and it's episode number two.
(01:50):
All right, guys.
This is a great, great show.
And I think you guys are going to
find a lot of value in this show

All right.
So again, welcome to everyone here.
Welcome to another empowering episode of Inspirations for
Your Life, the podcast that goes deeper than
hustle, culture, and speaks directly to the heart
(02:12):
of your potential.
I am your host, John C.
Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
podcast host, and podcast coach.
My life's mission to inspire and elevate others
by unlocking practical, powerful strategies that fuse mindset,
(02:34):
technology, wellness, and leadership.
In tonight's episode, I'm diving deep into something
really cool because we're doing something different.
We're slowing down to reflect on a truth
too many people, too many high performers, I
should say, ignore.
(02:54):
You're human, guys.
You're not hardware.
You're not a robot, okay?
And that's a good thing, right?
Let's unpack all this together.
The real success principles that will not only
boost your productivity but protect your soul because
success without sustainability is failure in disguise.
(03:16):
Number one, are you ready?
Number one, you are not a robot.
You are not hardware.
You're not software.
You're a human being.
And you weren't designed to run 24-7.
You're not a machine, as I said.
You're a masterpiece.
With emotions, energy cycles, and real human limits.
(03:39):
In a world obsessed with optimization, it is
easy to forget that being tired, overwhelmed, or
burned out doesn't make you broken.
It makes you alive.
The goal isn't to push past every limit.
It's to live within your design and still
thrive.
Remember, I talked about living where you can
(03:59):
basically survive.
Nobody wants to survive.
We want to thrive in life.
Reconnecting with your humanity is the first step
toward authentic success.
Number two, guys, reset.
It isn't lazy to do this.
It is fuel.
Rest isn't what you do after the work
(04:22):
is done, right?
But you should be doing it.
It's what makes the work possible.
After the work is done, do rest and
feel free to rest in between.
Rest is that refuel.
The software update, the battery recharge, sleep, silence,
and stillness aren't indulgences.
They are power moves.
(04:44):
If you want to be sharp, creative, and
strategic, rest needs to be non-negotiable and
part of your daily plans.
The best ideas, guys, don't come when you're
grinding.
They come when you pause.
Let me say that again.
The best ideas don't come when you're grinding.
(05:05):
They come when you pause.
That might be something for a lot of
people to have a hard time swallowing, but
it's the truth, guys.
I know that it's hard sometimes to understand
these things, but trust me, it really does
work.
(05:25):
I want you to know that you can't
just do something out of the blue.
You have to realize that rest is part
of it.
Number three, guys, burnout does not equal a
badge of honor.
Burnout is not a flex.
It's a warning light.
(05:47):
Hustle culture made it fashionable to wear exhaustion
like an achievement, but let's be honest and
clear.
Pushing yourself to the point of breakdown, it's
exhausting.
It isn't noble.
It's neglecting your body.
You can't lead, build, or create from a
(06:07):
place of depletion.
You can't.
You cannot live a great life.
You can't help other people.
If your cup is empty, you can't live
well.
You can't help other people to live well.
Burnout, guys, steals your brilliance.
Recognize it, respect it, and replace it with
sustainable success habits.
(06:27):
That's the key, guys.
Replace it with sustainable success habits.
Number four, guys, limits.
Yes, limits protect your life, not restrict.
I know a lot of people would disagree
with that, but it's there for a reason.
Limits aren't walls.
They're actually guardrails.
(06:47):
They don't restrict your potential.
They protect your energy.
Saying no isn't weak.
It's wise.
Defining your limits is how you stay aligned
with your goals without burning out.
If you don't choose your limits, burnout will
choose them for you, yeah, on its own.
And the terms you may not like, they'll
(07:08):
be pretty brutal, and you're going to come
to a halt.
If you were in a fast-moving car
and you suddenly jam on the brakes, that
wouldn't be too pleasant.
But if you gradually slow down, well, that
would be much more tolerable, and everyone could
probably handle that, and there would be less
likely a chance for any kind of disaster.
(07:30):
Number five, guys, boundaries build freedom.
It sounds ironic, but it is completely true.
Boundaries are the blueprint of freedom.
When you're constantly available to everyone else's needs,
your own dreams get drownded out.
Boundaries protect your time, your energy, and your
(07:53):
mission.
They give you space to think, create, and
be.
Want more freedom?
Start saying no more often.
I know you're going to feel bad by
saying that, but the truth of the matter
is you shouldn't feel bad.
Number six, guys, energy is currency.
Spend it smartly.
(08:14):
You only get so much energy in a
day.
It's your most valuable resource, yet most people
spend it on frivolous things or distractions, drama,
or trying to please others.
I know you want to please others, and
that's a noble thing.
Don't get me wrong.
You shouldn't try to please others at the
(08:36):
sacrifice of hurting yourself or emptying your own
cup.
Track your energy.
Like your finances.
Ask yourself daily, did I invest in what
matters, or did I just spend it all
reacting?
Where your energy goes, your life flows.
We've mentioned this before, but I think if
(08:58):
you take a conscious effort to actually think
about it, you're like, wait a minute, what
am I doing?
It's like I'm just throwing this out, and
I'm taking the little bit that I need
for myself to recharge, and now that's gone.
If a battery goes down to zero, it
has a harder time trying to step up,
(09:19):
and if you keep doing that, eventually that
battery, well, it won't be able to regain
full charge, and pretty soon that battery won't
even be able to get any bit of
a charge.
Same thing can happen to you if you
go into burnout mode, because your body can't
work in burnout mode.
Number seven, perfection is a prison.
(09:42):
Perfection is something we understand.
A lot of people like it, but perfectionism
keeps you stuck.
It's a fear of being judged in disguise.
You don't need to get it perfect, guys.
You need to get it going.
The pursuit of perfection delays progress.
It drains creativity and distorts reality.
(10:04):
Embrace progress over perfection every day.
Done is better than perfect.
I've said that before.
Every time, done is better than perfect.
You can always go back and retool, refix,
right?
You can always do that.
Number eight, enough is powerful.
There's nothing more revolutionary than saying, I am
(10:28):
enough.
This is enough right now.
Our culture profits off of your insecurity, always
telling you that you need to be doing
more, achieving more, but enough is where people
and their lives, well, they suffer.
And real power is born, not given, okay?
(10:54):
I think a lot of people go off
track because they think that they're going to
get it later.
But if you don't understand that power is
born, it's not given, right?
Right.
Power is born, but it's how we choose
(11:16):
to use that power to make a difference
in our lives and others.
Number nine, health hustle.
Guys, you can't outwork poor health.
Your body is an obstacle to productivity and
positivity.
It's the engine of everything.
Sleep, hydration, movement, and nutrition aren't optional.
(11:39):
They're non-negotiable.
If you lose your health, chasing your goals,
you're going to lose both.
Choose wellness now or be forced to choose
illness later.
I don't like to say that, but I
like to let you know that you've got
to listen to your body's signals.
If your body says, hey, I need a
little more rest, put your head back on
(12:01):
the pillow, take a little bit more rest.
Maybe you can't rest today, but make sure
you catch up that rest as soon as
you can.
Maybe it's in the afternoon at night.
Maybe it's that weekend, but make sure you
catch up on that rest as soon as
you can or your body is going to
take it out on you.
And the repayment, let's just say it's not
going to be pretty and it's going to
cost you something with your body's health.
(12:23):
Number 10, guys, sleep is a success strategy.
Sleep is not a weakness.
It's a weapon in disguise.
When you prioritize sleep, you sharpen memory, creativity,
mood, and performance.
The world's top performers don't sleep less.
(12:44):
They sleep smarter.
Pulling all nighters won't make you a legend.
They'll make you a liability.
Protect your sleep at all costs.
Like your business depends on it because it
does.
Sleep is a very, very big resource.
And if we throw it out and we
(13:05):
don't give it regard, like a currency, sleep
is like currency.
We only get so much of it in
a day.
And if we don't cash in on it,
there's only so much time we get until
it comes back for a very demanding payout,
which come after our energy and our health.
And we don't want that.
Number 11, balance beats burnout.
(13:28):
It does.
Whether we're talking about relationship, whether we're talking
about businesses, whether we're talking about volunteering, balance
beats the burnout.
Being able to balance things, whether we're talking
about what you're eating, even too much exercise
can be too much, you're right.
So balance will always beat burnout.
(13:50):
It may not seem like it, but it
will.
You know, extreme effort without balance leads straight
to home exhaustion.
Balance doesn't mean doing less.
It means doing what matters most without sacrificing
your sanity.
So real winners understand this, okay?
(14:12):
And they master the art of rhythm.
Work, rest, reflect, repeat.
Chase balance, not burnout.
Too many people I know chase burnout because
they figure, well, that's where success lies.
If I keep running 24 hours a day,
I'm gonna beat my closest competitor.
(14:33):
No, you're not.
You might think you're gonna beat them on
the surface and you might beat them for
a short time, but you will quickly drop
faster than you rose because your burnout won't
be able to keep that up.
Number 12, guys, limits show priorities.
(14:56):
Where do you draw the line in your
life?
Well, this reveals what truly matters to you.
What's part of your core values?
You see, limits aren't about restriction, even though
we think about limits like that.
They're about the clarity.
Every no to a distraction is a yes
to your mission.
(15:18):
Wanna know someone's values?
Simple, look at what they refuse to spend
energy on.
That's pretty powerful.
When somebody refuses to spend any energy or
time on something, that means that's not important
to them.
And I think we've really gotta be discerning
(15:39):
on what we do and what we don't
do because when we just do things because
someone else is doing it, you know, like
the Joneses just jumping on board, we're gonna
find ourselves in the burnout category.
And the thing about burnout, I've been through
it before.
Many times I've studied for tests when I
was in grammar school and you got the
(16:02):
burnout syndrome.
Even in my undergrad life, what am I
doing different in college life and being an
A student is that I understand there's gotta
be a balance.
You've gotta study, you've gotta learn, you've gotta
play.
Same thing in business, guys.
You've gotta creatively play, make it fun and
(16:23):
then only spend time on things that are
reflective of your core values.
Too many people do things just because other
people say they're important.
Just because somebody else says something's important doesn't
mean it's really important.
You might think it's important but if you
don't know what their core values are, well,
(16:43):
that could just send you down a rabbit
hole.
And I have nowhere out.
Number 13, guys, busy is noise.
People say to me, oh, John, I'm busy.
Being busy does not mean you are successful.
Let me say that again.
Being busy does not mean you are successful.
I used to think this many years ago.
(17:04):
If I just say I'm busy, I'm successful.
No, busy just means you're busy, okay?
Busy is noise.
Focus is true power.
Focus is where the success comes from.
Being busy is not the same thing as
being productive but a lot of people are
taught early that they gotta stay busy like
(17:26):
a little busy bee.
That doesn't mean that you're gonna be working
smarter.
You're gonna be working harder and you're gonna
be very close if not hitting burnout very
often.
Noise can feel like momentum.
It can but it's empty.
Focus is where the real power lives.
(17:49):
It's not about doing more, folks.
It's about doing what moves the needle.
All right, John, now I'm really lost.
What do you mean by a needle?
Okay, so we think about the needle on,
let's say a meter, right?
So if it's, let's say the needle is
at zero.
You wanna do what's gonna make that needle
(18:11):
rise.
If you do things and that needle doesn't
rise or the needle rises and quickly drops,
well then that's like a false value.
So if you could have a meter attached
or you could see a meter of everything
you do, be like, wait a minute, did
that bring a value?
And you can have a needle.
(18:33):
A needle is what draws results.
So you see, John, well, what moves the
needle?
Maybe I should ask in another way like
focus on the things that bring about results,
silence the distractions and lock in on the
work that matters.
There were many times in college where I
(18:54):
was interrupted.
I stayed very focused, but I always kept
my head on the needle.
What did I do wrong in my undergrad
part of life?
I was focused on the needle, but I
never took my head off the needle.
Today I understand that you gotta take your
head off the needle.
You gotta do other things in life so
(19:14):
that you can enjoy life, so that you
can have that joyful feeling.
Dr. Duane Dyer, an amazing man who I
follow for many years, rest his soul.
He always said, you've gotta bring joy in
your life.
And people say, well, gee, there's no joy
in work.
Yes, there is joy in work.
(19:36):
If you do not love your work, get
out of your work, get out of your
field.
You're in the wrong field.
You're gonna burn out, okay?
Number 14, guys, stop when your body whispers
before it screams.
Your body talks, fatigue, stress, aches.
(19:58):
These are whispers.
Ignore them long enough and they'll start to
scream.
High performance doesn't mean ignoring your needs.
It means knowing them.
Tune in early, okay?
Respect the whispers when you hear them the
first time.
Doing so can not only protect your sanity,
but also keep you in great health.
(20:21):
Number 15, rest powers creativity.
You can't create magic if you're running on
fumes.
Some of your best ideas are hiding in
the quiet moments, the walk, the shower, the
nap.
Give your mind space to wander.
Inspiration isn't found in the hustle.
(20:42):
It's found in the stillness of life.
Like I said to you, if your cup
is empty, you can't help yourself and you
certainly can't help somebody else.
Comparison is theft.
Comparison kills confidence.
When you measure your journey against someone else's
highlights and they're real, you lose sight of
(21:02):
your own greatness.
The only person you should compete with is
the you from yesterday.
Stay in your lane, build your path, and
honor your pace.
How can I be a better version of
myself today?
Number 17, technology isn't your boss.
(21:24):
Sorry, just because your phone dings doesn't mean
you have to answer it.
You're not owned by your inbox.
I hope you guys know that.
Take control of your digital life.
Set boundaries with tech the same way you
do with people.
When I get on a show, guess what
(21:45):
I do?
My phone goes on vibrate.
Reclaim your attention, guys.
If you don't, your life is gonna be
utter chaos and you're gonna break down.
And of course, you're gonna experience some not
so great moments.
(22:05):
And this will happen because you don't have
balance in your life.
Number 18, downtime is data processing.
Your brain isn't idle when you rest.
It's sorting, it's solving and integrating.
Just like a computer needs time to render
you images or files.
(22:28):
So they can process them properly.
Don't call it doing nothing.
Call it mental optimization.
Hey, there's a word for you.
Call it mental optimization.
When you're not seeing the result.
I remember doing something a while back and
I couldn't think of somebody's name.
I'm like, I got on the tip of
my tongue.
So I just let it go for a
few minutes.
And then later on, oh, like it came
right back.
(22:48):
I always say the train left the station.
So just don't chastise yourself for that.
Just say, okay, it'll come back.
And it does.
Call it mental optimization.
You'll be so glad you actually did.
Number 19, say no to protect your yes.
Every yes has a cost.
When you say yes to everything, you end
(23:09):
up betraying your own priorities.
Say no isn't rude.
It's respectful to your time, to your mission,
to your values.
Say no like your future depends on it.
Because guess what guys, it really does.
Number 20, acceptance equals freedom.
(23:30):
Fighting reality is a losing battle.
Acceptance isn't giving up.
It's choosing peace over resistance.
When you accept where you are, you stop
wasting energy on denial and start building real
change immediately.
(23:51):
Acceptance clears the fog.
It sets you free.
And I think a lot of people don't
realize that they're so busy trying to dispute
things that they're getting knocked off the track.
So I like to tell somebody if they
don't agree with something, hey Mark, I like
(24:13):
to agree to disagree with you.
And looking like, huh, you heard me.
I just want to agree to disagree.
So in other words, I agree with what
you're saying, but I disagree with it.
I acknowledge basically what you're saying and I
disagree with it.
And that is perfectly your right.
Understanding that we are human.
We are not robots.
(24:34):
We are not machines.
We are people.
We have emotions.
We have feelings.
So we need to treat people like people,
not like machines.
You can run machines hours and hours and
hours.
If you run people hours and hours and
hours, you know what happens?
Well, they burn out and you also risk,
(24:55):
well, possibly breaking a bridge instead of building
a tunnel.
This happens because you've outworn your welcome.
You have indirectly abused your connection between yourself
(25:16):
and that other person.
Maybe you didn't mean to abuse this connection.
Maybe that wasn't your plan.
But hey, bullseye, you did.
So we have to be cognizant of these
things that we are saying, guys.
This is where it comes down to.
You know, if today's episode challenged your mindset
(25:36):
or maybe reminded you to slow down, to
rise stronger, I encourage you to share with
someone who's on the edge of burnout or
just needs to hear you're human.
And that's your superpower.
If we can acknowledge that we are human,
okay?
I think that puts us in an entirely
(25:58):
different class than technology.
We're smarter than technology.
Technology can do a lot of things simultaneously.
But technology doesn't have feelings.
Technology is not going to care about the
decision.
It just weighs things based on, well, some
(26:20):
data points.
But it doesn't really know why it's doing
that.
So I want to drive home this point
that yes, you are human.
Other people are human.
So that means if you're a boss, realize
people are human.
Don't treat them like slaves.
Don't overwork them.
(26:40):
I think that's one of the biggest reasons
people quit is they get overworked.
I know some big companies out there, I'm
not going to mention their names, but they
work people out of college to the bone.
They burn them out and then they're no
good to anyone.
And that's a selfish thing that these companies
(27:00):
are doing.
And a couple of them are publicly traded
companies.
And when I heard that, it just makes
me sick to our stomach.
We can work for many, many years if
we work in a way that doesn't burn
ourselves out.
Is that important?
You better believe it is.
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm John C.
Morley, serial entrepreneur.
(27:21):
You know, it's always such a privilege.
It's a pleasure and an honor to be
with you here on Inspirations for Your Life.
I invite you to please check out believemeachieved
.com right after the show and catch a
replay of this show, other shows, my tech
show, and other long form and short form
(27:41):
content.
Why?
Because I know you want to be a
better version of yourself.
And I aim to give you that knowledge
so you can have that great better life
that you've been waiting for.
Stop sitting on the bench and go get
the life that you've always wanted.
Have a great one, everyone.
