kind of
a rally cry for people at the school currently and alumni.
I see so many alumni comment on and be like,
this is my spirit too.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Kelly's ringcne.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
So in that video you talk about are they asked
you what? I don't even know why she moved to
So what did you eat for breakfast this morning. You
looked absolutely stunned by the question, which is a stunning question.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
But did you do you really not eat on game day?
Speaker 4 (06:10):
My friends know this, Like I'm not I'm not eating
before the game, not drinking before the game, anything, nothing
at all.
Speaker 5 (06:16):
I want a clear stomach.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
I want to clear mind, you know, like going into
these games. I mean I feel like I'm a player,
Like I'm nervous, and like my girlfriend is like, are
you insane?
Speaker 5 (06:26):
Like what what are you doing? Like that shows up
for a tailgate without a picnic?
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Pa, what do you do in a tailgate if you
don't eat or drink?
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Pace around, just around, talk with other people about the game.
I feel like I know a lot about it, and
I feel like being with other people that know just
as much and are just as passionate.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
That's that's a huge thing for me.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
I don't think I mentioned this as coach Beember. We
got the DUDI section, you know, you got the DJN there.
We ought to have her own Damn Harris section, and
you want to be in charge of us.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Yeah, that'd be the loudest section.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
That would be the loudest. So do you remember what
you ate after the Jacksonville State win because you promised,
and when we win, I've.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Got a feish.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Yes, yeah, we feasted after that game.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
I mean, if you remember too that Jacksonville State game,
that was a nerve racking game.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
The first half. I remember it being.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
Oh Man can and it was also like we needed
to grind it out. It stinks when you have to
grind out and win against Jacksonville State, But then they
rattled off a couple wins in a row. You beat Kentucky,
and it's like, that's why college football is so weird.
And you look at ODU Week one and all everyone's
down right. Even Beamer mentioned that, like all the media
is upset We're not gonna win their game the whole year,
and then they go to Lexington and they curb stomp.
(07:35):
I'm like, it's not even closed. So like, that's why
college football is so strange, and that's why it's so great.
At the same time, I mean, just the week to
week thing. I know that they're gonna show up tomorrow
and they're just they're gonna be ready to go. I
think they're well coached and I think they're ready for
this moment.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
So game day gates open is six thirty. What time
do you get there?
Speaker 4 (07:54):
I know I'll be up minimum two hours before that,
which is a four thirty wake up. I've been here
for two years. I don't remember a game with this
much hype at it since i've been here. I mean,
I went to the gym yesterday on campus at Strom
Thurman and they're the gym is closed on Saturday. Like
they're like basically they're like, don't bench press go to
(08:15):
the game.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
And they don't even close them Christmas.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Yeah, Like it's crazy, And it's just like that's the
other thing that you don't get in the Northeast that
you do get here. Just the love for the school
and the football. It's really a special thing. And it's
weeks like this game's like this that you come to
South Carolina. Even my friends that sometimes are usually not
going to the football game, sadly they're going to this game.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
It's it's so great to see and.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Well, Harris, hopefully it's going to be packed out tomorrow
and hopefully it'll be loud. That's another key thing is
that the amount of energy that we're putting out onto
the field I think can intimidate LSU and change plays
and those types of things. As you're getting ready, are
you giving a pep talk to the fans in your section?
Speaker 4 (08:57):
You know what, once I get to the game, you know,
I kind of like to be not on my own,
but like I want.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
To see everything.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
I don't want to be next to a person on
TikTok on their phone or like on Instagram not watching
the game. Okay, However, like the ODU game, I sat
next to a couple after the lightning delay, the stadium
kind of cleared out and it was just me and
this kid.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
Never met this kid before in my life. It was
a frustrating game.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
We're like, man like, like the play call, like what's
going on with the play can And it's almost like
me and a new friend in the in that section.
So like, I kind of like to keep to myself
during the game, specifically, of course, they're down, we're getting loud,
we're banging the leachers doing all that. There's fans like
me who can go viral and do all this stuff
and get to be on the radio show, which is
insane by the way things. But the guy I was
(09:40):
with the other day, I knew he was so dedicated,
and I knew that he was such a fan, and
I knew it hurt to see, you know, us struggling
against THEU. So that's where the upper deck I'm going
to give them a shout out here because those fans,
you know, those are people that just want to get
into the game and they just want to watch and
they're so in love with their football team. Being able
to be around them people and talk to them and
(10:01):
get their perspective too on the South Carolina sports, I mean,
it's really a great thing. So that's what I'm doing
typically during the game.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
I know another suggestion because coach Biemer was asking, was
you know what can we do to make wayas By
stadium a better experience. You know when you go to
Clemson at halftime, they walk down the hill and hit
the bottle again, then come back in for the second half,
you walk out of Carolina, you can't get back in.
They really need to make it so you can go
in and out because a lot of people bailed on
the lightning. Hey maybe it was a safety reason, I
(10:28):
don't know, or they just want to go eat some
more or whatever it is.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
But you can't get back in once you leave for.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
The lightning delay for the Odu game. I mean, I'm
not blaming anyone. I'm sure the meteorologists they know more
than I do. But when you put an hour lightning
delay in the middle of a game against Old Dominion,
when those fans leave and don't come back, it looks
bad on us, But Harble on television exactly like it
looks bad. But once I'm in the stadium, I'm not leaving, right,
So like I never heard. Look, I've never had that issue,
(10:55):
but it's just a warning to everyone this weekend there
is a lightning delayers.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
So Harris, you mentioned that you've gone viral and he
obviously the video that we're talking about is the one
where he's getting interviewed before the game, but there's also
another video that you went viral into, which I just
put it together in my mind here this morning where
I saw it last year. I don't remember who our
basketball team had beaten, but you were hanging around with
a bunch of friends as they were interviewing if I
(11:21):
remember right, it was the coach Paris and you're like
just mouthing the words we'll see you in March or
something like that, we'll see you, And that was like
on sports illustrated and everything. Is that a cognizant move
on your part, Like I want to go viral here.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
So last year was interesting. You had this football rant,
which is why I'm here right now. But the basketball games,
I'm just as passionate about the basketball team. I've been
a fan of the basketball team my entire life too.
My favorite live scoring event ever was the Elite eight
game against Florida the Garden that I was fortunate.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
Enough to go to.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
The fact that I get to go to these games
now and I get to sit so close. I mean,
the basketball games are so great. If you're a student
listening to this and you have not gotten tickets for
a basketball game, show up early, and if you're there early,
you can shit basically wherever you want the student section.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
It's awesome.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
So I would go to the same spot behind the
basket every game. We had a couple of games we
played George Washington non conference. I got on TV and
it was like my first time being like, oh my god,
I'm on TV. You know, in the media timeout, like
they'll show the fans like going crazy, yeah, and the
camera's on me, and I would notice, like when the
light would turn red that means you're on TV.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
So it was like, yeah, let's go.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
So that game specifically was the Kentucky game, okay, and
that was the game where South Carolina basketballlast year was
like yeah we're here, like Laman Paris is like I'm here,
I got.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
My quarters at like we're ready to go. So it
was awesome.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
So like that game, the energy was unbelievable other than
the Tennessee football game, Like that game was unbelievable. So
what happened in that viral moment was basically, the guy's
been showing me the whole game, like I'm getting text
from my friends like dude, you're everywhere right now, because
they'll just keep showing me like my face is so red,
it looks like a b.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
About the pop like it's so great.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
So basically, when the game was in hand, we're up
like fifteen or sixteen or something, the camera guy from
SEC network or ESPN whatever, you're coming on, Like he
mounted me. He's like you're coming on.
Speaker 5 (13:07):
I'm like all right, bring it to me, priant to me.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Where are we going, Like let's go, I'm ready, And
he did that and then I just point at the
mic and I was just like I will see you
in March because we are going to March Madness this year.
Like and you know, South Carolina was picked the last
in the SEC and La Mom Harris went in there
brought that team to the tournament. That game was on
ESPN and like that was an upset, so people were
watching that legit. A week later, I went to publics
(13:29):
and a kid like walk by me, I'll see you.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
In March, like you'll see me in March, like it was.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
It was awesome, Like it's been so cool and like
it's such a corny to say, but it's like a
dream come true. Like you ask anyone from my hometown.
I dressed up as Steve Spurrier for Halloween when I
was like eight years old.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
It's like a little ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
But now that I live like in mile away from
Williams Brice and Colonial life, and I can go to
these games and I can showcase my spirit and get
on live TV, be on radio. Like it's like it's
really a dream come true and it's been awesome.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
There was a tremendous amount of history between New York
and the University of South Carolina. I mean a long
time before you were born. When I was a kid,
we used to watch game Coop basketball on WYS, NBC affiliate.
They would pre imp the NBC programming, I don't give
a dad. It was Johnny Carson, You're not gonna be
on tonight because the game Cocks are playing. That was
(14:22):
Frank McGuire. And every player on the floor was from
New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. And we openly joked,
even as gamecop fans, we're the University of New York
at Columbia.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
We'll kick your ass.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Because Frank McGuire was working the subways, brother, and he
was bringing these great players down.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
And you see, there are people that do come from
these Northeast states that have parents either alumni or sure
or have been growing up with this team and they
love them, and they love them just as much as
the people down here. Though.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
It's really cool to see, like you.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Know, Gamecock fans from all around the country and when
they all come together, it's truly a special thing.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
We're about to go into the biggest game in a
while for game Cock football. Do you have a pep
talk for the fans right now?
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Look, I'm not going to scream into this mic, I'm
going to tell you guys exactly what is at stake here.
Though we've been in kind of this sec purgatory the
last few years. You know where you're eight and four,
you're seven and five. Right now, we have a absolutely massive opportunity.
We are two and zero. We just did something last
week that no one thought we could do in beating
(15:27):
the heck out of Kentucky, and now they come home
two and oh against a ranked LSU team that is,
let's be real, scoffing at us, you know, openly mocking
Lenora Sellers and his respecs.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (15:41):
Right now? You're coming into this game making fun of
our quarterback.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
Are you serious?
Speaker 4 (15:46):
You're making the wrong crowd mad right now. And if
you're a fan going to this game, just remember that
Brian Kelly thinks that he's so much better and so
much higher than Shane Beemer. He thinks he's so much higher,
probably looking over this game right now. So what I'm
gonna tell you is get to the stadium early, do
(16:06):
your pre game early, make sure you're in that stadium
before two thousand and one, and then give them hell.
I mean, I am so excited. I seriously, don't remember
a game I've been this excited for. This is such
a huge opportunity. All we can do is fans, you know,
because we cannot control what happens on the football field.
I trust coach Beiemer, I trust Lenors, I trust Dalan Stewart.
(16:28):
They're gonna get the job done on the field. What
we can do is be so loud that it makes
Brian Kelly get a freaking headache. And we could just
show this team the best support we can. Go Cox,
you want to be.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
A part of a rumble that not only is gonna
be felt when really be stars to rattle, but also
felt all the way on the upstate. Be there when
the Purple Tigers roll into town to send the message
to the Orange Tigers.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
Yes, I mean we has all tigers.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Well.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Harris Meller game legend, thank you for making some time
for us this morning. I hope you go viral again
this weekend game day. You should be the guest picker.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
For God's sake, I'm not gonna say I should thank
you guys so much. It's been so great and uh yeah,
let's get a win on Saturday.
