Archery Elk: Locating Non-Vocal Elk & Tag Strategy 2025

Ever hear the old saying “You can’t kill elk if you can’t find elk?”  After 7 days in Colorado hunting public land last year, it resonates with me on a different level. Archery elk hunting takes a different combination of skills and knowledge vs. chasing whitetail.  You have to get up close and personal from the ground to be able to harvest that bull you dream of all spring and summer.

Cody and I took a deep dive on many of the specific scenarios we face when trying to locate elk. Knowing how to work in & around clear cuts, burns, creek bottoms, drainages, and timber are the keys to figuring out where the elk are when they do not respond to vocalization.  Each terrain feature has its’ own unique strategy and Cody knows how to navigate them all.
