I Australien finner Arkham expeditionen mängder av urtida formade stenblock spridda i den stora öknen. Men trots assistansen av flygplan, hittar man inte mer än så. Någonting drar dock i Professor Peaslee och i kombination med sin sömnlöshet, börjar han ge sig ut på nattliga vandringar i ödemarken.
Under en av dessa finner han den största samling av block på en plats som de hittills funnit i ödemarken. Driven av en lurande instinkt välter Professorn undan stenarna och finner en gapande öppning, ned i underjorden. Klättrande och krypande med månljuset i ryggen, tar han sig ned i mörkret, i de urtida korridorerna, som blir mer och mer bekanta desto djupare han kommer…
