Have you ever paid attention to a new building being constructed in your neighborhood? If you stood nearby and just watched for an hour or two you wouldn’t see much progress. Maybe you’d see a window or two installed. But mostly you’d walk away seeing the house in much the same state as when you arrived. But if you were to watch a time lapse of this building you’d see that big things happen because of many s...
In The Salvation Army, we don’t have funerals. We have a celebration of life. We celebrate the beautiful moments God gifted us with this person. We celebrate the lives they touched while they were here with us, and we celebrate the hope God has given us in eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ.

Have you ever tried out for something? A sports team? A play? A band? If so, what did you do in the weeks or months leading up to that tryout? If was for a football team- did you practice? Did you exercise? Eat well? Or did you only say a prayer about it- expecting God to make it happen without your own effort?

What was the last new device you purchased? A new phone, new computer, or a new security device? It can be so frustrating having limited knowledge of this new gadget. But after reading through the instructions and watching a few tutorials it’s like a whole new world opens up to us. It’s not that it didn’t exist before- we just didn’t know about it.

If you want to get a group of people talking, ask them to share about the worst job they’ve ever had. Everyone has a story about a boring job, a terrible boss, or rude coworker. A workplace is somewhere uniquely prone to conflict because you’re asking a group of people with very different personalities to work together to achieve a common goal.

In the Bible, when Peter asked Jesus how many times he needed to forgive someone, Jesus, beautifully replied, “Seventy times seven times”. In other words- we should forgive continuously.

In a society focused on out busy-ing each other, the act of taking a Sabbath appears to be a lost art. However, much like an active recovery day allows your body to recover, observing a Sabbath doesn’t mean you can’t be productive. When you give your mind a break from your demanding work life, you’re able to focus on your family, your home life and your prayer life.

What do you think is the most highlighted scripture in the Bible?
Well according to a recent study by Amazon, the most highlighted scripture is Philippians 4:6-7.
“Don’t be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Has compassion ever cost you something? Quite honestly, being the hands and feet of Jesus isn’t always neat and tidy. In fact, it may cost you more than you bargained for. But, Galatians chapter 6 encourages us to carry each other’s burdens for in this way we fulfill the law of Christ.

I think we can agree there are tons of distractions in our world today. Constant notifications on your phone, unread emails, Instagram reels sent by your spouse, the list goes on and on. It can be challenging to take a break from all the noise. Even when you do stop, then you get anxious worrying you’re going to miss something!

Who are you allowing yourself to hear from? Who are you allowing to influence your life?
God is our father, and He wants us to recognize His voice at all times. My sheep know my voice and a stranger’s voice they will not follow, He said. So, who are you listening to? And should you believe what they’re saying?

The stages of grief don’t happen in a box and the healing process takes time.
2nd Corinthians 1:3-4 says,
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

All of us, at some point, can find ourselves in a dark place. Whether it’s due to trouble in a relationship, work, school. Maybe we can’t even pinpoint the cause of this overwhelming sadness. In this state it may even seem impossible to hear the voice of God. But, no matter what- you matter to Him. He loves you beyond what we can ever understand.

The ability to bounce back after trauma is what psychologists call “post-traumatic growth.” This is a positive transformation that can occur when people go through serious stress, like as a chronic illness, injury, or disaster. Positive and transformational things can be gained from struggling through events like these. The worst thing that can happen to us can turn into something positive.

Today, students are turning in essays and taking credit for something they didn’t create. Now imagine as they continue onto college, and then the workforce, only to be found out that they never took the time to learn for themselves. It’s the newest form of plagiarism.
As children of God, we can behave similarly when we declare ourselves self-made, or we begin to celebrate our talents above the giver of them.
So, today, ...
People with fewer social ties had significantly higher risks of dying from heart disease and cancer. Dr. Claire Young contends that social isolation is a source of chronic stress that puts us at risk.

Sometimes we just want to be left alone! But- If we shut ourselves off from the world, we can’t be much of a light to people in desperate need of hope. So, of course, these notions are incompatible with words of Jesus found in Matthew chapter 22 when one of the Pharisees asked Jesus which is the greatest commandment in the Law?
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and ...
