(00:18):
Caleb was working the front gate at the Weekend Farmers Market,
part of his community assistance group's volunteer rotation.
It was a perfect fall morning, crowds laughing, kids chasing each other between
booths, but something caught his attention.
A parked van idling just a little too long.
The driver not getting out, just sitting there watching.

(00:42):
Caleb didn't confront him or panic. He simply walked a loop,
made his presence known, took down the plate, and called it in to the local police.
Ten minutes later, the van pulled away. Nothing happened, and that was exactly the point.
Quiet awareness stopped a potential problem before anyone else noticed.

(01:04):
Real-world threats don't start loud. They start quiet. a pattern that doesn't
fit, a face that lingers, a sound that shouldn't be there.
Awareness is about catching those soft cues before they turn sharp.
When you practice awareness regularly, you start picking up on what's out of rhythm.

(01:25):
You sense hesitation, tension, or odd timing.
And while you'll be wrong nine times out of ten, the one time that you are right
can make all the difference.
The goal isn't to live suspiciously. It's just to live awake.

(01:45):
The Essential Situational Awareness course calls this the power of noticing.
It's the foundation for proactive safety. Seeing something early enough that
it never becomes a crisis.
You know, Caleb's story shows that preparedness doesn't always mean jumping into action.
Sometimes it just means being present and visible, influencing the situation

(02:08):
quietly so it never escalates.
And here's the truth. Prevention rarely makes headlines, but it's the mark of
real preparedness, calm, subtle, and effective.
That's what we train for, and that's what keeps our communities strong.
So today I want you to practice quiet awareness somewhere familiar.

(02:29):
Your grocery store, gas station, your favorite park.
Notice who's there, how people move, and what feels normal. You're not judging.
You're just noticing, just tuning into the rhythm of your environment.
All right, when we chat tomorrow, we'll take a deep breath together and talk about peace.
And we'll have another installment of our Sunday sit-downs.

(02:52):
This one recorded at the Southeast Adventure Challenge last weekend.
All right, be sure and tune in. You don't want to miss that.
