Another mistake that some people do is that they often get really excited about
elevating their outfits and they go way out of their comfort zone.
And I think personally, a good outfit is not good unless you feel comfortable and confident in it.
Music.

(00:20):
Hello, Grown Girl Gang. Welcome back to the Girl With Girl Now podcast.
I am your host, Victoria, and I'm so grateful that you are here and tuning in again this week.
If you are looking for tips, advice, and or inspiration, then you are in the right place.
This podcast was created to help you navigate life and live your most fulfilled and authentic life.

(00:44):
Today's episode is going to be super fun. This episode is the last episode in
the series of glowing up your physical appearance.
I'm so excited. It is a personal style episode. So I know earlier in the month
we talked about color analysis, but this episode is different.
So in today's episode, I had the pleasure of having Marie Erickson join me.

(01:06):
She lives in Germany with her fiance.
So I know, I think it's so cool that we were able to connect considering that
we are in different time zones, like really different time zones.
But I think that obviously it's a beautiful thing of the internet.
So she lives in Germany with her fiance.
She's always loved fashion and creating content.
She started editing her own videos and designing outfits in her little notebook when she was little.

(01:28):
And now she's really been able to find the best of both worlds with creating
content about fashion and being able to help women feel confident in their clothing and their style.
She's been doing this for about two to three years now. And I found her on Instagram
and I'm so obsessed with her content and her tips and I'm so excited that she was able to come on.

(01:51):
Her content is all about simplifying fashion and breaking down style tips into
actionable steps that any woman can use if they are seeking to enhance their
wardrobe and they're just so practical and easy to follow. That's what I really love about her tips.
She recently became a digital stylist and and styles lookbooks for her clients.

(02:11):
So I'm excited for you guys to hear some of her tips and really get some great
tips so that you can elevate your style this year. So.
With that being said, let's get into the conversation with Marie.
Welcome, Marie. I'm so happy to have you. Thank you. Thanks for having me.
Of course. I can't wait to get into the conversation.
But before that, can you give us a little intro? Because I know I found you,

(02:34):
I think I saw you on Instagram and I love your content and I'm literally saving
them for like tips for my own wardrobe.
So I'm so excited that I got to get you on.
Thank you. Oh, that makes me me so happy to hear.
So my name is Marie. I'm 27 years old.
I now live in Germany, but I was born and raised in Sweden.
So if I pronounce some things wrong, I know that I've gotten comments about that before.

(02:57):
That is why I'm not natively speaking English.
So basically, I studied media communications, which is how I got into the social media world.
And I've always loved to create content ever since I was little,
whether that was through video, photography, or writing text.
And I've also always loved fashion. So now I've kind of found the best of both

(03:20):
worlds where I can create content and talk about fashion.
And I've been doing this now for about two to three years.
I would say two years consistently, I've been posting content.
And I started on TikTok and then migrated over to Instagram.
And then now I'm also on YouTube.
And yeah, I just love it. It's super fun fun to be able to help women to feel

(03:40):
comfortable and confident.
And if I just help one person, then I'm really happy.
Yes, I love that. I think that is so great. The thing that I love because I'm
into fashion, I love that you can just really tailor your fashion and like wear what you want.
And just as long as you are confident in it, I feel like you can rock it like
no matter what you decide to wear.
So I just I really love that aspect of it that it's just a really cool way to express yourself.

(04:03):
Yeah, absolutely. I totally agree. I always try to keep my tips very simple
and generic so that everyone can be able to follow them.
And that's always my goal that everybody, even if I give five tips,
maybe they can just take away one tip that will help them elevate their style.
Love it. Okay. So I have a little icebreaker that I love to ask every guy.
So what is your 2024 mantra or focus word that you are using to help you live

(04:27):
your most fulfilled life this year?
Yeah, it's actually a little bit cheesy and it's even cheesier because I have it on my laptop.
And I usually don't. Yeah, I usually don't live by a quote or word. But
this year I do and it is take the risk or lose the
chance oh I love that so much I
think that's really huge that's a great one yeah because I'm
just tired of like restricting myself or feeling

(04:50):
afraid of doing the things that I always wanted to do and this year I'm just
trusting my gut feeling and hoping that I'll find happiness that way and so
far so good I think that's really amazing and it's so funny I was having a conversation
with my friend last night and we were talking about out because basically I so I live in the U.S.
I'm in Florida and I want to move to Canada and I was telling her that someone

(05:11):
I know there was trying to talk me out of it and really projecting
their feelings they're like well I mean the weather this and that and I'm like
I mean I get your feelings are valid but at the same time like I'm not gonna
let that determine me because it's like you said if I don't ever take that chance
I'll never know and at the end of the day I can always come back you know yeah
for sure you might as well so I love that yeah I totally agree so let's get

(05:32):
into to the questions about fashion.
So what are some of the spring and summer trends in fashion that you find particularly
exciting or noteworthy this year?
Yeah, so now when I'm so into the fashion world, it's kind of hard to get me
excited about certain trends because there are just so many out there.
But I have picked three that or I have thought about three that I find exciting

(05:54):
and that are versatile enough for you to be able to tailor them to your personal style.
So the first one is the color burgundy or maroon, as some people would say.
I think that the color red has been so huge in the past months,
but also you can trust that it's a timeless color that will always come around
every winter or Christmas season.

(06:15):
So I think it's a really, you know, good staple color to have if you like red
and you can trust that it's timeless and the burgundy is more of a sophisticated version of that.
And we've seen it in, you know, both bags, shoes and other clothing pieces.
So So that's a big one that I want to try to incorporate more.
And then also metallics, I think it's a big one.

(06:37):
It's also one that we've seen a lot in shoes and bags and other clothing pieces like pants even.
But I personally don't think that I would wear a silver pants,
but maybe shoes and bags because I really love to match my accessories.
So I think that one is a really good one to incorporate if you love to dress a basics outfit.
Fit and then also sheer fabrics is a really big one among celebrities and the

(07:01):
red carpet i think it started like two years ago we started to see this naked
dress trend on the red carpet and even on the oscars many celebrities were wearing
this trend and i mean it's definitely more of a
personal taste thing but I find it really cool to
incorporate into like the summer for a vacation
vibe or resort vibe so yeah

(07:22):
those are the three ones that I would like to incorporate into my wardrobe this
season I love those and I'm happy you said them so a couple weeks ago I had
a woman on and we talked about color analysis and so I took an online quiz and
then also I was in Houston not too long ago and there's a family friend that
I know that does it and she did it for me while I was there.
And I'm a winter. So literally the first two ones are like perfect for me to

(07:44):
really thrive this year. So I'm very excited. That's perfect.
I know. I'm so excited. But then the sheer. So I love that you said that because
lately I've been looking for a sheer skirt because I did see someone else talking
about how sheer is going to be really in.
And I love the style that I saw. Like I saw long sheer skirts and kind of with
like casual shirts that are kind of long as well. And like blazer.

(08:05):
I don't know. It was just so cute.
And I just really was thinking, OK, this would would be really cute for spring so yeah
and especially now it's becoming more mainstream because I
think like before when it started to be an upcoming trend
it was more like celebrities that were wearing it and it wasn't really
you know suitable for everyday life but now
as it's becoming more mainstream you're seeing a lot more clothing
pieces including the sheer fabrics so now

(08:27):
I think we have a lot more options for everybody to choose between
and I think we'll be able to find something you know that suits
us I totally agree so just thinking
of those how can we incorporate these trends into our
current wardrobe to help elevate our style for something a
little different yes i think very low effort way
and to incorporate any trend is to start with it as

(08:47):
an accessory so this is really you know suitable for the burgundy and the metallics
because it's a color so you can really incorporate it into any way you want
that's why i like to highlight those trends more instead of highlighting the
trends that is just like one specific item that's probably going to go out of style pretty quickly.
This is more of a way that you can incorporate it to your closet in however you want.

(09:11):
And yeah, so I would start with incorporating the burgundy and the metallic
as an accessory just to try it out and see if you like it.
And then for the sheer fabrics, that will be more of a personal thing if you
are comfortable with that or not.
But I mean, dresses and skirts, especially the long hem ones are huge with the sheer fabrics.
But as with any trend, I would recommend to just go and try it on in store first

(09:34):
before you buy it or order it online just to see if you like it.
I think that's a great tip because for me personally, I'm an online shopper
through and through. Me too. Yeah, I find a lot of times, especially when you
order from certain places, you might have a short window for return.
So say you order it, it's not the vibe you thought it was going to be.

(09:54):
And then you kind of get stuck with it. And then you either just keep it in
your closet or you try to sell it on Poshmark or something.
So I like the tip of at least going into the store, try it on.
Maybe you don't want to buy that particular one. Maybe you want to buy the similar one you saw online.
But at least you kind of get the vibe of how you think you'll
look can feel and something similar so like that yeah yeah
for sure like I'm the same I will always order stuff online

(10:14):
but like there was one instance where
I really wanted to wear low first because I saw it
you know everywhere online and then I was like okay I'm gonna go into the store
and try them on and I just realized instantly that it was just not vibing with
my style and I was so happy that I didn't you know waste my money or time into
ordering that and then figuring out that later because I think often people also get lacy.

(10:38):
They order something and it doesn't fit quite right, but they're like, oh, it's okay.
And they don't return it. And then you just end up with a cluttered wardrobe
with a bunch of things that doesn't fit you like how you want them to.
So I'm trying to be more careful about the things that I purchase now.
Which I think is important. And literally that is the story of my life.
I'm just having a closet full of things and I have no idea how to style them,

(11:01):
which brings me to my next question.
So what should we do when we feel like we have a ton of clothes,
but we have nothing to wear. And I think it's because we just have so many random things.
So do you have any hacks that we can use to build?
Outfit out of our current wardrobe without buying all new items?
Because I feel like I do that. I buy new items and then I'm in the same cycle over and over.
Yeah. So the first thing that if you feel like you have a lot of clothes,

(11:24):
but you still have nothing to wear, the first thing that I always say is to
declutter your wardrobe because you do have good. Yeah.
I mean, I need to declutter my wardrobe more frequently, too.
But I feel like you do have good outfits in there.
You just don't have access to them. So the first thing that I would do is to
just get rid of anything that doesn't fit, anything that you haven't worn in

(11:46):
a long time and that you just don't like anymore.
And I'm the kind of person that I always make excuses to why I don't need to get rid of anything.
So I have started to do this test month or two where everything that's a maybe,
where I feel like maybe I want to keep this, I put it in a box somewhere in
my basement or something where I I don't have access to it.
And then I revisit it in a month or two and see if I missed any of those items.

(12:11):
And that's how I'll know if I should get rid of it or not.
So I really love that. Actually, it's really good. Yeah, because otherwise,
when you start to declutter, you always make excuses to something you're like,
Oh, maybe I will wear that.
Or maybe there's an occasion where I do need that. And then you just don't end
up getting rid of anything.
So I think that's a really good good way to test out if you are going to miss

(12:35):
that clothing item or not.
And most of the time you don't. And then you know that you do just have too
many clothes in your wardrobe.
I'm definitely a piece of advice because like I said, I really struggle with that.
And especially now I feel like I have a storage full of clothes because I'm
kind of a nomad. And then I have like a closet
full of clothes and I'm at my family's house, I'm just like,
okay, something has got to change.

(12:55):
Yeah, yeah. So that's a big one that I always say to do first.
And then I think once you have decluttered your wardrobe, you can start to create
a few different outfit uniforms for yourself that you know that you can always
rely on for whenever you don't know what to wear.
And this will take some initial planning and time from your side in the beginning.

(13:17):
But once you have picked out a few selection of clothing pieces that you really
like, and you know that you can always look good in, then you will save time
in the future and don't have to, you know, stress last minute about what you
have to wear. I think that's really huge.
So when it comes to making those uniforms, how did you start that process?
Like, did you kind of do like a mood board, get like visuals,

(13:38):
and then come to that consensus? Or like, how did you start?
I started with just picking out a few pieces from my wardrobe that I know that
I really love. So for example, I have a tube top that I always wear and I have
a blazer that I always wear.
And then I kind of just started building my outfit uniform based from that one item.
And then it's also good to think about like different occasions that you typically

(14:03):
find yourself in. So, okay, let's say you want a work outfit or you want a casual
outfit for chilling at home or like me, like I need an outfit for filming or something.
And then you kind of just try to create outfits for those occasions so that
whenever you're in a styling rut and don't know what to wear,
you can always rely on those pieces to look and feel your best.

(14:24):
I love that so basically like picking your favorite pieces and then creating
the outfit around those so you can have something to wear which I think is great
because I'm sure more people have been in this situation too but I hate when
I'm trying to go somewhere like I have an outfit in my head I know what I'm
gonna wear and then I put it on and I'm like oh okay.
This is not, it's not giving what I need it to give. And then pulling every

(14:45):
piece of clothing out of my closet, trying to figure it out.
And it just leaves me so frustrated.
And I'm like, oh, I'm going to be late. Like I can't figure out an outfit. Yeah. Yeah.
I for sure have been in those situations too. And then in the end,
I just end up wearing what I typically always wear.
So that's why it's so good to have a few different outfit uniforms that you
can like rotate between. queen. I love it.

(15:07):
So when it comes to elevating our outfits, are there some key elements that we should focus on?
Yes, I would say that the ones that you should focus on are balancing your outfit
and then adding accessories and also adding interest.
What do you mean by adding interest? Yes. So I think the best example that I
have is you've probably heard this reel where they say if your outfit is not

(15:30):
interesting through color, it has to be interesting through shape.
And if If it's not interesting through shape, it has to be interesting through
texture. And I think that is so true.
And it's also such easy guidelines for anyone to be able to follow.
And you can elevate your look immediately by just adding one of those few little tweaks to your outfit.
Ooh, so I have heard that real. And I think that's a really good point,

(15:52):
like just like, especially the texture one, because when I heard that,
I was like, huh, that's something I've never considered.
So I do like that. That's a really good tip. So can you share some tips on how
we can go about mixing and matching
the pieces that we have to create more versatile and stylish looks?
Yeah, so I think that the ones that I mentioned before are really good,
like balancing your proportions, balancing your colors, adding accessories,

(16:13):
and adding shape through or adding interest through shape, colors, and textures.
So something that I can add here is to make sure that you're also investing
in quality basics that you can re-wear with multiple different outfits.
And then you can also accessorize in ways to add Add different,
you know, variations to that outfit.
And you can also make sure that you're curating a color palette for your wardrobe

(16:36):
so that you can ensure that all of those clothing pieces go together.
But you don't have to, like, start from scratch here. You can create some mini
capsule wardrobes within your existing wardrobe.
And a capsule wardrobe is basically just a curated collection of clothes that
you know all go together and can be mixed and matched seamlessly.
So I personally like to create seasonal capsule wardrobes because I live in

(16:58):
a place with four different seasons.
Sense. But if you don't, you can also create color-coordinated capsule wardrobes.
So you hang the clothing pieces with the colors that match next to each other
so that you can just, you know, like easily grab and style versatile looks out
of those pieces that you've hung there. I really like the idea of seasonal ones.
I mean, I'm in Florida, but when I go to Canada, there's seasons.

(17:19):
I really like that idea, especially so like say winter is gone,
you can like pack away your winter stuff and it kind of helps with the deco.
We talked about, and then just have your spring seasonal things out and then go from there.
So I think that would be really helpful to even like kind of get more closet
space during the season so that you can see what you have.
Yeah, for sure. That helps me a ton because I have a lot of knits and hoodies

(17:40):
and stuff that I don't need at all for summer.
So for me to create seasonal wardrobes, especially when I live in an apartment
that is not that big, I don't have a lot of space, that, you know,
really helps a lot to be able to see the clothing items that I actually wear on a daily basis.
Yes, I love that. And I want to go back to, I think you said balancing your
body proportions. Do you have any tips on how we can go about that?

(18:03):
Yeah. So balancing your body proportions or your outfit is always going to depend
on what your goal and what your personal style is, because there is really no
right or wrong way to do this.
But generally, I would focus on balancing my proportions and my colors.
So with proportions, for example, I wouldn't wear wear an all tight look or
an all baggy look because it's just not going to give any shape or interest to your silhouette.

(18:26):
So instead, I would balance the outfit depending on your body shape.
So for example, if you have broader shoulders, then maybe you wear a tighter
top and flowy bottoms to balance out the like top heaviness.
Or if you have narrower shoulders, you can wear a more structured top and tighter bottoms.
So obviously, there's like more that that goes into it. But basically,

(18:47):
you can either conceal or highlight certain features of your body to make your
body shape look more proportionate.
And that's how basically you can balance your outfit with your proportions.
I think that makes a lot of sense. And I think I'm following.
So basically, say if you want to, so basically, if you're wearing something
tight on top, maybe wear something a little looser on the bottom,

(19:08):
if you want to kind of give that balance, or like you said, it depends on your
body type or vice versa. Yeah, exactly.
There's so many different ways to You can also like if you're very curvy and
you don't want that to be as noticeable, you can also wear something,
you know, more structured to tone that down a bit.
Or if you don't have a lot of curves, but you want to accentuate the curves
that you do have, or if you just want to add more curves to your body,

(19:31):
you can wear clothing items that are more curved, like with more curved lines,
more rounded to add a little bit more like volume in certain places of your
body that you want to highlight more.
That makes a lot of sense and it makes me want to play around with my wardrobe now.
So let's talk about accessories. I know we mentioned it briefly when we talked
about the burgundy and the metallics, but in your opinion, how important is

(19:54):
it to accessorize if you want to elevate your outfit?
And what are some go-to accessories that you recommend?
Yeah, so I think that adding accessories is super important for elevating your
outfit, especially for me because I wear pretty basic outfits.
Adding accessories is one of the easiest way for me to elevate my look.
And you can do that through adding some earrings, a necklace, necklace

(20:14):
rings maybe a statement watch or you can add
other statement pieces like a statement silhouette or
statement shoes or a statement bag and I think if
I would have to choose what my go to like
go to are I would say earrings a belt
which I think is pretty underrated I don't think many people think about that
adding a belt can do so much for an outfit and also bags and shoes I feel like

(20:38):
I listed all of them now but I really do love to play around with different
accessories accessories and just mix and match those things because I do like
to keep my outfit pretty minimal.
So that's like a really good way for you to elevate your outfit in a pretty easy way too.
Yeah, that makes sense. And I want to get your opinion on this.
So I've always wondered, so if you have on kind of a larger earrings,

(21:01):
what are your thoughts on like wearing a necklace or should you not?
What's your opinion on that? For me, I would say that just stick to one statement piece at a time.
And I wouldn't wear like two chunky things like next to each other.
So if you really do want to wear a necklace, I would wear something more minimal,
like more dainty, because I just think that it can look a little bit too cluttered.
And usually when I would incorporate a statement piece in an outfit,

(21:24):
that would be like the focal point of the outfit,
you know, so that it's not like too cluttered with many different things that
distracts you from the harmony of the outfit. Ooh, the harmony.
That makes a lot of sense.
So what role does layering play in creating an interesting and dynamic outfit,
especially during different seasons?
Yeah, so just like accessories, layering can also really help to elevate your outfit.

(21:48):
And it's also a great tool for transitional seasons because that's when weather
can be a bit unpredictable.
Unpredictable so you can use it to create more stylish
outfits but you can also use it to be basically ready
for anything so for example if you're too warm you can
remove a layer or if you're too cold you can throw something extra on
and I'm personally always cold so layering it is super essential for me but

(22:12):
it is also something that I use to incorporate different textures in my outfit
which I feel like really helps to create a stylish look especially when you're
all like like bundled up for fall and winter. I like that a lot. And I feel like.
I have seen some layering in spring and summer which I find
really interesting maybe it'll be like short sleeves like under a tank
top or like a knit and then something under it

(22:33):
but I also think that's really cool too and something I wouldn't have
thought to do yeah so something that I love to layer I
love to layer button-ups in summer because I think button-ups
there are so many different ones with different textures like you have cotton linen
and silk and silk button-ups can
really you know give you that luxurious feel when
you add it to a summer outfit and it

(22:54):
also protects you from the sun so it serves you know
two different things that is very
smart we all need that protection okay so what
are some of the common mistakes that people make when
they try to elevate their outfits and how can we avoid them i
think probably one of the biggest mistakes that people
do is thinking that following any trend or

(23:15):
mimic someone else will elevate their style because it's actually way better
to just develop your own personal style instead of following what what everyone
else is doing because otherwise you can develop a wardrobe that's just way too
cluttered with things that just don't go together or you can lose sight of the
things that you actually like.
Then I also think another mistake that some people do is

(23:36):
that they often get really excited about elevating their outfits and they go
like way out of their comfort zone and I think personally a good outfit is not
good unless you feel comfortable and confident in it so you don't really have
to go out of your comfort zone to create really like versatile and stylish.
So I think just trust in your basics. They should actually be like the foundation

(23:58):
of your wardrobe and your style.
So just make sure that you have reliable pieces that you can create versatile
looks with and that you then can easily elevate with some like little tweaks here and there.
I think that's a really important point to make, really both of those,
because I do love social media and I think it is really great.
But I think sometimes when you constantly see all these different trends,

(24:20):
it can be so enticing to want to try them all.
And then it's like you said, it's not going to be the same if you don't feel
comfortable, if you're going so far outside of your comfort zone.
So how can we, especially if we've kind of lost sight of what our unique style
is, like how can we add a personal touch to our outfits to make sure that they
stand out and reflect our unique style?

(24:40):
So I think I would say just don't be afraid to add or wear anything that you like.
Even if it's not considered in style or on trend at the moment,
because you're never going to be able to develop a personal style unless you dare to try things out.
And it doesn't even have to be super drastic unless, you know,
that's what you're going for.
But it could simply be adding a vibrant pop of color that you really like or

(25:05):
a statement accessory that holds a personal value to you.
So just adding those little things to your outfit that are just for you and
no one else, I think it's a really good way to add some uniqueness to your style and to your outfit.
It. I like that a lot, especially so I do love thrifting, even though I feel
like it has changed over the years, just because I think a lot more people do it.
That's a bit harder to find those unique finds.

(25:27):
But I think that's why I love thrifting, because when you find something unique
and like, even though you're just finding it for me personally,
like it can just kind of like grab you in a way that when you go into like a
store like Zara or Nordstrom that maybe you won't be grabbed by that item. So I do think that that
does add a unique touch that can be meaningful. So I like that. Yeah, for sure.
I totally agree. I also want to get into thrifting more, but I don't really

(25:49):
live in a place where you can thrift very good.
I don't even know if there's any thrift stores where I live.
So I always have to do it when I'm out on vacation or something.
But yeah, like that is a super good way to just be able to browse clothes that
aren't particularly on trend or something.
And just I think you also get to know your style better that way.

(26:10):
I agree. Especially depending on the thrift store, if you want to go for cheap,
you usually have to dig, dig, dig until you find that gem.
So I think you're right. You have to look at so many different things and search
for the one that grabs your attention.
So you do really get to know your style. I agree.
So I know you mentioned about investing in some basics.
So what are your recommendations on the staples that are timeless yet versatile

(26:33):
that we can invest and include in our wardrobe?
Yeah so basics is a huge thing for me because I think personally that you can
never go wrong with a well-fitted tank top, a t-shirt, jeans.
Office trousers, a good button-up or a blazer.
So I love to layer my button-ups like I said especially in summer so I would

(26:54):
really recommend something like that and then also for winter maybe a blazer is really good option.
I I also do really think that shoes can serve as a great staple piece in your
wardrobe because shoes can really make or break an outfit and they can just
really transform the whole vibe of your look.
If you're wearing sneakers or
if you're wearing boots or if you're wearing heels. So shoes is a big one.

(27:15):
I would say to make sure that you have a timeless crisp sneakers or a boot that
you can just switch out to give more of an elevated feel to your look.
Yes, I think. Well, I used to go a little crazy with the shoes,
but if you have not. Me too. too.
I'm just an over shopper recovering at this point.
I think that, like you said, having those key things is really important.

(27:38):
I know white sneakers is super, super in. I feel like it'll always be in.
My problem is they get so dirty.
Yeah. It's so hard to keep clean. And then part of me, because I have a favorite
pair that I'm just not ready to let go, but I'm like, I wish I would have bought two.
I don't know. So that's why I find another pair of white sneakers I love I'm
buying two because I just know eventually I'm gonna have to get rid of them

(28:01):
yeah I'm the same way and I also have a thing for I hate to buy like if I wear
something that I really like I hate to buy that you know thing again because I get like
really attached to the old things that I have. I'm like, I love these shoes
and like, I can't just get rid of them.
So I wear my shoes until they break, basically. The same, but I'm like,

(28:22):
gosh, it's so noticeable. I try so hard.
I'm like scrubbing them, but then they have like the little black scratches
that you can't get off. So. Yeah.
So I feel like I've noticed, especially in the last few years,
at least in my opinion, I feel like style has become more comfortable.
But how do you balance comfort and style when you are piecing together your
outfits? Yeah, so I personally don't wear uncomfortable outfits anymore.

(28:44):
And I think that once you have set that bar for yourself, you're always going
to look for that in clothing pieces whenever you shop.
And there are really cool and
stylish outfits out there that don't have to compromise style or comfort.
So I just think that you have to go out and find them and only buy clothes that fit you properly.
Or if they don't fit you properly, you can get them tailored.

(29:05):
So I think what it really comes down to is the fit.
So I'm always making sure, for example, that I can breathe and that I can eat in my jeans.
And then I always opt for more oversized or relaxed outfits because you can
always get them tailored afterwards.
And it's a little bit harder, you know, if you get something too small and try
to make it bigger. So I always try to keep that in mind when I shop that.

(29:28):
Can I sit in them? Can I breathe in them?
You know, can I move around? around? I think one that's really important and
I love that, but I do like the tip of even if you get something that maybe doesn't
fit the best, but it's a little too big,
how you can like really tailor that to your body versus if you get something
too small, because I'm not going to lie, I've been a person and I was like,
oh, well, I've been working out, so I'll fit into it eventually.

(29:49):
You know, and I think that is another item that usually sit or I mean,
maybe you do fit into it and you're like, oh, I don't like this as much as I
did when like how much I thought I would like it.
So I do think that is definitely a better way of doing it. Yeah.
And I think that's one thing that many people don't think about is that like
many of these clothes are mass produced so they're
not going to fit all body shapes they're not going to

(30:09):
fit you perfectly so I always keep that in mind
that when I try something on that I really love I'm like
I can't get this tailored here and I can tweak that
that here and then you're much more you
have a lot more options to be able to tailor an outfit
that just fits perfectly for you and I find that
those items are the ones that I love the most in

(30:30):
the end because I did get them perfectly tailored to
fit me exactly how I wanted them to yeah and just going back to the comment
you made on like how you set the standard of just not being willing to wear
clothes that aren't comfortable for you I also think it goes back to what we
talked about with the confidence when you are wearing something that fits you
you're not constantly pulling at it you're not like when you're constantly pulling at our clothes.

(30:52):
We tend to look more self-conscious whether we are or not.
So I think it's important that when you have something that fits,
you usually don't pull on it, you're not tugging on it. So it just also automatically
makes you look more confident in your outfit.
Yeah, for sure. Totally agree. So are there any particular color palettes or
combinations of colors that you find especially chic when it comes to elevating our outfits?

(31:13):
Yeah. So for me, I think that mixing and matching neutrals is always a safe option.
So like black, white, gray, beige, and brown.
And then I also think that navy and blue are versatile enough because blue jeans
can, you know, typically go with anything.
And I personally think that there's just something so crisp about a monochrome
look in any neutral color because it's timeless and most people will look amazing

(31:36):
in it once you find your neutrals that you like and suit you.
So basically any neutral color combination or Or really rich colors,
I think, can also look very elevated.
But other than that, I think it really comes down to personal preference.
But there are like three main ways that people can typically match colors together.
And one of them is matching a monochrome palette, which I mentioned earlier.

(31:59):
But you can also match complementary colors or analogous colors.
And all of these palettes can really create a beautiful and cohesive look.
So it's really just up to the person what they...
Prefer like what kind of color combination they prefer I think
those are three good options and I think that will go back
to helping you kind of figure out your uniform and

(32:21):
your capsule wardrobe but I will say I don't think
I'm the only one but I'm obsessed with the black and white combo that we've
been seeing for a while now I think it is like chef's kiss amazing I am always
searching for like a tank top or like a dress option because I think they just
look so good together I agree I think my favorite color combination at the moment
or has been for a while is black and white and beige. I really love that color combination.

(32:43):
I haven't added beige in there, but that sounds really cool.
It sounds like it'd be really awesome. I think this is a really important one.
So can you share some tips for transitioning outfits seamlessly from day to night?
So say we are, you know, wanting to go to happy hour after work,
like how can we like elevate that look for a night look?
Yeah. So I think when you're thinking about transitioning an outfit,
don't just think about transitioning the clothing pieces, but also focus on

(33:07):
like the overall all appearance of your look.
So sometimes all you really need to do is switch out your shoes and your accessories
and maybe do a different makeup look or a different hairstyle that's giving more night vibes.
And a statement accessory, for example, is also a really good way to elevate a day look to nighttime.
Switching out flats for heels is also a really easy solution.

(33:27):
Or switching out your layering pieces to something more elevated,
like a blazer, for example.
And And I think all of those little tweaks here and there can pull it all together.
And it's also pretty easy to do.
Yes, I totally agree with the makeup look. Like I know sometimes when I do that,
I'll just put on like red lipstick and like maybe like add some eye makeup.
And then it's like, dang, OK, like I look like a man for the first time.

(33:50):
Yeah, that's that's a super good tip, I think. So I know we talked about confidence
a little bit already, but I just wanted to get an advice from you.
But what we talked about the role that confidence plays. But do you have any
advice for boosting confidence through fashion?
Yes. So I think just like you said, that confidence plays a huge part in pulling
off any look, which is why I often try to highlight in my content and whenever

(34:15):
I give my styling tips that you don't have to dress super extravagantly.
Extra or go way out of your comfort zone to create really stylish looks.
So I would suggest to start with dressing within your comfort zone.
Dress in what you feel comfortable in because if you're
uncomfortable that's really going to show through and also
learn what clothing items you like and don't like on yourself to get a better

(34:37):
understanding of your style and also finally start to develop your own personal
style because there are actually studies about how dressing in a way that resonates
with you can enhance your mood and increase positive emotion.
And personal style also plays a big role in fostering positive body image.
So I think that can really improve your self-esteem and your body confidence.

(34:59):
I think that's really true. And I think the beautiful thing when you have a
closet full of clothes is like really trying on the clothes when you're at home,
like piecing things together and see what one feels most you,
but also what do you feel most confident in?
And then that can also help with our decluttering process of deciding what to
get rid rid of. So I think that's really huge.
So I know there is a ton of information.
So how can we stay updated on the latest fashion trends without feeling overwhelmed

(35:23):
by how much information and things that are out there?
Yeah, honestly, I feel overwhelmed too. There's so much trends and even micro trends out there.
And like when I even do my own research for videos that I create and what I
want to talk about, I'm like, what do I pick?
Because there's just so many out there. But I personally mostly talk about trends

(35:45):
that I see on the runway because I feel like those are the ones that are shaping
like the mainstream trends.
But for people who maybe don't work in fashion, I feel like there's an Instagram
account called or it's a fashion online magazine called Who What Wear.
And I think that they are really good at featuring wearable trends and they

(36:05):
also show inspiration on how to wear them.
So that's like a really good fashion outlet, I think, to follow.
Yes, I actually really love that page. I've been following it for years, I think. Yeah.
Just even seeing the evolution of the growth that they've had.
But yeah, you're right. They do really give you the ways to wear the trend and...
Don't seem so out of reach. Many of those other fashion outlets,

(36:26):
they're just talking about like the celebrity styles that sometimes isn't wearable
for like the average person.
And I think who, what, where are really good at, you know, balancing the two
of showing trends that you can actually fit into your everyday life.
And they have influencers that are, you know, wearing those trends so you can see different options.
Yes. So are there any underrated clothing items or styling techniques that you

(36:51):
believe can instantly elevate an outfit?
Yes. So as I touched briefly on before, I think belts are really underrated.
I also think shoes are pretty underrated. And also matching your accessories
is a really good way to elevate your outfit.
And also wearing one statement piece at a time because you don't really need
to do all the styling tips and tricks in one outfit.

(37:14):
So generally, I think it's just those small things that people I agree.
So I know you mentioned who, what, where, but are there any other brands or
pages or fashion influencers that you use to constantly stay inspired?
So I don't think I have a particular influencer or brand that I follow like
consistently, but I do love to look at celebrities.

(37:37):
And the ones that I love are Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kendall Jenner,
Sophia Richie, Elsa Hosk, Dakota Johnson, Kaya Gerber, and there's probably more.
But I'm really influenced and inspired by celebrity street style because I just
think their looks are so basic but yet elevated, which I think matches my style

(38:00):
that I'm trying to achieve as well.
Ooh, yes. I just know Sophia Richie was like all the rage when she started with
what is it called? Old money style clothes.
Yeah. The quiet luxury thing. Yeah.
Yeah. I was like, oh my gosh, I love this. But I totally love that.
I know one of my style icons is Rihanna and I love Tracy too, Tracy Ellis Ross.

(38:23):
But yeah, there's just so many and I agree with you. It's so great to see their
street style and get inspired by that.
What are some creative ways to repurpose or reinvent existing pieces in our
wardrobe to elevate and add versatility to our outfits?
Yeah. So I think just start experimenting with mixing and matching your pieces.
So start with experimenting with different layering variations that you maybe

(38:44):
haven't tried before or try different color combinations or different texture combinations.
And if you have an outfit uniform that you typically wear,
you can also just try switching out one of those pieces to something different
that you maybe haven't tried before and discover new outfit combinations that
you maybe haven't thought of. Yes, I think that That's really important.

(39:05):
And I know we talked a little bit about textures, but do you have any specific
tips on how we can use textures and fabric choices to add more depth and make
our outfits more interesting?
Yeah, so I think wearing different textures and fabrics can really alter your
whole look and even your body proportions.
So for example, if you wear a smooth clingy fabric, that might accentuate your curves more.

(39:27):
And if you wear a more structured or rough fabric, that might add volume and
create a more overall structured or oversized silhouette.
So that's one way how you can use textures. And then you can also elevate your
outfit by choosing fabrics that are more lightweight, like silk,
for example, or you can choose heavier textures, like heavyweight knits or leather.

(39:49):
Even combining the two can, I think, can create really cool contrast and depth
to your outfit and to your look.
So picking the right fabrics can really change the whole vibe of your outfit.
And I think if you're looking for a more elevated feel, I think lightweight
fabrics like cotton, linen, or silk are good options.
Or the heavyweight fabrics like knits and leather are going to give you more of that luxurious feel.

(40:13):
Ooh, I like that. So we can go for the quiet luxury look. Yeah, exactly.
Can you offer some advice for people who may be on a budget but still want to
go for that quiet luxury elevated style?
Yes, I think the best tip,
is it's probably going to sound really boring but
invest in your quality basics that you can re-wear
with all of your outfits and I think you

(40:36):
need to think about it as a cost per wear
situation so even if you could get a
really cheap t-shirt that's made out of polyester for example for five bucks
maybe it is worth it to invest in a $30 cotton t-shirt that you don't have to
replace every year because in the long run that is going to save you money because
they're going going to hold up better and they're just going to look better over time.

(41:00):
And then maybe also invest in versatile statement pieces and accessories that
you can also re-wear with multiple outfits. So shoes and bags.
So basically just think smarter about what you're investing in and make sure
that it is timeless pieces that you can re-wear for a long time.
I love that cost per wear. I feel like now when I'm shopping,

(41:20):
I'd be like, okay, is this giving me the cost per wear that I desire?
Because Because you're right. I think a lot of times we see certain fast fashion
brands are like, oh, this is really cheap. Let me just buy this.
I cannot count how many of those are the first brands that I get rid of when
I'm decluttering my closet.
And had I been a bit more intentional and thoughtful with my purchases and maybe

(41:40):
considered sustainability and cost per wear, I just think I probably in the
long run would have saved money.
So I think that's a really important point to make because a lot of those things,
either they don't last or I get one wear wear out of it.
And then I'm like, oh, that wasn't as great as I thought it was going to be.
Or maybe it didn't like feel that great moving in because it was like such cheap
material that like it just didn't feel good either on my skin.

(42:03):
So I think that's important.
Yeah, I totally agree. And budget is also so relative, right?
Like if you something can be really cheap, but if you only get one wear out
of it, then what was it really cheap, you know?
But if you wear something that's or buy something that's a little bit more expensive,
but you wear it for years, then then that's actually cheaper, you know?
So that's something that I always try to think about when I shop.

(42:26):
That's very true it's literally all about perception that's so true so
what one piece of personal style advice you would
give to people looking to elevate their wardrobe and feel more
confident in their appearance yeah so if i could only give one piece of advice
i think it would be to develop a personal style because it is probably the best
thing that you can do for your confidence because you're going to feel more

(42:48):
secure in your fashion choices and whatever you wear no matter or the noise around you.
That doesn't mean that you can't experiment with your style from time to time.
So for example, I personally like to go by the 80-20 rule where 80% of my wardrobe
are timeless basics that reflect my style and that I know I'm going to wear for a long time.

(43:08):
And then the other 20% are more experimental like personality pieces that sometimes
are influenced by trends.
So basically the majority of your closet should be timeless core pieces,
but then you also have have this small portion of your closet that you can update
from time to time to keep your outfits more fun and up to date.
I think that's a really great piece of advice.

(43:30):
I am totally going to try that. So thank you so much for coming on.
I've loved all these tips. And literally one of my goals this year is to elevate
my style because I feel like for the last few years with working remotely,
I've gotten so casual that I'm like, okay, if this is the year I'm going to
get back into my style, really own it, and then just be willing to dress up
even if I don't have anywhere where to go.

(43:51):
Yeah. Thanks for having me. It was so fun. Of course.
