In this interview recorded November of 2022 Drumming News Network host Paul “The Rög” Rogne talks with Mike Mangini and co-author Shawn Crowder about Mike’s third installment, "The Ultimate Stickings", from his world-renown drumming book series, “Rhythm Knowledge”.
Mike Mangini currently plays for the Grammy award winning band Dream Theater. Mike is best know for performing with Annihilator, Extreme, James LaBrie, and Steve Vai as well as being featured on the Discovery Channel show Time Warp, displaying his drum skills for high-speed cameras. Between 2002 and 2005, he set five World's Fastest Drummer records and before joining Dream Theater, Mangini was a faculty member at Berklee College of Music.
Mike is a consummate teacher offering many ways to learn online or directly from him. When able he holds online Zoom group classes, 1-on-1 drum lessons, and Vimeo series of lessons. All information is available at www.MikeMangini.com .
Shawn Crowder is a drummer and one half of the electronic-jazz duo, Sungazer (with bassist Adam Neely). Shawn is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, in Boston, MA, where he studied with world-renowned drummer Mike Mangini (Dream Theater, Steve Vai, Extreme), among others. Shawn held a guest faculty teaching position at the Berklee Percussion Festival in Boston from 2010-2014, and has given private lessons and masterclasses around the world. Since 2019, he has garnered a sizable online following through his YouTube channel, where he shares educational videos and his experiences as a professional musician.
