(00:10):
Hello and welcome to the introduction of the Just Buy My Vote podcast.
I am Joseph Simmons,
the host and also author of the new book Just Buy My Vote,
African American Voting Rights and the Chicago Condition.
As the study of American history,
particularly African American history has become an issue.
(00:30):
One of the challenges in the study of history includes sources.
So on the Just Buy My Vote podcast,
the main goal for the podcast is simple to provide information and sources on the where and how to get American history.
Beyond Just Google of course,
and also the relevancy of those sources.
(00:53):
At the same time,
I have come to believe that part of our contribution to history is if you have a story to tell you should tell it.
So the elevator pitch if you will for my book is,
it took me 20 years to write the book,
Just Buy My Vote and it covers many historical political subjects.
(01:13):
I believe it is a tale of two journeys and includes the relevant portions of a few centuries of American history.
My three priorities were number one,
I attempted to write a history book about the journey to attain voting rights for African Americans.
Two,
I also described the great migration of African Americans from the south to Chicago,
(01:35):
which became a black metropolis and had historical results politically.
And then three,
I explain including my own experiences how the history and political culture in Chicago produced many of the critical socioeconomic and financial conditions that exist in the city even until today.
(01:55):
Now,
the city of Chicago has new political leadership in the election of mayor Brandon Johnson,
the 57th mayor of the city of Chicago.
My reaction to that election is a big congratulations to Chicago Historic.
Of course.
Now the real work begins.
I look forward to more opportunities to talk about that on future podcasts,
(02:20):
new episodes will be released biweekly.
Each episode is an interview with various professionals and experts in their fields will cover subjects of historical politics in America and we'll talk a lot about voting and voting rights.
I promise a discussion about historical references that will give you even more reasons to vote.
(02:44):
Well,
