(00:00):
Cheyanne Lake is joining me again here on the podcast,
Cheyanne,
how are you discount?
Kitchen Direct?
That would lead me to believe that that's the place to go to get kitchen cabinets directly and maybe at a better price always every day,
30 to 50%.
(00:22):
Yeah,
that's huge.
So how does someone create a budget for this?
That's hard and then getting the budget out of them?
That's the harder part and I get it right?
Like you don't want to put all your cards out there,
right?
You don't,
you need to know though,
right?
You need to know as a supplier,
right?
Are we talking about 5000 or 25,000?
(00:42):
Because it makes a big difference on your side.
It sure does.
And you know,
there's different lines and,
and literally we have lines that will vary that much.
You know,
it could be a $30,000 cabinet line or it could be a 15,000.
And so I gotta at least know which line to design you in and build you in,
right?
So this is what I always say though,
(01:04):
your budget is what you have to spend or access to get to spend and what you wanna spend.
Now,
whether that lines up with what you,
you know what you want to put in your kitchen and the quality of the cabinet and the functionality of your cabinet.
That's where,
you know,
we,
we have sometimes a little bit of a disconnect,
(01:26):
but at the end of the day,
your budget's gotta be with what you have to work with.
So,
um and I try to let people know like look you,
you,
you and I show them pictures,
right?
I I say this even when what are they cost?
I show them pictures like this is a $10,000 kitchen cabinet business is that in your budget?
Because this is when I typically get their budget after I've given them the price,
(01:50):
they don't know what their budget is until you give them the price.
And then that's,
that's,
that's out of my budget,
right?
So you can confidently tell people what you're looking to spend or even in your total kitchen project.
Look Cheyenne,
I've got,
you know,
$40,000 which an average kitchen is gonna be somewhere,
(02:10):
you know,
10 to 50,000.
Obviously,
they can go way more than that.
Uh 10 is you're not doing much in your kitchen,
right?
But if you at least have a healthy project budget and knowing that an average is gonna be,
you know,
probably in that 25 to $30,000 range for a you know,
a decent size kitchen,
(02:31):
um that the cab,
you know,
the cabinets are the main piece other than the countertops.
So,
um so you,
you better plan to spend a good portion of that budget in your,
in your cabinetry.
So,
um I always say to when you're doing your project,
really spending that time up front is going to save you so much money because this is what I find.
(02:59):
I have people that have literally gone in and painted or they put their flooring in or they've done things out of order and then that ends up costing them,
right?
And so that's something that can impact the budget,
it can also impact the time of doing it.
So just knowing the proper order to do things is gonna really help keep you within budget clear communication,
(03:23):
knowing who's on the team that's gonna help you with your budget because you,
you know what everybody's doing to delays,
you know,
that can cost money,
um buying things twice,
maybe going with the lowest bid isn't always the best,
you know,
going for the best value.
(03:43):
And that doesn't always equate to the lowest price,
right?
And so I don't think people even really know how to really determine value.
Sometimes we're so focused on just looking at the cheapest price.
And so,
you know,
it's one of the things that we try to do when we're educating people is to really show them how to compare value and and what does constitute value?
(04:04):
And some of that is asking those questions with them,
what is important to you,
right?
So communicate,
I tell people communicate,
tell,
tell the people you're meeting with what's important.
Have them help you ask the right questions,
you know,
tell them you don't know all the questions they ask and then hopefully you get the,
(04:24):
you know,
the the right people that are helping you with the right questions to ask so that you can formulate that budget.
Speaking of value,
I tell people never buy on price alone.
Look at value.
And also one more quick thing before we go.
And this is just for me as a homeowner,
this is just a little tip.
This is what I would do.
I would spend good money on the cabinets and if I had to forego the high-end appliances,
(04:50):
I'll slip them in later.
So I would buy a $500 dishwasher,
even though I want the $1900 dishwasher one day.
It's the same opening,
right?
But once those cabinets are in,
you do not want to rip them out.
That's right.
That's,
that's actually excellent,
excellent advice.
Yeah,
it's almost like in phases.
There you go.
That's right.
(05:10):
I mean,
even if you had to leave a hole in the freaking count,
uh in,
in the cabinets and wash dishes by hand for now,
if you had a budgetary issue,
put the money in the cabinets and put them in the countertops too.
You don't want to take them out.
Those should be considered pretty darn permanent.
All right,
giant.
As always,
this has been great.
Thank you so much.
Thanks so much.
(05:30):
Always good to be here.
