Up first today, the DEA has issued a warning about a deadly new opioid from China called nitazine.
This synthetic opioid is notably resistant to Narcan, the common opioid overdose
antidote, and is much more potent than fentanyl.
Increasing use of this drug poses a serious risk of overdose and challenges

for emergency personnel, as it often goes undetected in standard drug tests.
Parents are urged to communicate openly with their children and consider obtaining
Narcan, which is available for free or at low cost in many areas.
In other news, the San Francisco Bay Area experienced a magnitude 4.4 earthquake
early Monday morning near Berkeley.
This followed an initial 4.1 quake and several aftershocks ranging from magnitude 2.5 to 3.2.

Damage assessments are ongoing, and residents should remain alert for additional aftershocks.
Turning to preparedness, as National Preparedness Month winds down,
the focus remains on the vital importance of readiness at home.
Key steps include knowing your risks, creating a family emergency plan,
building an emergency supply kit, and actively participating in community preparedness efforts.

Taking these actions can greatly mitigate the impact of disasters and emergencies.
Meanwhile, potential civil unrest continues around the country due to various
protests and demonstrations.
Citizens are advised to stay vigilant, be aware of their surroundings,

Looking at the weather, clusters of thunderstorms are expected early this week

from the Midwest-Southwest through the Central and Southern Plains,
with risks of flash flooding and severe weather.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also forecast across the Southwest and
California, with the possibility of isolated flash flooding.
Above-average temperatures will persist in the Central and Eastern U.S.
And along the West Coast, while much cooler weather arrives in the Rockies as

Finally, a reminder of upcoming American contingency events.
The Southeast Region Adventure Challenge will take place from October 3rd to
5th at Trace State Park in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Following that, the Northeast Region Adventure Challenge is scheduled for October
10th to 12th in Hooksdown, Pennsylvania.
