(00:01):
Jim Klauck here!
Have you ever walked into a kitchen and said,
is this 1978?
Hm.
Now,
sometimes that stuff comes back.
Um The retro look,
we're talking trends here with Cheyanne Lake.
Hey Cheyanne,
how are you?
It's always so good to be here with you.
(00:22):
It's great to see you Cheyanne and you are a cabinet,
expert,
kitchens and bathrooms and so trends,
things are trendy from clothing to colors of cars to of course the interiors of our homes and we've seen it all over the years and a lot of people say uh like granite for a countertop is out,
(00:43):
but that was so big.
Is it out?
Is concrete?
Still good?
I don't know,
you know,
all these different surfaces and cabinets.
I mean,
for me,
I'll tell you cabinets for me if I could have an old cabinet,
let's say I bought a house and the cabinets are original and they're solid wood and the house is 100 years old.
I'm probably gonna work with those because I kind of like that old stuff,
(01:04):
but some people would tear them out and put something modern in.
So tell me what's going on with trends.
Yeah,
that's a great question.
So,
and that is a,
you know,
that's one of the top questions that we get,
you know,
what's Shane,
what's everybody putting in their kitchen?
People want to be trendy.
Um,
and they don't,
you know,
uh,
and people are always,
always,
even if they know they're gonna live there for the next 20 years,
(01:26):
they still are always thinking of resale.
Right?
And I think that that makes sense.
Um you know,
to consider,
but at the end of the day,
I'm like this is your kitchen,
this is where you spend a good part of your life.
So put in it what you want,
right?
Like I do,
I am a firm believer put in the things that you want.
(01:46):
Now,
are there some things that you can do uh to still what I call be relevant?
But timeless,
those are the two words that I use relevance and timelessness because relevant can mean I can have an element and aspect.
Like right now it's still,
you know,
white shaker.
(02:07):
I mean,
it's still 95% of what people pick when they come in through the doors is a white shaker.
Sometimes I get a,
you know,
a double step,
you know,
shaker.
Um Let me show you this is what I wish was not the trend right now.
Do you see this beautiful piece of wood?
(02:28):
Everybody sends me these Pinterest pictures Cheyenne.
I want this,
I want this in my island.
I want this in my bathroom,
Cheyenne.
I want this,
I'm like,
really?
Do you want a $25,000 island?
Because you just ate up your whole kitchen budget.
And I'm not joking.
This is floating all over Pinterest right now.
(02:48):
It is.
The trend.
Is this gorgeous,
what we call sero wood.
It's,
it's oak.
It's got this,
it's got this painted thing over it and it's everywhere.
And honestly,
it's the bane of my existence for this trend because it's very,
very expensive.
So,
since COVID,
(03:09):
um and this was really fun,
we went to the Kbis.
Uh you know,
it's the big design kitchen,
a show that's in Vegas every year.
And it,
that is like,
you know,
an adult kitchen designers,
you know,
candy store is to go and see what all the upcoming trends and what the,
what's going on right now.
What are people putting in their homes?
This is something that I think is really cool.
(03:31):
So post COVID because everybody was working at home,
people are still working at home is that they are being so intentional about how their spaces feel.
Uh they've gone really into spa environments.
So things that have um you know,
(03:51):
kind of that soothing aspect to them,
but they also the other big trend right now is multipurpose,
right?
So we need our kitchen to be that,
that gathering place where we eat and that we have a great conversation,
but it also needs to be,
you know,
that functioning place where,
you know,
they're gonna be sitting there maybe on their laptops and doing some school work.
(04:15):
Or we might have mom and dad,
there's only one spot for an office,
but everybody's still working at home.
And so that's the other trend that really has come in since COVID is having those spaces,
uh,
accomplished multiple purposes.
But,
you know,
as far as looks other than the seru,
that's the big one.
(04:36):
Um,
uh,
um,
ship lap,
thank goodness,
is on its way out.
I'm glad because everything got ship lapped,
at least in my part of the world.
And,
um,
and so we're still seeing if you want to,
um,
again,
remain relevant,
but timeless,
you know,
using a,
um,
kind of a traditional or a let's just call it neutral cabinet color.
(05:00):
So staying within your grays,
um,
into your whites.
But then if you want to do,
you know,
something fun that really is you like,
I just had this client do an awesome backsplash that frankly 99% of people would not love,
but she loved it and it was a small space and so it didn't cost her a lot of money.
(05:22):
Um,
but she still got that very custom and unique look and when somebody moves in,
if case she decides to sell the house,
instead of tearing out cabinets and countertops and all of those things,
they're just taking a backsplash out which is pretty easy to replace.
So,
you know,
trends are multi function um uh the seru and uh still,
(05:47):
you know,
we're still in our timeless uh shakers,
you know,
our light colors are neutral colors and um in very spa like relaxing environments,
Cheyenne is so important that when people are considering getting a kitchen or bathroom model that they understand the trends.
And I'm glad that you are able to consult with the homeowner on these trends because a lot of people will come to you and say we need to get our kitchen remodeled,
(06:15):
what new cabinets,
but we really don't know what we should have because people really tend not to want to put in things that are odd,
meaning not normal for today,
the trendy thing and they do put trendy things in.
But I will tell you this,
everybody and this is great for Cheyanne in 10 years.
You're gonna be going back saying Cheyanne,
what's the new trend?
(06:35):
Which is fine,
keep Cheyanne busy.
But it's true.
Right.
Right.
That's right.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Ok.
As always Cheyanne,
thank you so much for joining me.
I appreciate it.
Always.
Good to see you.
