A longtime lover of rom-com movies, Erika delves into K-dramas and other shows and movies from around the world. The podcast will be spoilery!
If you need a recap of Squid Game (오징어 게임) season 1, this episode is for you. Erika reflects on how she perceived the show differently each time she watched it, and how the show reflects the scary state of the world.
Erika takes a look at a few titles starring Gong Yoo: K-drama The Trunk (트렁크), co-starring Seo Hyun-jin, melodrama A Man and a Woman (남과 여), co-starring Jeon Do-yeon, and romantic comedy Finding Mr. Destiny (김종욱 찾기), co-starring Im Soo-jung.
Well, life always throws wrenches at us, so this wrap-up episode went a bit awry. There are missing notes, tears, all kinds of stuff. Here are some of my final (?) thoughts on this beautiful K-drama.
We find out what happens with Ji-na and Kang-chil and their families. Erika tries to stay on topic, but continually realizes she just doesn't know... anything. Also, for the last time, Kang-chil's son's name is Im Jung. For crying out loud!
Ji-Na's father explodes in violent rage. Kang-Chil is in the hospital. There's hotteok and trot songs and Guk-Su does a lot of ambiguous but probably good things.
Kang-Chil and Ji-Na hit some rough patches and troublemakers keep popping up everywhere.
The romance between Kang Chil and Jina continues to develop. Erika's understanding of Korean barely improves, but it sure makes for fun (mis)interpretations!
Time for an experiment! Erika is rewatching Padam Padam (빠담 빠담... 그와 그녀의 심장박동소리), a K-drama which aired from late 2011 to early 2012. Rewatching without subtitles! It's a mess. Come and listen!
For April Fools' Day, Erika analyzes her fourth all-time favorite Prince song, "Horny Toad," and then reviews the 2012 South Korean movie Whatcha Wearin'? (나의 P.S. 파트너).
Erika quickly summarizes the 43 (!) K-dramas she is currently watching. Will she ever finish them, or will the number keep growing? It's anyone's guess!
Sorry about the static; I'm trying to figure out the cause of the issue.
Today Erika talks about two wedding-themed movies, Monsoon Wedding and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, and her all-time favorite K-drama, Reply 1994 (응답하라 1994). Get ready for lots of weddings and lots of romance!
I talk about an Italian comedy and three documentaries, and then a Chinese martial arts thriller called Reign of Assassins and an HK martial arts thriller Five Deadly Venoms.
In this episode, Erika reviews two Korean movies and one K-drama, all of which have a sort of gangster with a heart of gold theme (and also lots of organ trafficking). Check out Man in Love (남자가 사랑할 때) and Deliver Us From Evil (다만 악에서 구하소서), both starring Hwang Jung-min, and the revenge-themed K-drama Kill It (킬잇) starring Nana and Jang Ki-yong, and then listen to the episode!
Erika takes a trip to the Toronto International Film Festival and talks about two new Korean movies, A Man of Reason and Hunt.
Erika reviews the 2003 K-drama Summer Scent along with a couple Korean movies: A Moment to Remember from 2004 and We Are Brothers from 2014. I apologize for the sound issues!
