Op 9 maart 1803 werd op de Grote Markt in Schiedam Jillis Bruggeman ter dood gebracht. Zijn misdaad? Hij viel op mannen. Dit was de laatste keer dat in Nederland iemand om deze reden de doodstraf kreeg. Precies 217 jaar later bedankte de gemeente Schiedam samen met de Jillis Bruggeman Stichting Claudia de Breij voor haar bijdrage in de strijd tegen discriminatie en vervolging op basis van seksuele identiteit.
