We Could Be Watching

We Could Be Watching

We Could Be Watching explores the wonderful possibility of free will through the lens of deciding to usually not watch the show this podcast was ostensibly created for. Every episode our hosts Shane and Sanga cover one episode of their "backup" show, Lexx, and then decide if they watch an episode of Stargate SG-1 or simply choose from the nearly unlimited amount of other things to cover instead! Is it a Stargate podcast focused on watching anything other than Stargate? Is it a Lexx podcast with an anti-Stargate grudge? Is it secretly just sort of a variety hour, like that of the Star Wars Holiday Special? Either way we hope you have a fun time listening! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

It's the Lexx season finale! Theres so many hanging threads and big ideas that don't quite hit the mark, but we talk about how they could have done worse (but mostly better.) I wonder how that next season will do now that all the budget seems to have been forcibly ripped away from them? In other news, Haxan is a really marvelous and beautiful silent horror film that is also sort of an outdated slightly preach documentary from over ...

We're careening into the climactic finale of Lexx's third season! How is Lexx going to resolve all these hanging plot threads? Oh, we're going to fuck around on a beach showing clips from older episodes for a while? Oh. Okay. That's cool. Well, we see an interesting movie too that didn't quite grab me and Sanga reflects on his Egg Creamsperience that didn't quite grab him. Beverage Hour is here.

Lexx is pretty good this week! They're doing sort of a gender Monty Python thing, which maybe is Lexx's true calling when all is said and done. And then I Love Boosters is a delight too (without a bunch of caveats like Lexx gets.) And even better, me and Sanga argue about coffee in the start. Is it weird to mix sugar and water? Or those dastardly PRESERVATIVES? You can decide, audience.

Sometimes you are given an impossible task. Lift up the boulder, find a nonproblematic twitch streamer, or finding an interesting episode of the 70's spider-man show. I guess maybe I did screw up for not picking the clone episode with the meme I mention. I'll take that L. In speaking of Ls, L(exx) is about as interesting as an episode called "Battle" would purport to be I guess. Well, enjoy us talking about Toby Fox for a bit!

Well, Dolly Parton passed like 2 months ago by the time this episode will come out, but our love for her will continue on evermore. So, you know, don't complain about this not being topical enough. I don't think I mention it in this episode but I actually like the song a fair amount too. Really made me into a Dollyhead. Lexx, you say? Oh yeah. Well. Stanley's horny again. Sorry.

*me from weeks into the future, all spirit drained from his face, the burden of truth resting upon me as I am unable to crack a lying smile* hey fellas I bet lexx gets good again soon huh.

Lexx is still bad and Stargate still SOUNDS bad so they're nowhere to be found in this summary, but you know, this episode introduces the UNDERTALE HOUR. A segment that will recur at least 3 times in the future. Maybe more if Sanga plays Delt...

Look, shout out to Wordgirl. That's a real one. Anyway, uh oh, Lexx has taken a huge nosedive in quality again! A few fun Prince moments do not save the cheap Haunted House Outlast bad guys we have going on here. Samuel is absolutely delightful (although I have a few quibbles with the dub) though. Thank you Samuel. I was going to write this episode title as "We could be Frenching" but that has a different connotation. so.

Wow, the big 3-0! If episodes were years, this podcast would be OLD (looks at my age) I mean this podcast would be 30 years young babeee haha young at heart. yeah. This episode our top 5 marks me being mostly very nice to Sanga and Sanga struggling to be a little nice with himself. We are less nice to Lexx though, which takes a return to the characters and dull cynicism of Season 2. Zeiram has me and Sanga have one of our famous sl...

Who says you can't do a Scientology run through podcast, and also like 6 months after it's a dead meme? Even our newfound faith can't stop us from talking for sports for maybe longer than I ever have in my entire life. It also can't stop us from talking about a perfectly nice episode of Lexx, where Stanley does the miraculous thing of touching a woman in a way that isn't too offputting for once. We also watch what is considered to ...

Lots of excitement this episode! After watching the most mid movie in existence and being granted some unrelated time, we ended up choosing a different one instead! Please enjoy all 3 sentences we have to say about Horror Island, and many more sentences we have to say about Henry V, the sequel to Henry IV but NOT the prequel to Henry VI, which was made earlier. Shakespeare continuity sure is silly. Anyway Lexx shows us some truly b...

In this episode I say "Alphys is worse than Gex" and I am thankful in this moment I do not have a huge audience to destroy me over such a statement. Anyway, Lexx has discovered after 50 episodes how to do a fun plot of the week story while advancing the overarching plot. Only one slightly embarrassing shower scene is made up for by some of Xev's most iconic moments, characterwise and sonicthehedgehogwise. And then, holy shit, Frogg...

I was going to name this episode "We Could Be Goring" but was struck by inspiration at the last moment. Also struck by inspiration, we talk about The Bee Movie for at least like 10 minutes for some reason along with some other less culturally important works and games. Lexx is trucking along, making some choices that give us some pause for the remainder of the season. Not quite "so back/so over" but skating dangerously close to tho...

It's the far-off future of 2003, and what better to fit our anthology format than an anthology anime thing? We also of course have the less far off future of 2000 where we finally hit season 3 of Lexx, as it bellows into full Miniseries format. So far the vibes are good, but Lexx Vibes are oily yet sticky. Who knows where they'll end up after a few weeks?

Also apparently there was a Lexx screenrant article like 2 months ago tha...

It's the ending of a very bad season of television! We celebrate the only way we know how, by looking over an Australian cultural relic in a comedy that is like pretty good. Pretty comfy! Very Australian. My American brain can only compare it to Nathan Fielder. Nathan For Aussie would perhaps be the greatest show ever made, but I guess he's doing some other thing instead. Oh well.

We start Lexx Season 3 next time! It's a whole ...

Right on the heels of the season's first great episode, we carry that momentum directly into a brick wall with "Brizon". Is it dull? Does it have more pointless sexual peril? All that and more! Well, at least we get a really nice surprise with Battle Beyond The Stars, which kicks an insane amount of ass for being a Star Wars Seven Samurai Roger Corman thing. Someone can make some good weird science fiction I guess.

Also I succe...

A musical and politics? What is this, Assassins? That's just a little joke about our Sondheads out there. We see you. Know, that's not the Cats guy, that's the other one. Anyway uh look Lexx did it for once they did what I would say is pretty close to a great episode in season 2 and I'm so proud of them. More importantly though Stargate might have the best clip show episode of all time and not even in like a meta way, it's just tha...

Perhaps this is truly a cursed episode of Lexx, such is the case when the file for this podcast episode went mysteriously missing. Luckily we found a backup and now we're here to have what is sure to be the shortest Lexx discussion we'll ever have. I guess out of all the things Lexx does this is one of the more forgivable ones since it's kind of funny but also, I can't believe I watched all that again.

Welcome, audience! Listen, you could do a lot worse listening to two guys talk about ROBOT CLONING for an hour. Honestly less people should talk about ROBOT CLONING at Thanksgiving and should instead talk about the Stargate ROBOT CLONE EPISODE, which is pretty good. Lexx is here, briefly bringing up the idea of having good character beats and then deciding to do something else instead? Maybe the future episode will pull that around...

It's a crossover episode! After Sanga demanded big freaks, we were lucky enough to get Mel to come over from the Ultra Queue podcast to discuss the biggest most Australian freaks of all. But first, we subject Mel to TERRIBLE SCIENCE FICTION ABOUT GENDER that is also sort of a LAZY PARODY OF THE WIZARD OF OZ! Sorry about that!

CW: Discussion of Suicide Attempts in the Elevator to the Gallows discussion.

I was trying to think of a joke format that would allow me to combine "It's only a Dream, Snake Eater", with perhaps some reference to the ladder climbing as an elevator? I can't quite work out how to frame it. Please let me know if you think of it, or better yet, use it yourself for your own superior Elevators to the Gallows content. We are watching ...

    DISGRACELAND

DISGRACELAND is an award-winning music and true crime podcast about musicians getting away with murder and behaving very badly. Jerry Lee Lewis's 5th wife? Dead. Sid and Nancy? Both dead. Why? Because musicians are insane, and insane things happen to them. Why did we lose Amy Winehouse at 27? Was Debbie Harry really abducted by Ted Bundy as she claims? Is Patti Smith not just the "Godmother of Punk", but also the "Original True Crime Girl"? What really happened the night of the Jay Z nightclub stabbing? What do the Diddy indictments truly reveal? All these stories and more, on artists from every genre and their true crimes, in our massive 260-plus story archive. The Dead, the Stones, Johnny, Willie, Frank, Kurt, Courtney, Gaga, Lana, Taylor, and too many to name. DISGRACELAND is music history come to life through audio storytelling as you've never heard it before, with revealing facts: yes, assassins are the real reason the Beatles quit touring—reclaimed myths: no, Mama Cass didn't die from choking on a ham sandwich––and constant reckoning between art and artist––all told through the lens of true crime. This is the podcast for the self-proclaimed "Disgos", the musically obsessed and the true crime heads; the outsiders, the independent thinkers who know that the best history is the history that gets buried. DISGRACELAND is where host Jake Brennan tells the stories they didn't want told. The kind you'll end up telling someone else. Get ready to uncover hidden truths and buckle up for truly edge-of-your-seat storytelling. New, fully scripted, sound-designed episodes are released every Tuesday. Bonus chat-style episodes where Jake responds to voicemails, texts, and emails from Disgos hit on Thursdays, and "Rewind" episodes from our archive drop on Sundays. DISGRACELAND is not a journalistic podcast. It's an entertainment podcast inspired by true events. Certain dialogue and scenes are dramatized, as is common in scripted entertainment based on real stories. Sources and credits for each episode are available at www.disgracelandpod.com.
