Boys and young men are in crisis.

While the last hundred years have been marked by great leaps forward in outcomes and rights for women, in this generation it is boys who are being left behind. And by some margin. From the day they start primary school, to the day they leave higher education, the progress of boys lags behind girls.

On Wednesday 5th March, the Centre for Social Justice launched a State of the Nation report on Britain's Lost Boys with a star-studded panel speaking to an audience of politicians, charities and, most importantly, the young boys from around Britain who helped shaped the report. The panel included:

  • Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester and former Health Secretary.
  • Sir Iain Duncan Smith, Chair of the Centre for Social Justice.
  • Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, former England Rugby Union Captain and Founder of Dallaglio Rugbyworks.
  • Miriam Cates, CSJ Senior Fellow and former Member of Parliament.
  • Sonia Shaljean, Founder of Lads Need Dads.
  • Charlie, a young man who has been supported by Lads Need Dads.
  • Andy Cook, CSJ CEO.
  • Luke Taylor, CSJ Researcher.

Over the coming months, the CSJ will be looking for solutions to this growing problem. This report aims to paint a stark picture of what is happening in six significant areas of life. It makes the urgent case that action is needed. This report will not cover every issue facing young men and boys, but it is a start. CLICK PLAY to hear the panel discuss our findings.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
