Happy Women's History Month!

This week is all about the ladies… I'm coming in with 3 small business, do-it-yourself PR gals I'd love for you to get to know.

Because this month is all about honoring women, I believe it's important we do the same in our own areas of influence.

I admire and respect the women featured on this week's episode.

Their businesses and offerings, similar to P&P, go much beyond traditional PR.

They each follow a multi-channel marketing strategy that reaches their ideal customer, and have unique skills and services, I’m excited for you to learn about directly.

+++ At P&P, we partner with companies and individuals who are making a positive, lasting difference in this world.

Whether you're a for-profit or non-profit, you'll find our integrated marketing and PR process breaks through the darkness of this loud world…

And, gets every purpose-driven thang we work with heard and seen, using our surround sound approach.

Our goal is to coach you, consult you and share our tips on the HOW.

+++

That's why we love these three women.

They're serving their unique customer by walking them through the process of working with the media, and not just doing it behind closed doors.

Just like P&P, these women will empower you to believe you can do your own PR as a small business. Because you can!

If you're curious about working with one of them, scroll down below and listen to this episode.

It’s time you tuned in!

It's the week of International Women's Day and I had so many ideas of what I

(02:57):
wanted to talk about for this episode and I struggled to come up with just one,
though obviously I eventually did.
I was very eager to talk about the role of women, highlighting the history and
positive impact of women over generations and generations and providing those examples,

(03:17):
but instead I ended it up in a totally different direction, simply based on listener interest.
Now that I have been running this podcast for six months, I have a good amount
of data on what you, the listener showing up here, is interested in and what

(03:37):
you want me to talk about.
And it's very clear that all you that are here listening, you want me to talk
about marketing, which makes absolutely absolutely so much sense since this
podcast is called Marketing Your Purpose.
Of course, you are also interested in understanding how your purpose-driven

(03:58):
thing can stand out against all the others,
but you're also curious how you can integrate your marketing and PR better and
more thoughtfully to break through the noise and to have a grasp on the tactics
and strategies you should focus on first.
I've also noticed that PR isn't understood well enough, but there's hunger to
have it in your arsenal of marketing tools as it should be.

(04:18):
And even as a PR and marketing professional who studied PR, I get why it's challenging
to understand because PR is so much broader now these days with the creation of the internet.
Way back when, it used to be the simple act of pitching a journalist and getting
a write-up in a national, local, or trade publication, or issuing a press release

(04:39):
that was seen by the media and used as a framework to write about your news
on behalf of your business.
But now, PR is so much more than media relations or a press release.
It crosses over with marketing, and it's often unclear whether social media
or content marketing should sit in PR. are.
And it makes sense because it's the messages that are written and designed for

(05:02):
these mediums and the connections, relationships that can be built on these platforms.
It's blurry. It's confusing which one it is.
So today I have three women I'd love for you to learn about today because yes,
their expertise may be in small business, do-it-yourself PR,
similar to my own, but they exhibit at least online a very holistic multi-channel

(05:30):
marketing approach that reaches their ideal customer and client.
It's clear their expertise goes much beyond PR and I'm excited for you to learn
about them and their unique skills and offerings so you can decide whether PR
is what you should be focusing on right now for your purpose-driven thing or
if you should be looking looking at other marketing strategies out there,

(05:51):
say paid advertising or email marketing instead.
Now, I know it may seem really odd that I'm talking about competitors here,
but we rise by lifting each other up.
And I couldn't believe that more.
I, in fact, would love to figure out how I could partner with these women,

(06:13):
work alongside these women, and figure out what what they do that's different than what I do.
And that to me is more important than not talking about each other and not lifting each other up.
So that is why I am doing this today, why I'm sharing this this week,
knowing that this month is really about empowering and enabling and standing alongside other women.

(06:39):
So here we go. Here are three women to watch in small business PR,
and I'll let you decide whether or not you should be investing in any of their offerings.
Okay, number one. Her name is Susie Moore, and she is much more than a woman in PR.
I'll say that. She is a life coach, author, advice columnist,

(07:03):
and the creator of 5 Minutes to Famous, an online course for you to get noticed,
skyrocket your reputation, and attract new clients by becoming your own publicist.
Even though she claims she is not a media professional, people come to her when
they want the fast track to get published.
Industry leaders like online experts Jeff Walker and Jasmine Starr have invited

(07:23):
her to teach how to leverage the media at their speaking events.
And it's a running joke among her friends she's not actually qualified for anything
she does. So interesting.
So if you've been telling yourself you need more education, qualifications,
or connections before you can score big PR wins, she says stop right now.
Now, she started with nothing, and in less than three years,

(07:46):
she was featured in 300 media publications, including Oprah.com,
Marie Claire, Business Insider, Forbes, Refinery 29, the list goes on.
She writes, when I say you've already got everything you need to get big press
for your business, no matter how small it is, as in just you,
even a part-time side hustling you, I'm totally, I'm personally totally aligned with this.

(08:11):
Although I've not taken her course, I sat in one of her workshops and was super
amazed by how much content and knowledge she dropped for free.
If you think you can't get yourself published, think again.
As a reminder, Susie's course is focused on getting you featured in the media, think editorial style.
So if this is what you're looking for, check her out.

(08:33):
I don't think she teaches much beyond that, but I really do recommend Susie Moore.
Now, number two is Gloria Chow.
I stumbled across Gloria's podcast, the Small Business PR podcast,
I don't know, months ago, and I love all the free content she gives away there.

(08:55):
Although it might be best suited for someone who isn't entirely new to PR,
it was super helpful to understand how she helps her entrepreneurial clients
go from unknown to seen and heard without ever paying for ads or agencies.
Agencies her mission is to make pr accessible
for early stage entrepreneurs without breaking the

(09:16):
bank what's unique and special about gloria services
and company is that she's built a community of
mostly bipoc founders a client base
made up of over 75 fierce women of color and helped elevate their stories super
inspirational she's helped hundreds of small but mighty business business owners
feel more confident in their mission and purpose and created a proven pitch

(09:39):
framework that's helped thousands of scrappy entrepreneurs get their message out to more people.
You can expect she helps with both features in the media and on podcasts.
So if that's an interest of yours, you should probably go check her out.
Okay, lastly is Lexi Smith of the PR Bar, the creator of the PR Bar.
PR Bar is an online coaching platform, resource hub, and PR agency built to

(10:02):
help motivated entrepreneurs, creators, startups, and PR pros enhance their
visibility and probability through relationship-driven marketing and PR.
Lexi and my business models, Plum and Parcel, are very similar in the fact that
we both offer agency support for larger brands and a coaching model for do-it-yourself business owners.

(10:23):
I came across her business when a female founder friend mentioned she worked
closely with her, and now I've randomly bumped into her through other speaking
engagements online over the last year.
I'm truly excited to get to know her more personally now that I'm aware she
is in Southern California as am I.
But to move along here, Lexi not only helps entrepreneurs, founders and creators

(10:47):
who are new to PR, but she also supports PR pros, freelancers and agency owners up their PR game.
Lexi also specializes in hospitality, hospitality, tech, CPG,
and lifestyle industries.
So if the PR bar sounds like a place you need to be, go check her services out.
Now, of course, I could add a number four and mention Plum and Parcel,

(11:11):
but that really feels a little weird.
But of course, we are here to up your PR game too, alongside all the other marketing
efforts you are implementing.
We see the value in a truly integrated, multi-channel approach,
