The plague of Athens was a mysterious illness that ravaged the city-state of Athens in 430BC. The illness delivered a devastating blow to Athens and severely hampered its chances of winning the Peloponnesian War. The ever reliable Thucydides caught the disease and meticulously recorded the details for us. Here is the story.
