Once again we’re taking a break from the parallel universe of 80s metal, and delving into Q, The Modern Guide To Music and More, from 1992, so we’re on the back foot straight away as everything is spelled correctly. There’s news about Prince and Craig McLachlan, and ABBA are back, back, back etc. This leads us to talk about the brilliance of Erasure, and tribute bands.

Along the way we’re talking Mel B / G / Scary Spice, a surprising revelation about Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead, and the continuing subplot of a Billy Wirth obsession. We also shout out our friends over at the Dystopian Dance Party podcast @Dystopiangram who are basically a better version of us.

Is Metallica’s Kirk Hammett an Inspector Gadget fan? Why aren’t Americans charmed by a Gloucestershire accent? What’s the definitive version of Rocket Man? All this and much much more in PWM33.

(00:00):
all right let's just go for it no that
wasn't all right let's just go for it
all right let's just go for
it I'm joined by
melb all right let's just go for it no I
don't think I'm not sure I'm doing a
Justice all right

(00:20):
no all right let's just go through it no
I'm not sure that was
it do you want to describe what you were
doing there at the beginning of what's
up by melb the classic um is what's up
It Word Up word up oh the beginning of
Word Up by melb cover of the Cameo here

(00:42):
yeah she goes all right let's just go
through it and um she does it in a
really funny accent um and now let's
just go for it is uh I'm not should we
should we listen to the beginning of it
yes go for
it all right let's just go for it yeah
there you go all right all right let's

(01:04):
just go for it and she
looks hella modern in the video she's
all covered in tin fold she's got long
fingernails it's she looks like a Cy
robot she looks yeah like someone you
would find on the
Moon I mean I think she is on the moon
is she
um don't know she's on um you listen to

(01:26):
the playlist uh she's I don't know where
wherever Dr Evil
is looks it's in
space yeah is that the first Austin
power no it's the second or the
third that's a good question at one
point I would have been a tell you
because I had um the album of The Spy
Who shagged me um can't remember why

(01:48):
there must have been something on it you
do don't you yeah I've seen
that and I think that was eight one of
the classic HMV exports and anyone who
is anywhere near our age and paid money
in HMV will know that an HMV export
cheapest was £18 I believe it was $899 I
always used to leave the HMV export

(02:09):
stickers on with the price so I'd
remember how much I spent on because it
was so hideously expensive $18.99 I
think was a standard for HMV export you
didn't want to forget import sorry
import
um
no right I think it is The Spy Who
shagged me because I've s that record
and it says that's why I know it so well

(02:30):
it says melg because she was melg at the
time otherwise known as Scary Spice
because the Americans didn't know her
name they just knew scary SP I
think um but that must be why I know it
but I kind of bought it for this song so
I wonder why I bought it it's got
beautiful stranger on it
that no that wasn't why I bought it you

(02:52):
just buy it cuz you're a hella fan of
well I did like Austin Powers and I
think I thought the Spy shagi was
incredibly funny at the time watched it
in ages but
um but you know obviously it's not the
same as it is now in today's world but
when you really liked a film and stuff
you would buy the poster you'd buy the

(03:14):
CD you'd do everything about it
because let's have a look American woman
Any cits Time of the Season word up just
the two of us it might have been that
cuz I dragging the L no actually I think
it's draging in the line because I
really like the boy meets girl version
of drag in the line which is also on

(03:35):
um Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead
which um I'm sure it's boy M world is it
don't know um look up the song dragging
dragging the line it's um it's a good
it's a really good song it's on um
soundtrack 2 don't tell me on the babies
is dead and if you haven't watched that
very funny um very

(03:57):
8s jugging the line be go bang that was
it beat go bang not boy M world but very
similar
uh but maybe maybe that was it because
it was obviously at a time when you did
you didn't get the option to listen to
RM version or whatever
version um listen to a bit and you'll

(04:19):
see what I mean right listen to the HS
version hella funky and there's a
picture of a cassette on the screen cuz
I think that's important to know
and Christina Applegate in a cassette
you don't get better than that combo in
this hella popular song from
991 that's got to be a mistake this was

(04:41):
definitely
81 this won't come out on here oh
okay but I might I might need to find
the version to cut in so people know
what we're talking about it's good
though is it um but the well one of the
good things about don't tell the mom the
babysit is dead is her brother her
oldest brother well she's got three
brothers so there's baby brother middle

(05:03):
brother older brother and then sister
who's somewhere near younger brother's
age and um older brother is like a metal
head and he's always just sitting around
listening to metal with his friends um
so you should watch it just for that
because he's like typical and I keep
saying' 80s film I'm going to insist
this is from the ' 80s even though it
keeps telling me it's 1991 I do refuse

(05:24):
to believe this is 91 so is there metal
on the soundtrack and good question not
sure find out but he's like a total
metal her but then the the end ruins it
because then he like starts to get all
serious and he gets a proper job and he
cuts his hair and that's how yeah yeah
yeah yeah it it does it does that whole
thing but um Christina

(05:45):
Applegate is a very lucky lady because
we all know who she had a relationship
with do you know um I think you she had
a relationship with Billy worth Billy
worth who is um from The Lost Boys who
recently was at Liverpool kakan and I
heard a video today and he called it

(06:07):
kamakan so um that's a shame but um he
um he went out with Christine Applegate
which is a very beautiful
pairing um two very beautiful people I
feel like she I can genuinely only be
happy for her like I don't even feel
jealous I just feel genuinely happy for
her cuz I think oh my God imagine feel

(06:28):
like she would have guys in hair metal
bands she sort of has the look of her
she got be wor she got the best of
everything he's
like not like all oh off all day playing
stuff he's
like I'm an actor so I'm also just here
throughout the day and I'm also

(06:51):
incredibly
goodlook but yeah I I would love to meet
Christine Applegate just to say Well
done just High FIV it just go oh my god
do you still think about that I bet you
do um what we talking about oh you
talking about if there's any metal songs
I mean Modern English life's Rich

(07:12):
tapestry it's weird because when well in
the film cuz you know I don't want to
spoiler it for anyone but so um their
mom goes away leaves them with a Babys
sister who's like a real grouch and uh
then she dies and um then H ensues you

(07:32):
know it's it's the usual thing but she
you know because it's summer and her
mom's apparently gone for the entire
summer which is like three months and
they're going to starve to death
otherwise she has to get a job and so of
course she gets a job at like a fashion
industry um and she's really good at it
cuz she's like young and um David
coffney pops up looking all 90s hella
'90s

(07:54):
um being a bit of SAS and just 90 SLE
not to her but just is you know like I
work in an office um and then she's like
really good at a job because she's so
young and she's got all these fresh new
ideas and everyone thinks she's so old
but actually she's you know you know
it's that whole thing but every time she

(08:14):
pops a head in on a brother he's like a
waster cuz he listens to metal obviously
but not on the soundtrack apparently and
he's just hanging out with his friends
you know like not taking Liv too
seriously you know because he's a
teenager and it's summer um but so she
gets annoyed and but anytime You' you'd
see him he'd be with his friends like
just messing about and I've got a

(08:35):
feeling they I might be getting confused
with um various other things because
this happens a lot because that this
happens in the same scenes happen in
um oh gosh I've complet the the BBS with
KY Felman he's like a metal head and he
hangs around her wasters and it's you
know they're they're you're a was and

(08:57):
your friends are wasters what are you
going to do with your life it's that
whole thing um so it's if you've seen
the BS you've basically seen this the
metal scenes in um came out the same
time don't tell babysit dead yeah but
then spoiler alert um he um cuts his
hair and um becomes a really good cook

(09:17):
and um becomes a cook for this fashion
show that they end up throwing in her
back Garden um for the big fashion house
thing and it goes like really really
well and um uh the rest is history and
she's really big success and it's um
just go to show what happens when you

(09:38):
put your mind to it
um I think Christina Applegate yeah you
know the bit in Donnie Darko where he's
he has hypnotherapy and they're trying
to yes find out what's wrong with him
and he
starts Welling himself you know whack
whacking off as you might say

(10:00):
I think I heard in the original script
it was well Kelly Bundy Christine
Applegate but she didn't want them to
use it so he says Alyssa Milano instead
or is it the other way around I can't
remember I can't remember Donnie Darko
kid says a buy up to date reference for
you right we're not going to use any ref
I mean clear I think 91 is a bit early I

(10:23):
mean a bit late even bit modern yeah um
so we're only going to be using
references that are old for old people
okay so do you want to introduce the
podcast oh um welcome to can of Madness

(10:44):
[Music]
where we're talking about early 90s
films which makes no sense to what we're
talking about except this sort of does

(11:04):
cuz like my my main point is there is
metaling it it's relevant it's
somewhat associated with what we're
talking about now well sort of before we
get into what we're going to talk about
I feel like I must flag up something um
there's a podcast called uh dystopian
dance party uh and they gave us a very

(11:29):
glowing review they basically shouted us
out in their last
episode and they they sort of basically
sold this podcast better than I've ever
been able to do and basically I can't
understand why I genuinely can't
understand why anyone would do that
because it seems insane like honestly I
don't mean that in a insulting way to

(11:49):
them the upshot of it was that oh they
review karang but kind of they don't
really get to karang for ages and I'm
like yes that is exactly our thing I
think where we now into today's is that
15 minutes yeah we've been talking about
don't tell M the babysit is dead

(12:10):
um I I desperately try and keep things
somewhat somewhat related and it it was
the metal guy in that that's not how it
started but she but also the metal guy
in that and the lead actress in it also
dated Billy worth from Lost Boys so
that's pretty metal there there's
nothing not metal about this is what I'm
trying to say but it started purely

(12:33):
because you and all right let's just go
for it and then all right let's just go
it is a thing um if you like melb um
which we do Everyone likes
melb she's everyone's favorite get
getting back to K how how um we don't
ever stay on topic this was described as

(12:55):
a virtue um by uh dystopia dance party
and I can only recom I can only
recommend their stuff to you they are
very of topic um I mean they're
currently doing a series about the films
of Paulie Shaw right and I don't I don't

(13:15):
give a [ __ ] about paie Shaw I don't
think I've ever even seen a paie Shaw
Movie California man or which let's talk
about his metal because it's got
um uh you invited but your friends can't
come by Vince Neil on the soundtrack the
the best motly crew spin-off
record it's got lasers in it and

(13:35):
everything so bliant brilliant segue
there they are currently doing a podcast
series about the films of PA Shaw but bu
that's my poly sh which never normally
it's not a very good one I've never
normally be interested in but just
because of their Vibe and they them
getting off topic the whole time and I

(13:56):
originally found them they did a series
where they view all of the
autobiographies of the each of the
members of Kiss I'm I'm a lightweight
I've only read Paul Stanley's but
they've read all four and they've got a
lot to say about kiss but definitely
look them if you like us and God knows
someone
must I don't imagine there's many people

(14:17):
out there that do but a handful of
listeners if you're not already
listening to a dystopian dance party
they love prints they love stupid hair
metal they're sort of like the American
equivalent of us but American yeah how
sexy oh that's made everything a bit
sexier they don't give a [ __ ] whether
anyone's listening to them or not maybe

(14:38):
it's just our fabulous British accents
that are um Charming them would you know
I'm pulling I'm pulling like a sort of a
a British face you can't see it but I'm
kind of like flipping my hair back my
hair's tied back but you can imagine
kind of um hug Grant imagine me a very
pleasant hug Grant you know when we went

(14:59):
to New York yeah I thought right my
accent's going to [ __ ] wow them cuz
those Americans those Yankees they love
a British person not a [ __ ] no one
was Charmed in the slightest we were in
Time Square where there's probably more
British people than there is um
Americans I think probably the wrong

(15:20):
place maybe you went somewhere slightly
less
um touristy touristy um May maybe you'd
have a chance but your accent is it's
not great over here it's all over the
place my accent it's it could be better
okay thanks well like I said um you

(15:42):
don't just want smoke blown up your ass
all the time let's keep it real come on
keeping it real um so sois Applegate and
B worth if just you know if you happen
to want to Google an image of them two
together because there there was a a
Google image of them two together and
they both fabul Google it now just so
you can see what I'm talking about um I

(16:05):
mean beautiful
couple like ridicul like it goes Bey
like you don't like I'm a really jealous
person um but I can't even feel jealousy
when I look at him because you think
yeah well you well done on like
succeeding a life Billy Elliot Billy Bob
Thornton and B Billy Cosby that's none

(16:27):
of them
Billy worth C I mean this this is in the
period isn't it look at it oh look at
that oh look at that's that's the one
I'm thinking of like early Rock style
isn't
it look at that who's that guy I know
some guy going and these hella
beautiful I mean that's who with Brad

(16:50):
Pit wait don't forget that look at that
there a couple come on
uh no don't look at I don't I don't care
about who he's with now because I will
start to get jealous again well who's
she with
now um you know CB gossip yeah I don't

(17:10):
know she recently got a Hollywood uh
Star Walk of Fame Hollywood Walk of Fame
star on the Hollywood what did you say
good for her a star on the Hollywood
Walk of Fame yeah that she recently got
that um well we salute you Christine
Apple well done I don't have deep Cuts I

(17:31):
did tell you that okay well before we
get to what we're going to talk about no
but let's go my deep Cuts is either
draging the line or what up okay well
which which is it draging the line I'm
so sorry you next week yeah um right so
before we get to what we're going to
talk about I wanted to show you you know

(17:53):
last last time we looked at cran
contacts
1988 yeah
um there were a couple of pictures in
that magazine that we don't obviously
were ripped out at some point and I've
found them and I just want to why have
you got a picture of Bob in your
folder well reason for this would you

(18:16):
remember we talked about psychic Sally's
bior oh right that was this this is my
repository of images yeah okay okay so a
bi orbs a a fish tank if you know fish
tanks they're like a really cool looking
fish tank um okay just not everyone
knows what biob is so would you like to
describe this

(18:36):
image um well it's Guns and Roses Guns
and Roses the classic
era I mean Axel's drawn the short sh
being on the center fold but like it
literally I mean luckily his head's
slight to side it's only sort of cutting
through his neck he's wear a t-shirt
that says well [ __ ] dancing let's [ __ ] I

(18:56):
think um and it's a
girl with with her ass out there's a
there's a very popular phrase which is
[ __ ] art Let's Dance which is Let's Not
Be pretentious let's get to it but he's
done a [ __ ] dancing let's [ __ ] he's done
he's done his own little spin on it very
very clever So speaking of uh nothing to

(19:19):
do this but I saw a video today of um
Lenny
Kravitz um I think he's releasing a new
song from his new album and he receives
it through the post on a record and he's
topless and he's got no glasses on and

(19:39):
just enjoy
that and he got he's got two dogs and
then he goes come on and then he goes
out with the dogs into the garden which
is all full of palm trees like his
Garden's just full of palm trees so this
is the video the new video I don't think
it's a video is it not no it's like a
promo thing oh right like if you look up
um so um obviously won't keep you

(20:03):
waiting for this but if you go on um
Instagram and look up blend cits all
right okay well going to have to do that
on the
[Music]
phone all right you cannot look at
Instagram on your
laptop laptop not really no not really
no um

(20:26):
Lenny Lenny crap it oh he's he's got
Blue Tick yeah course he has new single
human out now he's get he's getting his
mail he yeah his shirtless looking
amazing it's 59 just rub my face in it
why don't you oh it's vinyl obviously
listen to it vinyl yeah then he's got

(20:47):
some
dogs listen to it enjoying it he's got
flares on look at his garden all pal
trees all pal trees and like like the
way we have like bushes he's got palm
trees how tropical I mean it's how the
other half live isn't it yeah but um

(21:07):
yeah go and enjoy
that right so the other image that was
uh in
[Music]
karang it's Kirk Hammet from
Metallica and would you like to describe
this
image um he's got lots of
toys so he's got

(21:29):
uh he looks like he's got a skull that
you might put some sweets in the top
maybe he's got some
Transformers um he's got Stormtrooper
he's got he's got 12in Kenna
Stormtrooper he's got Boba Fett 12in
Boba Fett yeah
um that guy looks like that zor is it

(21:52):
zorg from Zerg Zerg from I think it
might be
Voltron is I mean that really is really
is like Zerg isn't it I thought the
other one was more that this one I think
I think that's Voltron he's got an alien
Predator oh he's got that's a
um what's that that's like a um mad

(22:12):
balls something like that like one of
those squeezy balls from the 80s it's
like a really weird face a bit like um
garbage P kids and he's got Spider-Man
look at his
hand uh he's got a Freddy Krueger glove
on he's got a ton of really old Comics
he looks like he's in my office full of

(22:33):
just [ __ ] that he liked um cuz in my
office at home I've got photos of me
and um Zach gallagan
from and me and uh Judge Reinhold and me
and police
academy um anyone else well you've got

(22:56):
an actual Gremlin I've got yeah a um
like a fulls siiz Gremlin which have
hung up interestingly with a coat hook
through its back um and then the worm
from Labyrinth and I've got four
smaller
Gremlins
um and um some

(23:20):
Lego um Lost Boys and a Lego Gremlin and
a Lego Freddy
Krueger um so it's it's my setup is as
professional as his is what I'm trying
to
say um I think he's got like a metallic
skateboard oh yeah I think

(23:42):
that that uh Toy there looks like that
American thing I can't think what his
name is well that's Astro Boy okay is
that American uh
Japanese but popular American not yeah
yeah he's got a Migo Captain looks like
I was gonna say that looks like Star
Trek yeah he's got a Migo Kling on I
used to have uh Star Trek toys you

(24:03):
did um which one which characters Rica
and lady with curly hair Dianna Troy
yeah you've told me and um because they
were given to my brother who was four
years younger and he was not interested
and for some reason I just really
enjoyed playing with those two like way
way too old did you make them but kiss

(24:27):
uh no what I used to do was um I make
what was always fun and you probably did
this yourself you make a some sort of
parachute and you cheuck them out your
bedroom window and see how they
parachute down and on rer though I um
tipex his beard and his mustache so that
it looked white so you you made old

(24:48):
Riker from all good
things out of a young rer R yeah but
yeah that's called custom genuinely had
a lot of fun with those two it was
basically chucking them out the window
but just for some reason it was
um yeah don't know I just thoroughly

(25:10):
enjoyed
um playing with them um but so the I
don't know what the other toys are
there's some things I don't think we
know but he's obviously using the
Metallica Millions it could be inspect a
gadget B I think it is don't it
yeah no that you know I mean like

(25:31):
because you got your hat on and yeah
lots of skulls I think he's got some
micronauts like really really old Comics
like old mad when it was a an actual
comic rather than the magazine Detective
Comics like from the 40s Human Torch
haunt of fear so he's a proper [ __ ]
nerd so there's Axel with his [ __ ]

(25:53):
dancing let's [ __ ] t-shirt and you know
he's got Harley-Davidson t-shirt
and you know at slash his age smoking
looking cool but you know Kirk h x Kirk
H car wailing on
dude but I've seen this before and I'm
sure my best friend at school had this
picture on his on his wall or something

(26:15):
I've I've definitely seen
this nice I mean I don't yeah I don't
really know why you would put that up
when you have pictures of Lisa Dominique
Dres but there you go um right so shall
we get into what we're going to talk
about this week yeah I mean this this is

(26:36):
clearly going to have to be a two-parter
because I'm doing a q magazine going to
be doing a tight 40 which is what we
call when we're going to trying sck to
40 minutes tight 40 and I think we're up
to 30 minutes we're going to smash our
way through this magazine in 10 minutes
10 minutes okay okay so we've got Q
Magazine from July
1992 that is so modern I it even later

(26:59):
than don't tell me on the BOS said it's
been out a whole year no one even cares
anymore we are bringing things bang up
today it's got prince it's got Crowded
House you shared with me a real today
with um Conan obri talking about Prince
and um it's another funny Prince if you

(27:20):
find stories about prince it's just very
funny because he's a very funny
individual and uh he's kind of living
the life that I would want to live where
he just a bit weird all the time but uh
con Bine describes seeing him as he
looks like APR statue like he's like
made out of porcelain like he's so
perfect he's so

(27:41):
perfect and he just appears all the time
he just appears and he just sort of
disappears um but yeah so so I thought
this uh magazine was very AB there two
there's two articles I want to talk
about in this and they they seem very
of the moment but we we will get to that

(28:01):
so yeah the modern guide to music and
more big old picture of you two on the
cover
um there's a there's an ad for even
better than the real thing from Acton
baby
and big old condom on the ad but that's
thankfully not used unpleasant So

(28:21):
Stories so this is the new section this
is this is what grownup people call
Mayhem okay um so first off toy Prince
on Prince's antibod and tour C page 62 a
proper ER of mystery and Intrigue in
regard to female Liaisons both artistic
and social was carefully maintained
inevitably there were the after show

(28:42):
foray into Australian Club land with a

the question of the thank you to Kate
Bush on the diamonds and pearl sleeve

(29:03):
has been revived a source close to the
Suburban songstress avered that contrary
to earlier official statements she had
indeed recorded with Prince though it
was unclear whether the results would
appear asked to confirm or deny the
starry conjunction two senior purple
spokes people replied with both purple
spokes people yes and no so Prince

(29:25):
recorded something with Kate Bush but I
don't think that's ever come to life has
it is that in the vault I think so yeah
not I've heard I mean it's not
surprising of him cuz he just loved all
music didn't he he was like into pretty
much everything but I mean I'm sure
someone out there would be able to tell
us whether what the story is about that
I mean she's she's pretty reclusive you

(29:45):
don't hear much from her dear I mean we
don't she never gets in touch with us
but but like you don't she's rubish at
texting we've got like a WhatsApp group
you me and her and she never like never
joins in we put put stuff even just like
hey did you see that funny thing on that
thing that time and then you'll be like
yeah and then just silence for her it's

(30:06):
quite rude actually we we're constantly
telling her how much we like December is
Magic again I keep putting Gifts of her
up and she not even like she should even
react to them it's at this stage it's
getting um it's just embarrassing for
her really because she's the one who's
looking like her we close I've got
another story for you I
keep I'm having trouble with you saying

(30:28):
story and it's spelled story and it's
you know like there's not stories SP
with the k or something I'm just doing
it's grown up it's for grown up people
sort of broken my brain with I'm
expecting everything to be spelled wrong
and a bit weird normal service will be
resumed when we get back to karang but
for God's sake spell everything with a c

(30:50):
yeah Q didn't even spell things with
spelled with a k
one of this year's most unlikely
couplings has Craig mclan former Aussie
soap star oh everyone remembers him I
mean were you a fan
OFA were you a
fan of Henry because um I was a fan of

(31:13):
Jason Jason all the way weren't you um
co-writing in Los Angeles with kiss
guitarist Paul Stanley the hero of his
teens together they wrote a track called
a lover like you for Craig's eagerly
anticipating new album I think that's a
bit sarcastic as isn't it which of
course is purported to display him in a
more quotes adult mode

(31:34):
oh that really happened I mean according
to Q would make it up
wow all right so the first article that
I wanted to get into the new Originals
it's about Abba Abba a back or abber
kind of back abber aren't really back
but basically the upshot of this is bjor

(31:56):
again who are a Australian abber tribute
band um and they're they're sort of
quite big at the moment also uh eraser
of released their um ABA es GP
nice and um You2 and Nana are on their
case so it's just talking about like
basically it's

(32:16):
1992 Abba were painfully unhip for 10
years but all of a sudden people are
sort of talking about them again and
sort of reappraising them um so this is
this is a about um bjor again and it's a
quote from the very real very Swedish
bjoras quote I'm flattered by the fact

(32:38):
they're doing it in a way the unbearded
swed concedes quote I'm a bit offended
that they impersonate us in a dialect
that resembles the Swedish Chef from the
Muppet I don't have that heavy an accent
do I if they take that away fine I've
only seen them on TV but I hear they do
it very well I can't really explain
their success but if people can't have
the original

(32:59):
so I I thought this was really
interesting because obviously right now
we've got what they called abber Voyage
sort of CGI Extravaganza where it's not
even people but this is
Holograms um they're not Holograms are
they probably
not
um so 1992 looks to be the year of ABA

(33:23):
Revisited uh poor having secured the
group's back catalog are planning an
Autumn offensive leading with a 4 cd box
set Beyond again have spread the word as
far as wogan in The Late Show you two
are playing Dancing Queen over the house
PA on the zoo tour and now aasia have
released ABA esque a new EP of ABBA
covers lay your love on me vule Vu SOS

(33:44):
take a chance on
me uh to me the pop charts haven't been
the same since Abba's demise reminisces
arer
singer and long-term fan Andy Bell it
was the first time I'd heard gorgeous
Harmony and Angelic choruses that made
you feel really elated I love the fact
that when they went to make disco like
vul Vu they fully understood

(34:05):
it so were you a fan of um aasia doing
ABBA songs because I know we're I was
fan of Aria so yeah you're generally uh
I mean what what was the appeal of aasia
for you um I don't know what you can't
like about aasia I mean there's a lovely
picture of him sort of as a devil with I
mean that is a good picture quite an

(34:26):
alarming Cod piece he's wearing
um yeah
just I I don't know how I
mean cuz I mean i' class myself
sometimes is dead inside and even I like
them so I don't I can't say you dead
inside you won't like them but um no
there's just nothing to not like it's

(34:48):
fun pop upbeat good
songs um we
had
um the the hits on tape where
um and just used to listen to it like on
Loop just loop loop loop all the time
the best of yeah and it used to start

(35:09):
and end with the same song which was
can't remember get bring it up because
it was so because obviously on that fine
except that on
tape um what that means is when it's
flipp into the next side you listen to
that song again um which it have only
come out on tape surely first time so

(35:30):
was it was it called po it was called
yeah I think it was pop 20 hits there
you
go okay who needs love like that is the
first track oh God so many good songs in
it yeah there you go oh yeah Told You So
on tape you go from who needs love like
that to who needs love like that to who
needs love like that and then you just
bounce back and forward but you have you

(35:51):
know bangers in between so it's not a
problem and a little r down you got
sometimes the circus a little respect
you surround me chorus Breath of Life
Heavenly absolute brilliant songs it
doesn't have to be Ship of Fools stop
blue Savannah love to Hate You Take
shance On Me ol more Victim of Love
chains of Love drama star am I right who

(36:12):
need like that it's
ABS absolute bangers brilliant
absolutely brilliant if you hat my
favorite right now I don't
know maybe drama um but also Heavenly
action is chorus as well
how does chorus
go it's um I can't sing it because it

(36:33):
starts with like a noise play
it don't they all start with
um bear with us isn't it the one that
goes and they covered up the
Sun the to FL
away and the fishes in the sea got to

(36:56):
see
we don't need to play it now well it
might not be that one I think it
is there you
[Music]
go um don't get confused this isn't um
about to be me singing in a second

(37:18):
it's you never
know oh
[Music]
he's attacking a wedding cake with a

(37:39):
carving
[Music]
knife this is the most replayed
bit this one this won't come out it'
just be us coming out on this
yeah for my uh CDT lesson once in CDT

(38:02):
they had to they made you for some
reason um draw like
a album cover or something I like I
can't remember what the brief was but I
made an album cover for chorus by ER
Asia and I did a tree and all the
branches spelled out chorus it was it
was it was hella good you don't still

(38:23):
have that um no but uh so
yeah there you go there's
my fun fact CDT
lessons no I was I was going to tell you
about no it wouldn't be appropriate to
tell them well you can't leave us
hanging you can't you can't queue up a
story and then not a teacher in our CDT

(38:46):
lesson I thought I've told you this is
this the rud thing you wrote no no no no
no no no that no I'm not going to tell
that no well she's not listening it was
a te no that was a different thing okay
um uh so we went to the teacher and um
in CDT it's like in um you know any

(39:07):
lesson like that if you've ever had one
a bit like in
um um Detroit city where they want to go
out and the teacher just like getting on
with stuff and like they don't care
because they you know they've set you
off with the task and they just want to
do what they're doing um but he was
writing a letters to someone this
teacher was and uh it was obviously a an

(39:29):
xflame or something like that and so we
kept going back to pretend that we had
something to ask him so that we could
read like few lines few no cuz no cuz he
was in front of us with a letter like
upside down so we had to keep going back
to S read like a little like a few extra
words and go back and keep going back to
go oh oh what did you mean by wood um

(39:50):
and then he' be like you know wood and
we like God yeah all I would right right
and then we trying read like a few more
words and I'm not I'm not going to read
because that would be an incredible
invasion of privacy um but I'll tell you
after you can't no no no because gu will
not be listening no you never know these

(40:11):
are real human beings with real feelings
it's not appropriate um but he was just
writing left to someone but as kids that
was very funny I mean this sounds like
The Simpsons episode where it was a bit
like that like Edna crapple falls in
love with Gordy who's yeah they made him
yeah sensitive love letters are my
specialty Dear baby welcome to dumville

(40:35):
population you how I'll be inoculating
babies in campuchia my heart will always
be with you that sucks how about
crocodiles bit off my face anytime I
hear the wind blow it will whisper the
name oh that's very good Lisa PS I am
gay dearest Edna I must leave you

(40:57):
why I cannot say where you cannot know
how I will get there I haven't decided
yet but one thing I can tell you anytime
I hear the wind blow it will whisper the
name
Ed maybe someone in the class has made
so just just say what just say a few

(41:18):
words of what he wrot no no I can't
can't was it was it spicy no it wasn't
no it wasn't it was genuinely heartfelt
and that's why I can't say it cuz it was
it was like it was emotional it was um
I'll tell you after I'm sure I've told
you but so this teacher was the one who
set us off on the task of um do an album
like do an album I got a letter to write

(41:40):
people um I got to wo back somehow I
can't possibly write a letter in my own
time it has to be while I'm teaching
these kids how to do Woodwork and metal
work and whatever CDT was I think just
communication design and Technology I
believe right how did you how did you
write ER Asia was that also in a

(42:00):
tree not sure I think it was just at the
bottom and then cor Us in the tree I
think for memory not a fascinating story
but it's a story
nonetheless okay I'm going to read you a
bit more of this article yeah um so
talking about beond again the leading

(42:21):
light of Australia's covers band scene
brackets the present rash includes the
Australian door the rolling clones and
Elton Jack beö again have no idea they'd
enjoy such success at the end of their
second National UK tour they play the
reading Festival below the Beasty Boys
who've asked bjor again to support them
uh on the day headlin by Nana no

(42:42):
Stranges to be on again as gigs
themselves apparently um and they make
they make uh references to like
R uh playing does your mother know in
their sets cuz they cuz it's Q they have
to mention rvm and they have to mention
youo
we've mentioned a earlier today like
this was when people were just first
starting to get the idea of cover

(43:05):
bands okay was it like tribute bands so
what's your feelings on tribute bands
I've seen the Australian doors and I've
seen the counterfeit Stones not the
rolling
clones um and we did see an ABA tribute
didn't we when we were on holiday that
time oh yeah but we were on an all
inclusive and we were hammered yeah we

(43:27):
that was the night when we
had I cuz in the all-inclusive it was
ridiculous you know you'd ask for vodan
Coke and it be like all vodka a bit of
coke like which is sort of fine except
that it then ruins the next day your
holiday cuz you were terrible and
um uh I mean it was very fun but I'm not

(43:48):
sure if we watched it like
sober I can only remember them doing
about four songs yeah they weren't on
for very long they been over 3 hours
following you well they didn't play does
your mother know which my favorite but
did they not though no but the guy play
when they came out 20 years ago the guy
did play a whole lot of love for some

(44:09):
reason really yeah yeah just a little
bit remember that well because it's like
an abber tribute band playing lead
Zeppelin that's weird like just just for
a few that you can remember it just for
a few seconds like as they were I
remember just like um soort kids dancing
you know like cuz obviously when kids
are on holiday they all stay late and
they're all excited um so there's lots

(44:29):
of kids who were just up really late and
uh like dancing on the dance
floor um and that's right I remember one
of the women asking the kids if they'd
SE mam Mia because obviously that's all
you can talk to a child about isn't it
you can't say how do you remember that
well because I don't know I don't know I
just remember um but other tribute bands

(44:51):
I don't know don't really think of I
don't know I can't think of any well
we've been
see musical
box oh right does that count well yeah
they're tribute to Genesis are they um
and we saw that Jethro to
Tribute right and didn't we see Guns and
Roses tribute but I think because they

(45:14):
weren't things that I necessarily wanted
to
see that um it just s registered as um
an event that I had to be at rather than
else well what IDE Ideal World if we
could if we were going out this weekend
yeah and there's a there's a tribute

(45:34):
band on yeah who who would you like to
see uh well okay good point because we
have seen a we went
to
um a thing at a hotel where it's a three
course meal and a tribute act which is
you know like what you do when you're 70
but um we did it like 20 years ago um
and it was L witchy it was and that was

(45:56):
that was fun and a sort of chicken in
the basket lunch dinner wasn't it it was
proper oldfashioned but it was fun it
was really pre veganism but yeah um he
was good because he did all the lony
hits and then just started going into
other stuff like he play ladies night
didn't he yeah and stuff like um who

(46:18):
would it be like
um oh my God Luther Andros and people
like that and it was it was it just went
into other stuff that you'd all Al like
if you kind of like L Richie um it was
good yeah he looked a bit like him
didn't he um yes s of remember I mean it
was just he was just singing along to
back in tracks wasn't he he didn't have

(46:38):
a band it good that was good oh we saw
that Freddy Mercury guy didn't we that
was again with a that wasn't with a meal
yeah God we we sound like we're on a
cruise in our 60s so we went on a saga
cruise I did hear an adver for Saga
Cruise the other day and he said if if
something really weird like if you're
not surprised or taken back each day or

(47:01):
something you get your money back or
something and I thought well I'd get my
money back because it takes a lot to
surprise me and like I'm so sort of
unimpressed generally by things that you
know I'm meant to impress like I'd be
really impressed by you know something
stupid but nothing that was meant to
have achieved that but it did say that
you have to let them know within 24

(47:23):
hours or something so you got to get on
the cruise be really unimpressed
straight away and then let them know
while you're on the cruise I think still
so you can't wait till the end and then
get home and go n that was [ __ ] I don't
think that's the point but um so if
anyone is going on Saga Cruz looking to
that because if you're not impressed in
the first 24 hours I think you can get
your money back or something check the
teas and if this is not my
responsibility if you don't get it um

(47:43):
yeah this is not paid this is not paid
advertisment by Saga I'm not affiliated
any in any way I'm not a lawyer so don't
come at me if you can't get your money
back but it was something weird but it
really really weird like if you if your
breath hasn't been taken away or
something you know something really
weird like well that doesn't
happen it's like when we're watching liy

(48:05):
Once and he said like LOL he was making
fun of the word like LOL and stuff like
that and he's like the most you do is
just breathe a bit hard out your nose or
something it's like yeah like that's
reality when you're really laughing
nowadays it's like like that but so
taking your breath away on even on a
cruise is there's probably small print
saying

(48:27):
we're not this at all yeah maybe I think
they're just hoping people don't claim
but and oops i' I've put it out there um
because we're talking about being old
Saga
crues not affiliated not sponsored
talking about talking about the elderly
um it this is not an article about Elton

(48:49):
John but it's about Bernie torpin who as
you know writes all of Elton John's
lyrics and I read through this and I you
know it's
fine the one thing that I think of when
I think of Bernie torpin is at some
science fiction Awards he introduced
William Shatner performing Rocket Man

(49:10):
good evening in 1972 when Elton John and
I wrote Rocket Man it became very
popular among the listeners due to the
interest in the meaning of the song now
in 1978 at the science fiction film
Awards I'm truly proud once again to
present present my rocket man as
interpreted by our host William Shatner

(49:31):
have you ever seen the clip of William
Shatner doing Rocket Man in a spoken
spoken yeah yeah and like he gives him
this very effusive introduction and it's
just you know it's William shman just
talking you've met William shner I I've
sort of stood next to him to him my
photo taken it's more than I've done I
mean he's a ledge isn't he I've got I've

(49:52):
got a lot lot of mention that I've got a
lot of time for William Shatner but it
should we that you'd mention William
Shatner and not mention that you stood
next to him forgotten I'd forgotten I
mean he just he just sat there and you
know we just sort of stood next to him
and grinned like tell everyone what you
did
uh to meet

(50:15):
him
uh went to a Star Trek oh
wa Jesus CH I would have thought
obviously it was a Star Trek convention
neily where else where else would he be
oh he's only are you trying to tell me
that Shatner only exists now at Star
Trek conventions he literally doesn't

(50:35):
exist anywhere else he could be in
between places at all he's only at Star
conventions and that's it is how he
telling me it's all he telling me it's
all he telling
me right in in my head I know the whole
story I realize that our dear listeners
don't know the whole story that's what
you that's you it's literally what you
complain I do all the time I know I know

(50:57):
and it's terrible um yeah so I went to a
Star Trek convention and I got a
photograph with the man himself um and
was very excited um because you know
he's a ledge and then we went to the Q&A
and then every time he was asked a
question he's a very good orator but
like he literally didn't answer any
questions like someone someone would say

(51:19):
do you remember when you filmed Star
Trek that was good and then he just talk
about you know horse riding for 20
minutes you know he just had he had P
that he wanted to get to but he didn't
he wasn't really that bothered about
like someone would someone said what
advice would you give to the writers who
don't seem to be able to write Star Trek
anymore and then he just talked about

(51:39):
something completely different he just
obviously wanted to you know just just
go off but um yeah he's he's allege and
and I I I genuinely like his version of
Mr tambar Man have you heard his Mr
tambar man I've Heard lots of spoken
word things he does Lucy in the with
diamonds and he does Mr Tambourine Man
and he does them in a sort of
Shakespearean monologue but the music is

(52:02):
like proper it it sounds like Star Trek
music' done in the 60s it's that s sort
of slightly weird
psychedelic stuff but uh yeah so look
look him up yeah okay well let's let's
come back to it let's come back to Q
number 70 uh from July 1992 there's your

(52:24):
there's your episode your filthy animals
um yeah 50 a tight 56 that is what all
the crap though it might be a tight
voice uh I never really C crap why don't
tell M the babysit dead official trailer
2024 holy [ __ ] what just there is a

(52:46):
remake that we didn't know about like
the same thing that's
um fine but I'll stick with my but is it
weird that we talked about don't tell M
the babysit dead for about half an hour
I kind of just ignoring that picture
above that says don't tell when the
babysit is dead official trailer

(53:07):
2024
uh there you go that's your film
recommendation for this week I don't
know the the thing is
though it's kind of it's just it's a bit
like trying to make home alone now in
that there's there's elements of don't
tell on the babysit is dead that are

(53:27):
believable because of the time so you
know she can't get in touch with her mom
or tell people or whatever and she she
doesn't want her because she don't want
a m coming home but like there's no
mobiles there's no social media so there
all like they explain that in the
trailer she's on a retreat you can't
talk to them okay but okay right chill
out um but the goofiness of films that

(53:52):
were made in the 80s and '90s
are are um fun and nostalgic because
they were believable because it was such
a different world whereas now it's like
you'd stay at home watch Netflix the
whole time like wouldn't you well no
kids would want to party don't they and

(54:14):
I said J want to stay home and watch
Netflix go hiking on the weekend and not
drink um but with you kid with your kid
brother and
sister I don't know I just I don't
know I just think the world's a lot a
lot less interesting a place now and so
I just um and in the 90s um Christin o

(54:37):
was able to come up with all these like
hot new like she they were like um what
she did was did um like uniforms so
because her boyfriend worked in like a
van selling hot dogs he was just like it
like clown BG I think it was and um uh
so she did like um outfits for you

(54:59):
should watch it because it's very funny
now uh like waitresses and like BB you
know stuff like that and they were all
like proper 90 like they were so 90s it
was painful but like you don't get those
kind of extremes of this is a hot new
style doesn't this look different and
new and like this is going to blow

(55:21):
people away cuz now you could put anyone
in sort of any clothing and they' be
like I I've seen seen that wouldn't you
yeah do you know what I mean you don't
get that sort of
extreme of this is new and hot and
interesting and this is a bit Avant
guard even though you just put a a a
teen in a slightly weird waitress

(55:42):
costume that looks a bit futuristic so
therefore it's '90s do you know what I
mean do you know what I'm trying to say
yeah that the
um we are so used to seeing variations
and versions of almost everything now
that nothing's a surprise or shock
really whereas back in 91 if she came
out and saying look I'm going to dress

(56:03):
this waitress like this and it's just
slightly slightly modern you're like oh
my God this girl's like a fashion Guru
don't you think like the audience that
this is aimed at are going to be young
kids who don't have those cultural ass
they'll be like Jojo saying she's
invented gay pop because she just
doesn't think that exists because she

(56:25):
doesn't have that cult
this girl in the new one could put
people in exactly the same clothes and
it's going to blow 15 old a t-shirt over
a long seeve top and be like oh my God
it's like the fashion
future oh my God what's she doing it's a
t-shirt over a long sleeve

(56:46):
top um yeah good point
yeah oh wait are you saying I'm so old I
have so much life experience now that
nothing surprises me but I've forgotten
that there are people younger than me
who still get surpris stuff is that what
you're saying well you might say you're
jaded

(57:07):
um wow okay it's harsh reality check for
me but thanks for that cheers uh do you
want to leave our um handful of
listeners with a
message
um we should look no I can say we should
look up Don't Tell Mom the babysit is
dead
um on Rotten Tomatoes firstand and

(57:31):
uh new and a ridge but no that'll be a
waste of time not really interested in
whether it's they think it's good not it
is
good um yeah take that critics yeah
shove that in your critic
pipo
um no I don't I don't have any
insightful to say okay well um take care

(57:54):
of yourselves stay metal stay metal
oh and follow us on Instagram and uh
leave us a review which no one ever do
do you ever encourage people to listen
to the playlist that you create cuz you
create playlist for each one I always
forget and I some people might not
realize that the playlists are just the
songs that we cover other than it's not
nothing to do with us talking don't have

(58:14):
to listen to our jibber jabber yeah you
don't have to listen to us talking but
you can just listen to the songs that
you pick
out and various CLI they going be a bit
weird mix yeah cuz I'm not sure whether
anyone's going to listen to these cuz
it's not just metal it's it's random
stuff we talk about well I'm not
imagining someone sits down for an

(58:35):
evening puts the feet up has a nice cup
of cocoa and watches the entire playlist
but if you're curious about any of the
things we've talked about why do you
watch it Grandad when you just listen to
it because it's not just songs it's like
