Vor 20 Jahren wagte sich Hollywood nach zahlreichen Filmflops wieder aufs Wasser - und das gleich doppelt. Erst hisste "Fluch der Karibik" mit Johnny Depp die Piratenflagge, dann lichtete auch noch Russell Crowe den Anker und wurde zum "Master and Commander". Die Voraussetzungen der beiden Filme hätten nicht unterschiedlicher sein können: der eine basiert auf einer Themenpark-Attraktion, der andere auf Patrick O'Brians renommierten und gefeierten Historien-Romanen. Dennoch gibt es neben dem Erscheinungsjahr und der Tatsache, dass sowohl Michael als auch Rüdiger beide Filme lieben, noch viele weitere Gemeinsamkeiten - angefangen beim Wettstreit um Ankerplätze im Studio über das Nicht-Casting von Heath Ledger bis hin zum den Filmpreisverleihungen, bei denen beide gegeneinander antraten und am Ende nur das Heck von "Herr der Ringe: Die Rückkehr des Königs" sahen.
