Today's guest is Energy Healer Sandra Boatman, who helps people to make a difference, differently, through understanding themselves as powerful creators. Sandra discusses how understanding that we and the world around us are all made up of energy can help shift our feeling of helplessness around the issue of climate change. Four practical ways to shift one's energy are discussed, including EFT Tapping. As a bonus, Sandra and Christine do a round of EFT Tapping on feelings of stress and anger.

(00:01):
Welcome to the Climate of Joy podcast,
reclaiming joy and healing in the climate emergency.
This podcast is being recorded on the traditional and unseated territory of the peoples and the song and first nations unseeded means that there are very few treaties to acknowledge and compensate the original caretakers of this land.

(00:34):
Hello and welcome to the Climate of Joy podcast.
I'm so glad that you're here with us today.
This is Christine from Climate of Joy and my special guest today on our second Climate of Joy podcast ever is energetic healer,
intuitive and just all around in amazingly talented woman and healer who believes in making a difference differently.

(01:04):
My friend Sandra Boatman,
who's beaming in from across the the pond in the UK today and welcome here,
Sandra.
Thank you very much for inviting me.
I'm pleased to be here.
Yes.
Would you like to expand and uh fill in for our listeners any,
any more specifics other than you're just this amazing intuitive energy worker?

(01:26):
I think you don't set the bar too high,
will you?
Yes,
I,
I do work with in many different fields.
Um I do coaching,
I do energy techniques like tapping,
I do neural linguistic programming.
Um envision all those sorts of energy based um really important techniques that allow us to move our emotions because we're emotionally based creatures and help people to make a difference in a,

(01:55):
in a different way,
as I've said,
and I am passionate about linking this to the current climate emergency as well because it's my belief that we can all if we decide to do so and we learn how we can make a difference with our energy and clearing our own emotional states if we're in a bad way.
So I,

(02:15):
I work on sort of four principles,
which is that uh we,
most of us don't know how quite how powerful we are.
We,
we just don't know,
we're not taught this.
Uh we can find out later in life,
but there are ways to learn and appreciate what we do.
There's a massive ripple effect that we have on.
So,
so many levels.

(02:36):
Um Our thoughts affect our bodies,
um our thoughts and our feelings and our actions affect other people and obviously other people and other energies affect us as well.
So that goes out whether you're aware of it or not.
And then there's my almost my favorite,
which is the starfish principle,
which is throwing one starfish back into the sea.

(02:58):
No,
there's hundreds of thousands to save,
but just that one made a difference.
And then there's taking action and I feel today that a lot of people are stuck and feel powerless and despondent and afraid um and inactive because of that.
But I think if we can persuade people that they have an amazing capacity to make a difference just by working on themselves,

(03:22):
it doesn't have to be costly or anything like that.
It,
they can just do something and if we all come together,
we can make a difference to our future.
All right.
So let's,
do you want to uh have a conversation then about making a difference differently specifically in terms of.
So,
um we've talked,

(03:42):
both talked about we're living in a time of climate emergency.
So there's a planetary crisis uh on the one hand,
and then we have this um amazing science that's telling us that in fact,
the physical world,
which looks so solid is,
in fact,

(04:02):
at it's a very core just moving energy.
And so,
and that's,
and that's sort of what your focus is,
right?
Uh Helping people understand the implications of that is that absolutely.
Absolutely because,
um you know,
we are space,
we are energy,
we live in an energetic world,

(04:23):
an energetic universe and we can harness that and people don't because they,
they see and they feel solid matter,
but they don't realize it's not.
And of course it is and our physical bodies can get hurt and damaged,
but we can actually appreciate how powerful we are and do something with it.

(04:43):
And that's,
I think it's a missing,
we're missing a trick um in not using that.
All right.
And so give some if it's not a contradiction in terms of concrete examples of how people could work with energy.
Well,
if I,
I know that you like tapping as well,
emotional freedom technique,
that is quite amazing if you have somebody with a problem that is causing them to feel very low,

(05:11):
very stuck,
not doing something and you tap on it for perhaps 15 minutes.
They can feel completely different.
They can't associate the same feelings or thoughts or beliefs about that subject anymore and they go out and they have a better life for it.
And that's just by tapping various acupressure points on the face.

(05:33):
And that's so simple that it,
it's too,
it's almost too simple and people aren't aware of it enough,
they don't use it enough.
There are many,
many resistances to,
to doing what's good for us as we all know when we've tried to lose weight.
Um You know,
the temptation is,
is,
is to be to go give to the ego and say I won't do that.

(05:56):
We have to be a little bit stronger than that we have an emergency to face.
OK.
So I'm thinking we're gonna put some tapping resources in our show notes.
If people want to get some more information,
there's a lot of free information on the internet.
There's a lot of youtube tappers who are quite good.
So we'll put our favorites into the box and I'm thinking before we wrap up,

(06:20):
we'll do some tapping uh together maybe on stress and overwhelm related to thinking about climate change.
Sound OK.
Absolutely.
Right.
So,
before we do that though,
if somebody doesn't want to try tapping or they want an extra tool in their toolbox,
what else would you suggest for people?
Well,
there's always the deep breathing,

(06:42):
the meditative breathing almost and the,
the awareness that um we can quieten our minds which cause an awful lot of trouble to us.
Sometimes they never stop thinking.
And the problem with our thoughts is that they go past us and we grab hold of ones that don't serve us and it's that ability to let them go past and be open to our inspiration and our intuition a little bit more.

(07:09):
This is the other thing.
People are so busy these days that they don't actually know how to trust their intuition.
And it's a good thing to be able to teach people how to use their intuition,
how to access it,
how to tap into it.
It makes you feel more powerful.
II I don't,
I think powerful is a,
a misused word.
It has bad context in terms of leaders and wars and things like that.

(07:33):
But we are powerful.
All of us,
each of us,
we're all incredibly powerful and we have to realize our own power.
If we go quiet,
I'm not the best meditator in the world,
I,
I have to hold my hand up to that but it,
to take deep breaths,
calms your body.
It calms you on the vagus nerve and it allows you to get out of stress quite quickly.

(07:55):
You just breathe in for a number of counts and breathe out for more than that.
Would you want to just give us an example?
Yes,
of course.
So it is nice unless you're driving,
of course,
to close your eyes and sit quietly and have the intention.
Intention is incredibly important in all this work that you're going to just allow your body to settle and you breathe in,

(08:20):
say for the count of four.
So you breathe in through your nose for four.
So you breathe in one,
23 and four,
hold for two and then breathe out for 51 2345 and then gently start to breathe in the game for four.

(08:41):
And you keep doing a cycle of those and be aware.
Awareness is,
is so key as well of your body relaxing and releasing.
So you can feel the weight of your body in the chair and your feet on the floor.
It's been grounded and all of this work is about being in partnership with the earth.
We live from the earth,

(09:02):
the earth serves us and we have served her badly and it's about respect and love for the earth.
And so getting connected to her once again is is really very important.
OK.
So where does that come in with the breathing?
And thank you for that breathing.
I was gonna say just keep,
just keep doing that.
So I will do get you to do it a longer time next time because this is not the only time you're going to be visiting us.

(09:27):
So I'm just going to tell our listeners,
I will also put in a link to a free meditation app.
You can,
you can pay to upgrade.
But I really like insight timer.
It's one of my favorite free meditation apps.
And so Sandra also has a premeditation recording that we'll put a link to in the show notes.

(09:50):
Wonderful.
So I was just wondering about clarifying.
So we're doing the deep breathing or in and then to uh hold and then five out uh where does connecting with the earth come in when you put your feet on the floor,
you are feeling your body in contact with the earth.
And it's about recognizing the fact that we are all attached to the earth and we rely on her and we all come from the earth and we all go back to the earth eventually.

(10:20):
And it's about feeling a connection that we usually ignore.
Most of the time we have rubber soled shoes on and we walk on carpets or artificial floors.
And we don't feel that connection.
Some people,
many people advocate walking barefoot.
Um but getting out in nature and feeling the connection that so often we don't have because we're stuck indoors.

(10:43):
We're on technology all the time.
We don't look around.
I,
I talk to trees.
A lot of people do now.
I,
I think it's an incredibly important thing to do to connect with the trees in a visceral way and they have a,
a massive communication system that most of us again are unaware of,
uh,
that we need to.

(11:04):
If the next time you don't show up,
we'll know that you've been carried off.
I've been daddy.
So absolutely.
Feel,
feel free to talk to uh trees and uh connect with them.
You might want to let your family know you what you're doing.
Yes.
So they don't.
Um Absolutely that for you.

(11:25):
OK.
So that's,
that's lovely.
And also a shout out to everybody in my part of the world in Canada where it might not be possible even yet in April to walk outside barefoot.
But you can visualize that you're doing it if you can't actually do it.
And of course,
beautiful Canadian summer is coming up.
So that will offer an opportunity for us to kick our boots off and spread our toes on,

(11:52):
on Mother Earth.
Uh Wonderful.
OK.
So we've got eft tapping,
we've got deep breathing and meditation kind of combined,
connecting with the earth intentionally.
Um Is that enough for today or do you want something else before we do a tapping session together?
Well,

(12:12):
I also am very aware of all of the effects of both other people,
um electrical energy around us and um techno technological energy around us,
which I don't think is very helpful,
but also the moon,
the the phases of the moon I think are very powerful.
And I also take note of some of the planetary movements as well because we know how much of water we are,

(12:40):
we know how the moon affects the tides.
And I do feel the differences in the moon phases and I like to use them to my advantage.
I like to feel what's going on,
feel the ebb and flow and ride a wave effectively.
If there's a wave to ride,
I'll ride it.
And if there's one to avoid,
I'll stay down if you know what?

(13:02):
So the moon last week was full.
We're recording this on April 13th.
Uh I think it's a week since the,
the moon was full.
And so is there something that you want to touch on about the phases?
Um We've had a really powerful benevolent week this week,

(13:24):
Tuesday happened to be a day,
which is called the luckiest day of the year.
But I think that's a bit that's by popular astrology.
Why is that?
Well,
it's because Jupiter and the sun got together and Jupiter is known as the most benevolent and powerful of the planets in that respect and coming into the sun,
the sun just magnifies all of the energy However,

(13:46):
if you think this is the luckiest day of the year and it doesn't turn out that way.
It's a lot of pressure and can make you feel quite disappointed.
So it,
it wasn't a good thing,
but the most important thing,
it was a chance to sow seeds of benevolence consciously in your life.
And this is how I use it is,
you see what's happening,
you see the,
the waves coming towards you of possibility and then you use it for your benefit.

(14:10):
You use it to have a look around and see what you would like to plant is as seeds for your future,
for the future of our planet.
What would be good rather than looking for luck that day.
Um So it's not a,
a kind of popular astrology.
I use planetary energies for my,
I I just look out for them and see what's in the skies.
Next Thursday will be the second new moon in airy.

(14:33):
Now,
air is all about that will be the,
that will be the 20th,
the 20th.
Yes.
And it is a chance to use the,
the really strong energy of,
of Aries,
which can bring up anger,
but also can convert into courage.

(14:54):
It's this sort of combination of,
of anything that's kind of bursting forth that can make you feel frustrated.
You,
you,
you convert it to courage and do something with it,
which is really important.
So at every new moon,
we take a breather and we see what's ready to burst forth.
We,
we use that energy full moons.

(15:14):
We let it go.
Ok.
So then this on the 20th of April and this is 2023.
Is it advised that people just kind of observe what's going on with them and any anger that comes up kind of go?
Oh,
I wonder what that's about.
I mean,
this is a good idea any time otherwise.
But,
uh and,

(15:35):
and drill down a little bit and then go oh,
is there a way,
is this an opportunity to take that energy again?
We're,
we're talking energy of anger,
which is a way of kind of being alerted.
I think of it as a body kind of energy.
It's,
that's where I feel my anger and I think most of us do is so it's a message about what something that isn't right.

(16:01):
That's right.
It's an opportunity to change and it's our decision about where we take that change to.
We always have a choice,
right?
So sometimes we feel like a victim but we always have a choice.
Ok.
So then observe,
see if there's an opportunity to switch that energy to courage instead because it is a powerful energy,

(16:24):
anger and maybe some tapping in there to kind of shift it from,
from anger,
which underneath anger is always hurt,
right?
And,
and so if you rather than keeping it stuck in your body,
use whatever technique,
whether it's going for a walk,
sitting and meditating or doing some tapping to release it and then see maybe what this uh new Moon energy,

(16:50):
what exploring courage versus anger opportunities there are.
So should we do some tapping on?
Maybe anger we can do.
Yes,
if you want to.
Um I I think if people have that,
I'm sure that it,
it can sometimes open a can of worms anger because you can be angry about so many things that we actually bury it.

(17:15):
And a lot of people say that depression is anger that's been suppressed.
So we have to be a little bit careful about how angry people are and what they're angry about and whether they can face it or not,
it might,
it might be more appropriate on,
on a 1 to 1 basis rather than just a general one.
But,
but certainly we can give an idea of tapping on that.

(17:37):
Um Something about something rather light and fluffy.
So we won't if people want to join in with us and if you join in,
you're always taking responsibility for your own well-being.
That's understood.
And let's invite people not to maybe uh put a 30 year resentment uh with the family member on the table,

(18:01):
but maybe think about the last week or two.
Was there a time where you got perhaps unnecessarily or,
or whatever,
not even unnecessary,
whether you got annoyed somebody cut you off in traffic,
you know,
uh you just,
I'm trying to think of a minor annoyance,

(18:22):
annoyances your partner,
your life partner maybe did something that was not quite what you,
uh,
you,
you didn't appreciate it.
And so there was like,
again,
not 30 years of resentment but just like,
I really wish that person hadn't done that.
So,
that kind of thing or being technology,
not behaving something like that.

(18:44):
And,
and I know about this because this is the second time we recorded this.
Absolutely.
Maybe we can tap on that.
Although I feel like I've moved through that.
Luckily I was a little bit annoying,
but here we are.
So people can tap a,
I'm,
I'm comfortable inviting people to tap along if they want.

(19:07):
And if they realize they're taking responsibility for their own well-being and they're going to pick something like on a scale of 1 to 10,
that 10 being the most intense,
they're not gonna pick something that's a 10 out of 10 or even like a seven out of 10,
but like a five out of 10 or lower.
So I'm,
I'm trying to think,
uh,
do you have something that you?

(19:29):
Well,
I,
I'm going to go with the difficulty I had in getting on to Facebook because my ipad wasn't working and it's very frustrating and it's still rankling so I can work on that later.
All I will say is if you've got your own subjects,
I will work on the ipad thing that just insert mute me and insert your own words in,

(19:51):
in that,
in that slot in that slot.
Yes.
I mean,
you can insert your own words in,
in any of it if you just tap along on the points that we're going to use.
But it is kind of helpful sometimes to have somebody who's an experienced tapper lead one through it.
And so,
and the idea with tapping is you are just,

(20:13):
you're acknowledging what's there.
It's not like kind of positive affirmations.
Like I'm happy,
I'm joyful.
No,
you actually have to recognize the emotion that's there before you can move it.
Yes,
absolutely.
So,
it sounds very nice and complaining and that's exactly what we want.
And it's very honest as well.
And when you,

(20:33):
this is why doing general ones is OK.
But uh you really need to put your own words in and it,
it's much better to tap on a 1 to 1 basis.
But,
but I'm very happy to do one today.
OK?
And if people want to do one on one tapping with you or me,
we'll,
we'll put some links in how they can contact us.
I will say Sandra and I met in 2017 in Boston um at a five day tapping workshop.

(21:00):
So it was,
wasn't it?
Yes,
it was indeed.
So,
yes,
tapping is uh something that we know and know well,
and we do it together.
Uh Pretty often we do.
We do indeed.
So anyway,
I'll,
I'll get started.
And so if you take a deep breath and just get that number in your mind about how angry you feel or how frustrated or irritated you feel about a particular subject.

(21:26):
And remember that because with many people that I've tapped with,
they go,
no,
I didn't feel like that at all,
but I wrote the number down that you forget it.
So because it does go.
So we're tapping on the side of the hand point first and and just say repeat after me,
even though I feel sorry you're going to do that way.

(21:47):
Yes.
So even though I feel really angry about for me,
the ipad technology technology frustration,
I completely accept how I feel.
So even though it took a lot of my time and made me feel really cross and I got very tense in my body,

(22:20):
I fully accept my feelings about this the third time.
Even though even though oh I should be repeating,
sorry.
Well,
it doesn't matter.
Even though I,
I felt so angry inside,
I feel so angry inside and it's brought up some other things as well and it's brought up some other things as well.

(22:43):
I completely accept all my feelings.
I completely accept all of my feelings.
So we go around the points,
all this anger,
all this anger side of the eye,
all this frustration,
all this frustration under the eye,
all this irritation,
all this irritation in my body under the nose.

(23:07):
Throughout my body,
throughout my body on the chin.
For those people who aren't as watching this on uh youtube will have to tell them where we're tapping.
Yes.
OK.
On the call,
phone points,
all this anger and that's a soft spot right underneath your collarbones on both sides if you want.

(23:28):
Yeah.
Under the arms running through my body where your bra straps are for all the women out there guys,
you'll just have to imagine.
And it was so unnecessary.
Top of the head.
It was so unnecessary,
so unnecessary.

(23:48):
It was so minor,
really tip of the eyebrows above the nose,
so side of the eye,
so unnecessary,
so unnecessary to get so angry about under the eye,
the eye.
Yeah,
to get so angry about it.
But I did but I did changing again.

(24:11):
I got really frustrated on the chin,
really frustrated.
Oh,
this is interesting.
Hm.
And I'm still feeling it now on the collarbone points and I'm still feeling it now still in my body underneath the arms,
still in my body and my thoughts are still on it.

(24:35):
Top of the head.
My thoughts are still on it.
Why did it happen to me?
Eyebrow points?
Why did it happen to me?
Why does it always happen to me?
Why does it always happen to me side of the eye?
Oh.
Oh,
it's not fair.
It's not fair underneath the eyes.
It's not fair.

(24:55):
Every time I say a new phrase we're changing the points.
It made me so late underneath the nose,
it made me so late,
it made me,
it was inconvenient on the pin point,
it was inconvenient on the collarbone points and it affected my mood.
I was out of balance underneath the arms.

(25:19):
I was out of balance.
Not pleasant.
Top of the head wasn't pleasant.
Ok?
So take a breath and at this point what happens you go through,
see if anything pops into your mind about anything else that's coming up for you about how unfair it was or whatever or something you could have done and you tap around on that again.

(25:44):
If you're still feeling grumpy about it,
you go around again,
same sort of thing.
You insert your own words about how you were feeling and then we do something a little bit more positive.
So just go from the eyebrow point.
I recognize I was angry.
We're tapping on the eyebrow point.
I recognize I was angry side of the eye and I was angry and I was angry and annoyed underneath the eyes,

(26:12):
but I don't need it to run through me now,
but I don't need it to run through me now under the nose.
I'm letting it go.
I let it go under the mouth.
I can let that go.
Now I can let that go now and on the collarbone,
the truth of it is the truth of it is under the arms.

(26:35):
It makes me feel imbalanced.
It makes me feel imbalanced top of the head.
And I can't be my best self and I can't be my best self,
eyebrow points while I'm imbalanced,
while I'm unbalanced side of the eye.
So I'm willing to let it go now.

(26:55):
So I'm willing to let it go now under the eyes,
I'm willing to accept the situation.
I willing to accept the situation as something under the nose or something that just happened as something that just happened.
I'm still here under the mouth,
I'm still here.
I'm still here.
Collarbone point.
I'm still OK.

(27:16):
I'm still OK.
And under the arms,
I can put it into context,
I can put it into context top of the head in five years time,
it won't matter in five years time in one day time,
it won't matter.
So eyebrow point,
I'm letting it go.
Now,
I'm letting it go now side of the eye releasing all that anger now releasing all that anger now under the eyes,

(27:42):
taking a deep breath,
taking a deep breath,
all that anger go,
letting all that anger go under the mouth because it doesn't do me any good because it doesn't do me any good collarbone.
I did what I could did what I could under the arms,
but I will have more clarity if I release that anger,

(28:04):
but I'll have more clarity if I release that a on top of the head and all is well now and all is.
Well,
now,
ok,
so take another deep breath,
check it out and again,
if anything else comes up,
keep on tapping,
but that should have reduced the number.
Now,
I can't actually remember why I was crossed.
So,

(28:25):
um,
it just seems as if it's in the past somewhere and,
uh,
that's all it does and it didn't take very long and it should have shifted from whatever number it was down as long as it's gone down.
If it goes up,
it's nothing to worry about.
It just means you really do need to tap on it and the words weren't right because the specific specificity of it has to be right to,

(28:46):
to actually knock away the,
the roots of the general,
you know,
house cleaning,
um,
emotional house cleaning.
But the more specific,
uh,
the better.
Yes.
Absolutely.
All right.
Well,
that's awesome.
Thank you so much,
Sandra is going to be back in a couple of podcasts to talk again about kind of the movements of the planets.

(29:10):
Maybe.
Then we'll have you pull a card.
We pulled a card on the first podcast that we,
uh,
recorded and didn't do a tapping session.
I didn't do a tapping session.
You want to pull a card?
Now,
do you have time or not?
I do,
I have a deck already and I just wanted to think about the energy that people could bring.

(29:31):
Um,
if they want to even start making the difference as I said earlier,
the intention is everything.
And,
um,
it,
it's having that thought just that belief that you might be able to make a difference somehow.
You don't know how yet.
But there is a possibility of selling the intention that you want to make a positive difference.
Yeah.

(29:51):
And that's really important that,
that lifts people's vibrations straight away to make that intention.
I've drawn this card which is called the Five of Air.
It's from Collette Baron Reid's Good tarot and it's a beautiful card.
Um And Collette always says read her descriptions.
It's not meant for me to decide that that's a ballerina in amongst some dubs in the air.

(30:15):
There's a lovely kind of light energy.
Yeah,
you get from that.
Yes,
it is.
But the energy that we need to look at as we're doing this work is tension and conflict.
Conflict is a good way to see my motives and intentions.
I can use this experience to grow into a more authentic version of myself.

(30:36):
It isn't important to win.
It's important to have integrity.
Other people have different ways of thinking may not always be in agreement with me,
but I'm open to this,
this opportunity to live and let live.
And I think that that's a really important thing because I certainly am advocating a different way of being to everyone else and you've insinuated,

(30:59):
I might end up in a,
in a home somewhere in a straitjacket for some of my beliefs but I know that.
Well,
I don't know,
but it's my belief that we're not quite doing enough yet.
And if all we need to do is look around and know that we're not,
we're not doing enough and that there is another way and,
but it is going to be on a slightly,

(31:21):
you know,
different path to what everyone else would accept and it doesn't mean that we change.
Yeah.
But the,
the,
the whole point of this card,
the conflict and the tension it brings to the surface a little bit,
like I was saying,
with the anger,
it brings out courage and a need to change our ways.
And I think it's a good call out to,

(31:42):
to say,
well,
you know,
perhaps it's time.
Well,
and I really appreciate Sandra coming on today and I think both of us want to hear from our listeners.
And in fact,
I think Sandra,
you've said that if,
when you come back next time,
if there's a specific person who's,
who's written in and if more than,

(32:04):
uh,
you know,
one of you right in,
we will pull a name out of a hat and you'll actually pull a card specifically uh for them,
maybe what they need to know for the highest.
Good.
So,
yes.
Yes.
Wonderful.
Thank you so much for visiting us from the UK.
This,
well,
I was gonna say this morning,
it's morning for me.
It's well into the late afternoon for you.

(32:26):
But uh and thank you to everybody who listened in,
we're really glad that they,
if they're hearing this means they stayed right to the end.
So,
uh for that,
I am truly grateful.
Thank you very much for having me.
It's been a pleasure.
