In the third episode of our Women in Architecture series, Katerina is joined by Meg Coffee, a California-based landscape architect with over 20 years of experience and an instructor at UCLA Extension. Meg’s journey as a landscape architect is an inspiring tale of career pivots, perseverance, and leadership.
Meg shares how her early passion for architecture evolved after she discovered the world of landscape architecture, this discovery led her to pursue a master's degree and become a licensed landscape architect. She reflects on how the licensure exams have changed since she first took them and offers insight into her unique work experiences, how she secured her first job out of grad school, and the early days of her teaching career.
In 2013, following a challenging period during the recession, Meg made the bold move to start her own landscape architecture firm. She shares the valuable lessons gained from that time, her experience working across different facets of the profession, and how these experiences have influenced her holistic design approach.
Meg shares her involvement with the Association for Women in Architecture + Design (AWA+D), where she has served twice as president. She talks about the leadership skills she gained through this role, the importance of delegation, and how the organization has helped her build professional connections and expand her career.
Tune in to hear Meg’s inspiring story of resilience, her path to leadership, and the value of networking and community in the field of landscape architecture.
