(00:00):
Are you someone who is fascinated by all the pregnancy, childbirth,
and motherhood stuff few people talk about because they're too embarrassed?
If so, welcome to the motherload of all things taboo, or at least really wild and interesting.
The Asking for a Pregnant Friend podcast is based off the book of the same name

(00:21):
and dives in to all of the pregnancy, birth, and mothering topics that make
many people blush or scratch their heads.
I do all the boring research so you don't have to and bring you interviews with
the leading experts in the topics I cover.
I also share all the things about myself, Bailey Gaddis. I'm all about TMI.

(00:45):
You'll also hear stories from brave women who gave permission to have their
stories shared. So come along, my friend, on a journey into the beautiful underbelly
of making, growing, and raising babies.
Music.

(01:09):
So at my egg donor agency, egg donor and surrogacy agency, Graceful Beginnings,
we have some donors that are matched with intended parents really quickly.
And some, you know, amazing donors that either take a long time to be selected
or are just not selected at all.

(01:32):
And of course, you know, Some of this depends on what the intended parents we're
working with are looking for, but it also can have a lot to do with the donor's profile.
So one of the first things that a donor at our agency does after being accepted,

(01:52):
they submit a thorough application before acceptance to make sure that they're
healthy, they're a good applicant.
And so in their donor profile, there are many questions about the donor's background.
Her interests, her personality, her mental and medical background. ground.

(02:15):
And we really want donors to be as thorough as possible when answering all of
these questions because it's often the only way that the intended parents are
able to get to know the donor.
So if there are only one line responses to the questions, it's hard to get a

(02:38):
sense of who who the donor is, right?
Every now and then, the intended parents will request that a donor make a short video.
This is becoming more and more common because, again, they just want to know
more about who the donor is, what her personality is like.
So if a donor really takes the time when filling out her profile,

(03:03):
really thinks about her authentic answers, and is...
Really open about who she is, what her hopes and dreams are,
why she wants to be a donor, she is a lot more likely to be selected.
Donor profiles also include the donor's photos.

(03:24):
So while we want the donor photos to be an accurate representation of what the
donor looks looks like, we also really encourage donors to find flattering photos of themselves.
We need photos all the way from when they were a baby, a toddler,
adolescent, all the way up to current photos.

(03:46):
So we want donors to provide as many as they can.
I would say at least 10 photos from their younger years, at least 10 current
photos, again, that are very flattering, but also show, again, who they are.
And so that is another huge piece of donors being selected.

(04:07):
You know, the first thing that most intended parents see is the photo of the
donor, the profile photo.
And sometimes they'll just scroll right by if they don't connect with that profile photo.
So it's really important to have at least one, you know, really good headshot
that clearly shows knows what you look like.
And so what else? You know, those are the big things.

(04:32):
You want to make sure that you have correct spelling, punctuation,
and really try your best to make it well written.
So that is one of the main ways to be selected as an egg donor.
And then again, if you are asked to create a video.

(04:52):
You want to make sure that you do that in really good lighting,
maybe do just like light makeup, make your hair look nice.
And you will be, I think I will provide or one of my coordinators will provide
you specific questions to answer during the video.
It usually does not take more than two or three minutes to record this video.

(05:14):
You're going to be answering similar questions to what you're asked in the profile.
For example, what your interests are, what your educational background and current
job is, why you want to be an egg donor, maybe a bit about your personal and family health history.
And that's about it. And again, the main purpose of this video is to hear,

(05:38):
you know, what your voice is like, what your personality is like,
how you present yourself.
So you do want to put a lot of thought and care into this.
If you can like, subscribe, comment, that would be so incredibly helpful.
That will allow me to keep providing this content for you guys. All right. Love you.
